The Daily Buzz For Jan 29

Seattle Seahawks CB Richard Sherman & The Legion Of Boom Cover Sports Illustrated
We are days away from Super Bowl XLIX, airing February 1st at 6:30pm ET on NBC. And as the Seattle Seahawks (reigning Super Bowl champs) gear up to take the field against the New England Patriots, a major component of the Seahawks' team landed the newest cover of Sports Illustrated magazine.

Star cornerback Richard Sherman (whose popularity skyrocketed after his infamous "rant") posed it up with the “Legion of Boom”, a nickname given to the team’s dominant secondary (cornerbacks & safeties). It includes strong safety Kam Chancellor, cornerback Jeremy Lane, safety Earl Thomas III and cornerback Byron Maxell. Due to their physical play and “booming” hits on the gridiron, the defensive backs were given the nickname after dominating in many of the NFL defensive categories.

So how did they all end up on the cover? Initially, only Richard Sherman was approached to do the cover for Super Bowl week, but he kindly declined. He eventually said he would do it, BUT only if his teammates could grace the cover alongside him.  Now THAT'S team spirit.

"I only want to be on there if we can all be on there. The Legion of Boom," said Sherman.
How could SI not honor that wish? They are the top-ranked defense in the NFL. Well, his wish was granted. Sherman and the “Legion of Boom” graced the cover, while the rest of the defensive backfield were featured inside the magazine.

Oh...and they came with other demands as well. Sherman and his teammates decided they didn’t want grace the cover decked out in a Seahawks uniform, but rather, floss their own individual style. Nice.

Inside, Sherman writes,
"When you join a group of men and accomplish something so difficult and so rare, you no longer feel as though you have to prove things to people who haven’t proven anything to you. In most cases I have a better résumé than my detractors."

Let 'em know Richard!  Words of wisdom from the Stanford University graduate.

Mariah Carey SUED By Former Nanny, Claims Mimi Was Jealous And Overbearing
Mariah Carey has been hit with a lawsuit by her former nanny who accuses her of being jealous and consistently overworking her employees.  The shocking lawsuit was filed in Manhattan Federal Court today where Simonette Da Costa says Mimi forced her to work 100-hours a week (while denying her any overtime pay), then fired her “for expressing too much affection for their children.”

For a salary that ranged between $6,000-$7,200-a-month for taking care of fraternal twins Roc and Roe, Simonette's lawyer Eli Freedberg claims:

"She was on call 24 hours a day. She was always at their (Mariah and Nick's) beck and call. Plaintiff was on duty during all hours of each 24 hour day with no entitlement for breaks, for meals, and even for sleep. Indeed, Ms. Carey would often call plaintiff at hours in the middle of the night and demand to be taken to her children or to be updated on the status of her children.”

Eli added that Mariah was a petulant diva who demanded that her every need and whim be tended to. “Ms. Carey would not tolerate any delay when she called and plaintiff had to attend to her every demand, spontaneous or otherwise.”

In perhaps the most shocking charge, the nanny claims she was fired because Mariah was jealous over her closeness to 'Dem Babies.

"She was caring for the children too well. (Carey) was worried they were getting confused who the mommy was. My understanding is that Ms. Carey didn’t want the children developing any lasting relationship with the women,” Eli claimed.

This is the second lawsuit Mariah is facing from a former employee. Former staffer Yiser Oliver has accused the diva of skipping out on overtime pay for seven years!
But as she preps for her headlining extravaganza at Caesar's Palace, don't expect to hear a word from Mariah on these claims. A rep for the "Butterfly" singer told the Daily News, “We don’t comment on frivolous lawsuits.”

Hey Haters!!!! Mya Responds Back To her Haters!
This weekend, DMV native and beautiful songstress Mya took to the stage at a strip club and brought out a couple of sexy moves for the crowd, and while some fans were excited to see the “It’s All About Me” singer strut her stuff, others were a bit critical.
Reports Vlad: Critiques of the sexy singer’s performance varied from saying she moved awkwardly onstage to her being one of the few “real artists” left who shouldn’t resort to hitting the pole for publicity. Mya has responded to a few of the critiques in a very dignified matter, and even addressed a fan who said comedian Lil Duval wants to “save” her.
LOL!!! Now take that!

Designer Jean Touitou Names Collection ‘Last N*ggas In Paris’ + Kanye West Co Signs
Would you wear a collection called Last N*ggas In Paris?
A.P.C.’s Jean Touitou is stirring up quite a buzz over his presentation at Paris Fashion Week. Reportedly, the designer is known for typically holding up handwritten signs (during his presentation) to signify new portions of the presentation. During the show, the designer held up a sign that said, “Last Ni##@$ IN PARIS.” He then explained:

I call this one look Last N****s in Paris. Why? Because it’s the sweet spot when the hood—the ‘hood—meets Bertolucci’s movie Last Tango in Paris. So that’s ‘N****s in Paris’ and Last N****s in Paris. [Nervous laughter from audience.] Oh, I am glad some people laughed with me. me. Yes, I mean, it’s nice to play with the strong signifiers. The Timberland here is a very strong ghetto signifier. In the ghetto, it is all the Timberlands, all the big chain. Not at the same time—never; it’s bad taste. So we designed Timberlands with Timberland…
Contacted by Style.com after the show, Touitou clarified his position, that sign, and that speech by saying: “One hip-hop song is called ‘N***** in Paris.’ One movie is called ‘Last Tango in Paris.’

In an interview with Style.com about his ‘N*ggas in Paris’ reference, he explained:
I made looks which are a cross-over of those two references: the Timberland shoes and the sweat pants are iconic of hip-hop, and the camel hair color coat, worn with nothing under it, is iconic of that precise movie. I am friends with Kanye [West, who recorded “Ni**as in Paris” with Jay Z], and he and I presented a joint collection at the same place, one year ago, and that this thing is only a homage to our friendship. As a matter of fact, when I came up with this idea, I wrote to him, with the picture of the look and the name I was giving to it, and he wrote back immediately saying something like, ‘I love this vibe.’
Do you find the name of his collection offensive or just an exercise of creativity?

If you were planning to see Chris Brown and Trey Songz Tour...WELL NOT SO FAST!
Chris Brown announced via Instagram that the beginning of he and Trey Songz’s Between The Sheets Tour has been postponed.

“I would first like to apologize to all the fans and people who have been supporters of me and all the music over the years. The beginning of the BTS tour has been moved to later dates now,” he wrote.
“The judge would not sign off on my travel to do the tour until I finish these last 100 hours of community service. I promise that I am busting my ass doing it everyday until it’s complete. This is the most disappointing news I’ve gotten in a while. Everything happens for a reason so I wanted to personally inform my fans. The show must go on. Out of 1000 hours I only have 100 left. I will work my ass off to complete it and I will be on that stage. Once again I’m sorry for the delay. I love y’all!”

Earlier this month, a Los Angeles judge revoked Brown’s probation after the star failed to get permission from his probation officer to travel to San Jose for a show.

During the court hearing, the probation officer reportedly suggested that the singer has been more focused on his career than community service and rehab. Chris, who is still on probation from the 2009 assault of then girlfriend, Rihanna, was ordered to a new sentence of 1,000 hours of community service in August 2013.  Per the singer’s message to his fans, it looks like he is going to try and knock out his last 100 hours as quickly as possible.

Brown is due back in court in March and if he is found guilty of violating probation, he could serve jail time.
In response to the delayed tour, Trey simply tweeted: “Just a lil Intermission.”
Breezy and Trey announced their tour back in November during an intimate show at LA’s House of Blues. The tour was set to kick off in Hampton, Virginia on January 28th.

Benzino Arrested W/ Loaded Gun At Airport

Former “Love & Hip Hop” star Benzino reportedly found himself in handcuffs last night (January 27) after trying to get a loaded gun through an airport security check.

Reports Sohh: Details of the shocking bust landed online. Law enforcement sources tell TMZ, Benzino put his carry-on bag on the conveyor belt at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. A suspicious TSA employee dug inside and found a loaded 9 millimeter firearm with 7 rounds in the magazine.
Benzino didn’t make his flight to L.A., but he did get his very own escort to the local jail. He was released on $3K bail.

David Oyelowo defends Benedict Cumberbatch’s ‘colored actors’ comment
Here are some photos of David Oyelowo and his wife at the London premiere of Selma. I cannot even tell you how much I loved David in Selma. He was a revelation and it really is a star-making performance. It’s such a shame that he wasn’t recognized for any major awards nominations for it. But the struggle continues! David spoke to Radio 1’s Newsbeat on the red carpet and they asked him about Benedict Cumberbatch’s “colored actors” comment. David defended Benedict!

David Oyelowo has rallied to the aid of Benedict Cumberbatch, following a gaffe during an interview on US radio in which he referred to black actors using the outmoded term ‘coloured’. Oyelowo was collared while at the UK premiere ‘Selma’, the movie in which he plays civil rights activist Martin Luther King Jr.

“I think it’s ridiculous,” Oyelowo told Radio 1’s Newsbeat. “When you look at what he was actually saying it’s clear that he’s a huge supporter of black performers. To attack him for a term, as opposed to what he was actually saying, I think is very disingenuous and is indicative of the age we live in where people are looking for sound bites as opposed to substance.”

He added that he had contacted Cumberbatch to offer his support, after the actor made a public apology for using the term.

“I reached out to him in support and said I think it’s ridiculous,” he said.

Asked if he felt Hollywood has an issue with diversity, Oyelowo said ‘absolutely’.
“You can see that in the fact every time a film of this size and stature comes up,” he added. “We’re talking about diversity again and that’s because there isn’t enough of it. Excellence is the best weapon against prejudice. I intend to be part of the solution and not the problem. You’ve just got to keep on banging out good performances. [Cumberbatch is] a brilliant actor, he gives a brilliant performance in Imitation Game and, like I say, it’s just a diversion from what we should be talking about, which is that astounding performance.”

He added: “In America we use the term ‘people of colour’. Is that a million miles different than saying coloured? I know it’s an outdated term but… he was clearly doing something that I think was pretty beautiful.”
[From Yahoo]
Benedict’s saving grace was that he used the outdated term while discussing the need for more diversity in film. While I don’t think we should be like “Oh, David Oyelowo says it’s okay, everything’s fine,” I do think David’s words are welcome in the conversation. As he says, the conversation should be on the larger problems of diversity in film and television, perfectly illustrated by the whitest Oscars in more than a decade. Did Benedict deserve some backlash? Of course. Did Benedict need to give us a groveling apology? Well, it helped. It also helps that Benedict has friends like David Oyelowo in the industry.

The new, all-female ‘Ghostbusters’ cast: Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig & more
Rumors of a Ghostbusters III have persisted for a good five years. For real. This project has been the bane of Bill Murray’s existence forever. Dan Aykroyd kept accusing Murray of holding up the project, and Dan was correct. But Murray had a damn good reason. Did any of you watch Ghostbusters II? Forget about cats and dogs living together. The sequel had a walking Statue of Liberty. Atrocious.
The pressure fell off Murray when director Paul Feig took over the project. Feig annouced that the project wouldn’t be a sequel but a reboot. (Yes, another reboot.) The cast would be all female, and Murray threw out several suggestions. He loved the idea of Emma Stone and Jennifer Lawrence plus Kristen Wiig and Melissa McCarthy. He nailed it halfway. Here’s the official cast from Hollywood Reporter:
The all-new, all-female Ghostbusters are here.
Melissa McCarthy, who was already in talks for one of the leads, has signed on for the Paul Feig-directed reboot, and Sony is now negotiating with Kristen Wiig as well as Saturday Night Live players Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
Negotiations are ongoing, but the quartet are expected to sign on as the specter-seeking, poltergeist-punishing, phantom-phollowing foursome in the reboot, which is eyeing a summer shoot in New York.

McCarthy and Wiig have worked with Feig before, both breaking out in the director’s Bridesmaids. Jones, who is currently onscreen in Chris Rock’s Top Five, joined SNL early last year and this fall was promoted to feature player status. McKinnon has been on SNL since 2012 and last year was nominated for an Emmy for her work.

The film is set for release on July 22, 2016, Feig said on Twitter.
The Ghostbusters reboot has endured a long development process. Original director Ivan Reitman was on board to return, but while original castmembers Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson had agreed to reprise their characters, Bill Murray proved elusive. Reitman then bowed out of the project when Ramis passed away last year. Following Reitman’s departure, Feig was approached to direct and reconceived the project as a reboot starring an all-female cast.

[From Hollywood Reporter]
Not bad, right? Emma Stone was probably too busy to join the cast, and JLaw may not have been a serious contender. Wiig and McCarthy should easily fit the bill, sort of like Bridesmaids with unlicensed nuclear reactors. Leslie Jones is a treasure on SNL and was very funny in Top Five. I don’t know much about Kate McKinnon. Is she a good pick? Man, I bet Ernie Hudson is angry he hasn’t gotten a call yet. He’s going to be waiting for someone to cross the streams.

Porsha Williams Believes Claudia Jordan Is Obsessed With Her, Denies Rich African Boyfriend
According to the streets and a few unconfirmed rumors, Porsha Williams is a kept woman. On this season of Real Housewives of Atlanta, the newly single house wife is accused of having a filthy rich, African boyfriend. In an interview with Radar Online, Porsha says that these rumors, perpetuated by cast mate Claudia Jordan, are far from the truth.

I felt like she should have been ashamed of herself. Claudia and I have never discussed any boyfriend or anyone who I’ve been with. She does know who I’ve dated, never has. I felt like for her to sit there and tell a lie as if it was a fact, that was very wrong.

Porsha believes that Claudia has questionable motives:
She said she wanted to have a relationship with me, and ‘Let’s move forward,’ and get to know me outside of Kenya — then why are you attacking me in the same way?” Jordan asked. “So I was completely baffled when I saw that was what she was trying to do.
She adds:
She’s definitely trying to assassinate my character. I just don’t understand where the obsession comes from, at all.

Despite the rumors about her dating an African man (who also happens to be married), Porsha says she is a self-sufficient woman. There is no African dictator. No, I do not have an African prince. He’s nowhere to be found. If I had an African prince, trust me, I wouldn’t be waking up at 6:00 in the morning working hard as hell. An African man is a great man to have, but another woman’s husband is not. So I definitely don’t appreciate people trying to tear down my character like that.

Porsha does admit that she was recently hooked up by a close friend:
My girlfriend recently linked me with someone that I’m actually really excited about. It’s brand new. We just met, but he’s very successful and he’s single and I hope he’s ready to settle down one day because that is what I am looking for — it’s kind of a whirlwind romance right now!

She also has the ideal man in mind:
Number one, I’m looking for a man who is definitely God-fearing for sure. I do want him to have some level of success so that he won’t be intimidated by all the things that I’m doing. I want him to want to be a power couple. I want him to want to do things with me and try to be that example, the second go around for me. And I just want love.

WOMP! Ludacris Wins Primary Custody Of Baby Cai Bella
Rapper/Actor Ludacris has just been awarded primary physical custody of his and Tamika Fuller's baby Cai Bella (who is now over a year old), this according to Ludacris' rep.

Luda issued a statement moments ago via his rep saying:
“After review of all the evidence, the testimony of the witnesses, the report of the guardian ad litem, and the claims made throughout this entire case, I am gratified that the judge found me to be the most fit and proper parent to have primary physical custody of our beautiful daughter”.

News of Luda becoming a dad again shocked everyone when child support documents surfaced showing that he had a baby outside of his long-term relationship with then-girlfriend Eudoxie.  Ludacris previously said he and Tamika were old friends who caught up with each other while he and Eudoxie were on an alleged break, and the two had sexual relations.

Once Tamika filed for child support, Luda challenged the amount claiming he only made less than $2,000 a month and could not afford to pay the $15K a month Tamika asked for.  Interestingly, he then filed for full custody.  And soon after, the rapper got married to Eudoxie in a surprise ceremony (a surprise to both his bride and to the world) this past New Year's Eve.

Tamika Fuller has since remarked that the surprise wedding was a ploy for Ludacris to appear he has a "more stable" household than Tamika in order to get the judge to rule in his favor.
Well, after a recent hearing where Tamika dropped the bomb that Luda bribed her $10,000 and a house for her to have an abortion over a year ago, it seems the judge did rule in Luda's favor.

Luda's rep tells us that Mr. Bridges does not have sole custody.   Due to confidentiality, further details of the custody split are unable to be discussed.
Legally, primary physical custody usually means one parent has physical (not necessarily legal) custody more often than the another parent, but details of how much time the child spends with each parent is case by case.

Naomi Campbell Stuns At Jean Paul Gaultier Show!
Supermodel Naomi Campbell, 44, showed she still has what it takes to own a runway this week. All eyes were on the beauty as she strutted down the catwalk at the Jean Paul Gaultier Haute Couture fashion show in Paris.
Campbell will also open next month’s London Fashion Week with a huge fashion event, which she hopes will raise money to bring awareness to the Ebola epidemic in Africa. “I’m thrilled to return to London to open London Fashion Week for this very special cause close to my heart,” Naomi said in a press release.

Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Meet at Miami Heat’s Game
The anticipation for the Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao fight has been high since it was originally announced! Up until this point the two having only spoke over the phone, but that changed last night at a Miami Heat’s game.
Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao met face to face, but NOT in the ring! The two future Hall of Famers attended a Miami Heat’s game.
Mayweather sitting next to the Heat’s bench and Pacquiao was across from him. The audience was anxious to see what would happen between the two or if they would even talk? Eventually, the two Welterweight champs are seen exchanging words on the sidelines. No, there was no intense mess-talking, but instead a cordial handshake and Mayweather gave Pacquiao his number.
“He gave his number to me and said we will communicate with each other,” Pacquiao said. Michael Koncz, Pacquiao’s manager, told ESPN that the two had a “friendly discussion.”

It is hard for many to believe that these two have never met until last night. They have talked on the phone a few times, but that was it.

Check out the two:

Their fight is scheduled for May 2nd! Who do you think will win?

The Wire’s Gbenga Akinnagbe Hosts Boko Haram Victims Vigil [Photos]
Gbenga Akinnagbe is arguably the most polar opposite of his Wire character Chris Partlow than his former castmates.
Aside from the obviousness he’s no cold-blooded killer, he actually cares about his community, namely his Nigerian people. Yesterday, January 24, Akinnagbe hosted a vigil and awareness rally for all the victims of the recent terrorist attacks.
Via DNAinfo:
The Nigerian-American star who played Chris Partlow in the HBO series will host a Saturday vigil at Bed-Stuy’s Restoration Plaza to honor the lives lost overseas at the hands of the extremists’ recent attacks.
A Jan. 3 massacre in northeast Nigeria was deemed the “possibly deadliest” attack in Boko Haram history, according to Amnesty International. More than 3,000 structures were damaged or destroyed by fire and hundreds of civilians were killed, including small children and women, the agency said in a release.
In 2014, Boko Haram killed more than 4,000 civilians, according to Amnesty International. Akinnagbe seeks to bring these figures to light with Saturday’s memorial.
“These are human beings. If it was anywhere else, it would an international tragedy,” Akinnagbe told DNAinfo New York.
“We didn’t think we could leave it up to others to honor the dead and acknowledge these black lives.”
“It definitely permeates the Nigerian community here,” he said. “People are upset but unfortunately they’re not surprised. This isn’t the first massacre or tragedy, but we are asking accountability from our government and the Nigerian government.”
