49ers and Ravens -- and Harbaugh brothers -- to face off in Super Bowl XLVII
LADIES AND GENTLEMEN THE HARBAUGH BOWL!
One Harbaugh will win Super Bowl XLVII. Another will lose it.
That much is guaranteed after the San Francisco 49ers, coached by Jim Harbaugh, and the Baltimore Ravens, led by his brother John Harbaugh, beat their respective foes in conference championship games Sunday. Those wins mean the Harbaughs will be the first siblings to face off as head coaches in the NFL's title contest and, in fact, for any major U.S. professional sports championship.
Both teams rallied from halftime deficits on the road to earn berths in the Super Bowl, which will be played February 3 in New Orleans.
Baltimore did it by reeling off 21 straight points to overcome Tom Brady and the New England Patriots. It was sweet revenge for the Ravens, who lost last year's nail-biter AFC Championship to the same Patriots foe on the same Gillette Stadium field in Foxborough, Massachusetts.
A few hours earlier, the 49ers rallied from a 17-0 hole to defeat the Atlanta Falcons, who had posted the best regular season record in the NFC.
John Harbaugh joked to reporters, after the Ravens' win, that he and his brothers had a "few dreams" -- one of which may have been meeting up in the Super Bowl -- as well "as a few fights ... just like all brothers."
"We'll let the two teams duke it out, as much as possible," John Harbaugh said, smiling.
The Baltimore coach then made a point to talk about how proud he was of his brother Jim, as well as how much he admired the San Francisco team.
"I'd like to think that when you look at (the) two teams, you're looking at mirror images," John Harbaugh said, referring to the Super Bowl foes. "It's going to be a great football game."
Baltimore's dominant second half leads to win
Beyond their recent playoff history, Baltimore and New England matched up earlier this season -- one in which the Ravens came back from a late 9-point deficit, winning on a last-second field goal by Justin Tucker.
Still, victory Sunday evening was hardly guaranteed.
New England had the superior regular record, not to mention a storied playoff pedigree having played in five Super Bowls in the past 11 years. They also had Brady, who last Sunday passed Joe Montana as the quarterback with the most playoff wins ever.
And the Patriots started out strong, jumping to a 3-0 lead and -- after a Baltimore score -- entering halftime up 13-7.
But the second half was all Baltimore. The Ravens scored touchdowns on their first three possessions, two of them on Joe Flacco touchdown passes to receiver Anquan Boldin.
Meanwhile, the vaunted Patriots offense sputtered, hurt especially by a Stevan Ridley fumble and two Brady interceptions. Baltimore ended up winning 28-13.
"We came here last year and left with a bitter taste in our mouths," Baltimore's Boldin told reporters after the game. "We felt like this team took something away from us. And we wanted to come back and make that right."
49ers rally, hold on for 28-24 victory
Led by quarterbacks Montana and Steve Young, San Francisco was one of the NFL's top franchises through much of the 1980s and 1990s.
But the 49ers haven't been in the Super Bowl in 1995, and their 2000s were marred by mostly losing regular seasons.
The team's fortunes, however, have turned since the 2011 hiring of Jim Harbaugh, a former NFL quarterback himself who'd been coaching at nearby Stanford. The next season, they made it to the NFC Championship, only to fall to the eventual Super Bowl winners, the New York Giants.
On Sunday, trailing by three scores midway through the second quarter, San Francisco rallied for two quick touchdowns -- one on a LaMichael James 11-yard run, the other on a four-yard reception by tight end Vernon Davis.
Still, Atlanta maintained its slim advantage -- in part thanks to a missed field goal and a fumble by the 49ers Michael Crabtree just inches from the end zone -- into the fourth quarter. But then, running back Frank Gore scored from nine yards out to put San Francisco ahead 28-24.
At this point, there were still just over eight minutes left in the game.
Atlanta -- paced by quarterback Matt Ryan, known as "Matty Ice" for his strong play in the waning minutes of games -- made a run. With just over a minute to go, the Falcons got within striking distance of the goal line. But San Francisco defenders broke up two straight passes, effectively sealing the win.
After the game, San Francisco linebacker Patrick Willis said the 49ers prevailed because they refused to give up and stuck together as a team, just as they have all season long.
"One thing about our team all year long is that we continue to fight," Willis told Fox, which broadcast the game. "We have an unbelievable team."
Dawn Richard Brings The Blue Lip Back For SFPL
There are only a few chicks that can rock that bold blue lip and Dawn Richard is one of them.
Just in time for her Goldenheart album release, which is available on Itunes, she’s looking crazy fierce as she rocks the cover of SFPL’s January Digital Cover. In the photo spread, she alternates between a high bun and long braid as she models leather and Louboutins.
She also dishes on what influenced her latest project:
I feel like now we’re in a time where we are very divided, angry, and we hate a lot. I think with my music what I am trying to do is build an army of people who fight for something together instead of against each other. With that inspiration I wanted you to have the “Armor On” to guard yourself and prepare for the battle. What goes on in the album is that we actually stand together and fight for one another on the front line and we’re not fighting against each other, we’re fighting with each other for the people who don’t believe that we’re beautiful enough, great enough, brown enough, or white enough.

Frank Ocean Nominated For GLAAD Media Award
Frank Ocean may want to invest in a trophy case—if he hasn't already. Ocean has been nominated for a GLAAD (Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation) Media Award.
The New Orleans native has been spotlighted alongside Gossip, the Scissor Sister, Rufus Wainwright, and American Idol alum, Adam Lambert, in the Outstanding Music Artist category. “Images and stories from the LGBT community continued to push support for equality to historic levels,” said GLAAD President Herndon Graddick in a statement. “This year's nominees enlighten and entertain, but also reflect a new American landscape where a growing majority accept and value their LGBT family, colleagues and friends. Now more than ever, viewers not only accept gay and transgender characters and plot lines, they accept them—just as they both accept and expect LGBT people to be a valuable part of their everyday lives.”
Ocean came out of the closet last summer, just ahead of the release of his Channel Orange debut, revealing that his first love was a man. He is rumored to be dating model, Willy Cartier.
Aside from his latest awards nod, he's also been nominated for six Grammys including Best New Artist, and Record of The Year.
Nike Unveils 2013 Black History Month Collection
Nike has revealed its 2013 Black History Month (BHM) collection and it pays tribute to three athletes: soccer player Didier Drogba, tennis player Serena Williams and NBA star Kevin Durant. The BHM collection's mantra is "Be Bold. Be True." and it features numerous sneaker models and apparel with an aesthetic that hopes to honor the effect of sports on society.
From Nike's press release:
Consisting of seven shoes, two T-shirts, a Destroyer jacket, Nike Elite socks and a 5-panel hat, the 2013 Nike BHM Collection will debut beginning January 26. A consistent design aesthetic weaves through each product in the collection, with a color palette including black, grey and brown highlighted in orange. The color orange is particularly meaningful with its bold hue and tie to Nike's DNA since its 1972 inception.
Each of the three iconic athletes will get their own logo tied to the collection.
Drogba's is a light bulb morphed with a soccer ball, representing his ongoing involvement in bringing solar light bulbs to impoverished areas in Africa. Williams' icon consists of a tennis ball emanating with lightning bolts, showing how she empowers young women, especially through the secondary school she helped build in Kenya. Durant's icon represents the hopes and dreams of young athletes, with a basketball hoop merging with a cloud formation, a nod to the support he has given to his hometown recreation center in Seat Pleasant, Maryland...
The shoes in the collection, as well as apparel, are courtesy of Nike Sportswear and Nike Basketball. They include the Nike Lunar Force 1, Nike Air Force 1 Foamposite Hi, Nike Dunk Sky Hi and Nike Air Force 1 Downtown from Nike Sportwear side, while the the Zoom KD V, LeBron X and Kobe 8 System from the Nike Basketball side. All the shoes and clothes implement the black, grey and orange "BHM" print/colorway.
Proceeds from sales of the BHM collection will be donated to Big Brothers Big Sisters of America.

Was Yandy Smith & Mandeecees FIRED from LHHNY?
The rumors, speculation and buzz about the third season of Mona Scott-Young’s ‘Love & Hip Hop’ (NY) are running at a rampant pace. Earlier today, we caught wind of a rumor suggesting that because of some negative legal press both Yandy Smith and (her boyfriend/baby-daddy) Mandeeceess Harris’ were being dropped from the VH1 show.
Tattle Tailzz reported:
34-year-old Mandeeceess Harris’ upcoming trial over charges he sexually assaulted a minor , has led Mona Scott the producers of Love & Hip Hop to drop both Yandy and Mandeecees from the cast. Sources say their decision stems from fear of possible heat they may generate over their lack of background checks of their cast. That’s why we’re told producers of the VH1 reality showwere previously busy editing out the ousted pair from their most recently broadcast episode.
Is there any truth to this? According to the show’s producer, Mona Scott-Young, absolutely false. On twitter, she responded to the story, saying:
~Not true at all..
CUTE!!!!
Jermaine Dupri Saves His Crib One More Time
Jermaine Dupri almost went into foreclosure once or twice or three times [click here, here and here if you missed that], and he just saved his house from going on the auction block again...
According to TMZ
Jermaine rescued his home -- filing an emergency motion just days after Christmas, insisting the foreclosure company has continually failed to prove that Jermaine actually owes the money it claims he does.
The company claims he owes roughly $410,000 on the home -- Jermaine insists he only owes $111,845.
The judge sided with Jermaine -- despite the producer admitting in the court docs that he hasn't made a mortgage payment since November 2011 -- and canceled the auction.
A hearing on the debt dispute has not been scheduled yet.
Woman Steals Police Car Arrested At McDonald’s
A woman stole a St. Petersburg police cruiser Saturday night and drove it to Tampa, where she fled from the car before being arrested, police said.
It all started at 9:27 p.m. when two officers, driving separate cars, arrived at the scene of a domestic quarrel at an apartment at 980 62nd Ave. S. While the officers were inside the apartment, a woman, later identified as Vanessa Brooks, 22, flagged down a passing truck on 62nd Avenue, police said.
After the driver stopped, Brooks reached inside the truck, grabbed a cellphone, and ran back into the apartment complex, police said.
As the driver chased her, Brooks made her way to where the officers had parked their cars. She jumped inside one, grabbed the keys, which were not in the ignition, and started the car, police said. As Brooks backed the car up, she collided with the other police car, causing damage. She then took off, police said.
At 9:41 p.m., the officers came back outside and discovered the missing car. They alerted other officers of the theft and notified Tampa police and the Florida Highway Patrol to be on the lookout for the stolen car, authorities said.
At 9:58 p.m., Tampa police officers saw the car in the parking lot of a McDonald’s restaurant at 1600 Kennedy Blvd., police said. Brooks ran from the car and officers chased and arrested her. Meanwhile, the car, which was left in gear, rolled backward and collided with a tree, police said.
Brooks is facing charges of vehicle burglary, auto theft and leaving the scene of a crash. She was in the process of being booked in the Pinellas County Jail late Saturday night, police said.
