Heavy D’ Doc on Centric
Tonight!
The Centric channel is looking to honor the late Heavy
D with a new documentary that will include appearances from a number of top
figures in hip hop. ‘Be Inspired: The Life of Heavy D’ is set to air on the
station on tonight, February 26th at 11:00 p.m. EST.
The documentary is set
to run for one hour and will include footage from Heavy D’s performances
including his last appearance on the small screen during the BET Hip-Hop Awards,
which went down in October, 2011.
Centric has pulled in a number of hip hop stars for a
series of interviews that will be included in the doc. The list of hip hop icons
that Centric has asked to reflect on their relationships with Hev includes Mary
J. Blige, Queen Latifah, Will Smith, Brett Ratner, MC Lyte as well as several
others. Latifah will talk about how Heavy D became her mentor, while Will Smith
will discuss their joint beginnings in Hollywood and hip hop according to Market
Watch.
Heavy D’s family will tell stories about the late
musician and artists who were involved in the early days of hip hop alongside
Hev including Doug E. Fresh, Big Daddy Kane and Kurtis Blow will offer some
insight into the legendary singer’s personal life.
Heavy D passed away in November after he was found collapsed outside of his home in Beverly Hills by a designer. Hev was immediately rushed to hospital but doctors were unable to save him from a pulmonary embolism. The embolism was caused by a condition known as deep leg thrombosis which could have been brought on by a flight that Hev took from Europe to L.A. the day before his death.
