In an interview with GQ Style the stand up comedian, writer, and director discussed how ridding his life of the internet, was a great decision.
Obviously, this is odd advice from an online only publication, but you can always get a friend/your Nan to print out indy100 articles for you to read. And you can argue with other people on public transport instead of using the comments section.
Studies have shown that internet addiction share some neural features as addictions to cocaine and gambling.
The hegemony of the internet is such that it's created a counter culture, and according to the BBC 'digital detoxes' are regularly undertaken by millions of Britons.
Aziz Ansari has broached the topic of how the internet is ruining love before.
In his stand up he's talked about 'dick pics', 'ghosting' and all the other horrible parts of courting that contemporary technology has made possible.
His Netflix show Master of None frequently places a smart phone as the enabler of the worst habits of Ansari's character Dev.
In the show it's all pervasive. Restaurant reviews and Pinterest boards spoil lunch, by spoiling Dev with too much choice when all he wants is a taco, or when his character sends out a mass invite for a gig ticket, so he can then choose which affirmative response to turn down.
So it's little surprise he's eschewed the online world in his real life, outside of the web obsessed universe in Master of None.
Ansari told GQ Style about how he’d deleted his internet browser from his phone and laptop. He also got rid of his e-mail.
Whenever you check for a new post on Instagram or whenever you go to on The New York Times to see if there’s a new thing, it’s not even about the content.
It’s just about seeing a new thing. You get addicted to that feeling, you’re not going to be able to control yourself. So the only way to fight that is to take yourself out of the equation and remove all these things. What happens is, eventually you forget about it. You don’t care anymore.
For some nerds, one of the best thing about smartphones is looking stuff up, but Ansari points out that most of things you Google at the dinner table weren’t questions that needed an answer right there and then.
But what on earth does he do without the likes, the upvotes, the push notifications, the Trump tweets? Ansari explained to GQ Style:
I’ve been doing it for a couple months and it’s worked. I’m reading, like, three books right now. I’m putting something in my mind. It feels so much better than just reading the Internet and not remembering anything.
He doesn’t reserve his disavowal of the internet for social media, or ‘fluff’. Ansari also has a critique of news online. Essentially, the stuff that really matters, you will hear about it. The rest is noise.
I was reading all this Trump stuff, and it doesn't feel like we're reading news for the reason we used to, which was to get a better sense of what's going on in the world and to enrich yourself by being aware. It seems like we're reading wrestling rumors.
It's like reading about what happened on Monday Night Raw. When you take a step back, it all just seems so sensationalized. Trump's gonna get impeached! No, he's not. None of that sh*t's happening. But you are going to read all the articles. So if you take yourself out of it, you're not infected with this toxicity all the time. Also, guess what? Everything is fine! I'm not out of the loop on anything. Like, if something real is going down, I'll find out about it.
He summed it up in ten words. I'm not choosing ignorance. I'm choosing to not watch wrestling.

Aaron Carter Opens Up About His Bi-Sexuality in a Emotional Letter on Social Media!
The 29-year-old entertainer took to Twitter on Saturday night (August 5) to share an emotional and extremely vulnerable letter with his fans.
“To start off, I would like to say that I love each and EVERY ONE of my fans,” Aaron begins. “There’s something I’d like to say that I feel is important for myself and my identity that has been weighing on my chest for nearly half of my life. This doesn’t bring me shame, just a weight and burden I have held onto for a long time that I would like lifted off me.”
Aaron then goes on to reveal that he has had relationships with both women and men.
“I grew up in this entertainment industry at a very young age and when I was around 13-years-old I started to find boys and girls attractive,” Aaron continued. “There were years that went by that I thought about, but it wasn’t until I was 17-years-old, after a few relationships with girls, I had an experience with a male that I had an attraction to who I also worked with and grew up with.”

#TECHNEWS: Apple’s rumored smart glasses may feature 3D cameras without a dedicated display
The enthralling augmented reality videos we’ve seen iOS developers release over the past few weeks may only be the beginning of Apple’s augmented reality ambitions. According to a new report from the Financial Times, Apple is actively trying to develop a pair of AR powered smart glasses, echoing a number of previous rumors we’ve seen sprout up over the last few months.
Interestingly, the report notes that Apple is exploring a number of different designs for its rumored smart glasses, with one design said to feature 3D cameras with no accompanying display on the device itself. A final design has yet to be determined, with the report adding that Apple is still trying to figure out what type of feature set would provide an optimal user experience.
“A particular area of experimentation, people familiar with the matter say, is a pair of AR glasses that might move cameras, sensors and screens from the smartphone to the face,” the report reads. “Yet despite the excitement surrounding ARKit, internally the company is still not sure what the most compelling application for such a headset might be.”
The notion that Apple is working on a pair of smart glasses is, again, nothing new. Not only have a number of credible sources confirmed Apple’s research in the area, Apple over the last 18 months has hired a number of reputed engineers and researchers with vast experience in fields such as optics and head-mounted displays. Indeed, some of the engineers working on the project previously worked on the Oculus Rift and Microsoft’s HoloLens headset.
Last November, Bloomberg added: While still in an exploration phase, the device would connect wirelessly to iPhones, show images and other information in the wearer’s field of vision, and may use augmented reality, the people said. They asked not to be identified speaking about a secret project.
Furthermore, a purported Foxconn insider divulged a number of intriguing tidbits regarding Apple’s smart glasses project during an all-encompassing Reddit AMA this past June. According to this mysterious insider — whose identity was confirmed by Reddit moderators — Apple’s smart glasses will likely be equipped with a microphone for Siri commands along with an accelerometer to determine when a user moves his or her head in a certain direction. It’s worth noting that the Foxconn insider believes that Apple’s smart glasses will not include a camera due to battery life considerations, a design which is seemingly at odds with what the Financial Times reported above.
Features aside, Apple’s smart glasses — assuming it ever sees the light of day — will reportedly come in varying sizes for men and women and will be available in a few color options.

Fox News Suspends Host Eric Bolling Amid Accusations of Sexual Harassment
Yet another man associated with Fox News is facing scrutiny for what appears to have been a pattern of sexual harassment that may have lasted years. The cable news channel suspended host and contributor Eric Bolling on Saturday amid allegations that he sent lewd photographs via text message to three female colleagues. Hours after the suspension was announced, Caroline Heldman, a politics professor at Occidental College who was a frequent guest on the network from 2008 to 2011, said Bolling made numerous unsolicited sexual advances at her.
The HuffPost talked to more than a dozen sources in and out of Fox News who confirmed Bolling sent a photo of a man’s genitalia to two colleagues at Fox Business and another at Fox News. The recipients, who remain anonymous, confirmed the allegations, noting the photos were sent several years ago. Less than 24 hours after that story was published, Fox News announced Bolling’s suspension pending an investigation. In a statement, Bolling’s lawyer said that the Fox News host “recalls no such inappropriate communications, does not believe he sent any such communications, and will vigorously pursue his legal remedies for any false and defamatory accusations that are made.”
