I’m in a north London barber shop that has defied gentrification and remained in business for almost 30 years. Although this fact reveals his age, the shop’s owner, Nev, is only a little irked that he didn’t get a heads-up before his super famous client glided into his premises for our interview. As he punctually floats in off the street like any other guy, Daniel Kaluuya apologises: “You know how it is, Nev,” he says, in a covert reference to his A-list status. It’s the first insight I get into how Kaluuya navigates fame. Sitting in his long-time barber’s shop, he comes across like one of the lads. As a string of Nev’s regulars walk in, they each receive a brotherly nod of respect. No entourage, security or conspicuous Jeep have accompanied Kaluuya here, but his appearance provides clues to his celebrity — from how he holds himself, to the delicately embroidered name tag on his varsity jacket and the designer sunglasses worn backwards across what must be a fresh fade.
The barber shop represents more than the place where Kaluuya gets his hair cut. It’s where the seed was first planted for his latest venture and directorial debut, The Kitchen, out soon on Netflix after its premiere at the London Film Festival for the event’s closing night gala screening.
“Back then it was Reservoir Dogs in a barber shop,” says Kaluuya of the project’s inception. The idea came about after he overheard a conversation about the million-pound smash-and-grab robberies that targeted London jewellers. “I heard about the heists and how the guys doing it were getting £200. £200? That means there’s no one around that they can sell it to for a million. It said a lot about class.” It set him thinking about the thieves “who didn’t understand their worth,” as he says.
Rather than writing a traditional film treatment, Kaluuya shot a “taster” here in the barber shop to “show the idea in the medium that it’s going to be digested in — none of this coffee shit”. With a low chuckle that frequently warms our chat, he lovingly recalls the condition he had from boss man, Nev. “He would’ve given [the location] to me for free, but we threw him some change. I remember him saying, ‘Just don’t cut me out!’” As promised, Nev appears in the film numerous times — more of which later.
Not even halfway through his thirties, Kaluuya, who turns 35 in February, has already garnered the kinds of accolades that tell a poster-boy success story, making him the obvious choice to win The Film Award, in collaboration with Rémy Martin. After playing Posh Kenneth in Skins — he also co-wrote a number of episodes — he won big-screen roles that have carved a new cinematic language by meticulously exploring the historical and contemporary Black experience.
Get Out tackled the facade of Obama’s ‘post-racial’ America, looking at what it’s like to be Black in middle-class white society. Set in 1960s Chicago, Judas and the Black Messiah follows Kaluuya as one of the chairmen of the Black Panther Party. The film’s themes rode the wave of the Black Lives Matter uprising of 2020. Also, on that note, Marvel’s Black Panther, which centred Black characters and the Afrofuturism of its setting in Wakanda — a fictional country that imagined a world in which Africa had not been colonised — was bold in its take on the superhero genre, which until then had mostly revolved around white males and focused on the West. Kaluuya’s filmography is more than just impressive, it’s culturally significant.
While his previous work saw him explore American politics, with The Kitchen, the Camden Town-born actor has come home to platform Black British life with something he says aims to be “unapologetically us” with the “richness and complexities of our house”.
Whatever you thought you knew about Kaluuya becomes further enriched after viewing the film, which he admits without hesitation is his most personal work.
Along with co-writer Joe Murtagh (Calm with Horses) and co-director Kibwe Tavares (of Sundance hit Robots of Brixton), Kaluuya tells a dystopian story of a London that has sold its soul. All social housing has been eradicated, and the ‘Kitchen’ is the last of the blocks still standing. Despite orders to move out, many residents refuse to leave their homes. Although set in a near crumbling future, the date specifics were removed so people could “leave it to the imagination”.
On the film’s promo poster is the strapline ‘every city has its Kitchen’, a poetically solemn statement that begs to be unpacked. “We’re articulating something dynamic — that the people that are seemingly oppressed are actually resilient. They are joyful, but also don’t fuck with us! A lot of this was inspired by Liverpool and what they did with the Sun newspaper, where they just told everyone to fuck themselves. Then, it was the only northern city not to vote Brexit, and that’s not an accident. They have a unified identity.”

#RHOA: There are ‘No Talks’ Between NeNe Leakes and Bravo for RHOA Return Despite Rumors
While the reckoning hasn’t really taken over, BravoCon did and it was there Andy spoke on possibly having NeNe return to Bravo. He was definitely ambiguous and made sure not to say anything negative, which turned into chatter about NeNe’s big comeback. Amid speculation something big is about to happen, turns out it might take a minute. If it happens at all. The Messenger has the scoop.
Not so fast, NeNe …An insider shared “There have been no talks of [NeNe’s] returning” to RHOA at this time. But we all know the show is in big trouble and we all know who could save it. Unfortunately, NeNe burned a lot of bridges when she chose to sue Bravo and simultaneously insult Andy repeatedly.
That said, it looked like something might be happening when NeNe deleted all traces of Bethenny and her reckoning podcast from Instagram. A source shared, “It meant nothing. She [NeNe] was just cleaning up her feed.” There was also excitement when Bravo followed NeNe on Instagram and NeNe followed back.
NeNe has admitted she would return to RHOA “for the fans” but she also probably “needs the check.” Since her departure from the show, NeNe hasn’t had a regular gig because she was busy trying to sue the network. Ultimately, she wound up dropping the discrimination suit.
Andy and NeNe might not be texting back and forth right now but Andy is no dummy. Despite unresolved personal feelings about NeNe and her public bashing, he may pull a Hail Mary to put RHOA back at the top. Never say never.

The documentary traces Whack’s journey from performing on Philadelphia streets to her current success. The official trailer stated, “Tierra Whack rose to fame rapping on a Philadelphia street for a YouTube channel. Years later, while documenting her astronomical rise, questions arise about who is filming whom and whether being seen is a desirable and unavoidable part of fame.”
In an interview with Complex, Whack revealed her intention with the project. She explained, “I just wanted to show that I can act. I feel like with my fans, I set the standard to always expect the unexpected. That’s my catchphrase. It’s just simply that. So you think it’s one thing, but it’s a whole other thing. You got to stay on your toes the whole time.”
Regarding how Cypher compares to creating music, Whack continued, “I had a script to memorize, but it still was me being me. Even within the music, I’m always pulling from different artists and films and all of my experiences in life and then just pouring it into the music. So I’m always making sure that I just pull from my life experiences and influences.”
Recently, Whack returned to music with her single “Chanel Pit,” previewing her upcoming sophomore LP. Discussing the single to Andscape, Whack noted, “My friends are like, ‘Yo, we want to hear you talk a little bit like, you know, just get on, like, show that Philly.’ So I did that for them.” She also discussed her new album, emphasizing its honesty.
The forthcoming project will serve as a proper follow-up to 2018’s Whack World. The 15-song project clocked in just under 15 minutes with standout cuts like “Flea Market,” “Hungry Hippo” and “Pretty Ugly,” among others.

After she wrapped the last show of her “Renaissance World Tour,” Beyoncé dropped a trailer for fans on Oct. 2, capturing behind-the-scenes moments from her record-breaking tour spliced between clips of her performance and fan reactions to the singer on stage.
According to a press release, the film “accentuates the journey” of the “Renaissance World Tour,” which kicked off May 10 in Sweden and ended Oct. 1 in Missouri.
”It is about Beyoncé's intention, hard work, involvement in every aspect of the production, her creative mind and purpose to create her legacy, and master her craft,” the press release continued.
More than a month after the initial trailer dropped, Beyoncé shared an exclusive trailer during a special appearance on the 2023 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. The trailer included more clips of the singer, in addition to footage of her performances set to the song “Summer Renaissance.”

Diddy's Former Head of Security Vows to Tell His 'Truth' After Being Named in Cassie's Lawsuit
Sean "P. Diddy" Combs' former head of security has broken his silence after being named in Cassie's bombshell lawsuit. Roger Bonds, who worked for the hip-hop mogul for years, declared in a new social media post that he will tell his "truth."
On Saturday, November 25, Roger shared a note along with several pictures of him with Diddy and Cassie in public. The message read, "This is not meant to be threats or snitching or anything like that against Cassie or Diddy or anyone else."
"this is me telling my truth as I truly remember it for 2 reasons only," he added. "1st because I have 4 daughters so on all dudes my truth as I seen it, saw it and was involved with it for yrs."
In the caption, he penned, "IM WILLING TO TELL MY TEUTH (sic) BECAUSE FOR SO MANY YRS I WAS QUIET." He further declared, "Nothing matters now but FAMILY."

Although the case has been dropped, Diddy faces two more sexual assault lawsuits. A woman named Joi Dickerson-Neal accused the rapper of rape, drugging and revenge porn back in 1991, while a third plaintiff, who goes by Jane Doe, alleged that Diddy and R&B star Aaron Hall took turns raping her and her friend at an MCA Records event in New York City in the early 1990s.

Alabama Riverboat Brawl Participants Launch Merch Line, Look to Take Legal Action Against People Using Their Likeness
Two people involved in the now-infamous Alabama waterfront melee are toting merchandise based on the event that took place on August 5. The pair wasn't pleased that other people were capitalizing off their likeness and the altercation they were a part of.
According to TMZ, Reggie Ray—who was charged with disorderly conduct after swinging (and landing) a folding chair at people during the fight—joined fellow brawl member Tammie Howard with help from attorney Jehan "J" Carter to start the 'Alabama Brawl Collection.' With unisex items retailed at $12.99 to $59.99, the collection includes tees, sweatshirts, hoodies, caps, water bottles and mugs that read slogans like "Chairman for Justice," "Fade in the Water," and "Lift Every Chair and Swing." The collection also invites customers to "celebrate the bravery of the Alabama Brawl."
On e-commerce sites like Etsy and Amazon, Ray and Howard noticed that other sellers made inventory based on the brawl, which occurred on the Montgomery Riverfront after a group docked their pontoon boat in an area reserved for the city's riverboat, the Harriott II. A confrontation happened between Black Harriott II dock worker Dameion Pickett and the group, who were white, leading a few other Harriott II crew members and Black bystanders to attack the group in Pickett's defense.
The brawl ended with five individuals being charged and a viral moment regarding the widely-shared footage and anti-Black racism in the South. “As our police department investigates these intolerable actions, we should not become desensitized to violence of any kind in our community,” Montgomery Mayor Steven L. Reed posted on X in the brawl's aftermath. “Those who choose violence will be held accountable by our criminal justice system.”
Along with profiting off of their involvement in the brawl, Ray and Howard want other sellers to pay up, as the two plan on taking legal action against those who've sold merch using their likeness and trademarks without their consent.
Minnesota attorney general speaks on Derek Chauvin being the "target of violence" after prison stabbing
The Bureau of Prisons confirmed to The Associated Press that “responding employees initiated life-saving measures for one incarcerated individual” at the Federal Correctional Institution in Tucson. “No employees were injured during the incident,” continued their statement. Visitation to the facility, which houses 380 inmates, has been suspended.
On Saturday (Nov. 25), Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison said that he was “sad to hear that Derek Chauvin was the target of violence. He was duly convicted of his crimes, and, like any incarcerated individual, he should be able to serve his sentence without fear of retaliation or violence.”
Ellison, who led the prosecution in the trial against Chauvin in 2021, released a book in May titled, “Break the Wheel: Ending the Cycle of Police Violence.” The book revisits the murder case of Floyd and the country’s reckoning with police violence and accountability.
The disgraced cop is concurrently serving two sentences of over 20 years each for the death of Floyd and for the violation of a 14-year-old boy’s civil rights. He was convicted of second-degree unintentional murder, third-degree murder, and second-degree manslaughter in a highly publicized trial in April 2021. As widely reported by REVOLT, Chauvin kneeled on Floyd’s neck and back for nine minutes as the 46-year-old pleaded that he was unable to breathe.
In February 2022, Chauvin pleaded guilty to civil rights violations in a separate case where he was accused of kneeling on a 14-year-old’s in a similar fashion during an arrest in 2017.
On Monday (Nov. 20), the U.S. Supreme Court denied Chauvin’s appeal to overturn the guilty verdict in the Floyd case. His lawyers argued that he did not receive a fair trial due to the publicity surrounding the case. Additional officers charged in relation to the fatal arrest include J. Alexander Kueng, Thomas Lane and Tou Thao, who were each convicted of depriving Floyd of his civil rights. Kueng and Thao were also convicted of failing to intervene as Chauvin kneeled on the man’s neck.
Oscar Pistorius Granted Parole A Decade After Killing His Girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp
Oscar Pistorius was granted parole on Friday more than 10 years after she shot and killed his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp on Valentine’s Day 2013. South Africa’s National Department of Correctional Services said in a statement that the parole made its decision, “having assessed Mr. Pistorius’ profile and other material submitted for the purposes of parole consideration,” and noted that he was a “first-time offender with a positive support system.”
The parole board also said the decision would not take effect until January 5, 2024.
During his 2014 trial, Oscar Pistorius, known as the “Blade Runner” for his carbon-fiber prosthetic legs, claimed he shot and killed Reeva through a locked bathroom door because he had mistaken her for an intruder.
No one bought what Oscar was selling and he was ultimately convicted of murder and sentenced to 13 years and five months in prison in 2017.

Tiffany Haddish’s Former Friend Says She’s Ready To Expose The Actress For Being “Evil” & “Desperate For Fame” In Forthcoming Defamation Case
According to reports, the plaintiff, named Trizah Morris, will appear in arbitration court soon to argue her case against Tiffany Haddish. The woman is accusing the “Girls Trip” star of intentionally smearing her name while claiming she was the victim of extortion when Morris filed suit on behalf of her children. If you recall, Haddish and her colleague Arie Spears were accused of grooming the kids they hired to appear in some of their old and sexually suggestive comedy skits.
Despite them initially denying all allegations, the comedians eventually settled the matter privately. However, Morris now claims that she suffered a great deal as a result of Haddish’s reverse accusations against her. She claims that after the settlement was reached, she contacted both of the jokester’s legal representation in hopes they would release a statement, clearing her name of any extortion talk. Once that wasn’t done, she took the matter legal.
Upon receiving the new lawsuit from Morris, Haddish reportedly submitted a successful motion to a court judge who ruled the case would be tried in arbitration court as the two had an NDA in place. Reportedly, Morris initially expressed concern over the matter. However, she recently shared that feels more ready as she has a better understanding of the process. In a recently released statement, she reportedly shared:
“I wasn’t concerned about the case being out of the public eye because I am not personally interested in any exposure…I was more concerned about the arbitration because I didn’t understand the process. Now that I know how it works, I look forward to presenting concrete evidence of how my daughter and I were bullied into signing the agreement and how she lied about being extorted.”
I plan on exposing how evil and desperate for fame Tiffany really is.” Morris reportedly claims she’s suffered personally, academically, professionally, and financially as a result of the extortion claims and has dealt with anxiety and mental anguish as well. It does not appear that Haddish has spoken publicly about the matter at this time, and it is unclear when the case will be tried in court.
Tyler Perry’s Abusive Father Refuses Chance to Clear the Air – Lashes Out at Documentary Film Crew
*Tyler Perry’s life story may be at the center of a new documentary but don’t expect insight into the entertainment mogul from his abusive father.
Although he had a chance to clear the air surrounding abusing his famous son, Emmitt Perry Sr. was anything but open when a film crew for “Maxine’s Baby: The Tyler Perry Story,” came to speak to him.
WBLS reports via People that the patriarch was verbally abusive towards the film crew when directors Armani Ortiz and Gelila Bekele traveled to Louisiana with Perry’s cousin, Lucky Johnson, to interview him.
“That was a difficult moment when we went to go film him and being in the car and just getting that interaction,” Ortiz said about the incident, which was captured in “Maxine’s Baby.” “I remember calling Gelila [and saying], ‘We didn’t get it. We didn’t get the interview,’ and I was heartbroken. I was like, ‘Yo, this is going to be a chance for him to tell his truth also and to give a little bit more context as to what really happened.’ “
“And [Bekele] was like, ‘No, that’s the answer that the story needs, because it’s his answer. It is what he wanted to do, and what he wanted to do is not be a part of it at all,’” he added.
The elder Perry’s reaction to the film crew comes amid the release of “Maxine’s Baby.” The feature, which is currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video, chronicles Perry’s life and childhood abuse as well as the popularity of his films. Critics of the 54-entertainer’s work are also highlighted, with scenes from the documentary being filmed in Louisiana, New Orleans, the city where Perry grew up.
The abuse Perry suffered at the hands of his father is a topic he has been vocal about, most notably via an appearance on “The Oprah Winfrey Show.” During that episode, the “Midea” actor cited emotional abuse as the reason he changed his birth name—Emmitt Jr., after his father, Emmitt Sr.—to Tyler.
Throughout “Maxine’s Baby,” Gelila and Ortiz wanted “to create a space for polarity,” according to People.
“We wanted to sort of give it a chance for [Emmitt] to explain what happened [during Tyler’s childhood],” Gelila said. “It could go in two different directions — either he might not remember it and just deny it, or he is going to be regretful and sorry, and sort of say his piece and just have a conversation. But naturally, it just ended up being that way.”

Krispy Kreme is teaming up with Buddy the Elf for a new collaboration commemorating the 20th anniversary of the film.
The partnership will produce a new line of doughnuts inspired by the adored holiday character, who made his theater debut in 2003. The Elf line debuted on November 24th, inspired by the comedy. Customers have three new flavors to choose from, which are appropriately named the Buddy Snow Globe, the Buddy Makes Breakfast, and the Christmas Lights. As part of the new menu, Krispy Kreme will also bring back the Santa Belly donut.
The new three donuts all put a spin on the Krispy Kreme original glaze donut. Those who go for the Buddy Snow Globe option will be met with sugar-cookie light blue icing that is finished with white sprinkles and powdered sugar. The Buddy Makes Breakfast donut is draped in a unique blend of cake batter spaghetti buttercream, sprinkles, milk chocolate pieces, and maple drizzle.
