Tinashe for Indie Magazine Spring/Summer 2020!

Tinashe likes to live in the moment, but when we speak over FaceTime in mid-March, she’s quarantined like the rest of Los Angeles. It’s early in America’s spread of the new coronavirus and, luckily, she’s got her home studio. “It’s my career. It doesn’t stop,” she says of what she frequently refers to as “making art” as opposed to “making music.” Her spring tour may be postponed, and will have to be rescheduled, but that doesn’t mean she’s chilling.

“I’m typically the type of person who hates being told what to do,” Tinashe says from her house in the Hollywood Hills. She’s fresh-faced, hair barely mussed, in a teal hoodie that matches the gel on her nails—quarantine chic. “Anytime someone mandates me to do anything, I don’t want to do it.” She lives alone with her cat but frequently has collaborators, family, and friends over to eat her cooking on Taco Tuesdays, and work in her backhouse studio.

That’s where Tinashe now brings her computer outside and into her studio to show INDIE what she does on her own time, at her own request. It’s a separate space, which helps keep work and home from blurring—and from just anyone she invites over to the studio being given all access.

#RHOA: ShereΓ© Whitfield Explains Her Mom's Disappearance Last Month: 'She Needed Some Time'!
ShereΓ© Whitfield is opening up about the scare she experienced last month when her mom Thelma Ferguson disappeared without notice.

During a visit to Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen on Sunday, the Real Housewives of Atlanta alumna, 50, gave fans an update on Ferguson, explaining that her 72-year-old mother is "doing absolutely amazing."
"She’s healthy, she’s happy, and she’s just doing good," Whitfield said.
Ferguson went missing on March 23, after she was seen leaving her home in Springs, Georgia, to go to the bank. Her disappearance was reported to the Sandy Springs Police Department and later made headlines when Whitfield posted a plea for mother's safe return on social media. Eventually, Ferguson turned up "safe & healthy" 18 days later, on April 10.

Whitfield told Cohen that her mom was originally staying with her at her "Chateau ShereΓ©" in the beginning of the COVID-19 outbreak, but then she left.
"I don’t know, I think we were all getting on each other’s nerves at some point," said Whitfield, adding that her three adult children — Tierra, 34, Kairo, 24, and Kaleigh, 21 — were all at staying at home with her too.

"I think she kind of needed some time," Whitfield added of her mother. "And that’s who she is. She’s unapologetic about it. She don’t feels like she owes anyone [an explanation]."
Previously, Whitney had said on Instagram that her mother "often takes personal vacations without letting the family know and we respect that side of her."

And while reality star understands that Ferguson needs time, she said on WWHL that her mother never communicated that with Whitfield or the rest of the family.
"We did not know that," Whitfield said. "She took time and didn’t let us know."

"That was the longest we had gone without hearing from her," Whitfield added."And then we had this pandemic going on. So it was just a little scary for all of us."
Ferguson and Whitfield are close; the reality star’s mom often appeared on RHOA, including a season 10 episode in which they celebrated her 70th birthday with a huge, all-cast disco party.

“My mom is my hero; she always worked so hard to provide for me and our family,” Whitfield said at the time in her BravoTV.com blog. “It felt good to be able to do this for her and make this milestone birthday so special for her. She had a smile on her face the entire night!”
Prior to her WWHL appearance on Sunday, Whitfield shared a photo fo the two on Instagram.

"Screaming Happy Mother's Day to this Queen!!!" Whitfield wrote. "I also want to wish ALL of the amazing moms around the world a very Happy Mother's Day! Sending u Love, Light and Happiness! πŸ˜˜ #happymothersday."
Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen airs Sundays-Fridays (11 p.m. ET) on Bravo.

#HipHopNews: Diddy Shares Emotional Tribute To Andre Harrell!
Just days after the sudden passing of Andre Harrell, Sean “Diddy” Combs is opening up about the devastating loss.
Taking to social media on Monday, the hip-hop mogul penned a touching tribute to the legendary music executive, who died Thursday at the age of 59. In his post, an emotional Diddy said he’s trying to come to terms with the loss of his mentor and father figure.

“I honestly still can’t believe it, I’ve got to give myself the reality of this in doses,” he tweeted. “Because I can’t even handle this. I hope to God that you are all blessed to have someone in your life that loves you and believes in you like this man believed in me.”
He also sent his love to Harrell’s family including son Gianni and cousin O’Neal McKnight. “I’m going to miss him so much. I can’t even imagine life without Dre. God bless Gianni, O’Neal and the rest of the family,” added Puff. “LOVE YOU FOREVER DRE!!!!!!!!!!

In the early 1990s, Harrell gave a young Sean Combs his big break when he hired him as an intern at Uptown Records, after being introduced to him by Heavy D. Harrell fired Diddy in 1993 before he went on to found Bad Boy Records. “I guess Andre didn’t want two kings in the castle,” Diddy told The New York Times. “I had obtained some success, some notoriety, and I didn’t realize it wasn’t my house.”

They remained close throughout the years. In January, Puff paid tribute to his mentor while accepting the Industry Icon Award at The Recording Academy and Clive Davis’ Pre-Grammy Gala. “I wanna thank Andre for being a big brother, for believing in me. Dre, I’m only standing up here because you gave me the chance,” he said as Harrell looked on with tears in his eyes.
“As a black man, you took me underneath your wing… I call you my big brother, but tonight I gotta tell you the truth… I told you my father died when I was two-and-a-half. Andre, you’ve been my father for the last 30 years.”

Harrell died from heart failure at his home in West Hollywood, Calif. on Thursday night. In the wake of his death, friends including Mariah Carey, Teddy Riley, Russell Simmons, and Usher also paid tribute to the influential executive on social media.

Bryan Adams Faces Backlash After Blaming His Canceled Shows on People Who Eat Bats!
Bryan Adams took to social media on Monday (May 11) to lament about the cancellation of his shows at London’s Royal Albert Hall and his comments are now facing backlash.
In his post, the 60-year-old “Summer of ’69″ singer blamed the canceled concerts on wet market vendors.

“Tonight was supposed to be the beginning of a tenancy of gigs at the @royalalberthall, but thanks to some f–king bat eating, wet market animal selling, virus making greedy bastards, the whole world is now on hold, not to mention the thousands that have suffered or died from this virus,” Bryan wrote on Instagram.
He added, “My message to them other than ‘thanks a f–king lot’ is go vegan. To all the people missing out on our shows, I wish I could be there more than you know. It’s been great hanging out in isolation with my children and family, but I miss my other family, my band, my crew and my fans. Take care of yourselves and hope we can get the show on the road again soon.”

Bryan is trending on social media after his expletive-filled rant went viral on Twitter.

Nicholas Johnson, a Canadian student graduating with a major in operations research and financial engineering, was named Princeton University's valedictorian.
He's the first black student to be named valedictorian in the school's 274-year history.
Johnson called the title "empowering," and said being the school's first black valedictorian "holds special significance to me particularly given Princeton's historical ties to the institution of slavery."
Princeton's first nine presidents were all known slave owners, and enslaved people lived in the university's President's House until at least 1822.

Princeton University has named its first black valedictorian in the school's 274-year- history, and the student receiving the title called it "empowering."
Nicholas Johnson was named the school's valedictorian in a news release from Princeton. Johnson is a student from Montreal, Canada, who will be graduating with a major in operations research and financial engineering, according to CNN.

"It feels empowering. Being Princeton's first Black Valedictorian holds special significance to me particularly given Princeton's historical ties to the institution of slavery," Johnson told CNN. "I hope that this achievement motivates and inspires younger black students, particularly those interested in STEM fields."

During his time at Princeton, Johnson was part of the school's Engineers Without Borders and worked as a software engineer at Google's California campus.
His senior thesis looks into the obesity epidemic in Canada, and, according to Princeton, focuses on developing "high-performance, efficient algorithms to solve a network-based optimization problem that models a community-based preventative health intervention designed to curb the prevalence of obesity in Canada."
investment firm D.E. Shaw Group. He'll then start a PhD. program at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Johnson told CNN that it is "disappointing" his class won't have an in-person graduation because of the novel coronavirus pandemic. The university is holding a virtual ceremony on May 31.
"I have been comforted to see how well my friends and classmates have adapted to these challenging times, and have ensured that Princeton's strong community persists virtually despite our physical separation from one another," he told CNN.

Though he has yet to write his speech, he's planning on speaking about his academic success and graduating in the midst of a pandemic, according to ABC News.
He told ABC News that he was "really surprised" to learn he had been named the valedictorian, in part because of the school's deep ties to slavery.
"Don't let yourself be intimidated by individuals who don't look like you and might be dominating the space you are trying to enter," Johnson told ABC News.

Princeton, founded as the College of New Jersey in 1746, has ties to slavery dating back to the 1700s. The university's first nine presidents all owned slaves, and until at least 1822, enslaved people lived at the university's President's House, according to the school's Princeton & Slavery project.

YouTube Star Corey La Barrie Dead In Car Crash On 25th Birthday!
YouTube star Corey La Barrie died in a car crash on Sunday night while celebrating his 25th birthday.
According to TMZ, the alleged driver, “Ink Master” star Daniel Silva, is going to be arrested on murder charges.
Silva did not immediately return Page Six’s request for comment.

The gossip site reports that Silva, 26, crashed a McLaren sports car into a street sign and tree. La Barrie, in the passenger seat, took the brunt of the crash and was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Clips from social media show La Barrie drinking and dancing in his LA home earlier on Sunday. Sources told TMZ that the pair had been at a party earlier in the evening for La Barrie’s birthday, and that Silva had been seen drinking.
Silva worked his way out of homelessness at 19 by learning to tattoo and landed a slot on the 10th season of “Ink Masters” with just three years’ professional experience by winning an episode of the show’s spinoff, “Ink Master: Angels.”

On Monday, La Barrie’s mother Lisa Harrison (Burton) confirmed her son’s death on Instagram, writing, “My heart breaks right now, on my son’s 25th birthday … he was very drunk and got into a car with a drunk driver. No words can describe the sadness I feel in [losing] a child. It just feels so unreal and I’m overwhelmed with grief.

“I love you so much Corey and will miss you so so much. It’s just so unfair.”
Australian native La Barrie moved to LA and picked up hundreds of thousands of followers across his various social media accounts for his comedy routines. He was a contestant on the YouTube series, “The Reality House.”

The YouTube community was also rocked several weeks ago by the death of Steve Cash from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Cash’s own comedic videos — many of which focused on his cat Sylvester — amassed him over 2.4 million subscribers by the time of his death at 40.

Cardi B Reportedly Renegotiating Record Deal Ahead Of New Album!
The wait for Cardi B’s sophomore album continues.
According to a new report, the long-awaited project is being held up by contact negotiations. Insiders tell HITS Daily Double that the Grammy-winning rapper is in the midst of a “protracted renegotiation” with her label Atlantic Records, which has delayed the release of her next album.
It’s unclear what exactly is holding up the deal, but HITS says that it could be more than money involved.
Cardi has not released any solo music since her single “Press” in May 2019. She has often teased fans about the long-awaited follow-up to 2018’s record-breaking debut Invasion of Privacy.

Earlier this year, she shared a couple snippets of new music, including one Wheezy-produced track. In March, she said that her single was being put on hold due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“I can never put a date on it ’cause when you feel that you got those songs, that’s when it’s gonna come out,” she told Baller Alert in February. “I cannot put a date on my ears. When I feel like I have it, that’s when.”

American Horror Stories: “AHS” Spinoff Series Is Currently In The Works!
Ryan Murphy, co-creator of American Horror Story has announced through a social media post that anthology horror series will be adding a spinoff to their franchise, American Horror Stories.

In the official post, Murphy captioned:
“’American Horror Story’ cast zoom call…where we reminisced about the good times…the spin-off we’re doing called “American Horror Stories” (one hour contained episodes)…when we will start filming the next season of the mothership…and other stuff I cannot print. It was so much fun, and I’m glad we caught up. I miss everyone!”

Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, Hollywood production was forced to shut down in March. Although many states are now beginning their reopening phase, movie productions will likely continue to stay closed out of safety concerns for their entire staff.
American Horror Story premiered on the FX network on October 5, 2011. Since then, the show has aired 9 seasons and 103 episodes of the anthology horror series. The show garnished the label as FX’s most-watched original series.

In February, American Horror Story was renewed for three more seasons. The upcoming season 10 was expected to premiere in the fall of 2020. But, due to the coronavirus pandemic, the date could be pushed back.
In the meantime, co-creators Murphy and Brad Falchuk will be working on their franchisees’ companion series American Horror Stories. The anthology will allegedly feature individual ghost stories per episode.

Doja Cat & Nicki Minaj “Say So” (Remix) Hits #1 On The Billboard Hot 100!
Over the past week, female rap has been in a raging battle to dominate the Billboard Hot 100. Regardless of who won, the culture of female rap would forever be pushed forward from the energy that came from this week alone.

BeyoncΓ© surprised everyone by hopping on the remix to Megan Thee Stallion’s viral Tiktok hit, “Savage” which was quickly followed by Nicki jumping on Doja Cat’s “Say So” remix. As soon as both songs released, it was apparent from the start that a race for the number 1 spot had started. Now, we have the official numbers, with Doja Cat & Nicki Minaj officially taking the number one spot, with “Say So” jumping from the previous spot of #5.
The song would become not only Doja Cat’s first number one, but Nicki Minaj’s first number one on the Hot 100 in her entire career. “Say So” also marks the first time in history a collaboration between two female rappers is #1 on the Hot 100.

Megan Thee Stallion and BeyoncΓ© came in a close second with the “Savage” remix, which gives Bey her 19th top 10 hit as a solo artist. For Queen B, this also marks a milestone of having charted at least one song on the Hot 100 in each of the last 24 years (1997-2020). Both songs charting in the top two is the first time four black female artist have held the #1 & #2 sport respectively.

This day will go down as a milestone for female rap and, more specifically, black female artists, ending rumors they can’t “coexist” and that there “can’t be more than one”. This marks the first time in history that FOUR BLACK WOMEN have occupied the top two positions on the Hot 100.
Doesn’t seem promising, though…the rapper went live shortly after the news and told fans “I’m not showing you my titties!” while gleefully speaking on her history-making feat. Nicki Minaj, however, is still holding out hope…

Congrats Nicki and Doja!

Family of Kobe Bryant’s Pilot Blames The Passengers For The Crash!
The family of the pilot who was flying the helicopter that crashed and killed everyone on board, including Kobe Bryant and his daughter Gianna, is blaming the passengers for the crash.
The family of pilot Ara Zobayan, who also died in the crash, responded to Vanessa Bryant’s wrongful death lawsuit against the helicopter company Island Express and its pilot.

The Zobayan family said in court papers: “Any injuries or damages to plaintiffs and/or their decedent were directly caused in full or in part by the negligence or fault of plaintiffs and/or their decedent, including their knowing and voluntary encounter with the risks involved, and that this negligence was a substantial factor in causing their purported damages, for which this answering defendant bears no responsibility.”

The family’s response doesn’t make it clear how the passengers could have been negligent in this case.
It’s also not clear which family members responded to the lawsuit. The 50-year-old pilot left behind a longtime girlfriend and her two children who he treated like his own.

Vanessa filed the lawsuit in February, claiming the helicopter should have never taken off due to foggy conditions and that Zobayan failed to control the helicopter.

Ahmaud Arbery’s Legal Team Responds After New Footage Was Released Of Him Looking Inside an Unoccupied Home!
The legal representation for black murdered jogger Ahmaud Arbery has responded after The Atlanta Journal-Constitution released footage that appears to show Ahmaud wandering into the garage of a home under construction before walking around the back of the house.

“Ahmaud’s actions were in no way a felony,” His legal team said in a statement. “Our office has reviewed the surveillance video which appears to show a person, believed to be Ahmaud Arbery, entering a property under construction. The individual remains on the property for under 3 minutes before continuing to jog down the road. This video is consistent with the evidence already known to us. Ahmaud Arbery was out for a jog.”

In the footage, Ahmaud is not seen removing anything from the construction site, nor did he cause any damage to the property. Under Georgia law, the young man posed no threat nor broke any laws by going into the unoccupied property.
The statement went on to say, “This video confirms that Mr. Arbery’s murder was not justified, and the actions of the men who pursued him and ambushed him were unjustified. We reiterate, Ahmaud Arbery did not take part in ANY felony, had no illegal substances in his system, was not armed yet was shot three times with a shotgun at close range.”

The GBI is currently reviewing this surveillance footage, as well as other key pieces of evidence in an effort to piece together the events of that fateful February afternoon following the arrests of Ahmaud’s murderers, 64-year-Gregory McMichael and his 34-year-old son Travis McMichael.

“We are using video to put the timeline together to fill in the blanks of what happened that afternoon,” GBI’s Deputy Director of investigations, Scott Dutton, confirmed to The AJC.
In a statement on Saturday following AJC’s release of the video in an article online, the GBI said, “We are indeed reviewing additional video footage and photographs as part of the active case. It is important to note that this footage was reviewed at the beginning of the GBI investigation and before the arrests of Gregory and Travis McMichael.”

The security video also shows a man across the street in overalls, seemingly watching Ahmaud. That bystander is believed to have called 911 to report Ahmaud lurking around the home. A second neighbor, too, reported the incident to the police.
New footage from inside the home has also since been released, further proving that Arbery did not commit a crime, his family lawyer said. The owners of the unoccupied home has also since released a statement, saying they had nothing to do with the fatal shooting.

Read the full statement below.

English Family Statement:
First, and most important, the English family — the homeowners — want Ahmaud Arbery’s parents to know that they are very sorry for the loss of their son and they are praying for them.
Second, it is crucial to understand that the English family — the homeowners — were not part of what the McMichaels did. The first accounts suggested a link between the McMichaels and the homeowners, but there is none. The English family had no relationship with the McMichaels and did not even know what had occurred until after Mr. Arbery’s death was reported to them.

After seeing Mr. Arbery’s photo in news reports, Larry English did not even think Mr. Arbery was the person that appears in this video. Even if it had been, however, Mr. English would never have sought a vigilante response, much less one resulting in a tragic death.

TJ Maxx Reopens To Hordes Of Shoppers, Many Without Masks!
Shoppers largely appeared to disregard social distancing recommendations, go without facial coverings
TJ Maxx stores in different parts of the country have reopened their doors to crowds of hundreds, as some states begin loosening their novel coronavirus restrictions, photographs show.
Images posted to social media show the hordes of shoppers both inside the store and outside waiting to enter – often appearing to disregard social distancing recommendations.

A spokesperson did not immediately respond to FOX Business' request seeking comment.

Several Twitter users shared a photo that they said was taken inside a TJ Maxx in North Central Arkansas and showed crowds of customers – most without masks – waiting at the checkout line. The image was shared on May 9.
That same day, another user provided a different perspective, posting a photo of the outside of an Arkansas store, with shoppers standing within six feet of one another while waiting to enter. It was not immediately clear if the location was the same as the one where the other photo was taken.
Ernie Herrman, the CEO of TJX Companies, which owns TJ Maxx, Marshalls, and Home Goods, announced on March 19 the company would be temporarily closing all stores worldwide, as well as some online business.

Herrman released a memo on May 9 in which he described how the company has “been highly focused on making changes to help provide a healthier store environment going forward.”
“For our Associates, we are following newly established health protocols, including required use of face masks while working and implementing social distancing work practices,” Herrman said. “In our stores, we have installed protective shields at cash registers, added social distancing markers in our queue lines, implemented new processes for handling merchandise returns, and instituted new cleaning regimens, including enhanced cleaning of high-touch surfaces throughout the day.”
