The Daily Buzz For Apr 8 ☕πŸ“°☕

Chris Evans for Esquire US - April/May 2020!
Esquire’s April/May issue cover star, Chris Evans, has earned total freedom. In the cover story, “The Escape” by Mike Sager, he talks about how he’s trying to figure out what to do with it.
Here are some excerpts from the interview!

On his go-to karaoke song: “You can’t go wrong with Billy Joel.”

On shooting Defending Jacob in the Boston suburbs, where he grew up and still has a home: “It felt like I had a regular nine-to-five job. I’d sleep in my own bed; I’d see my family on weekends. A lot of times you have a bit of a nomadic lifestyle as an actor. You live out of suitcases and in cities you’re not familiar with. Doing Jacob made me feel like I was home but still doing what I love. It was incredibly comforting.”
On the rumors he’s in negotiations to play the sadistic dentist in the remake of the musical Little Shop of Horrors and whether that reflects a childhood love of musical theater: “As a kid, theater is what’s available to you, local plays. And it’s usually going to be a musical. But musicals aren’t the thing that I fell in love with. I just liked acting. I have a soft spot for theater, because it was such a big part of my childhood, a very sweet chapter in my life. But it’s not like I’ve always said, ‘Man, I got to get back to musical theater!’ My main reason for doing it was because I liked acting so much.”

On the reason he created A Starting Point, his new political web site: “The site is not an antidote. It’s not medicine. It’s not a cure. It’s not the solution. It’s just something I think is helpful. But one thing I’m really trying to stay away from is declaring, ‘This is what’s wrong with today.’”
On his close relationship with his father, G. Robert Evans III, and how he was named: “I was supposed to be G. Robert Evans IV. I would’ve been Bobby, but my mother was in love with the name Chris. So my dad gave it to her…I always wondered if I would have been a good Bobby. I’m glad I’m Chris. I would’ve been honored to have had that moniker, be in that lineage. But Chris is good, too.” Evans says he might not have “lasted in this business without my father’s pragmatism and his curiosity. I think my dad’s level head is the thing that makes getting up every day possible for me.”

On watching the final cut of Defending Jacob: “It was a little disconcerting. A lot of scenes where I’m doing certain things, like, for instance, my character’s morning routine in the kitchen—there was the tie, the cup of coffee, and I was like, ‘Wow, I am watching my dad. I’m old.’ It just happened.”
On his philosophy: “I don’t put myself in a box. I don’t have some huge plan in terms of what my goals are. I just kind of wake up and follow my appetite. I’m at a point in my life now where I have the very, very fortunate luxury of pursuing what I want to do. And I don’t corrupt that process by thinking about how other people see me.”

The April/May issue of Esquire will be available digitally and at retail outlets by April 14.

#RHOA: Porsha Williams Responds to Kenya Moore Calling Her Fake!
“Real Housewives of Atlanta” star Porsha Williams is in a much better place with Kenya Moore these days. Well, at least she was at the beginning of the current season. However, Kenya has expressed her disappointment with Porsha on social media. She told fans that it doesn’t seem as if Porsha defends her despite them working on a friendship.

And she also had some words for Porsha after she saw that Porsha and Tanya Sam told Cynthia Bailey that Kenya shading her wine expertise wasn’t fun shade.
Porsha addressed Kenya’s criticism recently on “Watch What Happens Live.” Porsha Williams and Kenya Moore decided to end their feud. And it’s motherhood that made them want to work on developing a friendship. But it hasn’t been smooth sailing. Kenya has aired out her complaints about Porsha on social media. She even said Porsha and Tanya Sam were fake to tell Cynthia Bailey that Kenya shading her about her wine knowledge was messed up.

When Andy Cohen asked Porsha how she feels about that on “Watch What Happens Live,” Porsha had some interesting things to say.
She said, “I enjoy Tanya. Why do my friendships have to be fake but yet her friendships are real? And, she shades her friend right there on the show for everybody to see?”
Porsha also said that she thinks it’s hypocritical for Kenya to say she doesn’t believe NeNe Leakes’ apology to Porsha is real because Kenya has done things to people she still hasn’t apologized for. And she wants Kenya to bring the receipts she claimed to have about Porsha dragging NeNe after they fell out.
Kenya addressed some criticism herself during the After Show. When a producer asked her if she’s ever crossed the line and taken things too far, she says she has not. And she’s never tried to destroy anyone’s world.

Braxton's release marks her new label deal with Island Records.
Toni Braxton is back with new music and a new home label. The singer-songwriter released "Do It," her first single since minting her new deal with Universal's Island Records.

On her latest Antonio Dixon-produced record, Braxton sings over a piano and violin-assisted melody, while offering encouraging advice of letting go of unhealthy or toxic love. "He ain’t gonna change, if you take him back/ it's gonna be the same, just do what you need to do,” she soothingly belts. In a press release, the seven-time Grammy Award-winning artist reveals how a friend inspired the song lyrics.

“I wrote this song about a year ago when a friend was going through the struggles of trying to end a relationship that wasn’t good for her," she explains. "We have all been through situations like this when there is really nothing more to say, you know he’s not right and you just need to do what you need to do. There is also an element of hope in the song, that after you do what you need to do things will get better.”

#CONGRATS! Jeezy And Jeannie Mai Are Engaged!
The couple is officially engaged after the rapper proposed to “The Real” host on March 27, PEOPLE confirms.
Jeezy, 42, was originally planning to propose to Mai, 41, sometime in April during a previously-scheduled trip to Vietnam. But their vacation was canceled after the coronavirus outbreak, so Jeezy decided to surprise her with a proposal at his home in Los Angeles. He went all out, bringing Vietnam to L.A. during their stay-at-home date night.
“Jeannie and Jay were set for a trip to Vietnam this April. What Jeannie didn’t know is that Jay was planning to propose,” Mai’s rep tells PEOPLE. “Instead, Jay decided to bring Vietnam to Jeannie with a surprise quarantine date night in his home filled with Vietnamese food and decor.”
The couple began dating in November 2018 after meeting on set of “The Real.” They went public with their relationship last August, when they stepped out arm-in-arm to the SnoBall Gala, a charity event benefitting Jeezy’s non-profit organization Street Dreamz.
“Getting to know him has been one of the most beautiful experiences of my life,” Mai said of Jeezy. “He’s introspective, he’s passionate, he’s incredibly deep, he’s a visionary, he’s a great leader, he’s an amazing servant to his community.”
Jeezy has remained coy about their relationship, but has posted photos of them coupled up on Instagram. “Life is amazing… She’s amazing too,” he told “Entertainment Tonight.”

This will be the first marriage for Jeezy, who was previously engaged to Mahi, the mother of his daughter, Amra Nor. Mai was married to Freddy Harteis for 10 years before filing for divorce in 2017.

Adele – Judge Rules $171 Million Divorce Settlement Will Be Sealed!
Adele’s divorce settlement won’t be made known to the public, a judge ruled earlier this week. The only thing known is that $171 million are at stake, according to Cosmopolitan, but because the documents will be sealed, it won’t be revealed where the money is going.

The 31-year-old “Hello” singer and charity exec Simon Konecki split this time last year after marrying in 2016. They were together for a total of eight years and share 7-year-old son Angelo.
While it was reported that they didn’t have a prenup, and that they’ll both have custody of Angelo, the other details of their legal split like “financial, sales or other confidential business information” will be kept secret, according to reports. And anyone who’s involved in it will reportedly be required to sign an NDA.

An insider said, “Hollywood divorces can drag on for years and become extremely ugly. Adele and Simon clearly don’t want that.”
“They are both committed to keeping the details as private as possible for the sake of their son. They are trying to work out their issues.”
It’s still not clear what caused their split, but speculation says that they were on different pages as Adele lived life in the spotlight and Simon Konecki had a quiet lifestyle in the U.K.
A source also said that fans will hear more about her personal life in her forthcoming album.

“She talks about last year as a very difficult year, and she’s said in the past that creating new music is almost like therapy. You can tell that she is ready to share with her fans.”
One thing she’s already shared with fans is her impressive weight loss, which she reportedly told a fan was around 100 pounds.

She’s already reportedly dating MC Skepta, whose  real name is Joseph Junior Adenuga Jr.
An insider said last fall, “Adele and Skepta have been there for each other a lot after both their relationships split up. They have a close bond and there’s definitely a special connection. They’re spending more and more time together. Some of their friends are hoping and predicting they could end up being a great couple one day.”

What are your thoughts on Adele keeping her divorce private?

John Legend Urges Church Goers To Stop Going to Church Service Amid Coronavirus Outbreak!
Grammy winner John Legend is urging fans to continue practicing their social distancing even if it means skipping a few weeks of church.
Over the weekend (April 4th), the ‘All of Me,’ singer took to his Twitter to discuss practicing religion during the global pandemic COVID-19 (Coronavirus), that has taken thousands of lives in a matter of weeks. John Legend responded to a follower who claims a pastor is advising their congregation to continue to worship as the ongoing virus is a,
“Test of your faith”
In response,, Legend says:

“Don’t let these pastors kill your auntie and grandparents.”
The singer says he can relate with wanting to continue worshiping and he also states he understands that the church needs their congregation to take care of the essentials of the building. Although, he double down by saying,

“BUT. DO. NOT. GO. TO. CHURCH.”

Common Is Quarantined With Her “Just Friend” Tiffany Haddish!
After the two had been seen out and about with one another at basketball games, at a paint and pour event and more. But Tiffany maintained that they were just friends, even after her good friend Ms. Tina Knowles-Lawson called them a “beautiful couple.”
Still, when she appeared on “The Real” afterward, Tiffany stuck to her story, saying that she and Common were friends but she would date him before shifting the conversation to the fact that Jeannie Mai was dating rapper Jeezy.

But some recent evidence seems to make it undeniably hard for Tiffany to stick to this “just friends” story.

Over the weekend, Cedric The Entertainer joined DJ Kid Capri for a Healing Through Laughter event with Def Comedy Jam. It was a COVID-19 relief fundraiser that ultimately featured some surprise guests, including his “The Last O.G.” costar Tiffany Haddish.
During their digital chat, Haddish revealed that she wasn’t in the house alone. She was joined by none other than Chicago-born rapper Common. Who appeared quite comfortable and cozy in the house. Cedric wished him well and Common thanked the comedian for keeping us laughing during times like these.

Once he got off the live, Tiffany popped back on camera, suggestively winking and sticking her tongue out.
As she walked down the hall, away from Common, Cedric said, “Tiff, that’s an exclusive.”
No surprise here as we could already tell that these two were a little too close just to be friends. And quarantine is for people you’re sure won’t work your very last nerve while y’all spend extended periods of time together.

But Tiffany told us a while ago that she’s no longer going to be an open book, sharing details about her personal life as openly as she’s done in the past. And perhaps she was speaking about relationships specifically.
We can’t blame her. But there’s no need to pretend at this point. We all see what it is.

Singer Duffy Opens Up About Her Abduction & Rape That Caused Her To Withdraw From The Spotlight; ‘I Do Not Know How I Had The Strength To Endure Those Days’!
Grammy award-winning singer Duffy, the pop star behind hits “Mercy,” “Well, Well, Well” and “Rain on Your Parade,” has opened up for the first time in a lengthy post on her website about her drugging, abduction, and rape in 2010, following the release of her album, “Endlessly.”
“It was my birthday; I was drugged at a restaurant, I was drugged then for four weeks and traveled to a foreign country. I can’t remember getting on the plane and came round in the back of a traveling vehicle,” she wrote. “I was put into a hotel room, and the perpetrator returned and raped me. I remember the pain and trying to stay conscious in the room after it happened. I was stuck with him for another day; he didn’t look at me, I was to walk behind him, I was somewhat conscious and withdrawn. I could have been disposed of by him.”

Duffy, whose full name is Aimee Duffy, revealed that while she wanted to escape, she feared her attacker since he had made a “veiled confession of wanting to kill me.” She also said that she feels that she was being protected during the ordeal.

“I do not know how I had the strength to endure those days. I did feel the presence of something that helped me stay alive.”
Eventually, the singer was able to escape her abductor. However, the damage lingered, forcing her to blame herself and become a recluse. Duffy said that she was at “high risk of suicide” and spent “almost 10 years completely alone,” even distancing herself from loved ones as she was “just not the same person for so long.” She cited her psychologist for helping her get through the painful aftermath.
The 35-year-old singer said that the rape had “stripped me of my human rights, to experience a life with autonomy from fear” and that it “has already stolen one-third of my life.”

Last month, the singer released her new single, “Something Beautiful,” just a few weeks after giving fans a brief insight into her traumatic ordeal in a rare Instagram post, where she assured followers that she would share the full story later.⠀⠀⠀⠀
Duffy wanted to provide an explanation as to why she suddenly disappeared from public view as well as give hope to those who have gone through similar situations.
“As dark as my story is, I do speak from my heart, for my life, and for the life of others, whom have suffered the same.”

Duffy’s debut album “Rockferry” went on to be the U.K.’s best-selling album of 2008. The album won three Brit Awards and a Grammy and contained the worldwide hit single “Mercy.”

Kennedy Family Members Presumed Dead After Canoe Accident But Maeve Kennedy Townsend McKean Has been Found!
Authorities found the body of Maeve Kennedy Townsend McKean on Monday, five days after her canoe apparently capsized in the Chesapeake Bay.
McKean, 40, the daughter of former Maryland Lt. Gov. Kathleen Kennedy Townsend and granddaughter of Robert F. Kennedy, went missing late Thursday afternoon along with her son 8-year-old son, Gideon. The pair went out into waters near the family's home in Shady Side, Maryland, about 25 miles south of Annapolis.

A preliminary investigation found that McKean and her son may have been paddling the canoe out into the bay to retrieve a ball and were unable to paddle back to shore.
Maryland Natural Resources Police said Monday that McKean's body was found in 25 feet of water about 2.5 miles south of her mother's residence, where the canoe had launched. Authorities used aviation and underwater imaging sonar technology to find her body.

The authorities said they would resume their search for Gideon on Tuesday.
David McKean wrote a long Facebook post Friday in tribute to his wife and young son, calling his wife "the brightest light" he had ever known.
"She was magical — with endless energy that she would put toward inventing games for our children, taking on another project at work or in our community, and spending time with our friends," he wrote.
He described Gideon as a child who had deep passions and spent hours reading, learning about sports and "trying to decipher the mysteries of the stock market."

"But he was also incredibly social, athletic, and courageous," McKean wrote. "And he was brave, leading his friends in games, standing up to people who he thought were wrong (including his parents), and relishing opportunities to go on adventures with friends, even those he'd just met."

Spike Lee goes after Bill Cosby for allegedly stealing ‘School Daze’ concept!
Spike Lee took a moment to go after Bill Cosby. Over the past weekend, Lee’s 1988 film School Daze began trending on social media after it premiered on Netflix. The movie became a trending topic after its premiere.
Lee took a moment to share a few little-known facts about the film on his Twitter page. One major claim was that the concept behind School Daze, which was a look at HBCU life, was stolen by producers of  “A Different World,” a spin-off of “The Cosby Show” about a fictional historically Black college campus.

Lee tweeted that School Daze was completed before “A Different World” premiered in 1987.
“And For Record, SCHOOL DAZE Was Shot Before DIFFERENT WORLD,” Lee tweeted. “Robbi Reed Cast Both. Bill Cosby Jacked Us. (sic)”
Cosby served as the executive producer of ”A Different World,” which premiered in September 1987, and School Daze hit theaters in February 1988.

Both projects featured actors Laurence Fishburne, Bill Nunn, Tisha Campbell, and Robbie Reed.
School Daze and “A Different World” became cult classics as the first film and TV project, respectively, to provide an inside look at HBCU schools and culture. They also served as inspiration for thousands of Black students who would go on to attend and graduate from an HBCU.

But while Lee appears to have beef with Cosby over the concept, both men came together when Cosby helped to fund 1992’s Malcolm X.

Former Destiny's Child Member Farrah Franklin Suggests Mathew Knowles Was Inappropriate With Her While In Group!
Farrah Franklin was only a member of Destiny’s Child for a short while, but she’ll never forget the experiences she had during her time in the group.

In a recently unearthed clip, Franklin recalled one particular incident where their manager Mathew Knowles (aka BeyoncΓ©’s dad) allegedly invited her to a hotel room to “meet and speak with him.” When asked whether Knowles had tried to make a move, Franklin hesitated before suggesting he did.
The video is from a television pilot about former girl group members that never made it on air. It leaked on April 3 when someone who claims they used to work in TV shared it on Twitter and other social media platforms. The video opens with Franklin in a confessional, talking about her time in Destiny’s Child.

Fans will recall that her career with the group began in late 1999 when she booked a job as an extra in the “Bills, Bills, Bills” video. She earned an official spot in the group along with Michelle Williams after LeToya Luckett and LaTavia Roberson exited, going on to appear in videos for “Say My Name” and “Jumpin, Jumpin” and contributing to records.

Franklin said in the clip that the alleged incident with Mathews happened at some point during all of this. At the time, he was with BeyoncΓ©’s mother, Tina Knowles, whom he married in 1980.
The two would separate in 2009 after it emerged that Knowles had allegedly had a baby with another woman and officially divorced in 2011. They are now each remarried.

Reports Show African-Americans Are More Likely To Die From COVID-19; Democrats Demand Equal Testing For All Communities!
Data from COVID-19 cases show that African Americans are more likely to be affected by the coronavirus. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Democratic Senators Elizabeth Warren, Cory Booker, and Kamala Harris called on the United States Department of Health and Human Services to expand testing throughout minority communities.
The CDC has not officially separated coronavirus cases by race. Still, there is local data from Milwaukee, Illinois, and Wisconsin that backs the senators’ argument for the CDC to address the racial differences in the health care system when it comes to coronavirus cases.

The demographics in Illinois is 60% white and 14% black, but 30% of the state’s 10,360 confirmed cases are African-American, while Caucasians make up 29%.
African-American Americans in Michigan make up 34% of confirmed coronavirus cases and 40% of coronavirus related deaths. Again, only 14% of the Michigan population is African-American.
Milwaukee coronavirus cases have plagued African-American men. Milwaukee made a serious jump from one confirmed case to 40 confirmed cases within a week. The following week that number jumped to 350 confirmed COVID-19 cases.

Congressional Democrats wrote a statement to Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar March 27, stating,” How persistent inequities may exacerbate these disparities in the weeks and months to come as our nation responds to this global health pandemic. The CDC is currently failing to collect and publicly report on the racial and ethnic demographic information of patients tested for and affected by COVID-19.” The letter continues, saying.” Our concerns echo those from some physicians that decisions to test individuals for the novel coronavirus may be more vulnerable to the implicit biases that every patient and medical professional carry around with them, potentially causing black communities and other underserved groups to disproportionately miss out on getting tested for COVID-19. Although COVID-19 does not discriminate along racial or ethnic lines, existing racial disparities and inequities in health outcomes and health care access may mean that the nation’s response to preventing and mitigating its harms will not be felt equally in every community.”

Experts in healthcare believe that social-economic factors and the lack of trust and access to proper healthcare make African-Americans more likely to be exposed and die from the virus.

History has shown that African-Americans suffer more from asthma, diabetes, and maternal death than any other ethnic background. To make matters worse, the CDC recognizes respiratory illnesses, diabetes, and pregnancy as underlying health issues that increase the chances of being exposed to the coronavirus.
ProPublica noted that in cities like Detroit, where the majority population is African-American, are now considered a hotspot. Trump has also declared Louisiana as a hotspot, where 40% of the state’s deaths of COVID-19 have been African-American.

Dr. Camara Jones, a family physician, epidemiologist, told ProPublica,” The coronavirus is unmasking the deep disinvestment in our communities, the historical injustices and the impact of residential segregation.”
Jones has spent 13 years at the CDC, identifying, measuring, and addressing racial bias within the United States medical system. The CDC declined to comment when asked if they were keeping a record during the pandemic.
” This is the time to name racism as the cause of all of those things. The overrepresentation of people of color in poverty and white people in wealth is because we’re not valued,” Jones said.

Statistics from Milwaukee county show 1,122 confirmed cases with 34 deaths. The city’s resident population is 39% African-American, with the county being 26% African-American.
Eleven residents who’ve died had diabetes, 8 had hypertension, and 15 had other chronic health conditions, such as heart and lung disease.
” It will be unimaginable pretty soon,” Infectious disease physician and associate dean at Howard University College of Medicine, Dr. Celia J. Maxwell, told ProPublica.” Any virus that comes around is going to be worse in our patients. Many of our patients have so many problems, but this is kind of like the nail in the coffin.”
In Milwaukee, the average life expectancy for African-Americans is 14 years shorter than Caucasians.
Coronavirus cases across the U.S and the globe have mainly focused on the age of the victims. Still, in Milwaukee, where various ages have been exposed to the virus, half of the cases are African-American.
The main reason Milwaukee has been urging that race is a factor in the coronavirus pandemic, is because the city has” declared racism as a public health issue.”
Milwaukee Health Commissioner Jeanette Kowalik told ProPublica,” It frames not only how we do our work but how transparent we are about how things are going. It impacts how we manage an outbreak. What black folks are accustomed to in Milwaukee and anywhere in the country, really, is pain. Not being acknowledged and constant inequities that happen in health care delivery.”

To further show disappropriation, a ProPublica report used the example of a 25-year-old woman who was forced to leave a hospital because she couldn’t get immediate treatment for chest pains. She died shortly after.
The President of the Milwaukee NAACP, Fred Royal, said he knew three people who had died from coronavirus and one was his 38-year-old cousin who was told to self-medicate.
Royal said it was” alarming” that people were being told to go home and self-medicate during a pandemic, only to die.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
American Journal of Emergency Medicine in 2019 found that African-Americans were less likely than Caucasians to receive proper medication for acute pain because African-Americans are perceived to have a higher pain threshold. Plus, African-American are viewed to have less than adequate healthcare insurance.

African-Americans are more likely to be exposed to the virus due to other factors that make social distancing an issue. African-Americans are more likely to work a job that doesn’t allow them to work remotely.
African-Americans in Milwaukee County earn 50% less than Caucasians. ProPublica also reported that African Americans are also more likely to use public transportation, especially in New York, despite the city being the epicenter of the pandemic.
The congressional letter continued to state that many low-income residents have a chronic illness that the CDC and U.S health officials identified as underlying risk factors that increases the chances of death from COVID-19.

” For example, Black and Hispanic adults are more likely to suffer from obesity and diabetes than white people. Black people and immigrants lack insurance, and many minority communities see shortages of quality health care providers, making it difficult to access appropriate and timely care,” Congressional Democrats wrote.
” Furthermore, a history of discrimination and marginalization has left some people of color distrustful of the medical system, making them less likely to seek out timely care.” It also states that people of color have fewer financial resources to use in the event of a health crisis or economic downturn.

The letter to the U.S Department of Health and Human Services also warned of a devastating blow the CDC’s ‘subjective criteria’ for testing will have.
Linda Martinez, a Boston University community health researcher at Boston University, agreed that testing areas need a closer look.
” When COVID-19 pandemic is over, and we assessed the losses, it will be deeply tied to the story of post-World War II policies that left communities marginalized,” Martinez told ProPublica.” Its impact is going to be tied to our history and legacy of racial inequities. It’s going to be tied to the fact that we live in two very different worlds.”

A representative for Government Alliance on Race and Equity, Gordon Francis Goodwin, added,” This is a matter of taking a look at how our history kept people from actually being fully included.”
