The Daily Buzz For March 12 ☕πŸ“°☕

Salma Hayek for Town and Country - April 2019
“The Hummingbird Project” star Salma Hayek covers the April 2019 issue of Town & Country magazine photographed by Victor Demarchelier and styled by Miranda Almond.

On her character in this month’s thriller The Hummingbird Project (in theaters March 15): “They’re rare. And if you’re Mexican they’re practically nonexistent.”

On the joys and struggles of Instagram: “Funnily enough, I have 8.6 million followers…doing it on my own! I remember my first Boomerang. I did it, but it was without my head, and I got so frustrated I just posted it. I said, ‘Sorry, guys. I tried but I really can’t get it.’”

On her husband FranΓ§ois-Henri Pinault and what she keeps private: “[Pinault] is the best husband in the world. I get to be who I am with him, and I don’t feel that somebody tries to limit me. I’m not going to tell you [how we met]. It’s such a romantic, amazing story, but it is mine. I don’t want to vulgarize it by making it into a story to make myself interesting.”

On those who were surprised when she married Pinault: “A lot of people are very shocked that I married who I married. And some people are even intimidated now by me. But it’s another way of showing racism. They can’t believe this Mexican ended up in the life that she has, and they’re uncomfortable around me.”

On Harvey Weinstein’s discrediting her story following her 2017 New York Times article: “There is a theory that women of color are easy to discredit.”

On becoming a mother at age 41: “I think I’m a better mother because I had her [Valentina] later. But I do get tired, I’m not going to lie.”

On plastic surgery: “I haven’t done an-y-thing.”

#Empire: What to expect for The Mid-Season Return Of 'Empire'?
After the unexpected season we jus had with the Jussie Smollet drama lets focus on the next season shall we? Empire has been off air for two and a half months, so it’s quite possible that you forgot a thing or two about the plotlines for Season 5 of the popular Fox series. Not to fear, here are your Cliff notes.

The mid-season finale aired in early December 2018, and there, we learned that Lucious Lyon fathered a child that he either doesn’t remember or doesn’t want to acknowledge. That child is the new co-CEO of Empire Records and the same guy who led to the Lyon family’s removal from leadership of the company.  We also learned that this forlorn son - Jeff Kingsley - is so sad and mad about not knowing his father that he is prepared to destroy the “family.” Meanwhile, someone is dead and in a coffin and we don’t know who it is. Or do we?

We will certainly find out more when "My Fault is Past" airs on March 13.

#MusicNews: This Spring Aretha Franklin’s ‘Amazing Grace’ Documentary Will Debut in Select Theaters!
Aretha Franklin‘s long-shelved Amazing Grace documentary will finally be unwrapped this year. Following its debut at the DOC NYC festival last November, the 1972 gospel concert is heading to the silver screen this spring.
According to reports, Neon and Time will screen the concert documentary in select New York and Los Angeles cinemas on April 5, before expanding it to theaters across the country later this year.

The film-turned-album captures the live recording of Franklin’s two-night church event at New Temple Missionary Baptist Church in Los Angeles. The picture was originally scheduled to be released along with Franklin’s album of the same title but there were technical issues, along with legal battles, that halted its release.

“Amazing Grace is a powerful film that captures the talent and spirit of Aretha Franklin,” said Time editor in chief and CEO Edward Felsenthal. “We are thrilled to be involved in this project as we continue to build and expand TIME’s focus on longform films.”
Tickets for the Amazing Grace will be available on the premiere date. Additional information is available on the documentary’s official website.

Prior to the theatrical release, the album will be released as on vinyl. Scheduled to hit shelves on March 22, Franklin’s best-selling record to date will include four, 180-gram LPs that includes performances of “Precious Memories, “What A Friend We Have in Jesus,” “How I Got Over,” and many more church standards.

#HipHopNews: Nipsey Hussle will make a new project With Meek Mill
LOS ANGELES, CA – Nipsey Hussle recently sat down for an interview with Real 92.3 in Los Angeles where he revealed he was working on an album with Meek Mill. Meek mentioned he wanted to work with Nipsey last December and it sounds like the idea is coming to fruition.

“We’ve been cutting ideas and just getting in,” Nipsey says at the 8:14-minute mark. “We got a couple records that’s gon’ go off for the summer.
“It’s not hard at all. We just gotta lock in and get the records done … We would like to come summer time if we gon’ do it. We just gotta lock in.”
Meek dropped his Championships album in November 2018 while Nipsey’s debut studio effort, Victory Lap, arrived last February.
Victory Lap earned the Compton rapper his first Grammy nomination in the Best Rap Album category. He ultimately lost to Cardi B whose Invasion Of Privacy project wound up with the gilded trophy.

Elsewhere in the interview, Nipsey talks about the Grammys, his real estate ventures, relationship with Diddy and almost signing with Maybach Music Group.

Ariana Grande Heads to Dinner With Ex-Boyfriend Graham Phillips
Ariana Grande was spotted having a night out with another ex. This time heading to a romantic dinner with actor Graham Phillips. Keeping some distance between them, the two looked happy to reunite on Sunday as they headed into the Italian restaurant Carbone in New York City.

Grande met the “Riverdale” star on the set of their Broadway show, “13.” They dated for three years before breaking up in 2011.
This is the third ex-boyfriend Ariana Grande has been seen with since breaking off her engagement to Pete Davidson.
Grande was seen enjoying a day with her former backup dancer, Ricky Alvarez, back in December. He’s one of the four exes she names in her “thank u, next” song.

But fans really lost it when she was spotted out with Big Sean just a few weeks ago. They were together in 2014 for a year.

HUH? Roseanne Barr Blames Michelle Obama for Getting Her Fired from ABC Reboot Show!
After a year of mulling over the controversial tweet that got her fired, Roseanne feels it's all Michelle's fault.
Roseanne Barr is adamant that former First Lady Michelle Obama is to blame for her fall from grace.
Last year, Roseanne made a racist joke on Twitter about former White House adviser Valerie Jarrett, referencing the Muslim Brotherhood and the "Planet of the Apes." The backlash was instant and relentless.

Despite the reboot's stellar ratings and an eventual apology from its titular star, ABC cancelled "Roseanne." Now, after a year of mulling it over, the comedian feels it's all Michelle's fault.
"[Michelle] said, 'This tweet is unforgivable,'" Roseanne told Britain's The Sunday Times magazine. "That's what I was told, and I tend to believe it, because the woman who fired me is now working with the Obamas at Netflix."

While she didn't name any names, Roseanne was likely referring to Channing Dungey, the former ABC Entertainment Group president responsible for giving "Roseanne" the boot. In November of last year, Netflix hired Channing as vice president of original programming, including content for the Obamas' label, Higher Ground Productions.

The 66-year-old comedian also feels anti-Semitic attitudes prompted her termination. "They wanted to take a Jew down," she told the Times. "They wanted to take down a Zionist because they think that Zionists are the problem with everything in the world, and a lot of people in this country think like them."
Roseanne also accused ABC of taking issue with her support of president Donald Trump, telling the mag, "They hate powerful women. And they hate powerful, deplorable women. And I do consider myself deplorable."

"Deplorable is the greatest thing Hillary [Clinton] ever called us because it empowered a revolution: We are deplorable to her kind," she continued. "Of course, all working-class people are deplorable to her because it was working-class people that elected Trump."
But Roseanne's outrage didn't end there. She's also peeved that ABC is still using her cast and crew from "Roseanne" for the show's spin-off, "The Conners." She initially gave the network her blessing, telling press at the time, "I regret the circumstances that have caused me to be removed from 'Roseanne.' I agreed to the settlement in order that 200 jobs of beloved cast and crew could be saved, and I wish the best for everyone involved."

But the comedian drastically changed her tone when discussing the matter on Sunday.

"They think because they killed me, it's okay to use me, use the memory of me, still mention me?" she fumed. "It's still my show, but they stole it. They are going to do it to other comics. I'm just the first."

Jose Canseco accuses Alex Rodriguez of cheating on Jennifer Lopez, challenges him to fight
Jose Canseco accuses Alex Rodriguez of cheating on Jennifer Lopez, challenges him to fight
Jose Canseco took a swing at Alex Rodriguez on Twitter after the former New York Yankees third baseman announced his engagement to Jennifer Lopez. Canseco accused A-Rod of cheating on J.Lo with his ex-wife.

Slugger-turned-steroid snitch Jose Canseco took a swing at Alex Rodriguez on Sunday night after the former New York Yankees third baseman announced his engagement to Jennifer Lopez.
Canseco, 54, accused Rodriguez of cheating on Lopez with Canseco's ex-wife, Jessica Canse
co, to whom he was married from 1996 to 1999
“Watching World of Dance watching J.Lo text Alex Rodriguez little does she know that he is cheating on her with my ex-wife Jessica poor girl she has no idea who he really is,” Canseco tweeted.
He then claimed he was with his ex-wife a few months ago when Rodriguez called her on the phone.

“Alex Rodriguez stop being a piece of s--t stop cheating on Jennifer Lopez,” Canseco tweeted before challenging Rodriguez to an MMA fight.
Finally, Canseco offered to take a polygraph test to prove that he’s not lying about the allegations.
Canseco famously mentioned Rodriguez in his book “Vindicated” – a sequel to his jaw-dropping book “Juiced – claiming he introduced Rodriguez to a steroids distributor and that Rodriguez slept with his wife at the time.

Rodriguez didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment by Fox News.
The remarks came a day after Rodriguez and Lopez announced their engagement. The pair celebrated their two-year anniversary Feb. 4.

BeyoncΓ© and Jay-Z To Be Honored at 30th Annual GLAAD Media Awards
Beyonce and Jay-Z are set to be honored at the 30th Annual GLAAD Media Awards for their continual support and acceptance of the LGBTQ community.

“Beyonce and Jay-Z are global icons and passionate defenders of human rights and acceptance for all people,” GLAAD President and CEO Sarah Kate Ellis said in a statement,  announcing the presentation of The Vanguard Award, which is often bestowed upon allies who have made a significant impact in promoting acceptance of the community.
“When Beyonce and Jay-Z speak, the world becomes inspired and when it comes to LGBTQ people, their voices of acceptance have been heard loud and clear. We could not be prouder to stand with them to send a message of love during the biggest LGBTQ event in the world and to honor their work to bend the arc of justice forward for LGBTQ people, people of color, and marginalized communities everywhere.”

While Beyonce has collaborated with LGBTQ artists like Big Freedia and Frank Ocean and extended opportunities to transgender actress Laverne Cox, Jay-Z’s advocacy stemmed from a personal place after his mother opened up about her sexuality on his “4:44” track, “Smile.”
In fact, last year, the rapper received a GLAAD Special Recognition Award for the song and video, and according to Deadline, also featured transgender rights activist, Janet Mock, in his video, “Family Feud,” which opened with a quote by James Baldwin.

The show is set to kick off in L.A. on the 28th, with a New York City Ceremony in May.

#SPORTSNEWS: DeSean Jackson is headed back to The Philadelphia Eagles
DeSean Jackson is headed back to Philadelphia.

Hours after the wide receiver said goodbye to Tampa Bay in a cryptic Instagram post, NFL Media reported the Buccaneers had worked out a trade to send Jackson to the Eagles.
Jackson, 32, was a second-round draft pick by Philadelphia in 2008 and spent his first six NFL seasons there before moving on to Washington in 2014 and then Tampa Bay in 2017.
As Jackson put it in his Instagram post, things "didn't work out" with the Bucs, but he didn't have to wait long for a change of scenery.

Oh My? Brandy Falls and Recovers During Concert in Miami!
Singer/actress Brandy performed an almost perfect tribute to her idol/collaborator Whitney Houston last night (3/10/2019) in Miami Garden, Florida. She was belting out “I’m Your Baby Tonight” and walking down a set of stairs at the Hard Rock Stadium when she took a tumble that knocked the shoes off her feet!

But that didn’t stop Brandy’s show! She bent down, put her shoes back on, and came right back in on beat like the veteran performer she is.

K-Pop star Seungri quits showbiz amid sex scandal
K-Pop star Seungri, a member of the South Korean boy band Big Bang, has found himself in the hot seat again as he faces official charges of “supplying prostitutes” through his Seoul club, Burning Sun. Though he denies all charges, the 28-year-old musician says he has decided to retire from show business in order to protect the reputation of the band and their backing entertainment agency, YG Entertainment.

“At this point, I think it would be best if I retire from the entertainment industry,” the singer announced in a statement on Instagram, where he also mentioned that he would be “investigated diligently.” The decision to step away came after police raided the club Sunday night. If convicted, Seungri could incur a three-year jail sentence. “We booked Seungri and changed his status to that of a suspect in order to issue a search and seizure warrant and clear [Seungri] of the suspicions,” a police spokesman said during a recent press conference.

These latest events are the culmination of an ongoing investigation into the club, which began late January after a video of an assault taking place on the property circulated online. Since then, the police have alleged that staff supplied drugs to patrons and bribed VIP investors with sex workers. A series of text messages confirming as much were also released in February, which appear to show Seungri conversing with three other people about the potential bribery. This doesn’t exactly do the pop star any favors.

The remaining Big Bang members are currently completing their mandatory military service, which Seungri was due to begin in two weeks. Clearly, this might shift some things.

Kevin Hart To Release New Stand Up Special On Netflix
Just months after Kevin Hart teamed up with Netflix for a family-friendly black history month lesson, the “Grown Little Man” is extending his business relationship with the streaming giant for the release of his new stand up special, “Kevin Hart: Irresponsible.”
“Mark your calendars damn it,” Hart wrote in his Instagram announcement. “My Comedy special will be dropping on April 2nd on Netflix. I can’t wait…Let’s go.”

Following the blueprint of his theatrical releases, the hour-long special will be Hart’s first original stand up special for the streaming service.

“Hart touches upon his friends, family, travel…and a year filled with Irresponsible behavior,” according to the special’s press release. In fact, the special follows a series of unfortunate events Hart faced over the last year, including his cheating scandal, extortion scandal, and all the drama in between.

However, it remains unclear if the special will touch on the Academy Awards controversy, in which Hart was scheduled to host but stepped down after backlash over his old homophobic tweets. In the meantime, Hart joins a long list of comedians, who’ve taken their talents to the streaming giant, including Dave Chappelle, Chris Rock, Amy Schumer, and Ellen DeGeneres.
