‘#Empire’ Co-Creator Lee Daniels Sued for $5 Million by Damon Dash
Lee Daniels, co-creator of the Fox dramas “Empire” and “Star,” was hit with a $5 million lawsuit by Roc-A-Fella Records co-founder Damon Dash, The New York Daily News reports.
Dash “claims that Lee Daniels never intended to give him a co-executive producing credit for a planned Richard Pryor biopic, despite agreeing to do so,” the story reports, adding that Dash “says he was scammed out of a credit and the 5% of backend profits that he was promised before Daniels ditched the project.”
“Dash said he was never informed of the movie’s progress and Daniels never ‘made any commercially reasonable efforts to obtain the EP consideration,’ according to the lawsuit,” The Daily News reports.
Dash discussed the suit in an Instagram post, writing: “I straight up loaned this dude Lee Daniels @theoriginalbigdaddy 2 million to pay for his dream of being a director…it was the money I was using to fund my movies and stay Indy…he promised I get my money back in months…then he makes precious and goes missing so he doesn’t have to pay me…then then Butler…empire…same shit Why does this dude feel like he doesn’t have to pay me?…why do I have to look crazy to get my money back…or go to court…ask @theoriginalbigdaddy why he doesn’t feel like he has to pay me even though he has it…what type of shit is this.. #paywhatyouowe I’m going to put this whole thing on my ig tv in a few… true definition of a culture vulture @culturevultures_book …eats off the culture but Robs the culture at the same time… see you back in court Lee your gonna pay me what you owe…please everyone ask him way he doesn’t think he has to pay me… @tmz_tv @vanlathan @theshaderoom @deadline @worldstar @voguemagazine @people @pagesix @oprah @halleberry”
The Daily News also notes: “Dash previously sued Daniels for $25 million in 2014, claiming that he had loaned the producer $2 million for rights to certain projects, including ‘Precious,’ ‘Butler’ and ‘Empire,’ but never saw a dime back or the ownership rights.

Oh My! Mel B Accused of ‘Soliciting’ Friend to bring ‘Harm’ Stephen Belafonte!
A friend of Mel B and Stephen Belafonte‘s claims the former Spice Girl repeatedly told him she “would be better off” if Belafonte were dead … and the guy got the feeling she wanted him to help her do it.
According to court documents obtained by The Blast, Derek Craig Daniel filed a declaration as part of the ongoing legal battle between Mel B and Stephen.
Daniel claims he bumped into Mel B on February 28, 2018 at a restaurant in Los Angeles. He says he went up to Mel B to strike a conversation and says she began to tell him “what a terrible person Stephen was.”
He explains, “She repeatedly told me that everyone including her would be better off if Stephen was in jail or dead. I specifically recall Melanie repeatedly stating that she would be better off if Stephen were dead.”
But Daniel believes he words carried a sinister meaning: “I found the statements to be alarming and it was obvious to me that Melanie was soliciting me to either harm or find someone to help her harm Stephen.”
Daniel claims he ran into Stephen only a few weeks ago and relayed the conversation to him.
The filing comes as Stephen is asking the court to order Mel B to fork over a million dollars for legal and accounting fees. He is also seeking an increase is spousal support.
Sam Smith and Brandon Flynn Call It Quits After Nine Months of DatingL (Report)
Sam Smith and Brandon Flynn have split after nine months of dating, The Sun reports.
The “Too Good at Goodbyes” singer, 26, deleted all of the photos of the 24-year-old 13 Reasons Why star on his Instagram. Smith has also shared cryptic messages on his Instagram Story on Tuesday, June 26, including a photo that read “Love” and a screenshot of Clean Bandit and Julia Michaels‘ song “I Miss You.”
Flynn, on the other hand, still has photos of Smith on his Instagram, including his sweet birthday shoutout from last month.
“He’s in a different time zone and it’s hit his birthday! Just finishing his European leg of his tour, at 26 he’s accomplished so much. He’s an angel!” the actor captioned a photo of Smith on May 18. “He makes me so f—king happy and I hope everyone goes and shares all the birthday love, it ain’t easy getting old but he’s doing it with grace 😆 thank you for everything, Samuel! Happy 26, here’s to another amazing year of life!”
Smith and Flynn were first spotted together in October 2017, kissing in New York City. The two also attended the 2018 Grammy Awards together in January.
Earlier that month, Smith gushed about their relationship during an interview in V Magazine. “I’m in a relationship right now and for the first time, I think I deserve to be happy,” he said on January 3. “I’m actually asking myself if I’m going to be writing some happy love songs soon.”
At his concert in Brooklyn, New York on Wednesday (June 27), the 26-year-old singer spoke to the crowd.

Dr. Dre’s Beats Headphones Owes Ex-Partner $25.2M
LOS ANGELES (AP) — A jury has found that Dr. Dre, music mogul Jimmy Iovine and their headphone company Beats Electronics owe a former partner $25.2 million in royalties.
The Los Angeles Superior Court jury found Wednesday by a narrow 9-3 margin that Beats breached a contract with Steven Lamar and his company Jibe Audio.
The suit said Lamar in 2006 came to Dr. Dre, whose real name is Andre Young, with the idea for celebrity-endorsed headphones. The plaintiffs contended Lamar was owed over $130 million for a dozen different models of headphones, but the jury found he was only owed for three pairs in the Studio series.
The defendants acknowledged that Lamar was involved in initial plans, but argued he was only owed for one model of headphones and was already paid.
Beats is now owned by Apple Music. Apple representatives did not immediately respond to an email seeking comment.
Jackson Family Pays Tribute to Joe Jackson On Social Media
Joe Jackson is being remembered by his children and grandchildren on social media. The 89-year-old Jackson family patriarch lost his battle with pancreatic cancer on Wednesday.
Joe’s loved ones took to social media to pay tribute to him, including his daughter LaToya Jackson, 62, who remembered her father on Twitter.com.
“I will always love you!” she tweeted.
“You gave us strength, you made us one of the most famous families in the world. I am extremely appreciative of that, I will never forget our moments together and how you told me how much you cared. #RIP Joe Jackson”.
Grandson Stephen Randall Jackson Jr, son of Randy Jackson, 56, shared an old photo of Joe posing beside a framed platinum plaque for Michael Jackson’s classic 1979 album Off the Wall. He captioned the image, “RIP to the king that made everything possible!!! I love you grandpa.”
Meanwhile, Tito Jackson’s son Taj Jackson, 44, clapped back at Twitter trolls, who criticized Joe for beating his children with belts and tree branches when they were young.
“Disgusted by some of the comments I’m reading about my grandpa Joe by those who didn’t even know him,” Taj fired back. “Please don’t just regurgitate what you were spoon fed by the press. Joe was loved by our ENTIRE family and our hearts are in pain. Let us grieve without the nastiness.”
Joe was also remembered by the co-executors of Michael Jackson’s estate, John McClain and John Branca.
“We are deeply saddened by Mr. Jackson’s passing and extend our heartfelt condolences to Mrs. Katherine Jackson (Joe’s estranged wife) and the family,” reads a statement issued to Us Weekly by a representative for the pair.
“Joe was a strong man who acknowledged his own imperfections and heroically delivered his sons and daughters from the steel mills of Gary, Indiana, to worldwide pop superstardom… We had developed a warm relationship with Joe in recent years and will miss him tremendously.”
Joe and Katherine were estranged and lived apart for many years. She lives in Calabasas, Calif., while he resided in Nevada.
Joe’s estranged relationship with son Michael resulted in him being completely left out of the King of Pop’s will after his 2009 death. His mother Katherine Jackson continues to receive more than $1 million annually from the Michael Jackson estate.

Ed Sheeran has been slapped with a $100 million lawsuit accusing him of ripping off the Marvin Gaye song “Let’s Get it On.”

The lawsuit, filed last week in 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in New York, claims Sheeran’s song “Thinking Out Loud” has the “same melody, rhythms, harmonies, drums, bassline, backing chorus, tempo, syncopation and looping” as Gaye’s classic hit, TMZ reported on Thursday. The copyright infringement claim was filed by Structured Asset Sales, which owns a piece of the copyright.
Police Identify 2nd Suspect in XXXTentacion Murder
The Broward County Sheriff’s office announced a 2nd suspect in the June 18 shooting death of rapper XXXTentacion. An arrest warrant has been issued for 22-year-old Robert Allen, of Pompano Beach.
Allen is one of two men who stalked XXXTentacion inside the RIVA Motorsports dealership. One of the men purchased a black mask inside the store before leaving and shooting X multiple times in the parking lot.
Police released a still image of the portly suspect inside the store. Another suspect, Dedrick Williams, 22, was arrested on June 20 and is being held without bond.
The arrest warrant stated Williams was seen in the store and in the parking lot wearing distinctive orange sandals. He was with a “heavy set black male in a dark-colored t-shirt.”
Allen is listed as 5-foot-8 and weighs at least 310 pounds, according to the Department of Corrections website. He is currently on probation after serving time for 21 counts of fraudulent use of identification. He is currently on probation until Sept. 15, 2021.
An open casket fan memorial was held for the slain rapper on Wednesday, June 27 inside a Florida hockey rink. The memorial continues at BB&T Center in Sunrise until 6 p.m. Wednesday.

‘Queer Eye’ star Karamo Brown is open to having a TV wedding
The “Queer Eye” star said he’s open to having cameras capture the ceremony.
“Yes, I would definitely let the ‘Queer Eye,’ I mean cameras, follow me for my marriage … Or someone else,” Brown, 37, said on Sunday’s episode of “Watch What Happens Live.”
Brown is no stranger to cameras in his private life. He famously got his start on MTV’s “The Real World: Philadelphia” in 2004.
“I’ve been on reality TV since I was 23,” he said. “So it’s fine. I would do whatever. I’m open. My life is an open book. There is nothing to hide here.”
Brown proposed to Jordan in early May during a surprise birthday party for Jordan in Los Angeles.
Although the pair have yet to share a date or any other concrete plans, who would plan Brown’s bachelor party? The TV vet would only pick his “Queer Eye” co-star Bobby Berk.
“Because he is the only one who can hang with me until 6 o’clock in the morning and get up for working,” Brown explained. “Drinking and having a good time. But also he’s so organized and anal that I know every detail is going to be perfect.”

A suspect is in custody at a Maryland newspaper’s office building.
Police officers respond to an active shooter at the Capital Gazette building in Annapolis, Maryland.
Authorities are responding to a shooting in an office building of the Capital Gazette in Annapolis, Maryland, on Thursday.
Shots were fired inside the building, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives confirmed in a tweet. Fox News, citing the local sheriff’s office, reported “multiple” deaths.
The Baltimore Sun, which owns the Gazette, also reported that multiple people have been shot, according to an employee at the scene.
Lisa Clough, director of media relations for University of Maryland Medical Center, confirmed to HuffPost that one patient from the shooting is at their facility but could not confirm the type of wound or condition of the patient.
A suspect has been taken into custody, Fox News reported, citing Anne Arundel County Sheriff Ron Bateman.
“We’re doing everything we can to secure that building,” Lt. Ryan Frashure of the Anne Arundel County Police said on CNN. “We’re doing everything we can to get people out safe. We’re trying to minimize the casualties.”
Amid the shooting, Capital Gazette reporters covered the situation as it occurred.
“A single shooter shot multiple people at my office, some of whom are dead,” tweeted Capital Gazette reporter Phil Davis. “There is nothing more terrifying than hearing multiple people get shot while you’re under your desk and then hear the gunman reload.”
Davis described the shooter as firing through the building’s glass door.
Photojournalist Joshua McKerrow, who identifies himself as working for The Baltimore Sun and Capital Gazette, tweeted photos from the scene that showed a heavy law enforcement presence outside.
A search of the building on Bestgate Road remains ongoing, the police department tweeted just after 3:30 p.m.
A Twitter user who identifies himself as an intern at the Capital Gazette tweeted out a request for help around 2:45 p.m.
Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan, responding to news of the shooting on Twitter, said he is “absolutely devastated to learn of this tragedy.”
A White House spokeswoman also responded with a statement, saying, “Our thoughts and prayers are with all that are affected.”
