Mariah Carey’s Reality Show will Not be Returning For 2nd Season
No more reality TV for Mariah Carey – at least for now. Her E! docuseries, Mariah’s World, will not return for a second season. The network had always positioned her series as an “event” series, indicating it would just run for one season. E! said in a statement,

E!’s ‘Mariah’s World’ was an eight-part event that chronicled her 2016 world tour. It was exciting to bring our viewers inside the private world of one of today’s most iconic stars as she returned to the stage last year.
The series struggled with ratings, debuting strongly in December 2016 with 2.2 million viewers during its premiere episode. However, viewership fell off drastically from then on with the remaining episodes drawing between just 510,000 and 810,000 viewers each.

Are you sad to see “Mariah’s World” go?

#EMPIRE: Taraji P. Henson Honored for Her Work in Fighting HIV/AIDS: ‘We’re Going to Find a Cure’
Taraji P. Henson considers herself an ally in the fight against HIV/AIDS.

The 47-year-old actress was among those honored for her work in battling the health epidemic during the Black AIDS Institute’s Heroes in the Struggle Awards gala in Los Angeles on Saturday (Sept. 16) alongside Alfre Woodard, Laverne Cox, Vanessa Williams, Gina Belafonte, daughter of Harry Belafonte, and AIDS activist Gina Brown, who was infected with HIV more than 20 years ago.

As a native of Washington D.C., a city with the highest HIV infection rate in the nation, Henson is determined to use her platform to raise awareness.

“When you lose people that you love to something that’s preventable, or that can be cured, why wouldn’t you want to be apart of it? Why wouldn’t you want to help save lives?” the Empire star told ET on the red carpet.
But when it comes to a virus that has infected more than 35 million worldwide, education is a key factor in ending the epidemic.

“The more we talk about it, the more awareness will be raised,” Henson explained. “We have to keep talking about it because when you don’t talk about it, shame comes in, and people who have shame make decisions out of fear and those usually aren’t healthy decisions.”

“It’s always going to be a war,” she added. “It’s spiritual warfare, that’s life, but we’re going to find a cure.”
The night was a family affair for Henson, as she was presented her award by her TV husband, Terrence Howard, and director John Singleton. Howard and Singleton praised Henson’s tenacity and fearlessness in both acting and activism, as did her other Empire co-star, Jussie Smollett.

“I’m so proud of him,” she gushed over Smollett. “I’m proud of the artist he’s becoming but more importantly the philanthropic work that he’s doing because you can make money and just turn your back and live good. But my father always told me: if you are blessed, it is your duty to go out to the world and be a blessing. Some people do it and some don’t. I’m one that does and I’m so glad that Jussie does too, I’m in good company.”

Smollet, who co-chaired the event and photographed this year’s “heroes” described the challenge as a “huge undertaking,” but well worth the hard work.

“It’s something I’m forever grateful to take a part in,” the 34-year-old actor shared before explaining that his goal is to use his star power to reenergize the “conversation” around HIV/AIDS. “I feel like my hands are deep in hollywood and entertainment, young hollywood, and black hollywood for that matter. There’s so many things for us to care about, so many things affecting our sisters and brothers and I keep saying we have to multi-task because nothing is more important than our lives. Everything that affects, and could possibly take away, our lives, we need to be tackling as well. From police brutality to HIV and AIDS.”

The awards ceremony was centered around “black men honoring black women,” an idea for which Smollett proudly took credit.

“I just feel like regardless of who you fall in love with, race or gender, if you cannot appreciate or respect and honor all that a black woman is you need to seriously rethink your entire existence in life,” he said. “I’ve always been a black man who wants to honor black women. I come from a black women, my sisters are black women,  there is nothing that I’d rather do than sit in front of my mother [who is here] tonight and show her that I’m honoring black women.”

#NEWMUSIC: Syleena Johnson & Dad Syl Johnson Team Up Drop Single “We Did It”
Syleena Johnson is teaming up with her legendary father, soul singer Syl Johnson on the collaborative album, Rebirth of Soul. Due out November 10 via Shanachie Entertainment, the project was conceived and produced by Syl, whose original hit version of “Take Me To The River” was covered by Al Green and Talking Heads. Everyone from Jay-Z and Kanye West to Wu-Tang and Usher has sampled Syl Johnson’s recordings.

The album consists of Syleena’s searing interpretations of classic R&B songs, mainly from the Fifties and Sixties, recorded with live musicians. As Syl Johnson notes, “people don’t use live musicians much anymore; but every musician brings his heart to a recording.”
Syleena shares, “The inspiration behind Rebirth of Soul is my father. I wanted to honor him and classic soul music in a time when auto tune and electronic beats reign supreme. While I am not against this kind of creative musicianship, there is so much more to the real thing. True soul music tells stories…stories that can heal a nation.”
Recorded in Chicago, Syl Johnson’s long-time base and Syleena’s hometown, the sessions featured musicians who played on hit R&B recordings there over the years and a majority of the album features songs associated with Chicago artists, songwriters or record labels.

The first single is Syleena’s horn-filled rendition of her father’s song, “We Did It,” off his 1973 album Back for a Taste of Your Love.

However, it has been noted that the album’s most standout track is her remake of his 1969 Black Power anthem, “Is It Because I’m Black,” originally arranged by Donny Hathaway. “It has been made apparent that we are still dealing with some of the same issues today as we have in the past,” Syleena says. “The state of our country shows how this song can still resonate even now. This is also a testament to how Soul Music still lives on.”

The songs on Rebirth of Soul, hand-picked by Syl Johnson, run the gamut from lesser-known gems such as Betty Everett’s “There’ll Come A Time” and Bettye Swann’s “Make Me Yours,” to such landmark hits as “Chain of Fools” and “I’d Rather Go Blind,” done definitively by Aretha Franklin and Etta James respectively.

#HIPHOPNEWS: Nas Calls Nicki Minaj His "Shorty" In New Series Of Photos

This time, the photos captured the pair posing in matching Gucci gear next to the Illmatic mastermind’s 1988 190E Mercedes-Benz, something he evidently picked up for his 44th birthday.
Nas’ caption read: Got my Bday 1988 190E Benz & picked up Shorty from Queens! We Out!”

#EMMYS: Emmys 2017 Brings In Second Lowest Viewership of All Time
The 2017 Emmy Awards had some amazing moments and highlighted diversity throughout the night, but the show reached the second lowest viewership of all time.
The event was viewed by 11.4 million people, up a tiny bit from 2016′s total of 11.3 million viewers, which was the lowest number ever.
There was a joke made at the beginning of the night that this year would bring in “the largest audience to witness the Emmys, period — both in person and around the world.”

Host Stephen Colbert then brought out former White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer to confirm that idea and it was one of the most talked about moments of the night.

So, did you watch the Emmys?

#WOW: Kevin Hart Posts Apology Video To Wife & Kids After Extortion Attempt Over Alleged Sex Tape
Kevin Hart has published a video on his own Instagram admitting that someone has been trying to extort him over “mistakes” he has made.

While Hart doesn’t explicitly reference what he’s being blackmailed over, reports have been circulating for months that he may have cheated on his pregnant wife, Eniko Parrish-Hart.
In the video, Hart takes responsibility for his actions and apologizes to his wife and children, saying that he’d rather “‘fess up” than allow somebody to profit from his mistakes.

“I’m not perfect. I’m not gonna sit up here and say that I am, or claim to be, in any way, shape or form,” Hart began. “And I made a bad error in judgment, I put myself in an environment where only bad things can happen, and they did.”
“And doing that, I know that I’m gonna hurt the people closest to me, who I’ve talked to and apologized to, my wife and my kids. It’s a shitty moment,” said the comedian and movie star. “It’s a shitty moment when you know you’re wrong and there’s no excuses for your wrong behavior.”

TMZ has further reported that there are three clips being used to blackmail Hart — one that shows Hart “getting cozy” with a woman in a club, one with two people in a bed possibly having sex (in which Kevin Hart can’t be seen), and a third that shows people “milling around a room” (again, whether or not it’s Hart is up for debate).
FBI sources have reportedly told TMZ that they have a suspect in the case, and that Hart was being blackmailed for at least $10 million. The alleged extortionist has since released a video, published by TMZ, splicing together interviews and audio where Kevin Hart talks about being faithful to his wife.

The audio is accompanied by Star Wars-style rolling text overlay that accuses Hart of “recklessly partying, drinking, doing drugs and having sex with multiple women at the Las Vegas Cosmopolitan Hotel.” The video’s creator also writes that she knows of other women who claim to have had sexual contact with Hart.

He takes an interest in James St. Patrick after his release from prison and sees an opportunity in James’ development project with Simon Stern.

Now, we will have the opportunity to really dig into Councilman Tate to see just how grimy (and fine) he really is.

Congrats to Larenz!

#YIKES! Wendy Williams To T.I.: ‘I Don’t Have A Behind Like You Don’t Have Height’
As promised, Wendy Williams kicked off the new season of her talk show by addressing her bikini photos and T.I.
For the most part, she laughed off getting dragged online over her bikini body and stated the she knows she’s shaped like the letter “P.”
Then, she addressed T.I., who posted the photos and encouraged her to be less malicious when talking about others.

Wendy said: Shoutout to the lovely T.I. and his comments regarding my lack of behind.
He threw the ball, but he was very civilized.
Well, you know, T.I….I don’t have a behind just like you don’t have height which is why you wear lifts.

She went on to say they are “not fighting”…they are just “grown people throwing subtle shade.”

Are jorts getting shorter or hip lines getting higher? These are the questions that aren’t quite keeping me up at night, but might interrupt a nap while riding in a car type thing.
