Nicki Minaj UNVEILS “The Real Her” In COMPLEX Magazine’s December 2014/January 2015 Issue
Arguably one of the hardest working females in Hip Hop right now, Nicki Minaj isn’t showing signs of slowing down any time soon. And for her newest feature, Nicki (and her girls) is gracing COMPLEX magazine's December 2014/January 2015 issue, including another fierce spread to add to the many magazine pictorials she has recently slayed.
As fans patiently await her delayed third studio album The Pinkprint (which she dubs her most personal album yet), the 31-year-old raptress has been on her grind, working the promo trail for her new project. The NYC raptress has been busy annihilating magazine covers, offering up her thoughts in interviews and dropping singles from her forthcoming LP. Days ago, she teased fans with behind-the-scenes shots of her, Lil Wayne and Drake on the set of her new video “ONLY."
With everthing moving at the speed of light, there’s no doubt Nicki isn’t receiving much sleep these days. And to further prove how much she’s sleep deprived, the Young Money MC struggled to stay awake in yet another interview.
For the November 2014 GQ cover story, Nicki could barely stay keep her eyes open, dozing off at the drop of a dime. And this interview was no different. Before getting to her burning questions, Complex writer Lauren Nosteo points out during her sitdown with YMCMB’s first lady, Nicki could barely keep her eyes open, answering her questions with her head tilted back and eyes half closed. Get some rest Nick!
In the COMPLEX cover story, Nicki dishes on the misconceptions surrounding her new album The Pinkprint (dropping Dec. 15th), the guilt she struggles with as a result of fame, retiring from the rap game, when she plans to become a mother, her current relationship with her family and more.
Here are the highlights:
What’s behind your more natural look and your street singles reminiscent of earlier “Mixtape Nicki”?
I didn’t go back to “Mixtape Nicki.” That’s how [members of the media] feel, but that’s not what I’ve done. I’ve never stopped rapping; I’ve never stopped doing freestyles; I’ve never stopped doing remixes and features; I’ve never stopped raising the bar lyrically. I understand and respect people’s opinions when they hear me do certain things and say she’s “going back,” but I haven’t gone back, I’ve moved forward. I’ve always been evolving.
You’ve said The Pinkprint will be your most personal album yet. What are you addressing about your past and present that you haven’t before?
My family, loss, death, guilt…. I’ve struggled with a lot of guilt.
Guilt over what?
When you’re working and you’re busy and you’re successful, no matter what, something suffers, whether it’s your relationship with your mother, your relationship with your whole family, not being able to go to your brother’s graduation…. Certain things suffer and take the back burner, not because they’re on the back burner in your heart but because the world just moves so quickly. A lot of people, when they’re chasing their dreams, they have to leave people they love. A lot of artists feel that guilt but they don’t express it.
Has your relationship with your family suffered?
Yes, because I feel like I’m the voice of reason in my family and I’ve always taken control and tried to lead and tried to be the one to help my family stay on the right path. When I’m not there, and something doesn’t work out, I always think to myself, “If I was there, this wouldn’t have happened.”
Jay Z’s The Blueprint inspired the title The Pinkprint and the idea of laying the blueprint for female rappers to come. What similarities do you see between you right now and Jay circa The Blueprint?
I can’t. I have no idea what he was doing before The Blueprint dropped. It’s not that literal. People keep asking me about Jay’s The Blueprint and they think I’m doing something like that. I made reference to The Blueprint because Jay is the biggest rapper of our time. The name of the album was inspired by Jay but not the body of work. I do think that it’s going to create new rules, though, in [the way] that [The Blueprint did].
In 2012, when you spoke with Miss Info for your last COMPLEX cover, you said, “In five years, ideally, I’d like to be married and have kids.” This year, you said that the end goal is to make $500 million and do five albums. Would you retire after five albums and just have a family?
Yeah. I won’t use the word “retire” but I would use the word “vacation”—because I don’t believe in vacations, I don’t believe in holidays. I have to put out all six of my albums, contractually. After the fifth, I’ll probably have my baby. I wonder if I’m going to be one of those women who balances my child with a career. I always said, “When I have my baby, it’s going to be all about my baby.” I don’t want the child feeling like they don’t have all of my attention, so I always said, “I’m going to take a little break.” But we’ll see.

Tracy Morgan’s Lawyer Says Comedian Still Hasn’t Recovered From Brain Injury
As the battle for responsibility in the deadly June 7 Walmart car crash that claimed the life of comedian James “Jimmy Mack” McNair and severely injured several others rages on, there unfortunately isn’t any positive Tracy Morgan update news to pass along.
In fact, his lawyer says he’s still recovering from the brain injury sustained at the time of the accident.

Lawyers were in court in New Jersey for a scheduling conference in Morgan’s lawsuit against Wal-Mart.
A Wal-Mart truck slammed into the back of a limo van that was carrying Morgan and several friends on their way from a show in Delaware. One person was killed, and three others were injured, two seriously. Morgan spent several weeks in the hospital and in rehab.
Morgan sued for punitive and compensatory damages. In a response to the lawsuit filed in late September, Wal-Mart contended the victims’ injuries were partly due to the fact that they weren’t wearing seatbelts.
Morgan wasn’t at Tuesday’s proceeding, which was convened to settle on a schedule.
Truck driver Kevin Roper, who is not named in Morgan’s lawsuit, was charged with death by auto and four counts of assault by auto in state court. Last Friday, he filed to have Morgan’s lawsuit delayed while that case proceeds. A hearing on the matter is scheduled for mid-December.
A preliminary investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board released in June said Roper was driving 65 mph in the 60 seconds before he slammed into the van. The speed limit on that stretch of the New Jersey Turnpike is 55 mph and was lowered to 45 mph that night because of construction.
Morgan also sustained a broken leg, nose and ribs during the crash.

Despite rumors that an ambush at the multiple hands of Chief Keef’s GBE clique left him in the fetal position, Migos’ Quavo has obviously survived to live another day. And talk sh*t about it on Instagram.

As for the snatched “QC” chain however, it wasn’t present in the new Instagram clip, as it’s apparently in the possession of Chief Keef.
The reasoning for Quavo’s latest PSA stems from a botched performance at the Stadium nightclub in Washington, D.C. on the wee hours of November 16. Goons affiliated with Chief Keef were sent to disrupt the show and they were successful in their mission, coming away with a golden trinket as an additional bonus.

Mary J. Blige Doesn’t Allow Husband to Have Female Friends!
There is no rule book for how to maintain a healthy and happy marriage. From what we’re told, marriage requires work and every couple handles their marriage differently. Mary J. Blige recently revealed that she and her husband have an agreement when it comes to friends outside of their marriage. Neither of them are allowed to have friends of the opposite sex.
The singer revealed this tid bit of information during an interview with Stella magazine. She shares:
All females for me, all guys for him. There’s none of that, ‘Oh, that’s my female friend. Oh, that’s my guy friend.’ No, not in a marriage, I’ve never seen that work.’
The London Sessions singer married Kendu Isaacs — who is also her manager- in 2003. And since then, they’ve agreed to this pact.
Mary also talks about not having children, but being enjoying being a stepmother to Kendu’s three children from a previous relationship:
I was never sitting around think, ‘Oh God, I want a baby. No.’ And then these very special kids came along and it was like they were tailor made for me to be their stepmom.
She adds:
Being a single person and an artist, there’s a lot of selfishness that you don’t even know you have. Being a wife, it’s not all about me.

NBA Baller Joe Smith Says Lil Fizz’s Baby Mama Moniece Stole $109,000 From Him!
Former NBA star Joe Smith claims his ex-girlfriend, “Love & Hip Hollywood” star Moniece Slaughter, bilked him out of a ton of money … and he’s pissed that cops have done nothing about it.
Reports TMZ: According to a report filed with the Manhattan Beach Police Department, Smith claims that between October 2011 and March 2012, nine checks were written from his checkbook to a Timothy Clayton Carr … totaling $109,000.
Smith told police he did not write the checks and does not know a man by that name.
In June 2012, police were able to get a hold of Carr, who told them he was a friend of Slaughter and that he was cashing the checks for her as a favor because she didn’t have a bank account. Carr told cops he was unaware the checks were stolen or that anything was wrong until Smith canceled the last check.
Carr also told police Slaughter had agreed to pay him back for the canceled check, but it when it came time to meet up … she disappeared.
But Slaughter told police an entirely different story. According to the report, Slaughter claims Smith knew all about the checks and signed them personally. She claims Smith only canceled the last check because the pair broke up.
After talking to Slaughter, police went back to Smith and explained her story. His response … “She’s crazy.”
Smith has told police he wants to press charges, but nearly 2.5 years later … nothing has come of it. He tells TMZ Sports he’s frustrated the case remains unresolved and feels police have been giving him the runaround.
Cops tell TMZ Sports the case remains open and active.
GONE TIL NEXT NOVEMBER: NFL Suspends Adrian Peterson Without Pay For Season
Minnesota Vikings star running back Adrian Peterson learned Tuesday he will be suspended without pay for the rest of the 2014 NFL season, according to an NFL statement.
Reports CNN: He will not be reinstated before April 15 because he violated the league’s personal conduct policy “in an incident of abusive discipline that he inflicted on his four-year-old son last May,” the league said.
Peterson has been on the exempt/commissioner’s permission list — which kept him off the field, with pay — since September after allegations he disciplined his 4-year-old son too harshly with a “switch” or thin stick. Initially charged with felony child abuse, Peterson pleaded no contest to misdemeanor reckless assault this month.
“The timing of your potential reinstatement will be based on the results of the counseling and treatment program set forth in this decision,” NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said in a letter to Peterson. “Under this two-step approach, the precise length of the suspension will depend on your actions. We are prepared to put in place a program that can help you to succeed, but no program can succeed without your genuine and continuing engagement.”
His reinstatement also hinges on his rehabilitation, how he cares for his children and whether he commits further violations of the law or league policy, the letter stated.
Peterson will appeal the decision, the NFL Players Association said. The NFLPA further said the discipline imposed on Peterson is “inconsistent” and it will “demand that a neutral arbitrator oversee the appeal.”
The NFL’s decision demonstrates that a “credibility gap … exists between the agreements they make and the actions they take,” the NFLPA said, and since Peterson’s case was adjudicated, the league has ignored its obligations and tried to impose an arbitrary form of discipline on the running back.
“The facts are that Adrian has asked for a meeting with Roger Goodell, the discipline imposed is inconsistent and an NFL executive told Adrian that his time on the Commissioner’s list would be considered as time served,” the NFLPA statement said.
Peterson has not played since September 7 when the Vikings took on the St. Louis Rams in week one of the season. As of Sunday, when the Vikings lost to division rival the Chicago Bears, Peterson had missed nine games.
A hearing will now be scheduled and Peterson — with the counsel of a lawyer and the NFL Players Association — can present evidence in support of his appeal. He will remain on the commissioner’s exempt list until the appeal has run its course.

No. It’s time to be a wife. It’s time to be the woman my man needs. My man don’t need a girl that’s on TV, my man needs a girl by his side. That’s really what it’s about right now for me. It’s kind of bittersweet, this whole process, especially filming this last season. Even though there’s still the Erica Mena crazy stuff going on, this really is the best season ever for me.
And you won’t miss the reality TV thing at all?
Here’s the thing, I’ve been working my butt off since I was 16; I was 16 in a Fabolous video. I’m 27 now. I’ve had a good run. I’m bowing out gracefully, on my own terms. Plants need to be repotted every once in a while, and I need to repot myself. Love & Hip-Hop has opened doors for me, it’s even brought me to this position where I was actually able to host 106, and get to that level with Shad. I think it’s done everything it was supposed to do for me. Now it’s time to let another Erica Mena in the door.

Katherine Heigl reflects on negative comments from her former Grey's Anatomy boss Shonda Rhimes
She's moved on to star in a new show, but is still followed by the drama from her previous TV role.
In a new interview with Extra host Mario Lopez, Katherine Heigl offered her apologies to her former boss Shonda Rhimes, after the Grey's Anatomy creator revealed the actress was difficult to work with during the six seasons she appeared on the hit show.
Nowadays, the 35-year-old star is rebooting her career with NBC's State Of Affairs and recently said that she is 'sorry [Shonda is] left with such a cr**py impression of [her].'
For four years, Katherine starred in her most high-profile role as Dr. Izzie Stevens and even scored several award nominations for her work on Grey's.
Though she nabbed an Emmy for her portrayal in 2007, the actress' history with the medical series was marked by off-screen drama.
Shonda spoke with The Hollywood Reporter in October and referenced to Katherine's behavior: 'I don't put up with bullsh*t or nasty people. I don't have time for it. There are no Heigls in this situation.'
And months later, Katherine finally opened up about the negative comments telling Mario, 'it sucks, I am sorry that she feels that way and I wish her nothing but greatness.'
'I have nothing negative to say about Shonda,' she continued.
'I'm a big fan of her work. I watch Scandal every week and so I'm sorry she's left with such a cr**py impression of me. I wish I could do something to change that. Maybe I will be able to someday.'
After reading and hearing about how Shonda felt about her, Katherine wanted to improve her bad reputation on a new TV project.
'Yeah that took some stomaching and having to just go, okay there's nothing I can do about this except to sort of prove it wrong,' she said.
Adding: 'The only way to prove it wrong is for people to have a work experience with me that doesn't speak to that at all.'
It's been five years since her exit from Grey's Anatomy and after a long break from television, the mother-of-two is returning to the small screen on a different network.
She will star in the political drama State Of Affairs alongside actress Alfre Woodard and also will try her hand as producer for the show.
'I'm also a producer on this. I have more opportunity to get involved,' she explained during the interview.
State Of Affairs debuts on Monday November 17.
