FANS LEAVE CONCERT DISGUSTED AT LAURYN HILL'S PERFORMANCE!
Lauryn Hill performed in South Africa for their jazz festival and has the
fans leaving in droves to get away from her the much awaited appearance of
Lauryn Hill, a last-minute replacement for Jill Scott, left a lot to be desired.
Not only did she come on late while her band tried unsuccessfully to placate the
restless audience, her performance was simply put, terrible. Firstly, the sound
was bad. The band was too loud and the bass was overpowering. She spent a great
part of her performance directing the show like a crazed conductor, turning away
from the audience several times per minute to instruct her band. Also, she
hardly sang, hiding behind rock-inspired remixes of the hits the audience had
been dying for. Her dress sense was also off. Clad in a leather jacket and a
strange, ruffled outfit, she looked nothing like the deep, conscious Hip Hop and
Neo Soul artist who dominated the 90s. Honestly, she appeared high on stage and
was an imposter in her own brand.
While her performance seemed to improve towards the end of the show,
several people walked out (the venue was previously packed to capacity), utterly
disappointed. Die hard Lauryn fans could not be fooled- Ms Hill has lost the
plot. In fact, walking out of the show was the ultimate show of love for those
who wanted to honour the memory of what she used to be. It also brought to mind
questions about how much Africans really support each other. Hugh Masekela would
have been the perfect close to the show. HHP gave his very best and displayed
the highest level of professionalism and yet he was made to open the show; why
do we feel the need to close with international artists all the time? From the
Botswana Gazette.
WOW….Lauryn not cute
