The Daily Buzz For July 18

Dave Chappelle Interviews Kendrick Lamar for Interview Magazine
In 2003, Chappelle’s Show made its debut and Kendrick Lamar (then known as K-Dot) released his debut mixtape Y.H.N.I.C. Fourteen years later, Chappelle has interviewed Lamar for Interview magazine. The conversation finds them touching on the few things they have in common, including their love of hip-hop, being black and famous, and that revelatory trip to Africa. Lamar specifically points to his trip to South Africa as his I made it moment.

“I went to South Africa—Durban, Cape Town, Johannesburg—and those were definitely the ‘I’ve arrived’ shows,” Lamar says. “Outside of the money, the success, the accolades … This is a place that we, in urban communities, never dream of. We never dream of Africa. Like, ‘Damn, this is the motherland.'”
Lamar isn’t as candid as he was in his interview with Big Boy last month, but seeing two geniuses exchange words are worth the read. Catch the interview here. Lamar is still on his DAMN. tour while Chappelle is preparing for his 14-night residency at Radio City Music Hall next month.

#RHoA: Kandi Burruss Can't Wait for NeNe Leakes to Make Her 'RHOA' Comeback
NeNe Leakes is making her big comeback on the The Real Housewives of Atlanta cast — and Kandi Burruss has a good reason to be excited.
The mother-of-two was unwillingly the center of attention last season, and with the return of NeNe along with former foe Kim Zolciak, Kandi is more than willing to share the drama with the ladies.

"Bringing the blasts from the past back into the future, it's going to be crazy, I'm sure. I'm just hoping that the craziness is not on me," she told Life & Style exclusively at the Babypalooza at Blogger Bash in NYC. "C'mon now, give me a break this year. Hopefully, it won't be so over the top dealing with me."
Last season, Kandi, 41, was wrongly accused by co-star Porsha Williams of planning to drug her to bring her home to her "sex dungeon" for a rendezvous with husband Todd Tucker. However, during the explosive reunion episode, it came to light that Southern belle Phaedra Parks was the one behind the malicious rumor.

"Since NeNe's been gone, I was the one that took a lot of the heat, different drama, you know, and I can not wait for her to help relieve some of this," she said with a laugh. "Relieve the pressure."

Alledgly NeNe is returning to RHOA with the biggest paycheck in network history — a whopping $2.5 million.
"The suits at Bravo are willing to pay big money to get the best cast,” said the insider. “NeNe has already declared that she expects to be making more money than Kim and would absolutely not come back otherwise.”
And with Kenya Moore's surprise new husband, we have a feeling Season 10 is going to be the best season ever!

#HIPHOPNEWS: Lauryn Hill Says There Is No Fugees Reunion in spite of unreleased Track!
The Fugees are back? SIKE…NOT!

On Saturday (July 15), Hot 97 premiered “The Ish,” claiming it was a new song from the trio of Lauryn Hill, Pras, and Wyclef Jean. Since the group hasn’t released a new album in over two decades, fans were thrilled with the prospects.
But shortly after the song made its rounds, L-Boogie fired off a tweet to dispel the reunion rumors. “The ‘new’ Fugees song is indeed an old track played around with back in the day in the lab,” she wrote. “Not sure who leaked it, but I have my suspicions.”

It’s unclear when the song was made, but Pras’ verse likely came after 2014. In the song, he raps about a 2014 interview that he conducted with CNN: “Did an interview with CNN, North Korea crisis / I be speaking the truth so they ain’t advertise it.”
The Fugees have not released a new album since 1996’s multi-platinum project, The Score. Since then, there have been on-again-off-again rumors of a reunion.
In 2007, Pras said that a reunion was off the table due to Hill. “We went in the studio and recorded a couple records that were incredible,” he said at the time. “But, to put it nicely, it’s dead. Me and [Wyclef Jean], we on the same page, but Lauryn [Hill] is in her zone, and I’m fed up with that shit. Here she is, blessed with a gift, with the opportunity to rock and give, and she’s running on some bullshit? I’m a fan of Lauryn’s, but I can’t respect that.”
That same year, Pras said that he would likely never work with Hill again. “Before I work with Lauryn Hill again, you will have a better chance of seeing Osama Bin Laden and [George W.] Bush in Starbucks having a latte, discussing foreign policies, before there will be a Fugees reunion,” he told AllHipHop. “At this point I really think it will take an act of God to change her, because she is that far out there.”

However, in 2011, Jerry “Wonda” Duplessis told Rap-Up that he still thought a reunion could happen. “I believe there will be a day when the Fugees get together, but everyone in the group’s gotta be ready,” he said. “The Fugees are definitely going to get back together. The time will come. You’ve gotta wait, man.”

Until that time comes, listen to “The Ish” HERE

The model, 31, and the "Surefire" singer, 38, shared a series of stunning photos from their getaway on Instagram on Saturday, July 15. "We had the most beautiful, wonderful time in Bali," Teigen captioned one shot of herself and Legend dressed in traditional Balinese garb. "Como Shambhala, my body and mind have never felt so clear. Thank you for getting me to move again (first time since I was 8 months pregnant and Luna is ummmm 15 months old) and giving me some much-needed body and nutrition schooling! And thank you for dressing us in your beautiful, traditional ceremonial costumes!"
Teigen concluded her post with her typical witty charm, writing, "And don't worry, everyone. I still love me some .99 two tacos. Balance! #notbeingpaidtosaythis."

The Cravings cookbook author also shared an adorable snap with Luna, in which she looked radiant in an intricate gold headdress and a silk gown with her little girl sitting on her lap.

The Grammy winner and the Lip Sync Battle cohost married in Italy in September 2013, and welcomed Luna in April 2016.

Wendy Williams says she Won't Be To Returning To Radio: "I don’t have the strength."
Wendy Williams has made it very clear that she is not a fan of dallying or being lazy. The 53-year-old conversationalist has been working diligently to push her riveting talk show, The Wendy Williams Show, to the next level, but some may be unaware that she originally received her start in radio!

Williams has been featured in National Radio Hall of Fame, been nominated for four Daytime Emmy Awards, has had the opportunity of meeting/interviewing a plethora of celebrities/entertainers, launched a clothing line via HSN, and much more. As Williams approaches the ninth season of her syndicated talk show, the entertainer thought it would be the right time to get digital. The wife and mother introduced two mobile apps back in June. One app called WenMoji features Williams, but in interactive emoji form. While the other, Wendy Digital features the latest news in pop culture, and doing regular things.

Recently, Williams stopped by Sway’s Universe dishing on her two new apps, her relationship with Diddy, and why she’s not returning to radio. Check out a few excerpts below.

On the drugs people do today:
"I think the kids these days take worse stuff than we did."

On of her new apps:
"So I have two apps. One, WenMoji. It’s my image, doing things. There are several of them on there. I literally designed them so that you can have a conversation with somebody without using words. It’s all original. Now, the Wendy Digital is when you get the reporters reporting the hot topics. But one of the things particularly endeared to me is my “Suddenly Wendy” area. Suddenly you hit the button and you see something you wouldn’t expect."
"I’m in the backyard playing with my dogs, next thing you know, I’m in the basement digging in the crates. Looking in old school things like that. Personal videos that have nothing to do with a show bra and some eyelashes. You can go to the Apple iOS store and Android Play store."

On how she feels about the apps overall:
"I’m really proud of it because my son thinks we’re cool. He told me, ‘Mom, Facebook? Really? Nobody uses Facebook anymore. That’s why you’re corny.’”"

On how she became a business woman:
"Well, who’s going to pay my bills? Who grew up rich in this room? I don’t regret the 20’s. Those were very important years. Those years need to be out of your system in order to manage business as an adult. And so for me, no, when I got into radio I figured I’d be a mid-day radio personality."

On her relationship with Diddy:
"For me, Puff coming and representing the height of the Forbes list. The number one entertainer, not rapper entertainer. He beat Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt. He is number one. That’s my era. I helped him do Bad Boy. We were all in the trenches together at a particular time. Somebody can try to do you in, but the power of forgiveness, and the power of going on and making it. I’ve always been motivated by haters, including my parents. I appreciate Puff. And I appreciate that I don’t have to call him Diddy."

On if she would return to radio:
"I don’t have the strength. Even though the show [The Wendy Williams Show] is only one hour, my clothing line at HSN, I got my production company. And now I’m with Live Nation."

On what she loves about The Wendy Williams Show:
"I enjoy the various artists and entertainers that we have on our show. It’s one of the things that make us special from all the other talk shows – with all respect to my peers. You’re not going to see Billy Ray [Cyrus] one day then Lamar [Odom] the next day. And then LaLa [Anthony] talking about Melo and what all is transpiring in her life. You’re not going to see a man in a full wig on any other show, but my show. It’s a ridiculous show and it is the ride of my life. I love it!"

OH NO! Parents: R. Kelly Holding Our Daughters in Sex-Obsessed, Abusive ‘Cult’
A bombshell BuzzFeed News report quotes several sets of parents claiming their daughters are being held against their will in a sex-obsessed, abusive “cult" by legendary R&B singer R. Kelly. Three former members of Kelly’s entourage also spoke to the outlet, confirming the parents’ claims of the singer’s cult-like and predatory behavior—one is quoted as saying “[Kelly] is a master at mind control.... He is a puppet master.”

According to parents and the former crew members, Kelly: keeps a collection of young women at his homes in Atlanta and Chicago; replaces their cell phones with ones specifically used to communicate with him; requires they call him “daddy” and ask permission to leave their residence; films their sexual encounters with him; and punishes them verbally and physically when they break his “rules” such as appearing remotely flirtatious towards other men. The daughter of one set of parents have attempted to contact their child—now 21 years old—for two years but have been rebuffed by her claims that she is in a consenting relationship and is not being held against her will.

IM MEMORIAM: Horror Master George A. Romero and Oscar-Winning Actor Martin Landau Have Died
Film fans are reeling tonight from the losses of two certified Hollywood legends: beloved horror filmmaker George A. Romero and Oscar-winning character actor Martin Landau.

Romero all but single-handedly created modern zombie horror via his iconic 1968 film Night of the Living Dead. An error in the film’s copyright filing put it into the public domain, doing wonders for its visibility but not for Romero’s pocketbook. However, he turned that influential film into a series of “Dead” stories, including Dawn of the Dead, Day of the Dead, and Land of the Dead; in between those films, he directed the cult faves The Crazies, Martin, Knightriders, and Monkey Shines, as well as the Stephen King collaborations Creepshow and The Dark Half. King tweeted Sunday night:

Sad to hear my favorite collaborator–and good old friend–George Romero has died. George, there will never be another like you.
— Stephen King (@StephenKing) July 16, 2017

Filmmaker Jordan Peele, who frequently acknowledged the echoes of Night of the Living Dead’s mixture of social commentary and horror in his recent hit Get Out, also paid tribute on Twitter:

Romero started it. pic.twitter.com/i4dnxi8EFV
— Jordan Peele (@JordanPeele) July 16, 2017

Romero died Sunday, according to a statement provided to the Los Angeles Times, following a “brief but aggressive battle with lung cancer.” He was 77.

Martin Landau was one of the last remaining veterans of Hollywood’s Golden Age, a consummate professional who cut his teeth on the stage and live television before bowing on the silver screen in 1959, with the one-two punch of Lewis Milestone’s Pork Chop Hill and Alfred Hitchcock’s North by Northwest. He worked steadily, mostly in supporting roles, in all three mediums through the next three decades, becoming best known for his work on the original television version of Mission: Impossible.

But Landau (rather unexpectedly) flourished in his later years, beginning with an Oscar-nominated supporting performance in Francis Ford Coppola’s 1988 film Tucker: The Man and His Dream. He scored another nomination the following year, for his brilliant and complex turn as a morally challenged adulterer in Woody Allen’s masterpiece Crimes and Misdemeanors; he finally won the award five years later, for his wonderful turn as Bela Lugosi in Tim Burton’s Ed Wood.

Landau died Saturday at 89, according to Variety. He recently appeared on Marc Maron’s WTF podcast for a wide-ranging talk about his career on stage and screen.

Need a New Home? NBA champion Steph Curry finds a buyer for his $3.2 million, 7,520 sq ft San Francisco mansion
Steph Curry found a buyer for his California mansion for $3.2 million after nearly a year of it sitting on the market.
Steph, 29, and wife Ayesha Curry, 28, purchased the spacious 5-bedroom, 4-bathroom, 7,520 square foot mansion in Walnut Creek back in November 2015 for $3.2 million.
The 'sprawling Mediterranean villa with guest house' features master bed with steam shower, access to wraparound terraces and views of Mount Diablo.
Walnut Creek is 16 miles east of Oakland in the East Bay region of the San Francisco Bay Area.
The listing on Realtor.com also notes the property was updated in 2015 with a La Cornue kitchen. Ayesha Curry famously loves to cook, having penned her cookbook The Seasoned Life: Food, Family, Faith, and the Joy of Eating Well.

She also hosts the cooking show Ayesha's Home Kitchen on Food Network.
The home, built in 2006, has a massive walk-in closet and a luxurious master bathroom with a BainUltra therapeutic tub.

The property is on .93 acres and also has a guest house with separate garage. The main house has double deep three car garage.
The Warriors point-guard listed the home less than a year after purchasing it. It was priced at $3.6 million in October 2016.
Nice home!

Patsy And Edina Serve Fashion Disaster On Out Magazine’s “AbFab” Cover
No Lacroix?

From lavish premieres to Gay Pride parades, it seems that Jennifer Saunders and Joanna Lumley, the stars of Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie, have been everywhere as their movie hits theaters.
Now Lumley and Saunders can be seen on the cover of the latest issue of Out magazine. In true Eddy and Patsy fashion the duo star in an over-the-top photo shoot that highlights their extravagant-and messy-lives.
In the feature article for the August issue Out Editor-in-Chief Aaron Hicklin sits down with Saunders to discuss the history of Ab Fab and how Eddy and Patsy are really each other’s true loves after all these years:

“I think they’re happy being who they are with each other, and it doesn’t rely on a safe heterosexual relationship at the center of it. There was one moment when Edina nearly got a boyfriend, but just as she’s about to get a shag, she looks over and sees Patsy under the sofa.”

#RHoA: Adrienne Maloof, Gretchen Rossi, Cynthia Bailey & Vicki Gunvalson Filming New Reality Show!
Adrienne, Gretchen, Cynthia and Vicki.

An east meets west mishmash went down over the weekend, a ‘Housewives’ collision of current and past reality stars — captured by a few photos shared on social media.
Blasts from past Cali-realities, Adrienne Maloof and Gretchen Rossi were snapped with Real Housewives of Atlanta beauty, Cynthia Bailey, and current Real Housewives of Orange County veteran, Vicki Gunvalson.

The somewhat random foursome had fun cheesing for the camera, in a day described by Bailey as “the craziest ever.” The girl party initially looked to be some sort of hangout linked a future project, presumably to be announced at a later date.
Adrienne Maloof appeared on the first three seasons of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. Andy Cohen dismissed Maloof in front of the reunion audience, after she was a no-show to the Season 3 finale series. A revealed family secret and legal skirmish with cast bigmouth, Brandi Glanville, marked her last season on the show. Her ex-husband, Paul Nassif is a current reality player, starring on E’s Botched.
Gretchen Rossi appeared on the Orange County franchise from Seasons 4-8. She exited after a dramatic televised engagement to Slade Smiley didn’t rescue a flatlined presence on the show.

Stay tuned, as details emerge about the budding project.

Empire: Who is French Montana playing in season 3?
The rapper and Khloe Kardashian’s ex will appear in third season debut
Empire’s season 2 finale featured a bevy of twists, including Lucious (Terrence Howard) marrying Anika (Grace Gealey) and her potential death at the hands of revenge-seeking Rhonda (Kaitlin Doubleday).

So what do producers have in store for season 3? EW can exclusively confirm that rapper (and Khloe Kardashian’s ex-boyfriend) French Montana will appear in the season 3 premiere as music mogul Vaughn, a member of Lucious Lyon’s powerful inner circle. Could he be a potential love interest for Cookie (Taraji P. Henson)?

Series co-creator Lee Daniels teased Montana’s appearance — as well as rapper Birdman’s, who plays himself — on his Instagram account Thursday.
Empire returns Wednesday, Sept. 21 at 9 p.m. ET on Fox.

Warriors' Draymond Green arrested on suspicion of assault
Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green was arrested on suspicion of assault Sunday in Michigan, according to court records.
The records show East Lansing police arrested Green on a misdemeanor assault and battery charge at 2:28 am Sunday. Green was released on a $200 bond and he's scheduled to be arraigned on July 20.
“We are aware of news involving Draymond Green in Michigan over the weekend,” the Warriors said in a statement. “At this point, we are collecting information and will have no further comment until we have a better understanding of the situation.”

East Lansing police spokesperson Lt. Scott Wrigglesworth said that officers witnessed an altercation between two men outside an eatery popular after the bars stop serving alcohol at 2 am.
“A man was assaulted by Green and was uninjured,” Wrigglesworth said. “Green was arrested and taken to the East Lansing city jail.”
Wrigglesworth added that Green was cooperative during the course of the arrest.
Green faces a maximum of 93 days in jail and a fine of up to $500.  MLive.com was the first to report assault charge on Monday, citing sources with knowledge of the arrest.

Green is a member of the U.S. Men’s Olympic men’s basketball team and is scheduled to attend Team USA’s camp in Las Vegas July 18-21.

D. Wade’s Ex wants Divorce Deal Re-done Due to His Bulls Signing
*When we heard Dwyane Wade was headed to Chicago, our mind immediately went to his ex, Siohvaughn Funches. If you recall, this same woman didn’t take to being the ex-Mrs. Dwyane Wade very well. She apparently likes to sue, too. And she lives in Chicago. We’ll leave it at that.
OK, so here’s the deal. It’s now three years since they settled their divorce, but now the ex-wifey is pushing to have the settlement re-opened in light of Wade’s new $47 million contract with the Chicago Bulls.
Funches is also suing her former divorce lawyer, Brian Hurst, for malpractice, according to Kim Janssen of the Chicago Tribune. She claims that Hurst agreed to the $5 million-plus settlement without her knowledge.
On Friday, that suit was thrown out, but Funches was given the opportunity to file an amended suit, with her new lawyer saying you can count on it. Wade himself was not named as a defendant in the suit.

Wade and Funches settled in 2013 despite divorcing three years earlier and splitting in 2007. The two have two sons together. Wade has since moved on and married Gabrielle Union.

Don’t be surprised if Wade finds himself having to deal with Siohvaughn over the top histrionics. Three years ago she made news by presenting herself as homeless and living on the streets.

Drake and Rihanna honor young fan who died of cancer
After a March show in Miami, the Make-a-Wish Foundation facilitated a meeting between Drake, Rihanna, and a young fan of theirs who was battling cancer. Drake ended up dedicating his album Views, which came out in late April, to the teen, writing in the liner notes that “this body of work is dedicated to Megan Flores. I pray for your well-being every day.”

Flores died Saturday after succumbing to her progressive metastasized sarcoma, and both Drake and Rihanna have now paid tribute to her via social media.

“Rest in peace my angel,” Drake wrote in the caption of an Instagram post with a picture of Flores. “I know heaven is celebrating today. Thank you for the moments and emotions we share I am blessed to have known you in this lifetime.”
Rest in peace my angel. I know heaven is celebrating today. Thank you for the moments and emotions we share I am blessed to have known you in this lifetime. @ovomegann
Meanwhile, Rihanna reposted the picture she had taken with Flores and Drake when they met, adding a lengthy caption of her own. “I had the pleasure of meeting an angel on earth!” Rihanna wrote. “She’s inspired me so much with her strength and her perspective on life! So fearless and kind! It’s heavy news that I can’t slide in your DMs anymore like I used to!!
There was always a smile waiting for me there! You brightened any day! Rest up baby girl! We will miss you!!”

BLOOP: Wendy Williams loses sponsor after coming out against black institutions
After Wendy Williams denounced HBCUs, the NAACP and Jesse Williams in general, Chevy has pulled their sponsorship from her show.
It was during her Hot Topics segment that she went on a rant against all three.

“On the other hand, I would be really offended if there was a school that was known as a historically white college. We have historically black colleges. What if there was the National Organization for White People, only? There’s the NAACP,” Williams stated.

These comments landed her in hot water with sponsors and it led to Chevy pulling out of her show all together.

The Wendy Williams show struck an all-inclusive deal with Chevrolet, Carat Media and ACE Media Corp to include on-air promotion of the 2016 Chevy Malibu. This covered everything from custom digital content, social media marketing, and was set to carry through all of 2016.
That changed after Wendy’s recent comments. Chevy no longer wants anything to do with her show.

According to sources, Wendy has been “sobbing all week” over the situation, though she still refuses to apologize.

The President and CEO of ACE Media Corp, which is the company that was responsible for facilitating the Chevy partnership, is Andrea Holmes Thompkins who graduated from Howard University.

Ghostbusters star Leslie Jones debuts Christian Siriano gown at movie premiere
Leslie Jones sashayed down the carpet of the Ghostbusters premiere in Los Angeles on Saturday in a red gown, but it wasn’t just any red gown: The ensemble was the finished product of an eye-grabbing collaboration with designer Christian Siriano that came together when the actress sent out a distress call.

“It’s so funny how there are no designers wanting to help me with a premiere dress for [a] movie. Hmmm that will change and I remember everything,” Jones tweeted back in June. Shortly after, the Project Runway alum reached out to her on social media and the two were in business by the end of the month.
“It shouldn’t be exceptional to work with brilliant people just because they’re not sample size,” Siriano tweeted. “Congrats aren’t in order, a change is.”

Jones debuted her look this weekend and gave thanks to the designer on social media: “I want to thank my baby [Christian Siriano] for making me this fabulous gown and for my wonderful stylist [Brian McPhatter] for putting this look all together!”

See photos of her gown below.
Leslie Jones (@lesdogggg) was not going to be played at the biggest movie premiere of her career. So when the actress couldn’t find a fashion designer to make her dress for the @ghostbusters red carpet, she said something about it. Thankfully, former “Project Runway” winner Christian Siriano (@csiriano) answered the call. The result is this gorgeous gown. #Boomerang by @lesdogggg
“Now that’s how you do it,” Siriano wrote on Instagram in response to her finished look. “You look stunning Leslie! Simple, elegant, powerful and chic!!”
Ghostbusters – also starring Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, and Kate McKinnon – hits theaters July 15.

Look who’s pregnant it’s TIKA SUMPTER!
Well what do we have here?  A baby bump on one of our faves?  It definitely appears so.

Early this morning, the "Haves & Have Nots" star took the stage at the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.  induction ceremony at the Sorority’s biennial Boulee conference currently taking place in Atlanta.
When Tika was named as one of the five honorary members (inductees are usually kept secret until the ceremony), she and her suspicious bump popped up on stage.  We're told she never addressed it, but pretty much everyone noticed.

We haven't confirmed who the father is or who she's dating.  So this was definitely a shocker.
Tika, whose government name is actually Euphemia L. “Tika” Sumpter, was recognized for her work as an actress (she's also starring as a young Michelle Obama in the upcoming movie Southside with You), and her work as a celebrity mentor for Black Girls Rock, Inc.
International President Dorothy Buckhanan Wilson said:
“Honorary Membership is bestowed upon women with high ethical standards who have received international recognition for outstanding achievement. Each of this year’s inductees have demonstrated remarkable strength and perseverance to achieve her goals and have a positive impact on the world around her. Most importantly, these women have done so with a commitment to serving others, a hallmark of Alpha Kappa Alpha.”
Tika's in good company.  The organization also inducted Breast Cancer Champion Karen Eubanks Jackson, Ambassador Susan Denise Page, Attorney (and "Scandal" inspiration) Judy A. Smith, and U.S. Deputy Surgeon General Sylvia Trent-Adams.

Membership in a Divine 9 organization doesn't come easy, so congrats to her on the accomplishment.  And on that baby on the way!
