Singer Janelle Monáe covers Essence magazine’s May 2013 issue. In the interview Janelle talks about her upcoming album Electric Lady which is due out this summer, her unique/eccentric style, and why she chooses to cover up her body.

“People don’t ask Jay-Z to take his shirt off when he rhymes,” she says defiantly. Her refusal to let it all hang out is a major part of her attempt to “redefine what it means to be sexy and what it means to be a woman. Showing my skin is not what makes me sexy,” she declares. “I like skirts and dresses just like everyone else, but I had a message I needed to put out there. It was up to me to show people and young girls there was another way.”

Tameka Raymond LAUNCHES "Kile’s World Foundation" In MEMORY Of Kile Glover
Tameka Raymond (shown atop with sons Darren, Ryan & Naviyd Eli) honored the 12th birthday of her son, the late Kile Glover, with the launch of Kile's World Foundation at the Woodruff Arts Center.
Shortly after Kile's passing (following a jet ski accident in 2012), Tameka announced the goals of the foundation tweeting, "Our goal is to increase water safety- thru implementing laws, policies & education. Kiles passing will not be in vain, we will see to this.”
Tameka clutched little Naviyd as he listened to Kile's voice playing on some videos being shown during the event.
Tameka's sons with Usher (Usher Raymond V and Naviyd Ely Raymond) were in attendance to honor the memory of their big brother.
"Big Rich Atlanta" stars Sharlinda Parker and Brie Rowe and Bow Wow's mom Teresa Caldwell came out to support Tameka.
She shared that Kile’s World Foundation will "offer art- based camps with multiple workshops including general instruction in the areas of acting, singing, dance, painting, illustration, music production and digital media." Also, Tameka says Kile’s World Foundation is poised to eventually open a magnet school with an emphasis on music and the arts.
And Tameka had the room decorated with artwork created by Kile before his death.
Tameka has truly created a wonderful foundation to honor her son.
Flavor Flav’s Fiancee Overdoses
Public Enemy’s Flavor Flav has a new matter to concern himself with.
The revered hypeman’s fiancee was hospitalized yesterday after overdosing on pain killers, says unnamed sources with TMZ.
Liz Trujillo, the fiancee, also stars with the rapper on the news season of “Couples Therapy,” a show about people in committed relationships trying to do better. The source of the news is a higher up from the show, TMZ revealed.
Trujillo, 39, is also the mother of one of Flav’s many kids. She is presently in the hospital, where she was taken by an ambulance.
Flavor Flav has a storied history with Hip-Hop, reality shows and drugs.
Khloe Kardashian, Lamar Odom Charity Scam?
Could Lamar Odom and Khloe Kardashian be involved in a charity scam? According to ESPN they are.
ESPN’s ‘Outside The Lines’ did a report on athlete charities, and identified Odom and Kardashian’s charity, “Cathy’s Kids”, as a scam. ESPN says that the ‘cancer’ charity which was founded in 2004 has not given any of the money it has solicited to cancer research.
According to the report, Odom’s charity, as well as several other charities set up by other athletes, had failed to fulfill the expectations that they were set up for.
JUST MARRIED! Mekhi Phifer & Reshelet Barnes GET HITCHED In Bevery Hills!
38-year-old former "ER" actor Mekhi Phifer is now officially a married man...again. He and Reshelet Barnes had a beautiful white wedding at the Montage Hotel in Beverly Hills this according to E! Online.
The twosome said their vows in front of 100 friends and family. And Mekhi's son (either Mekhi Jr. from previous marriage to Melinda Williams or Omikaye from his relationship with fiance Oni Souratha) also walked down the aisle..with a chihuahua on a leash!
Mekhi made his entrance to Stevie Wonder's "Ribbon In The Sky," while Reshelet kept it traditional and marched in to "Here Comes The Bride," before the couple exchanged vows under an altar made of yellow flowers.
A wedding guest revealed, "When she made her entrance into the courtyard, Mekhi was completely overcome with emotion and you could tell she took his breath away. He had to wipe tears from his eyes for several minutes."

Public Enemy To Be Inducted Into Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame
Acclaimed director Spike Lee and legendary entertainer/activist Harry Belafonte will have the honor of inducting legendary hip-hop group Public Enemy into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame next month.
The induction ceremony takes place at the Nokia Theater L.A. Live in Los Angeles next month.

Princess Diana Snuck Into Gay Bar by Freddie Mercury
Queen front man Freddie Mercury once snuck Princess Diana into a gay bar dressed in drag.
PRINCESS Diana dressed as a man and was smuggled into a gay bar by Queen star Freddie Mercury and comic Kenny Everett, it emerged yesterday.
Fun-loving Di was decked out in camp gear like the Village People for the prank.
TV’s busty Cleo Rocos, who went with the People’s Princess, said Di looked like a male model and added: “She loved it.” Indeed, disguised Di was delighted when she was served in the bar without being recognised.
She bought a wine and a beer while wearing a camouflage army jacket, black leather cap and aviator sunglasses.
Pal Rocos — who starred in the Kenny Everett Television Show — said: “When we walked in, we felt she would be discovered at any minute.
“But people just seemed to blank her. She sort of disappeared. She loved it.”
Di, keen to escape her stuffy royal life, was a fan of gay funnyman Everett and had earlier met him and Rocos for lunch in London’s posh Kensington.
They swigged peach and champagne cocktails and swapped gossip before going to Kenny’s penthouse.
He had been due to meet that evening with Queen singer and neighbour Freddie Mercury — but instead he rang him to call him over immediately.
The foursome spent the afternoon downing more champagne in front of TV reruns of US comedy The Golden Girls with the sound turned down.
They improvised the characters’ voices — “but with a much naughtier storyline”.
Giggling Di asked about their plans for the evening.
They said they were going to the Royal Vauxhall Tavern in South London.
Rocos, now 50, recalled: “Kenny said, ‘It’s not for you. It’s full of hairy gay men. Sometimes there are fights outside.’ “We pleaded, ‘What would be the headline if you were caught in a gay bar brawl?’
“But Diana was in full mischief mode. Freddie said, ‘Go on, let the girl have some fun’.”
Di put on what Everett had planned to wear and the four caught a cab.
Rocos says in her new book The Power of Positive Drinking: “She did look like a beautiful young man. She was always a very fit girl, so they might have thought, ‘There’s a nice young man with pert buttocks’.”
They got “through the leather throngs and thongs” to the bar before leaving 20 minutes later.
Next day Di had the clothes returned with a note ending: “We must do it again!”
The night out is thought to have taken place in 1988, when her marriage to Prince Charles was already on the rocks.
I Want To Break Free singer Freddie died of Aids-related pneumonia aged 45 in 1991, and Everett from an Aids-related illness aged 50 in 1995.
Diana died aged 36 in a 1997 Paris car crash.

En Vogue Wins Legal Battle For Name....Dawn Lewis & Maxine Jones BANNED From Using It!
Half of En Vogue must GIVE UP & TURN LOOSE their legendary group name. The messy legal battle between the group members is over....and Dawn & Maxine were left with nothing...
Maxine Jones & Dawn Lewis may have parted ways from half of the group, but they can no longer perform under or use the name En Vogue. Remember all the bank account, lawsuit & split drama with Terry Ellis & Cindy Herron on one side, with Dawn & Maxine on the other?
Well the legal battle for which half of the group gets to use and keep their original group name is finalized. And TMZ reports Terry & Cindy have been awarded exclusive rights to it.
After Terry & Cindy sued the other two for $1 mill back in all for using the En Vogue name "illegally," the legal battle began. The claimed since they had the bank accounts in their names and owned the LLC, the name and company is exclusively theirs. The judge agreed, but no damages were awarded.
Meanwhile, Dawn is set to appear on "R&B Divas: LA"....so hopefully we get her side of the story.

It's Easter At The White House! The Obamas ROLL OUT (With Eggs) For The Kids
The good times & eggs were rolling at the White House. The Obamas continued Easter Sunday, by welcoming 30,000 visitors on the White House Lawn for the annual Easter Egg Roll contest.
As if we needed any more reasons to love our First Fam. President Obama & First Lady Michelle put on their casual clothes and took a break from formal White House activities to play with the kids and their families. Except for lil homie in the suit who was serious about his referee role. He's known as Kid President (Robbie Novak)--who's become a Youtube star due to his cute yet honest videos about breaking down politics in a kid like (and oddly truthful) fashion. Quvenzhane Wallis, star of Beasts of the Southern Wild, was also a special guest of the Obamas.
First daughters Sasha & Malia even brought Bo along and read stories to the fams on the South Lawn. And the Easter Bunny showed up to say wassup to everyone.
Our fab First Lady rocked a spring-ready blue blazer with a floral & striped shirt and white pants as she told the crowd the theme of this year's event: Be Healthy, Be Active, Be You! Perfect for her Let's Move campaign to lower childhood obesity rates.
The girls set up shop to read a few Holiday appropriate books for the kids.
And First Dad Barack O. did what he loves--got into all the games with the kids:
