Mindy Kaling for Shape Magazine! Says How She Plans To Make Sure Her Daughter Always Knows She’s “Good Enough”

The hilariously funny star of The Mindy Project, who recently gave birth to a little girl, is on the cover of the June 2018 issue of SHAPE magazine, where she’s dishing about the new challenges of balancing motherhood, her successful career, and oh yeah, how she stays sane.

The 38-year-old first time mom, who currently stars in A Wrinkle in Time and the new NBC show Champions (which she also writes for), told SHAPE that she doesn’t feel overwhelmed by motherhood one bit.

“It hits me all the time that I have somebody at home who not just wants to see me but needs to see me,” Mindy says. “That’s incredibly rewarding. When someone needs you all the time, and they also kind of look like you, it’s a really nice feeling.”

The actress, who’s enjoying “breaking in” her new home with her daughter, admited to SHAPE that she didn’t realize how much of a homebody she’d become at first, but with an every-three-hours breastfeeding schedule, she’s learned to adapt and truly enjoy her time away.

“I’d go on these little jaunts out of the house, and they’d feel like secret, illicit excursions,” she shared. “It was exciting, and it made my life seem kind of dramatic.”

The star also opened up about her love of fashion, noting that just like most of us, she doesn’t have the “typical” female Hollywood body, but she’s hopeful the fashion industry will begin better serving women of all shapes and sizes.

“I feel that they’re going to be the next industry to have a big light shined on them, and it will be in terms of what healthy women look like and what fashion designers are putting forth,” she shared. “Things are starting to change a little. But I’ve been surprised by how an unhealthy physique is still considered beautiful and how even a size 4 woman is considered too big. That’s insane.”

While Kaling certainly isn’t obsessed with the number on the scale, she does admit that working out has become like therapy to her.

“Working out is a way for me to have mental strength,” she told the mag, “and now, with a kid, it’s also time that I have just for myself and to focus on my body.”

In fact, Kaling credits her active workout lifestyle with what kept her pregnancy weight gain in check.

“I kept my weight gain to about 27 pounds,” she shared. “I also worked out whenever I could while I was pregnant. I did a lot of yoga and a lot of walking, and I jogged until I couldn’t jog anymore. I exercised until the morning I gave birth.”

Kaling, who also stars in Ocean’s 8 next month, says that her attitude toward body positivity isn’t the only thing she plans to use to pave the way towards a healthy self-esteem for her new daughter. The actress admits that she can be overly critical at times but plans to raise her daughter with the confidence she didn’t always have.

“I was not that way as a child, and I want my daughter to be really confident all the time,” Kaling told SHAPE. “I’m going to do that by always making her feel like she is good enough and not being stingy with encouraging comments.”

Taking things in stride with a plan to give her little girl the tools she needs to make it? Sounds like Kaling has this motherhood thing on lock already.

"Shahs of Sunset" star Mercedes "MJ" Javid has some thoughts about her Bravo sisters, "Real Housewives of Atlanta" star NeNe Leakes and "Real Housewives of New York" star Ramona Singer -- and she held nothing back when she stopped by "The Tomorrow Show with Keven Undergaro" Wednesday night.

For the most part, MJ said she loves the Housewives and that "most people are really down to earth," but she made it clear that NeNe and Ramona do not fall into that category.

"NeNe always likes to carry herself way above anyone else on the network," MJ said. "Like, I don't have any hate for it, I just think it's -- you know, like, OK, you were a stripper, now you're Bravo's favorite."

While MJ acknowledged that NeNe does come up with tons of "zingers and quippy lines" -- including the infamous, "Close your legs to married men!" -- MJ believes she's lost touch with her roots.

According to reports, According to new legal docs, obtained by TMZ, Berry’s got a final notice to appear in court at the end of June to deal with the unresolved matter in her divorce. Fact is … she and Olivier are already officially divorced — that happened in December 2016. They also resolved custody issues involving their son, Maceo. The unresolved issue is dividing the goodies, and they’ve been dragging their feet.

We know there’s a prenup, so it may be there are no real issues since they know who gets what, and they’ve just put everything on the back burner. But the case is still active, and the judge wants it resolved once and for all.

Meghan Markle's Dad Speaks Out After the Royal Wedding

Meghan Markle‘s father Thomas Markle was unable to attend the Royal Wedding due to his health issues, but he is speaking out after the big event!

Thomas suffered a heart attack earlier this month and then there was the paparazzi scandal in which it was revealed that he staged photos of himself ahead of the wedding. After bowing out of the wedding to not embarrass Meghan and Prince Harry, he revealed his intentions to try and attend. In the end, he needed surgery on his heart and could not make the trip to England.

Thomas tells TMZ that he watched the royal wedding in California and that it was “emotional and joyful.”

“My baby looks beautiful and she looks very happy. I wish I were there and I wish them all my love and all happiness,” he said in his statement.

Prince Charles walked the bride down the aisle in his place.

The Houston Texans J.J. Watt to Pay for Funerals of Victims of Santa Fe School Shooting

J.J. Watt — the star defensive end of the NFL’s Houston Texans — will be covering the funeral costs of all 10 victims of the Santa Fe High School shooting.

The team confirmed the news to KTRK-TV in Houston. Shortly after news of the shooting broke, Watt simply tweeted, “Absolutely horrific.”

Ten people were killed on Friday and another 10 more were injured when a 17-year-old opened fire on a high school located about 30 miles away from downtown Houston. Of the 10 people killed, nine were students and one was a substitute teacher.

The 17-year-old, Dimitrios Pagourtzis, is in custody and has been charged with capital murder. According to the probable cause affidavit, Pagourtzis told an investigator he acted alone and spared people he liked because he wanted his story told.

In reaction to the events of Friday, Netflix canceled an event for season two of the show “13 Reasons Why,” whose second season includes a plot about thwarting a school shooting.

The shock jock went on to ask if Andy felt "used," explaining, "Yes, you got the job on CNN, but why shouldn't you get that job?" That was apparently the opening Andy needed. "You know what, if you put it that way … I got the job on CNN, I'm on Bravo all these hours. I get it. So hate me," he replied. "I'll be that guy for you, if it makes you happy and gives you peace." He said something similar last month in an interview with THR, acknowledging that he believes Kathy hates him. "I've moved on," he said at the time.

Kenny Leon Releases A Memoir ‘Take You Wherever You Go’

Tony Award-winning Broadway director Kenny Leon has released a new memoir titled, Take You Wherever You Go. The book will be released on June 5, 2018 but is available now on Amazon.

When Kenny Leon’s grandmother told him to “take you wherever you go,” she could hardly have anticipated that he would establish himself as one of Broadway’s most exciting and acclaimed directors. But through years of hard work, Kenny would migrate from a small wooden house in rural Florida to the Tony Awards’ stage, where he would win Best Direction of a Play for his 2014 revival of A Raisin in the Sun.

Jackson.

Leon is currently directing Children of a Lesser God on Broadway, which is in its final two weeks through May 27. He is also directing Colman Domingo‘s DOT for his Atlanta-based True Colors Theatre Company this summer.

Did Erika Jayne Really Quit the RHOBH? She Finally Reveals If She’s Returning Next Season

Erika Jayne appeared on today’s episode of The View and cleared up the ongoing rumors regarding her potential exit from The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.

After sharing a photo on Instagram and telling fans that “Erika has left the building,” the singer/reality star spoke to the hosts of the talk show about her future with the series and explained the hysteria that ensued due to her social media post.

“I was channeling Elvis and everybody had a meltdown,” she said. “I mean, you know, let a girl live.”

When pressed by the hosts about whether or not she is leaving the show, Erika officially confirmed that she will be coming back to Bravo for the upcoming ninth season of the RHOBH.

“I’m not leaving,” she proclaimed.
As the interview continued, host Meghan McCain pointed out that both she and Erika have had issues with Erika’s co-star, Teddi Mellencamp Arroyave, in recent months. As fans may recall, Meghan and Teddi butted heads earlier this year after Meghan called Teddi “boring” during an appearance on Watch What Happens Live

While Erika and Teddi had their differences during filming on season eight, Erika didn’t have anything bad to say about her co-star. In fact, she told Meghan that Teddi, like everyone, brings a specific and necessary vibe to the series.

“My friend Yolanda Hadid, who brought me onto the show, said it best, ‘Each woman fills a specific slot,'” Erika explained. “Everyone bonds with their favorite girl. Someone may like you, someone may like her. So there is enough for everyone. If everyone was the same, the show would be boring.”

As for Meghan, she stands by her “boring” assessment of Teddi, saying that she’s “not taking it back.”

Cate Blanchett for Variety May 2018! She said Harvey Weinstein Sexually harassed her!

Cate Blanchett has added her name to the long list of women who have accused Harvey Weinstein of sexual misconduct. In an interview with Variety published this week, the Australian actress confirmed that the disgraced Hollywood mogul had sexually harassed her, saying, “I think he really primarily preyed, like most predators, on the vulnerable. I mean I got a bad feeling from him.”

“He would often say to me, ‘We’re not friends,’” she added. When asked what Weinstein meant by that, Blanchett said, “I wouldn’t do what he was asking me to do,” but declined to elaborate any further.

This is the first time Blanchett has spoken up about Weinstein’s alleged behavior toward her. The actress — who has appeared in several films produced by Weinstein, including The Talented Mr. Ripley, The Aviator, and Carol — has been a vocal supporter of the #MeToo and Time’s Up movements.

Blanchett also touched on the allegations against director Woody Allen, with whom she’s also worked on the film Blue Jasmine.

“Obviously, Dylan Farrow has been living in a world of pain,” she said, referring to Woody Allen’s adopted daughter, who has accused him of molesting her when she was a child. “And if the case has not been properly tried, then it needs to be reopened and go back into court because that’s a place where those things get solved.”

Asked if she would work with either of these men again, Blanchett answered that she doesn’t think Weinstein will be “making films with anybody,” and that she didn’t know about the allegations against Allen when she worked with him, but that “far more important than me adding to yet another headline … and finger-pointing is, if that issue has not been dealt with … I am absolutely for it to go back into the courts because there lies the solution.”

Phaedra Parks shared a picture o her Instagram account to impress her followers, but the result was not quite what she expected. Fans haven’t forgotten what happened in the show.

Fans did not seem impressed at all and started to slam her.

‘What u need to remember is that this classy woman is the same messy bitch who lied about rape and also took her best friend down with her and when confronted showed no remorse she is a pathological liar and good Riddance of the real housewives cs I don’t think it gets much worse than lying about rape to take somebody down,’ one of the angry followers began writing.

#Empire Renewed by Fox for Season 5

Fox has renewed “Empire.” The order for a fifth season of the music drama comes with four episodes remaining in its 2017-18 run, and fewer than two weeks before Fox makes its annual upfront presentation to advertisers in New York.

“’Empire’ is as compelling, emotional and unpredictable as it ever was,” said Michael Thorn, entertainment president for Fox Broadcasting. “We are so proud of our amazing cast, led by Terrence and Taraji, who deliver powerful performances week after week. We’d also like to thank our tremendous creative team – Lee, Danny, Brett, Ilene, Sanaa, Brian and Francie – whose inspired storytelling continues to create the unforgettable, jaw-dropping OMG moments that have always been signature to ‘Empire’.”

Currently in its fours season, “Empire” has slid from its once-dominant position as one of television’s highest rated series. Through 14 episodes this season, the music-industry drama is averaging a 1.9 rating in the 18-49 demo and 5.8 million total viewers — down 31% and 24%, respectively , from season three — according to Nielsen live-plus-same day numbers. The series remains an important programming piece for Fox, however, as it still regularly wins its Wednesday-night time period, providing a strong lead-in for fellow drama “Star.” According to data from Fox, the series is its second most watched in multi-platform viewing, averaging 11.3 million viewers.

Starring Terrence Howard and Taraji P. Henson, “Empire” is co-created by Lee Daniels and Danny Strong. Executive producers are Daniels, Strong, Ilene Chaiken, Brian Grazer, Francie Calfo, Sanaa Hamri, Brett Mahoney, and Dennis Hammer. Imagine Television produces with 20th Century Fox Television. Mahoney will take over for Chaiken as showrunner on the series for the fifth season. Chaiken currently has a drama pilot in contention for next season at Fox, and is exiting day-to-day duties on “Empire” to focus on her pilot and additional new development for 20th Century Fox Television, where she is under an overall deal.

Neo-soul icon Lauryn Hill is playing her classic (and only) album The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill in full for its 20th anniversary on tour later this year, but first, she played a one-off at Harlem’s historic Apollo Theatre last night (5/1). 

Like at a usual Lauryn Hill show, she played about half of The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, plus some Fugees songs. Making this show extra special, when she played “Ex-Factor,” she incorporated part of the new Drake single “Nice For What,” which samples “Ex-Factor.” “See this is ‘Ex-Factor’/He took the sample/My shit is classic/Here’s an example,” she rapped.

“Ex-Factor” was also recently sampled for “Be Careful” by Cardi B (who became the first female rapper to top the Billboard Hot 100 since… Lauryn Hill).

#HipHopNews: Nicki Minaj Reportedly Being Sued Over Boob T-Shirt Design

As Nicki Minaj prepares to release her second video for “Chun-Li” on Friday (May 4), she reportedly has some legal matters to tend to as well.

According to TMZ, the self-proclaimed Black Barbie is being sued by Isiah Simon, who’s accusing Minaj and Universal Music Group (UMG) of “brazenly” ripping off his inverted heart T-shirt design.

Minaj’s T-shirts say, “I Love Nicki,” but the upside-down heart intended to symbolize “love” looks like two breasts in a bikini. Simon, who says he’s the original creator of the design, uses it for his “I Love Venice Beach” merch.

In the suit, Simon explained he copyrighted the design on Valentine Day’s 2015. Simon is reportedly asking UMG to discontinue the shirts on its website and wants the profits from any shirts already sold.

How were you able to keep your composure?

We do that every day here. Every day there’s something different that we go back and forth about at TMZ, and shout-out to my brother Charlamagne the God who always tells me the way to make a point is to stay calm when everybody else is in their moment. Even when my voice is raised, I try to be measured and focused.

You look frustrated when Kanye was talking to you.

If you love hip-hop, if you love this culture, then there’s no possible way that you don’t have love for Kanye West, right? He’s really been one of the voices that has reshaped things for a lot of people. Meeting him and seeing him in here today, obviously there’s some sort of narrative or ministry that he’s trying to push, but it’s frustrating to see how in the world he fell so far in terms of relatability from where we are. It’s shocking. When he said some of the things he said, it was almost like looking at everything that I looked up to and had influenced me so much, and wondered, was it all bullshit? The interaction and the exchange I had with him was of genuine bewilderment and disappointment.

Was that the first time you met Kanye?

Never met him before.

You know the saying, “We should never meet our heroes.” Was that one of those moments for you?

It’s definitely that but at the same time, I want to try to understand where people are coming from, especially when they’ve earned that cachet. I was completely disappointed in him and I’m not sure he’s on the right path, as far as what he’s talking about. A lot of the things he’s saying are not only just wrong but also destructive, harmful, and dangerous, to be honest with you.

Yeah, like when he was agreeing with Candace Owens about black on black crime.

She said that I’m emotional. There’s a playbook that certain groups use, right? They say that our emotions make us weak, that our emotions are the things that are holding us back. Basically that marginalized people need to be more proactive and maybe less reactionary to things, I can give her that. But she starts screaming out facts like 90 percent of crimes committed against black people are by black people, and those are facts that people weaponize when they discuss what’s wrong with black people.

Paula Patton’s New Boyfriend Finally Gets Divorced After Wife Hinted He Cheated

Paula Patton is unfortunately caught up in the middle of a messy divorce and she wasn’t even married!

According to court records, Mia Quittman just filed for divorce from Zachary Quittman. Paula and Zach recently faced some backlash after going public with their relationship because it was revealed that he was still married.

Zach, who is a real estate agent, claimed that he was already separated with Mia before hooking up with Paula, but his estranged wife told Life & Style that the couple was not separated, and he still had his stuff at the marital home.

Kevin Hart was not just allegedly extorted by someone looking to make a quick buck, it was someone close to the comedian and he feels completely betrayed.Sources close to the “Jumanji” star tell us Jonathan Todd Jackson was deeply connected inside Hart’s entourage.  We’re told he wasn’t exactly a friend, but a close and trusted associate would best describe the relationship.

We’re told that when Hart’s legal team was first informed that Jackson was behind the scheme to bilk him out of millions of dollars, the comedian refused to believe that someone in his inner circle would go to such lengths to hurt him so deeply.

Hart wasn’t the only celebrity Jackson had access too, because the guy posted photos from a ton of Hollywood events with celebs like The Rock, Josh Hutcherson, Marlon Wayans and Shemar Moore.  He even once competed in a celebrity bowling event with a bunch of A-Listers.

Kevin Hart is obviously extremely upset about the news, saying “Mind blown…Hurt…at a lost for words and simply in complete disbelief at the moment. WOW”

As we reported, Jackson has been charged with one count each of attempted extortion and extortion by threatening letter.  He’s currently being held on $100,000 bail.

Icon Cicely Tyson Honored With Hand And Footprint Ceremony!

*The Hand & Footprint ceremony for actress and activist Cicely Tyson took place on Friday, April 27 at the TCL CHINESE THEATER IMAX. As part of the ninth annual TCM Classic Film Festival, the 1972 film “Sounder” Cicely Tyson starred in was screened with Tyson in attendance.

At 93 years old, it seems the reverence of Cicely Tyson and it was long overdue to have her hands and feet cemented outside the TCL Chinese Theatre along with other legendary stars.

Tyson said many years ago before becoming a well-known actress, she marveled at pictures of the hands and footprints of stars at the theatre.

“Never dreaming that one day I would be asked to do the same,” she said during her ceremony.

Cicely Tyson was very stylish and all smiles as her hands imprinted the cement during the ritual. She wore a blunt cut grey and black bob, along with a statement piece floral outfit and python pumps showcasing her ageless style. Miss Cicely Tyson who is the lone standing member of her family is not one to play it safe with her style at age 93 and looked absolutely fabulous.

Tyson is best known for her performances in “Roots” and the Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman and has worked in the industry for more than 60 years. She has received many accolades and nominations throughout her career, from being a Tony and Emmy Award winner to being nominated for an Oscar and a Golden Globe.TCM Classic Film Festival has paid homage to top performers in film for the past eight years. Some of the previous honorees include Peter O’Toole (2011), Kim Novak (2012), Jane Fonda (2013), Jerry Lewis (2014), and Christopher Plummer (2015.)

During the Tribute to Tyson by Tyler Perry, he recounts a funny story of being on set with Tyson. While shooting “Alex Cross,” where Cicely played his characters mother, the director asked her to grab Perry and spin him around. Perry says of the encounter:

“I’m thinking I’m 6’6 pure muscle. [Laughter] How is this little 5 foot something woman gonna grab me and spin me around?” Surprisingly Cicely didn’t have to wait for the director’s countdown to surprise Perry with her strength. “You have to be strong to be in this business over 60 years,” says Tyler Perry during his tribute.

For now, the new mom is nesting comfortably at Tristan’s lakeside Cleveland mansion where they have built an adorable nursery for baby True.

Aside from wishing her sister Kourtney a Happy Birthday on April 18, she has only posted one more time ever since True was born.

‘Avengers: Infinity War’ Races Across $800M At Global Box Office On Way To $1B Speed Record; Tops $500M International

More milestones have fallen with Disney/Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War crossing $800M globally on Tuesday. The total through yesterday is now $808.4M. What’s more, the heroes pounced past $500M at the international box office with $502.5M to date.

Domestic, as reported earlier, crossed $300M ($305.9M) in only five days to tie Star Wars: The Force Awakens as the fastest film to the threshold. As we noted yesterday (see below), Infinity War is due to set a new speed record to $1B worldwide, likely Friday or Saturday, beating TFA‘s 12-days to the benchmark. Both films will have reached the mark without China in the mix.

Yesterday’s May Day holiday in many overseas hubs helped IW crush a $64.5M Tuesday. That reps 20% of the opening weekend. (Force Awakens‘ first international Tuesday was worth 17% of its debut frame.)

Korea has rushed ahead of the UK as the current offshore leader with $48.7M. The UK through Tuesday is at $48.3M, followed by Mexico ($36.4M), Brazil ($28.4M) and India ($26M). That last market is just astounding — India is not a regular in the Top 5 on a Hollywood film.

In further achievements, yesterday saw Infinity War pass the global lifetimes of Spider-Man 2 ($784M), Deadpool ($783M), Guardians of the Galaxy ($773M), The Amazing Spider-Man ($758M), X-Men: Days of Future Past ($748M) and Suicide Squad ($747M).

Before Russia opens tomorrow, and ahead of China on May 11, Joe and Anthony Russo’s blockbuster is pacing 77% above Captain America: Civil War and 66% above Avengers: Age Of Ultron in like-for-like overseas markets.

The Two Black men arrested at Philadelphia Starbucks reach agreements with The City, and Coffee Company!

Two black men arrested for sitting at a Philadelphia Starbucks without ordering anything have reached an agreement with the city, which will pay them $1 each and set up a $200,000 program for young entrepreneurs at their request.

Separately, Rashon Nelson and Donte Robinson also reached an agreement with Starbucks that “will include a financial settlement as well as continued listening and dialogue between the parties,” the company said in a statement. The amount of the settlement was not disclosed.

The announcements, coming just two weeks after the incident, spare the city and coffee chain a protracted spotlight on an incident that stoked national outrage and debate about race, a change in local police policies, and boycotts and protests against a brand that’s become ubiquitous in cities around the world.

In their agreement with Philadelphia, Nelson and Robinson have released the city and its employees from “any and all claims,” city spokesman Mike Dunn said.

The two men also asked the city to create a program for Philadelphia public high school students with aspirations of becoming entrepreneurs. The city has agreed to fund a $200,000 grant for that program, Dunn said. Nelson and Robinson will not receive any of that money, he said.

Mayor Kenney lauded the program, saying pain from the incident would have resurfaced “over and over again” had litigation unfolded.

“Rather than spending time, money, and resources to engage in a potentially adversarial process, Rashon Nelson and Donte Robinson approached the city and invited us to partner with them in an attempt to make something positive come of this,” Kenney said in a statement. “This agreement is the result of those conversations, and I look forward to seeing the fruits of this effort in the coming months and years.”

Robinson told the Associated Press, “We thought long and hard about it, and we feel like this is the best way to see that change that we want to see.”

The two men’s Center City attorney, Stewart Cohen, did not return calls Wednesday seeking comment.

The arrests of Nelson and Robinson on April 12 sparked a nationwide outcry, days of protests in Philadelphia, and an apology from the city’s police commissioner. Starbucks CEO Kevin Johnson called the arrests “reprehensible,” and the coffee chain later announced it would be closing all its U.S. stores on the afternoon of May 29 to conduct training on racial bias.

Nelson and Robinson, 23-year-old entrepreneurs, were sitting in the Starbucks at 18th and Spruce Streets waiting for a business associate when the store manager called police. A video of the arrest went viral.
