The Daily Buzz For Feb 6 ☕📰☕

Aja Naomi King for Nylon - February 2019
For their February 2019 cover, Nylon magazine chose HTGAWM star Aja Naomi King. On the cover which was shot by Charlotte Prager and Dani Okon, Naomi is wearing a ALENA AKHMADULLINA SPRING 2019 dress and ROXANNE ASSOULIN earrings. In the issue, she talks about diversity in Hollywood, her HTGAWM cast, her new film, and more. Continue below to read some excepts from her interview and visit Nylon.com for more details. https://nylon.com/aja-naomi-king-nylon-february-2019-cover

On what she was thinking before she started in this industry:
Before I even started in this industry, I was just like, Oh man, if I could make it to be that white girl's best friend. If I could get there... That's where it started for me… to me that was a tremendous achievement. I never expected to lead a film. I didn't see enough of it to think it was possible.

On wanting to have a purpose:
I do try to amplify. That's the small part that I try to do—to get involved in whatever way I can and, at the very least, amplify.
On her character Ahmed in her new film 'A Girl from Mogadishu':
She is a light. I don't know how she does it. Everything is just so simple in her mind. She doesn't see problems, she only sees solutions. And she's always just—she's just a joy. She loves people, and she wants to do good, and I'll never forget, when I was in the beginning of doing this film, my life means nothing. If I can stop this from happening to one girl, then my life will mean something.

On her HTGAWM cast:
When I met the HTGAWM cast we all hit it off immediately. Over the years we’ve really grown as a family, and Aja has been integral to that growth. She remembers everyone’s birthdays, plans all of our cast outings, and is generally our number one cheerleader on set.

#SOTU2019: Stacey Abrams Of Georgia Delivered the response to The State of The Union Address: ‘Together, We Are Coming For America, For A Better America’!
WASHINGTON ― In the official Democratic response to President Donald Trump’s State of the Union address, former Georgia gubernatorial nominee Stacey Abrams delivered a passionate speech about the need for economic and social justice in America and said even though she disagrees with Trump on virtually everything, she still wants him to succeed.
“My reason for running for governor was simple: I love our country and its promise of opportunity for all,” Abrams said, beaming against the blurred backdrop of a group of men and women of different races. “I stand here tonight because I hold fast to my father’s credo: Together, we are coming for America, for a better America.”
Abrams, who is the first black woman to give a Democratic response to the State of the Union, denounced the president’s policies on immigration, LGBTQ rights, gun safety, education and health care. She didn’t need to name the president directly when she urged Americans to hold people “in the very highest offices” accountable for racism. But she did call Trump out directly for shutting down the government last month, making federal workers go without pay for weeks in his push for border wall money.

“Making their livelihoods a pawn for political games is a disgrace,” said Abrams. “The shutdown was a stunt engineered by the president of the United States, one that defied every tenet of fairness and abandoned not just our people but our values.”
Still, Abrams extended an olive branch to Trump, urging him to consider how much Democrats and Republicans can accomplish by working together.

“Even as I am very disappointed by the president’s approach to our problems, I still don’t want him to fail,” she said. “But we need him to tell the truth, and to respect his duties and the extraordinary diversity that defines America.”
Even as I am very disappointed by the president’s approach to our problems, I still don’t want him to fail.
Stacey Abrams
For all the potential of America, Abrams said, nothing is possible without “the bedrock guarantee” of people’s right to vote.
“Let’s be clear: Voter suppression is real,” she said. “From making it harder to register and stay on the rolls to moving and closing polling places to rejecting lawful ballots, we can no longer ignore these threats to democracy.”

The issue is personal for her. Abrams lost her governor’s race in November to Georgia Secretary of State Brian Kemp (R) amid allegations of voter suppression. Kemp refused to recuse himself as the state’s top election official in his own election, which many said was a conflict of interest. He also faced scrutiny after his office placed 53,000 voters’ registrations in suspense because their names didn’t exactly match a state record. Nearly 70 percent of the people on the list were black.
Abrams included a call to fight for voting rights in Tuesday night’s response and took a shot at Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), who recently called a group of proposed voting reforms in Democratic legislation a “power grab.”
“We must reject the cynicism that says allowing every eligible vote to be cast and counted is a ‘power grab,’” she said. “The foundation of our moral leadership around the globe is free and fair elections, where voters pick their leaders ― not where politicians pick their voters.”

Ultimately, Abrams said, the American promise stems from basic family values like the ones she grew up with as her family fluctuated between being lower middle class and working poor. She talked about her parents coming home from work “weary and bone-tired” but still showing her and her siblings all that they could be.

“Our power and strength as Americans lives in our hard work and our belief in more,” Abrams said. “My family understood firsthand that, while success is not guaranteed, we live in a nation where opportunity is possible.”

GREAT SPEECH MADAME ABRAMS!

#RHoA: Cynthia Bailey Is Trying The Keto Diet To get a little more 'Snatched' For Her Reunion Show
Is she newest keto dieter? Real Housewives of Atlanta star Cynthia Bailey. In a recent interview with Us Weekly, Cynthia, 51, revealed that she's gearing up for RHOA's season 11 reunion show with the diet. "I keep hearing about the keto diet," she said. "The reunion is coming up in three weeks, so I think I'm going to try it to get a little more snatched."

According to Cynthia, her former work as a model makes her extra-conscious about slimming down. "My historical modeling career has been called into question a little bit," she said. "So I gotta make sure these cheekbones are more sucked in." (Tbh, those cheekbones are still poppin', but to each her own.)
Cynthia's also trying to be more aware of what she drinks. "Honestly, what I've learned is that the most fattening thing is drinking, and I'm a cocktail girl," she told Us Weekly. "I think it's more fattening than food!"

That's why Cynthia may pre-game her upcoming reunion show with an alcohol detox. "When I'm not drinking that much, I'm not bloated," she said. "I eat pretty healthy, but I drink pretty bad. If I detox for a week from drinking, I actually just naturally slim down."

So what you think, Will she be ‘SNATCHED’ by the Reunion?

#Empire: Jussie Smollett told police attackers knew he was on ‘Empire’
CHICAGO (AP) — “Empire” actor Jussie Smollett told police that two men seemed to know who he was before they beat him, shouted racial and homophobic slurs, and looped a rope around his neck during an early-morning attack in Chicago, according to a recently released police report.

Smollett told police that two men dressed in black got his attention by mentioning the name of the TV show as he walked downtown early on Jan. 29. Smollett said the more aggressive man wore a black mask to conceal his face.
Smollett, who is black and openly gay, said the men then shouted slurs, beat him in the face with their hands and poured an unknown substance on him that stained his clothes. He said the men tied a rope around his neck before running away, according to a brief police report released to the public following a Freedom of Information request by media outlets.

The report noted that the 36-year-old actor said he initially didn’t want to report the attack, but that another person convinced him to do so. The name of the person who encouraged Smollet to call police was redacted in the report, which notes that the person was with Smollet when officers arrived at his Chicago apartment.
When officers arrived at his apartment, Smollett still had a white rope draped around his neck. The report also noted that officers turned off their body cameras at Smollett’s request, something that crime victims sometimes ask officers to do, according to Chicago police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi.

No arrests have been made but police continue to collect and review surveillance video from the area and look for possible witnesses, Guglielmi said Tuesday. He said police are also going to stores to ask employees if they recall selling rope to anyone and to determine if security camera footage shows someone buying the kind of rope that was tied noose-like around Smollet’s neck.
“We are starting to search stores to see if any of this kind of rope was purchased in the area,” Guglielmi said.
Smollett went to Northwestern Memorial Hospital after being advised to do so by the officers, according to the police report. Police said he was treated for scrapes and bruises and released.
Smollett took officers to the spot where he was attacked and told investigators he’d received hate mail a week earlier. Police have said the FBI was investigating the letter, which was sent to the studio in Chicago where “Empire” is filmed.

Guglielmi said officers don’t yet have video showing the attack and are continuing to search for two men who were walking in the area at around the time of the attack to question them about what they may have seen.

#NewMusic: Trey Songz and Chris Brown ‘Chi Chi’
Trey Songz and Chris Brown have released their latest pillow-biting collaboration titled “Chi Chi.”
The seductive track finds both R&B heartthrobs musing shamelessly about the sexual acts they want to perform with their tour groupies. Songz warns his baddie not to give him any lip when he goes deep, while Brown brags that his D is amazing.

Along with the sleazy audio, the Virginia boys treated fans to the accompanying visual. Surrounded by various women, Songz and Brown get their rocks off in a gold plated room as well as at the poolside and in a strip club.

Liam Neeson Says He's Not Racist, Explains Rage After Attack
NEW YORK (AP) — LIAM Neeson says violence breeds violence and bigotry breeds bigotry.
The 66-year-old actor appeared Tuesday on ABC's "Good Morning America," one day after he told an interviewer that he had violent thoughts about killing a black person after learning nearly 40 years ago that someone close to him had been raped.
Neeson says he had asked about the race of the attacker, along with other descriptive characteristics.

He says he had a "primal urge to lash out" before he was shocked by his reaction and sought help from a priest and friends.
Neeson says he's not a racist. The actor says we need to talk about these things because bigotry and racism exist.

Broadway's 'Hair' Live Musical Cancelled By NBC!
Hair will no longer become a live musical on NBC. Originally, producers announced that on May 19, 2019, NBC would put on a live musical along the same lines as past live musicals including Rent Live, which just aired last month on Fox, Hairspray Live on NBC, and more.

“Live musicals are a part of this network’s DNA and we are committed to continuing that tradition with the right show at the right time,” NBC Entertainment co-chairmen Paul Telegdy and George Cheeks said to Forbes. “Since these shows are such enormous undertakings, we need titles that have a wide appeal and we’re in the process of acquiring the rights to a couple of new shows that we’re really excited about.”

Sources told THR that the cancellation was perhaps because of the date – May 19. On May 19, ABC will be airing the season finale of American Idol, and HBO will be airing the series finale of Game of Thrones.
Hair was most recently produced on Broadway in 2009 with a cast led by Tony winner Gavin Creel and Will Swenson.

Are Singer Liam Payne & Iconic Model Naomi Campbell Dating?
Liam Payne and Naomi Campbell are rumored to be dating and the couple is not doing anything to stop those rumors. They’re actually fueling them thanks to their insistent Instagram commenting.
In January the two exchanged very flirty comments on one another’s Instagram posts. On a selfie that Campbell posted Payne wrote, “Perfection in a person 🌹… don’t give me those eyes,” followed by the eye emoji and kissy face emoji.

On a Payne’s sultry selfie Campbell commented, “Beautiful soul ❤️.” Payne responded to her, “Takes one to know one,” with the kissy face emoji.
Ever since then there have been rumors that the two are dating.
Now according to The Sun, the two have been dating secretly for two months. The rumored couple even rang in the New Year together in Ghana and have been secretly been going on dates.
They were spotted out at the Davido Adeleke concert at the O2 in London on January 28, but back then no one was aware that the two celebrities were linked together.

Campbell is 23 years older than Payne, but Payne definitely has a thing for older women. His last girlfriend and mother to his son, Cheryl Cole is 10 years older than him.
A source told The Sun, “Liam thinks she’s amazing and beautiful and has said their intimate time together have been mind-blowing. He seems really into her and acting like he can’t believe his luck.”

With their Instagram comment and public dates, it looks like these two are a real couple. Do you ship Payne and Campbell?

'Atlanta' Season 3 Delayed, May Not Return This Year!
Sorry Atlanta fans: it looks like the show may not be returning for its third season in 2019.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Donald Glover-led show has been delayed at FX. PR boss John Solberg confirmed that the show won’t be back for the 2019 Emmys cycle, after being renewed for its third season back in June.

While an official reason for the delay hasn’t been announced, FX chief John Landgraf said that Glover’s life has made things a bit difficult, and that they are choosing quality over quantity by releasing the show when the time is right.

"As you might imagine, Donald Glover is sort of the king of all media, and he just has had an incredibly complicated life,” he said. “He's had personal things he's had to deal with, from injuries to other things I'd rather not say publicly that just have to do not with his personal life but his extended family. So I think one of the things that is just a reality of television today is you have to wait.”

Glover has a busy touring schedule this year with performances at Coachella and Bonnaroo as his rap alter ego Childish Gambino. However, he’s attempting to take it easy otherwise. He reportedly won’t be attending this weekend’s Grammy Awards ceremony, where he is up for numerous awards.

Frank Ocean's Tumblr Rumored To Be Hacked After Post On SZA, Kendrick Lamar And Andre 3000
The rumor mill is churning with speculation thanks to Frank Ocean's latest Tumblr update. The Channel Orange artist is assumably teasing a collaboration with "Solana + KL + Andre," leading spectators to believe they'll receive a meeting of the minds on wax between SZA, Kendrick Lamar, and Andre 3000. Ocean then capped the oblique message with "Here for the beans." Additionally, March 1 is the release date for the "Pyramids" singer's supposed collabo, but another Tumblr post also hints at something to come as far as 2020.

While little to nothing is known about the "Novacane" singer's latest post, he's been on the music scene from a quick cover of SZA's "The Weekend" to having released his own projects like Blonde although that was three years ago. In November 2018, the acclaimed singer-songwriter teased a new melody on his Instagram account, leading supporters to believe that he's preparing to release another project pretty soon.

In an interview with GQ, the 31-year-old musician discussed how social media can help you steer your own narrative, no matter how much of a recluse you might appear to be to the outside world.
"With some pop stars, the idea of them is maybe more balanced or fully formed: a half-dozen magazine covers, x amount of interviews, a daily influx of media," he said. "There's a way you wanna be in the visual press, although you could potentially be misrepresented; when you're completely minimal with media, there's a lot of pressure on whatever one thing you're doing, the stakes are higher. Social media helps that, 'cause you're fully in control and can message that how you want."
UPDATE:
After the masses received news of this possible collaboration, others were quick to note that Frank Ocean's Tumblr was most likely hacked. A photo of Drake in blackface was also posted to the website, which raised red flags for spectators. An unidentified person is also claiming to have possession of unreleased songs from Ocean and will release them if an Instagram picture gets a certain amount of likes.

SAY WHAT? R. Kelly is going back on tour despite 'Surviving' backlash 👀👀
R. Kelly is heading out on tour overseas. The embattled singer revealed Tuesday he will be performing in Australia, New Zealand and Sri Lanka, although no dates have been announced. This will be the first tour for R. Kelly (né Robert Sylvester Kelly) since Lifetime’s explosive Surviving docuseries premiered last month.
Flamingo Dreamz, an event promotions company that worked with Ja Rule for his Australia and New Zealand shows, is behind the tour. Yahoo reached out for comment about the company’s decision to partner with R. Kelly but did not immediately receive a response.

In January, promoters planning R. Kelly’s tour in Australia and New Zealand claimed they pulled out of talks with his management team in the wake of the sexual misconduct allegations against the singer that resurfaced after Surviving R. Kelly debuted.
In a social media post, R. Kelly called the tour “fake,” telling fans “I am not involved in this tour, nor do I have knowledge of it, its promoters, etc.” The promoters hit back, suggesting the singer was playing off local promoters in a bid for higher fees.

“Big Music Tour can confirm contracts were in place with R. Kelly and his management for the Australian tour. We have been in discussion regarding the bizarre social media post denying the tour and had been working towards a resolution,” the promoters told the Sydney Morning Herald in a statement. “However, given the current situation in R. Kelly’s personal life and the controversy surrounding him, the promoters have decided not to move forward and are focusing on other events.”

R. Kelly’s announcement was met with criticism on social media.
Last month, Sony Music dropped the singer after the #MuteRKelly movement gained steam following the Lifetime series. Surviving R. Kelly detailed the singer’s alleged sexual misconduct over two decades with women and underage girls. An attorney for the disgraced musician has denied all claims.

#RHoA: So After Cynthia Bailey Tried To Get Kenya Moore Back On ‘RHoA’ and Miss NeNe Leakes Feels ‘Betrayed’?
What in the hell is wrong with NeNe? The Real Housewives of Atlanta star recently took to social media to call out a fake friend who was setting her up “for the kill.” Yikes! While fans and followers have been eager to figure out who NeNe was referencing, it looks like we may have our answer. According to Radar Online, a source close to the show can confirm that the backstabbing friend who NeNe can’t help but call out is none other than co-star Cynthia Bailey.

A RHoA source told Radar Online that NeNe was shocked to find out that Cynthia went straight to Bravo execs and “actively campaigned to get Kenya [Moore] back on the show.” Well then… sounds like a pretty pointed move to us. “NeNe feels totally betrayed by Cynthia,” the source explained. TBH, we get it. It wouldn’t be too fun to hear about one of your co-stars trying to ruin your gig. Plus, NeNe and Kenya aren’t each other’s biggest fans right now either. There are layers to this drama, guys!
NeNe apparently sent the tweet in question just after finding out about Cynthia’s shady move. “Have [you] ever had a close friend that was setting you up for the kill?” she wrote. “The gag is, you know it [though]! They however want EVERYBODY to think they are nice, pretty and supportive! But really they [are] insecure, not that pretty, not talented and certainly not nice! Their day is coming.”

Though initially fans and followers didn’t exactly know where NeNe was pointing her finger, it’s clear that she’s finally put a target on Cynthia’s back. It will definitely be interesting to see how things heat up between them in the future, but also if Kenya Moore will ever actually make a reappearance on RHOA for good. Imagine having those three women on the show together again? That might just be too much drama for one room!

#Empire Season 5 Recap Regaining Empire?
Lucious returns to the showcase and he is stunned. He wants to tell Cookie what’s happened but she tells him to wait until later because the show is almost over. The show is going wonderfully when Giselle shows up and says she is offering a co-partnership because she doesn’t trust Kingsley. “I’m also offering you the throne, with me as co-partner,” says Giselle. Cookie isn’t convinced. She would prefer to stick with their new business. Lucious is interested in his old baby, of course. He wants to reclaim the company they spent 20 years building.

Says Cookie, “We gotta choose between our future and our foundation?” She wants them to do it all be label and distributor for the artists. Lucious says they don’t have the bandwidth. Cookie then reaches into her designer purse and gives him a $5 million check from selling the condo. She’s ride-or-die. She sold her extra house. Lucious again tries to tell Cookie about the bonus child, Kingsley. Cookie says to wait until they get home, whatever it is. Lucious puts the condo check in his suit pocket.

So what happens next? Tune in March for the continuation of Season 5!

#Condolences: Trina Braxton's Ex-Husband Gabe Solis, Has Died After A Battle With Cancer at 43
Trina Braxton's ex-husband, Gabe Solis, has died after a battle with cancer ... Sources reveal Solis died Thursday in Texas, where he hails from, and we're told he was surrounded by friends and family.

Trina and Gabe wed in 2003 but divorced in 2015, and their on-again, off-again relationship was a frequent topic on the family's reality show -- "Braxton Family Values" -- even after they divorced.

The former couple also appeared on an episode of "Iyanla: Fix My Life" earlier this year -- more than 2 years after their split -- to hash out their issues and work on a plan to finally move on
In the episode, Gabe confronted Trina about her verbal abuse and bullying and let her know how it affected him during their marriage. Despite their rocky road ... the 2 remained close friends.

We're told Gabe's health issues were kept under wraps and his passing comes as a surprise to many close to the family.
Trina released a statement on her ex-husband's passing, saying ... "a chapter permanently closed for my sons and I. For over 16 years, Gabe Solis was an essential part of our lives."

She also apologized to friends and family who weren't aware of Gabe's situation and found out through the media ... specifically the Solis Family. Trina added ... "He was a father to my boys, a son, brother, and friend to many and I would appreciate privacy and respect as we grieve his unexpected departure."

He was 43.  RIP

Bravo’s Andy Cohen Is Expecting His First Baby Via Surrogate
Andy Cohen took a momentary break from all the drama on Watch What Happens Live to share some wonderful personal news: he is expecting his first child via surrogate in about six weeks! Cohen made the announcement in the most Bravo way possible — in front of Real Housewives Vicki Gunvalson, Ramona Singer, NeNe Leakes, Kyle Richards, and Teresa Giudice. The Bravo king wrapped up the final WWHL broadcast of 2018, which featured the OG cast members, by revealing the exciting news.

“I am so full of gratitude,” he started. “Tonight I want to share a little personal news of my own.” “I’ve always tried to be as transparent as possible about my life,” Cohen continued. “I over-share and I expect everyone around me to do the same. And tonight, I want you to be the first to know that after many years of careful deliberation, a fair amount of prayers and the benefit of science, if all goes according to plan, in about six weeks time, I’m going to become a father thanks to a wonderful surrogate who is carrying my future.” He added, “Family means everything to me and having one of my own is something I’ve wanted in my heart for my entire life, and though it has taken me longer than most to get there, I cannot wait for what I envision will be my most rewarding chapter yet.”

All our congrats to Cohen!

#BoxOfficeNews: Aquaman Drowns the Competition!
'Aquaman' DROWNS the competition with a $67.4 Million Debut!

The long Christmas weekend is underway. Performing almost exactly as expected, WB's release of Aquaman easily took the #1 spot at the weekend box office with an estimated $67.4 million over the course of the three-day weekend and a cume that now stands at $72.1 million once you include the $4.7 million in grosses from pre-weekend Amazon Prime showings. The film is now expected to deliver around $105 million over the course of its first five days, which ends on Christmas Day, routinely the busiest day at the box office all year. The film received an "A-" CinemaScore from opening day audiences and played to an opening weekend crowd that was 55% male and 58% aged 25 years or older.

Overall, the performance ranks as one of the top ten December openings of all-time, though it is sixth largest debut within WB's DC Extended Universe. That last note, however, will be an interesting stat to watch as Aquaman has enjoyed some of the best reviews of the franchise and audiences seem to be enjoying it to the tune of an 86% audience rating on RottenTomatoes.

Worldwide, the film is the #1 release at the global box office for the third week in a row, bringing in another $91.3 million overseas this weekend from 70 markets for an international cume that now stands at $410.7 million and a global tally totaling $482.8 million. Comparing to all overseas markets in release, WB reports Aquaman is tracking as the highest grossing film in the DC Universe (+22% higher than Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, +52% higher than Justice League and +86% ahead of Wonder Woman). The film's top market remains China with an impressive $232.8 million, which ranks as the seventh highest grossing imported title in the market all-time. The film also debuted in South Korea this weekend with $9.9 million along with openings in France ($6.2m), Germany ($4.2m), Spain ($2.8m) and Hong Kong ($2.7m). The film will open in Australia on December 26 followed by openings in Italy (Jan 1) and Japan (Feb 8).

Disney's Mary Poppins landed in second position for the three-day after opening on Wednesday. The film brought in an estimated $22.2 million over Friday-Sunday frame for a $31 million five-day cume. This is mostly what was expected heading into the weekend and while this may seem like a light performance this is a film that should play well throughout the holidays and into the new year. The film received strong reviews prior to opening — 65 on Metacritic 77% on RottenTomatoes — to go along with an "A-" CinemaScore from opening day crowds. Poppins's audience was 59% female with 61% of the opening weekend crowd coming in aged 25 years or older.

Internationally, Mary Poppins Returns delivered an estimated $20.3 million from its first 17 markets, including a #1 start in the UK with an estimated $9.4 million. Additional openings include Italy ($2.8m), France ($2m), Germany ($1.9m) and Spain ($1.4m). The film expands further next weekend, debuting in Mexico, Denmark, Finland, Norway and many more with early January openings set for Australia and Russia and February debuts set for Japan and South Korea.

Paramount's release of Bumblebee, the sixth film in the Transformers franchise, landed in third with an estimated $21 million as it too plays to expectations and should also enjoy a lengthy box office run thanks to strong reviews and an "A-" CinemaScore from opening day audiences. That being said, the only real question with this film, as well as Aquaman and Sony Animation's Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, is just how well all these films can play alongside one another and not cannibalize each other's potential box office as they play, mostly, to the same crowd. For now we're looking for Bumblebee to deliver a $32+ million five-day start.

Rihanna Confirms Her New Album Will Be Out in 2019
Rihanna attends her 4th Annual Diamond Ball at Cipriani Wall Street on Sept. 13, 2018 in New York City.

It's been almost three years since Rihanna fans have been graced with an album by the singer, and it looks as though the wait for a follow-up to Anti may soon be over.

On Friday (Dec. 21) she responded to a fan who commented on an Instagram post of a new Fenty product asking "But when is the album dropping Robyn? Can we have a release date for that?" with a simple "2019."
Her vocal producer Kuk Harrell teased the new album earlier this week, promising it's "incredible" and "amazing" before adding that "that's all I'm going to say."

8-year-old Congolese boy dies after undergoing surgery in Los Angeles to remove facial tumor
LOS ANGELES-- An 8-year-old boy who came to Los Angeles to have a massive tumor removed from his face died Friday night due to a rare genetic reaction to anesthesia, the Dikembe Mutombo Foundation said.

The foundation, which was created by retired NBA star Dikembe Mutombo, announced the news in an email Saturday morning.

Matadi Sela Petit arrived in Los Angeles with his father on Dec. 12 to undergo surgery to remove the growth from his face. The foundation and several other partners had sponsored the boy, who was born in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Before coming to the U.S., Matadi also had a cleft lip that was treated with help from the foundation.

During the surgery to remove the tumor, Matadi suffered a rare genetic reaction to the anesthesia. Despite the efforts of medical professionals, the boy never recovered and died.
"We are devastated by the loss of Matadi and our hearts go out to his father, his mother and the rest of his family, and all his old and new friends," the foundation said.

#govtshutdown US Senate adjourns through Christmas with government partially shut down
It's official: The government will be partially shut down through Christmas. Washington remains deeply divided and nowhere near a resolution of the shutdown that began early Saturday morning, with all sides now anticipating the impasse will continue into the first weeks of January.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell announced shortly after 3 p.m. Saturday that there is no deal, and the Senate is adjourned until Thursday, Dec. 27. The White House and Capitol Hill have made little progress towards finding a compromise -- President Trump is demanding $5 billion for his border wall, and Democrats insist they won't give him any of that funding. The government partially shut down at midnight Friday.

Mr. Trump will remain in town for Christmas. He was supposed to go to his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida.

The partial shutdown won't have much of an effect on holiday plans. The post office will stay open, so gift and holiday card stragglers can still put them in the mail. Transportation Security Administration (TSA) agents will still work, and air travel would continue virtually unaffected.

Government employees who are considered "essential," such as many Secret Service agents, Customs and Border Patrol agents and U.S. troops deployed at the border, will still be working. But a shutdown creates a risk for hundreds of thousands of federal workers: More than 420,000 federal employees would have to go to work without pay. More than 380,000 will be furloughed. Those who work will get paid eventually - and those furloughed likely will - but depending how long the shutdown lasts, they could miss a paycheck.

Funding that expired at midnight Saturday covers the Department of Homeland Security, the Justice Department, the State Department, the Interior Department, the Departure of Agriculture and the Department of Housing and Urban Development, among other federal entities.

Wendy Williams Apologizes After Slurring Speech On-Air
Wendy Williams has apologized after fans noticed some odd behavior Thursday on The Wendy Williams Show. Williams appeared to be slurring her words, prompting concern about her health. She later took to social media to apologize, saying the slurring could be attributed to pain medication she’s been taking for a fractured shoulder, as well as her thyroid condition.

To My Wendy Watchers, I sincerely apologize if you feel that today's show was less than stellar. I’m on your TV screens every day wanting to spread laughter, entertainment and cheer. As I reported earlier in the week, I have a hairline fracture on my upper arm, which hurts like hell. I’ve never broken a bone or experienced a fracture in my life. In the key place where the fracture is, and trying to scurry around and do too much, I am now paying the price. I've never taken a pain medication in my life (except when I got snatched over 20 years ago) until this week. I did that to power through and try to deliver a great show for you, against the better judgement of the many people around me who genuinely care for my well-being. I really do ride or die for my craft and give 200%. Not to mention everyone is aware at this point about my thyroid condition (don’t cry for me Argentina). For all my fellow thyroid sufferers, you know what the deal is. And for those that don’t: I encourage you to please read up. Needless to say, whatever today's performance was with the legendary The Lox, who said such nice things, I have no regrets and I appreciate everyone’s genuine concern for my wellness and care. I promise you a better Wendy in 2019. I will get some much needed rest and healing over these next couple of weeks. (Yes I am definitely juicing over the next couple of weeks). Sorry again. I love you all. Happy Holidays!

Williams’ health has prompted concern in the past. Earlier this year, her The Wendy Williams Show went on a three-week hiatus for Williams to focus on her health after she was diagnosed with Graves disease. She also had fainted on-air during her show’s Halloween episode on October 31. Williams said she became dehydrated and overheated because of the heavy Halloween costume she was wearing.

Referee Alan Maloney has a Racist History before he made HS Wrestler Cut Dreadlocks Before Match
Referee Alan Maloney told high school wrestler Andrew Johnson to cut off his dreadlocks before a match, but this isn't the first incident Maloney's had with racism.
During a high school wrestling match in New Jersey, a white referee stopped a young wrestler, Andrew Johnson of Buena High School, with a particularly fucked-up demand, telling Johnson to cut off his dreadlocks before starting his match.

According to Mike Frankel of South Jersey News, referee Alan Maloney refused to let Johnson wear a cap to cover his dreadlocks as provided by state rules, and as other wrestlers with long hair have. Johnson was left with the choice of either forfeiting the match, or cutting his hair. Johnson chose the latter and a trainer took a pair of scissors to his hair.
Despite the traumatic start to his match, Johnson pulled out an overtime victory and Buena won the match.
(This, by the way, is not the "epitome of a team player", this is the epitome of racism. Johnson is visibly upset after the win and barely wants to touch the ref's hand as he's declared the winner.)

New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association (NJSIAA) rules state "an assigned official will check each wrestler for proper hair grooming, facial hair and fingernail length" for safety on the mat. However, there are also rules specifying that wrestlers are permitted to use a "legal hair cover." For whatever reason, Maloney did not afford Johnson this option.
But, again, this wasn't the first time Maloney has been accused of racism. In late March of 2016, Maloney was at a post-wrestling-tournament party with other league officials and allegedly used a racial slur in a comment about homemade wine. Another official at the party slammed Maloney to the ground for using the slur, and they were both nearly suspended for the incident, but since it happened off the clock, nothing ever came of it.

At the time, Maloney said, per NJ.com: “It was two men, a group of guys, having fun and it was just a slip-up. If you can’t see past that, then I don’t know what to say. I made a mistake and I apologized for it. And it was accepted.”

Maloney might have gotten lucky by shrugging and sweeping this first incident under the rug, but given the national attention this story has already received, this one probably won't slip by so easily.

Nicki Minaj's New Boyfriend Gets Massive Tattoo Of Her Name: See The Ink
Nicki Minaj's new boyfriend, Kenneth "Zoo" Petty, is getting a lot of negative press for his troubled past, but the Young Money MC seems determined to push all the controversy to the side.

On Friday (December 21), Minaj took to Instagram to share a video of her man's first and only tattoo. It's a massive ode to the rapper's birth name, Onika, but his selection makes sense. After all, these two have known each other prior to her superstar fame. "Did ya tat hurt zaddy? his first tat - frontin like it didn't sting #Onika #HeavyOnIt #SuperSleezy," she captioned the clip.
Petty's big ink reveal comes after a string of controversial stories, including reports that he's a registered sex offender in New York, accused of using a "knife/cutting instrument (e.g. ax, ice pick, screwdriver, switchblade, Kung Fu stars, cane sword, etc.)" during an attempted rape and that's just the tip of the iceberg. Despite his reported 12 arrests, Minaj has come to his defense and recently pointed her target at TMZ. "Y'all can post these 'til ur blue in the face. No one on God's earth is perfect. Oh, I forgot - y'all have never sinned; nor have your loved ones. Heard you," she previously wrote on her Instagram Story.

As you already know, Minaj went public with her new relationship in mid-December and was instantly hit with criticism of her 40-year-old beau, who she's reportedly known since high school.

She’s another Hidden Figure! Dr. Gladys West, The Black Woman Who Invented The GPS, Gets Honored By U.S. Air Force At The Pentagon
Did you know that a black woman from Virginia was instrumental in creating a convenience we use every day and almost can’t live without? Yes indeed, Dr. Gladys West invented the GPS or the Global Positioning System and has finally received the recognition she deserves by being inducted into the Air Force Space and Missile Pioneers Hall of Fame by the United States Air Force during a ceremony held at the Pentagon this week.

The 87-year-old scholar knew as a child that she did not want to work in fields, picking tobacco, corn, and cotton or in a factory, beating tobacco leaves for cigarettes and pipes like her parents did. She said, “I realized I had to get an education to get out.” And that she did, studying math at #VirginiaState and graduating top of her class. She became a teacher for two years, then went back to school for her Masters.

In 1956, West began to work at Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division, where she was the second black woman ever to be employed. There, she collected data from satellites, and that job is what eventually led to the development of the Global Positioning System. In 1986, West published “Data Processing System Specifications for the Geosat Satellite Radar Altimeter,” a 60-page illustrated guide, which was based off data created from the radio altimeter on the Geosat satellite, which went into orbit on March 12, 1984. She worked at Dahlgren for 42 years and retired in 1998.

West’s humble character is part of why many people were unaware of her role in the development of the device for decades. She said, “When you’re working every day, you’re not thinking, ‘What impact is this going to have on the world?’ You’re thinking, ‘I’ve got to get this right.’”

In 2017, Capt. Godfrey Weekes, the then-commanding officer at the Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division, described the “integral role” West played in a Black History Month message. He wrote, “She rose through the ranks, worked on the satellite geodesy [science that measures the size and shape of Earth] and contributed to the accuracy of GPS and the measurement of satellite data. As Gladys West started her career as a mathematician at Dahlgren in 1956, she likely had no idea that her work would impact the world for decades to come.”

Congratulations to a “hidden figure,” Dr. Gladys West! Thank you for your great contribution to science and your #BlackGirlMagic ✨

OH WOW! Travis Scott in 2014 did an Interview Where He Said Mike Brown “Deserved To Pay For Consequences He Probably Inflicted” And Discussed “The Problem With Black People”
Thanks Baller Alert! It’s been a great year for Houston rapper  Travis Scott, and from his humble beginnings, he sure has come a long way. But the internet (specifically Twitter) has a way of reminding people of their past and recently, social media dug up a 2014 Hot97 interview with Scott, in which he discussed his views on the Mike Brown situation and black people in general.

During the interview, radio host Ebro asked Scott how he felt about Ferguson and how hip-hop effects the youth culture. Scott replied, “I’m kind of angry, so many black people are acting like fake activists…I’m not saying he deserved to get killed. But I’m not saying that he didn’t deserve to pay for consequences he probably inflicted.” He then goes on to talk about “the problem with black people” being that there always has to be a disruption when something like the Ferguson situation happens. He said, “And I know we’re like ‘fed up’ quote/un-quote, with whatever is going on in culture…but at the same time, you gotta just stop putting yourself in positions where you’re continuously having this situation go down.”

As the conversation continued, Travis also spoke about the influence hip-hop artists have on kids and how Kanye West has helped try to “tailor” Black people. He said artist similar to himself, naming Kid Cudi, Tyler The Creator and Young Thug, use their music and visuals to teach the younger generation, unlike some unnamed older artists who “front” and use kids as profits to “fund their lives.” In regards to Kanye, Scott said, “Let’s get people out of baggy pants and put them in fitted clothes…let’s tailor black people up, so we don’t look all hood.”

Does it make sense now as to why Trav agreed to perform at the Super Bowl Halftime Show? Maybe he just isn’t as down with the movement as his fellow hip-hop artists assumed when it comes to standing up for a black cause? What do you guys think of this interview?

Just Tragic! Young Texas Mother Killed In Car Crash By 19-Year-Old Drunk Driver Who Was Served 12 Drinks At A Bar Prior To Crash
A Texas family will be planning a funeral instead of celebrating the upcoming Christmas holiday. 23-year-old Taylor Phillips was killed by 19-year-old drunk driver, Erick Hernandez, after he allegedly crossed three lanes of traffic before the crashing into her SUV, which was also carrying her mother and one-year-old son, Mason.

Prosecutors say a video from inside a bar showed Hernandez consuming 12 alcoholic beverages, including three tequila shots, over the course of 6 hours and was alleged never asked for identification despite being under the legal drinking age.

A total of 5 bar employees, four bartenders, and one manager were arrested for serving the teen alcohol, and court documents show the bar did not have a liquor license and was only allowed to serve beer and wine.
Sean Teare, Chief of the Vehicular Crimes Division in the Harris County District Attorney’s Office said, “Literally one minute after he left (the bar), he took the life of Ms. Phillips. Right now there are Christmas presents under a tree for a mother who will never open them, a child who will never know his mother because of the irresponsible actions of all six individuals charged in this tragedy.”

Carmen Rainer, Phillip’s Mother, told ABC13, her, her daughter and grandson were on their way back after a weekend of visiting family in New Orleans and were five minutes away from home when the crash happened.

She said, “The drunk driver came out of nowhere. We didn’t see him until he was right up on us…I was out for a minute, but the baby crying woke me up. I saw smoke and tried to get out of my seatbelt and open the door. I tried to get my grandson out. He was stuck under her, and I couldn’t get him out. People weren’t stopping to help. I had to go into the street to wave my arms because they wouldn’t stop. It took three men to get Mason from under her. His leg was stuck under her. I had to move her, and that’s when I realized she was gone.”

Hernandez has been charged with intoxication manslaughter but is currently out on $30,000 bond. A GoFundMe fund has been started to help support Mason, and it has raised more than $3,700 of its $5,000 goal so far.
