#RHOP: Wendy Osefo On Karen Huger’s Future She Should Be Given The Opportunity To Tell Her Own Story”
Wendy Osefo is open to having Karen Huger return to The Real Housewives of Potomac, following her release from jail.
Season 9 of the Bravo reality series premiered, and the absence of Huger is very apparent, having been one of the pillars of the show since its start in 2016.

Huger had been serving time in jail following her DUI conviction and was not able to film for the new season with the rest of the cast. However, the premiere episode showed her release from jail earlier this year, which teased viewers that they would potentially get Huger’s side of the story.

“I have not spoken to her since her release,” she said. “However, I feel like everybody should be given the opportunity to have a platform to tell their own story. There’s no point or purpose in your story being told by others.”
Osefo joined RHOP in Season 5 and has since become one of the mainstays of the cast. In our interview with Osefo, she teased that viewers would be able to “delve deeper” into her career changes as well as how she helps her husband with his cannabis business.

“Eddie being able to navigate that naturally puts pressure on our family because we have 3 kids at home and he has to attend different events,” she teased.
She continued, “This season, I get to reconnect with someone from my past and that reconnection not only has an impact on me, but has an impact on others around me, who I love and that’s something that was hard for me. I had to really let go [and] put my guards down around trying to protect my emotions. I’m really looking forward to the audience being able to see the growth I have, both professionally as well as personally.”

The Real Housewives of Potomac airs Sundays at 8 p.m. ET on Bravo and is available on-demand the next day on Peacock.

#NewMusic from R&B Group Sentury “Forever”

The R&B group Sentury, fresh off their #1 Billboard hit “Only Human,” has released a new single titled “Forever”. The song, which is a “timeless love anthem,” has become the second most-added song on R&B radio this week.

“Forever” highlights the quartet’s harmonies and reinforces their position as the “new kings of ‘Grown Man R&B'”. The lyrics focus on themes of enduring love and commitment, with lines like “I’ll cry for you, lady // I’ll die for you, sweetheart”.

LISTEN HERE:

The group’s previous single, a reimagining of Jeffrey Osborne’s “Only Human,” topped Billboard’s Adult R&B chart at #1 and was praised by the original’s producer and co-writer, Barry Eastman. Sentury has had nine total appearances on the Billboard charts and recently performed at the Essence Festival.

#HipHopNews: Verzuz Announces Return With Epic Cash Money Vs. No Limit Battle
Swizz Beatz and Timbaland‘s Verzuz battle series is finally set to return this month — and there’s a heavyweight clash on the cards.
The legendary producers announced on Tuesday that Verzuz will make its comeback on October 25 at ComplexCon in Las Vegas, where fans will get to see Cash Money Records face off against No Limit Records.

“IT’S OFFICIAL. Verzuz is BACK — live at #ComplexCon Las Vegas. Cash Money VERZUZ No Limit Celebration,” read the official announcement on social media.

“One stage. Two legendary iconic Labels . History is about to be made !! October 25. Live Streaming details coming soon !!!!!! Stay tuned for more info.”
It’s currently unclear who exactly will be gracing the stage for this showdown between the two iconics Southern rap labels, who together have produced numerous superstars, made countless classic records and sold a shit ton of albums.

Birdman and Slim’s Cash Money empire is, of course, responsible for the success of Lil Wayne, Drake, Nicki Minaj, Juvenile, B.G., Mannie Fresh and Tyga, to name just a few.
The house that Master P built, meanwhile, turned the likes of Mystikal, Silkk The Shocker, Mia X, C-Murda, TRU and Soulja Slim into cult stars.
Snoop Dogg also spent a few years on the powerhouse label in the late ’90s following his departure from Death Row, dropping hits like “Down For My N’s,” “Bitch Please” and “Lay Low.”

Cash Money vs. No Limit will mark the first Verzuz battle in over three years, with the last showdown taking place in June 2022 between Omarion and Mario.
A planned third season of the series was delayed after a legal battle broke out between Swizz Beatz and Timbaland and Triller over the 2021 sale of Verzuz to the streaming service.
Swizz and Tim sued Triller for $28 million in August 2022, accusing the company of failing to make agreed-upon payments to the two producers.

The suit was settled for an undisclosed sum the following month, with the deal reportedly “increasing the ownership stake given to the artists that Timbaland and Swizz Beatz brought to Triller as part of the original [sale].”

#RIP: Sister Jean, beloved Loyola-Chicago chaplain, dies at 106

Sister Jean Dolores Schmidt, the beloved, longtime chaplain of the Loyola-Chicago men's basketball team who became a folk hero during its Cinderella run to the Final Four in 2018, died Thursday, the school said.

She was 106. "In many roles at Loyola over the course of more than 60 years, Sister Jean was an invaluable source of wisdom and grace for generations of students, faculty, and staff," Loyola president Mark C. Reed said. "While we feel grief and a sense of loss, there is great joy in her legacy. Her presence was a profound blessing for our entire community, and her spirit abides in thousands of lives. In her honor, we can aspire to share with others the love and compassion Sister Jean shared with us."

Sister Jean -- born Dolores Bertha Schmidt on Aug. 21, 1919, then taking the name Sister Jean Dolores in 1937 -- joined the staff at Loyola-Chicago in 1991. Three years later, she became part of the basketball team, first as an academic adviser before transitioning to chaplain. Health issues caused her to step down from her role in August.

She was the Ramblers' No. 1 fan, and that was on display during the 2018 NCAA tournament when, as the No. 11 seeds, they went on an improbable run to the Final Four, ultimately losing to Michigan. Sister Jean, 98 at the time, was with them every step of the way, praying for the team -- and its opponents -- before each game and encouraging the Ramblers to play hard, play together and play smart.

And if they lost? She told them regularly not to sweat it; it just wasn't meant to be.
"She's an incredible person," star Loyola-Chicago guard Clayton Custer said at the time.
Fans throughout college basketball, and beyond, agreed.

She became an international celebrity during the Ramblers' run. Sister Jean bobbleheads and athletic apparel sold fast. She was the subject of countless national TV interviews. And there were even news conferences for her ahead of games. During the loss to Michigan at the Alamodome in San Antonio, T-shirts read "Win One for the Nun!" and a sign in the crowd encouraged the Wolverines to give obedience to "Jean's Plan."

Her fame didn't wane in the years to come.
When she turned 100, Loyola-Chicago announced a scholarship fund and endowment in her honor to support students, and Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker proclaimed Aug. 21, 2019, "Sister Jean Day" across the state. When she turned 103, the Chicago train station plaza at the Loyola campus was renamed in her honor, with a large sign that read "Home of the World Famous Sister Jean!" to greet visitors there. And when she turned 105, she received a proclamation from President Joe Biden -- who sent her flowers on at least one previous occasion.

Biden's message, in part, told Sister Jean: "You have shown us all that yours is a life well lived."
She remained close to the team, as well.
When Loyola-Chicago qualified for the NCAA tournament in 2021, a vaccinated Sister Jean was cleared to travel to Indianapolis, and before the Ramblers' second-round game against top-seeded Illinois, she gave them a prayer and a scouting report.
"We have a great opportunity to convert rebounds as this team makes about 50% of layups and 30% of its 3 [pointers]. Our defense can take care of that," she told the team.

It worked, as Loyola-Chicago upset the Illini to reach the Sweet 16.
"She still sends me an email after every single game," former Loyola-Chicago coach Porter Moser once said. "There is no human like her."
Born in San Francisco in 1919, Sister Jean grew up in a devoutly Catholic family. Her religious calling, she said, came at the age of 8. She was in third grade when she met a kind, joyful teacher who belonged to the Sisters of Charity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Brimming with admiration, she would pray every day: "Dear God, help me understand what I should do, but please tell me I should become a BVM sister," she recounted in her 2023 memoir.

"I guess God listened to me on that one," she wrote.
She followed her calling to the order's motherhouse in Dubuque, Iowa, where she made her vows. She went on to teach at Catholic schools in Chicago and Southern California, where she also coached girls' basketball, before she ended at Mundelein College -- on the Chicago lakefront -- in the 1960s. The school became affiliated with Loyola in 1991, and Sister Jean was hired to help students with the transition.

In 1994, she was asked to help student basketball players boost their grades -- "the booster shooter" she called herself -- and later that year, she was named chaplain of the men's team. The role, she wrote in her memoir, became "the most transformational and transcendent position" of her life.
"Sports are very important because they help develop life skills," she said. "And during those life skills, you're also talking about faith and purpose."
The university said Sister Jean is survived by her sister-in-law, Jeanne Tidwell, and her niece, Jan Schmidt.

Rest In Peace Sister Jean

Chandler Moore & Naomi Raine Announce Exit From Maverick City Music: ‘God’s Not Done Yet’

Two of Grammy-winning worship collective Maverick City Music‘s members, Chandler Moore and Naomi Raine, have announced their departures from the group.

On Monday (Oct. 6), both artists released statements on social media, revealing their decisions to exit the group. Each artist also emphasized that they will continue to make music outside of Maverick City Music.

“These last two years I’ve been locked in on what really matters…in my life and my career,” Moore wrote on social media. “It’s been scary at times, but it’s also been full of fresh vision and real excitement about the future. With that, I’ve made the bittersweet decision to end my relationship with Maverick City Music. When we started Mav, I was grateful to have community and belonging while fulfilling my dream of making music that would help people experience God. And we did that…in ways I couldn’t have imagined.”

Moore also thanked several people who have been essential to the group’s mission. “This transition isn’t easy. Maverick is something I poured my heart into, so it’s almost like saying goodbye to your own kid.” He later added, “My dream hasn’t changed. I’m stepping into this next phase ready to share my story and make music that helps people feel a little more human, a little more understood, and a little less alone.”

Raine wrote on social media, “After a lot of prayer and consideration, I’ve decided that now is the best time to share that I am no longer a part of Maverick City Music. Being a part of Mav truly changed my life! What started as a group of folks singing in a shed has turned into something I could’ve never even imagined!…And now I believe God has given me the green light to step into what He’s calling me to do individually. Still writing. Still singing. Still worshipping and leading others in worship – just on my own…this isn’t really an ending, but a new beginning. A new chapter. I’m excited about the music, the ministry, and the purpose ahead. God’s not done yet.”

Maverick City Music was founded in 2018, and has won five Grammy Awards. The group is known for Billboard Christian and/or Gospel chart-topping hits including “Promises” and “Jireh.” The group’s albums Old Church Basement (with Elevation Worship) and The Maverick Way Complete: Complete Vol. 2 both reached the top spot on Billboard‘s Top Christian Albums and Top Gospel Albums charts.

Moore also released the solo project Feelings in 2020, and most recently the project Chandler Moore: Live in Los Angeles last year. Raine has released projects including two-part project Back to Eden, the 2022 album The Journey and the 2025 album Jesus Over Everything (Live in Las Vegas).

KISS legend Gene Simmons recovering after SUV crash on PCH in Malibu
Rock legend Gene Simmons is recovering at home after he was involved in a crash Tuesday afternoon on Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu.
The crash was reported just before 1 p.m. in the 25000 block of Pacific Coast Highway. The KISS bassist and vocalist's Lincoln Navigator crashed into a parked car, the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department told NBC4 Investigates.

A witness called 911 and deputies and firefighters responded to the scene.
Simmons, 76, was speaking with first responders, authorities said. He told deputies he passed out or fainted, then hit the parked car, the sheriff's department said.

He was hospitalized to be checked out.Wife Shannon Tweed told NBC4 Investigates that Simmons is recovering at home. She said doctors recently changed his medications and that he needs to drink more water -- something of which he's not a fan.
She said his SUV careened across several lanes of traffic in the crash and that he passed out.

In a voicemail message to NBC4 Investigates, Simmons said he is doing fine.

Offset Admits He Should Have Respected Cardi B More

Offset laid bare the truth behind his split from Cardi B during a revealing conversation on Baby, This is Keke Palmer, admitting that his own actions—including cheating—led to the unraveling of their high-profile marriage.
“I should’ve respected her way more, you know what I mean? I made bad decisions as a man, like stepping out,” the Migos rapper said during Tuesday’s episode. The 33-year-old, born Kiari Cephus, didn’t dodge accountability, acknowledging his role in the breakdown of the relationship.

“I was definitely not perfect in the situation,” he said. “I made a lot of mistakes. (There’s) a lot of things that I did wrong. She did things that was wrong.”
The couple, who share three children—Kulture, 7, Wave, 4, and Blossom, 13 months—had been married for seven years before Cardi filed for divorce in July 2024. Offset admitted his infidelity was the final straw.
“That’s why when she left, I had to take that on the chin,” he said. “I was being selfish, you know what I mean? And I can say that as a man. I’m a grown man.”

Despite the split, Offset emphasized the importance of keeping things civil for the sake of their children, saying they have “kids to live for.”
Cardi, who is now expecting her first child with NFL star Stefon Diggs, opened up about her side of the breakup in a separate interview released Monday.
Speaking with Jay Shetty on his “On Purpose” podcast, the 32-year-old artist said she had emotionally checked out of the relationship long before the legal paperwork was filed. “I felt the love dying,” she said. “From my end, from his end… I was very lonely because I chose to be lonely.”

Karrueche Tran supports Deion Sanders during surgery amid romance rumors
The post Karrueche Tran supports Deion Sanders during surgery amid romance rumors appeared first on ClutchPoints.
Karrueche Tran and Deion Sanders are not beating the romance allegations now that the actress has yet again supported the Colorado football coach during another health crisis.

Coach Prime announced on Tuesday that he would be undergoing a blood clot procedure.
“I am having a procedure today,” Sanders said Tuesday, per Buffalo Stampede. “Prayerfully I’ll be right back at practice tomorrow. It is what it is. Found what we found. I have a wonderful team of doctors at UC Health and a team of wonderful trainers here. It has nothing to do with me working at the level and competing … it is hereditary. It is what it is. I trust God with all my heart.”

A vlog posted to YouTube on Oct. 7, showed Tran helping Sanders into his hospital gown, and he then proceeded to FaceTime one of his sons, Cleveland Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders. Coach Prime mocked the crying Tran did in the last video where she sat beside him during his bladder removal surgery in which she just smiled at his impression of her.

According to the recent vlog, which is documented by his son Deion Sanders Jr. and his media company, Well Off Media, this is the two-time Super Bowl champion’s 16th surgery in recent years.
The rumored couple was first spotted back in February holding hands in Los Angeles but it wasn’t until his bladder removal surgery that fans really suspected that the two might be an item. However, despite Tran supporting Sanders at his bedside, the two have not confirmed a romance between the two.

There have been a couple of hints such as the Claws actress saying she likes “older men” to TMZ last month and Sanders commenting on a photo of Tran accepting an award.
Whether there is anything going on between Tran and Sanders officially fans might never know but since Coach Prime announced he was cancer-free, he has been sharing how his healing journey has been going.

“Now I got different battles. I’m not just battling the football team across from me. I’m battling peeing every night,” he said on Good Morning America Oct. 7, adding that he “depends on Depends,” a brand that he is now partnered with.
However, since the recent surgery, Sanders is back at practice and is gearing up for Colorado’s next game which is against Iowa State on Saturday, Oct. 11.

Singer & Actress Andra Day Says Manager Of 14 Years Stole $1.6 Million

Singer #AndraDay has filed a countersuit against her former manager, Jeff Evans, alleging he embezzled at least $1.6 million from her over the course of their 14-year business relationship.

The complaint accuses Evans of “being caught red-handed stealing,” including diverting a $600,000 recording fund and $1 million in royalties. Andra claims Evans also withheld payments owed to her and left her facing eviction due to financial instability caused by his actions. Her suit comes after Evans filed his lawsuit on Monday (Oct. 6), asserting that Andra owes him for unpaid royalties and backend payments, as well as an additional $850,000 per their alleged contractual agreements.

Dolly Parton Says ‘I Ain’t Dead Yet!’ After Sister Sparks Concerns By Asking Fans To Pray For Music Star
Dolly Parton has a message for fans in the wake of her sister Freida Parton’s worrying message: She ain’t dead yet!
The country singer shared an Instagram video on Wednesday, in which she was filmed in front of a green screen while shooting a commercial for the Grand Ole Opry. She captioned the post, “I ain’t dead yet!”
“I wanted to say I know lately everybody thinks that I am sicker than I am. Do I look sick to you? I’m working hard here,” Parton said in the video. “Anyway, I wanted to put everybody’s mind at ease.”

The Joyful Noise star expressed her gratitude for everyone’s prayers, and said that while she is doing “OK,” she is finally taking care of some health-related issues that she put on the back burner due to the illness and March death of her husband, Carl Dean.
“I didn’t take care of myself, so I let a lot of things go that I should have been taking care of,” she said. “So anyway, when I got around to it, the doctor said, ‘We need to take care of this. We need to take care of that.’” Those procedures, she said, forced her to remain closer to home, hence why she canceled events and shows.

Parton also poked fun at an AI video of Reba McEntire standing over her deathbed, which floated around on the internet in the wake of Parton’s sister’s message.
“There’s just a lot of rumors flying around, but I figured if you heard it from me, you’d know that I was OK. So anyhow, that’s what I wanted to say, and I’m not ready to die yet. I don’t think God is through with me, and I ain’t done working,” she said.

Speculation about Parton’s health came after Freida Parton, the 68-year-old sister of the country music icon, wrote on Facebook Tuesday about praying for Parton. But Freida clarified her comments later on Tuesday, writing on Facebook: “I want to clear something up. I didn’t mean to scare anyone or make it sound so serious when asking for prayers for Dolly.
“She’s been a little under the weather, and I simply asked for prayers because I believe so strongly in the power of prayer,” Freida wrote. “It was nothing more than a little sister asking for prayers for her big sister. Thank you all for lifting her up. Your love truly makes a difference.”

Freida had previously asked fans to pray for her sister. “Last night, I was up all night praying for my sister, Dolly,” Freida wrote. “I truly believe in the power of prayer, and I have been lead to ask all of the world that loves her to be prayer warriors and pray with me.”
Freida, one of Parton’s 11 siblings and herself a musician, added, “She’s strong, she’s loved, and with all the prayers being lifted for her, I know in my heart she’s going to be just fine. Godspeed, my sissy Dolly. We all love you!”

This is not the first time Parton’s health has made news in recent weeks. On Sept. 28, Parton, who is 79, wrote on Instagram that her series of concerts originally scheduled for December 2025 at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas would be postponed until September 2026.

“As many of you know, I have been dealing with some health challenges, and my doctors tell me that I must have a few procedures,” the “Jolene” songstress said in her message.
Parton said she joked with her doctors about needing her “100,000-mile check-up,” noting that “it’s not the usual trip to see my plastic surgeon.” Due to the unnamed procedures, she wrote, she would not be able to rehearse and put together the show that fans deserved to see.
For those concerned about Parton retiring, she said they didn’t need to worry about her “quittin’ the business” because “God hasn’t said anything about stopping yet.”

“But, I believe He is telling me to slow down right now so I can be ready for more big adventures with all of you,” she concluded her message, which also appeared on her website. “I love you and thank you for understanding.”
Earlier in September, Parton missed an event at her theme park, Dollywood, instead appearing virtually to share that she had developed an infection caused by a kidney stone and was advised not to travel.

“I was looking so forward to it,” she said in the message. “But I’m there with you in spirit.”The country star shared a video letting fans know that she’s doing just fine. The post comes after her sister sparked concern by asking fans to pray for the Jolene artist. In her message, Dolly admitted she has some problems and wasn’t taking care of herself after the de@th of her husband. She said it’s “nothing major,” however, she did have to cancel some events to be closer to home. #Dolly ended with, “I’m not ready to die yet…I ain’t done working.”

Maybach Mayy Accuses Saweetie of Unpaid Debts and Exploiting Jadon Sancho

The influencer world collided with hip hop and football drama this week when influencer Maybach Mayy detonated an Instagram exposé aimed squarely at rapper Saweetie. In a series of posts that instantly caught fire online, Mayy accused the “My Type” star of failing to pay for club hosting services during multiple international appearances, including a 2025 trip to Africa. However, the allegations did not stop there.

Screenshots of purported text messages, shared by Mayy, suggest that Saweetie instructed Manchester United forward Jadon Sancho to finance her extravagant lifestyle. Most jaw-dropping allegation? Saweetie openly discussed Sancho’s so-called “trick rate,” making the soccer professional a financial target, not merely a beau.
Both Sancho and Saweetie have been silent on the scandal, and the deafening silence is just stoking the flames.

The worst possible timing could not have come for Jadon Sancho. Already on the hot seat for unsteady play, the soccer player has been openly boasting about his relationship with Saweetie all summer. In August 2025, Sancho even inked Saweetie’s middle name, “Diamonte,” behind his ear, a lasting tribute that is now a regrettable poster child for poor taste.
Fans, already frustrated by Sancho’s struggles at United and missed World Cup opportunities, erupted online at the idea that a celebrity girlfriend was financially exploiting their star winger.

The Laundry List of Allegations
Besides the disputes over finances and charges of exploitation, Maybach Mayy’s Instagram stories made a tumultuous account of Saweetie’s off-stage life. Accusations include:

Drug use on appearance overseas
Adultery, supposedly with married men
Failure to reward the promoters and partner for work done

Even though the rumors have not been confirmed, the amount of detailing in Mayy’s updates has fans sure that there is more depth to the “icy girl” beyond diamond studded nails and hit melodies.

The response was instantaneous and brutal. Comment sections were flooded with outrage and disgust:
“Saweetie thinking she ain’t went further bc she get pretty punishment all the time she gone stealin money, gettin high and sleepin w people husband behind they back omgggg.“
“This is what Jadon Sancho is up to in a World Cup season?????”

“Sancho getting inked on the neck with some depraved rapper that he’s messing around with and becoming a pay pig to him and his entourage is like Heartbreaking. This ain’t the man I looked up too when I was 15.”
“United paid him 350k a week to trick on US rappers instead of playing football.”
“That message is ridiculous!! It was inquiring after the Trick rate of Sancho.”
“Sancho this is bad for the branddddd.”

At the center of this scandal is one critical question: Is this just an influencer causing drama for clout, or the unraveling of Saweetie’s sleek, brand-heavy persona? The rapper has made a name for herself with intricately crafted aesthetics and internet one-liners, but if these accusations hold true, her credibility with fans and brands will take a massive hit.
And Sancho, the timing is damning. Previously one of the brightest prospects in England’s youth, he is now being ridiculed on the internet as the Premier League’s highest-paid “simp.” Without any word from either camp, the world sits back and waits for this storm to pass or blow up careers.

Judge Says He Cannot Recommend Fort Dix As Diddy’s Choice Of Prison
Diddy will not be guaranteed a spot at FCI Fort Dix despite his legal team’s push for the New Jersey facility, with a federal judge ruling Wednesday (October 8) that only a general location recommendation—not a specific prison—can be made to the Bureau of Prisons.
Diddy, 55, was sentenced to four years and two months in federal prison after being convicted in July on two counts of transporting individuals across state lines for prostitution under the Mann Act.

He was acquitted of more serious charges, including racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking.
Judge Arun Subramanian said the court would advise that Diddy be placed near the New York metropolitan area and be considered for substance abuse treatment programs, including the Residential Drug Abuse Program (RDAP), but stopped short of endorsing Fort Dix by name.

“The Court will recommend a facility in the geographic location of the defense’s choosing, but not the specific facility, which is determined by the Bureau of Prisons,” Judge Subramanian wrote in his October 8 ruling.
The decision follows a formal request from Diddy’s attorney, Teny Geragos, who asked the court to recommend Fort Dix for its rehabilitation services and proximity to the convicted mogul’s family.
The defense argued that the low-security prison would support his recovery and allow more frequent visits from loved ones.

Since his arrest, Diddy has spent the last 12 months at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn. That time will be credited toward his sentence, shortening the time he has left to serve.
Fort Dix, located in Burlington County, New Jersey, houses around 4,000 inmates and is known for its lower security level and access to education, job training and drug treatment.
The prison’s proximity to New York would allow easier visitation for Diddy’s children and family members, many of whom live in the area.

Diddy, a towering figure in Hip-Hop and business, rose to fame as the founder of Bad Boy Records and expanded his empire into fashion, spirits and media. His conviction marks a steep fall from grace for one of the genre’s most recognizable moguls.

Carolyn Cheeks Kilpatrick, the former U.S. Representative for Michigan’s 13th Congressional District and the matriarch of a major Michigan political dynasty, has died. She was 80.

Cheeks Kikpatrick was also the mother of former state Rep. and ex-Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick. She served as the U.S. Representative for Michigan’s 15th congressional district and then Michigan’s 13th congressional district.
Cheeks Kilpatrick’s passing was confirmed by her son, said Sherry Gay-Dagnogo, Detroit’s new ombudsman, according to the Detroit Free Press.

“It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Congresswoman Carolyn Cheeks Kilpatrick, a tireless warrior for the city of Detroit and an unwavering champion for her constituents. For over 32 years, Congresswoman Kilpatrick held elected office with passion, integrity, and an unyielding commitment to bringing positive change to our community,” the family said in a statement, obtained by Deadline Detroit.

“Serving in the United States Congress for 14 remarkable years, she was the voice of a district that encompassed much of Detroit, along with Ecorse, River Rouge, and surrounding areas,” the statement continues. “As a distinguished member of the Congressional Black Caucus and a dedicated Appropriations Committee member, Congresswoman Kilpatrick advocated fiercely for her district, securing more funding for Detroit than any other member in the history of the United States Congress. Her incredible efforts led to monumental projects that will forever reshape our beloved city and enhance the lives of countless residents.”

Cheeks Kilpatrick was born on June 25, 1945, to Marvell Jr., an autoworker and handyman, and Willa Mae Cheeks, a beautician. Carolyn Jean Cheeks graduated in 1963 from the High School of Commerce in Detroit. She attended Ferris State University and earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Western Michigan University. In 1972, she earned a master’s degree in education from the University of Michigan, according to her biography.

After graduation, Carolyn taught in the Detroit school system before serving 18 years in the Michigan State House and then Congress from 1997 to 2011.
Cheeks Kilpatrick made history on multiple fronts. Kilpatrick became the second Black woman to serve in the House from Michigan following her election in 1996. Later, she was as the first African American woman on the House Appropriations Committee who became renowned for championing international aid, vehemently opposing the Iraqi War, and securing millions for flood and AIDS relief in sub-Saharan Africa.

Congresswoman Kilpatrick’s legacy is etched into the fabric of Detroit – from the vibrant Detroit Riverwalk to the iconic train running down Woodward Avenue. Her vision and dedication have left an indelible mark that will be felt for generations to come. She is survived by her two children Ayanna and Kwame Kilpatrick and her eight cherished grandchildren, who carry forward her spirit and commitment to service. She will be deeply missed not only by her family and friends but by the entire Detroit community that she loved so dearly. In honor of Congresswoman Kilpatrick, we encourage everyone to reflect on their own role in making our community a better place and to continue the courageous work she championed for all. Funeral arrangements are forthcoming.

Katie Porter’s interview ends in total disaster and may be an issue to her campaign for Governor of California
A routine television interview has turned into a political nightmare for Katie Porter, the former Democratic representative now running for California governor. Her attempt to abruptly end a CBS News interview has gone viral, triggering sharp criticism from fellow Democrats and causing her election odds to plummet on betting markets.

The controversy erupted when CBS correspondent Julie Watts asked Porter a straightforward campaign question about appealing to Trump voters in California. Porter’s defensive response and subsequent effort to cut the interview short has become a defining moment that threatens to derail her gubernatorial ambitions.

The friction began when Watts posed a basic electoral math question that any serious gubernatorial candidate should expect. She asked Porter how she planned to win over the 40% of California voters who supported Trump in the previous election.
Porter’s response revealed her discomfort with the line of questioning. Rather than providing a substantive answer about building coalitions or bridging political divides, she deflected with her own question, asking why she would need those voters to win.
When pressed about her chances with California’s remaining 60% of voters, Porter expressed confidence in a general election matchup. She claimed she could win voters who didn’t support Trump, though her reasoning remained vague throughout the exchange.

Porter’s polling position, while leading, reveals the competitive nature of the race. An August University of California, Berkeley poll showed her capturing 17% of voter support, putting her ahead of her closest competitors but far from a commanding lead.
Her nearest rivals include Republican Sheriff Chad Bianco and Democrat Xavier Becerra, former Health and Human Services Secretary, who each polled at 10% or less. Nine additional candidates earned 6% or fewer votes, while a substantial 38% of voters remained undecided.

These numbers suggest Porter needs to expand her appeal significantly to secure victory, making Watts’ question about Trump voters particularly relevant. The large undecided bloc indicates many Californians are still evaluating their options for governor.
As Watts continued probing Porter’s electoral strategy, the candidate grew increasingly agitated. Porter complained about what she characterized as excessive follow-up questions, suggesting the interview had become unnecessarily confrontational.
Porter ultimately attempted to terminate the interview, telling Watts she didn’t want to continue under those conditions. She expressed concern about having an unhappy experience on camera, though the interview reportedly continued for another 20 minutes after this exchange.

The candidate’s team later confirmed that filming lasted much longer than the tense moment that went viral, though they haven’t released additional footage or provided context for Porter’s reaction.
The interview’s release Wednesday triggered immediate backlash from Porter’s Democratic primary opponents, who seized on the moment to question her readiness for higher office. Their rapid response suggests they view this as a significant vulnerability.
State Superintendent Tony Thurmond delivered a particularly sharp rebuke, arguing that gubernatorial candidates shouldn’t hide from press scrutiny or mistreat journalists. He questioned how Porter could stand up to Trump if she couldn’t handle basic reporter questions.

Former California Assembly Speaker Antonio Villaraigosa also criticized Porter’s performance, suggesting the state deserves leadership capable of solving difficult problems and answering straightforward questions. His comments highlight concerns about Porter’s temperament under pressure.
The controversy’s impact extended beyond political commentary to measurable electoral consequences. Porter’s odds of winning the governorship dropped on Kalshi, an event-based trading platform that allows betting on political outcomes.
This market reaction suggests that observers view the interview as potentially damaging to Porter’s campaign prospects. Betting markets often reflect collective assessments of candidate viability more accurately than traditional polling.

Porter’s political trajectory adds context to the current controversy. She served in the House of Representatives from 2019 to 2025, building a reputation for aggressive questioning during committee hearings that often went viral on social media
However, her recent Senate campaign ended in defeat to Adam Schiff in the Democratic primary, raising questions about her statewide appeal. The gubernatorial race represents her attempt to rehabilitate her political career after that setback.
Porter‘s previous success came from her confrontational style with corporate executives and Trump administration officials during congressional hearings. Her inability to handle similar pressure as a candidate suggests different skills are required for electoral politics versus legislative oversight.

The viral interview moment threatens to define Porter’s gubernatorial campaign just as the race intensifies, potentially undermining her frontrunner status among a crowded field of candidates.

Trump Linked Groups Push Supreme Court to End State Bans on “Conversion Therapy,”
Organizations supported by Donald Trump’s administration are pushing the Supreme Court to overturn state bans on conversion therapy for minors.
At the center is Chiles v. Salazar, a Colorado case that questions whether banning conversion therapy violates therapists’ free speech rights. During oral arguments this week, several conservative justices appeared open to that idea.
The therapist behind the case is backed by a Christian legal group with ties to Trump’s political network. The administration has echoed similar legal arguments, claiming that state bans interfere with parental rights and religious counseling.
Conversion therapy, also called reparative therapy, refers to efforts to change a person’s sexual orientation or gender identity through counseling or interventions.

Historically, conversion therapy included harmful and abusive tactics such as electric shocks or medication meant to cause nausea when someone expressed same sex attraction. Modern versions often disguise themselves as “talk therapy” or “faith-based counseling,” but experts say they still cause deep emotional damage by implying that being LGBTQ+ is wrong.

The American Psychological Association and every major U.S. health organization have condemned conversion therapy as ineffective and dangerous. Studies link it to depression, anxiety, and suicidal thoughts among LGBTQ+ youth. More than 20 states currently ban licensed therapists from using it on minors to protect young people from emotional and psychological harm.
Mental health professionals argue that conversion therapy bans are about safety, not censorship. They say these laws exist to protect children from practices that have no medical basis and can lead to lifelong trauma.
While Trump has not personally reinstated conversion therapy, his administration’s legal allies have taken positions that support dismantling bans under the argument of religious liberty.

As the Court prepares its decision, advocates warn that the outcome could determine whether LGBTQ+ teens continue to receive protection or face renewed exposure to a practice many consider abuse.
