#MAGFAB: The cast of The Color Purple for The Hollywood Reporter!
Of all the emotions that The Color Purple evokes, joy is typically not among them. After all, the movie based on Alice Walker’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel centers on a Black woman who suffers unspeakable sexual and physical abuse from the men in her life, sees her children taken away from her at birth, lives during the punishing times of a post-slavery South and is belittled by the outside world as unworthy of love. While her journey, told through her letters to God, eventually arrives at an intersection of peace and forgiveness, joy is something that seems fleeting for much of Celie’s story.

The musical remake of the 1985 classic film, out Dec. 25, doesn’t change the narrative, but does filter it through a different lens — focusing on the moments that inspire Celie, the women in her life who lift her to that point and, more important, the healing that restores not only her humanity, but that of those around her.
Reflecting on the story, the three female stars — Fantasia Barrino, Danielle Brooks and Taraji P. Henson — speak in reverence of the original film and the book. Henson likens it to Shakespeare for the Black community, and Brooks says, “I’ve been describing it as our cinematic heirloom. And I just really truly feel that’s what it is. It’s the thing that you cherish the most that was passed on since 1985. You take care of it and you pass it on to the next.”
Despite that reverence, Henson can also see some of its flaws. “The first movie missed culturally. We don’t wallow in the muck. We don’t stay stuck in our traumas. We laugh, we sing, we go to church, we dance, we celebrate, we fight for joy, we find joy, we keep it. That’s all we have,” Henson tells THR during a recent interview, with Barrino and Brooks sitting by her side. “We don’t have power. We are continuously oppressed, kept under a thumb. So what else can we do but laugh and celebrate life? We have to, otherwise we would die. So as soon as you see the first frame, you’re going to know that this movie is different. The coloring is different. It’s light, it’s bright, it’s vibrant. It’s us.”

“Vibrant” could also be used to describe the trio, whose strong bond was forged during filming nearly two years ago. They laugh, finish one another’s sentences and even shed tears. The Color Purple has served as a balm for the women, who have endured their own pain as Black actresses in a business where starring roles like this are still a rarity, and a struggle to attain. “It has been real with each other. I think that’s been the beauty of all of this, we don’t have to sugarcoat things with one another. We can have deep conversations about the hurt and pain we’ve been through in this industry,” Brooks says. “Me and the sisterhood is real,” adds Henson. “Everything I do, I’m doing so that I can pass the baton, because eventually the torch is being passed. I’m not going to do this forever. But for you coming up behind me, I just want you to have an easier road.”

When the SAG-AFTRA strike dragged past Halloween into November, Oprah Winfrey started to get nervous. As a producer of the big-budget remake, she fretted about the possibility that her stars — including Colman Domingo, Corey Hawkins, Halle Bailey and Gabriella Wilson, better known as the Oscar-winning singer-songwriter H.E.R. — wouldn’t be able to promote the film. “One of the reasons why I was praying, praying, praying that the strike would be over is because I so wanted this experience, the experience that I had with The Color Purple in my life, to be shared by all of these women,” Winfrey tells The Hollywood Reporter, before tearing up. “I thought, ‘If the strike doesn’t end, they will never get to have that ride.’ And there’s nothing like that ride. There’s nothing like being out in the world, being able to talk about it and to share the beautiful energy of everything that Alice wanted when she wrote that story. It’s like every time we speak, we get to talk the ancestors up. And so there’s not a person on this film who doesn’t realize that the film is bigger than all of us.”

Winfrey talks about the divine in relation to her connection to The Color Purple frequently, describing it as life-changing on multiple fronts. When the book was first released and she read its first words — about a young girl who is raped by her stepfather and gives birth to their children — it mirrored her own life, having had a stillborn child as the result of a rape as a teen. A local talk show host in Chicago at the time, she heard the movie was being made and was determined to play any role in the production, assuming it would be a non-acting one, but producer Quincy Jones saw her on local television and sought her out to audition for Sofia.

#RHOA: HALLEUIJAH!! Kenya Moore And Marc Daly Finalize D
ivorce After Three Years!
It's been a long time coming, but Kenya Moore and Marc Daly are legally divorced. On Tuesday (Dec. 12), Moore confirmed to PEOPLE that their mediation is finally over. For the couple, this divorce has been several years in the making.

"After more than three years of litigation, I have finally been granted a divorce," she told the outlet in an exclusive statement about her private mediation with Daly, whom she shares a four-year-old daughter with. "I want to thank everyone who prayed for and uplifted me when I needed it the most."
"I’m excited for this next chapter in my life and being the best mom I can be for my daughter, Brooklyn."

When the reality star appeared on "Watch What Happens Live" hosted by Andy Cohen in January, she dubbed her separation from Daly "the world's longest divorce" after initially filing in May 2021.
Last month while attending BravoCon, the reality star discussed why their divorce had yet to be settled.
“We had a court hearing and then got on the trial calendar, so were going to go to trial, and then we got bumped off the trial calendar. I can’t make this stuff up," she said during a panel discussion at the event.

While at that event, she manifested major movement ahead of the year's end. "I’m saying it right now: I will be single and divorced before 2024,” she added.
While it appears that her dreams have come true in the divorce world, she is not letting her new status hinder her romantic hopes for the future.
"As a hopeless romantic, I still believe my forever person exists and know I’ll have my happily ever after ending after all," she explained.
In May 2021, the former Miss USA filed for divorce from her husband, Daly, after two years of marriage.

Earlier this year, Moore appeared on the "Tamron Hall" show and said she regretted not signing a prenuptial agreement before they tied the knot.
“I always say prenup for everyone because it protects both parties. I used to date an agent—an NBA agent—and he would see all of these guys you know that made $100 million and then they get married and they always take it away. So he would always tell me, you know prenups protect you, he would show me the prenup. And I understood it. But when it came to my marriage, I said I want a prenup. He was adamant about not having one.”

The Roots are taking their annual Roots Picnic to Los Angeles in 2024, and they’re bringing Common, Queen Latifah and more along for the ride.

Tickets go on sale on Thursday (December 14) at 10am PT.
In an Instagram post about the event, Questlove said: “for all the non tri state ‘WHY WONT YALL BRING THE PICNIC TO US!!!!’ crew: This lineup is so incredible I WANNA BUY TICKETS TO SEE THIS. After last night’s Grammy Celebration I kept saying ‘yeah cause it ain’t like we are gonna celebrate the 51st Anniversary so let’s just do it now…”
He continued: “But then it’s like: WHY NOT CELEBRATE HIP HOP’s 51st & 52nd & so on and so on….? Who knows…..just maybe this thing might be our lil summertime jawn in your neck of the woods eh? Get tix now, you already know it’s gonna be sold out pronto and even if my music idols came back from the next world asking for a +1 imma have to be all “I don’t know what I can do for ya.”

In addition to their many musical endeavors, The Roots’ frontman Black Thought recently penned a memoir, The Upcycled Self. In it, he discussed how he and Questlove once got into a physical altercation in the early days of the group, and he elaborated on the incident in an interview to promote the book last month.
“We had a brief sort of scuffle, kerfuffle, a little 30-second altercation when we were young and just starting out,” he told NPR. “We were displaced, living in London and there was just lots of angst and anxiety … with all the energy associated with anyone’s first time putting out a record. … So, yeah, just the perfect storm of events.

“It led to us coming to blows right quick. And it was the sort of thing that I’d forgotten about it before we left the place [where] it had taken place. But I think it’s the sort of thing that it stuck with him in a different way. Is it a grudge that he’s held? I don’t think so. But I definitely don’t think it’s something that he has ever forgotten.”
The Upcycled Self is available now.

#RIP: Emmy-Winning And 'Brooklyn Nine-Nine' Actor Andre Braugher Died After Brief Illness

Andre Braugher has sadly passed away. The two-time Emmy winner, who starred on TV series such as "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" and "Men of a Certain Age", died on Monday, December 11 at age 61.
His longtime publicist Jennifer Allen confirmed the news of his death on Tuesday. The representative said the actor died after a brief illness, but did not share further details of his illness and funeral arrangement plans.

Braugher was known for his role as Captain Raymond Holt on the police procedural comedy series "Brooklyn Nine-Nine", which he starred on since the first season in 2013 until it ended its run after eight seasons in 2021. For his role on the critically-acclaimed series, he received numerous nominations, including four Primetime Emmy Award nominations, and won two Critics' Choice Television Awards.

Braugher, who was born in Chicago, was also known for his roles as Detective Frank Pembleton on the police drama series "Homicide: Life on the Street" (1993-1999) and used car salesman Owen Thoreau Jr. on the comedy-drama series "Men of a Certain Age" (2009-2011). He also had supporting roles in films such as "Glory" (1989), "Primal Fear" (1996), "City of Angels" (1998), "Frequency" (2000), "Duets" (2000), "Poseidon" (2006), "The Mist" (2007), "Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer" (2007), "Salt" (2010), "The Gambler" (2014) and "She Said" (2022).

Throughout his career that spanned over three decades, Braugher bagged a total of 11 Emmy nominations. He won one of his two Emmy Awards for his role on "Homicide: Life on the Street" and another for his portrayal of a leader of a heist crew on miniseries "Thief" (2006). He also had a role on Shondaland mystery drama series "The Residence", which will be released on Netflix posthumously.

He is survived by his wife, actress Ami Brabson, whom he had been married to since 1991, and three sons, Michael, Isaiah and John. Brabson also appeared on "Homicide: Life on the Street".

Beyonce Defended After Being Called Out By Artist Hajime Sorayama Over 'Renaissance' Costume

Beyonce Knowles has had social media users come in her defense following Hajime Sorayama's allegation leveled at her. After being accused of copying the fashion designer's concept for one of her costumes during "Renaissance" tour, the "Break My Soul" hitmaker was supported by many.
On Monday, December 11, a number of social media users voiced their thoughts on Hajime's claim suggesting that the 42-year-old superstar did not ask for his permission to use his concept. In the comments section of his latest Instagram post, one in particular penned, "She's wearing Thierry Mugler based off an archive Mugler look that referenced 'Metropolis'. Were you this incensed when she wore a similar headpiece in 2007 at the BET awards?"

Meanwhile, another blasted Hajime by writing, "I'm a fan of your work, but this is a reach. These visuals have been out since May, when the tour started; however, now you suddenly have a problem with it? 1. It's just a headpiece. 2. This look, in addition to many of her other looks spanning her career are Mugler/reference Mugler's work… so, was he copying you as well?"

A third asked, "You don't own the Robot Hyper Feme Genre. Also, the album, artwork, concert, movie came and went. Why are you speaking about it now?" In the meantime, a fourth noted, "You and whoever made her headpiece clearly drew from the same metropolis inspo. Doesn't make anyone a thief, certainly not Beyonce."

In the post itself, Hajime uploaded a series of photos in an attempt to compare Queen Bey's headpiece to his designs. In one of the snaps, the "Halo" hitmaker could be seen wearing a silver metallic robot-themed hat, which covered the upper part of her hair.
Along with the snaps, Hajima wrote in the caption of the post, "Yo @beyonce You should have asked me 'officially' so that I could make much better work for you as like my man @theweeknd." He mentioned the official Instagram account of singer The Weeknd, who is one of the designer's clients.

Harvard’s board: We unanimously stand in support of President Gay

Embattled Harvard President Claudine Gay has gained the unanimous support of the university’s board, Harvard’s highest governing body said in a statement Tuesday, giving Gay significant cover to remain in her position after a tumultuous week in which many donors and politicians have called for her ouster.

“As members of the Harvard Corporation, we today reaffirm our support for President Gay’s continued leadership of Harvard University,” the statement from the Harvard Corporation said. “Our extensive deliberations affirm our confidence that President Gay is the right leader to help our community heal and to address the very serious societal issues we are facing.”
The Harvard Corporation, the university’s top governance board, announced the decision Tuesday morning following the conclusion of the board’s meeting on Monday. The Harvard Crimson, the university’s student newspaper, was first to report the news Tuesday morning.

“In this tumultuous and difficult time, we unanimously stand in support of President Gay,” the Corporation added in its statement.
On Tuesday evening, all five living former presidents of Harvard University, including famed economist Larry Summers, put out a statement offering support for Gay.
“As former Presidents of Harvard University, we offer our strong support for Claudine Gay as she leads Harvard into the future,” the statement posted on X reads.

Notably, the statement was signed by Summers, the former Obama and Clinton official who has at times criticized Gay.
In October, Summers said he was “sickened” by Harvard student groups issuing an anti-Israel statement, adding he could not “fathom the Administration’s failure to disassociate the University and condemn this statement.”

In the joint statement on Tuesday, the former Harvard presidents said they “look forward to supporting President Gay in whatever ways we can as Harvard faces this challenging moment for higher education and the wider world.”
The statement was also signed by former Harvard presidents Lawrence Bacow, Derek Bok, Drew Faust and Neil Rudenstine.
But strong criticism of Gay remains, and the board’s statement of support may not be the final word on the matter.

Gay, the first Black president in Harvard’s nearly 400-year history, has been on the hot seat ever since her widely criticized testimony on antisemitism at American universities before a House committee a week ago. Since then, UPenn President Liz Magill, who testified alongside Gay, resigned, and some high-profile donors and politicians called for Gay’s ouster.

House GOP Conference Chairwoman Elise Stefanik, whose questioning at last week’s hearing led to the viral moments that landed the university presidents in hot water, blasted her alma mater for supporting its president Tuesday.
“There is a reason why the testimony at the Education Workforce Committee garnered 1 billion views worldwide. And it’s because those university presidents made history by putting the most morally bankrupt testimony into the Congressional Record And the world saw it,” Stefanik said at the weekly GOP leadership presser. “This is a moral failure of Harvard’s leadership and higher education leadership at the highest levels.”

Still, an outpouring of support for Gay Monday from hundreds of faculty and alumni could have tipped the board’s decision in her favor.
More than 700 Harvard faculty members have signed a petition backing Gay. According to the 2023 Harvard annual report, the university has 1,068 tenured faculty plus 403 tenure-track faculty.

The Executive Committee of Harvard University’s Alumni Association on Monday announced its unreserved support for Gay. And over 800 Black alumni have announced their “unequivocal support” for Gay and her efforts to “build a stronger, more inclusive community at our alma matter while balancing the critical principals of free thought and free speech.”

“I’m glad the Corporation made their own decision to keep Claudine Gay rather than outsourcing it to others,” Harvard economic policy professor Jason Furman, who served as a top economic adviser to President Obama, told CNN in a statement Tuesday. “I also hope they are pressing Claudine Gay and schools to continue the process of fixing our mistakes and moving forward in a better way.”

Hilary Duff Is Pregnant, Expecting Baby No. 4
For Hilary Duff, this is what dreams are made of. The Lizzie McGuire alum is pregnant with her and husband Matthew Koma's third baby together and her fourth child overall, she confirmed on Instagram Dec. 12.
Alongside a sweet family photo, showing Hilary cradling her growing baby bump, the "Come Clean" singer wrote, "Surprise Surprise!"
Hilary is already mom to kids Luca, 11, who she co-parents with ex-husband Mike Comrie, as well as her and Matthew's daughters Banks, 5, and Mae, 2.
This new chapter for the family comes shortly after both Hilary and Matthew, both 36, celebrated their eldest daughter's birthday.

"Banks- the sweet/spice/dancing butterfly of our family!" Hilary captioned her Oct. 25 Instagram tribute. "5 years of memories with you are burned on my heart and soul forever and begging for more! You are all the top ingredients! Whimsical, yet practical. Smart-clever-cautious, yet free! Thanks for being ours and for being weird and princessy all in one glorious package!!!"

"Gosh I love you so much!" the Younger star continued. "To the best big and little sister there ever was! Happy 5 my little cherry bomb ! I sure hope the next 5 go by a little slower, all the cuddles, tickles, Taylor Swift, brain teasers, treats and trampoline bounces 4life my queen."
Matthew also celebrated Banks' special day with a sweet message on his Instagram page.

"Being your dad is the greatest gift of my life and seeing every day through your rainbow tinted eyes has colored our family with all the good there is in the world," the singer wrote. "I'm blown away by your wit, kindness, heart, affinity for Dawes and I can't even imagine what magic will come along with your 5th year on this planet. I love you forever and when we let you have social media at 37, you'll see this post and maybe feel a little guilty for telling me you love mommy more all the time."

A few weeks prior to Matthew's shoutout to Banks, the music producer had penned another hilarious Instagram tribute for Hilary's birthday.
"It's wild to think this first photo of us was taken almost ten years ago," he joked, referencing a pic of Hilary and Ed Sheeran. "I remember it so vividly, it's almost like we didn't break up three times between then and now."

Matthew—who, after an on-off relationship, officially tied the knot with Hilary in 2019—continued, "You blow me away everyday with your ability to juggle the un-juggle-able… you do it with such ease & grace. You have an endless well of energy and patience that makes you the super-mom + super-wife you are, all while bringing your wildest dreams to earth level, then still somehow giving a shit about our dogs at the end of the day."

He concluded his message by noting how much of an honor it is to be on this journey with Hilary.
"We're the luckiest," he added, before joking, "our kids are gonna be so stoked when they find out Ed Sheeran is their real dad. #paidad."

Megan Thee Stallion reportedly enters into distribution deal with Warner Music Group
Billboard reported that Megan Thee Stallion secured a “distribution and services” deal with Warner Music Group. It is her latest move since ending a lengthy battle with 1501 Certified Entertainment in October.
As detailed Megan and 1501 agreed to a settlement that allowed both parties to part ways amicably. “[They] are pleased to put this matter behind them and move forward with the next chapter of their respective businesses,” said a label representative at that time. President Carl Crawford also added that he and his company “wish Megan the very best in her life and career.”

Previously, Megan told fans that she planned to release her next body of work independently.
“[This stage of my next album’s creation] is definitely very much funded by Megan because, you know, we’re trying to get off… Y’all know what’s the tea,” she told viewers during a livestream. “But I have no label right now, and we’re doing everything funded straight out of Megan Thee Stallion’s pockets. So, the budget is coming from me. Motherf**king Hot Girl Productions. The next s**t y’all about to see is all straight from Megan Thee Stallion. Megan Thee Stallion’s brain, Megan Thee Stallion’s wallet. We in my pockets, hotties, so let’s do our big one.”

Her most recent LP, Traumazine, was released in 2022 with 18 songs and assists from Key Glock, Latto, Pooh Shiesty, Rico Nasty, JhenΓ© Aiko, Future, and more. The album both debuted within the top five of the Billboard 200 and earned Megan a gold certification. Since then, the Houston talent remained on the radar via songs like “Get It On the Floor” with J. Alphonse Nicholson, “Bongos” with Cardi B, and “Out Alpha The Alpha.” In November, she dropped off the emotionally charged “Cobra,” which saw her addressing struggles with relationships and her mental health.

Tiffany Haddish Reportedly Prohibited from Drinking Alcohol Following Second DUI Arrest, Ordered to Take Random Drug Tests

Actress and comedian Tiffany Haddish might not be having any eggnog this holiday season unless it’s virgin after a Georgia judge forbade her from drinking any alcohol or taking any illegal drugs.
The judge rendered the decision in the first week of December after the second of her two DUI arrests over the past two years following a petition from prosecutors regarding the terms of her bond for her charges in California last month.

Prosecutors specifically requested the inclusion of a provision stating that Haddish is prohibited from consuming alcohol and must undergo weekly drug testing, according to court documents seen by RadarOnline.
“The After Party” star was arrested on Nov. 24 by the police most recently when a report came in about an individual sleeping in her Tesla in the middle of the street. The Beverly Hills Police Department stated that their officers approached Haddish and subsequently took her into custody on suspicion of driving under the influence. She was later released after several hours and posted a $1,666 bond.

Haddish was previously arrested for falling asleep in a car after smoking weed in Georgia on Jan. 14, 2022.
As per the ruling, she is currently restricted from consuming alcohol or using substances, including HEM products like CBD. The judge specified that any prescription drugs must adhere to therapeutic limits. Additionally, she is required to undergo a drug test panel that screens for common illicit drugs, including testing for ETG and ETS, which are alcohol metabolites.

Some of the 44-year-old’s friends believe that their girl is in trouble, pointing to her past abandonment issues, her very public breakup with rapper Common, and a now-resolved lawsuit leveled by a former friend who accused her of having inappropriate relations with her children as what may have triggered her into a downward spiral of drinking and driving.

“As soon as I heard it, I said ‘godd-mn, I’m glad she’s OK,’” Haddish’s friend told The New York Post.
“But it seems weird to me. You would think that someone would have a driver in that situation. This is tough because there’s nothing anybody’s gonna say to take away that this is her second offense,” the insider continued.
“The way people look at drinking and driving. Hopefully, there’s a lesson to be learned. If people want to be critical, I say f–k that — you don’t know what a person is going through,” that friend added. “You don’t know what’s troubling a person.”

“I have some news. I heard The View is the place to announce things like this. I’m engaged!” Yvette announced as she held up her hand to show off her new engagement ring.

Yvette went on to share that she and Anthony first met and became friends decades ago at a church acting class. The two went their separate ways, but re-connected in 2021 after her mother passed away.
When asked how Anthony proposed, Yvette shared, “An auditorium was named after me at my old high school, it was so many things, we were celebrating that, and then we were at a party, and he gave me a [lottery scratch card], and on the scratcher it said, ‘Will you marry me?’ I thought I was going to win some money, and I won a man.”

Anthony – who was in the audience – then added, “She’s just the most beautiful person in the world.”
Congrats to the happy couple!

Television pioneer Norman Lear remembered in tribute featuring Oprah Winfrey, Mackenzie Phillips and Jimmie Walker

Hollywood legend Norman Lear, who died Tuesday at the age of 101, was remembered in a special tribute featuring the colleagues, friends and family members who knew him best. Hosted by Nischelle Turner, Norman Lear: A Life on Television aired on CBS on Friday evening, and reflected on the life and work of the TV pioneer. Lear developed over 100 projects in his lifetime, including beloved shows like Good Times, All in the Family, Maude and One Day at a Time.

The stars of his show reflect on his legacy As the creator of some of TV's most influential sitcoms, Lear developed a familial relationship with his stars. Mackenzie Phillips, who rose to stardom as sassy teenager Julie Cooper on One Day at a Time, had nothing but love for her time working with Lear.
"Norman Lear was a social justice warrior long before that phrase ever existed," reflected Phillips, 64, who starred alongside Valerie Bertinelli and Bonnie Franklin in the hit '70s series, which followed a single mom and her two daughters. "We were dealing with losing your virginity, birth control, Julie became a religious convert, we dealt with things nobody was talking about. 'If you just don't look it's not happening.' And Norman made us look."

Phillips also reflected on Lear's championship of women's rights and racial equality. "His ultimate goal through his work was to change the world. Maybe one day at a time," she concluded, referring to the name of her series.
Also featured in the program was Jimmie Walker, known as J.J. Evans on Lear's sitcom Good Times, which centered on a tight-knit Black family living in a Chicago housing project. Walker recalled Lear's dedication to hiring Black writers for the series.

"In those days we had no Black writers, but Norman searched high and low for these people," Walker noted, adding that Lear reached out to HBCUs, or historically black colleges and universities, to recruit fresh writing staff. "The HBCUs sent out a thing, and he said 'If you think you and write on any of my shows, send in a script and we’ll look at it."

Hollywood friends speak out
It wasn't just the stars of Lear's beloved programs that praised Lear during the tribute. Oprah Winfrey, speaking at the world premiere of her film The Color Purple, had a powerful message of gratitude for Lear.
"His impact and legacy will be felt for generations to come. Even people who were not familiar with those shows are experiencing the benefit of what those shows did for our society, our culture, our America," Winfrey shared.

Kelly Rizzo, wife of the late Bob Saget, reflected on how Saget loved attending Lear's cigar nights. When Saget died in 2022, Rizzo said she received lengthy, supportive voicemails from Lear.
"I was just listening to all these voicemails he left me over the last couple of years and I remember at the time being so mad at myself for missing some phone calls from him," Rizzo shared. "Because how do you miss a phone call from Norman Lear? But had I answered, I now wouldn’t have these beautiful, thoughtful voicemails full of wisdom and heart that he let me that I now get to cherish forever."

Additional voices who shared special memories of Lear included Lenny Kravitz, whose mother Roxie Roker had a pivotal role in Lear's sitcom The Jeffersons, in which she portrayed one-half of the first interracial couple on primetime TV. Roker was also married to a white man in real life, and Kravitz explained how special it was to have his mother's role on screen reflect his own upbringing.
"It’s a strange twist of fate that you are representing the same thing in your personal life and in your professional life," Kravitz noted.

In addition to the stars who contributed specifically to the tribute, the show featured several clips of Hollywood heavyweights who noted the impact of Lear on American society. A clip of Jerry O'Connell from a recent episode of The Talk showed the actor discussing how his career was shaped by Lear's generosity. Noting that he "wouldn't be sitting here without Norman Lear," O'Connell recalled that Lear put up the necessary money to produce the 1986 coming-of-age film Stand By Me, which was directed by All in the Family star Rob Reiner. O'Connell played the young Vern in the film.

"It didn’t have the funding, and Rob Reiner went to Norman, who put $8 million into the movie," recalled O'Connell. The film went on to be a runaway hit.
Another clip featured George Clooney discussing how Lear purchased a piece of the Declaration of Independence in 2000. Lear sent the piece of history out on tour in 100 cities to inspire young people to vote. The move was a success: Lear got 4 million young people to register.
"He felt he had such a responsibility to make sure that kids saw it and understood from where they came and what this meant and what these people were fighting for," Clooney said.

Lear's family shares memories from his last days
While Lear was known for bringing diverse families into the homes of television viewers, he also had a supportive family of his own. Married to his wife Lynn, Lear was the father of six children and a grandfather to four. Lear's son-in-law, Jon Lapook, recalled in the tribute that the family spent Lear's final days singing in unison.
"We were singing songs from Les Mis, and some of the songs from his TV shows," Lapook shared, adding that one of the tunes the family sang together was "the theme song from All in the Family."

One of Lear's final requests before he passed was that fans and followers contribute to People for the American Way, a progressive advocacy organization, which he started in 1981.

LaTavia Roberson Reacts to ‘Ridiculous’ Rumors About Jagged Edge Twins
*Former Destiny’s Child member LaTavia Roberson is shooting down longtime rumors that she and LeToya Luckett were ousted from the group because they were dating Jagged Edge members Brandon and Brian Casey.
Roberson set the record straight with Carlos King on the Dec. 5 podcast, Reality with The King. As MadameNoire reports, Carlos discussed the speculation that the twin brothers attempted to poison the teens against manager former manager Mathew Knowles, claiming he “was giving special treatment and high pay to his daughter, BeyoncΓ©, and the group’s other member, Kelly Rowland,” the outlet writes.

“Can’t nobody get in your head unless there’s something to be gotten in your head about,” Roberson responded.
“Me and my relationship had nothing to do with foul play being done. It had nothing to do with my relationship. I’m sick of people trying to say that and pin that on that. It’s ridiculous. It’s ludicrous. [I’m] tired of hearing it,”  she stated, according to MadameNoire.

“First of all, we all had boyfriends. Me and LaToya weren’t the only ones,” she added.
Back in 2019, Knowles accused certain members of Jagged Edge of sexually harassing BeyoncΓ© and Kelly Rowland when they were teenagers.

“Now remember, the girls are minors,” Mathew said. “They’re 16-years-old the guys are 21, 22-years-old… I got a call from Kelly and BeyoncΓ©—and I talk about this in the book in detail—saying that they were constantly being harassed by two other members of Jagged Edge. I couldn’t have that.”
Knowles (BeyoncΓ©’s father) made the accusations about when he sat down with VladTV. We reported previously that Knowles claimed that while the girls were just teens on tour with Jagged Edge (composed of Brian Casey, Brandon Casey, Richard Wingo, and Kyle Norman), two of the 20-something-year-old men gave BeyoncΓ© and Kelly Rowland problems.

Casey previously took to his Instagram to accuse Knowles of using the story to sell his memoir at the time.
“One thing I have learned from my 20plus years in this business and it’s always something,” Brian wrote in a 2019 post. “It’s actually funny how far people go to sell something ??‍♂‍lol but I give All Praises To The Most High At all times Shalawam love ones.”

Scott wasn’t feeling McEnroe’s suggested name, to which the famously enraged tennis guru responded, “Come on, man! Show some respect! This is my shoe!” Scott doubled down on his suggestion, which caused McEnroe to ultimately leave the call.
