#RHOA: Cynthia Bailey Films With 'Real Housewives of Beverly Hills'
An Atlanta peach has made her way to Beverly Hills. Real Housewives of Atlanta alum Cynthia Bailey recently filmed with the cast of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, but isn’t joining the cast, ET has learned.

"Cynthia Bailey filmed with the RHOBH ladies over the weekend. She attended a party Kyle Richards was having. Cynthia came as Sutton Stracke’s guest," the source says.
"Although cameras were rolling, Cynthia is not an official cast member, but is often invited to events by the cast and she decided to go to the dinner. She might be popping in and out as a guest in the upcoming season. Nothing is official and right now it’s casual. Cynthia’s focus is still her acting career."

The dinner took place over the weekend at Richards' home and former RHOBH co-stars Denise Richards and Camille Grammer were also present as cameras rolled, ET has learned.

Richards is filming for the new season, but a source says "it’s looking like just guest spots for now. She might pop up a few times this year and then, who knows? Maybe she’ll want to pick her diamond back up."
Bailey posted a photo to Instagram with the location as Beverly Hills, California, resulting in Stracke, who was also at the dinner, asking, "How did we not take a pic together???"
Lisa Rinna announced her exit from the show in January, following a tumultuous season filled with feuding and bad blood with other cast members, which ultimately led her to walk away from the franchise.
In early March, Erika Jaynespoke with ET about filming the new season of RHOBH without her longtime co-star.

"You know, I miss my friend. I do. But I know that she's off doing great things," Jayne shared. "She's going to be missed."
"But, hey, the show goes on and we're going to have a great season," Jayne said of the production, which is currently underway. "We've been together as a group three times and so far, so good."

#HipHopNews: DJ Drama & Queen Latifah Recreate ‘Juice’ Scene In ‘I’m Really Like That’ Video
DJ Drama and Queen Latifah have recreated a scene from the 1992 hit movie, Juice for the new music video, “I’m Really Like That.”
In the video, which was released on Monday (March 27) and produced by Jordan Benston of Oracle Media, LLC, the legendary rapper is in charge of running an audition to find the next hot local DJ in New York just like she did in the classic film.

When the video starts, Queen Latifah — who’s name was Ruffhouse M.C. in the film, is arguing with a young DJ who was upset that she didn’t like his mixtape. After the argument was finished, Latifah allowed the “Gangsta Grillz” DJ to audition for her. Omar Epps, who’s name was Q in the movie, is who DJ Drama portrayed.

Check out the video HERE
Once she let DJ Drama in, she popped his tape into the cassette player and his song “HO4ME” featuring A Boogie With Da Hoodie and Lil Baby started playing. The video served as a teaser to DJ Drama’s upcoming album, I’m Really Like That, which will be released on March 31.

Juelz Santana also made a cameo appearance in the video. The Dipset member took to Instagram recently with a picture he took alongside Queen Latifah in New York City. In his caption, the New York Artist explained how excited he was to meet the Queen and re-enact one of his favorite movie scenes of hers.

“Who U Calling A ….. Honored To Meet The 1 N Only @queenlatifah not only that I got to re N act 1 of my fav seance from my favorite movie with her WOW,” Juelz wrote. “If U Know U Know… LEGENDARY Couldn’t Let Her Leave Without A Pic #ICFMF #WeInMotion #BackOutSide.”

Meanwhile, DJ Drama stated last week that his position within Hip Hop is solidified, and he is surprised that it’s even up for debate.

“I’m not in a position of speaking politically correct anymore,” he said during an interview with Cigar Talk. “For what I’ve done for the culture and what I’ve given to people and what I’ve given to Hip Hop, like n-ggas, can’t see me.”

He continued: “Second of all, don’t ever question about what I mean to Hip Hop. How many classic mixtapes would we not have if it wasn’t for DJ Drama.”

Nashville private school shooting suspect had maps of building and scouted possible second attack location, police say
A shooter who killed three 9-year-old students and three adults at a private Christian elementary school in Nashville Monday had maps of the school, left behind writings and scouted a second possible attack location, police said.

Police identified the shooter as Audrey Hale, a 28-year-old former student at the school, and called the attack targeted. Hale was shot and killed by police during the attack, which was the deadliest school shooting in nearly a year.

Hale, armed with three firearms, entered the Covenant School by shooting through a side door, Metro Nashville Police Chief John Drake said at a news conference.
Authorities say the attack unfolded over about 14 minutes. The first call about the shooting came in at 10:13 a.m. and the shooter was dead at 10:27 a.m., police spokesperson Don Aaron said.

Hale fired multiple shots on the first and second floors of the school, police said. A five-member team of police officers heard the gunfire, went to the second floor and fatally shot the suspect, Aaron said.
After the attack, authorities found Hale had “maps drawn of the school in detail, surveillance, entry points,” Drake said.

“We some writings that we’re going over that pertain to this day, the actual incident,” Drake said. “We have a map drawn out of how this was all going to take place.”

Investigators also found the shooter may have looked at targeting another location, Drake said, but gave up on the idea after doing a “threat assessment” because the site had “too much security.” The location was in Nashville, he said.

Police believe Hale obtained at least two of the weapons legally, Drake said. Three weapons – an AR-style rifle, an AR-style pistol and a handgun – were found.

Police are investigating a motive and have a “theory” but are continuing to probe the shooter’s home and have talked with the suspect’s father, Drake said. The shooter did not have any known history of mental illness, but authorities are “looking at that as the investigation is ongoing,” he added.

The victims include 9-year-old students and top school official
Nashville police identified the victims Monday afternoon as Evelyn Dieckhaus, Hallie Scruggs and William Kinney, all 9-year-old students at the school; Cynthia Peak, 61, Katherine Koonce, 60, and Mike Hill, 61, who were all working at the school.
Koonce was the head of the school, according to Covenant’s website, which also lists she attended school in Nashville at Vanderbilt University and Trevecca Nazarene University, along with getting her master’s degree from Georgia State University.

Hill was a custodian at the school, according to Aaron. And Peak was working as a substitute teacher at the time of the attack, he said.

The incident is the 19th shooting at a school or university so far this year in which at least one person was wounded, according to a CNN tally. Last week, two faculty members were shot and wounded by a student at a high school in Denver, and the student was later found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

With six victims, Monday’s attack is the deadliest school shooting since the heinous attack in Uvalde, Texas, last May that left 21 people dead.

The Covenant School is a private Christian school founded in 2001 as a ministry of Covenant Presbyterian Church and teaches preschool through 6th grade, according to its website. On a typical day it has 209 students and 40 to 50 staff members, Aaron said.
The mass shooting garnered a massive police and fire response, and concerned families gathered outside the school to wait for word of their loved ones.

Avery Myrick, whose mother is a teacher at the school, told CNN affiliate WSMV her mom texted that she was hiding in a closet and could hear shooting all over the school. Myrick later spoke to her mother on the phone and learned she was safe.

“Just getting that initial phone call that she was OK, it obviously brings a ton of relief, but you’re still hurting for the people out there who may not get that call,” she said.

Jozen Reodica, who works at Shearwater Health across the street from the school, took video of police escorting students out of the school on Monday. In the video, the children are holding hands and walking in a line down the street.

She told CNN she realized something was wrong when she saw several police cars arrive at the scene.
“They (police) started to close down the roads. It happened so fast. I saw a policeman run to the scene and then after a few minutes kids were already crossing,” Reodica said.

Tennessee Bureau of Investigation Director David Rausch said the agency is assisting Metro Nashville Police Department on the investigation and will provide independent oversight on the officer-involved shooting aspect.

Police said they are working to analyze video from the school showing the shooting.

Biden urges Congress to act on gun laws
President Joe Biden said in a news conference the shooting was “sick” and “heartbreaking” and urged Congress to take further action on gun safety legislation.

“We have to do more to stop gun violence. It’s ripping our communities apart, ripping the soul of this nation, ripping at the very soul of the nation,” he said. “And we have to do more to protect our schools, so they aren’t turned into prisons.”

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre also called on lawmakers to pass laws addressing gun safety.
“How many more children have to be murdered before Republicans in Congress will step up and act to pass the assault weapons ban, to close loopholes in our background check system, or to require the safe storage of guns? We need to do something,” she said.

Madonna Added BOB The Drag Queen As Her Tour Opener To Protest Nashville’s ‘Pathetic’ Anti-LGBTQIA Ban
Recently, Tennessee banned drag performances from taking place on any public property in the state. This legislation has been met with protest, especially from indie-rockers Yo La Tengo, who performed in drag on their Nashville tour stop. Now, Madonna is fighting back as well.

The “Material Girl” singer is set to hit the road on her Celebration Tour with Caldwell Tidicue, who performs as Bob the Drag Queen. Today (March 27), she added an additional stop in Nashville on December 22. In a press release, she shared that proceeds from the concert will go to trans rights organizations.

“The oppression of the LGBTQ+ is not only unacceptable and inhumane; it’s creating an unsafe environment; it makes America a dangerous place for our most vulnerable citizens, especially trans women of color,” she said in a statement. “Also, these so-called laws to protect our children are unfounded and pathetic. Anyone with half a brain knows not to f*ck with a drag queen. Bob and I will see you from the stage in Nashville where we will celebrate the beauty that is the queer community.”

Former NFL MVP Lamar Jackson requests trade from Baltimore Ravens
Former NFL Most Valuable Player and Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson wrote on social media Monday that he has requested a trade from the team.

“As of March 2nd, I requested a trade from the Ravens organization for which the Ravens has not been interested in meeting my value, any and everyone that’s has met me or been around me know I love the game of football and my dream is to help a team win the super bowl,” the 26-year-old wrote.

On March 7, Baltimore applied the non-exclusive franchise tag on Jackson after failing to come to terms on a long-term contract over the last two years.

The tag means that Jackson is free to negotiate with other franchises, but should he sign an offer sheet with another team, the Ravens will have five days to either match the deal or receive two first-round picks in return. The non-exclusive tag comes with a salary-cap cost of $32.4 million for the 2023 season.

Ravens head coach John Harbaugh said Monday he wasn’t aware of Jackson’s message.

“I haven’t seen the tweet. It’s an ongoing process,” Harbaugh told reporters at the NFL owners’ meeting in Phoenix.

“I’m following it very closely just like everybody else is here and looking forward to a resolution. I’m excited, thinking about Lamar all the time, thinking about him as our quarterback. We’re building our offense around that idea and I’m just looking forward to getting back to football and I’m confident that’s going to happen.”

When asked when was the last time he has spoken with the quarterback, Harbaugh said: “It’s been a while. It’s going to have to be. It’s a unique situation, but when we get back together and I’m really hopeful that happens, that’s what I want to see. It’s going to be great.”

Jackson, who doesn’t have an agent, represents himself.

Ravens general manager Eric DeCosta said on March 7 that he hopes the two sides can agree to a long-term deal.
“We will continue to negotiate in good faith with Lamar, and we are hopeful that we can strike a long-term deal that is fair to both Lamar and the Ravens,” DeCosta said in a statement. “Our ultimate goal is to build a championship team with Lamar Jackson leading the way for many years to come.”

Gayle King, Charles Barkley Near Deal to Host CNN Primetime Show Amid Low ratings!
A news King and Sir Charles are getting ready to mix it up in an unorthodox way.
Gayle King and Charles Barkley are finalizing a deal that would have them jointly lead a primetime hour each week on CNN, according to people familiar with the matter. The pact is not complete and there is always the risk it may not come to fruition, one of these people says. CNN declined to make executives available for comment.

The Wall Street Journal previously reported that a deal involving King was nearing completion, but it has been an open secret in TV-news circles that CNN has been courting both personalities — and others like them — for some time. Puck reported on negotiations with both King and Barkley earlier this year.
CBS News declined to offer immediate comment on expectations it had for King, who is also the center of its “CBS Mornings” on weekdays — a critical generator of ad dolls for the Paramount Global news-and-stations division. A spokesperson for Warner Bros. Discovery Sports, which has relied on Barkley for years as a host of its popular “Inside the NBA,” could not be reached for immediate comment. Warner Bros. Discovery also owns CNN.

The move, if completed, would come as CNN grapples with a severe downturn in viewership as well as a massive overhaul that has in recent months included layoffs and a significant recalibration of its programming. Under CEO Chris Licht, CNN has devoted its 9 p.m. hour to a rotating array of topics and anchors, sometimes presented in the form of town halls, and on other days, in one-on-one interviews with celebrities.

Enlisting King and Barkley could give CNN something approximating one of its best-known success stories: “Larry King Live.” That program, which ran on CNN at 9 p.m. from 1985 to 2010, featured the titular host holding forth in an interview every night with a newsmaker or celebrity, often in less rigorous fashion than a hard-charging traditional journalist. At its height, the show could generate viewership of around one million.

The new CNN program with King and Barkley appears to be coming together just weeks before the TV industry’s annual “upfront” sales session, when U.S. media companies try to sell billions of dollars in advertising ahead of their next cycle of new programming. A King and Barkley duo would certainly give CNN and its corporate parent something to talk about with Madison Avenue.

Real Housewives of Salt Lake City Star Jen Shah's Prison Sentence Reduced By One Year
Jen Shah's return to freedom is coming sooner than she thought.
The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City star is now scheduled to be released on Aug. 30, 2028, according to the Federal Bureau of Prison's inmate database. The new date is a full year earlier than the Bravo star's original sentence after she reported to Bryan Federal Prison Camp in Bryan, Texas Feb. 17.

While it's unclear why Jen's incarceration release date has been moved up, her team offered an update on how the 49-year-old is doing behind bars.

"I have spoken with my client Jen Shah over the phone this week—she is doing well and remains committed towards making her victims whole," Jen's rep told People March 26. "She has initiated her payments towards restitution, and we hope to have her home as soon as possible so that she may resume life with her family and work, putting this chapter of her life behind her."

Jen's legal battle began when she was arrested on wire fraud and money laundering charges in connection with a telemarketing scheme in March 2021.
While she initially pleaded not guilty to federal charges of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and money laundering, Jen changed her plea in federal court in July 2022.

During the proceedings, Jen stated that she had "agreed with others to commit with wire fraud" and "knew it misled" many victims, some of whom she said were over the age of 55. "I knew it was wrong," Jen told the court via NBC News. "Many people were harmed and I'm so sorry."

Since entering prison, Jen—who is a mom to Sharrieff Jr., 29, and Omar, 19—has provided followers a glimpse into her mindset. In a recent post, the reality star described the moment she said goodbye to her family, including husband Sharrieff Shah.

"Having seconds to tell your husband how much you love him and hoping he truly understands the depths of your love while officers stand there silently urging you to move quickly was the most horrible experience," she wrote on Instagram March 9. "It's as if you know your world is ending and you have 30 seconds to tell the people you love how much you love them and hope they feel your love and understand its magnitude."

One day later, Jen said she is trying to stay patient and not get frustrated as she looks forward to connecting with her family in any way possible.

"I must learn to focus on what I can and cannot control," she shared on social media. "That will be the key to my adjustment. I am not alone in my struggles and I must remember that on days where I want to just see my husband and children."
E! News has reached out to Jen's rep for comment and hasn't heard back.

L.A. Chargers defensive tackle Sebastian Joseph-Day accuses TSA agents of sexual assault
Los Angeles Chargers defensive tackle Sebastian Joseph-Day accused a male Transportation Security Administration officer of sexually assaulting him before a recent flight out of Southern California.
The incident happened Friday morning at John Wayne Airport, in Orange County, according to Joseph-Day, 28, who won a 2022 Super Bowl ring with the Los Angeles Rams.

"I really just got sexually assaulted by TSA," Joseph-Day told followers on Twitter. "After I asked the gentleman to please stop BC I’m uncomfortable and I feel that this part of the check is unnecessary (After he felt what was needed). Then they told me I was the problem after 3 TSA agents swarmed me."

Joseph-Day didn't go into any greater detail, and he couldn't immediately be reached for comment Monday.

"I’m all for people doing their job well. But it was extremely unnecessary and dehumanizing," he added in his statement on Twitter.
"I’m not sharing this on Twitter for sympathy. I’m sharing this so this group of gentleman and staff aren’t allowed to do this ever again to another human being," Joseph-Day wrote.
The TSA is speaking with the officers involved and reviewing security video of the incident, an administration official said Monday.

“TSA is aware of allegations made by a traveler who was screened by TSA officers at John Wayne Airport Friday morning. We are looking into the matter to determine if our procedures were followed and whether any corrective action needs to be taken," a TSA statement said.

“TSA remains committed to treating every traveler with dignity and respect while carrying out our security screening responsibilities.”

Joseph-Day also tagged the airport, the city of Irvine, Orange County and the Orange County Sheriff's Department in his statement.

An airport representative declined to comment Monday beyond the TSA statement, and officials with the city, county and sheriff's department could not immediately be reached.
Joseph-Day, a Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, native, played football at Rutgers before he was drafted by the Rams.

His last game with the Rams was on Feb. 13, when they defeated the Cincinnati Bengals, 23-20, in the Super Bowl.
He signed a free -agent contract with the Chargers a month after the Super Bowl and played in 16 games for them last season.

Backstreet Boys' AJ McLean and Wife Rochelle Separating After Nearly 12 Years of Marriage
AJ McLean and Rochelle DeAnna McLean are not playing games when it comes to their relationship.
And because of that, the Backstreet Boys singer and his wife of more than a decade have decided to separate—for now. "Marriage is hard, but worth it," they told E! News in a statement March 27. "We have mutually decided to separate temporarily to work on ourselves, and on our marriage with the hope of building a stronger future."

"The plan is to come back together and continue to nurture our love for one another, and our family," their statement continued. "We ask for respect and privacy at this time."

The pair—who got married in Dec. 2011 at the Beverly Hills Hotel—share two children together Elliott, 10, and Lyric, 6.

In between performing Backstreet Boys' biggest hits around the world, AJ competed on season 29 of Dancing With the Stars in 2020 with partner Cheryl Burke.

"She's my superhero," he told Us Weekly after the September 2020 performance. "She has been through hell and back with me. If there was an award for everything that she does on the daily, she deserves them all. The greatest reward that I get from her on the daily is just a constant affirmation of love. She's always there for me, it doesn't matter what it is. She's very supportive. She's a great listener. We have amazing conversations—sometimes until the wee hours of the morning."

And while the singer admitted to not always being the easiest husband, he expressed gratitude for Rochelle's support.

"She's always seen the good in me and seen past—as hard as it may be to see past—all the bad stuff I did when I was drinking and using drugs," he said. "But things are the best they've ever been today, and I couldn't ask for anything else."
TMZ was first to report the separation.

Martha Reeves faces funding deadline for Hollywood Walk of Fame star: ‘Down to the wire’
When Martha Reeves was selected in 2021 for a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, her journey to one of the most famous destinations in showbiz was actually just beginning.

That June, the Motown singer was thrilled to learn she’d been picked for the Walk of Fame, joining the array of celebrities whose stars line the gilded sidewalks of Hollywood and Vine. Having been nominated by a former manager, Reeves was greenlighted by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, which oversees the popular tourist landmark.

Unbeknownst to much of the public, those iconic sidewalk stars come with a price tag — $55,000 is the going figure — to cover installation and other costs. For some recipients, the fee is covered by a related movie studio, record label or generous friend. But honorees often must launch fundraising efforts, private and public, just as Motown’s Funk Brothers did to secure their star in 2013.

Reeves, 81, said she was assured by the former manager that funding for the star was handled. She was confident her Hollywood ceremony would take place the following year, telling the Free Press in 2021: “My wildest dreams are coming true.”

But that turned out not to be the case — and now the clock is ticking. If Reeves’ star isn’t funded by June, her two-year nomination window will expire.

And so her new manager has launched a public fundraising campaign, hoping to secure $55,000 by June and seal Reeves’ slot on the 2024 Walk of Fame calendar. Fans can donate by credit card or check, and details are available at the recently launched MarthaReeves.net.

“Martha’s former representation got in over their heads on this,” said Chris Roe, a veteran Los Angeles talent agent who signed on last summer as Reeves’ manager. “They didn’t realize how hard it would be and wasted a year of fundraising time. Now we’re down to the wire.”

Along with the crowdfunding campaign, Roe said he’s working with private benefactors and corporations to hit the $55,000 mark. If the effort is successful, donors’ names will be listed in an official printed program at the Walk of Fame ceremony. (Contributors may also request anonymity.)

Once a Walk of Fame ceremony is scheduled, Roe said, he would then solicit another round of money — upwards of $25,000 — to fund Reeves’ Hollywood reception. Roe has held Hollywood Walk of Fame fundraising campaigns for two other clients, actor Malcom McDowell (2012) and late filmmaker George A. Romero (2017).

“It doesn’t take much to make a huge impact,” he said. “Doing without three or four Starbucks coffees for a week is a pretty nice contribution. A donation of $25 goes a long way.”
The Hollywood Walk of Fame campaign comes as Reeves marks her 60th anniversary with Motown.

In 1963, the label issued the first two albums by Martha and the Vandellas — “Come and Get These Memories” and “Heat Wave” — when the trio began a run of hits that include “Heat Wave,” “Quicksand,” “Dancing in the Street,” “Nowhere to Run,” “Jimmy Mack,” among others.

A limited-edition art print marking the group’s 60th anniversary is available for $100, with all proceeds earmarked for the Walk of Fame effort. Some of those prints will be available at an upcoming listening party hosted by Reeves, who will revisit the pair of 1963 albums.

If the Hollywood Walk of Fame fundraising succeeds, Reeves will become the latest Motown luminary with a sidewalk star, part of a roll call that includes Diana Ross (1982), Smokey Robinson (1983), Michael Jackson (1984), Marvin Gaye (1990), Stevie Wonder (1994), the Temptations (1994), Four Tops (1997) and label founder Berry Gordy (1996). In November 2019, near a cluster of Motown sidewalk stars at Sunset Boulevard and Argyle Avenue, Gordy was on hand as Hollywood officials christened the corner “Berry Gordy Square.”

Reeves' manager said he is determined to hit the $55,000 mark and secure her spot among fellow Motown stars.

“This honor bestowed upon Martha has meant a lot," Roe said. "That star is there for generations to come, and Motown will always be stitched into the fabric of our society. So, it’s a great accomplishment. Martha is very deserving, and I’m happy to take her across the finish line.”

Beyonce Ranked 8th Most Influential Black Celebrity
The most influential Black celebrities on social media were recently revealed and you won’t guess who was listed at the top. New research was used by analysing Instagram and Twitter followings as well as follower engagement rates.
Beyoncรฉ ranks eighth on the list of social media’s most influential black celebrities, with an influence score of 75.86 out of 100. The legendary singer and songwriter has 294.7 million followers on Instagram and 15.7 million followers on Twitter
French footballer Kylian Mbappรฉ ranks as the most influential black celebrity on social media, with a social media influence score of 93.18 out of 100. It is worth noting this is well above the average engagement rate for any user on either platform, which is 0.98% for Instagram and 0.04% for Twitter.

The study, conducted by Black lifestyle brand That Sister, used data to create a combined social media influence score for more than 20 of the most popular Black celebrities. The overall score took into account the number of followers each celebrity has on Instagram and Twitter, as well as their audience engagement rates on both platforms.

Aaron Hernandez’s Brother Arrested For Allegedly Throwing Brick At ESPN Headquarters
Aaron Hernandez‘s brother, Dennis “D.J.” Hernandez, was arrested last week for allegedly throwing a brick at ESPN’s headquarters with a note attached.
The incident happened on March 23 around 3 pm, right after police did a welfare check on D.J. after he had allegedly said he wanted to smash the windows at the Capitol Hil and the famed Bristol, CT ESPN campus.

Police said an Uber arrived on the campus grounds but was turned away. However, the passenger got out of the car, threw a brick, got back into the car, and left.

A large brick was inside a white plastic bag and contained a note:
“To all media outlets,” cops say the message read. “It’s about time you all realeyes the affect media has on all family members. Since you’re a world wide leader maybe you could lead how media and messages are delivered brick by brick. Clean it up!”

The note was signed, “Yours truly, Dennis J. Hernandez.”
Police eventually made contact with D.J., who confessed to being on ESPN’s grounds but didn’t want to talk about the incident. He was arrested for misdemeanor breach of peace but was released on a promise to appear in court next month.

The 36-year-old was very close with his brother and the tight end of the New England Patriots. He decided to go by his middle name after his brother’s murder case. Hernandez died in 2017 of suicide after being convicted and sent to jail.

Florida School Removes ‘Ruby Bridges’ Movie Following Parental Complaint
Blame Florida man Ron DeSantis. The classic Disney movie “Ruby Bridges” has been a staple in Black History Month lessons for years, but this year it’s causing some major heat.  One parent at North Shore Elementary in Pinellas, Florida, complained that the film wasn’t appropriate for second graders because it had racial slurs and white people were threatening Ruby.  She was worried that kids might learn that white people hate Black people.

Florida School Removes 'Ruby Bridges' Movie Following Parental Complaint
So what happened?  Pinellas school officials responded by banning the movie for ALL students at North Shore until a review committee could assess it.  But now there’s a group that represents the interests of Black children in Pinellas public schools, and they’re questioning why one parent’s complaint resulted in actions that affect all families at North Shore.  They’re even wondering if the education system in Pinellas County can even serve the diverse community fairly and equitably.

This isn’t the first time Pinellas County has been in hot water over censoring educational materials.  Just earlier this year, Toni Morrison’s “The Bluest Eye” was banned from all district high schools after one parent complained about a two-page rape scene.  District officials cited new state law and a rule telling them to “err on the side of caution” when considering whether books should be used in classrooms and libraries
