#RHOA: Do YOU agree? The New York Times Has Named Shereé Whitfield One of the “93 Most Stylish ‘People’”

The New York Times Has Named Shereé Whitfield One of the “93 Most Stylish ‘People’”

Earlier this week, The New York Times released its list of the “93 Most Stylish ‘People’ of 2022.” Although the roundup includes a wide variety of honorees, as the outlet put it, “All have at least one thing in common. At some point over the past 12 months, they made us talk: about how we dress, how we live and how we choose to express ourselves.” Over here in the Bravoverse, no one had more buzzed-about fashions this year than Shereé Whitfield, and with an official spot on the list, The New York Times clearly agrees.

In a brief blurb, the outlet explained that Shereé is included (along with Rihanna, Zendaya, Harry Styles, and, yes, the spotted lanternfly,) because “After 14 years, The Real Housewives of Atlanta cast member launched her long- awaited clothing line, SHE by Shereé.”

Shereé’s highly anticipated fashion show was documented on the September 4 episode of RHOA. Despite a few bumps in the road leading up to the event, it was ultimately a success, with Shereé debuting “a total of 24 looks, plus a few extras.”

Before SHE by Shereé launched, Kandi Burruss opened up about how it was already incredibly well known. “I think you have the biggest brand out of this group,” she said on RHOA’s July 24 episode, clarifying that it was technically “not a brand” until it launched.

Shereé was quick to agree with Kandi. “I joke about it all the time. People still to this day…” she started, as Kandi finished, “…know SHE by Shereé.”

#HipHopNews: Megan Thee Stallion's Ex-BFF Kelsey Testifies Raptress Was 'Drunk' Before Shooting Incident

It's time for Kelsey Nicole Harris to take the stand on trial over the July 2020 shooting incident involving Megan Thee Stallion and Tory Lanez. In wild court testimony, Kelsey, who's Megan's former best friend, said under oath that the raptress was indeed "drunk" before the incident happened.

On Wednesday, December 14, the third day of trial in Los Angeles, Kelsey testified that the Houston Hottie was "acting out and drunk" at the party, which was held at Kylie Jenner's house on July 12, 2020. Then a key moment came when prosecutor Kathy Ta asked if Tory had threatened to shoot her, she refused to answer questions by taking the Fifth. Previously, she testified that Tory threatened to shoot her.

Kelsey also addressed accusations that she shot Megan while testifying, calling the theory "ridiculous." Kelsey spent a little less than 40 minutes on the stand, saying a lot of her memory of the party was "blurry" because of alcohol consumption.

Elsewhere during the testimony at the Clara Shortridge Foltz Criminal Justice Center, Kelsey asked for immunity. It was granted even after the District Attorney swore they had no intent to prosecute her.

On the stand, Kelsey described the trial as a "triggering situation," adding that she doesn't "care to be here today." She elaborated, "This is happening in the face of a million people, my name being thrown around, lies. I didn't ask to be in this."

The trial over the shooting incident involving Megan and Tory began on Monday, December 12. Tory is facing three felony counts and could face up to 23 years in prison if convicted.

In the last two days, Tory has denied being the one to pull the trigger at the time. Megan also testified in court on Tuesday, detailing the night in question from her perspective. She first denied Tory's legal team's claim that she was kicked out of Kylie's party because she was drunk and irate. She testified that she left the bash because her wig was cooking loose and she began to feel uncomfortable.

Then when she exited the venue, Meg heard Tory shout, "Dance b***h." She also claimed she then saw him with the gun pointing at her before getting shot. She confessed she started to go into shock at that point.

After Tory shot her, Megan alleged that he told her, "Don't say anything and I'll give you a million dollars," adding he was already on probation. She added she remembers thinking about how he seemed more concerned about possibly going to jail than shooting her.

Meg also explained why she lied to the police directly after the incident, telling them she stepped on glass, not that she was shot in the foot. "I'm in shock. I'm scared. I hear the gun going off, and I can't believe he's shooting at me," she said, "At the time, we are at the height of police brutality. I felt like if I said this man has just shot me, they might shoot first and ask questions later. I don't feel safe with the police officers. In the black community, it's not really acceptable to be cooperating with police officers."

Through tears, Megan described the effect that the whole ordeal has had on her. "I can't even be happy. I wish he would have just shot and killed me if I knew I had to go through this torture," she said.

During her testimony, Megan confirmed that she had an intimate relationship with Tory, but admitted that hooking up with someone who allegedly shot her left her feeling "embarrassed." The Hot Girl Meg added, "Tory came out and told so many different lies, about me not being shot, about him not being the shooter, and making this all about a sex scandal."

Kanye West’s ‘Yeezy’ Company Is Getting Evicted From Calabasas Office

Kanye West’s problems just keep piling up after the owner of his ‘Yeezy’ offices in Los Angeles filed to evict the company, claiming they are behind on their rent.

According to new legal documents, obtained by The Blast, a company named ‘CT Calabasas’ claims the ‘Yeezy Apparel’ company is behind by at least two months of rent. The legal case is what’s called an “unlawful detainer” of their property, and they want him out in 72 hours unless it’s paid in full.

Kanye’s company is being accused of owing $63,254 in back rent.

In the filing, the company claims it signed a deal with Kanye’s brand way back in 2015 when it was still called ‘West Brands Fashion.’ But, in 2016 they say Yeezy Apparel merged with Kanyes’ other company “thereby succeeding West Brand’s interest in the lease. At the time, Yeezy agreed to pay $31,477.40 a month for the office space. At this point, the landlord claims it hasn’t been paid for November or December and wants him out!

The company is giving the rapper/designer 3 days to make a payment, or else.

“Within three days after service of this notice on you, you must pay the amount of said rent in full or quit said premises and deliver up possession of the same to the authorized agent for your landlord,” the eviction notice reads.

It adds, “If you fail to pay or quit, legal proceedings will be instituted against you for possession of the premises, forfeiture of the agreement, and for monetary damages as may be allowed by law. You are further notified that by this Notice the Landlord elects to and does hereby declare a forfeiture of said Lease if said rent is not paid in full within three (3) days.”

This isn’t just any normal business office either. Yeezy is occupying over 15,000 square feet of office space, and it is called his “design studio.”

‘Pin Up’ magazine featured the amazing space in an article, pointing out it was designed by his longtime collaborator Willo Perron. It has a similar style to the home he shared with Kim Kardashian, including minimalistic and concrete-looking walls and floors. Perron has worked with other celebrities including Kendrick Lamar and Rihanna.

The space currently contains a mix of production facilities for his Yeezy-brand clothing line, a recording studio, and design spaces. According to the magazine, “West has also started up a so-called “Yeezy Home” arm of his eponymous creative studio. The endeavor includes architectural and urban design in West’s growing collaborative art practice, which already includes music, film, fashion, and performance art initiatives.”

DJ Stephen 'Twitch' Boss Checked Into Motel One Day Before Body Found

We're learning more about the details surrounding the sudden and tragic death of DJ Stephen "tWitch" Boss ... including what those who interacted with him in the hours leading up to his suicide say they observed.

Sources with direct knowledge tell us Stephen checked into a motel less than one mile from his L.A. home Monday morning. We spoke with motel staffers who say he didn't appear to be in any sort of distress and wasn't visibly upset about anything. We're told the 40-year-old only had a small bag with him and had booked the room for only one night.

It was on Tuesday when tWitch missed his checkout and employees went to his room, where they found him deceased in the bathroom from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The staffers we spoke with said no one heard gunfire at any point during tWitch's stay -- which is possible given the motel's layout -- it has separate units, and the structure is in a U-shape.

Stephen's wife, Allison, was frantic when she reported her husband missing -- saying it was not like him at all, and that he'd left his car at home.

It was around 11:15 AM Tuesday when paramedics were called to the hotel and pronounced tWitch dead at the scene.

In a heartfelt post, Ellen DeGeneres paid tribute to her friend, saying, "I'm heartbroken. tWitch was pure love and light. He was my family, and I loved him with all my heart. I will miss him. Please send your love and support to Allison and his beautiful children - Weslie, Maddox, and Zaia."

Gunna Is Smiles As He Walks Out Of Jail

Gunna has officially regained his freedom back after spending months behind bars. The Georgia rapper has been released from jail after pleading guilty to a racketeering conspiracy charge in a sweeping gang indictment against him.

The 29-year-old was seen walking out of the Fulton County Jail on Wednesday afternoon, December 14. In footage which has circulated online, he smiled as he was greeted by a woman dressing in all-black waiting outside.

The identity of the woman remains a mystery, but she appears to have a special relationship with Gunna. The two shared a hug outside the jail with the "Pushin P" emcee squeezing her butt. They walked hand-in-hand while heading to an awaiting car.

Gunna was arrested in May among 28 persons associated with YSL, who were charged in a 56-count Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO) indictment. The label boss and fellow rapper Young Thug was among those arrested and faces multiple charges.

While Thugger remains in jail, Gunna pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to violate the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act earlier on Wednesday. He took an Alford plea, meaning that he entered a guilty plea to the one charge while maintaining his innocence on that same charge as a form of self-preservation. He was sentenced to five years in prison, but it was commuted to time served.

In a statement after agreeing to plead guilty, he said, "While I have agreed to always be truthful, I want to make it perfectly clear that I have NOT made any statements, have NOT been interviewed, have NOT cooperated, have NOT agreed to testify or be a witness for or against any party in the case and have absolutely NO intention of being involved in the trial process in any way."

"I have chosen to end my own RICO case with an Alford plea and end my personal ordeal by publicly acknowledging my association with YSL," he added. "An Alford plea in my case is the entry of a guilty plea to the one charge against me, which is in my best interest, while at the same time maintaining my innocence toward the same charge."

Trying to maintain a good relationship with his label, he said, "I love and cherish my association with YSL music, and always will. I look at this as an opportunity to give back to my community and educate young men and women that 'gangs' and violence only lead to destruction."

Idris Elba Develops Cooking Show, Sparks Bidding War Among Streaming Giants

Idris Elba has caused a bidding war between the likes of Netflix and Disney for a new cooking show. The "Luther" actor is allegedly looking into becoming a TV chef and exploring his roots in the new series, which is yet to go into production but already has three streaming giants interested in the rights.

"Idris has created a television show all about exploring his roots. Idris will be seen going through his past and exploring his family's heritage and culture. Word has got around and Netflix, Disney and Paramount+ have all shown interest. There is a bidding war going on but Idris is still working out where he thinks the show would be best placed," an insider told The Sun newspaper's TVBiz column.

Although Idris and his production company signed a first look deal with Apple TV+, he is still able to "take the show elsewhere." The source added, "He has a first-look deal with Apple TV+ and his production company Green Door Pictures but he can take the show elsewhere. Idris is a perfectionist and he will want everything to be just right before he decides who to go with."

The 50-year-old has been keeping busy and, just last week, he was awarded an honorary doctorate at Ravensbourne University London at the school's annual ceremony marking the graduation of 800 students of the creative and digital industries.

Addressing the students, Idris said, "Education is the exact foundation that I am standing on here today. Because of my education, I got to go places that I never even dreamed of going to. I wanted to be in the creative arts because I wanted to contribute, I wanted to have a seat at the table, I wanted to have someone that looked like me, to have something to offer, and my education prepared me for that."

"Ravensbourne stands for the very same values, putting skillsets in students and giving them an opportunity to have a seat at the table forever. So many amazing students have come from here and are still contributing. The truth is the learning always continues. I am super proud of this, because it’s an honour, but also, now, you lot can call me Doctor Dris."

Elon Musk loses title of world’s richest person to Bernard Arnault

Elon Musk has lost his crown as the world’s richest person, after further falls in the value of shares in his electric car company Tesla.

Forbes and Bloomberg, which track the wealth of billionaires, reported that Musk had lost the top spot to France’s Bernard Arnault, the chief executive of the luxury group LVMH.

South Africa-born Musk, who recently took ownership of Twitter, is the chief executive of Tesla and its largest shareholder. The electric car company has lost more than half of its market value since Musk first made a bid for Twitter in April.

Shares in Tesla were trading at $340.79 (£275.27) on 13 April, the day before Twitter revealed in a securities filing that the billionaire had made a hostile bid worth $43.4bn. Since then, the Tesla share price has tumbled by more than 50%, and it is currently trading at about $160.

Fresh falls in the car company’s share price at the start of the week wiped about $7bn off Musk’s fortune, according to Forbes. It calculates that he is now worth about $177bn, compared with Arnault’s net worth of $188bn.

Arnault had briefly overtaken Musk a week ago as a result of share movements, before the Tesla chief retook the top spot. Musk has sold about $20bn of Tesla shares since April to fund his purchase of Twitter.

Tesla’s market value has come under pressure partly as a result of disappointing quarterly results, and concern about disruption at one of its factories in Shanghai.

Investors have expressed worry that Musk may be distracted by his other ventures, including the rocket company SpaceX and running Twitter. He also regularly attracts criticism for some of the controversial tweets he writes to his 121 million followers.

In recent days, Musk appeared to be taken by surprise when he was booed by the audience after joining the comedian Dave Chappelle on stage in San Francisco, who introduced Musk with the line: “Ladies and gentlemen, make some noise for the richest man in the world.”

Monique Coleman says Disney "broke my heart" with the High School Musical 3 promotional tour

While the main leads of Disney’s teen opera High School Musical were Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens’ clique-crossed lovers Troy and Gabriella, the true stars of the film series were East High School’s chorus of side characters. One of those highlights was Taylor McKessie, Gabriella’s best friend and the school’s queen of academics, played by actor Monique Coleman. For the Gimme Mo’ producer, though, one negative experience with the musical franchise left her heartbroken, as she revealed recently while sitting in on former Disney star Christy Carlson Romano’s podcast Vulnerable.

During the podcast, Romano and Coleman’s conversation veered towards the one-time Suite Life Of Zack & Cody actor’s breakthrough role in High School Musical, with her revealing that Disney didn’t invite her to join the third film’s promotional tour.

“I feel safe to say this: Disney really broke my heart,” said Coleman. “When I got to the third movie, I really championed the film. I always spoke so positively, and I was a Black girl playing the smartest girl in school, which was a very big deal at that time. When it came to promoting the third movie, I wasn’t invited on the tour. They said something about there not being enough room on the plane and they only invited Zach [Efron], Vanessa [Hudgens], Ashley [Tisdale], and Corbin [Bleu]. Lucas [Grabeel] and I weren’t included.”

Detailing how she went into a “bit of depression” after the incident, Coleman described moving through her “heartbreak” by finding a balance between people’s love of her High School Musical character and her own self.

“To be in a position to where I had the wherewithal and to take that out into the world and say, ‘You know what? I’m not going to feel reduced to Taylor McKessie,’” said Coleman. “I’m gonna rise up and actually walk in the door and let people see me and connect this character that was their childhood with who Monique Coleman is and I’m gonna leave a message that lets you know that your dreams are also possible.”

Even though Coleman has a good reason to not want to work with the company again, it seems that the two have made amends. She recently teased her return to the franchise in High School Musical: The Musical: The Series’ upcoming fourth season. While she’ll be playing a fictional version of herself (the meta series is about students at the high school where High School Musical was filmed), we will get to see a reunion between her and a few other past Wildcats.

James Gunn Writing New ‘Superman’ Film; Henry Cavill Will Not Return, but Eyed to Play Different DC Character

Things are heating up in Metropolis, as DC Studios co-head James Gunn has announced he is writing a new feature film about Superman. In step with the new project, Gunn has also revealed that Henry Cavill will not return as the hero.

“Peter & I have a DC slate ready to go, which we couldn’t be more over-the-moon about; we’ll be able to share some exciting information about our first projects at the beginning of the new year,” the director-turned-label-chief tweeted Wednesday evening.

“Among those on the slate is Superman. In the initial stages, our story will be focusing on an earlier part of Superman’s life, so the character will not be played by Henry Cavill. But we just had a great meeting with Henry and we’re big fans and we talked about a number of exciting possibilities to work together in the future.”

Sources close to DC told Variety that Gunn, his co-president Peter Safran and Cavill met recently and are all energized to find something in the comic book universe for Cavill to tackle.

Cavill confirmed the he would not be reprising the role of Superman in a statement shared on Instagram.

“It’s sad news, everyone. I will, after all, not be returning as Superman. After being told by the studio to announce my return back in October, prior to their hire, this news isn’t the easiest, but that’s life,” Cavill wrote. “I respect that James and Peter have a universe to build. I wish them and all involved with the new universe the best of luck, and the happiest of fortunes.”

Gunn has been at work on the new Superman story for some time, insiders say. The script will focus on the character’s life as a cub reporter in the fictional city of Metropolis. Audiences will encounter him meeting key characters, like colleague Lois Lane, insiders added. Additionally, Variety sources said the new Gunn project will not replace the previously announced J.J. Abrams-Ta-Nehisi Coates Superman concept (which is still in active development).

Cavill isn’t the only star from the last DC era to sit down with Gunn and Safran. Ben Affleck — who has played Batman in numerous films from the label — recently sat down to specifically discuss the prospect of directing an upcoming DC feature, individuals familiar with those talks said.

The Superman news comes after a week of headlines following Warner Bros. decision to not move forward with a new “Wonder Woman” movie with director Patty Jenkins. On Tuesday, Jenkins tweeted a lengthy statement saying she was “was open to considering anything asked of me” in regards to a potential third project, which was scrapped. Shortly after, Gunn responded with support, saying to Jenkins on Twitter, “I can attest that all of Peter and my interactions with you were only pleasant and professional.”

As Gunn stated Monday, more details on the reimagined DC Universe are expected to come in January.

Tyler Perry Directing Netflix Movie About All-Black Women Battalion in World War II

Tyler Perry has locked down his next big feature. According to Variety, the multi-hyphenate has signed on to write and direct Netflix’s Six Triple Eight, a World War II drama about an all-Black, all-women battalion that served overseas. The screenplay is based on a Kevin M. Hymel article published in WWII History Magazine by Sovereign Media. The film will tell the inspiring story of the 6888th Postal Directory Battalion, a troop of nearly 900 Black women who were tasked with fixing and sorting through a three-year backlog of undelivered mail.

“A herculean task, that most thought to be impossible, the women not only succeeded but did it in half the time they were given,” Netflix’s synopsis reads. “Facing discrimination, unfamiliar land, and a war-torn country, they persevered and sorted over 17 million pieces of mail, reconnecting American soldiers with their families and loved ones back home. The motto that kept them going each day was one they created themselves: ‘No Mail, Low Morale.’ The women of the 6888 weren’t just delivering mail, they were delivering hope.”

Perry’s involvement in the film comes nine months after President Joe Biden signed a bill recognizing the accomplishments of the 6888th Battalion. Each member was granted the Congressional Gold Medal, the highest Congressional honor for distinguished achievements and contributions.

According to the Associated Press, only half a dozen or so battalion members are still living.

Rep. Gwen Moore (D-WI 4th District), who sponsored the bill, said, “The Six Triple Eight was a trailblazing group of heroes who were the only all-Black, Women Army Corps Battalion to serve overseas during World War II. … These women sorted millions of pieces of mail, closing massive mail backlogs, and ensuring service members received letters from their loved ones. A Congressional Gold Medal is only fitting for these veterans who received little recognition for their service after returning home.”

Perry will produce Six Triple Eight alongside Nicole Avant for Her Excellency Productions; Keri Selig for Intuition Productions; Carlota Espinosa; as well as Angi Bones and Tony Strickland for Tyler Perry Studios. Mandalay Pictures’ Peter Guber will serve as executive producer.

Six Triple Eight marks the fourth Netflix film directed by Perry, following 2020’s A Fall From Grace, and 2022’s A Madea Homecoming and A Jazzman’s Blues. The studio has yet to announce any information about casting.

Carolines on Broadway is closing after 40 years!

Carolines on Broadway — the Times Square comedy club that just announced that it’s closing on January 1st after 40 years — has sent out the final installment of its famous irreverent holiday card.

It begins, as it does every year, “May the holidays bring …”

Highlights this year include: “A Taylor Swift song about how Ticketmaster did her wrong,” “An exit strategy for Nick Cannon’s penis,” “Gisele [Bundchen] deflating Tom [Brady’s] balls,” and “Jada [Pinkett Smith’s] husband exercising a little more Will power,” “fewer men having a say about a woman’s right to choose,” and “a good dentist to wire Ye’s mouth shut permanently.”

They also paid tribute to those who were lost this year, with hope for “Bob [Saget] and Gilbert [Gottfried] regaling God with their raunchiest versions of the Aristocrats,” and “Sainthood for Betty White.”

The club’s owner Caroline Hirsch recently announced to the New York Post “I did not renew my lease. New Year’s Eve will be our last night.” She explained, “My landlord felt they can get a lot more for the space.”

The legendary club has seen A-list acts like Jerry Seinfeld, Billy Crystal, Jon Stewart, Joy Behar, Jimmy Fallon, Michael Che, Robin Williams, Conan O’Brien and Larry David.

Hirsch, who also helps produce the New York Comedy Festival told the Post, “This is heart-stabbing for me. I love my staff. I love my comedians.”

But it seems she has some ideas for the futures. “I see this as not the end of Carolines, but a new chapter continuing to produce world-class comedy,” Hirsch said.

Fan Removed From Bucks-Warriors Game For Allegedly Threatening Draymond Green

Draymond Green and the Golden State Warriors visited the Milwaukee Bucks on Tuesday night. During the game, Green could be seen speaking to a fan. Moments later, Green alerted the official of the conversation, leading to the fan’s ejection.

The incident occurred in the third quarter as Green lined up on the free throw line while Giannis Antentokounmpo was shooting. In the postgame, Green stated the fan said, “some threatening things to my life.”

Green stated he once thought about escalating the confrontation but kept his composure and spoke to a referee. The ref would get security and have the fan escorted out of the game.

“Some people look at NBA players like they’re superhuman,” Green said to ESPN. “That they’re this larger-than-life figure. So you come, and you get someone to say something back, and they get fined. They go home and laugh with their buddies.

“I think it’s just one of those things when you can hold it in and get to the ref and get them out; it’s great.”

Wendy Williams’ Ex Husband Is Planning A Biopic

Last month Wendy Williams’ ex-husband Kelvin Hunter didan interview with The Westside Gazette about his life growing up and his life with Wendy. During the interview he share where he made mistakes by not forming his own production company.

Yo, first of all Wendy was working for Kiss Radio. It dissolved into Hot 97 where Wendy and only a few others were retained. But in that agreement, she didn’t make more money, her pay remained the same. I began to tell her how great she really was and how valuable she was in the media market. Since they weren’t trying to pay her more, we set out to get her out of her contract. She had a 2 year non-compete contract. Listen, Hot 97 had all the lawyers in the area on retainer and no Entertainment lawyer would take our case and we decided to hire a criminal lawyer that I knew, to get out of a radio contract. It was fought out in Federal Court and if she didn’t get out of that deal you wouldn’t have heard of her. But he fought and won her freedom from them. Not long after that Wendy filled in at Fox Network Good Morning New York Show and the numbers were crazy. I knew then she could be special at this. This was when I began managing her full-time. After going thru a pilot for a TV show where she would’ve been paired with Comedian Monique and a couple of other set ups, we eventually landed with the Debmar-Mercury Company.

Honestly my biggest mistake was not forming our own Production Company and shopping our own show. You know Yo, I was intimidated by a world that I didn’t know I could dominate. That’s all to it.

Now Kelvin claims he’s working on a biopic about his life.

Kevin breaks the news in a comment on Instagram.

The NBA Has Renamed its MVP Trophy After Michael Jordan

Basketball great Michael Jordan can add another accolade to his mighty list of accomplishments — but this time, rather than receiving the trophy, he is the trophy, after the NBA unveiled the Chicago Bulls legend as the face of its latest Most Valuable Player (MVP) award.

The Michael Jordan Trophy, which will be awarded to the NBA’s regular season MVP, is one of six newly designed awards created to honor “the league pioneers who helped define the standards of excellence that these trophies represent,” the NBA said in a statement on Tuesday.

Jordan won the MVP award five times during his career, which spanned 15 NBA seasons in total: 13 with the Chicago Bulls (1984/85 through 1992/93 then 1994/95 through 1997/98) and two seasons with the Washington Wizards (2001/02 and 2002/03).

Widely considered to be the best basketball player ever, Jordan played in 1,072 NBA games, racking up 32,292 regular season points, 6,672 rebounds, 5,633 assists and 2,514 steals. He was a 10-time league scoring champion, made nine all-defensive teams in his career and was named Finals MVP six times.

The bronze trophy — which will be manufactured yearly by artist Victor Solomon — features a player breaking out of a rock to reach for a crystal basketball and is packed full of tiny details which nod to Jordan’s achievements.

The trophy is 23.6 inches tall and weighs 23.6 pounds, representing Jordan’s iconic jersey number (23) and number of NBA championships (6).

“Our new collection of trophies celebrates some of the greatest and most impactful players in the history of the NBA,” said NBA Commissioner Adam Silver. “As we recognize the league’s top performers each season, we also pay tribute to the legends who embody these prestigious awards.”

The NBA Clutch Player of the Year — a new award designed to recognize the player who “best comes through for his teammates in the clutch” — will receive the Jerry West Trophy, the Hakeem Olajuwon trophy will go to NBA Defensive Player of the Year, the Wilt Chamberlain Trophy will be awarded to the Rookie of the Year, the John Havlicek Trophy will go to the NBA Sixth Man of the Year and the George Mikan Trophy to Most Improved Player of the Year.

Family Of Donovon Lynch Reaches Settlement With Virginia Beach Over Police Shooting

The family of Donovon Lynch, a 25-year-old who was fatally shot by police in March 2021, settled with the City of Virginia Beach.

According to WAVY, the Lynch family will receive $3 million for their wrongful death lawsuit, which was filed in June 2021. The City of Virginia Beach and the estate of Donovon Lynch said in a joint statement: “As we have learned more over time about the facts of that fateful night and encounter, we have come to understand that a series of unfortunate occurrences led to Donovon’s death that night – which in hindsight should never have occurred as it was later determined that neither Donovon nor the officer set in motion the events that transpired.”

The statement continued, “We understand that the settlement will in no way lessen the grief and loss for the Lynch family. The City’s ongoing support for its public safety personnel and its investment in officer education and technological advancements underscores the City’s commitment to providing greater transparency.”

Wayne Lynch, Donovan’s father, also said in a separate statement, “We’ve come a long way for this fight for justice for Donovon Lynch. I’m here to tell you we have justice for Donovon Lynch.” The Lynch family was represented by the former lieutenant governor of Virginia, attorney Justin Fairfax.

According to The New York Daily News, officer Solomon D. Simmons, who is Black, was responding to a separate shooting incident at a Virginia Beach club on March 26. Lynch and his friend, Darrion Marsh were leaving the area when they crossed paths with the officer. Homicide detective findings claimed Lynch was “brandishing a handgun at the time of the shooting.” However, Wayne Lynch told The Washington Post that his son, who sometimes worked security, had a legal firearm but was not “brandishing.” Bad Girls star Deshayla E. Harris was also killed during the shooting Simmons was responding to; her murder remains unsolved.

A grand jury declined to charge Officer Simmons with Donovan’s death.

Pharrell Williams, who is a relative of Lynch, has not made any statement about the settlement. In March 2021, Williams posted a tribute to his cousin on Instagram, which read, “The loss of these lives is a tragedy beyond measure. My cousin Donovon was killed during the shootings. He was a bright light and someone who always showed up for others. It is critical my family and the other victims’ families get the transparency, honesty and justice they deserve.”

The settlement money is expected to go to the Donovon Lynch Foundation.

New Instagram ‘Notes’ Feature Could Become the Next Twitter

As users continue to plead for chronological timelines and an algorithm that allows all of their followers to view their content, Instagram has given us a Notes feature instead.

The app has rolled out this feature that allows up to 60 characters, serving as a way for users to share short messages detailing what’s on their minds. These messages, modeled after tweets, are conversational pieces encouraging interaction. To leave a note, simply go to the top of your inbox, select people you follow back or those in your Close Friends, and your note will automatically appear at the top of their inbox for the next 24 hours. Any replies to the message will come directly to your DM.

Meta, Instagram’s parent company, is already looking for ways to expand Notes, with a distinct interest in using it to rival Twitter. In fact, Meta is exploring whether or not this new function can be turned into a separate platform with a similar news feed to that of Twitter. If that is not possible, Instagram Notes may get an elaborate new tab within the Instagram app.

Instagram Notes is just one of several new features. Instagram Stories has also updated its “Add Yours” button, which enables followers to participate in the trend by sharing their own interpretations. Users can now tap “pass it on” to invite friends to participate. Another new update is “Group Profiles,” which allows multiple users to share one profile. Posts shared to a Group Profile can only be seen by group members as opposed to followers.

Only some users have access to these new features as Instagram continues to tweak the updates. All accounts should see these new displays in the upcoming days.

Civil Rights Icon John Lewis To Be Honored on U.S. Postage Stamp Next Year

Next year, a postage stamp will be issued in honor of civil rights icon and former U.S. Rep. John Lewis.

The USPS announced the decision in a statement on Tuesday, saying the stamp “celebrates the life and legacy” of the Georgian leader who risked his life protesting against segregation and other injustices in the Jim Crow South.

“Lewis spent more than 30 years in Congress steadfastly defending and building on key civil rights gains that he had helped achieve in the 1960s,” the agency said in the release. “Even in the face of hatred and violence, as well as some 45 arrests, Lewis remained resolute in his commitment to what he liked to call ‘good trouble.'”

According to CNN, the new stamp will feature a photo taken by Marco Grob that was shared in a 2013 issue of Time Magazine.

During his 60-year public service career, he participated in lunch counter protests, served on the Freedom Riders, and spoke at the March on Washington at 21. Years later, Lewis served on the Atlanta City Council before being elected to Congress, representing the Atlanta area for over 30 years.

In 2020, Lewis died at the age of 80 from advance stage pancreatic cancer.

Journalist Grant Wahl Died of an Aortic Aneurysm At World Cup, Family Says

On Wednesday, the family of journalist Grant Wahl revealed that he died from an aortic aneurysm while covering the World Cup in Qatar.

His wife, Dr. Celine, released a statement explaining it was “slowly growing, undetected.”

“Grant died from the rupture of a slowly growing, undetected ascending aortic aneurysm with hemopericardium,” she wrote on Wahl’s Substack.  “The chest pressure he experienced shortly before his death may have represented the initial symptoms.  No amount of CPR or shocks would have saved him.”

She said, “His death was unrelated to COVID.  His death was unrelated to vaccination status.  There was nothing nefarious about his death.”

On Friday, Wahl, 48, collapsed while covering Argentina versus Netherlands at the FIFA World Cup.

Initially, his brother Eric believed that Wahl “was killed.”

Now, Eric and his family no longer believe there was any foul play.

“The family will release a statement as to the cause of death soon,” Eric wrote on Twitter.  “I no longer suspect foul play.  It was not PE [pulmonary embolism].”

The American State Department has confirmed that Grant’s body was brought back to the country on Monday.

On his podcast, Futbol with Grant Wahl, Grant claimed to have bronchitis before passing away.

“My body told me, even after the U.S. went out, ‘Dude, you are not sleeping enough.’ It rebelled on me.”

Though he was feeling better, he canceled all his Thursday activities after visiting the clinic twice at the games’ media center.
