#COOKIELYON: New Posters for Taraji P. Henson’s ‘PROUD MARY’
While we wait to see Cookie Lyon in action check out these colorful new posters for Taraji P. Henson‘s upcoming action film, “PROUD MARY.” The images were released by Screen Gems in anticipation of the film’s release in theaters on January 12.

“PROUD MARY” features Henson as a hit woman working for an organized crime family in Boston, whose life is turned around when she meets a young boy Danny (Jahi Di’Allo Winston), whose path she crossed when a professional hit goes bad. The film also stars Billy Brown, Neal McDonough and Xander Berkeley along with film veterans Margaret Avery and Danny Glover.
As previously mentioned, the “PROUD MARY” posters pay homage to the look and style of the “Blaxplotation” films of the 1970s like “Coffy” and “Cleopatra Jones.”

#HIPHOPNEWS: Q-Tip Slams Grammys for Snubbing A Tribe Called Quest
Q-Tip is MAD AS HELL and putting the Grammys on blast.

Upon learning that A Tribe Called Quest’s final album We Got It from Here… Thank You 4 Your Service was omitted from the 2018 nominations, Q-Tip took to social media to address the snub.

“Y’all Grammy motherfuckers, fuck y’all,” he said. “Yesterday we was on y’all stage. Y’all fucking busted y’all ass to try to get us out there to perform. You think a ni**a wanted to go out there and perform after I lost my man? We closed y’all show and we don’t get no fucking nominations? The last Tribe album? My man is gone.”
Despite his displeasure, Tip acknowledged the other rap nominees. “Respect to everybody who’s nominated and all that, but whatever,” he said. “I’m speaking for mine. I’m sick of you fucking Grammy ni**as, man.”

Later, he denounced the Grammys as “corny” and promoted LL Cool J’s upcoming 2017 Kennedy Center induction, where James Todd Smith will become the first rapper inducted in the event’s 40-year history. “Y’all come see what the fuck we doing over there,” he said. “Fuck y’all Grammy ni**as.”

Throughout the clips, Q-Tip lamented the death of fellow Tribe member Phife Dawg, who passed away last year at the age of 45.

Vince Staples, whose Big Fish Theory was bypassed for nominations as well, also tweeted about Music’s Biggest Night. “Dont talk to me about the grammys,” he wrote. “If you wanted it nominated you should’ve listened to it. Now I have other things to attend to, enjoy your day. We are all entirely too sensitive about trophies. Y’all should’ve played football.”

While Tribe and Staples were among the snubs, this year’s Grammys were celebrated for their diversity. The major categories were dominated by minorities and no white male artists were nominated in the Album of the Year category for the first time in 19 years.

#SHOCK! Matt Lauer Fired By NBC Amid Sexual Misconduct Allegations
NBC has fired longtime “Today” host Matt Lauer following allegations of workplace misconduct, the network announced on Wednesday.
“We are devastated,” “Today” co-host Savannah Guthrie said in an emotional statement. “All we can say is we are heartbroken.”
Guthrie said that NBC News chairman Andy Lack informed employees early Wednesday about the decision after having received a complaint about Lauer’s behavior on Monday night. She read Lack’s note on-air, noting that while the network says it had never received a complaint about Lauer before, it has “reason to believe this may not have been an isolated incident.”
Both Guthrie and co-host Hoda Kotb appeared shaken by the news.

“We are grappling with a dilemma that so many people have faced these weeks,” Guthrie said. “How do you reconcile your love for someone with the recognition that they have behaved badly? And I don’t know the answer to that.”

“This is a very tough morning for both of us,” Kotb said. “I’ve known Matt for 15 years and I’ve loved him as a friend and a colleague, and just like you were saying, Savannah, it’s hard to reconcile what we are hearing with the man who we know, who walks in this building every, single day.”

President Donald Trump, who has been accused by more than a dozen women of sexual misconduct, quickly reacted:
Lauer’s departure follows a torrent of sexual harassment and assault allegations against prominent male media figures, including Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein, veteran  broadcaster Charlie Rose, and prominent political journalist Mark Halperin. The revelations have resulted in broad action, with Weinstein fired from his namesake firm and booted out of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, and Rose being fired by CBS and PBS. NBC fired Halperin, who was a frequent guest on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.”

Jennifer Hudson’s Ex-Fiance David Otunga Granted Primary Custody of Their Son David Jr.
Jennifer Hudson and David Otunga’s breakup is taking another difficult turn. The Oscar winner’s ex-fiancé has been granted primary custody over the former couple’s 8-year-old son, David Jr., TMZ reports.
According to the news site, the “Spotlight” singer, 36, and Otunga, 37, have reached a temporary agreement in their split. The contract gives the former wrestler custody over the exes’ son for the majority of the time as Hudson is currently residing in London while filming The Voice UK and frequently travels to Los Angeles for The Voice.

As previously reported, Hudson and Otunga got engaged in 2008 after a few months of dating and welcomed David Jr. in 2009. The pair parted ways in late November after nearly 10 years together. “They have been in the process of ending their relationship for a number of months,” a rep for the American Idol alum told Us Weekly on Thursday, November 16. “Jennifer requested and received a protective order against her ex-fiancé. Jennifer’s actions are solely taken in the best interest of their son.”
In legal documents obtained by Us Weekly, the Dreamgirls actress alleged that Otunga has exhibited “increasingly aggressive, threatening and harassing behavior” toward her. She also claimed that Otunga had been violent with her in the presence of their son.

Otunga’s lawyer, Tracy M. Rizzo, responded to the claims in a statement to Us: “David Otunga has been trying to negotiate the terms of an amicable parenting agreement with Ms. Hudson for several weeks now. However, when it became apparent to Ms. Hudson that Mr. Otunga would be the parent graded residential care of the child, as a result of Mr. Otunga being the child’s primary caregiver while Ms. Hudson pursues her career all over the world, Ms. Hudson decided to file a meritless Petition for Order of Protection in an effect to gain unfair advantage in the custody dispute.”

“As a result of Mr. Otunga’s career in the WWE. Ms. Hudson felt that she could give an award winning performance in court to portray herself as the victim.” Rizzo continued. “Mr. Otunga has never abused or harassed Ms. Hudson or their son, and it is unfortunate, especially in today’s climate, that she would feel the need to make these false allegations against him. Mr. Otunga looks forward to his day in court and in being awarded the residential care of the parties’ only child.”

Hudson returned to The Voice on Monday, November 20, for the show’s live taping. The “Remember Me” songstress seemed to be in good spirits as she cheered on her team and joked with the judges.

#SportsReport: Eli Manning Benched by The New York Giants!
The offensive line has been horrible, the receiving corps has been decimated and the play-calling has been second-guessed. And with that, the New York Giants have decided a quarterback change is in order after the team fell to 2-9 with a lackluster 20-10 loss to Washington on Thanksgiving night.

Eli Manning has been benched after starting every game since the middle of his rookie season 13 years ago. The Giants will go with Geno Smith, who washed out with the New York Jets after being taken in the second round of the 2013 draft out of West Virginia.
Coach Ben McAdoo says he gave the 36-year-old Manning the option of starting to keep his streak of 210 consecutive starts alive, but the two-time Super Bowl MVP didn't want any part of that. Only Brett Favre has started more consecutive games among NFL quarterbacks in league history.

Playing with a weak offensive line and a thin group of receivers, Manning has still managed to complete about 63 percent of his passes and throw just seven interceptions. He is the team record-holder in almost every single-season and career record among Giants signal-callers.

The NAACP Image Awards Nominees Announced
The nominations for the 49th NAACP Image Awards were announced this week and all I can say is Monday, January 15 is going to be lit! Sooooo many of my favorite TV shows like “Queen Sugar,” “Insecure” and “Atlanta” were nominated this year along with many of my favorite movies like “Marshall,” “Girls Trip,” and “Get Out.”

According to the press release, Netflix and OWN lead the nominations in the television categories with 23 nominations and 17 nominations, respectively. Mary J. Blige and Jay Z have five nominations, followed by Bruno Mars, Issa Rae, Kendrick Lamar and SZA with 4 nods and Charlie Wilson, Idris Elba and Ledisi with three nominations.

“The NAACP Image Awards is the ultimate platform for artists and individuals of color who advocate for social justice to share their voices with millions, and to be recognized and celebrated,” stated Derrick Johnson, President and CEO, NAACP. “At a moment where there seems to be one tragic event after another in America, the NAACP Image Awards continues to be a beacon of light to the diversity reflected in television, music, film and literature that brings everyone together.”

The two-hour LIVE TV special will air on TV One on the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday (Monday, January 15) at 9 p.m. with a one-hour Live Red Carpet Pre-Show beginning at 8 p.m. It is hosted once again by “Black-ish” star and nominee Anthony Anderson.
