Black geeks rise up at DragonCon 2017in Atlanta

This past Labor Day weekend, Atlanta played host to DragonCon 2017. This year’s convention of pop culture brought over 82K visitors as well as $70M in revenue to Atlanta businesses and hotels. One major part of DragonCon that has grown over the years is cosplay and many Black attendees let their imagination and creativity shine. This year, cosplayers added a spirit of activism with the #BlackHeroesMatter photo shoot.

Well over 200+ attendees showed up for the open and scheduled photo shoot at the Hilton Hotel in Atlanta organized by C.S. Sherman and Leigh Williams, who are both longtime attendees of DragonCon. Rolling out has the photos just go HERE!

#RHoA: Porsha Williams Will Star In A Theater Remake Of The Movie “Two Can Play At That Game”

When Porsha Williams first joined Real Housewives of Atlanta she was all about being the perfect wife. After that divorce, she has really been hustling hard with her Dish Nation gig, her hair line, and her other business ventures- with varying success.

Now Porsha is set to be a theater actress in a production that might be coming to a city near you.

Porsha shared the big news on her Instagram account, writing, “I am extremely excited to announce I’ll be performing nationwide in the theater remake of Two Can Play That Game!”

She also revealed, “My character will be “Conny” previously portrayed by @gabunion ! I’ll be joining the beautiful and talented @msvfox , who I am beyond honored to work with along with Columbus Short and an amazing cast.”

In another post with a graphic about the show dates and locations, Porsha wrote, “Come see ya girl in the HIT STAGE PLAY ‘Two can play that game’ as ‘Conny’ !” She also pointed out a charitable aspect: “Alongside @msvfox , @officialshort and an amazing cast! 50% of proceeds from ticket sales sold between now and September 15th will go to hurricane Harvey victims. Get tickets at Jecaryous.com!”

Hopefully some clips from the play make their way onto social media- or better yet on an episode of Real Housewives of Atlanta. It will be interesting to see Porsha “acting,” that’s for sure.

R&b veteran Sammie unleashes his new single “Good Life” featuring rapper Rick Ross.

The song is set to be included on Sammie‘s upcoming album “Coming of Age” which will release September 15th, 2017. It will be available on all digital outlets.

Sammie also recently released the song “Too Long”, another which will be included on the project.

#HIPHOPNEWS: Meek Mill Artist Omelly Reacts To Shooting Reports

Omelly, a rapper affiliated with Meek Mill and a member of his DreamChasers, has spoken out responding to reports that he was shot. He smiled and gave special thanks to everyone for the support via social media.

Early Tuesday morning, reports surfaced that Omelly had been shot in New Jersey and had been hospitalized. No additional details about severity of his injury have been released. This is a developing story  and will be updated as information comes in.

'American Horror Story: Cult' Is Not About Donald Trump Or Hillary Clinton

American Horror Story creator Ryan Murphy is explaining that Cult really is not about Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton, rather, about the aftermath of the election and how that affected people.

“Our feeling is that everybody lost their sh*t after the election — Republican, Democrat — and everybody’s still losing their sh*t, and nobody’s really figured out from either side where to put those feelings,” Ryan told THR. “There is no real discussion. Everybody’s still at each other’s throats, you’re either on one side or you’re on the other. The season really is not about Trump, it’s not about Clinton. It’s about somebody who has the wherewithal to put their finger up in the wind and see that that’s what’s happening and is using that to rise up and form power, and using people’s vulnerabilities about how they’re afraid and don’t know where to turn, and they feel like the world is on fire.”

“People have the wrong idea already about what it’s going to be. People in the Rust Belt who have loved the show [are tweeting], ‘I’m out. I can’t believe that you’re tackling this.’ They don’t understand that every side on our show gets it just as much. The white privilege that Sarah and Alison['s characters] deal with is satirical as well,” he continued. “The world we’re living in is ridiculous. So, I think that the show, in some ways, is reflecting the idea that nothing makes sense, and the only way to get through it is to try and have some degree of humor about it.”

Madonna Is Arguing with Fed Ex Because They Don't Believe She's Madonna

Madonna is one of the most recognizable women in the world – but apparently not to Fed Ex!

The superstar took to Twitter today to tell fans that she’s been arguing with the package delivery service all week and they won’t release her package because they don’t believe she is who she says she is.

“When you’ve been arguing with fed-ex all week that you really are Madonna and they still won’t release your package. 🙄!#bitchplease,” Madonna said, including a selfie.

After Madonna tweeted this out, a Fed Ex Twitter representative responded to try and help.

Cardi B, La La Anthony and Angela Simmons turn up Luda Day weekend

Labor Day weekend wouldn’t be complete if I didn’t end it by attending the annual LudaDay celebrity basketball game; especially because I got an invite saying Cardi B would be in the building.

There, the crowd sat around watching celebrities roll in: Tank, rapper Farari, Angela Simmons, La La Anthony, Toya Wright, Reginae Carter, Mike Will Made it, Michael Rainery, Jr (Tariq from “Power”), Larenz Tate, and many more. But when the stripper turned reality television star turned female rap artist Cardi B hit the wood of the arena, all of a sudden it was a different kind of party.

Ludacris definitely knows how to keep his fans and especially the kids entertained. He kicked off his weekend with a celebrity golf tournament, and ended the night at Atlanta’s Savoy Bowling Alley that even brought out RHOA’s Nene Leakes and the baddest chick Trina.

I noticed Ludacris is constantly adding on more national brands as sponsors. McDonald’s 365Black supported the basketball game with a big McDonald’s food truck outside of the venue with complimentary fries, sandwiches, and drinks that definitely had all the kids’ attention.

The second day of Luda Day weekend was geared towards the family. There were so many happy children riding amusement park rides at Turner Field. There were free eye exam screenings, dental cleanings, haircuts, italian ice stands, and food everywhere.

At the celebrity basketball game where both teams showed up to ball out and win, Mike Will Made It’s team played Ludacris’ team and surprisingly Ludacris’ team won this year.

Later came the golf game at Top Golf. This event got Dr J out of the hous. He brought his own golf club. Other people there included Luke James, Woody McClain, Polo Da Don, Sean Garrett, Ryan Glover and Atlanta’s Mayor Kasim Reed.

Ludacris’ mom, Roberta Jean, is the coordinator and president of the Ludacris Foundation. She made sure the big sponsors like Delta Airlines were in the building. The Top Golf Facility was shut down to the public and the Ludacris Foundation secured the entire building for this finale event.

KeKe Wyatt is DEVASTATED as her Husband is asking for a DIVORCE!

It appears that KeKe Wyatt’s relationship with her husband Michael Jamar may be coming to an end. On Tuesday (September 5th), the soulful singer posted an emotional video, revealing that her husband, whom she appeared with on Marriage Bootcamp, asked for a divorce. While in tears, KeKe sobs that she’s 8 months pregnant and has a child in the hospital. She says,

KeKe and Michael married in 2010. Prior to to this marriage, KeKe married her road manager, Rahmat Morton, when she was 18. They split in 2009.

As of 2013 KeKe and Michael were raising six children together, three fathered by her first husband, and two fathered by Michael. The sixth child is her step-child from Michael’s previous relationship. She and her husband had their eighth child in early 2015. In April 2017, KeKe revealed that she is currently pregnant with her ninth child.

Trump Ends DACA, Calls On Congress To Act

The Trump administration Tuesday formally announced it will end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program — also called DACA — putting an expiration date on the legal protections granted to roughly 800,000 people known as "DREAMers," who entered the country illegally as children.

President Trump issued a statement, saying, "I do not favor punishing children, most of whom are now adults, for the actions of their parents. But we must also recognize that we are nation of opportunity because we are a nation of laws."

He also said he looks forward to working with Republicans and Democrats in Congress to address immigration issues "in a manner that puts the hardworking citizens of our country first."

Attorney General Jeff Sessions, a longtime opponent of the policy, made the formal announcement Tuesday morning. He called DACA "unilateral executive amnesty" and said the Obama administration "deliberately sought to achieve what the legislative branch specifically refused to authorize on multiple occasions. Such an open-ended circumvention of immigration laws was an unconstitutional exercise of authority by the executive branch." He said DACA "denied jobs to hundreds of thousands of Americans by allowing those same illegal aliens to take those jobs."

Sessions added, "We cannot admit everyone who would like to come here. It's just that simple."

Homeland Security Acting Secretary Elaine Duke said the administration, facing legal challenges to the program, "chose the least disruptive option," letting the program wind down in six months and placing the onus on a sharply divided Congress to enact former President Barack Obama's executive action into law.

In a statement, Duke said no current beneficiaries will be affected before March 5 of next year. But she said, "No new initial requests or associated applications filed after today will be acted on."

Duke said the administration's decision to terminate DACA "was not taken lightly. The Department of Justice has carefully evaluated the program's constitutionality and determined it conflicts with our existing immigration laws."

Trump signaled the decision earlier on Tuesday, tweeting, "Congress, get ready to do your job - DACA."

House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wis., responded to the announcement in a statement saying, "It is my hope that the House and Senate, with the president's leadership, will be able to find consensus on a permanent legislative solution that includes ensuring that those who have done nothing wrong can still contribute as a valued part of this great country."

Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer of New York called the administration's decision "heartless." He said Democrats "will do everything we can to prevent President Trump's terribly wrong order from becoming reality."

Former Vice President Joe Biden tweeted that the move was "cruel."

Regina Hall Talks about her new film ‘When the Bough Breaks’ with Rolling Out!

Regina Hall is celebrating 16 sweet years of success in Hollywood. Her rise to fame began with the part of Brenda Meeks in Scary Movie, which is a parody of the horror, slasher and mystery film genres. Since then, this woman has been dominating in the comedy genre and her list of credits have simply grown with roles in Death at a Funeral, Think Like a Man (the franchise), a reprisal of her role as Candy in The Best Man franchise, About Last Night, and Barbershop: The Next Cut.

Now she’s starring alongside Morris Chestnut (executive producer) in Screen Gems’ When the Bough Breaks. It’s this film where the Washington, D.C.-born artist proves she has the acting chops to helm a psychological thriller. She sat down with the folks over at Rolling Out Magazine to discuss herself and the film.

Playing Laura Taylor, Hall showcases strength and grace. “I had never played a role like this,” she recalls. After having a conversation with one of the studio executives, she decided to go for it. “I read it and loved the script. They told me Morris would be my husband [John Taylor] and they hadn’t found the surrogate [Anna, played by Jaz Sinclair]. I saw Jon Cassar was directing. He is amazing. All the pieces came together.”

The film was both shot and based in New Orleans.

What did you like most about filming in New Orleans?

The same thing everyone loves about New Orleans, the bread pudding. It’s all the food. It was great. The weather was cool. The people in New Orleans are great. It was a perfect character for the movie.

Are there any similarities between Laura and Regina?

I am strong. I have certainly been through losses like Laura. You try not to let them define you even though they affect you. I think she’s someone who doesn’t give up and is determined. She’s passionate about her work. I am passionate about mine. She’s committed and I’m committed. There are themes in the essence of the character that are similar to Regina.

What are Regina’s passions?

I have to say, as I grow older I am really more conscious of what my connection is to the planet and people on the planet. I am really passionate about making those better. I am really passionate about my connection to God and where that service lies. I understand you are blessed to be a blessing. I am always trying to hear the voice of discernment about what to do. That is really kind of exciting for me. Instead of waiting to see what I am going to do next, I get to see what God is going to do next.

What keeps you motivated?

I really do love what I do. I haven’t been in the workforce in 20 years. I wouldn’t know what else to do. I have no work experience. I could probably teach an acting class. Being able to do something that you’re passionate about and enjoy, it’s such a blessing. It’s such a gift. I never take for granted that I am still able to work. As I have gotten older, I know that it sounds like a cliché, but there’s so much wisdom that comes. You are honored when you realize it’s something to be embraced.

Images of women of all ages and types need to be there for young women. There’s beauty in the process of getting older. We are oftentimes bombarded with images of only youth.

The spirit is timeless. I don’t think you can define it in a number. I have friends who have hit their 40s and 50s; I’ve watched magic in their lives. I have watched them bud into new people and still keep all the joy of their youth. I look forward to it. There’s a comfort in your skin and comfort in being OK with who you are, the good and the bad … and knowing that there are the parts that maybe need a little more attention, the more fragile parts.

EMPIRE: Romeo Miller Replaces Kid Cudi On ‘Empire’ Season 3

Romeo Miller is replacing Kid Cudi in a guest appearance spot on the upcoming season of Empire.

EW reports that Romeo is taking over the role of Gram – rival to Hakeem (Bryshere Gray) and the new love interest for Tiana (Serayah) – after Kid Cudi left the series due to “creative differences.”

“Uh ohhh #empire,” Romeo captioned the above pic, which showed him posing alongside Yazz and Mario Van Peebles.

According to EW, Kid Cudi had already shot scenes for Empire, so it is likely reshoots on that part of production will be required.

Catch Romeo, and other guest stars like, Mariah Carey, Taye Diggs and Phylicia Rashad, along with the Empire cast – when the show makes its return on Sept. 21st.

BUT, did you know that he just did his first official live performance in promotion of the album, for BBC Radio 1’s “Live Lounge”? Ahhh, maybe you’re just finding out now!

So, that’s good, because the R&B superstar kicked off a promo run for the LP with a special performance on Friday (Sept. 2), and he killed it! Recorded in Los Angeles, for “Live Lounge’s” ‘Live in L.A‘ month-long series, the R&B superstar sat down for an interview with host Clara Amfo, where he spoke about the longevity of his career, fusing genres on his last album Looking 4 Myself, performing with live bands, the sounds of his upcoming album, getting a ‘star’ on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and more.

For his performance, Usher delivered stripped-down acoustic versions of previous hits like “U Got It Bad” and “Climax,” plus his new single “Crash.” He switched up the vibe with a reggae version of “Love In This Club,” and even performed a cover of The Chainsmokers’ hit “Don’t Let Me Down.”

New Hip Hop: Stream Fabolous’ Mixtape ‘Summertime Shootout 2’

Less than a year after unleashing the original Summertime Shootout, Fabolous unloads the sequel to his mixtape series.

Released Friday (Sep. 2), Summertime Shootout 2 features a slew of guests, including Chris Brown (“Wishing”), Future (“Check On Me”), Lil Uzi Vert (“Goyard Bag”), Wale (“Faith in Me”), Tory Lanez (“4am Flex”), and Trey Songz (“Sex wit Me”).

Blending originals and remixes, the newest Loso project also boasts production from the likes of araabMUZIK, !llmind, Amadeus, Mark Henry, and Sonaro.

Fablo Freshcobar has been teasing the project for quite some time, delivering his remix to Rihanna’s “Sex with Me” and A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie’s “My Shit” to hold fans over until the actual release.

Fab also dropped the effort with a message for a fan who said they wanted “new sounds” and “new topics” from him. “Don’t look 2 deep on SS2,” he replied. “pop it in while u riding wit ya lady tho. YOU wait 4 Freddy vs. Jason.”

Diddy Accuses Obama Of Short Changing Black People: ‘I wanted more done for my people’.

Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs says that he isn’t totally sold on why blacks should vote for Hillary Clinton. In a new interview, he says that “[blacks] got a little bit shortchanged” by President Obama. He says,

My number one thing, though, to be honest, is black people. I feel like we put President Obama in the White House. When I look back, I just wanted more done for my people because that’s the name of the game. This is politics. You put somebody in office you get in return the things that you care about for your communities. I think we got a little bit shortchanged. That’s not knocking the president. …He’s done an excellent job, you know, but I think it’s time to turn up the heat because the black vote is going to decide who is the next president of the United States.

On whether or not Hillary is the best option, he says,

Hillary Clinton, you know, I hope she starts to directly talk to the black community. … It really makes me feel, you know, almost hurt that our issues are not addressed and we’re such a big part of the voting bloc.

He adds,

The heat has to be turned up so much that as a community we got to hold our vote. Don’t pacify yourself, really revolutionize the game. Make them come for our vote. It’s a whole different strategy but I think we need to hold our vote because I don’t believe any of them. You can get the vote. It doesn’t have to be held that long. But you have to come get it. …You have to bring something with it.

Janet Jackson: My Kid will not be in show business!

Janet Jackson is pregnant with her first child and has already decided that her kid will not get into show business.

“She watched what show parents did to the life of her brother Michael and is vowing that her kid will have as normal a life as possible,” sources tell Straight Shuter. “She blames show business for all the troubles in her family and wants no part of it for HER family.”

Just after postponing the European leg of her Unbreakable tour in April, she revealed via video that she and her husband were planning their family.

Although Janet has yet to officially announce that she is having a baby, her brother Jermaine spilled the beans.

“Janet would be fine if she never performs again. She will be happy being a stay-at-home mom,” adds another close source.

The Ludacris Foundation hosted it’s annual celebrity basketball game at Morehoue College’s Forbes Arena to a packed out house the featured stars from all genres of entertainment. Everyone had to come out and see which team would win the 2016 celebrity basketball trophy: Team Luda or Team Ricky Rozay.

This year the basketball game took place at historic Morehouse College’s Frobes Arena to a packed house. Ludacris had the home team while the biggest boss Rick Ross was the visiting team. The game was tons of fun with Rick Ross taking the WIN for this year’s game.

Everyone was in the house check out some pics! Many said the event was so much fun.

Michael Phelps And Ryan Lochte Hate Each Other?

Ryan Lochte, now sporting bluish-gray hair, has long played second fiddle to teammate and world-class athlete, Michael Phelps and he’s sick of it.

“Lochte has six gold medals all anyone talks about is Phelps. He’s sick of it. He doesn’t want to be seen as an underdog or in Michael’s shadow anymore. That is why he is dying his hair and trying to get some attention,” sources tell our friends over at Naughty Gossip “Likewise, Michael has grown up and is now a dad. He thinks of Ryan as a silly party boy. He is living the life he gave up long ago. He wishes him luck, but he has moved on.”

But even Ryan knows he probably hasn’t seen the last of Phelps’ yet. He recently said that despite Phelps’ insistence that Rio will be his final Olympic appearance, Lochte has his doubts: “I honestly don’t think this is going to be his last Olympics. I’m saying he’s going to come back.”
