#MAGFAB: John Boyega for Men's Health Magazine - September 2022

John Boyega has big breakout energy. With three major new projects and his own innovative production company, the actor and activist is muscling way beyond Star Wars. Boyega spoke to journalist Lola Ogunnaike for Men’s Health’s September issue cover story, sharing how he is building a better version of himself—one who was stronger physically, mentally, and spiritually and ready to embrace leading-man status and the high visibility that comes with it.

On the feel-good vibes he emanated on set for his Men’s Health cover shoot: “You have two options as an artist. Fixate on your fatigue or acknowledge that you’ve arrived and express your extreme gratitude. When I was broke and no casting director wanted to see me, if someone said, ‘We’re going to fly you out tomorrow, take care of your hotel, shoot a Men’s Health cover, then fly you back,’ I would’ve cried with joy. Yeah, I just got off a flight, but that’s what the rappers sing about. I’m living it.”

On his parents who immigrated to England in the 1980s: “My mom and dad will always be my heroes, because at the end of the day, man, they made the fundamental choice moving from Nigeria, coming over to London. If they didn’t make that choice, I don’t think any of us would be here.”

On being drawn to scripts that inspire a visceral reaction, and how he knows he’s found the right one: “I can visualize the film. The concept is clear; the intentions are clear. I’m going through each page and wishing I could read it in five seconds.”

On being vocal about feeling unsupported in his Star Wars days, which he hopes has compelled execs to become more accountable to actors of color: “I’m the one that brought this to the freaking forefront. At least the people going into it now, after my time, [they’re] cool. [Lucasfilm is] going to make sure you’re well supported and at least you [now] go through this franchise knowing that everybody is going to have [your] back. I’m glad I talked out everything at that time.”

On the importance of standing by what he believes in, speaking honestly about the trials of being Black in a world that rates him as a second-class citizen: “Any of us keeping our mouth shut at this point, it doesn’t really feel too comfortable. Because even if you’re British, [you’re] working in the States; the gun’s going to go off before your accent does.”

On his message for people bothered by his unapologetic embrace of the BLM movement, and whether he has experienced any backlash: “Our empowerment is not your demise. Of course there’s backlash. Seen and unseen. It’s just how it goes. You’ll see who’s for you and who’s really not…. [But] this is who I am. I’m going to speak about what I believe in and make sure that whatever I do is aimed at supporting the people.”

On what music currently fuel his gym workouts: “I’ve got a confession. I rarely listen to music with lyrics in the gym. I listen to movie scores…. I love Hans Zimmer. I love Harry Gregson-Williams. It’s harder to run on the treadmill when Drake is talking about being on the jet. The workouts I do [are] hard. I need me some motivation.”

On why he said yes to the historical thriller The Woman King: “The fact that I would be able to speak in my father’s accent, in my native tongue, and portray something that’s different from what I’ve done before, I was like, ‘Yeah, I’m coming. I want to be a part of that big-time.’”

The September 2022 issue of Men’s Health featuring John Boyega is on newsstands now

#RHOA: Kenya Moore Opens Up About Why She's Still Not Divorced: 'It's at a Standstill'

Kenya Moore would like her marriage to be "gone with the wind." The Real Housewives of Atlanta star on Sunday's second part of the season 14 reunion revealed that she and her estranged husband Marc Daly are still legally married, despite her filing for divorce 16 months ago.

"[I'm] still not divorced," lamented Moore, who has been vocal about her desire to move on to the next chapter of her life.

Moore and Daly — who share daughter, Brooklyn, 3½ — first wed in June 2017. Less than a year later, in September 2019, they split for the first time. Though they seemed to briefly rekindle their romance in February 2020, Daly confirmed in January 2021 that the couple had split once again.

That May, Moore filed for divorce, court documents stating that she has been living in a "bonafide state of separation" since September 2019, and that their marriage was "irretrievably broken." since September 2019.

The holdup to divorce, Moore told Andy Cohen, doesn't come down to alimony or child support. "He's not asking for anything at this point. It's just at a standstill," she said. "So until we get a trial date or settle, it's still going to go on."

Kenya Moore's Daughter Dances to Mom's 'Gone With the Wind Fabulous' Song: 'She Gets It from Her Mama'

Despite still being married, Moore said her pending divorce isn't holding her back from meeting someone new.

"I'm definitely doing some group dating and have people pursuing me, but nothing serious yet," she said of her dating life, explaining she's been going out on double dates with friends.

The former Miss USA added went on to say that she's feeling much lighter these days.

"I'm doing better in business than I've ever done in my entire life," Moore continued. "People are flooding me with, 'Hey, my friend wants to meet you,' guys reaching out. I just have that energy right now."

This isn't the first time Moore has expressed frustrations about the status of her divorce.

In May, Moore expressed her feelings around the standstill on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, noting the delay isn't on her end. "I feel like it's been going on for years too," Moore said. "I want it to be over. The hold-up is on the other side."

"Get me free! Get me free!" she added.

The Real Housewives of Atlanta reunion concludes Sunday (8 p.m. ET) on Bravo.

#HipHopNews: Kanye West Is Reportedly Exploring The Sale Of His Song Catalog

While he terminates his partnership with Gap, Kanye West is reportedly shopping his song catalog.

Sources tell Billboard that West’s camp has been testing the market for his publishing catalog over the past 10 months. Reps for the billionaire rapper have met with select prospective buyers to explore a valuation.

While no price tag has been put on the catalog, those who’ve expressed interest say that Ye is seeking as much as 35 times net publisher’s share, which exceeds the upper end of current catalog valuation pricing. However, to entice buyers, Ye’s team has offered the opportunity to sign a future publishing deal with the rapper.

Ye reportedly generates $5 million a year from his catalog, and Billboard estimates that the songs in his catalog generate over $13.25 million in publishing royalties annually.

At $5 million in annual income, a 35 times multiple suggests a $175 million valuation. A 30-times multiple has rarely, if ever, been reached with even the highest-profile deals including the Bob Dylan catalog, which is said to have sold to UMG for a 28 to 29 times multiple.

West’s catalog presents several challenges for potential buyers. His catalog hasn’t matured yet and his songs are still enjoying hit status, meaning the amount of revenue they generate annually is likely to “decay.” Secondly, the songwriter splits on some songs in West’s catalog are still in dispute. West’s unpredictable personality is also another risk, potential suitors say.

Back in May, Justin Timberlake sold his song catalog to Hipgnosis Songs Capital for upwards of $100 million, which breaks down to a 28-times multiple. The deal includes around 200 songs he wrote or co-wrote throughout his 20-plus-year career as a solo artist and frontman for *NSYNC.

Efforts to test the market for Ye’s catalog have slowed down in recent months, which could mean one of two things–they landed a bidder or more likely, the catalog failed to generate pricing expectations for West’s camp, resulting in their removal from the auction block.

Cardi B Garnishing Blogger Tasha K’s Bank Account Over $3 Million Owed For Making False Prostitution Accusations

Cardi B has started the process to seize property and assets owed by the blogger who falsely accused her of having Herpes and being an escort, RadarOnline.com has learned.

According to court documents obtained by RadarOnline.com Cardi B has filed paperwork in Georgia to start the process of collection. As RadarOnline.com previously reported, Cardi was awarded $4 million after a jury found Tasha K had defamed the rapper with various posts and YouTube videos.

In her original 2019 lawsuit, Cardi said she took issue with Tasha having accused her of working as a prostitute in the past and using hard drugs.

Tasha also accused Cardi of having Herpes. The rapper said the allegations were not only false but caused her emotional distress. Medical records that were turned over in the case proved Cardi did not have the STD.

On the stand, Cardi said the ordeal caused her problems with her husband and led her to seek therapy. “Only an evil person could do that s–t,” the rapper told the court.

Tasha filed a countersuit which accused Cardi of having her fans threaten her online. The blogger's case was dismissed with the court ruling there was not enough evidence presented.

The Georgia jury wasted no time after hearing testimony from both sides and awarded Cardi $1 million in general damages and $250k for medical expenses for a grand total of $1.25 million.

On top of that, Cardi walked away with $1.5 million in punitive damages and another $1.3 million for her attorney fees.

Tasha filed an appeal of the judgment weeks later.

Recently, Cardi filed to garnish Tasha’s accounts at Chase Bank to try and collect on her millions. The document said Cardi is owed a total of $3.3 million from Tasha.

Cardi demanded Chase and its employees hold all of Tasha’s property, money, wages and other assets, including property in safe deposit boxes or similar property.

The rapper demanded Chase answer questions about the amount of money Tasha has at the institution.

Tasha has rushed back to the court pleading for the federal judge who presided over the civil suit to step in. She argued the appeal is still pending and collections aren’t allowed until a decision is made.

Tasha pleaded with the court to stay the execution but the judge has yet to rule.

Rapper Mystikal Pleads Not Guilty to Charges of Rape, Property Damage and Drug Possession: Report

Mystikal pleaded not guilty on Monday to charges accusing the Grammy-nominated rapper of raping and choking a woman, as well as drug possession, at his Prairiesville, Louisiana, home, the Associated Press reported.

The New Orleans-based performer's attorney, Joel Pearce, proclaimed Mystikal's innocence on all charges following the arraignment in Ascension Parish court in Gonzales, Louisiana.

His charges include first-degree rape (for which he'd be imprisoned for life) as well as simple criminal damage to property, false imprisonment, domestic abuse battery by strangulation, simple robbery, possession of heroin, marijuana, methamphetamine and Xanax and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The two indictments were read aloud in court, though Pearce told the AP he hasn't gotten his hands on copies. "My client doesn't even do drugs, so he has absolutely no idea what they were talking about," the attorney told the outlet of the 51-year-old rapper, whose real name is Michael Tyler.

Pearce also claimed he doesn't know what Mystikal's accuser is accusing him of damaging, though AP reported that the charge refers to her broken Apple Watch band.

Regarding Mystikal's upcoming Oct. 17 hearing, Pearce said bond may be a point of conversation. He also detailed that prosecutors apparently plan to discuss the rapper's 2003 guilty plea to sexual battery and extortion.

Pearce did not immediately respond to PEOPLE's request for comment.

At the time, Mystikal was charged with aggravated rape and accused of coercing his hairstylist into engaging in filmed sex acts with himself and two bodyguards. The Tarantula artist was later sentenced to six years in federal prison, according to BBC News. He was released in 2010 and forced to register as a sex offender in Louisiana, Reuters reported.

Mystikal was also indicted in 2017 on separate rape and kidnapping charges and spent 18 months in jail before being released on a $3 million bond, according to the AP. The charges against him were dropped after a second grand jury declined to bring an indictment. He was also represented by Pearce at the time.

"People keep saying it's his third time to be charged [with rape]," the attorney told AP on Monday, noting that Mystikal admitted guilt to a slighter charge in Baton Rouge. "And in Caddo Parish, after a grand jury indicted him, they un-indicted him."

on July 30, at approximately 11:58 pm, deputies with the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to an area hospital in reference to a sexual assault. Detectives interviewed the victim who sustained minor injuries during the attack. Through further investigation, Michael 'Mystikal' Tyler was identified as a suspect. He was arrested and booked into the Ascension Parish Jail. He is charged with First-Degree Rape, Simple Robbery, Domestic Abuse Battery – Strangulation, False Imprisonment, Simple Criminal Damage to Property. This is an ongoing investigation. Further details may be limited at this time.

During a hearing last month, Mystikal was denied bail by a Louisiana judge following his recent arrest on charges of first-degree rape, simple robbery and domestic abuse battery, The Advocate reported.

The "Shake It Fast" performer's bail hearing occurred on Aug. 2, with State District Judge Steven Tureau ruling that the nature of Mystikal's alleged crime paired with his criminal past and the victim's fears made for a "clear and convincing" justification not to grant him bail.

During the hearing, defense attorney Roy Maughan Jr., who'd requested a $250,000 bond for his client, maintained the rapper's innocence regarding the allegations of rape, robbery and battery by strangulation, false imprisonment and simple damage to property.

"I just don't think that's in Mr. Tyler to do that," the attorney told reporters following the hearing. He claimed Mystikal has been in a relationship with the alleged victim for over two decades and noted that she hasn't previously accused him of any violence. "So, we need to contact promoters and we need to let them know that he's not going to be available and do our best to mitigate the damage from this."

While disappointed with the ruling, however, Maughan also said the rapper likely won't appeal the bond denial.

Lil Nas X Sends Pizza To 'Homophobic Protestors' Outside Concert

Lil Nas X is killing ’em with kindness. The Grammy-winning rapper has clashed with conservatives and religious groups ever since releasing his video for “Montero (Call Me by Your Name),” which depicted him giving a lap dance to the devil. On Sunday, Nas once again faced protestors when his “Long Live Montero Tour” rolled into Boston.

He reposted a video of the “homophobic protestors” across the street from the MGM Music Hall, holding up signs including one that read, “Jesus is God. Even demons know it.”

In typical Nas fashion, he decided to capitalize off the moment by sending them pizza. “Just told my team to send them pizza, this is really good promo!” he tweeted.

He posted another video of his team delivering the pizzas to the group, who turned down his offer. “We appreciate it but no thank you,” said one man.

At one point, the camera zooms in on one protestor wearing a T-shirt that says “Christ’s Forgiveness Ministries Revival,” while soundtracked by Sufjan Stevens’ “Mystery of Love.”

“Update: they didn’t want the pizza but I accidentally fell in love with one of the homophobic protestors,” Nas said.

The next day, he joked that he was still catching feelings for the man. “can’t stop thinking about the cute homophobic guy that was protesting my concert last night,” he added. “i just know we had a connection. i miss him so much man. i’m nothing without him.”

Nas is currently on his “Long Live Montero Tour,” which travels to New York, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Nashville, Miami, and Los Angeles, wrapping Oct. 23 in San Francisco.

He was recently named the president of the online video game League of Legends. As his first order of business, he will release his new song “Star Walkin'” to streaming services on Friday in honor of the 2022 League World Championship.

Conviction of Adnan Syed in 'Serial' Podcast Case is Overturned, Judge Orders Him Released

Baltimore prosecutors asked a Maryland magistrate to vacate the judgment Monday afternoon in the case of Adnan Syed, whose decades-old murder conviction garnered renewed interest after it was featured on the “Serial” podcast in 2014.

City Circuit Court Judge Melissa Phinn said prosecutors made a compelling argument that Syed’s convicted was flawed.

Trial prosecutors did not properly turn over evidence to defense lawyers that could have helped them show someone else killed Lee, Phinn said. And new evidence uncovered since the trial would have added “substantial and significant probability that the result would have been different.”

Phinn vacated murder, kidnapping, robbery and false imprisonment against Syed. The judge ordered him released without bail.

Moments before the ruling, prosecutor Becky Feldman said that “justice and fairness” calls for Syed’s convictions to be tossed.

“The state has lost confidence in the integrity of this convection and believe that it is in the interest of justice and fairness that his convictions be vacated,” Feldman said.

“It is our promise that we will do everything we can to bring justice to the Lee family. That means continuing to utilize all available resources to bring a suspect or suspects to justice and hold them accountable.”

Syed, who has a full beard, appeared in court wearing a long-sleeve white dress shirt, dark tie and traditional Muslim skull cap.

Maryland prosecutors last week asked that Syed’s conviction be vacated and a new trial be granted, stunning the victim’s family.

Lee’s brother, Young Lee, wept throughout his virtual court appearance, wondering how this turn of events unfolded.

“I’ve been living with this for like 20-plus years and every day when I think it’s over, whenever I think it’s over or it’s ended, it always comes back,” he told the court via Zoom. “And it’s not just me, it’s killing me and and it’s killing my mother.”

Steve Kelly, a lawyer for Lee’s family asked Phinn to delay Monday’s proceedings by seven days so the victim’s brother could attend and address the court.

The family wasn’t given enough time and didn’t have an attorney to make a decision about appearing in court, according to Kelly.

“To suggest that the State’s Attorney’s Office has provided adequate notice under these circumstances is outrageous,” Kelly told the court. “My client is not a lawyer and was not counseled by an attorney as to his rights and to act accordingly.”

But Phinn said the family, represented by Lee’s brother in California, could easily jump on a Zoom to address the court.

She ordered a 30-minute delay for the brother to get to computer so he could dial into the hearing.

“I was kind of blindsided,” Lee told the court. “I always thought the state was on my side, but out of nowhere I hear that there’s a motion to vacate judgment and I thought, honestly, I felt betrayed.”

Lee was 18 when she was killed in 1999 and her body found buried in Baltimore’s Leakin Park.

After Syed, now 42, was sentenced to life behind bars in 2000, his case gained national notoriety from the 2014 podcast “Serial.”

Prosecutors had relied on cellphone records that seemed to show Syed was in the vicinity of the park where Lee’s body was found. But they now say they question “unreliable cellphone tower data” used against Syed at trial, and want to look at “two alternative suspects.”

“These suspects were known persons at the time of the investigation of the case and not properly ruled out,” according to last week’s filing by prosecutors.

Syed’s legal team has insisted that the cellphone data used against him was unreliable because carrier AT&T had said it only determined where outgoing calls were coming from, not incoming calls. The cellular evidence used at trial against Syed centered on his phone receiving incoming calls, meaning his general location around the time of Lee’s disappearance could not be verified.

Syed’s defense has also long questioned a key account by the couple’s schoolmate, Jay Wilds, who testified that he was with Syed when he buried her body at the park.

Apple Has No Idea What To Do With Its Oscar Bait Movie Starring Will ‘The Slap’ Smith

March 27, 2022 should have been one of the best nights of Will Smith‘s life. He won his first Oscar for his performance in King Richard, but that’s not what anyone is going to remember about the evening. Instead, it — and possibly the rest of Smith’s career — will forever be associated with two words: The Slap.

Smith has since apologized for slapping Chris Rock, who failed to keep Jada Pinkett Smith’s name out of his motherf*cking mouth, but he was also banned from the Oscars for 10 years — and the fallout continues. Apple TV+ has no idea what to do with Emancipation, his next movie that the streaming service “envisioned as a surefire Oscar contender,” according to the New York Times. But now?

Apple finds itself left with a $120 million unreleased awards-style movie featuring a star no longer welcome at the biggest award show of them all, and a big question: Can the film, even if it succeeds artistically, overcome the baggage that now accompanies Mr. Smith? According to three people involved with the film who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss the company’s planning, there have been discussions inside Apple to release Emancipation by the end of the year, which would make it eligible for awards consideration.

But other reports claim that the Antoine Fuqua-directed film, which is based on a true story of an escaped slave, has been pushed back to 2023. “If they shelve the movie, does that tarnish Apple’s reputation? If they release it, does it tarnish their reputation?” Stephen Galloway, the dean of Chapman University’s Dodge College of Film and Media Arts, told the Times. “Hollywood likes a win-win situation. This one is lose-lose.”

You know what’s a win-win proposition? Hitch 2. The time is right.

The COO Of Beyond Meat Has Been Arrested For Reportedly Biting A Dude In The Nose

The COO of Beyond Meat may lord over a company dedicated to meat alternatives, but in real life he appears to have a taste for human flesh. As per KNWA Fox 24 out of Fayetteville, Arizona, Doug Ramsey was arrested Saturday night after he got into a skirmish that involved him biting another man’s nose.

The incident happened after a college football game at Razorback Stadium. The Razorbacks had just triumphed over the Missouri State Bears. Hooray! Alas, in a parking lot after the game, Ramsey was trying to drive his Bronco home when a Suburu inched his way into his lane, making contact with one of his tires.

Ramsey then got out of his Bronco and, as per the police report, “punched through the back windshield of the Subaru.” The driver of the Suburu got out, later telling police that Ramsey “pulled him in close and started punching his body.” He then allegedly “bit the owner’s nose, ripping the flesh on the tip of the nose.”

Ramsey also threatened to kill the man whose nose he bit. He was arrested that night on charges of terroristic threatening and third-degree battery.

Is it a little too perfect that a purveyor of meatless fake meat bit into some human flesh? Sure is. It might even be, dare we say, a little too on-the-nose. Sorry.

Bridge gets ripped away by floods as Hurricane Fiona hits Puerto Rico

On Sunday (Sept. 18) afternoon, Hurricane Fiona hit the island of Puerto Rico. A metal bridge that was built in the aftermath of 2017’s devastating Hurricane Maria has been ripped away.

The temporary bridge was installed in 2018. Videos shared on social media showed the bridge on Puerto Rico’s Highway 123 in the town of Utuado being torn out of its moorings and washed downriver by surging flood waters. “It’s impossible to wash away a bridge with extreme flash flooding! Hurricane Fiona was a strong one that dumped a lot of rain water at Puerto Rico that swept away the bridge with flowing flood waters!,” said Twitter user @AllenAcNguyen.

Hurricane Fiona hit Puerto Rico with winds that reached nearly 86 mph and intense rain causing major damage to the infrastructure. It sweeped across the island and away off its western edge towards the Dominican Republic and the open sea beyond. As reported by The NY Post, Puerto Rico is expected to receive several inches of rain through Tuesday (Sept. 20), raising concerns about flooding and mudslides. Southern Puerto Rico could see 12-18 inches of rain, with some areas receiving as much as 30 inches of rain.

Puerto Rico Governor Pedro Pierluisi said the whole island’s electrical system was “out of service due to the effects of the hurricane,” affecting nearly 1.5 million households. Luma, Puerto Rico’s power transmission and distribution company, stated, “Current weather conditions are extremely dangerous and are hindering our capacity to evaluate the complete situation.”

This disaster is just five years after Hurricane Maria. It was the worst and strongest storm Puerto Rico has experienced in nearly 90 years when it struck the island in 2017, causing extensive damage that destroyed neighborhoods and killed nearly 3,000 people. It wrecked the power grid so thoroughly that one month afterwards, about 88 percent of the island was still without electricity, which affected about 3 million people.

Queen Elizabeth's corgis, Muick and Sandy, Will now live with Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson

Second son and third child of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh (born 1960)

As people around the world mourn the death of Queen Elizabeth II, her two royal corgis, Muick and Sandy, are also paying their respects.

While tens of thousands lined the streets outside Westminister Abbey, where the queen's funeral was held Monday, the pups were spotted at Windsor Castle awaiting her casket to arrive alongside two guards and the queen's son, Prince Andrew.

Andrew, along with his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York, will reportedly care for the corgis following the queen's death.

"The corgis will return to live at Royal Lodge with The Duke and Duchess," Harper’s Bazaar reported. "It was the The Duchess who found the puppies which were gifted to Her Majesty by The Duke. The Duchess bonded with Her Majesty over dog walking and riding horses and even after her divorce, she would continue her great friendship with Her Majesty by walking the dogs in Frogmore and chatting."

Despite divorcing in 1996, Prince Andrew and Duchess Sarah, both 62, still live together at Royal Lodge in Windsor.

Since the queen's death, many have raised concerns about Muick and Sandy's custody.

Even Prince William had to set people's minds at ease. During a surprise visit with mourners over the weekend, William responded to a fan who asked about the late queen's dogs.

"I saw them the other day, that got me quite sad," he said in a video captured by Sky News. "They are going to be looked after fine. They are two very friendly corgis, so they've got a good home. They'll be looked after very well. Spoiled rotten, I'm sure."

An avid dog lover, the queen owned more than 30 corgis and dachshund-corgi mixes ("dorgis") in her lifetime.

The monarch reportedly decided to stop breeding dogs in 2015, according to Vanity Fair. However, she was gifted two corgis by Prince Andrew in spring 2021.

Woody Allen Walks Back Claims, Says He Has ‘No Intention of Retiring’

UPDATE: After Woody Allen said he intended to not make more movies and dedicate more time to writing, a representative for the director released the following statement: “Woody Allen never said he was retiring, not did he say he was writing another novel. He said he was thinking about not making films as making films that go straight or very quickly to streaming platforms is not so enjoyable for him, as he is a great lover of the cinema experience. Currently, he has no intention of retiring and is very excited to be in Paris shooting his new movie, which will be the 50th.”

While in Europe to work on his 50th film, Woody Allen told Spanish newspaper La Vanguardia that he intended to retire from making movies and to dedicate more time to writing during his twilight years. What is now set to be his final film is set in Paris and will be shot entirely in French in a couple of weeks.

Allen described his upcoming film to be similar to “Match Point,” in that it would be “exciting, dramatic and also very sinister.” Allen recently wrote his fifth collection of humor pieces, “Zero Gravity,” which will be published Sept. 27 by Alianza in Spain. In the U.S., it was published by Arcade and distributed by Simon & Schuster.

Allen has been shooting more often in Europe as his support in the U.S. has plunged given the abuse accusations against him. In 2020, he opened the San Sebastian Film Festival with “Rifkin’s Festival,” shot in and around the tony city of San Sebastian. His relationship with the Basque provincial capital’s festival goes back to 2004 when he premiered “Melinda & Melinda” and in 2008 with the premiere of “Vicky Cristina Barcelona.”

Starring Elena Anaya, Louis Garrel and Gina Gershon, “Rifkin’s Festival” takes place during the fest, the most important in the Spanish-speaking world.

Curiously, he announced at the press conference marking the start of production on the film that he “never thought of retiring.” “Rifkin’s Festival” was backed by Spanish media giant Mediapro, which also supported two of Allen’s more successful films “Vicky Cristina Barcelona,” which garnered Penelope Cruz her first Oscar, and “Midnight in Paris.”

Amazon Studios shelved his previous film “A Rainy Day in New York” after accusing Allen of “sabotaging” the future of the film by his comments on the abuse accusations of his daughter Dylan Farrow. He sued them for $68 million alleging a breach of contract. The dispute was later settled out of court.

Allen has had trouble with publishing houses as well. Hachette canceled the publication of his memoir “Apropos of Nothing” after staff protests, but it was picked up by another publisher, Arcade.

Bishop Lamor Whitehead Arrested After Altercation With Woman During Service

Controversial Brooklyn Bishop Lamor Whitehead claims he was wrongfully arrested after he forcibly grabbed a woman during a sermon, a video of which was posted by TMZ.

Prior to the incident, Whitehead appeared to encourage someone to “take pictures” or film the sermon. “You want to come preach? Come on up here,” he said in the clip. “I’m gonna make you famous.” He can then be seen grabbing the woman in an aggressive manner. Police showed up after and booked Whitehead.

The bishop told the New York Daily News that he was arrested and “publicly embarrassed” only for all the charges to be dropped two hours later. “She came in the middle aisle and just [started] cussing me out, calling me all types of names, calling me all types of things,” he said, noting that the woman apparently approached him in a similar manner to the man who robbed him at gunpoint earlier this year. “She came back storming toward my wife and my 10-month-old baby.”

He said that he grabbed her because she “went toward my wife,” and promptly kicked her out of the church. He also alleged that his ministers recognized the women and her friend, and described them as “wannabe up-and-coming bloggers” who “came to my church to disrupt my service.”

“They made a grave mistake in arresting the bishop, they would’ve never did it to a rabbi, they would’ve never did it to a priest,” Whitehead said in a stream on Instagram Live, as seen below. “But because of the color of my skin, they arrested me. Not only did they arrest me, but when they put me in the police car they injured my wrist.”

Whitehead explained that when police “did some research” on him, he was released from his cell and the charges were dropped. Meanwhile, the woman, who was identified as Tarsha Howard, has been charged with trespassing and disrupting a religious service, per NYDN.

This is far from the first time Whitehead has generated headlines. The bishop was robbed at gunpoint during his own church service earlier this year, and more recently challenged comedian D.L. Hughley to a million-dollar boxing match. “I don’t wanna hear you don’t box because your mouth is big let’s get in the ring,” he said. “I’m not gonna hurt you. I’m gonna knock you out in the name of Jesus I promise you.”

Ex-NFLer Shannon Sharpe Reveals Cancer Diagnosis on FOX NFL Sunday

*NFL Hall of Famer Shannon Sharpe has revealed he was diagnosed with prostate cancer, but is now in remission. The 54-year-old opened up about his health journey on “FOX NFL Sunday,” saying that detecting the disease early may have been what ultimately saved his life.

His decision to speak out comes after he was approached by pharmaceutical company Janssen to take part in their campaign to encourage men — particularly Black men — to take regular tests for prostate cancer, which is the most commonly diagnosed illness in men of color.

While Janssen was not aware that Sharpe had been diagnosed with prostate cancer when they asked him to partner with them, he says the opportunity ultimately allowed him to help raise awareness on a serious health matter that has already caused the death of his father and other family members.

When asked by Fox co-host Curt Menefee if he was cancer-free now, Sharpe replied, “I am cancer-free right now and I feel so good.”

Sharpe, who has two daughters and one son, will become a grandfather in 2023, PEOPLE reports.

“I’m going to be a pawpaw!” The future “pawpaw” tells PEOPLE he’s excited to give his son “a little dose of his own medicine” as a grandparent.

“When you get the kid back, the kid isn’t going to be the same as when you brought them to us because I’m probably going to let them do a little bit more than you did. I remember the way you behaved when you were with me,” he laughs. “I’m going to let him jump on the bed! I’m going to let him be a kid.”

From a health standpoint, Sharpe is partnering with Janssen Oncology’s Talk That Talk to help start the conversation about prostate cancer screening that will help to eradicate health inequity in prostate cancer.

The report goes on to note that Sharpe’s own experience opened his eyes to an alarming statistic showing the disparities between cancer diagnoses among different races.

“At the time, when you get diagnosed with something, the last thing on your mind is that Black men are two times more likely to be diagnosed with prostate cancer. At that time, I didn’t know if it was two times, five times, six times.”

Dwayne Wade’s Trans Daughter Zaya Shares New Glamour Shots

*Social media has fallen in love with the new glamour shots posted by transgender teen influencer Zaya Wade, Dwayne Wade’s 15-year-old child.

While the response to Zaya’s trans journey seems to be positive, inquiring minds want to know if Zaya is taking puberty blockers. We reported previously that Dwyane allegedly filed a motion to legally change the name and gender of Zaya, who was born a boy name Zion.

According to The Blast, Wade, 40, submitted legal documents requesting the child’s name be legally changed from Zion Malachi Airamis Wade to Zaya Malachi Airamis Wade.

As reported by SandraRose, Wade filed the paperwork because Zaya is under 18 years old. In the documents, the NBA icon said he has full authority to make the decision as Zaya’s biological mother, Siohvaughn Funches, has no say in the matter. Wade did, however, notify the Funches of the petition.

Dwyane recently opened up about his fears for Zaya at the TIME100 Summit over the summer.

“As blessed as it is for my daughter to have parents who can support her, I’m still afraid every moment she leaves the house,” he told CNN’s Poppy Harlow at the event in New York City, per TIME.com. “And not just because of gun violence, but because of the way people perceive her in this world.”

Wade also slammed lawmakers who refuse to support so-called “gender-affirming” medical care for trans kids.

“To me, it’s a joke. This is our life. We live this. When you’re out there making rules, if you’re not experiencing this,” he said. “Come and live a day with my daughter. Come and see how it is to walk through this world as her.”

Zaya came out as trans in 2020. Wade compared the teen’s coming out moment to the day he himself finally gained the courage to tell his personal chef that he doesn’t like cilantro on his hamburger.

“I went years without telling my chef that I don’t like cilantro on my burger—as an adult, it took me years to have the confidence to say that,” said Wade at the TIME magazine event in June. “My daughter, at eight years old, had the confidence to say ‘This is who I am. This is who I want to be.”

Lil Baby Fans Riot After Rapper Cancels Festival Set

Things got very rowdy at Vancouver Breakout Festival once fans learned that the main headliner wasn’t showing up.

In a last-minute decision, Lil Baby canceled his set at the Vancouver Breakout Festival after feeling exhausted from his time on tour with Chris Brown.

Lil Baby was the headliner for Sunday’s show, with fellow rappers Polo G, Coi Leray, Cordae, and Babyface Ray.

In a lengthy Instagram apology, Lil Baby apologized to fans promising to make it up to them.

“I would like to start off by saying I truly apologize Vancouver, Canada, The Breakout Festival, and to everyone who was in attendance! I have been going so hard these past few months without any breaks that it finally caught up with me,” he shared.

“And my body completely shut down. I owe you guys big time and will for sure make up for it soon.”

Videos surfacing online show fans trashing the venue. Multiple tents were flipped over, as well as some set to fire.

Fans also toppled food stands and garbage dumpsters, having no mercy.

Sony Reveals A New ‘Karate Kid’ Film Is In The Works

Sony has announced that it will be adding a new Karate Kid film to the franchise.

Karate Kid is coming back following the major success of Netflix’s Cobra Kai series, which recently launched its fifth season. This will be the franchise’s first film since the 2010 reboot with Jaden Smith.

In response to the news about the new Karate Kid, Jon Hurwitz, the co-creator of Cobra Kai, shared that he won’t be attached to the project.

“The guys and I would love to make Karate Kid and Cobra Kai movies and hope to someday. But this one isn’t from us or focused on the Cobra Kai cast. Don’t know much about it, but wish it well,” said Horowitz in a tweet.

The new movie is set to debut on June 7, 2024, but no other details regarding the cast, production team or storyline have been announced, Variety reports.

Mayor Eric Adams Considering Using Cruise Ships to House Migrants

As a result of the migrant crisis in New York City, Mayor Eric Adams is considering using cruise ships as temporary housing.

“We examined everything from the legality of using any type of cruise ship for temporary housing,” Adams said on Sunday. “We’re looking at everything to see; how do we deal with this?”

The suggestion was proposed after recent reports revealed that nine buses carrying 40-50 migrants each traveled to the city. Homeless advocates immediately pushed back, calling the suggestion alienating. However, on Monday, Adams defended the idea, saying, “We’re not going to leave any stone unturned,” adding that the city was looking for “creative ways” to address the “humanitarian crisis,” NY Times reports.

Despite the city opening 23 emergency shelters, there are still not enough beds to accommodate the influx of people. Full-time facilities are being pushed to their limits and affecting the quality of life in the neighborhood.

Adams claims that cruise ships, which the Bloomberg government briefly considered as a substitute during its immigration spike, may help reduce the stress.

In addition to the floating shelters, he criticized the federal policy of denying migrants work permits before entering the country.

“We’re saying, ‘You could come here, but you are not allowed to work.’ That is unbelievable,” Adams said.

“We need to look and see what we are facing shortages. How do we go about allowing people to take care of themselves? If not, we, the government, must take care of them. That just makes no sense.”

Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand suggested on Friday that recent immigrants could be moved to upstate areas struggling with unemployment. This might result in significant federal funding for the cities.
