#RHOA: Kandi Burruss Claims Former 'RHOA' Producer Carlos King Tried To Steal Her Life Story For Xscape Biopic At TV One
Kandi Burruss is coming out against former The Real Housewives of Atlanta producer Carlos King. Burruss claims that King tried to steal her life story for an Xscape biopic he sold to TVOne in 2017.
In an interview with Haus of Aaron, Burruss said how King allegedly got Xscape’s story sold behind her back and even tried to get Burruss’s mother to interview with him to learn more about the group for the project.
Burruss said her mother was under the impression from one of King's associates that the interview would be for a documentary about the group.
“My main issue with Carlos is he is the one who stole my group’s life story and sold it to TVOne, and for that I just can’t get past it. He had been working with us that entire season on The Real Housewives of Atlanta,” she said, adding that her husband Todd had already had issues with King that they were resolved to move past. “The season wrapped in November and in December and…I was talking to a [director] friend and I as like, ‘Hey, we should do a movie about our group’s life,’ and they were like, ‘Somebody’s already doing it.'”
At the time, she thought one of her other group members had gotten their life story to a director, but she soon found out it was King who did it.
“Come to find out he is the person who had did the deal with TV One to sell our life story and was going try to ask my mother questions about us unknowingly to try to get more information, I guess, for the show,” she said.
Burruss said she fought for King to be the executive producer of her first 'Real Housewives' spinoff 'Kandi's Wedding.' She says decision to allegedly steal Xscape's story ruined their relationship.
She said, “Our show was the first show he was executive producer of. I literally fought for him to be the executive producer of my show, to be the lead executive producer. For you to have somebody that you went out for…to do that to me, I have no respect for him.”

A Grammy-nominated performer has died, according to family members.
Jesse Powell’s sister, Tamara, posted on Instagram late Tuesday night that her brother had died.
“It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our beloved son, brother and uncle Jesse Powell,” the post read.
It goes on to say that Powell died “peacefully” in his Los Angeles home. The family asked for privacy as they mourn.
Powell was 51. He was best known for the 1996 R&B hit “You,” which peaked at number 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number 2 on the R&B charts. His younger sisters Trina and Tamara are also R&B singers.
“Jesse loved music and he especially loved his fans who supported him throughout his career. We want you all to know that you meant the world to him,” the message, signed ‘The Powell Family’ concludes.

Lil’ Kim and Cardi B may be cooking up a collaboration. Fresh off her remix to Megan Thee Stallion’s “Plan B,” the Queen Bee hit the studio with Cardi. Video footage surfaced of the two in the lab on Saturday night.
It’s unclear what they were working on, but Swizz Beatz and A$AP Ferg were part of the studio session. Lil’ Kim’s daughter, Royal Reign, also made a cameo in the Instagram Story.
The person filming pans around the room while showing the packed studio. “I got everybody,” he announces.
Back in July, Cardi said that she was eyeing a collaboration with Kim for her long-awaited sophomore album, but she had not found the right record.
“I want Lil’ Kim on my album,” she told Hot 97’s Nessa. “I do have a song that I think she’s good for it, but then I’m also debating on another song. I kinda want her on this one too.”
She considered doing a record like Kim’s 2000 song “Aunt Dot,” but wondered if it would sound dated. “I just want the song that I do with her, I want it to be a super, great comeback,” Cardi added. “I want this to be her moment.”
Kim has shown love to Cardi in the past. After “Bodak Yellow” hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2017, she congratulated her. She even teased a “Ladies Night” remake with Cardi and Remy Ma.
“Congratulations to my baby cakes @iamcardib I always knew this day would come and I am so happy and proud of U!” Kim wrote. “Keep killin it baby! U deserve every bit of it.”
Emmy Ratings Hit Record Low, Viewership Falls 25% From Last Year
The Nielsen data for the 2022 Emmys on NBC is in and its not looking good for TV’s biggest night.
The awards show was down 25% from last year in total viewers and hit a new record low in ratings.
On Monday, the Kenan Thompson-hosted 74th Emmy Awards had a 1.0 rating among adults 18-49, the lowest-ever key demo stat for the Emmys. The previous record low was set by the 2020 show, which aired on ABC, and settled for a 1.3 rating. The following year, the Emmys rebounded to a 1.9.
Last night’s show drew 5.9 million total viewers compared with last year’s outing on CBS, which netted 7.9 million. That’s a new low and in stark contrast to the 2021 show, which marked a reversal in the Emmys’ steady decline in audience size. Last year’s Emmys saw a 16% gain of viewership over 2020’s historic drop-off of 12% with 6.37 million viewers.
The 2022 Emmys aired live from 5 p.m. PT/8 p.m. ET until 8:03 p.m. PT/11:03 p.m. ET and were also available for live-streaming on Peacock.
This year’s top Emmy winners included HBO’s “Succession” for drama, Apple TV+’s “Ted Lasso” for comedy and HBO’s “The White Lotus” for anthology series. The No. 1 network for the 2022 Emmys was HBO/HBO Max with 38 wins.

Why did the NBA go easy on Robert Sarver? Inconsistencies are abound as to why leagues protect some team owners
There certainly were contentious issues with arbitrator Sue L. Robinson's decision in the Deshaun Watson case last month. But one thing Robinson got absolutely correct was how she noted that the NFL's inconsistencies played a role in how she came to her conclusion on Watson's six-game punishment (which has since been changed to 11 games after appeal).
The inconsistency of sanctions continues to baffle observers, and not just how players are dealt with.
And it's not just the NFL.
We saw it again Tuesday, after the NBA announced its findings in the investigation into Robert Sarver, governor of Phoenix Suns and Mercury teams.
In 2014, NBA commissioner Adam Silver banned then L.A. Clippers owner Donald Sterling for life after Sterling was recorded telling his girlfriend — who herself is of Black and Mexican ethnicity, natch — that she could not post photos of herself interacting with Black people at Clippers games or other events and she could not bring "them" to games with her.
This time, Silver went incredibly light on Sarver for behavior that by Silver's own precedent should be grounds for lifetime banishment.
The NBA commissioned a law firm to look into Sarver after a November 2021 story by ESPN's Baxter Holmes unveiled some of Sarver's transgressions, and in full the findings reveal a rotten workplace.
The report said Sarver was sexually and physically inappropriate with female and male employees; engaged in bullying and demeaning behavior, including making crude remarks toward women about his penis size and discussing sex acts in business meetings; was sexist toward female employees, including telling one pregnant employee that she couldn't continue her assignment once she became a mother; and repeatedly using the N-word in repeating or purporting to repeat what a Black person said, even after multiple people, white and Black, told him he should not do it.
Sarver, like your garden variety bad faith anonymous first-name-buncha-numbers Twitter account, couldn't accept that Black people could use the N-word but he could not.
And for everything the investigation turned up, Sarver got just one year's banishment and a $10 million fine.
One could make the argument that Sterling's history of racism — in 2009 he and his family were sued by the U.S. Justice Department for discriminating against Black and Hispanic prospective tenants in apartment buildings they owned — played a role in Silver's decision to ban him (Sterling ended up selling the team not long after). You might win that argument.
But specific to the NBA, Sarver's transgressions outnumber Sterling's. And yet he gets to keep his team.
A skeptic might say Silver made the move against Sterling because he was in the opening weeks of his tenure as commissioner and wanted to send a message early on about how he'd lead the league.
So what kind of message is Silver sending now?
Is he entrenched enough as commissioner that he can be lax with punishment? Is racism and sexism, and generally being a tyrant to employees, OK these days? Do different team owners face different consequences, depending on how petulant they might be?
In 2017, a well-reported story by Sports Illustrated on then-Carolina Panthers owner Jerry Richardson revealed that he'd made multiple payouts to former employees for alleged sexual harassment of female employees and allegedly using a racial slur toward at least one team scout.
While Richardson was not formally voted out of the club by his fellow team owners, once the story went public, he was pressured to sell and he did, making an incredible profit in the process.
Yet the same commissioner, Roger Goodell, still overseeing the NFL, has seemingly gone out of his way to protect Washington's Dan Snyder. The Commanders owner has had multiple media investigations (The New York Times and Washington Post) and a Congressional inquiry into his team's front offices, plus a wealth of other flat-out embarrassing headlines in recent years.
A months-long investigation turned up ... something, apparently. Likely multiple somethings. But Goodell told the firm that conducted the investigation not to produce a written report, so anyone looking for transparency, most importantly the victims of the workplace toxicity, have not gotten public confirmation of what they endured or any justice. The Commanders organization was fined $10 million, and Snyder's personal punishment was a joke as he stepped away from the day-to-day doings of the team for a nebulous length of time and put his wife in charge.
(His adherence to that was also a joke, as Commanders head coach Ron Rivera said a couple of months after Goodell's "penalty" was announced that he was still speaking with Snyder on a regular basis.)
Snyder has essentially gotten off scot-free.
And for as much as it sometimes feels repetitive to highlight how much the NFL, and now the NBA, don't really care about the health and well-being of humans, particularly women and Black people, in recent years the only franchise owner whose punishment has been close to fitting the crime is the Miami Dolphins' Stephen Ross. The NFL concluded that Ross tampered with the best player in the game and one of its higher-profile coaches while both were under contract elsewhere. And he was accused of offering his then-head coach money to tank games ... oh wait, that was just a misunderstood "joke." Riiight.
Ross' actions harmed the integrity of the game, and he was suspended for six weeks, fined $1.5 million and the team was stripped of multiple draft picks.
Snyder and Sarver did real harm to employees, some of whom are still dealing with the emotional and mental effects of their actions. Perhaps they're still recovering financially or professionally.
If you're bothered by the inconsistency, you should be.
And we should all be wondering why Silver and Goodell are not.
Antigua and Barbuda to Hold Referendum to Remove King Charles III as Head of State
The Prime Minister of the Caribbean nation says the vote will come within the next three years.
The prime minister of the Caribbean nation of Antigua and Barbuda, Gaston Browne, has promised to hold a referendum on whether to remove King Charles III as the head of state within the next three years, according to ITV News. The decision to throw off the vestiges of its connection to the British monarchy and let the people vote to become a republic, he said, was not meant to “represent any form of disrespect to the monarch. This is not an act of hostility, or any difference between Antigua and Barbuda and the monarchy.”
Despite gaining independence from the United Kingdom in 1981, the nation remains part of the Commonwealth, a 56-member organization of mostly former British territories. King Charles III was confirmed last weekend (Sept. 10) as the King of Antigua and Barbuda.
Browne said this would mark “a final step to complete the circle of independence to become a truly sovereign nation.”
Queen Elizabeth’s youngest son, Edward, and his wife Sophie visited the island in April. According to the Antigua Newsroom, Browne spoke with the royals about paying reparations to the former colony, and made it clear that the nation would consider cutting ties with the monarchy once Charles became king.
There is precedent for such a step. In November 2021, Barbados became the first country to drop the queen as its head of state in some thirty years. No other country has done so since Mauritius severed its ties with the Crown in 1992. Both nations have remained part of the Commonwealth.
The death of the Queen has led to increased debate over the role of the monarchy in the modern day. The king holds a symbolic role as head of state, but the operation of the government is conducted by the Commonwealth nations themselves.
Black Girls And LGBTQ Youth Are Experiencing High Rates Of Suicide, According To Study Researchers are ringing the alarm.
Suicide rates for Black girls and young LGBTQ people are increasing according to new research.
According to a May 2022 analysis published in the Journal of the American Academy of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry, from 2003 to 2017, Black teens from 15 to 17 and Black girls in that age group had the “largest annual percentage changes” in suicides, from 4.9% and 6.6.%, respectively. Additionally, the American Academy of Pediatrics, American Academy of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry and Children’s Hospital Association stated between 2010 and 2020, suicide was the second leading cause of death for every racial demographic.
Michael Lindsey, the dean of NYU’s Silver School of Social Work and a researcher for the study, said in a statement, “Black girls showed the largest annual percentage change in terms of suicide increase. We typically think that suicide is an older white male phenomenon.”
The numbers are also disturbing for LGBTQ youth. This year the Trevor Project, the world's largest suicide prevention and crisis intervention organization for LGBTQ young people, released a report that found 45% of the 34,000 13- to 24-year-olds in their survey had seriously considered suicide. However, those who received support from their family attempted suicide at less than half of the rate of LGBTQ youth who reported receiving low or moderate support.
The Trevor Project has been ringing the alarm for years about the suicide rates for Black LGBT youth. After 15-year-old Nigel Shelby, a Black queer teen from Huntsville, Alabama, took his own life in April 2019 after being bullied for being gay, the Trevor Project said in a statement: “We know how challenging coming out can be at any age, especially in environments that may include risk factors for increased rates of discrimination, rejection, and bullying. At The Trevor Project, we hear from LGBTQ young people who have thoughts of suicide or feel unsafe or unloved at school or home - just for being who they are. We encourage adults who interact with youth to learn more about LGBTQ competent suicide prevention and risk detection and to remind LGBTQ youth that they are never alone, that their lives have value, and are loved.”

Issa Rae says team "seduced and schemed" second season of "Rap Sh!t"
Issa Rae has done it again! The “Insecure” creator just snagged a second season of “Rap Sh!t” on HBO Max.
“Seduced and schemed another season of ‘Rap Sh!t,'” wrote Issa in a post shared on Twitter to celebrate the news on Monday (Sept. 12). The exciting announcement comes on the heels of the first season finale of the series, which debuted on Sept. 1. “We’re so happy to play in the world of ‘Rap Sh!t’ for another season with this incredibly talented team,” said the 37-year-old in an official statement. Showrunner Syreeta Singleton added, “This show and cast are one of a kind and I’m thrilled to get to do this with them. We’re going bigger and harder!”
The show follows characters Shawna (Aida Osman) and Mia (KaMillion), two former high school friends who form a rap duo after reconnecting as adults. “We are so excited to continue this journey with Shawn and Mia and the incredibly fun world of ‘Rap Sh!t'” said Sarah Aubrey, HBO Max head of content. “With the wonderfully comedic and unique perspectives of Aida Osman, KaMillion, Issa Rae, Syreeta Singleton and the team at Hoorae, season two is sure to bring even more seducing and scheming.”
As previously reported, Issa tapped the City Girls as co-executive producers of the new comedy series. The show also featured rhymes penned by rappers including Dreezy, PinappleCITI, Ncognita, and more. “We were able to have a traditional writers room, which was really funny. Brilliant writers, some of them were from Miami,” said Issa during a previous appearance on “Late Night With Seth Meyers.” “And then, just to be able to have authentic rap—like the music has to be good, they actually have to be good rappers, we got to employ some of my favorite rap artists.” Devonte Hynes served as the show’s music composer.
First US monkeypox death confirmed in Los Angeles
Yesterday that a resident died from monkeypox. That makes this person the first in the United States to die from the fast-spreading disease.
The department and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released a short statement noting that the person had a severely weakened immune system. “Persons severely immunocompromised who suspect they have monkeypox are encouraged to seek medical care and treatment early and remain under the care of a provider during their illness,” the statement said.
According to CNN, a person with monkeypox died in Harris County, Texas last month, but it has not been confirmed if the disease was a factor in that death. While nearly 22,000 cases have been reported in the United States, experts say death from the virus is extremely rare. Those who have died as a result of monkeypox have typically been “at-risk” individuals such as infants, pregnant women and those who have weakened immune systems, like HIV patients.
Last week, World Health Organization Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus gave an update on monkeypox. “While reported cases from the Americas also declined last week, it’s harder to draw firm conclusions about the epidemic in that region,” he said.
He continued, “Some countries in the Americas continue to report increasing number of cases and in some, there is likely to be underreporting due to stigma and discrimination or a lack of information for those who need it most. A downward trend can be the most dangerous time if it opens the door to complacency.”
Monkeypox is spread through skin-to-skin contact, respiratory droplets or by touching surfaces that an infected person has been exposed to. The virus shows up as painful lesions that cover the body. Sources say California currently has the most cases.

Britney Spears is putting the drama aside for her sons’ birthdays.
On Tuesday (September 13), the 40-year-old popstar took to social media to wish both of her sons – Jayden James and Sean Preston – happy birthday
“Happy birthday Preston and Jayden 🎉🎈!!! Love you both so much !!! These photos are from last year !!!” Britney wrote on Instagram.
Along with her message, Britney shared a photo of she and Preston posing together and another photo of she, Preston, and Jayden all wearing masks while posing in front of Christmas decorations.
Jayden turned 16 on September 12 while Preston will be turning 17 on September 14.

Brittney Griner’s Lawyer Says She’s ‘Stressed’ In Russian Prison While Waiting For Her Appeal Hearing, Following Nine-Year Sentence
Brittney Griner is reportedly stressing about her future as she waits to hear back some assuring news regarding the start of her appeal hearings. As previously reported, the WNBA star was sentenced to nine-and-a-half years in prison on August 4 on drug smuggling charges, after having arrived at a Moscow airport with vape capsules containing less than one gram of medicinal cannabis oil in her luggage back in February.
Griner’s lawyer Maria Blagovolina tells PEOPLE that she not only finds the ruling “absolutely unreasonable,” but their legal team has also waited close to a month since the sentencing and has yet to hear back regarding their appeal request. “Brittney is stressed and very much concerned with the future,” she said. The attorney added that appealing a court order rarely sees a judge change the Russian prison sentence that was initially given, but they’ve been determined to at least give it a try.
“We need to use every legal opportunity that we have, and appeal is one of these opportunities,” Blagovolina continued, while Griner’s second lawyer Alexander Boykov stressed that even if the request for an appeal does end up being successful, it will take several months to complete the legal process. And based on her legal team’s knowledge, this would strongly imply that the 31-year-old may not be getting out this year after all.
Griner was taken into custody shortly after her airport arrival, and though she says she tried to explain the situation to authorities in Moscow — that she had been rushing as she packed her belongings for the flight — officials apparently didn’t provide her with a translator that could even tell her about her rights in Russia.
Aside from the term she has been ordered to remain in prison, the athlete has also been hit with a fine of one million rubles, which is around $15,000. President Biden has since reacted to the sentencing, insisting that the White House would do its best efforts in cooperating with Russia in a potential trade that would see Griner return home in favor of convicted murderer Vadim Krasikov.
“Holding two wrongfully detained Americans hostage for the release of a Russian assassin in a third country’s custody is not a serious counter-offer,” Adrienne Watson, who is a spokesperson for the National Security Council, told CNN pertaining to the trade deal. It is a bad faith attempt to avoid the deal on the table that Russia should take.”
Gabrielle Union Is Open To A ‘Bring It On’ Sequel After Hearing Some Ideas From ‘Big-Name Writers’
Gabrielle Union has expressed that she’s open to the idea of starring in a sequel to her cheerleading classic “Bring It On,” which was released back in 2000. The motion picture, starring Union and Kirsten Dunst, has been rumored to be receiving the reboot treatment for years, while previous reports asserted there were talks of a sequel, though these plans never actually came to fruition.
Now, however, Union is adding her thoughts to the conversation, saying that from what she’s heard, there could very well be a chance fans will get a second installment to the flick after all. When asked about the possibility of another “Bring It On” movie, the actress shared, “I’ve heard many takes over the years, but I’m hearing some really great takes from some big-name writers that are very surprising.”
The success of “Bring It On” brought along six direct-to-video sequels, none of which actually included the original cast. Many fans of the first film often disregard the straight-to-DVD editions that followed after the first film was released, mainly because the storyline was nowhere near as good — at least that’s what fans have said.
Union already has an idea of where her character, Isis, would be two decades later, telling Entertainment Tonight that she would love to play the role from the perspective of a mother whose daughter is now part of a cheerleading team herself.

Senator Lindsey Graham Introduces Bill To Ban Abortions Nationwide After 15 Weeks
Republican Senator Lindsey Graham has proposed a strict nationwide abortion ban amid the ongoing outrage following the overturning of Roe v. Wade.
On Tuesday, Graham unveiled a bill proposal that would prohibit abortions after 15 weeks of pregnancy. His recommendation is based on the theory that fetuses feel pain at that stage. However, this belief has not been proven. The bill would only allow exceptions for victims of rape and incest and for mothers whose lives are at risk. This latest proposal from Graham is much stricter than his previously introduced bill, which allowed abortions up to 20 weeks.
This latest measure is the first GOP attempt to ban abortion nationally since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in June. According to reports, Graham believes stricter abortion laws would align with “other developed nations” such as France, Belgium, Spain, and Germany.
When presented on Tuesday, Republican Senators were divided on whether or not to enact an abortion ban at the federal level. South Dakota Senator John Thune said even if the GOP regained control of the Senate this Fall, he was unsure if Republicans would move forward with a floor vote on Graham’s proposed legislature. However, Graham still feels that it is only fair that his bill is heard and considered.
“They (Democrats) had the chance to vote on their bill. I’m asking for a chance to vote on my bill,” Graham stated at Tuesday’s press conference.
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell believes the matter should not be handled nationally but at the state level. If Republicans take back control of the Senate in November, it is unclear if they will introduce the Graham plan.
