Gabrielle Union for Women's Health - March 2019
Gabrielle Union covers the March 2019 issue of Women’s Health magazine photographed by Peggy Sirota. Here are some excerpts from the piece.

On her fertility problems, surrogacy, and an Adenomyosis diagnosis: “There’s nothing more that I wanted than to cook my own baby…the idea of it felt like surrendering to failure.”

On choosing a surrogate: “Some people care about the race, religion, or food habits of their surrogate. I was like, ‘I want a reader.’”

On her fear of the public’s reaction to her surrogate pregnancy: “People want to see the bump, hear that you got hemorrhoids—they want to know you’re like them. I was like ‘This is going to seem like the most Hollywood shit ever. Will I be embraced as a mom? It’s terrifying.”
On how becoming a mother in her 40s proved to be the right time for Gabrielle: “Any earlier and the FOMO would have greatly influenced how I parented. I’ve seen it. I’ve done it. I’ve done it well. I’ve gotten all the T-shirts. Now I’m in the right mindset and mental space, and I’m open to being the best mom I can be.”

On maintaining an active lifestyle: “I need sun. I need Vitamin D on my face. Give me a trail, a park, a walk down the street with the dogs, a breeze, rain. I’ll go hike. I’ll get a lawn chair and sit outside my trailer so I’m not trapped inside.”

On working out with husband Dwayne Wade and family: “Training together, struggling, failing, trying to be better—it’s been a cool thing that doesn’t feel like, ‘Let’s go talk about our feelings.’ It’s like, I’m a cool mom!’”
On raising her daughter as an approachable parent: “I want to let her be free. I want to instill in her morals, values. And then I want to give her space to fill in those gaps, fall on her ass, and make mistakes. Get an F because she didn’t study. Pick the wrong dude. Pick the wrong friends and figure it out. I don’t want to be super judge-y.”

On the side effects of IVF: “My face looked like the surface of the moon, small chunks of hair were falling out. At 9 a.m. I had a flat stomach. By noon, I looked like I was 5 months pregnant.”

On seeing a nutritionist to get her body back on track: “She said, ‘Cut out gluten, dairy, alcohol, and caffeine and see if the swelling alleviates and it helps with your skin and hair.’ I felt like she was trying to torture me.” But after only a few days, she noticed a big difference. “So I did it for 6 weeks. Then I was like, ‘I need a drink!’

On her motivation for early morning sweat sessions, including 15 to 20 minutes of cardio daily plus strength training and Pilates: “You know when you swing your legs off the side of the bed? That’s when you really think about life’s decisions. How much would it cost if I cancel? What does traffic look like? Should I go back to sleep? I don’t leave people hanging.”
On the thrill of having her own production company, I’ll Have Another: “Creating opportunities, especially for creatives of color, to start careers, advance, get paid—it’s the best.”

#Empire: Jussie Smollet expresses anger over attack, public’s doubt
CHICAGO (AP) _ Actor Jussie Smollett says he’s “pissed off” that some have doubted his claims about being attacked outside his Chicago apartment last month.

The actor who stars in the Fox drama “Empire” made the comments during an interview with ABC News that’s set to air Thursday on “Good Mornin America.” A preview clip from the interview was posted online Wednesday.

Smollett says he was attacked Jan. 29 by two masked men who shouted racial and homophobic slurs at him. Chicago police have made no arrests and said they have not found surveillance video that shows the attack.
The 36-year-old Smollett, who is black and openly gay, tells ABC News that he wonders how people could doubt him, adding that what he reported was the truth.

#NewMusic from PJ Morton Featuring JoJo – ‘Say So’
PJ Morton and JoJo come together to release the stunning duet “Say So”. Over a smooth piano laden backdrop, the pair allow their vocals to intertwine while asking their significant others to profess their love to them.

The release comes via PJ’s own label Morton Records just days after he took home the Best Traditional R&B Performance Grammy Award for his live version of “How Deep Is Your Love” alongside Yebba. We had the song ranked highly among our Top 100 R&B Songs of 2018.

That song came via the standout album “Gumbo (Unplugged)” which he released nearly a year ago.

#HipHopNews: YNW Melly Arrested For 1st-Degree Murder
MIRAMAR, FL – YNW Melly has been arrested for allegedly killing fellow artists YNW Sakchaser and YNW Juvy. Police in Miramar, Florida announced the 19-year-old rapper was charged with two counts of first-degree murder on Wednesday (February 13).

Police say Melly, whose real name is Jamell Demons, shot and killed his friends on October 26, 2018. Another man, 20-year-old Cortlen Henry, was also arrested and charged with murder in the case.
“Jamell Demons, a.k.a. YNW Melly & Cortlen Henry have been arrested and charged with two counts of first degree murder,” Miramar police wrote on Twitter. “The victims, Anthony Williams & Christopher Thomas Jr., were killed on 10/26/2018. The investigation, supported by forensic evidence, has concluded that Demons shot and killed Williams & Thomas Jr. and that Demons and Henry staged the crime scene to resemble a drive-by shooting.”
Miramar police spokeswoman Tania Rues said Sakchaser, whose real name was Anthony Williams, and Juvy, whose real name was Christopher Thomas, were last seen alive at 3:20 a.m. on October 26 in Fort Lauderdale.
According to the South Florida Sun Sentinel, the two suffered multiple gunshot wounds and were driven to Memorial Hospital Miramar at 4:35 a.m. The hospital is located about 20 miles outside of Fort Lauderdale.

Henry, the man charged alongside Melly, allegedly was the driver. Police claim Henry’s initial statement to authorities didn’t match up with the evidence found in their preliminary investigation.

No motive for the murder has been revealed as of Wednesday. On October 27, one day after the shooting, Melly mourned the victim’s deaths on social media.

“They Took My Brothers From Me Over Jealousy,” he wrote. “I know y’all watching over me it’s #ynw4l @ynwsakchaser1 @ynwjuvy for Life and after, they wanna see me break down and stop or in jail or a box but my niggas still need me they parents need me they family need me till we meet again my twins my slimes #thankyouallforyourprayers.”

Congrats to Tamar Braxton as she Wins Celebrity Big Brother Season 2!
In a historical moment, the winner of Celebrity Big Brother was finally crowned on Wednesday night.
Tamar Braxton became the first-ever black housemate to win the grand prize following the season 2 finale, which also saw Dina Lohan, Ricky Williams, Lolo Jones, and Kandi Burruss all competing for the crown.

In addition to making winner history, Braxton, 41, also made show history as she broke the “First to Enter” curse — a theory that the first person to enter the Big Brother house never wins.
During the episode, Williams, 41, won the first Head of Household challenge competition and subsequently nominated Lohan and Burruss to be voted out. Burruss eventually got the boot, bringing around the final competition of the season.

Again, the former NFL player won and chose Braxton to sit next to him, which sent Lohan and Jones on their way
At last, it was down to the reality star and Williams. But it was Braxton’s last emotional plea that set her apart from the former NFL player and led to the jury’s unanimous 9-0 vote for her.

“I am a huge fan of this show. I played the game to the best of my ability,” she said, before getting even more personal. “I lost my job publicly in front of everybody. I lost my husband. . . And I almost lost my life.”
For winning the show, Braxton walked away with the $250,000 prize while Williams earned the $50,000 runner-up prize.
The season also brought along some memorable highlights, including the reveal that Lohan was dating a man for five years, but had never met him in real life or even FaceTimed.

Her revelation has since caught the attention of numerous stars including her daughter Lindsay Lohan, ex-husband Michael Lohan, and Catfish host Nev Schulman.
As she made reference to in her plea, Braxton’s victory comes after a challenging three years. In 2016, she was dropped as a co-host on The Real. At the time, Braxton said she did not understand where the decision came from.

“I could probably understand more if I know I did something, but I don’t know what I did,” she said through tears during an episode of Braxton Family Values. “I just feel like the rug has been pulled out from under me.”
Over a year later, Braxton filed for divorce from ex Vince Herbert in October 2017. And most recently, the reality star opened up about her difficult past and revealed she was molested numerous times as a child.

Braxton shared the revelation during an appearance on The Wendy Williams Show in September but said she had been too afraid to talk about it publicly until now.
“I’ve been battling myself about whether or not I want to say what happened or not … I’m Tamar and I’m real, right?” she told host Wendy Williams. “A lot of things happened in my childhood that I was too afraid to talk about. Too ashamed to talk about. But the truth of the matter is I have been molested by both sides of my family.”

After filming the segment, the singer further explained her decision to share the difficult details of her past in an emotional Instagram post.
“I never EVER again want anyone to feel so little and so small or even ashamed about something they had no control over. I wanted to create a space where you can tell your OWN story without anyone commenting or making you feel ashamed EVER again!!” she wrote. “Go to and tell your story and empower yourself starting today! I wanted you to know that no matter how many scars you have… you are the PRETTIEST.”

Andy Cohen Shares First Photos Of Newborn Baby Boy's Face
Andy Cohen's baby boy is ready for his close-up! The Watch What Happens Live host unveiled the first face photo of his newborn son, Benjamin Allen Cohen, which appears on the cover of an upcoming issue of People magazine. The 50-year-old, who welcomed his first child via surrogate on February 4, posted the image on Instagram, which shows him and his adorable newborn as the cover stars of the magazine's February 25 issue.

"This is my son!! I grew up reading @People cover to cover, at a time when being gay meant there was no way to have a family," the new dad captioned the shot on Instagram Wednesday night (February 13). "Now I'm honored to be the first gay dad featured on the magazine's cover. Thank you @mrjesscagle for sharing my story."

The Bravo executive first revealed his baby news on WWHL in December 2018, and announced the gender of his child on New Year's Eve. Inside the future feature, Cohen recalls the joy of witnessing the birth of his son and how he came to find the perfect surrogate.

“I was in the delivery room. I had been hoping that he would have a full head of hair, and he really overdelivered,” he told People. “That was the first thing you see, the head of hair coming out. And I was amazed.”

On his journey to planning parenthood, Cohen revealed: “I worked with an incredible surrogate,” he said. “She was in California. Surrogacy is illegal in so many states, including New York. I don’t understand why. It’s a voluntary process, obviously. My surrogate just viewed it as, she was giving me the ultimate gift. She gave me life. So I’ll be forever indebted to her.”

Amazon says it will not build a headquarters in New York after mounting opposition
Amazon will not build a headquarters in New York following mounting opposition, the company said in a statement Thursday.
Amazon said it does not have plans to reopen the search for a replacement location. The company will continue to build its planned headquarters in Virginia and its other planned location in Nashville.

Last week, The Washington Post first reported that Amazon executives were considering backing out of its plans to build an office in the Long Island City neighborhood of New York.

"While polls show that 70 percent of New Yorkers support our plans and investment, a number of state and local politicians have made it clear that they oppose our presence and will not work with us to build the type of relationships that are required to go forward with the project we and many others envisioned in Long Island City," Amazon said in the statement. The company said it will continue to grow the teams it already has in Staten Island, Brooklyn and Manhattan.
New York Governor Andrew Cuomo had warned at a news conference last week following the report that the local and regional leaders would have to answer to voters if Amazon did not ultimately bring its 25,000 jobs to the state.

"You want to diversify your economy? You don't want to just be Wall Street and finance?" Cuomo asked at the conference last week. "We need Amazon."

Local and state leaders had voiced significant opposition after New York City and state had offered the company performance-based incentives amounting to nearly $3 billion. These leaders were not privy to the details of the deal until after Amazon had made its decision. Cuomo said the deal would still bring in $27 billion in revenue in exchange for the incentive package and called the opposition to Amazon "governmental malpractice."

Amazon executives had made attempts to quell local fears about its move into the city. In December, two executives attended a hearing in front of members of New York's City Council where lawmakers addressed questions about how the company would ensure it hired a diverse workforce from the Queens community it was moving into, among other concerns. Council members expressed anger over the closed door deal and accused Amazon's actions of proving it was a bad neighbor.

"I see this as Walmart 2.0 and we're going to continue to fight because we object to the process that has brought us to [this] point," said council member Inez Barron at the December hearing. "You're in for a battle. You're in for a fight."

State Sen. Michael Gianaris, another vocal critic of the Amazon deal who was selected last week to serve on the state board that would have had final approval on the Amazon deal, said he would not mind to see the company abandon its plans. Asked if he would consider it a victory if Amazon no longer planned to build its headquarters in NYC, Gianaris said, "Under these terms of the deal that's before us, absolutely."

Some Amazon employees had bought homes in the Long Island City area of Queens even before the company had announced its plans to open a headquarters there, The Wall Street Journal reported in November.

Here is the full statement:

After much thought and deliberation, we've decided not to move forward with our plans to build a headquarters for Amazon in Long Island City, Queens. For Amazon, the commitment to build a new headquarters requires positive, collaborative relationships with state and local elected officials who will be supportive over the long-term. While polls show that 70% of New Yorkers support our plans and investment, a number of state and local politicians have made it clear that they oppose our presence and will not work with us to build the type of relationships that are required to go forward with the project we and many others envisioned in Long Island City.

We are disappointed to have reached this conclusion—we love New York, its incomparable dynamism, people, and culture—and particularly the community of Long Island City, where we have gotten to know so many optimistic, forward-leaning community leaders, small business owners, and residents. There are currently over 5,000 Amazon employees in Brooklyn, Manhattan, and Staten Island, and we plan to continue growing these teams.

We are deeply grateful to Governor Cuomo, Mayor de Blasio, and their staffs, who so enthusiastically and graciously invited us to build in New York City and supported us during the process. Governor Cuomo and Mayor de Blasio have worked tirelessly on behalf of New Yorkers to encourage local investment and job creation, and we can't speak positively enough about all their efforts. The steadfast commitment and dedication that these leaders have demonstrated to the communities they represent inspired us from the very beginning and is one of the big reasons our decision was so difficult.

We do not intend to reopen the HQ2 search at this time. We will proceed as planned in Northern Virginia and Nashville, and we will continue to hire and grow across our 17 corporate offices and tech hubs in the U.S. and Canada.

Thank you again to Governor Cuomo, Mayor de Blasio, and the many other community leaders and residents who welcomed our plans and supported us along the way. We hope to have future chances to collaborate as we continue to build our presence in New York over time.
