The Daily Buzz For Sept 23

Tyrese & Rev. Run Had Business FUN With Oprah!
R&B singer Tyrese (and his mentor Rev. Run) did some celebrating this week.  First off, Tyrese's short film "Shame" will premiere at the 19th Annual Urbanworld Film Festival, presented by BET Networks on September 26th.
As we told you earlier, it was written by Tyrese and co-stars Jennifer Hudson. “Shame” is directed by Paul Hunter and produced by Academy Award winner Denzel Washington.

Here's the synopsis:
In the short film, “up-and-coming soul singer Lionel Jacobs (Gibson) is working the nightclub scene, trying to climb to the top of the charts while married to his background singer Bobbi Ann (Jennifer Hudson). He wants to do right by his wife and their children but, his struggle with drugs and alcohol test the strength of his fidelity and their relationship.”

In a press release about the debut, Tyrese said,
“I’m honored to serve as the ambassador of the 2015 Urbanworld Film Festival and to premiere my short film Shame in such a creative and exciting environment. I strive to create art across all mediums that supports and showcases our diverse landscape and Urbanworld is the perfect partner as they actively and significantly do the same. I’m thrilled to join the filmmakers showcasing their projects at the festival as we inspire, encourage and excite others through film.”
And that's not all he has to celebrate....
He and Rev. Run have a new show coming to OWN.  A few weeks ago, we told you that Ty and Rev. Run were bringing their 2013 New York Times bestseller “Manology,” to the OWN Network as an eight-episode weekly primetime talk show set to debut early 2016.

#TEAMEMPIRE: Sean Penn Files $10 Million Defamation Lawsuit Against 'Empire' Co-Creator Lee Daniels
MY GOODNESS, The show don’t air until tomorrow and MORE LAWSUITS? Sean Penn has filed a $10 million defamation lawsuit against Empire creator Lee Daniels. The complaint, filed Tuesday in New York Supreme Court, asserts that in Daniels' recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Penn was falsely accused of hitting women by being likened to Empire star Terrence Howard.

"[Terrence] ain't done nothing different than Marlon Brando or Sean Penn, and all of a sudden he's some f—in' demon," Daniels told THR in reference to to Howard's recent legal troubles. "That's a sign of the time, of race, of where we are right now in America."

Penn has retained former federal prosecutor Mathew Rosengart, who declined to comment but referred to the first paragraph of the complaint, which states, "As a result of Penn's status as a public figure, he has for years been the subject of scandalous, scurrilous, and baseless attacks. But Penn, like any citizen, has a right to defend himself and will no longer tolerate the reckless and malicious behavior of others, who seek to aggrandize themselves or their projects at his expense. Accordingly, and because of Daniels' defamatory statements, Penn brings this action for monetary relief, and to deter Daniels and others from their defamatory actions."

In his complaint (read it here in full), Penn nods to reports that Howard has publicly admitted to physically abusing women and says that Daniels' statements are "egregious" on several levels, including that Daniels, who co-created the Fox hit series Empire and scored an Oscar nomination for directing Precious, appears to acknowledge Howard's guilt and "also seems to condone Howard's reported misconduct."
Penn thinks it's improper that Daniels came to Howard's defense as "apparently part of a misguided campaign to profit and further bolster and brand his show Empire (on the eve of the Emmy Awards, when the statements were made)."

"Third, and most problematic," continues the lawsuit, which mentions Penn's accolades, including Oscar wins for Milk and Mystic River and charitable endeavors, "Daniels falsely equates Penn with Howard, even though, while he has certainly had several brushes with the law, Penn (unlike Howard) has never been arrested, much less convicted, for domestic violence, as his ex-wives (including Madonna) would confirm and attest."

Sources have reached out to Daniels' camp and will update with any statement as soon as it comes.Hopefully before tomorrow’s episode..LOL!

#RHoA: NeNe Leakes Calls Real Housewives Of Atlanta Cast “Thirsty” Girls!
NeNe Leakes is calling out the new cast of Real Housewives of Atlanta. The former star of the show decided to not return for the upcoming season, which will bring back two of her nemesis, Sheree Whitfield and Marlo Hampton. NeNe is now opening about the women who join the show and how she believes that they all want to be like her.

NeNe sat down for an interview with Extra where she discussed the new season and the cast. NeNe says, “Being on The Housewives of Atlanta was great for me. It opened up many doors and opportunities. So many doors and opportunities that I got so many thirsty chicks trying to be on the show, running around, and trying to do 99 things. And all of them wanna be a little NeNe. I would go back at some point, but right now for Season 8, I want to take a break. I just want to step back, chill out a minute, do a few other things. And all those thirsty girls… let’s see what you can do.”

NeNe then comments on the violence that occurs on RHOA saying, “I’ve been on the show since day one and I’ve never had a physical fight on the show. Ever. Now roll that tape. My mouth is so rough and ruthless, I say something and make you feel like you were slapped. I never had to pick up my hand and actually slap you or pull your wig off or kick you or anything. I just say something and you felt kicked.”

NeNe continues, “We argue. Obviously, we’re women so we have our differences, but to start to physically fight each other? Oh, no no no no no no no noooo. We way too old for that. There’s no need to be physically fighting.”

Thoughts on what NeNe had to say??

*Sean “Diddy” Combs sits atop Forbes’ list of the world’s highest paid stars in hip hop, edging out Jay Z and Drake on the 2015 “Hip Hop Cash Kings” tally, revealed Tuesday.
Harlem native Combs, 45, made an estimated $60 million between June 2014 and June 2015, from investments outside of music, such as his TV network Revolt and Ciroc vodka, the publication calculated.
Runner up Jay Z, also 45, earned an estimated $56 million from business ventures in music, sports and lifestyle. His 22 shows with his wife, singer Beyonce, helped boost his earnings, Forbes said.

Nicki Minaj was the only woman to crack into the top ten of the highest paid hip hop acts, coming in at No. 9 with $21 million from touring and endorsements.
Forbes calculated its list using pre-tax income figures from factors such as record sales, touring, streaming and endorsements using data from Nielsen SoundScan, the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) and interviews with managers, lawyers and in some cases, the artists themselves.
Other hip hop moguls in the top teninclude Beats co-founder Dr. Dre and rappers Eminem and Kanye West.

Rihanna’s Financial Managers Allegedly Promote Racist Culture
Rihanna might have to reconsider her money management team after allegations that the firm that handles her finances promoted a racist culture within their offices. According to a lawsuit, members of the firm allegedly made some questionable remarks regarding Rihanna’s skin tone and other offensive utterances.
TMZ reported on the lawsuit filed by a fired employee of the Flynn Family Office, which handles not only Rihanna’s money but other stars. According to the axed former worker, the higher-ups at Flynn Family Office quipped that the Barbadian superstar is only “hot” and popular because her skin tone is “not too dark.” Wow.
More from TMZ:
A fired employee claims the firm — Flynn Family Office (FFO) had a sexist culture and comments were allegedly hurled that were racist. The fired employee claims one of the company’s partners would say things like an assistant “lost points in [his] eyes because she was too dark.”
FFO — which also reps Kelly Ripa, designer Tory Burch and Katie Holmes — also allegedly tolerated discussions about sex tourism and the relative “hotness” of Asian women.
And the suit claims there was loose talk about women, including comments such as a worker having an “ass of steel.”

FFO is scoffing at the wrongful termination lawsuit, saying, “The complaint filed today is without merit, and we intend to defend vigorously against these baseless claims.”
Rihanna has yet to respond publicly in relation to the lawsuit or FFO’s alleged racist climate.

White Supremacist Raised $5K in GoFundMe Donations After Vandalizing Own Truck, Blaming Black Lives Matter Activists
A Texas man was arrested and charged with making false reports and blaming Black Lives Matter activists.
Scott Lattin of Whitney Texas allegedly spray painted the words “Black Lives Matter” on his pickup truck and blamed the online social justice group.
Lattin wrote “Police Lives Matter” on the back window and called the local news media.
When KDFW aired his story, donations quickly began pouring in. Lattin raised $5,855 in donations to a GoFundMe account set up in his name to pay for repairs on his truck.
Police became suspicious when they noted slight differences in the news report and the initial police video of the vandalism.

“We had initial video when the officers took the report and then when we saw your story on Channel 4. When we looked at those two videos, there were some differences in those and that led us to take the investigation into a different direction,” [Whitney Police Chief Chris ] Bentley told KDFW.
Bentley said after the report aired they noticed damage to the interior of the truck that wash’t there when police initially took a report.
FOX4 News video shows the glove box ripped off and the seats slashed.
Lattin was arrested and he later admitted causing the damage.
There is no word on whether Lattin plans to return the donations.

The Game Slapped With Another Lawsuit
Rapper The Game has 99 problems, and a few of them are lawsuits.
The 35-year-old father-of-3 was hit with a lawsuit after he cancelled a concert and failed to return a substantial deposit.
The rapper, whose real name is Jayceon Terrell Taylor, was booked to perform at a club in Cambridge, Mass., last April, the NY Post’s Page Six reports.
But according to Universal Attractions, the New York-based talent booking agency that booked Game for the concert, his reps cancelled the concert in May.

Universal Attractions, which filed the lawsuit, alleges that “The Game and his representatives failed to provide any reasons or excuse for canceling the event and not refunding the money,” according to court documents.
Lowell Sidney, the lawyer for Universal Attractions, said they aren’t the first promoters The Game has stiffed.
“It’s well known in the industry that this is to be expected from him, and he’s proving everyone right,” Sidney told Page Six.
“We believe that Game and his management are just out to con as much money as they can out of innocent promoters,” Sidney said.
Rappers in general have a long, colorful history of taking the money and running.
It is well known that certain A- and B- list rappers don’t return Rolex watches and jewels that they “borrow” from popular jewelers to attend awards shows.

The public usually hears about the jewels thefts when the jewelers file lawsuits to get their pricey merchandise back.
