#EMPIRENEWS: UGH! 'Real-life Cookie' FILES NEW Lawsuit against creators of Empire for  $30 million
You again? A former drug kingpin who claims to be the real-life influence for Cookie Lyon, the diva in Empire, has ramped up her bid to sue makers of the show for $300million.
Sophie Eggleston has hired a lawyer and filed new court papers alleging that producers of the Fox hit based the character, who is played by Taraji P. Henson, on her 2009 autobiography, The Hidden Hand.

She first filed a lawsuit in 2015, against the show's co-creators Lee Daniels and Danny Strong and Fox, and screenwriter Rita Miller.
But now she has brought in Detroit-based lawyer Tom Heed to file new papers which back up the allegations, Page Six reported. Eggleston, who was convicted of manslaughter for ordering a 'hit' on a man, is confident of victory.

But the defendants have refuted the claims and have asked the court to throw the lawsuit out.
Heed told Page Six: 'I certainly feel like she has a very good argument.
'What she believes is that the character of herself, especially before she went to prison, as it was expressed in the book 'The Hidden Hand,' was pretty much cribbed in total and that is now the character Cookie Lyon.'
In the show, that has a weekly audience of around 12million viewers, Henson plays a former drug boss who spends time behind bars and then orders an assassination when freed.
The lawsuit claims that 23 characteristics and plot points were taken from The Hidden Hand.
They include the fact that Eggleston has a gay son and that Lyon has a gay son.
It also includes claims that both the real and fictional ladies have taste for flashy clothes. The suit says she was 'stunned and dismayed to see the various similarities of events and characters . . . so numerous and specific, especially . . . Cookie Lyon, that independent creation was obviously impossible.'

LOL..GOOD LUCK!

#HIPHOPNEWS: Slum Village’s ‘Fantastic Vols 1 & 2’ Arriving In Box Set w/ Bonus Cuts feat. Madlib, Pete Rock + More

Detroit natives know better than most, when Slum Village‘s now classic Fantastic Vol. 1 arrived in 1997, there was no more coveted item in The Motor City. Now almost two decades later, the insta-mythos of Vol. 1 and it’s stud 200o follow-up are the only vestiges of SV’s original roster of Baatin, T3 and, of course, the late and immeasurably great, J Dilla.

And while, we here at OKP HQ (and what would we’d like to assume is the entirety of the hip-hop community) have long held those two introductory pieces as sacred and familiar sonic ground, Get On Down is readying the release of a very special new box set of the Fantastic LPs. Containing both volumes, the box set will span physical mediums and decades of Slum Village material, with three CDs holding the pair of classic volumes, plus five multicolored 45s with selections from each. A fourth CD in the set will house bonus material that features productions from Pete Rock and Madlib amongst others. According to a press release, the Fantastic box set will begin shipping in early May, but you can pre-order your copy today via the link below. Check back for updates on the release in the weeks and months ahead.

SPORTS NEWS: UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!! Villanova wins title in buzzer-beating, unbelievable finish!
HOUSTON — In 1985, Villanova needed to pull an upset for the ages to win the national title. Monday night, the Wildcats produced an ending even more incredible.
With perhaps the greatest shot in the history of the sport, Villanova captured its second improbable and near-miraculous national championship on Kris Jenkins’ buzzer-beating 3-pointer — giving the Wildcats a 77-74 win over North Carolina at NRG Stadium — the final, forever image of a thrilling back-and-forth title game.
“We’re just trying to be legendary,” Jenkins yelled as he ran off the court to hug his mother. “Nobody believed in us but us.
“I think every shot is going in and that was no different.”

Before Jenkins became immortal, the top-seeded Tar Heels had just revived hope of a sixth national championship by erasing a 10-point deficit in the final five minutes, tying the game with 4.7 seconds left on a leaning, double-clutch 3-pointer from Marcus Paige. But the shot that seemed destined to stand forever in North Carolina lore lost legendary status nearly as quickly as it was achieved.
Following a timeout, Villanova senior captain Ryan Arcidiacono sprinted up the floor as the clock sprinted to zero, creating space for Jenkins, whose scream set up thousands more in the stadium.

“If I could get a shot, I was going to shoot it, but I heard someone screaming in the back of my head,” said Arcidiacono, named the Most Outstanding Player of the Final Four. “It was Kris. I just gave it to him and he let it go with confidence.”
Waiting his turn to cut the net, Arcidiacono still couldn’t process what had happened more than 15 minutes after the final play of his incredible career.
“I can’t believe that went in,” Arcidiacono said. “Unbelievable.”

North Carolina looked finished after falling behind by 10 in the closing minutes, but Paige (21 points) closed the gap to three with a corner 3-pointer with 1:30 remaining, before Brice Johnson’s bank shot with one minute left trimmed the margin to one. After two free throws from Josh Hart with 13 seconds left, Paige made overtime feel inevitable.
“I don’t know that I’ve ever had anybody make a tougher shot than Marcus Paige made,” North Carolina coach Roy Williams said. “I was dumb enough when we were down 10, I promised ’em, if they do what I said, we’d come back and we’d have a chance to win the game at the end.

“The difference between winning and losing in college basketball is so small. The difference in your feelings is so large.”

Villanova (35-5) had been proving people wrong since the NCAA Tournament started, first shedding its underachieving label after advancing past the tourney’s first week for the first time in seven years. Then, the Wildcats defied logic by hitting shot after shot at a seemingly unsustainable rate, but their incredible offensive showcase continued through the championship game.
Led by reserve Phil Booth, who tripled his scoring average with a season-high 20 points, Villanova shot better than 58 percent from the field and hit 8-of-14 3-pointers.
North Carolina (33-7) led 39-34 at halftime and by as much as seven in the second half, but Booth’s unexpected boost, combined with Villanova’s aggressive and relentless defense, negated the Tar Heels’ strength, size and speed advantages.

But then Villanova’s double-digit lead was trimmed, and eventually erased. Five more minutes seemed promised in the season.
“It is still surreal. I don’t think I’ve really digested this yet,” Villanova coach Jay Wright said. “I’m still in my coaching mind. … I don’t think this has hit me yet. It’s amazing. It’s amazing to be out there watching ‘One Shining Moment,’ standing up on the stage, seeing those kids cut down the net. I don’t really think I have the words to explain it.”

Wright’s four-year captain did. “This is what we do,” Arcidiacono screamed as he ran around the court. “This is what we do.”
It was another incredible Villanova moment, another tale to be told for generations.

Beyoncé Dishes On Ivy Park, Perfectionism & Power In ‘ELLE’ Cover Story
After getting a sneak peek at Beyoncé‘s ELLE feature with her covers, the magazine had now released a few excerpts from her accompanying cover story, along with more photos.

In conjunction with the covers, Bey introduced her new activewear brand for women, Ivy Park. During her chat she discusses the line, the pressure of perfectionism and talks power, while explaining how she feels about the role of business woman.
Catch the highlights below..

How important was the ethos of the brand—the idea of self-love, of girls and women coming together?
It’s really the essence: to celebrate every woman and the body she’s in while always striving to be better. I called it Ivy Park because a park is our commonality. We can all go there; we’re all welcomed. It’s anywhere we create for ourselves. For me, it’s the place that my drive comes from. I think we all have that place we go to when we need to fight through something, set our goals and accomplish them.

You’ve talked in the past about the pressure of perfectionism.
It’s really about changing the conversation. It’s not about perfection. It’s about purpose. We have to care about our bodies and what we put in them. Women have to take the time to focus on our mental health—take time for self, for the spiritual, without feeling guilty or selfish. The world will see you the way you see you, and treat you the way you treat yourself.

How do you feel about the role of businesswoman, running your own company?
It’s exciting, but having the power to make every final decision and being accountable for them is definitely a burden and a blessing. To me, power is making things happen without asking for permission. It’s affecting the way people perceive themselves and the world around them. It’s making people stand up with pride.

In the spread, the “Formation” singer rocks pieces from her Ivy park line, paired with a Dior sweater and Manolo Blahnik sandals (middle pic), and Prada pumps (below).

Queen Bey’s issue is available digitally on April 5, on newsstands in select cities starting April 6, and nationwide on April 19.

#TEAMEMPIRE: Serayah Covers ‘Rolling Out’! Speaks on all things Serayah and Tiana!
Serayah poses for the cover of rolling out‘s latest issue. The 20-year-old actress and singer, who takes on the role of Tiana Brown, on FOX’s hit show – Empire – opens up about hitting the studio since being back in L.A., her music, what her life was like before Empire, what it was like finding out Beyoncé watched the show and knew who she was and more.

Read highlights from her interview, and catch a few of her gorgeuos pics, below..

On spending time in studio, since returning to L.A from Chicago (filming Empire) – and on her music:
I am finally going to be able to work on my music, so I just want to be in the studio and nothing else…. I just got signed to Sony, and I’m super excited. But I’m also focused on working really hard because I want people to take my first project seriously, so I’m looking forward to really putting in the hours.

On what life was like for her before the show and how she told her job she was leaving:

Life was really hard. It was a struggle. To be honest, I didn’t even have a place to stay when I was auditioning for “Empire.” Literally, after we shot the first couple of episodes, I took my first check, and finally was able to rent an apartment. But that was my journey. I was going to school, and I was working at H&M, and it was a grind. But I truly feel that when you’re at your lowest, that’s when God can truly come in and bless you.

I wish I had that humility, but to be honest, I just never went back [to work]. After I got called back for that second audition, I said to myself that I was just going to step out on faith, and I didn’t go back to work.
On what was on her list of things to buy, after getting her first check:

Well, maybe a couple checks later is when I got a car, but that’s about it. I’ve really been focused on saving. I haven’t been making big purchases like that, and I still shop at H&M.

On the biggest celeb to reveal they watched her on the show:

I would have to say Beyoncé. When I found out that she watched the show, and knew who I was, I almost fell to the floor. It was at the Grammys, right after Taylor [Swift] won Album of the Year. And so, I was going backstage to meet her. As I’m walking, I notice Beyoncé passing me. I didn’t want to miss the moment, so I reached out to her and said, “Thank you so much for being such a great inspiration,” … and she was nice, and replied, “Thank you so much.” But as she was walking away, she stopped, turns back around, and says, “Hey, I just realized who you were; you are doing such a great job,” and she gave me a hug. I literally had tears in my eyes. It was such an amazing moment, and it provided me confirmation that I am on the right track.
Go over to rollingout for Serayah’s full interview!

#RHOA: Kandi Burruss Tucker Claims The Ladies Try To Make Kenya Moore Wrong In Every Situation Because They Don’t Like Her!
Although Kandi Burruss Tucker was not quite as involved in season 8 of The Real Housewives of Atlanta as usual, Andy Cohen made sure to make her a big part of the reunion. Kandi has been holding her peach for years, and her break from the drama was only because she was pregnant. Now that Kandi gave birth, and is looking better than ever; it’s time for the claws to come back out.

Andy knows that Kandi is a seasoned vet, holding her own in many reunions past. Andy made sure to ask Kandi her opinion on a lot of this seasons issues, and Kandi gave us exactly what we want; some shade!

This week in her Bravo Blog Kandi assures us that she doesn’t care if Phaedra takes her kids to visit Apollo or not, she is just sick of hearing about it; this is a way different stance than she took at the reunion, and with 7 years left to go for Apollo this subject is far from over. Kandi also took the time to defend Kenya (again), and says that in Miami Kenya was 100% right and there is no way the ladies can spin it any other way!

Bravotv.com: How do you feel about the discussion with Phaedra over the kids visiting Apollo?

Kandi Burruss: I don’t feel anything. I’m tired of being asked about it.

Bravotv.com: What inspired you to stick up for Kenya during the argument about Tammy’s nephew?
KB: I was sticking up for what’s right. People try to make Kenya wrong in every situation just because they don’t like her. It’s not OK for a man to physically attack a woman, and they can’t make it OK just because it’s Kenya. I’m shocked that they were taking up for him. Looking back at that Miami episode, you can clearly see he called all of us bitches and all kinds of names. He knocked his own aunt out trying to get to Kenya. There is no way they should be supporting that type of aggression towards women.

Bravotv.com: Would Ayden make a good reunion host?
KB: Ayden would make an awesome host!

Why do you think? Do you think the ladies always try to make Kenya wrong because they don’t like her?

Jay Z sues former Tidal owners over inflated subscriber numbers
Just over a year after buying struggling streaming service Tidal, rap mogul and titan of industry Jay Z suspects the former ownership group may have misstated the number of Tidal subscribers pre-acquisition.

In a letter sent to Tidal’s former owners, Jay Z’s legal team said:
“Panther has learned that the actual number of subscribers at that point in time was significantly lower and that the amount represented in the due diligence documents were greatly overstated.”

It’s a claim that was quickly rejected by the site’s former owners.
“We disagree with the accusations in the letter and any potential claims,” a Schibsted spokesman said. “The buyer also did a due diligence of the company. It is worth noting that this was more than one year ago.”
In March 2015, Jay Z purchased Tidal from a Norwegian media group, Schibsted ASA, for $56 million. Since then, the service has been blasted for non-payment of royalties, questionable decisions, general apathy from ownership and most recently, acquisition talks (although Samsung later denied its interest in acquiring Tidal).

Tidal representatives are said to have served legal notice to the parties involved that the March 2015 sale reported 540,000 users, while an internal audit revealed only 17,000 of those were subscribing directly to Tidal.
Another 391,000 had access to the service via partnership agreements with cellphone providers and TV subscription packages.

Sports News: NCAA Final Four: Villanova, UNC easily advance to title game
Heading into Final Four weekend, there were questions on how well teams could shoot in NRG Stadium in Houston, a 70,000-plus seat venue, primarily the home of the NFL’s Houston Texans.
Villanova had an emphatic answer Saturday in the first NCAA Final Four semifinal: No problem whatsoever.

Junior guard Josh Hart scored 23 points to lead a balanced attack, and the No. 2 seed Wildcats defeated No. 2 seed Oklahoma Sooners 95-51 to advance to the NCAA men’s basketball national championship game.
On Monday, Villanova (34-5) will face No. 1 seed North Carolina, which defeated No. 10 Syracuse 83-66 in the second semifinal.
Villanova head coach Jay Wright said “it simply was one of those nights.”
“I’m happy we had one of those games where we just make every shot,” Wright said. “We had end-of-shot-clock shots we just threw up and went in.”

As a team, Villanova shot an incredible 71.4% from the field and won by the biggest margin ever in a Final Four game. It was the second-best field goal percentage of the men’s Final Four, trailing only Villanova’s 78.6 percent effort (22 of 28) in the 1985 national championship game against No. 1 Georgetown on April 1, 1985.
“We got whipped in every way,” Oklahoma head coach Lon Kruger said.

As for Syracuse VS North Carolina…… The second game turned into another blowout, as North Carolina (33-6) outpaced Syracuse (23-14). UNC led 39-28 at halftime. Syracuse — which was trying to become the first double-digit seed to reach the national championship game — cut UNC’s lead to seven points with 9:51 remaining to make it 57-50, but the Tar Heels weren’t seriously challenged after that.

“The last four weeks we’ve been much, much better defensively,” UNC head coach Roy Williams said. “We had a brain lapse there for about three minutes in the second half, but other than that I thought we were really good defensively against a team that’s hard to guard.”
Johnson and sophomore guard/forward Justin Jackson each had 16 points. Junior forward Kennedy Meeks had 15 points, while senior guard Marcus Paige had 13 points. Sophomore guard Joel Berry II had eight points and 10 assists.
UNC and Syracuse are extremely familiar with each other, as both are from the Atlantic Coast Conference. This was the third time these teams faced each other this season, with UNC now winning all three games.

Despite its reputation as a title contender in previous years, Syracuse, with the up-and-down season it has had, was one of the most improbable Final Four teams in the tournament’s history.
Losing 13 games this season, including going 1-5 in its final six games before the NCAA tournament, Syracuse was in danger of missing the tournament altogether as a bubble team. Additionally, the Orange’s head coach, Jim Boeheim, was suspended for nine games earlier this season for what the NCAA said was failing to monitor his basketball program.

Senior guard Trevor Cooney had 22 points, while freshman forward Malachi Richardson and senior forward Michael Gbinije had 17 and 12 points, respectively.
Boeheim said he told his players he was more proud of this team then any team he has ever coached.
“Tonight we had a bad start,” he told a reporter. “We missed some free throws that we can’t miss. You can’t do that against North Carolina. They’re just too big and strong and good.”

Villanova and North Carolina will battle for CHAMPIONSHIP rights on Monday night!

Instead we will focus on making the two-night finale a memorable and meaningful experience.”

Slated to air on April 6th and 7th, the American Idol Final Season finale will feature Trent Harmon, Dalton Rapattoni and La’Porsha Ranae as they compete to become the very last American Idol champion.

Nicki Minaj Settles $30 Million Dollar Lawsuit with Terrance Davidson

Nicki Minaj Settles $30 Million Dollar Lawsuit Over Allegations She Stole From Wig Designer
Nicki Minaj has reached a settlement in the $30 million dollar lawsuit filed by her ex-wig maker – who accused the rapper of stealing his designs without permission – with the pop star signing a confidential deal to dismiss all claims against her and end the legal battle once and for all according to our friends at thejasminebrand.
Nicki was slapped with a 30 million dollar lawsuit by her former wig maker Terrence Davidson. The man claimed he created the wigs that made Nicki a star and accused her of cheating him out of millions.

Terrence claimed that Nicki took his wig designs and then sold them to the public. He also said that she promised they would do a reality show together, worth millions of dollars but she never came through on her word.
Nicki fired back accusing Terrence of filing the legal battle because he was bitter he lost his most famous client and said he can’t trademark a wig style and therefore she didn’t do anything wrong by selling her wigs.
The federal court judge agreed with the singer and dismissed the entire lawsuit, stating that Terrence never had any written contracts with Nicki and therefore he has no case. The order awarded Terrence nothing from his 30 million dollar legal battle.

However, the wig maker wasn’t done fighting Nicki and filed an appeal in the case a month later attempting to overturn the judges decision. Nicki fired back shortly after claiming he was doing nothing more than attempting to shake her down for money. The rapper once again said Terrence can’t sue her due to no agreements being signed by either of them.
Nicki claimed Terrence was only hired to design, create and deliver the wigs to her nothing more than that. She says in regards to the wigs, hairstyles aren’t copyrightable and she didn’t break any laws by selling similar designs. She demanded the appeal be shut down.
Then,  the Appeal Court came back with their decision and sided with Terrence. They explained that following their review of the lawsuit and the order dismissing the case by the previous judge, they determined the lawsuit would be re-opened and Terrence can continue battling the singer in court.

They said that while Nicki and Terrence had no written contract that doesn’t mean the rapper could steal his designs and sell them on her own.

The order said the oral agreement was essentially that Terrence would design and sell her wigs for her personal use ONLY. They said that if he was selling them to her knowing she would copy the design and sell to the public, he would have charged a higher price for the wigs.
The appeal court said Nicki failed to provide any law that shows she could take Terrence’s designs and sell them to her fans. They allowed the wig designer to continue with the legal battle and stated that if he could prove the allegations in his lawsuit, then he had a case against the rapper — due to her not paying him a cut from her wig line sales.

Since the appeal both parties have been battling it out in Georgia Court.
Then on April 1st, Davison filed docs stating that he is dismissing the entire lawsuit and all claims against Nicki once and for all. The parties clearly reached a deal in the case where Davison agreed to throw out his case per the terms of the agreement.
The $30 million dollar lawsuit was dismissed the same day and the terms of the deal Nicki reached with her former wig maker are to be kept confidential. h/t TJB

Lalah Hathaway Slammed By Black Greeks Over Tribute Hat to father!

Lalah Hathaway Slammed By Black Greeks Over Tribute Hat to father

Lalah Hathaway was swiftly served a lesson in Panhellenic etiquette from Black Greeks after she was slammed for posting a selfie in an Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity hat to her Instagram account on Friday. The caption accompanying the pic said: “#daughterofAlpha #daughterofsoul” in honor of her late father, the iconic singer Donny Hathaway, who pledged the fraternity at Howard University in the ’60s. Lalah allegedly received the hat from a fan after a concert in Washington, D.C.

Despite the post being in honor of her father, Lalah was told she crossed the line by wearing the hat.
“I’m sorry Lailah, but this isn’t yours to choose to wear,” one commenter said on Instagram “Bro. Hathaway belonged to a fraternity, something we all took oaths to uphold, and regardless of anyone’s  connection to it, if you’re not a member, you don’t have a right to the privileges.”
Another said, “That’s not (respect,) that’s not what u do. Send a shout out or happy founders day. Wearing their gear is disrespectful #facts”

There were a few among the madness who defended the singer. “I respect members of greek, but not pettiness,” one commenter noted. “This clearly was not meant to be disrespectful. Some of these comments are very insensitive and unkind.”
One person even suggested Lalah seek advice and approval from the office of the organization, to get their thoughts on the photo.
Author Veronica Wells of MadameNoire addresses hatgate in her critique piece, writing: “I know the Greeks have their rules,” she says. “And I know they’re probably hoping that Lalah Hathaway doesn’t represent a slippery slope, where any and everybody can wear the letters of a group they not only love, but also worked very hard to be a part of. But as musician Kevin Whalum, another Alpha, so poignantly mentioned, it’s about humanity above colors.”

RIHANNA Wants YOU TO 'KISS IT BETTER' Watch new video!

Watch Rihanna's black-and-white video for new single 'Kiss It Better'
Rihanna just released her video for "Kiss It Better," the second single cut from her new album ANTI. It's following in the footsteps of "Work," the smash-hit Drake collaboration she released back in January, and it's being released alongside another new single, the DJ Mustard-produced "Needed Me." The video was teased with a 30-second clip the day before it was released in full. "Kiss It Better" is a histrionic, Prince-like ballad, and the video lets the music do most of the talking. It's stark and simple, shot in black and white and focused on Rihanna alone. (It's also a little explicit, so you may want to wait to watch if you're in the office.)

ANTI enjoyed a tumultuous release at the end of January, leaking just a few hours before it officially became available. After a brief window of streaming exclusivity on Tidal and a Samsung-sponsored promotion that gave over a million copies out to fans, the album reached the top of Billboard's album chart in its first full week on sale, and it's hung around there ever since. If one of these two new singles connects the same way "Work" did, it could linger near the chart's peak well into spring.
