Old rivalries run deep as Mel B calls Madonna a bitch on the radio.
Newly installed X-Factor judge Mel B got in a bit of practice on the Kyle and Jackie O by going through a few fairly famous audition tapes.
Out of Guy Sebastian, Lady Gaga, Pink, Madonna, Elton John and herself, who would she put through to the next round? Who would she reject?
Upon hearing that Madonna's "audition" was one of the performances she rejected, Mel B seemed quite pleased with herself, saying that she sounded like "a drunken karaoke singer" and added that she was a "biatch".

However to The Dirt's surprise it appears that Mel's changed her tack towards Madonna.
Back in 2009 she backed Madonna's decision to adopt Mercy James from Malawi, saying that "It's a good thing… not only is she highlighting the plight of orphans in Africa, she's also giving this little girl the chance of a better life."

The 13th Annual Design Care Benefiting The HollyRod Foundation was held in Beverly Hills and hosted by founders Rodney Peete and his wife, "The Talk" co-host Holly Robinson Peete.

Their charity, The HollyRod Foundation, provides "medical, physical, and emotional support" to individuals living with Parkinson's Disease as well as families of children with autism.

Inside, the couple posed with their son R.J. Peete.

At the event, Holly posed with her fellow co-hosts from "The Talk" Sharon Osbourne and Leah Remini.

Details…
Investigators for the Indiana Attorney General’s Office said Armstrong took a picture of a paraplegic 51-year-old male patient’s buttocks after he’d had a bowel movement and posted the photo on Facebook last May.
Armstrong was quoted in court documents as saying to her co-worker, “This is too funny. I need to take a picture of this.”

Well let’s see how she’s gonna be taking funny pics in jail!
The co-worker told investigators that she asked Armstrong not to take the picture, but later noticed the photo posted on Armstrong’s Facebook wall.
The co-worker then went to her supervisor and reported the incident.

Armstrong admitted taking the photo and was fired. Now she faces losing her CNA license after the case was referred to the State Department of Health, which oversees licensing of CNAs.
Armstrong was being held Thursday in the Hancock County Jail on voyeurism charges.
Armstrong clearly violated ALL of her patients privacy rights and should also be facing civil charges from that man’s family!

Groundswell of Interest in Kanye West's Fashion Line

The fashion community is absolutely buzzing with anticipation for Kanye West's fashion line.
With every passing day, all the myth and lore surrounding the launch of Kanye West's clothing line, which was once reported to be called Pastelle, seems much less like myth and lore than an actual fetus with just an incredibly long gestation period. After legendary Central Saint Martins professor Louis Wilson confirmed that designer Louise Goldin was in fact working with Kanye on a line that she suggested the public not "dismiss in haste," Australian Harper's Bazaar reports its fashion editor Christine Centenera is also consulting on the line. Centenera met Kanye at the fall 2011 shows and has been flying to Paris twice a month since to help him.

Australian Harper's Bazaar's Anna McLeod writes:
It’s all very hush-hush at this stage, and Centenera refuses to discuss it when she is actually in the office, stating that West is a very private person and that it’s not her place to comment. However, this writer sits next to said fashion editor in the BAZAAR office, so one plus one equals two, right? We’ll keep you posted.

Mya & Nicki Minaj Take Over Jamaica

Mya and Nicki Minaj were over in Jamaica this past weekend performing for Reggae Sumfest Dancehall Night 2011. Mya performed Friday night as well as last night. And Nicki headed straight to Jamaica after her Miami performance the other night.

Mya rocked a cute dress on stage. She performed a duet with Wayne Wonder called "If I Ever Love Again."
And she tweeted pic of them at rehearsals

And then Nicki tapped into her catty side for her leopard driven performance.

Trinidadian Nicki told the crowd it was her first time performing in Jamaica.

Then she revealed, "I was told not to curse but that is really hard I am trying." But she stayed true to her words when songs had cursing in them. Oh wells.
She rocked the stage with "Super Bass," "Your Love," "Moment 4 Life," and more. She tweeted after leaving stage:

Interesting. R.Kelly was also slated to perform but he pulled out last minute for emergency throat surgery.

IN SPORTS AND CRIME NEWS:Steve Francis Angrily Responds to Sexual Assault Accuser

*That didn’t take long. And why am I not so NOT surprised.
Now that the news of him being accused of sexually assaulting a woman last year is out, former NBA player Steve Francis is fighting back. According to TMZ, he says the allegations were concocted by a “broke ass dwarf who can’t sing.”
Via Twitter, Francis went off on the woman accusing him of the groping allegations: Shauna Simien, a singer who was signed to Francis’ record label at the time of the alleged assault.

Here is what Francis wrote:
“Well since it’s a lockout. I got a new job responding to people askin’ me about grouping [sic]a broke ass dwarf. Who can’t sing. What can a G do??”
It’s unclear if Francis dropped her from the label, but the former Houston Rockets star pretty much says that Simien’s accusations are sour grapes — writing, “If you can’t sing, you can’t sing. Keep it moving.”
Simien filed a police report over a year ago — claiming Francis assaulted her outside his office, grabbing her between the legs.so far no charges have been filed.

Kimsha and Ron Artest must be one of the friendliest divorced couples around as most folks assumed the couple were still together. But they aren't!

TMZ recently revealed that Ron and Kimsha (married in 2003) quietly divorced in 2009. The parting was very amicable and the couple share joint custody of their three kids.
Wow! Well I guess they shouldn't have been expected to blast their divorce all over town...it's their business.

But it's pretty interesting that Kimsha doesn't seem to have a problem still being identified as Ron's wife. I'm sure if you mistakenly identified Shaunie O'Neal as the wife of Shaq you'd hear from her lawyer promptly.

IN L.A DODGER’SLAND: Bryan Stow beating suspects appear in Court

The two men charged in the brutal beating of San Francisco Giants fan Bryan Stow made their first court appearance Monday, but their arraignment was postponed until Aug. 10.
Louie Sanchez, 29, and Marvin Norwood, 30, both of Rialto, were in Los Angeles Superior Court. They are accused of beating Stow, 42, nearly to death in the Dodger Stadium parking lot on March 31 after the Dodgers' home opener.
The men were arrested Thursday and charged Friday with one count each of mayhem, assault by means likely to produce great bodily injury, and battery with serious bodily injury. The men, who are neighbors, were held in lieu of $500,000 bail.
Judge Shelly Torrealba denied a request to reduce Norwood's bail to $100,000 "based on the seriousness of the charges" and indications the defendant would be a threat to public safety if released.

A bail hearing for Sanchez was scheduled for Aug. 1.
Sanchez faces a maximum of nine years in prison, while Norwood faces up to eight years behind bars, according to prosecutors.
"Unfortunately, I still don't know what their case is based on," said attorney Gibert Quinones, who represents Sanchez. "My understanding, that there was a lineup. I don't have the information regarding the lineup yet."
Quinones said Sanchez does not fit the profile of someone who would commit the crime he is charged with. Quinones said Sanchez is a family man and has been a supervisor at an auto auction for many years.
Sanchez has several convictions for DUI and a conviction for evading the police for which he was sentenced to state prison.
Witnesses described Sanchez as the most aggressive of the assailants, allegedly kicking Stow in the face several times while he was on the ground. Witnesses also said Sanchez was very drunk at the game.
Norwood's attorney said his client is a full-time union carpenter who has lived at the same home for the last three years.
During the service of search warrants at Norwood's home, five firearms, including an AR-15 assault rifle, were recovered. An investigation revealed that both Norwood and Sanchez had access to the weapons.
Stow's attackers allegedly fled in a car driven by a woman. Dorene Virginia Sanchez, 31, the sister of Louie Sanchez and the wife or girlfriend of Norwood, was also arrested as an accessory. She was released Friday on $50,000 bail.
Witnesses told police that Dorene Sanchez seemed to be aware about the beating since she drove out of the parking lot at a high speed and was seen swiveling through traffic to get away.
She is scheduled to appear in court Aug. 19, according to Los Angeles County Jail records.

Eyewitness News has learned that Louie Sanchez's 10-year-old son has been interviewed by LAPD detectives. The boy was at the game with his dad, his aunt Dorene Sanchez and Norwood. He may have witnessed the attack on Stow and is said to have contributed to the investigation.
Louie Sanchez reportedly bragged to co-workers about the beating. However, LAPD detectives who contacted the co-workers said they are denying any bragging by him.
There's no indication that the suspects had any interaction with Stow inside the stadium. Stow was sitting in the outfield (pavilion) and the suspects were in general admission area almost across the way from Stow. There's no surveillance video of an allege dispute between Stow and suspects inside the stadium.

Stow remains hospitalized at San Francisco General Hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery after suffering a seizure due to a build of fluid on his brain.
The mayhem count alleges that they "did cut and disable the tongue, and put out an eye," but district attorney spokeswoman Sandi Gibbons said that was legal language and that Stow had not had his eye or tongue taken out.
"We believe that these two individuals may have assaulted other people at the stadium," LAPD Commander Andrew Smith told members of the media. "We're hoping that anyone who has video tape or anyone who has any information about that, especially anyone in Giants attire, would contact us."

HOWEVER: Dodgers Beating Suspect's Mom: My Son Is Innocent!

The mother of Marvin Norwood -- one of two suspects in the vicious beating of Bryan Stow -- is coming out in defense of her son ... telling TMZ, "I don’t think Marvin did it. I believe he is innocent."
Marvin's mom Diana Page tells us, "He’s a good son and not capable of this type of behavior. He was a good worker. He takes care of his family."

Diana adds, "He’s a good father, he’s compassionate, and he has a healthy relationship with Dorene" -- Marvin's girlfriend -- who was also arrested in connection with the brutal attack of Stow.
According to Diana, "[Marvin] and his father used to have opposing views regarding sports teams, and they used to tease each other, but it never, ever got heated."
Diana says she hasn’t heard from Marvin since the arrest on Thursday, but believes justice will prevail ... in his favor.

Queen Bey's first gay press interview in five years, the superstar singer talks being inspired by her gay fans and remaking 'A Star Is Born
If there's any girl who runs the world, it's Beyoncé. The reigning diva - she's called Queen Bey for a reason, people - is one of the biggest and best voices behind a long run of hits dating back to the late '90s, when she was part of supreme girl-group Destiny's Child.

Years later, Beyoncé still demonstrates just how irreplaceable she is as a solo artist, having released four albums - and dedicating her latest one, "4," to that accomplishment - with some of the most memorable and gay-celebrated singles in pop music history. Not every artist can say they've had a gay boy lead a football team to glory by performing "Single Ladies," as seen on "Glee." And not every artist can say they have 16 Grammy Awards, making her one of the most honored artists in Grammy history. But that's Queen Bey, who's also assembled a gaggle of gay fans who are - you guessed it - crazy in love with her.

In this exclusive chat with Beyoncé, her first gay press interview since 2006, the singer/actress/glamour-girl spoke about how the fierceness of her gay fans inspires her, the intimidation she's feeling following in the footsteps of Judy and Barbra for her upcoming role in "A Star Is Born," and what she really meant by the "girls" who run the world.

I know, according to you, the girls run the world - but what do you think about the girls and the gays teaming up and running the world together?
Well, that's what I meant when I said girls. (Laughs)

Sure - we could all be one.
Yes, exactly! We are all one.

Do you know enough gay people so that we could successfully pull this off and take over the world?

Absolutely. I think it's happening already. I remember my friends were telling me when the song "Run the World (Girls)" first came out in the clubs the kids were going crazy, and I thought it was so wonderful and I was so excited to know that the reception was so positive.

You don't do a lot of gay press, but you have to know that you have a huge a gay following.

Yes, I do.

When did you feel a real connection with your gay fans?

I've always had a connection. Most of my audience is actually women and my gay fans, and I've seen a lot of the younger boys kind of grow up to my music. It's great when I'm able to do the meet and greets, because I'm able to really connect and have conversations. People look at some of the artists that I admire - like Diana Ross and Cher - and they identity that glamour with Sasha Fierce, and I've been really inspired by the language. I have my (gay) stylists and my makeup artist, and all of their stories and the slang words I always put it in my music. We inspire each other. Like I said, we're one.

What do gay people tell you when you meet them?
I have so many stories; I don't even know where to begin. I know that I just recently had a contest where I had everyone reenact my artwork on Twitter. Just seeing some of the guys who dressed up - like my hairstylist dressed up as Sasha Fierce from "Single Ladies" for Halloween, and I saw so many people dressed up in that glove and bodysuit - really makes me feel like I'm doing my job and some of the fashion is making its mark. To know that people can be free and confident and do what they want themselves, and I can be the person they want to look like (laughs), it's really such a blessing for me, and it's very inspiring. I'm very happy and proud of that.

Yes, you've inspired lots of drag queens out there. What tips can you give them to be a better Beyoncé?

I have many different looks, so finding what works best for your silhouette and your face, because I've had every kind of hair style and I know for me there are certain things that I love to wear and there's certain makeup and colors - bright colors on my eyes - that just don't compliment my features. So I think just figuring out which Beyoncé works best for your figure and features.

For your upcoming role in the remake of "A Star Is Born," you'll be part of a lineage of gay icons including Judy Garland and Barbra Streisand. How does it feel knowing that? Is it intimidating?

I'm slightly a bit intimated, I have to say. I feel a bit overwhelmed, and I'm still in shock. (Laughs) But the studio and Clint (Eastwood, the director) believe in me, and I feel like I've been really selective and I've waited and worked really hard and I've done different types of movies - from comedies to thrillers to drama when I played Etta James - and I really wanted to make sure I was ready. I do believe that at this point I am ready and I've been disciplined and I've surrounded myself with really good actors. I hope this is going to be as wonderful of an experience as I feel it's going to be.

I just remember growing up seeing Barbra Streisand and knowing that she represented that generation's star, and being an African-American woman and being the person that's represented is such an honor. I respect it and I cherish it and I'm going to work so hard - harder than I've ever worked - to make sure that I live up to filling the shoes of those other women.

Last year, Lady Gaga made this remark in an interview with E!: "I was very excited to be working with Beyoncé again. It just sort of works out because we both like women." What did she mean by that?

(Laughs) Well... I'm all about women working together and supporting each other and learning from each other, and I feel like sometimes women get a bad rap. It's like we're competitive and we can't respect each other especially if we're both out around the same time - they think we're going to kill each other. And it's all about women learning from each other, and I respect talent and I respect people that work hard - and good people.

I love Gaga. I mean, if she didn't perform and she wasn't a singer, just as a human being I love her to death. But on top of it, she is the most talented pop star right now, and I'm so happy for her. It's just really inspiring to see someone who just creates their own destiny and comes up with their own looks and writes their own songs and choreographs and is in control and is not contrived. If you took away every bit of costume and she just sat in front of a piano, she would still tear it down. She's just that talented, and she deserves it all. And I'm just happy to work with her. I love her.

"I Was Here," a song on "4" written by Diane Warren, is all about making a difference in people's life. What do you hope is the affect you've had on your gay fans over the years?

I hope that I've given them confidence, and I hope that I've given them inspiration. I just want everyone to become a better person, and I hope that when they see me perform they can live out their fantasies and see my work ethic and apply it to their lives and be confident and proud. If they're bootylicious, be proud; whoever they are, be proud. On this album, I really focused on making people feel good and feel love and know that there is love out there and goodness exists. I wanted to make a body of work that took risks - to be brave and be myself, and not focus on being cool.

That's what I love about this album - you did what you wanted to do. Through that, you've taught gay fans how to stay true to themselves. What have you learned from them, though?

If anyone is brave and true to themselves, it's my gay fans. The amount of confidence and fearlessness it takes to do what maybe is not what your parents expect you to do or what society may think is different - to be brave and be different and be to yourself - is just so beautiful. It's the most beautiful thing you can be, and it's what we all want to be at the end of the day. And not worrying about satisfying or becoming what other people think you're supposed to be, that's like the ultimate dream - to just be that brave.

The photos were taken on Wednesday -- while Tiger was aboard his ultra-private yacht named Solitude. The boat was reportedly custom built for Elin ... and cost somewhere in the neighborhood of $2-3 million.

It appears Tiger got to keep the boat.

In Bizarre interviews: Mariah Carey Dishes about Pregnancy in HSN Appearance

*There’s a new YouTube clip from Mariah Carey’s scattered Sunday night appearance on HSN, where she promoted her various lines (jewelry, handbag, clothing and perfume) and dished about her “47-week” pregnancy with twins Moroccan and Monroe.
Carey, 41, and hubby Nick Cannon, 30, welcomed their babies on April 4, their third wedding anniversary. When one caller asked the new mom if she remembered speaking with her in February, Carey admitted that was a “bleak” time.
“I was so uncomfortable,” she said. “I’m kind of proud of myself. I really am — sorry, pregnant with twins is different than anything! [People] were always saying to me, ‘Oh, but it’s all worth it!’ Yeah, but it’s easy to say when you’re not the one whose feet are this big! It turned into like a really difficult time.”

“My body went through so much,” she added. “Holding those twins in — you have to keep them in as long as possible. It’s a sacrifice you make for them. Literally I was like, 47-weeks pregnant. And anybody pregnant right now, there’s push gifts here. Tell your baby-father.”

Carey instructed the camera operators to avoid close-ups and take the focus away from her. At one point, she explained: “There’s always drama. It follows me.”

Chilean Mine Disaster Gets Picked Up for Movie

We all remember the horrible ordeal of 33 minders in Chile who narrowly escaped disaster when their mine collapsed last fall.
And according to a report, the heroic event will be translated into a major motion picture, produced by “Black Swan” great Mike Medavoy.
“The Motorcycle Diaries” writer Jose Rivera will handle the script, though nothing has been nailed down as far as studio backing.

Medavoy told press, “Like millions of people around the world, I was completely engrossed watching the rescue at Copiapó. At its heart, this is a story about the triumph of the human spirit and a testament to the courage and perseverance of the Chilean people. I can’t think of a better story than this one to bring to the screen.”
Miner Juan Andres Illanes added, “One year after the collapse of the mine, we consider this to be a great step towards the realization of a film based on our experience in the mine. This is the only official and authorized film about what we lived in the San José mine. Much of our story has never been told.”

McCance's status updates were brought to the attention of HRC Backstory by R. Anthony Turner, a 1998 graduate of Midland High School.


Writes McCance in response to commenters on his page:
“No because being a fag doesnt give you the right to ruin the rest of our lives. If you get easily offended by being called a fag then dont tell anyone you are a fag. Keep that shit to yourself. I dont care how people decide to live their lives. They dont bother me if they keep it to thereselves. It pisses me off though that we make a special purple fag day for them. I like that fags cant procreate. I also enjoy the fact that they often give each other aids and die. If you arent against it, you might as well be for it.” He further writes, “I would disown my kids if they were gay. They will not be welcome at my home or in my vicinity. I will absolutely run them off. Of course my kids will know better. My kids will have solid christian beliefs. See it infects everyone.”
The Advocate made attempts to contact school officials: "The superintendent of the Midland school district was unavailable and a phone call to the principal of the Midland High School was not returned. There was no response to e-mails to the superintendent and to the secretary of the Midland school board."
A Facebook page has been set up calling for McCance's removal.

Another Young Gay Commits Suicide R.I.P Joseph Jefferson

NYC Gay Youth Activist Joseph Jefferson Commits Suicide (Hat Tip Rod 2.0)

There is very unfortunate news today as yet another young gay man has taken his own life. Twenty-six-year-old Joseph Jefferson of Brooklyn, New York reportedly committed suicide on Saturday by hanging, friends and associates of the former gay youth activist and HIV peer educator

Joseph Jefferson's Facebook page is now locked but over the weekend his last status message read: "I could not bear the burden of living as a gay man of color in a world grown cold and hateful towards those of us who live and love differently than the so-called 'social mainstream'. "

By most accounts, Jefferson was a true LGBT youth pioneer. The 2002 graduate of New York City's Harvey Milk High School later worked on HIV prevention and outreach for Gay Men of African Descent (GMAD) and the now-shuttered People of Color in Crisis (POCC), New York City's leading HIV/AIDS groups for Black gay men. More recently, Joseph Jefferson was an assistant to Laurence Pinckney and James Saunders, New York City's popular Black LGBT event promoters, reports Nathan James. Jefferson was also active in New York City's colorful ballroom community.

"Joseph was truly a sweetheart," one friend who knew him well "Extremely bright and impassioned about social justice causes... It's such a loss." The friend, who requests anonymity, adds that Joseph Jefferson seemed in good spirits and "showed no indications of being unusually depressed."

"As an advocate for LGBT youth, Mr. Jefferson surely made a positive impact on those he met and counseled. But this same nurturing and enrichment he offered to others, was absent in his own life to such a degree, that he felt the only way to deal with the pain of his existence was to end it," wrote author and activist Nathan James on Facebook.

Joseph Jefferson becomes only the latest young LGBT person to commit suicide in recent weeks. Jefferson also becomes the third Black LGBT youth to commit suicide in three weeks.

At only 26-years-old, Joseph Jefferson was only beginning his journey in life and seemingly had so much to offer the community and other Black gay youth. Will this ever end? Will there ever be hope for young people such as Joseph Jefferson, Aiyisha Hassan, Raymond Chase and Tyler Clementi?

UPDATE: There will be a tribute tonight to Joseph Jefferson at  the "I Love My Boo"  forum at GMHC on West 24th Street in Manhattan.

Article On Morehouse's Cross-Dressing Gay Community Stirs Controversy, Response From University President

The latest print issue of VIBE magazine contains a provocative article called "The Mean Girls Of Morehouse" which looks into the lives of four current and former Morehouse students who dress as "women" and represent a small segment of the openly gay community at Morehouse. And it raised hell on the internet streets.
The article, written by Aliya S. King, profiles four students (two current, two former) who choose to dress as women, meaning they "...rock makeup, Marc Jacobs tote bags, sky-high heels and Beyonce - style hair weaves."

The story itself developed from the controversial dress code policy issued by Morehouse recently stating that students were not allowed to wear caps, do-rags, sunglasses or sagging pants on the Morehouse campus or at college-sponsored events. But what had folks up in arms at the male-only school was the line that students couldn't wear women’s clothing: dresses, tops, tunics, purses or pumps. So, who wears high heels at Morehouse you ask?
The first student profiled goes by the name of Diamond.
“Morehouse wasn’t ready for me,” says Diamond. “I’m about freedom of expression. I’m about being whomever you truly are inside. I came to Morehouse because of all the historical leaders that attended and impacted the world so heavily. You know, I really wanted to follow in their footsteps. I don’t think Morehouse believes that someone like me—someone who wears heels and dresses—can uphold that reputation. But they’re wrong"

Diamond is a part of a crew, "The Plastics," made up of seven or eight former and current Morehouse students, some of whom share a townhouse in Atlanta. He tells VIBE that he and his crew took their name from the 2004Lindsay Lohan flick, Mean Girls, a nod to the A-list crowd. The Plastics all assume that the recent dress code policy was aimed directly at their personal freedom of expression, which sometimes includes foundation, cross-dressing, and even taking female hormones.

But Kevin Rome, the former vice president for Student Services for the College, says that people like Diamond are a small minority of the students at the College, and shouldn’t make up such a large percentage of the press the school has received about the appropriate attire policy. He says, “There are nearly 3,000 students at Morehouse, and maybe three that [the ban on women’s attire] applies to. We’re giving such a large influence on a minute population. It’s not representative of the school.”

And it's also not representative of the school's gay community. One of the most interesting pieces of the article talks about homophobia within the gay community itself. The Plastic's say their relationship with the gay community can be downright hostile. "It’s because we have a certain aura,” says Michael, one of the Plastics. "We don’t care what people think about us when it comes to how we dress and carry ourselves. Some people are uncomfortable with it.
Kevin Webb, who runs Safe Space, an organization that supports the gay community at Morehouse puts it this way: “In some ways, it’s like it’s okay to be gay. But not that gay. Or it’s okay to be queer. But not that queer,” he says. “There is homophobia even within the gay community—which is something were
have to deal with if Morehouse is going to progress.”
And if you're wondering about the stance the administration takes on the issue, here's the response from the college's President that was sent out to Morehouse alum:

Dear Morehouse Community:

Next week, Vibe magazine, a hip-hop music and culture monthly, will publish in their October/November issue an article on Morehouse. I strongly disagree with the likely substance of this article and wanted to write to you directly to share my views.
The article, entitled, “The Mean Girls at Morehouse,” purports to examine the lives of some of our gay brothers as it relates to the enforcement of our appropriate attire policy we enacted a year and a half ago. It seems clear from the headline alone that the Vibe editorial team’s intent is to sensationalize and distort reality for the purpose of driving readership. The title of the article speaks volumes about a perspective that is very narrow and one that is, in all likelihood, offensive to our students whether gay or straight.
As president of this institution, as a Morehouse graduate and as a father, I am insulted by what is to be published. Addressing our young men as “girls” is deeply disturbing to me, no matter what the remainder of the article may say. Morehouse has for 140 years developed men—men who are equipped to live and contribute to an increasingly diverse, global and complex world.
Let me be clear. I believe in the freedom of the press and its critical role in examining all facets of our society to foster reasoned discourse and to promote understanding of topics both popular and unpopular. We will not always agree with what is written. I disagree, however, in journalism that attempts to malign and distort, rather than inform and enlighten.
I need not tell you that the black male is already faced with challenges in nearly every aspect of his life. Injustices abound. Families are broken. And our young black boys are failing to reachtheir potential in grade school and middle school at pandemic rates. And while the world grapples with complicated issues related to economic disparity, racism, sustainability, and diversity and tolerance, Morehouse stands in the breach, seeking answers to the pressing issues facing our young men, encouraging dialogue and expecting excellence.
The world is complex, and it is diverse. Morehouse reflects that same complexity and that same diversity. It is unfortunate that the Vibe article will heighten misunderstandings and advance or inform little.
In the end, no media outlet can shape who we are or in any way diminish our mission. But together we can encourage media outlets like Vibe to provide fair, well-researched and balanced journalism.
Finally, Morehouse will stand by its values. We will continue to set high standards and focus on the development of our young men. Thank you for standing with us.

EDDIE LONG CAN REPENT BY APOLOGIZING FOR GAY BASHING

Embattled mega church preacher Bishop Eddie Long came as close to confessing his sexual debauchery as any debaucher could come without actually confessing. He cryptically told his singing, shouting, handclapping flock that he wasn't a perfect man, and that he would face some painful situations. This was a good step forward for Long. He didn't do the usual soft shoe, duck and dodge around the issue. Or worse, defiantly claim that he was being persecuted for being a pure and righteous man of God. Or even worse still, break out in a teary eyed plea to family and flock for forgiveness.

These are the stock ploys that a bevy of celeb preachers, politicians and a Pope snatch at when caught with their sexual hypocrisy exposed. Long didn't go there. He simply spun his hypocrisy as that of a man engaged in a thoughtful and reflective soul search. Long now should take one more step in his soul search and apologize for his greatest sin. That's his near decade long, relentless, gay bash. Long didn't just do what many conservative fundamentalist black preachers do and quietly twist scripture and verse to make the case that God condemns gays to eternal hell and damnation. He actively led crusades against gay marriage, and by extension gays, railed against them on his websites, in fiery sermons, loudly backed George W. Bush's federal amendment banning gay marriage, and led a slanderous march to Martin Luther King, Jr.'s gravesite to denounce gay marriage. Each new accusation that Long used his youth training academy as a cover to procure kid sex, may ultimately prove him to be not just a hypocrite, but a full blown sexual predator.

Long then should issue a statement, better still do what he does best, and deliver a sermon on tolerance. That's tolerance toward all those who have a different sexual preference. He should invite the leaders of the nation's top gay rights organizations to take a front row seat at his church and look them square in the eye, as he preaches his sermon on tolerance. He should then make it plain to his mostly black congregation that he does not want them to mindlessly and blindly shout "Jesus Jesus" and "it's time to praise him," and sang hymns such as "white as snow" as they did when he made his kind of sort of admission of guilt from the pulpit. This reinforces the despicable notion that blacks are narrow, bigoted, and brain dead zombies who will give a pass to even the most blatant and outrageous criminal and sexual behavior and exploitation as long as it's done in the name of Jesus and the offender is black.

Afterwards, Long should announce in tandem with gay organization leaders that New Birth Missionary Baptist Church will set up a new academy dedicated to the principle and practice of tolerance. He took a light step in that direction some time back when at the prodding of Soulforce, a gay Christian advocacy group, he played at having a dialogue on his attitudes toward gays. That didn't go very far. This time it should.

Long set the standard of bigotry and bias for a new generation of conservative fundamentalist mega black churchmen on gay rights. An apology and outreach won't undo that. It can though be a step toward his personal repentance. 

God, I'm sure, would approve.
