Zendaya for Elle UK - December 2020!
Zendaya covers the December/January 2021 issue of ELLE and opens up to her friend Timothée Chalamet in an exclusive interview about her historic Emmy win, what it was like making “Malcolm & Marie” in quarantine, shooting “Dune” and the importance of joy.

On her historic Emmy win: “I was nervous about the possibility of having to get up and speak. So, I was like, “Okay, let me just write down a few little bullet points.” Usually I would just go up there and say what’s in my heart, but everybody was like, “No, I think you should definitely write something down.” So, the day of, I just wrote a little thing down to have just in case. And that was very helpful. I was very nervous, but I’m glad my family was there. Everybody was there and screaming, as my family does! We are a very loud family, and I was worried that they were going to be screaming for too long. And the little clock would start ticking, and I’d be like, “Ah, thank you.” And then it would be over. I got to feel all fancy and put on this beautiful custom [Armani Privé] gown and do my hair and makeup and then just be with my family in the living room, which was actually quite nice. And we got to take pictures in the house, so I knew I would be happy with them.”
Timothée Chalamet: “You got photo approval.”

Zendaya: “Yeah, there was none of the usual “Ah, I hate that picture” that is suddenly circulating everywhere. So, it wasn’t bad. It actually worked really smoothly the way they virtually transitioned people over to different media outlets. They really had it all figured out.”

Timothée Chalamet: In your speech, you said that there’s hope in the young people, and it seemed as if hope was a big part of the message you were trying to get across. What in the past year has given you hope? And what does hope mean to you?

Zendaya: “Well, my intention there was really just to be honest, because it feels like a very hopeless time, specifically in this country. I know a lot of my peers feel enraged and exhausted and tired of living and growing up in a system that feels like it wasn’t built for us. At this moment in time, it is hard to find joy and beauty in things, and I really think that is important. Right now, we as Black people need to embrace joy and not let it be taken away from us.”

On how she embraces joy in her own life: “I experience moments of joy when I’m able to create art and be involved in projects that I connect to deeply, whether it be Euphoria or Malcolm & Marie, the movie I shot during quarantine with [Euphoria creator] Sam Levinson. Another thing that gives me joy is seeing people’s responses to my work. With Euphoria, it’s been incredibly moving to see how people connected to what Sam has written. I’ve heard so many beautiful stories about addiction and recovery, and that brings me hope.”

On what else brings her hope these days: “I find hope in my peers, the people who are out there on the streets doing the work—people I admire and I go to for advice and information on what’s happening, so that I can make sure I’m using my platform in the most strategic way I can to help. There is so much hope in young people, and when I say young people, I do mean myself—people my own age—but I also mean younger. These really young kids are so smart and have such a clear understanding and plan for how they want this world to change. Even my little nieces! They are so aware, and I mean, I can take credit for some of that, because I’ve been schooling them. But they also have their own point of view. We have discussions about [the world]. They know what’s up, and they want to be part of that change.”

On what shooting Dune was like for her: “Oh, man. I had a great fricking time. I felt like such a bada**, just wearing that suit and walking around on these beautiful rock formations. It felt cool and so exciting to be part of the magic.”

Timothée Chalamet: Tell me about shooting Malcolm & Marie in quarantine with Sam Levinson. To my understanding, before anybody was really shooting anything in quarantine, you guys did it very safely. You obviously have an amazing creative relationship with him.

Zendaya: “Sam is like family to me. I talk to him almost every day and night, every other day. Sometimes we talk about Euphoria, and sometimes we just talk about life or current events or whatever. So, we got this idea that we could do a movie in quarantine safely with a very small number of people. We used some crew members from Euphoria who obviously didn’t have a job because filming had stopped. I was fascinated with this idea of shooting a film with just two characters [John David Washington and Zendaya play the titular roles]. It was like a play. It was challenging for all of us, because it was shot in just one space. Being quarantined together was great in some ways, because it allowed us to workshop and really dig into the material while we were there.”

“It was an actor’s dream. But it was also a little nerve-racking. When you have an idea, and you’re putting your own money into it—I mean, I was literally using my own clothes on set and doing my own hair and makeup—it’s hard not to get a little bit insecure. Like, “Oh my gosh, am I really doing this?” It was one of the first times I just went for something, and I’m so grateful and proud of it. Working with Sam, obviously, and Marcell [Rév, Euphoria’s cinematographer] was really special, but then John David Washington is just so brilliant and such a wonderful person.”
Timothée Chalamet: Well, it sounds like you’re staying busy, but what are you most looking forward to when things get back to normal? What’s the one thing you haven’t been able to do in the past six months that’s number one on your to-do list once it’s deemed safe?

Zendaya: “I don’t know—I think that things are going to stay different for quite a long time. We’re probably going to have a new normal to keep people safe and healthy, which I’m totally down for. I mean, I love traveling. I don’t feel super-safe traveling all over the place quite yet, but I can’t wait to get back to it. I love being able to visit different places. I think that’s one of the beautiful parts of our job. Anytime I go on either a press tour or travel for work, which is really the main reason why I travel, I try to find as many museums and educational tours as I can. Some people think it’s boring, but I absolutely love it. You get all this information, and you go home and you start telling people random things like, “Did you know that this was built and….” I just love having random facts. So, yeah, I miss traveling for sure. Luckily, I’ve been able to work, so I’m grateful for that, being able to work safely. I do miss being able to actually go to the movies. But you know what? All of that can wait.”

#RHOA: Kenya's Daughter Brooklyn Had A Farm-Themed 2nd Birthday Party!
Kenya Moore's daughter Brooklyn woke up on her second birthday to find a few festive surprises. In addition to fancy, pink-and-gold balloons, Brooklyn Doris Daly got her own baby Bentley — and there was a barnyard bash to follow.

To celebrate their daughter's big day, Kenya and Marc Daly hosted a farm-themed party with a few recognizable guests. Eva Marcille and Kandi Burruss both hit the outdoor event and captured some of its cute moments on their Instagram Stories.

Kandi shared a video from Brooklyn's birthday serenade, which took place in front of a dazzling, farm-animal-theme cake. The confection had multiple tiers — because after all, that's how Brooklyn does cake — and one layer was swathed in a spotted cow print.
The bash also allowed guests to pet some live animals, and Eva shared footage of her son Mikey and the birthday girl getting some one-on-one time with a chicken.

Wearing braids and a straw hat, Kenya dressed to match the party's theme, and so did the guests. Mikey opted for a flannel shirt and little cowboy boots, and the 2-year-old guest of honor wore bright pink overalls.

Peele signed a lucrative five-year feature deal with Universal Studio back in Oct. 2019.

Beyonce Teams Up With Peloton For Multi-Year Partnership Benefiting HBCUs!
Okay, ladies (and gentlemen), it's time to get in formation on your Peloton bikes!
On Tuesday (November 10), it was announced that Beyoncé has teamed up with the exercise equipment and media company to form a multi-year partnership to commemorate Homecoming season at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).

As a way to celebrate HBCUs' homecoming season, especially since most of this year’s homecoming celebrations will be virtual due to COVID-19, Beyoncé and Peloton "worked closely to create a series of themed workout experiences to page homage to HBCUs most cherished time of the year and to help extend Homecoming to Peloton members via classes across multiple fitness categories, including indoor cycling, running, strength, bootcamp, yoga and meditation."

“Peloton and I both believe that the power of music can help uplift, motivate and inspire those on their fitness journeys,” the legendary entertainer said in a statement. “I’ve been a Peloton member for several years, and I’m excited to partner with a company that helps people, young and old, be the best versions of themselves, in an innovative and adaptable way. I’m proud to celebrate the students at HBCUs with this donation, to encourage them to find and embrace their own wellness regimens.”
Additionally, through Peloton’s app, Queen Bey and Peloton are gifting two-year Peloton Digital memberships with a full library of fitness classes to students at 10 HBCUs, including Bennett College, Clark Atlanta University, Grambling State University, Hampton University, Howard University, Morehouse College and Morehouse School of Medicine, Spelman College, Texas Southern University and Wilberforce University.

Peloton also plans to "build on its relationships" with each of the HBCUs to "pursue long-term recruiting partnerships at both the internship and undergraduate levels."

"Beyoncé's commitment to empowerment and artistic expression is an inspiration to the entire Peloton community," said Peloton's Head of Music Gwen Bethel Riley. "It is a privilege to be able to work closely with her and her extraordinary team to broaden access to our platform and collaborate on incredible offerings we think our members will love."

#HISTORIC: Miss Mississippi Asya Branch was crowned the winner of Miss USA 2020!
A new Miss USA has been crowned, and this time it was Miss Mississippi who took the title.
Asya Branch, 22, became the 68th woman to win the pageant, which was held at Graceland — the former estate of Elvis Presley — in Memphis, Tennessee, on Monday night.
Branch was crowned by Miss USA 2019 Cheslie Kryst, who had the longest reign in history after the pandemic forced organizers to reschedule the spring pageant.

During the competition's two final rounds — the final word and the final question — Branch was asked to speak on gun laws and the political polarization of the US.
"As someone who grew up in a home with guns, I learned from an early age how to load, how to fire, and gun safety," she said. "And I think that education should be available to everyone. I believe that we should require people to pass training and safety courses before they're allowed to purchase a gun and before receiving a permit."

"I think it's important that we not ban guns, because obviously, people will find a way to get what they want anyway, but I think it's our Second Amendment right, and I think we just need more safety surrounding that," she added.
When Branch was asked what must be done to bring America "back together," the pageant queen said the US would need to "set a better example" if it wanted to "continue to be the greatest nation."

"I think this is an issue of trust," she said. "We've lost trust in the systems that seem to keep our country running — from the media to business to our government. It's all about restoring that trust and coming together and working together to heal and trust in the systems."
Branch attended the University of Mississippi, where she once watched a football game with Morgan Freeman. She is currently working as a model and has her own cosmetic line, Branch Beauty.
"What started as a makeup obsession has turned into a lucrative business that I am very proud of," she wrote on her Miss USA bio.
Last year, she became the first African-American woman to win the title of Miss Mississippi USA, which made her eligible to compete in the Miss USA 2020 pageant.
"It's just so amazing to me that it's 2019 and we're still having firsts in the African-American community," she told WREG in October 2019, after she was crowned. "It just blows my mind that I was able to be a first within my life."

Branch credits her pageant career with giving her the confidence to talk about her experience growing up with an incarcerated parent
Her father has been behind bars for half of her life.
The pageant queen revealed that she decided to share her story after a Miss Mississippi judge encouraged her to be open about her past history.

"I flashed back to the day I came home from school and daddy wasn't waiting on the porch," she wrote in Guideposts. "Instead, our house was surrounded by strange cars — government vehicles. I was not quite 11 years old, and I was so scared. Where was daddy?"
Branch said her family lost their farmhouse after her father — who will be released in 2022 — was sent to prison. The parents of her friends stopped letting them go to her house for slumber parties. When she got older, Branch worked multiple jobs so she could afford to buy marked-down pageant gowns.

"Maybe if I spoke about my experience openly, it would help other children of incarcerated parents feel less alone," Branch wrote.
As Miss Mississippi, Branch has worked to fund more than 300 letters between incarcerated mothers and their children. She said she has also written to each inmate's child to offer her support.

"I tell them that I personally know how hard their circumstances are," she added. "But that they can do anything they put their minds to."

Britney Spears Refuses To Perform Again If Her Father Controls Her Career!
Britney Spears is “afraid” of her father Jamie and refuses to perform so long as he continues to have control of her career.
“My client has informed me that she is afraid of her father,” Britney Spears’ attorney Samuel D. Ingham III said Tuesday in a Los Angeles court hearing related to Spears’ conservatorship case, according to The Associated Press. “She will not perform again if her father is in charge of her career.”
Despite that bombshell, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Brenda Penny declined to suspend Spears père, though she said she would hear future arguments for his suspension or removal, which Ingham said were forthcoming.
“I don’t believe there is a shred of evidence to support my client’s suspension,” Jamie’s attorney Vivian Lee Thoreen said, describing Ingham’s statements about Britney and Jamie’s relationship as inadmissible hearsay.

Judge Penny did, however, rubber-stamp corporate fiduciary Bessemer Trust’s role as co-conservator at Spears’ request; Britney’s team alleges that Jamie “had nointention of working with” with Bessemer, per the AP. At one point, Ingham described Spears, 38, as a “high-functioning conservatee,” and added that she has not spoken to her father in a long time, though Thoreen blamed that on Ingham.

Britney’s mother, James’ ex-wife Lynne, made a statement through her attorney calling the relationship between her daughter and her ex-husband toxic.
“It has broken Lynne’s heart that things have come to this point,” the statement via attorney Gladstone N. Jones, said.
“Contentiousness is not uncommon in families,” the statement continued, “but this is not a usual family.”

Spears has been under a conservatorship since her legendarily bad 2007, which included her days-long marriage to a childhood friend, Jason Alexander (who came out to support her this summer). In August, Jamie told The Post he’s never been motivated by anything other than Spears’ best interests.
Despite the increasingly heated legal battle over Spears’ conservatorship — and the attendant social media movement, #FreeBritney — the singer has maintained an incongruously cheery presence on social media.
“I know that there have been a lot of comments and a lot of people saying a lot of different things about me,” she said on Instagram Nov. 2. “But I just want to let you guys know that I am fine. I’m the happiest I’ve ever been in Years!

Lucille Bridges, Mother Of Activist Ruby Bridges, Dies At 86!
Lucille Bridges, the mother of civil rights activist Ruby Bridges, who walked with her then-6-year-old daughter past crowds screaming racist slurs as she became the first Black student at her all-white New Orleans elementary school, has died at the age of 86.

On her Instagram account Tuesday evening, Ruby Bridges said, “Today our country lost a hero. Brave, progressive, a champion for change. She helped alter the course of so many lives by setting me out on my path as a six year old little girl. Our nation lost a Mother of the Civil Rights Movement today. And I lost my mom. I love you and am grateful for you. May you Rest In Peace.”

Bridges gave birth to Ruby in Tylertown, Mississippi, in 1954 — the same year as the landmark Brown vs. the Board of Education of Topeka, Kansas, decision that ended racial segregation in schools.

Her daughter went on to become an icon of the Civil Rights Movement, memorialized in Norman Rockwell’s famous painting “The Problem We All Live With” which depicts a tiny Ruby in a white dress carrying her notebooks and a ruler surrounded by much taller U.S. Marshals. But Ruby Bridges once credited her parents as the forces behind her history-making achievement.
“My parents are the real heroes,” the U.S. Marshals Service once quoted her as saying during a ceremony at an art gallery showing the painting. “They (sent me to that public school) because they felt it was the right thing to do.”

Mayor LaToya Cantrell recognized Lucille Bridges’ contributions in a statement Tuesday night.
“Today we mourn the loss of one of the mothers of the Civil Rights Movement in New Orleans with the passing of Lucille Bridges — mother of five, including Ruby Bridges,” Cantrell said. “May she rest in God’s perfect peace.”
Cantrell said Ruby’s father, Abon Bridges, was initially reluctant to send his daughter to the all-white William Frantz Elementary School as a first-grader in 1960, at the request of the NAACP. But his wife insisted. According to the National Women’s History Museum, Lucille Bridges wanted her daughter to have the education she never had. She walked her daughter to school every day, the museum said.

“Lucille’s strength was unbounded during this period,” Cantrell said, adding: “Lucille insisted, seeing the action as an opportunity to help all Black children, and walked Ruby, with federal marshals, past chanting and taunting white protesters and to the schoolhouse. Mother and daughter both revealed their character and courage.”
Bridges, too, endured hardship as she pushed for her daughter to receive an equal education, WGNO-TV reported.

The news outlet said Bridges was born to sharecroppers in Mississippi and did not finish an elementary school education. But she was determined for her daughter to pursue the same opportunities that her white peers received.
The Bridges eventually moved to New Orleans in search of better work and education opportunities for their family, according to the National Women’s History Museum. Abon Bridges died in 1978.

The image of Ruby from the Norman Rockwell painting has gotten renewed attention in recent days in an adapted version that shows Vice President-elect Kamala Harris walking alongside Ruby. Harris is the first Black woman elected to the vice presidency.

Pennsylvania Postal Worker Says He Lied About Ballot Tampering!
A Pennsylvania postal worker says he lied about there being a ballot tampering issue.
Richard Hopkins led the nation to believe that he was instructed by a postmaster to backdate ballots mailed after Election Day, a made-up story that was picked up and shipped by Republicans who are hell-bent on saying that Joe Biden won the presidential election due to voter fraud. Now, Hopkins is walking back those statements.

His lies made it to GOP officials, and Republicans like Sen. Lindsey Graham who wrote a letter to the Justice Department for a federal investigation, Yahoo! News reports via The Washington Post. Hopkins’s statement stood as confirmed evidence for Red Ties, and it led to Attorney General William Barr authorizing federal prosecutors to look further into the allegations. Barr received some pushback from Democrats and department officials, who noted that Barr’s move was going against a long-standing policy that the federal government should not investigate voter fraud claims until after the election results are in and certified, writes Gerren Keith Gaynor of the Grio.

Hopkins took back his claim on Monday in an affidavit after talking to investigators from the U.S. Postal Service of Inspector General, according to the Post. After learning the new information, Democrats serving on the House Oversight Committee tweeted the “whistleblower completely RECANTED.”

No details about why Hopkins made up the story have been confirmed. However, Trump supporters and others donated more than $136,000 to the man in a GoFundMe fundraiser. “Your donations are going to help me in the case I am wrongfully terminated from my job, or I am forced into resigning due to ostrizization [sic] by my co-workers,” the page said. “It will help me get a new start in a place I feel safe and help me with child support until I am able to get settled and get a job.”

The Kardashians React To Larsa Pippen's Bombshell Tell-All Interview!
The Kardashians are reportedly not happy about Larsa Pippen's recent bombshell interview, in which she claimed she dated Tristan Thompson before Khloe Kardashian, accused Travis Scott of lying on her, and alleged that Kanye West "brainwashed" the Kardashian-Jenner family against her.
They don't trust her and her intentions because they caught Larsa "talking behind their backs and it was all just too much," a source close to the Kardashians told E! News.

Another insider added that Larsa's former BFF Kim Kardashian doesn't have any type of relationship with her or the rest of the Kardashian family. "They all think Larsa is toxic energy," the source said, noting that Kim though "has a soft spot for Larsa" because "they have been through a lot together."
Despite Kim's alleged "soft spot" for her former bestie, who she along with the rest of the Kar-Jenner crew unfollowed back in July, she and her family all think Larsa is "trying to stay relevant and Kim doesn't appreciate the accusations regarding Kanye," said the source. "The family is very protective over one another and all feel like she violated their privacy by dishing out details to the public."

As previously reported, Larsa told Dax Holt and Adam Glyn on the “Hollywood Raw Podcast" earlier this week that “[Kanye] has literally brainwashed the whole family into thinking I don’t even know what. I don’t even know. He talks so much about me being this and that and this and that."
When asked if she had a bad run-in with Kanye at any point, she responded, “No, we always had a great relationship. I don’t know. When people are not happy and trying to figure out their own sh*t. I feel like they want to put pressure and blame other people for their situation. [...] So, if Kanye feels he and Kim are better without me, then let them be without me."

At a different point in the interview, Larsa claimed that she was the person that would take Kanye's calls "when he wanted to rant," saying she would listen to him and console him no matter the hour of his calls. However, she said that she eventually blocked him because she was "drained," which "really upset him."
"So, he turned that into oh she’s this and she’s that. [The Kardashians] all started to ride his wave," Larsa alleged. "If you’re that easily swayed, like the wind, then do I really give a f**k? Should I give a f**k? I don’t know. Was I hurt by it? Yes. But at the same time, I’m like, I’ve done nothing. I’ve never done one thing. I’ve been the most honest and truthful best friend to all of them.”

According to the Kardashian source, Kanye always had issues with Larsa, ever since he married Kim, E! News reported. "He never trusted her," the insider explained, adding that Larsa hasn't been in touch with Kim in a while.
