Historically Black Universities and Colleges—lovingly referred to as HBCUs— represent the best that Black culture has to offer. This month, EBONY will delve into what makes these institutions so special and why ‘Homecoming’ holds such a special place in the hearts of alumni. From the halls of academia to the stages of entertainment, we’ll shine a spotlight on the most innovative entrepreneurs, notable entertainers, brilliant academics, and, of course, our HBCU marching bands and dance teams. While these schools are becoming more popular in mainstream media, it is the power of alumni that is keeping the legacies alive—like Brian Tyree Henry.
Brian Tyree Henry is an Emmy, Tony and Academy Award-nominated actor with a career spanning film, television and theater. He received his undergraduate degree from Morehouse College ‘04 and a master’s from the Yale School of Drama. #RHOA: Cynthia Bailey Calls RHOA Return 'Amazing,' Says Latecomer Phaedra Parks 'Definitely Did Her Thing' in Season 16
While she didn't know how producers would weave in Parks' story, Bailey admitted, "This is her season"
Phaedra Parks' return to The Real Housewives of Atlanta will be juicer than the peach she's holding!
At the Two Ts in a Pod live podcast event on Nov. 1, Cynthia Bailey was reflecting on her own "amazing" return to the hit Bravo show when she teased what fans can expect to see in the upcoming season.
"I feel like Atlanta was No. 1 for so long and I felt like we slid down," she began. "We were not where I think we should've been. It was fun to get back with the girls... there's something to be said about bringing in some fresh blood and some of the old girls as well."
Phaedra Parks Isn’t Taking Advice from Any Housewives on DWTS: ‘I Need to Win, They Haven’t Won’ (Exclusive)
Cynthia Bailey.
Bailey shared how impressed she was with Parks' return. She revealed that the Traitors star had joined the cast for the last two weeks of filming and blew everyone out of the water.
"She was on another Bravo show called Married 2 Medicine," the Bravolebrity said of Parks. "She got the call and was like 'I'm outta here!' It was just amazing because I've never seen in the history of the show — with any franchise — a housewife, or past housewife, whatever you want to call it, come back with literally two weeks left and come back as a full housewife with a full red peach in her hand."
Before Parks' return, the show had been "anchored" around Porsha Williams and her storyline.
"I know she comes with us for our last international trip," Bailey continued, adding that she wasn't sure how producers would weave her into the season. "We got a lot done. I will say Phaedra definitely did her thing in the two weeks that she had. The season finale... this is her season."
In July, Parks first revealed that she was returning for the upcoming 16th season. And while fans long wanted her to come back to the series that made her a household name, she told PEOPLE was waiting for the right time.
"They called and I answered," she explained in an August interview. "We were the No. 1 franchise of Housewives and I was a part of making that franchise a successful franchise. And I would love to bring the franchise come back to its heyday."
Parks went on to explain that she was excited to reunite with Williams on the show, who coincidentally also returned to RHOA this season after a brief absence.
"Of course, I love Porsha," Parks said. "We are the original frick and frack."

#HipHopNews: Young Thug Brings T.I. 'outta Retirement' As They Reunite After Jail Release
Young Thug is looking to make up for lost time after being released from jail and appears to have something cooking with T.I.
After spending two and a half years behind bars, the Atlanta rapper was freed last week after accepting a plea deal in his YSL RICO case, the longest-running trial in Georgia state history (and surely one of its most turbulent).
Thug, who has just begun serving a lengthy 15-year probation term, seems to be getting right back to business as he reunited with one-time mentor T.I. on Monday night (November 4).
In a video shared on Instagram by the Grand Hustle general, the pair can be seen hanging out together and flashing big smiles to the camera as Thugger teases a comeback.
“Aye, man. What you gotta tell these people?” T.I. asks his “About the Money” collaborator in the clip, to which he replies: “Back, Jack […] No cap in my rap. The right way.”
T.I., who is set to deliver his last-ever performance next month and is currently prepping his 12th and final album, also hinted at new music in the caption.
“Yeahhhhh YKWTFGO. The Kings have Reconvened #KingJeffrey #KingSr Guess I’m officially outta retirement [shrug emoji] For tonight [crying face emoji] #welcomehome,” he wrote.
T.I. isn’t the only rapper Young Thug is reconnecting with since regaining his freedom.
In one of his first social media posts as a free man, the YSL honcho publicly reached out to Lil Baby for a new collaboration.
“Wham let’s drop one on these rats peter,” he wrote, referring to his protégé and frequent collaborator by his nickname.
Blackboard-style billboards have since popped up in Los Angeles and Chicago featuring the words, “Whatever Wham Say Goes,” a nod to a previous tweet from Thug when he was still in jail.
Lil Baby appears to be on board with the idea as he responded by posting a video on his Instagram Stories soundtracked by his and Thug’s 2020 song “We Should.”
The 4PF rapper also gave Thug a warm welcome home, writing in a follow-up post: “I missed you mf!!!! Welcome home my brudda! Thank God you able to get back to your fam in good health and spirits! Wish ya none but billions jack! #whatwhamsaysgoes.”
While a new collaboration between Thug and Baby would be no surprise given their history, it also threatens to muddy the waters when it comes to Thug’s relationship with Gunna.
The “Fukumean” rapper was accused of snitching on his label boss when he pleaded out of the YSL RICO case back in December 2022, with Lil Baby among his most vocal critics.
Although Thug’s long-running silence on the matter fueled speculation that they were no longer cool, his own plea deal produced a surprise twist when he requested permission to contact and work with Gunna as part of his probation.
Of course, it’s possible that this was merely a business move given Thug and Gunna’s contractual relationship through YSL.

Michael Jordan Denies Endorsing Donald Trump In 2024 Presidential Election Following Viral Post
Michael Jordan has publicly denied claims that he has endorsed Republican candidate Donald Trump in the 2024 Presidential Election.
On Sunday (Nov. 3), a social media user posted that the NBA icon had “become the latest to endorse Donald Trump for President,” which quickly went viral, as thousands of X users either shared or commented on the post.
Reactions to the post varied, with some expressing their approval of Jordan’s alleged endorsement, while others voiced their distaste over his seeming support of Trump, who served in office from 2016 until 2020.

However, representatives for Jordan released a statement refuting reports of the six-time NBA champion siding with Trump, or any other candidate in the 2024 Presidential Election.
“There is absolutely no truth to the claim that Michael Jordan has made an endorsement in the presidential election,” Jordan’s team told The Independent.
The former Chicago Bull publicly endorsing a politician would be a stark contrast from his days as a player. In 1990, he famously quipped that “Republicans buy sneakers, too” in regards to him not backing Democrat Harvey Gantt in a North Carolina Senate race.

Gantt, who was African-American, would ultimately lose to Republican incumbent Jesse Helms in the race. Jordan would receive backlash for seemingly choosing economics over sociopolitical matters. However, he has argued that he never considered being a leader within the Black community his responsibility.
“I never thought of myself as an activist,” he said in The Last Dance documentary chronicling the Chicago Bulls’ championship 1997-1998 season. “I thought of myself as a basketball player.”
Yet, Jordan revealed that, despite rebuffing his own mother’s request to do a PSA for Gantt, he donated funds to Gantt’s campaign in a show of support.

Dallas Singer Jada Arnell Thomas Hospitalized After Onstage Shooting
In a shocking incident on Saturday night, Jada Arnell Thomas, a 26-year-old singer from Dallas, was hospitalized after being shot onstage following her performance with The Black Academy of Arts and Letters (TBAAL) in downtown Dallas.
According to witnesses speaking with NBC DFW, the shooting occurred while Thomas was signing autographs for fans.
Immediately following the incident, Dallas Fire Rescue transported Thomas to a local hospital, where she is currently reported to be in stable condition, as confirmed by the Dallas Police Department.
Authorities have arrested 26-year-old Micah Williams, who is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Police recovered a handgun at the scene and transported Williams to the Dallas County Jail.
The motive behind the shooting remains unclear, and investigators are still determining whether Thomas and Williams were acquainted prior to the incident.
Curtis King, the founder and president of TBAAL, shared an update on social media, assuring the community that Thomas is “going to be okay.”
He recounted the events leading up to the shooting, noting that Thomas had just expressed gratitude for the support she receives and the safe space provided by TBAAL.
“It was a packed house, people were in line getting autographs, and we heard this shot,” he told NBC DFW, describing the surreal moment as if everything was unfolding in slow motion.
In a swift response, staff members followed the suspected shooter out of the venue and alerted authorities.
Williams was later located in the lobby of a nearby hotel.
King expressed his concern on social media about the increasing prevalence of violence, saying, “It is eerie to know that we now live in a world with people who seem to be bent on doing harm to others, often for no apparent reason.”
He praised Thomas for her strength and resilience, describing her as a “devout child of God” and called for prayers from the community.
In light of this incident, King announced that TBAAL would be implementing enhanced safety measures for future events.
This includes reducing the number of entry points to better screen for weapons, reaffirming their commitment to maintaining a safe, family-oriented environment.
“For 48 years, TBAAL has proudly upheld a tradition of safe, family-oriented events and a welcoming atmosphere,” King emphasized. “Our mission to enrich the community through the arts remains unwavering.”
TBAAL is a multidisciplinary arts institution dedicated to fostering awareness and appreciation of the artistic, cultural, and aesthetic differences rooted in African, African American, and Caribbean arts and letters.
As the community rallies around Jada Arnell Thomas, the hope is for her swift recovery and for a return to a world where artists can perform safely.

A judge ruled that Dr. Dre’s text messages to his former marriage counselor were not threatening enough for a restraining order. Although Dr. Charles Sophy was previously granted a temporary restraining order against Dr. Dre, a judge decided on Tuesday (November 5) that there was not enough evidence that Dr. Dre was actually threatening him, so Sophy’s request for a permanent restraining order was denied.
Dr. Charles Sophy submitted the text messages from Dr. Dre as evidence. One of them reads, according to TMZ,
“You f****** with the wrong one.”
Dr. Dre added in another message,
“What happened Doc? I thought you wanted to talk. Cat got your tongue? You’re going to have to give me a written apology. If not, I’m moving forward. I’m not playing, trust me.”
Dr. Dre, who was previously ordered to stay 100 yards away from him, also texted Dr. Charles Sophy,
“Hey doc, [or] whatever the f*** you’re pretending to be. Just know this. I’m not going anywhere until you explain to me why you tried to talk [redacted name] into saying negative things about me to the media. You’re a piece of s***!!”
Dr. Dre previously called him out for malpractice, alleging the counselor turned his children against him in his divorce from his wife Nicole.

Kim Porter's BFF has spoken up on the confusion about an alleged Kim memoir. After Courtney Burgess, a new witness in Sean "P. Diddy" Combs' sex crime case, was subpoenaed by a federal grand jury to turn over all records depicting the incarcerated rapper, Kim's best friend Lawanda Lane debunks the existence of the alleged memoir.
Courtney, who is the caregiver of Kim and Diddy's twin daughters, tells TMZ that she was best friends with the late model for 30 years prior to her death in 2018. She claims she and Kim lived under the same roof during 20 years of their friendship and she never saw a manuscript written by the late model.
Lawanda, who says she was with Kim every day during the latter's life, says Kim never wrote anything down and that her friend never intended to write a book. She also says the family doesn't know who Courtney is, even though the guy claims he's one of Kim's former associates.
Lawanda insists that she was in charge of going through Kim's belongings and distributing them to family and friends after Kim died. She says that if there was a manuscript, she would have been the one who found it.
However, Courtney's lawyer Ariel Mitchell claims that he obtained the manuscript on a flash drive, which has since been turned over to federal investigators in the Diddy case. Courtney showed up to testify for the grand jury at the federal courthouse in lower Manhattan on October 31 after he was subpoenaed.
The subpoena asked Courtney to turn over all records, including thumb drives, hard drives, electronic storage devices, or devices containing videos and/or other files depicting Diddy. Courtney and his lawyer teased plans to publish Kim's unedited diary via Amazon at the time.
Appearing on NewsNation's "Banfield" after he testified, Courtney said Kim gave him 11 flash drives prior to her 2018 death, including alleged tapes of Diddy's "freak off" parties. The videos allegedly featured eight celebrities, six men and two women, with "two to three" of the individuals were allegedly minors.

Obviously, my friends and family share with me some quotes, which really like make my heart and explode and is extremely humbling. I feel like, finally, for the first time, I’m seen,” Nicole said.
Chauncy Glover Dies: KCBS/KCAL News Anchor Was 39
Chauncy Glover, a news anchor at KCBS and KCAL in Los Angeles, has died unexpectedly. He was 39.
KCAL announced Glover’s death Tuesday, but the cause and exact date were not released.
“We, Sherry and Robert Glover, along with Chauncy’s beloved family, are devastated by the unimaginable loss of our beloved Chauncy,” the family wrote in a statement. “He was more than a son and brother – he was a beacon of light in our lives and a true hero to his community. Chauncy’s compassion and dedication to helping others, especially through the Chauncy Glover Project, changed countless lives and inspired so many young men to pursue their dreams. His talent, warmth, and vision left an imprint on everyone who knew him, and the world is dimmer without him.”
A three-time News Emmy winner, Glover joined KCAL News in October 2023 after eight years at ABC affiliate KTRK in Houston. At KCAL he co-anchored the 5 and 11 p.m. newscasts with Pat Harvey and the 8 and 10 p.m. KCAL newscasts with Suzie Suh.
According to his KTRK biography, Glover “was bitten by the news bug at the age of 5 when his dad built him his very own mini ‘anchor desk’ for his newscasts that he would perform for his family every Sunday after church.” He went on to study broadcast journalism, music and theater at Alabama’s Troy University.
Born on July 10, 1985, in Athens, AL, Glover began his television news career at WTVM in Columbus, GA, joining CBS 47 and Fox 30 in Jacksonville, FL, two years later as a special projects and general assignment reporter. He also worked as a lead late-night reporter at WDIV in Detroit. While working at WDIV, Glover created The Chauncy Glover Project, a mentorship project for teenage boys, for which he was named an Ambassador of the year for his work with Detroit youth.
A sought-after motivational speaker, Glover also was recognized by President Barack Obama and My Brother’s Keeper for his mentoring work.

Love Is Blind’s Ashley Adionser-Francis Shuts Down Pregnancy Rumors: ‘Not Even a Food Baby’
Love Is Blind star Ashley Adionser may have fallen in love fast and tied the knot with Tyler Francis, but they aren’t expecting their first child just yet, despite recent rumors that suggest otherwise.
The marketing director, 32, took to her Instagram Stories on Monday, November 4, to shut down pregnancy speculation after a viral TikTok video sparked the chatter over the weekend. "Hey guys, so it looks like apparently I can’t have a private life at all and can’t keep anything to myself," she said. "Go figure. So I figured I’d just come on here and tell you guys the truth."
Ashley initially joked that she was pregnant, but she couldn’t keep a straight face and quickly burst out laughing as she cleared the air about the footage, which showed her rubbing her stomach at the Baltimore Ravens vs. Denver Broncos game on Sunday, November 3.
"Y’all. The way I downed an espresso martini before that game. I was hungry. I was so hungry," she explained. "And you know the funniest part? I said to myself, I was like, ‘I should not be rubbing my stomach.’ Because when I say I was hungry, we were up so early for that game, I was like, I gotta stop rubbing my stomach in case someone records it and they just assume. I mean y’all take something and just … run with it. No, I’m not pregnant. Jesus."
Ashley added that “people forget” that she and her Love Is Blind castmates were “normal people” before the show. Now, she has to “watch every single thing I say and do.”
The reality star explained that she only found out about the viral TikTok because fans were messaging her with congratulations, and she was confused. She had to ask them what they were talking about. At first, Ashley thought the rumor started because of how many layers of clothes she had on at the game, but she then learned that it was because she had been rubbing her stomach.
“Not even a food baby. Just hungry,” she joked. “I will say this experience definitely made me have more sympathy for [people in the limelight] and I definitely have a different perspective now.”
Ashley got her first taste of the limelight on Netflix’s Love Is Blind season 7, where she met Tyler, 35. Despite the couple hitting a rough patch when Tyler revealed to his fiancée that he had fathered three kids, they tied the knot in the finale.
“Ashley, from the moment I heard your voice, I knew there was something special about you,” the nuclear security officer told his bride in his vows. “You showed me what love truly is … I commit to building a future filled with laughter, understanding and joy. As we embark on this journey together, I pledge my heart, my loyalty and my deepest love to you.”
Ashley told Tyler, “I’ve never felt a love this pure yet fierce. I feel like we can do anything in life as long as we have each other.”
She continued, “You’re my soulmate … I promise to love and respect you as my best friend, my future and my partner in life.”

Kevin Durant Claps Back at Stephen A. Smith’s Critique of Leadership
*NBA star Kevin Durant and ESPN host Stephen A. Smith are at odds after Smith criticized Durant’s leadership.
Following the Phoenix Suns’ season opener, Smith praised Durant’s talent but suggested he lacks the impact to inspire his team, according to Basketball Network. Durant clapped back in a statement to The Athletic, noting that Smith speaks confidently about players and teams without actually knowing them.
“I don’t understand how people even listen to Stephen A.,” the Phoenix Suns superstar said. “I’ve been in the league for 18 years. I’ve never seen Stephen A. at a practice, or a film session, or a shoot-around. I’ve never seen him anywhere but on TV talking s**t about players. He’s a clown to me. He’s always been a clown. You can write that, too.”
Smith’s critique came after the Suns’ recent game against the L.A. Clippers. Durant scored 25 points but recorded no assists, while teammate Devin Booker scored 15 points. Smith’s post-game reaction is echoed by others who have questioned Durant’s leadership style.
“I would disagree, Stephen,” Durant wrote on X in response to Smith’s comments. “I would argue, passionately, that my intangibles have always been on par with my talent.”
Smith reacted to Kevin’s remarks on “First Take” and clarified that his critique was focused on Durant’s leadership track record. Durant pushed back, asserting that he’s always had a vocal presence.
“I’ve always been on this trajectory, of diving deep into the game, not just for myself but for the whole team,” KD said.
“To say that I’m just sitting here, you paint this picture of me coming into the locker room, not talking to my teammates, quiet, not talking to my coaches. Like, come on, man. It’s just ridiculous,” he added.

“I got bad news for Kevin Durant: If you’re expecting me to reciprocate with that kind of pettiness & childishness, it’s not gonna happen… Could you stop lying please? … Who’s allowed to talk about him?”

This candid revelation has sparked renewed conversation, with King responding thoughtfully to Megan’s reflections.
In Megan Thee Stallion: In Her Words, which debuted last Thursday, Megan gives fans an inside look at her rise to fame and personal hardships, including the loss of her mother and the fallout from the 2020 shooting incident involving Lanez. When asked about Megan’s admission by TMZ, King responded with understanding. “I thought it was the first time she was telling her story, and it bothered me that so many people didn’t believe her,” King said. She made it clear that her feelings for Megan haven’t changed, saying, “I’m still nuts about her. I think she’s been through a lot, and I can’t wait to see her documentary. I’m cheering her on.”

Joel Embiid Suspended Three Games Without Pay for Shoving Reporter
The Philadelphia 76ers suffered a tough loss last night against the Phoenix Suns, and they also received bad news on their off day. Former NBA MVP Joel Embiid will be suspended for the next three games for the incident Saturday night with Marcus Hayes of the Philadelphia Inquirer. Embiid took exception to Hayes, who referred to Embiid’s son and late brother.
Although this personal situation took a turn in the locker room, the NBA had to punish Embiid for his conduct. Joe Dumars mentioned how the league understands emotions run high, and Embiid has to refrain from himself.
“Mutual respect is paramount to the relationship between players and media in the NBA,” NBA EVP and Head of Basketball Operations Joe Dumars said. “While we understand Joel was offended by the personal nature of the original version of the reporter’s column, interaction must remain professional on both sides and can never turn physical.”
Embiid has not played yet this season, nursing a knee injury, and announced he will not play in back-to-backs often throughout the rest of his career. Fans, former players, and some columnists like Hayes took exception to this claim.
“Joel Embiid consistently points to the birth of his son, Arthur, as the major inflection point in his basketball career,” Columnist Hayes wrote in his feature. “He often says that he wants to be great to leave a legacy for the boy named after his little brother, who tragically died in an automobile accident when Embiid was in his first year as a 76er.”
“Well, in order to be great at your job, you first have to show up for work. Embiid has been great at just the opposite. Now in his 11th season, he consistently has been in poor condition. This poor conditioning apparently seems to have delayed his debut this season.”
It makes sense as Embiid has nursed injuries throughout his career, during the off-season without the proper amount of time, and played in the 2024 Olympics in Paris. Embiid did not rest enough. However, in a city like Philadelphia, hard work means something.
The Sixers were also fined $100,000 for statements they made about their franchise players’ health. Giving excuses or saying you are going to sit out in advance can rub fans the wrong way, especially in the city of Brotherly Love.
Paul George and the Sixers will visit the Los Angeles Clippers at the Crypto arena, sitting with a 1-5 record. The tide needs to turn over in Philadelphia, and after a three-game suspension, hopefully, Embiid will be fully healthy and ready to play.

King Harris, son of hip-hop legend T.I. and R&B superstar Tiny, has officially become a father, announcing the arrival of his son, King Jr., on Instagram
The 20-year-old posted the news early Tuesday morning, set to the sound of an unreleased song where he raps, “Yeah, you a junior so you know you your daddy’s son.”
Just last month, King and his girlfriend Nana celebrated their soon-to-arrive son with an extravagant royal blue and gold-themed baby shower.
The shower captured the excitement and joy of the family, with Tiny, King’s mother, sharing photos from the celebration on her Instagram. “Counting down the days to meet my grandson,” she captioned one shot of the parents-to-be.
Harris’ father, T.I., previously spoke proudly about his son’s fatherhood journey back in September, telling Hot 107.9, “King’s about to have a son, and I told him, I’m gonna make this the greatest gangster of all time.”
King Jr. now joins a growing family, with Harris’ brother Domani welcoming a daughter earlier this year and sister Zonnique having a daughter in 2020.
