#RHOA: Eva Marcille Reveals What She Really Thinks About SHE by Shereé

The RHOA alum weighed in on Shereé Whitfield's clothing line during a recent appearance on WWHL.

Back in September, after 14 long years, Bravoholics finally got to see the SHE by Shereé fashion show during an episode of The Real Housewives of Atlanta — a fashion show with fashions, that is. After Shereé Whitfield debuted “a total of 24 looks, plus a few extras” on the runway, people were impressed. Now, RHOA alum Eva Marcille — who's spent a lot of years in the fashion game herself — is weighing in with her take.

"It's a long time coming [...] I'm glad she finally did it," Eva shared during a December 11 episode of Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen you can watch in the video above. "Sometimes you have dreams and sometimes they take a while to come into fruition, so the fact that she's finally launched, she's here."

While Eva noted that she wouldn't wear any of the retail mogul's pieces, she did appreciate how Shereé rocks looks from her own line.

"I saw her wearing it at BravoCon with pumps on so ... I think she's in a good place," Eva added.

In addition to SHE by Shereé, Eva also shared her thoughts on The Real Housewives of Potomac ladies' various fashions during a game of "She Gives Me Eva."

While Karen Huger's denim Fendi blazer received an Eva stamp of approval, Gizelle Bryant's wide leg zebra print pants didn't make the cut.

"She never gives me Eva — never," the America's Next Top Model alum quipped, appearing to take sides with the Grande Dame's past assessment of her cast mate's style. Press play on the video above to see more of what Eva had to say.

Check out more of Eva's appearance on WWHL, including her explanation for why she wasn’t at Porsha Williams’ recent wedding.

#HipHopNews: Cardi B Previews New Music Ahead Of Sophomore Album

Cardi B is giving fans an early Christmas gift. The rapper’s new album is not due until next year, but she took to Twitter to share a snippet of new music after being pressured by fans.

“HERE some scraps since yall STARVING,” Cardi told her 27 million followers on Monday.

Cardi takes aim at her haters with the lyrics. “They be watching every time that I post / Posted nothing, always gotta do the most / Bitches sound like you broke,” she raps on the brief clip.

But the unreleased track is unlikely to appear on her upcoming sophomore album. “I just don’t love it,” she responded when asked why the song was scrapped.

Cardi decided to share the music after someone uploaded a fake reference track featuring “cliché” lyrics.

“I just feel like these are things that people think that I want or would say,” she said. “Like party wit Cardi ? That’s so late for me to say is like me saying okruuuuuuu again …..And Jenny from them block sample it’s like cliche & expected…..Nice try tho.”

Cardi announced that the follow-up to 2018’s Invasion of Privacy would arrive sometime in 2023. “I have no choice. I have to put it out,” she told “The Breakfast Club.” “I have like a couple of songs that are definites. I don’t know what’s going on with me. I need to just make up my mind and just put it out.”

It’s been over four years since Cardi released her debut, admitting that her anxiety has contributed to the delay. “I feel like I got so many songs and I just don’t like nothing. I feel like nothing is good enough,” she said. “I got so much fu**in’ money saved up that I just be like, yeah, whatever the f**k.”

President Biden Has signed the same-sex marriage bill into Law.
One Sunday morning in May of 2012, Vice President Joe Biden shocked the country with an unexpected declaration delivered in an interview on NBC’s “Meet the Press”: He came out in public support of same-sex marriage for the first time.

“I am absolutely comfortable with the fact that men marrying men, women marrying women, and heterosexual men and women marrying another are entitled to the same exact rights, all the civil rights, all the civil liberties,” Biden said when asked whether he was comfortable with same-sex marriage.

Those words – which Biden insisted in subsequent years were unplanned – marked a stunning personal evolution for the longtime creature of Washington, who as senator had voted to block federal recognition of same-sex marriages and previously insisted that marriage should only take place between a man and a woman. The interview would also turn out to be a watershed moment in modern American politics, prompting then-President Barack Obama to stake out the same position several days later and giving permission to other national leaders to also follow suit.

This week, a little more than 10 years after that famous TV moment, Biden is marking another important milestone as a staunch protector of LGBTQ rights. Now halfway through his first-term as president, Biden will sign into law on Tuesday a bill passed last week by Congress that mandates federal recognition for same-sex and interracial marriages.

The White House is planning to mark the occasion with a ceremony built to a scale that it believes is fitting of the moment, with one official saying in the days leading up to Tuesday that it was planning to simply “go all out.”

Among the guests invited to the bill signing at the White House are prominent members of the LGBTQ community and activists. They include, according to a White House official, Judy Kasen-Windsor, widow of gay rights activist Edie Windsor; Matthew Haynes, co-owner of Club Q, the LGBTQ club in Colorado Springs where a gunman last month killed five people in a mass shooting; Club Q shooting survivors James Slaugh and Michael Anderson; and a number of plaintiffs from cases that culminated in the landmark civil rights case Obergefell vs. Hodges, in which the Supreme Court ruled in 2015 that same-sex couples can marry nationwide.

Officials also said that Biden’s 2012 “Meet the Press” answer – and the cultural transformation that it helped usher in surrounding the national conversation about same-sex marriage – was expected to be a prominent theme of Tuesday’s bill-signing event. Biden planned to invoke and quote directly from those comments in his remarks, a White House official told CNN.

“That single interview was a transformative moment in Biden’s development as a politician. In the Senate, as a presidential candidate and as vice president, he always had been very cautious around LGBT issues, afraid of taking any position that opponents could use to portray him as a left-winger,” Sasha Issenberg, author of “The Engagement: America’s Quarter-Century Struggle Over Same-Sex Marriage,” told CNN. “But the reception to what he said on ‘Meet the Press’ was universal praise within his party, especially from LGBT advocates and donors who had previously been skeptical of him.”

Basking in the hero-treatment from liberal activists, Biden would go on to aggressively associate himself with LGBT causes in the years to come, and has in particularly been “unusually bold” when it comes to transgender rights, Issenberg said.

The passage of the same-sex marriage legislation in Congress last week also marked a capstone to a year that produced a notable number of bipartisan packages. The bill passed in the House with 39 Republicans joining Democrats in support, after getting through the Senate with 12 Republican senators.

Such a bill had seemed improbable for many in Washington not that long ago, even as public opinion on same-sex marriage has continued to shift over the years: 68% of Americans supported same-sex marriage in 2021, up 14 percentage points from 2014, according to surveys from the nonprofit, nonpartisan Public Religious Research Institute.

But the public rallying and push to pass federal protections for same-sex and interracial marriage intensified this year after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, sparking fresh fears that the nation’s highest court would also reconsider other existing rights around marriage equality.

The day the Supreme Court’s landmark ruling was issued in June, Biden warned that Justice Clarence Thomas “explicitly called to reconsider the right of marriage equality, the right of couples to make their choices on contraception. This is an extreme and dangerous path the Court is now taking us on.”

He would go on to give similar warnings on the campaign trail leading up to the midterms: “We want to make it clear: It’s not just about Roe and choice. It’s about – it’s about marriage – same-sex marriage. It’s about contraception. It’s about a whole range of things that are on the docket,” he said at a Democratic National Committee reception in August.

Philanthropist and Democratic donor David Bohnett, who has been an outspoken gay- and transgender-rights activist and longtime supporter of Biden, told CNN that Tuesday’s bill signing could not come at a more crucial moment.

“[Biden] has demonstrated his support for decades for lesbian and gay civil rights, and Tuesday’s signing into law is a reaffirmation of that during this time when rights are under assault,” Bohnett said. “I think we’re here in response to the hateful and discriminatory actions and tactics by so many in the right-wing and so many that want to dismantle the rights that we fought so hard for for a long time.”

Kevin Hart, Jimmy Fallon, Madonna Named in Class-Action Suit Alleging Bored Ape Yacht Club NFT Fraud ‘Scheme’

A class-action lawsuit contends that stakeholders in Yuga Labs, the parent company of NFT series Bored Ape Yacht Club and its affiliated digital products, engaged in a conspiracy with celebrities to defraud potential investors.

In the complaint, filed Dec. 8 in federal district court in L.A., Yuga partners — including veteran music manager Guy Oseary — are named among the 37 defendants, who include Kevin Hart, Gwyneth Paltrow, Madonna, Justin Bieber, Serena Williams, Jimmy Fallon, Paris Hilton, Snoop Dogg, The Weeknd, Post Malone and NBA star Steph Curry. Also named is Amy Wu, who recently exited troubled cyptocurrency exchange FTX and served as a consultant and board member of the ApeDAO.

The lawsuit seeks monetary damages of at least $5 million on behalf of the plaintiffs and the putative class of “all others similarly situated.”

Reached by Variety, a Yuga Labs spokesperson said, “In our view, these claims are opportunistic and parasitic. We strongly believe that they are without merit, and look forward to proving as much.”

Plaintiffs Adonis Real and Adam Titcher claim that in promoting or endorsing the Bored Ape community through social media and other mediums, these entertainers and athletes caused the value of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) to balloon to “artificially inflated and distorted prices” and engaged in misleading promotions that did not disclose alleged financial compensation. The two also allege that the “scheme” involved MoonPay, which facilitated transfers of ownership to the celebrities named, some of whom were backers of the service. One such investor named is Fallon, whose on-air name-check of MoonPay as “the PayPal of crypto” on a Nov. 11, 2021, episode featuring Mike Winkelmann, the digital artist known as Beeple, is cited, as is a Jan. 24, 2022, appearance on “The Tonight Show” by Hilton.

Another prominent piece of promotion came by way of an FTX teaser commercial featuring Steph Curry carving an ice sculpture of a Bored Ape with the tagline, “When learning about crypto, you’ll be anything but bored.”

The complaint states that there exist more than 103,000 unique account holders of Yuga securities — which includes the Bored Ape offshoot Mutant Ape Club; the metaverse “Otherside,” which offered virtual land sales; and the token ApeCoin — of which Yuga receives a 2.5% royalty rate “every time one of its NFTs is resold on the secondary market.”

The period specified in the class action is from April 24, 2021, to present. At its portfolio height in early 2022, Bored Ape NFTs were fetching in the hundreds of thousands of dollars with what were deemed rare characteristics. Plaintiff Titcher purchased a Mutant Ape and an Otherdeed for the Bored Ape metaverse Otherside, and Real purchased ApeCoin tokens, according to the lawsuit.

Investing in NFTs is not without risk, particularly as the trade of such assets remains unregulated. Also affecting the market is the crypto crash which began in early summer and saw another blow in November with the collapse of FTX. A class-action lawsuit filed Nov. 15 accused FTX celebrity “brand ambassadors” including Larry David, Tom Brady, Giselle Bündchen, Shaquille O’Neal and Steph Curry of deceptively encouraging consumers to invest in the company.

The lawsuit against Yuga Labs and others was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, Western Division. The case is docket no. 2:22-CV-08909-FMO-PLA. The plaintiffs are represented by San Diego firm Scott & Scott, which went public with its intention to form a class action in July. In November, the firm also targeted, via a series of “investigation alerts,” Warner Music Group, Live Nation, Beyond Meat and Poshmark, among others, for breach of fiduciary duties.

Last week, a class action lawsuit against Kim Kardashian, Floyd Mayweather and other celebrity promoters of EthereumMax, was dismissed by a federal judge. Per a CNBC report, judge Michael Fitzgerald of the Central District of California noted in his dismissal, “While the law certainly places limits on those advertisers, it also expects investors to act reasonably before basing their bets on the zeitgeist of the moment.”

Brittney Griner does light basketball workout and her first move is a dunk

Brittney Griner pulled on a pair of black Chuck Taylor sneakers, Phoenix Suns shorts and a T-shirt touting Title IX, and picked up a basketball Sunday for the first time in almost 10 months, her agent told ESPN.

Her first act was a dunk. Griner is still at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio -- where she was taken after her release from a Russian prison last week -- with no immediate plans to leave, Lindsay Kagawa Colas said. And despite the light workout, she said, the 32-year-old Griner isn't ready to say when or if she plans to return to her WNBA career with the Phoenix Mercury.

"If she wants to play, it will be for her to share. She has the holidays to rest and decide what's next without any pressure," Colas said. "She's doing really, really well. She seems to have endured this in pretty incredible ways."

Griner has not spoken publicly since her return but should issue a statement "this week," Colas said.

Griner and her wife, Cherelle, have been staying in a hotel on the base, reuniting with family members and deciding what to do with her freedom. Her father, Ray, and some family members visited her Saturday along with a sizable meal from Smoke Shack barbecue in San Antonio. More barbecue is expected in the coming days.

Griner got a haircut Sunday morning from the San Antonio Spurs' barber, Colas said, cleaning up the dramatic cut she elected to have two weeks ago; Griner's attorney told ESPN last week that the player's famously long hair kept freezing in the cold of the Russian penal colony. It was a simple decision, but one that was taken as a promising sign that she felt a sense of agency during her confinement.

"She thought she was going to be there a while," Colas said.

While Griner was in the Moscow jail where she spent most of her time, she declined her lawyers' offer to bring her a basketball, saying she wasn't ready to think about the game. But Colas said she wasn't sure whether Sunday's workout was a step toward a return to Griner's career.

Several sources close to Griner have said that when she does leave, she will not head to her Phoenix home but to what they describe only as a private, secure location.

"There's no timeline on her return at this point. She's reintegrating into a world that has changed for her now," Colas said. "From a pure security standpoint she's not going to be able to move in the world the way she did. It's not a fate that she asked for, but I think she's going to try to utilize her fame for good."

Colas said Griner will work to raise attention for other Americans who are considered to be wrongfully detained in other countries, particularly Paul Whelan, the former U.S. marine who has been in a Russian prison for four years on espionage charges.

Griner has been upbeat and engaging with everyone she meets, several sources said, eager to converse after 10 months in Russian captivity with few English speakers to engage with.

Roger Carstens, the U.S. special presidential envoy for hostage affairs, told CNN on Sunday morning that Griner was animated and talkative for about 12 of the 18 hours they spent flying from Abu Dhabi, where Griner was exchanged Thursday for convicted Russian arms dealer Viktor Bout.

Griner's reunion with her wife took place in a carefully scripted arrival early Friday.

As Cherelle Griner, Colas and U.S. officials awaited the flight in a large airplane hangar, they began to look for a spot where Cherelle could wait for Brittney without their reunion being seen by news cameras outside the base.

Someone noticed a black "X" taped to a perfect spot on the floor, and Cherelle stood there as she waited. After the plane carrying Brittney landed and taxied to a rest, a medical team and a psychologist boarded, spent about five minutes with her, and then Griner exited the plane, walked into the hangar and embraced her wife for the first time in almost 10 months, Colas said. Military and government personnel stood about 20 yards away as the women shared an extended embrace. The two then adjourned to a "family room" that was pre-stocked with some of Griner's favorite snacks: Reese's peanut butter cups, Cheetos and Dr. Pepper.

Griner left the hangar and went to a hospital on the base, where she got a thorough medical and mental health evaluation. She also got a new pair of glasses; her previous pair broke in Russia about a week ago.

Colas said Nike sent Griner a wardrobe to wear, as all Griner had with her were the few clothes and effects she had in Russia. One item she brought along was a picture of a dinosaur sent to her in Russia by Colas' 6-year-old son, Drew. Under the dinosaur, Colas said, Drew had written "Say nothing."

"I think he heard me on the phone too many times," she said.

Catherine Zeta-Jones Unsure If 'Wednesday' Will Get Season 2

The 53-year-old actress portrays matriarch Morticia Addams in the Netflix series that stars Jenna Ortega in the title role of the gothic teenager but admitted that the cast are unaware if more episodes are on the horizon.

"We have no idea!" she told E! News when asked if there will be a season two.

Her comments come just days after former "Stuck in the Middle" actress Jenna explained that she had always been compared to Wednesday - who first appeared as a cartoon character alongside her gothic family in a 1930s comic strip - but she still had to make some "physical" adjustments to be able to carry off the role.

She said, "People have been telling me I look like her since I was six years old. And I have a pretty dark sense of humour but I had to do things a bit different with my physicality and the way I carried myself. She almost has a social awkwardness. So when she does toxic, manipulative things, you know it's not coming out of malicious intent."

Meanwhile, the "Chicago" star is now playing black market antiques dealer Billie Pearce, in upcoming Disney+ series "National Treasure: Edge of History" - which is set to stream from Wednesday, December 14 - and explained it was "fun to have a little darker side" with the part.

Catherine said, "When Jerry Bruckheimer called, I was thinking, 'What am I gonna play in it? And then they told me that I will be playing this badass antiques dealer, black market trader who is looking for this treasure and is in a cat and mouse game with the leading lady. I was like, 'Yo, stop, this sounds like fun.' "

#NewCoupleAlert?: Dua Lipa Is Reportedly Dating Jack Harlow Now

Dua Lipa has moved on from Trevor Noah and is reportedly dating Jack Harlow, according to a new report.

via Page Six:

Harlow has said that before the album came out in May, he called Lipa on FaceTime to get her blessing. And, and that while he got a somewhat awkward response, she gave him the nod.

But it seems that after meeting the charming rap star in person at the Variety Hitmakers Brunch in Los Angeles in November, she has become quite smitten with the charming rapper, and we’re told they’ve been in “constant communication” ever since.

Meanwhile, according to a source, “he was very interested in her, and was going to strongly pursue [the romance].”

Insiders say he even flew to New York City to meet up with her after her Z100 Jingle Ball appearance on Friday.

And Page Six spies say the two were spotted arriving separately at a restaurant in the Meatpacking District for lunch the next day.

We’re told they appeared to be trying their best not to be seen, but slipped into a private entrance and were later spotted leaving the eatery separately.

According to the source close to Harlow, “he is going to do his best, as he has always been a fan of her.”

Or as he puts it in the track, “Dua Lipa, I’m tryna do more with her than do a feature.”

Lipa was recently linked to Trevor Noah after the pair were photographed hugging after having dinner at Miss Lily’s in New York in late September.

But a source tells us that the dinner was friendly and took place after he taped for her podcast “At Your Service.”

“They haven’t spoken since,” says the source.

She had a serious relationship with Gigi Hadid’s brother Anwar, but the two parted ways in December 2021.

FTX Founder Sam Bankman-Fried Arrested in the Bahamas

Former cryptocurrency billionaire Sam Bankman-Fried has been arrested in the Bahamas.

This appears to set up an extradition of Bankman-Fried to the U.S., as the Bahamian attorney general’s office says it received notice of a U.S. criminal complaint and “likely” extradition request.

In a subsequent statement, the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York tweeted: “Earlier this evening, Bahamian authorities arrested Samuel Bankman-Fried at the request of the U.S. Government, based on a sealed indictment filed by the SDNY. We expect to move to unseal the indictment in the morning and will have more to say at that time.”

The arrest and indictment news comes just hours before Bankman-Fried is scheduled to testify remotely in a House Financial Services Committee hearing on FTX’s collapse.

He has declined a similar request from the Senate Banking Committee and has avoided being served a subpoena.

The timing is surprising, given that prosecutors could have had sworn testimony from Bankman-Fried had they waited just 24 hours. Expect to learn more when the indictment is unsealed, including if there were exigent circumstances (e.g., movement of funds) or if the indictment was unsealed well before the arrest was made.

OOOPS!

Carmelo Anthony's Sons Go Head-To-Head In High School Basketball Game

Twenty years ago, we witnessed two of the most iconic basketball players battle each other in an epic high school game, LeBron James vs. Carmelo Anthony. Yesterday (Dec. 12), we watched their offspring face off against each other on national television for the first time in their careers.

In 2002, LeBron led his team St. Vincent-St. Mary to a 65-45 victory over Carmelo’s Oak Hill Academy squad. And like father like son, last night, Bronny James and his 25th-ranked Sierra Canyon team defeated Carmelo’s son, Kiyan Anthony, and his 22nd-ranked team, Christ the King, 62-51.

Bronny, a 6-foot-3 senior point guard, ended the game with 12 points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals, including being on the finishing end of a high-flying alley-oop jam. Meanwhile, Kiyan, a 6-foot-4 sophomore shooting guard, finished with eight points, including making two wing 3-pointers.

Both LeBron and Carmelo were present for the game. At halftime, the two NBA legends and former teammates for the Los Angeles Lakers embraced each other at midcourt with a long hug and slight conversation. Right now, LeBron is still currently playing for the Lakers, and Melo is a free agent and looking for a team to sign to.

Carmelo spoke about not currently being in the NBA and spending quality time with his son.

“I’m cool,” Carmelo said to ESPN reporter Malika Andrews. “I get to watch my son play, train him, be around him, go to his games. So these are the things that for a long time I haven’t had a chance to do. Now I can be that father and the man I need to be. So I’m cool, man. I would love to play, I love the game, and I’m still in the gym every single day. If the opportunity presents itself, it presents itself, but it’s not something I’m pressing about.”

LeBron and his wife, Savannah James, sat courtside watching their two sons, Bronny and Bryce, and Carmelo and La La Anthony sat together watching Kiyan. Scottie Pippen was also present to watch his son, Sierra Canyon’s 6-foot-2 junior guard, Justin Pippen.

Colorado Hotel Employees In Mark Curry’s Racial Profiling Incident Have Been Suspended

The employees at a Colorado Springs hotel who Mark Curry accused of racially profiling him last week have been suspended, it has been revealed. As previously reported, the comedian shared the incident with his followers on Instagram as he recorded himself drinking a cup of coffee before he was approached by two staff members. One of the employees at The Mining Exchange asks whether he was a guest at the hotel while the other later accused Mark of trying to pull “the race card.”

After the 61-year-old shared the 26-minute on social media, the hotel was quick to issue an apology, saying they would compensate Mark with a free stay in the future and promised to have its staff undergo another training session to avoid such an incident from ever happening again.

Well, TMZ has since reported that the two staffers in question have since been suspended from their jobs, with a rep for the hotel stating, “Employees involved in this matter have been suspended, pending further investigation.” Mark was staying at the hotel because he had a comedy show in the city, though it remains unclear whether he’ll want to take up their offer of a free stay in the future, given how he was treated at the establishment.

“We are committed to providing a safe and inclusive space for all guests and employees. We deeply regret this incident and have reached out to Mr. Curry to offer not only our sincere apologies but a full refund of his stay and an invitation to return, at no cost, anytime in the future,” Neil Cramm, who is the hotel’s general manager, shared in a statement.

“As a respected community partner, we are also using this opportunity to revisit training with our staff, helping to ensure all interactions are reflective of our company values. The Mining Exchange plays a special role in the Colorado Springs community and we will continue working each and every day to ensure that our hotel remains a space that is open and welcoming to all.”

Parents Sues Epic Games For Making Children Addicted To ‘Fortnite’

In Canada, three parents have filed a class action lawsuit against Epic Games for making ‘Fortnite’ too addictive for their children.

The lawsuit was filed in Quebec Superior Court, alleging that Epic Games purposefully designed the game to be “highly addictive” for children. One parent claimed their child had played 7,700 hours in less than two years, while another claimed their child had played 7,000 hours and became enraged when his parents locked the computer. Justice Slyvain Lussier ruled that the lawsuit was not “manifestly ill-founded,” comparing video game addiction to tobacco addiction. “Tobacco’s harmful effects were not recognized or admitted overnight,” the judge stated.

It was also decided that anyone who developed a video game addiction and experienced symptoms of addiction as a result of playing Fortnite could join the class action lawsuit.Since the lawsuit was filed, over 200 people have come forward about their addiction to ‘Fortnite.’ Epic Games said in a statement to ABC News that the game has parental controls for parents who want to monitory their children’s activity.

“We have industry-leading parental controls that empower parents to supervise their child’s digital experience.”

‘Fortnite’ lawsuit is criticized on social media as people believe parents should take control of their children’s video game time and consumption

News of the lawsuit went viral on Twitter and some users believe it is a parent’s responsibility to monitor their children’s video game time and not place blame on the companies who create them. Additionally, the makers of Fortnite claimed in 2018 that video game addiction is not a real thing despite the World Health Organization listing it under things an individual can possibly be addicted to.

“Video gaming is highly prevalent in modern culture, particularly among young people, and a healthy hobby for most users. However, in recent years there has been increasing global recognition among public health professionals and academics that particular patterns of video gaming may lead to marked impairment in personal, family, social, educational, occupational or other important areas of functioning and psychological distress for a significant minority of players. People who partake in gaming should be alert to the amount of time they spend on gaming activities, particularly when it is to the exclusion of other daily activities, as well as to any changes in their physical or psychological health and social functioning that could be attributed to their pattern of gaming behaviour.”

A Central Park Entrance to be Named for the Exonerated ‘Central Park Five’

An entrance to Central Park will be named the “Gate of the Exonerated” to honor the group of Black and Hispanic teens known as the “Central Park Five” who were wrongfully convicted of beating and raping a White female jogger in the park more than 30 years ago.

Individuals from the group, also known as the “Exonerated Five,” each served several years in prison before being exonerated in 2002.

The New York City Public Design Commission unanimously approved the project during a meeting on Monday.

An entrance to the park on 110th Street will have “Gate of the Exonerated” inscribed on the perimeter wall, Lane Addonizio, vice president for planning at the Central Park Conservancy, said at the meeting.

It will also feature a historical sign with background information about the entrance’s name and a QR code linking to online resources, she said.

The Gate of the Exonerated “speaks to the idea of … exonerated people, wrongfully incarcerated people, people who fall under the radar and, oftentimes, do not have access to the services that are deserved by them once their exoneration has happened,” Sharonne Salaam, the mother of one of the “Exonerated Five” said at the meeting.

“The Gate of the Exonerated symbolizes the resiliency of the Exonerated Five and all those who have been wrongfully convicted, and serves as a lasting reminder of the grave miscarriage of justice that took place more than three decades ago,” New York City Mayor Eric Adams said in a statement.

“Today marks a moment of truth and reconciliation for New York City, and it’s only fitting that the most iconic park in the world tell the world this important story,” the mayor said. “I thank the Harlem community leaders and Community Board 10, whose advocacy made this naming, the first in Central Park’s history since 1862, a reality.”

The unanimous vote is “the capstone of years of work with the Harlem community and Manhattan Community Board 10 to commemorate the Exonerated Five and all those wrongfully convicted of crimes,” a spokesperson for the Central Park Conservancy said in a statement.

“The Central Park Conservancy has worked alongside the Harlem community for more than 40 years, and we are proud to have helped the Gate of the Exonerated come to life in a way that emphasizes how Central Park is meant to be a place for everyone,” the statement said.

An unveiling ceremony will be held next week, the conservancy said.

Breonna Taylor’s Boyfriend, Kenneth Walker, Awarded $2 Million in Settlement With the City of Louisville

Breonna Taylor’s boyfriend, Kenneth Walker, who attempted to protect her when Louisville police stormed their home and killed her, has finally reached a settlement with the city.

Louisville has agreed to pay Walker $2 million to settle lawsuits in federal and state court. Walker and Taylor were in bed when Louisville police officers carried out a no-knock warrant on March 13th, 2020. The officers were executing a drug warrant at the wrong apartment when they broke down the door. Walker, fearing they were being burglarized, fired a shot that hit Sgt. John Mattingly in his leg. Mattingly and two other officers began shooting, striking Taylor multiple times. After being shot, Taylor was not rendered any aid. Instead, she was left to bleed on the floor.

Earlier this year, U.S. Justice Department prosecutors charged three Louisville officers with fabricating the Taylor warrant in an elaborate plot that falsely linked Taylor to a wanted drug dealer. There is no evidence that the 26-year-old had any relationship with the man.

Walker was charged with attempted murder of a police officer soon after, but charges were later dropped as outrage mounted against the city.

As part of the settlement, a portion will go towards establishing a scholarship fund for law school students practicing civil rights law. The Georgetown Law School’s Center for Innovations in Community Safety, which promotes police reform, will also receive part of the funds.

Despite compensation, Walker’s lawyer Steve Romines said the brutal death of Taylor would “haunt” the man for the rest of his life.

This is the second time that the city of Louisville has had to fork over a massive lump sum for their despicable actions that led to Taylor’s murder. In September 2020, they settled a lawsuit with Taylor’s mother, Tamika Palmer, for $12 million.
