Rihanna Lands Her Sixth 'Vogue' Cover!
The singer, actress and Fenty designer fronts the fashion publication's November 2019 issue.
Vogue released its November 2019 cover on Wednesday morning, starring none other than Rihanna. Photographed by Ethan James Green and clothed in a Fenty tulle coat (naturally), the singer, actress and entrepreneur posed for her sixth (!) cover for the fashion publication.
In the accompanying interview with Abby Aguirre, Rihanna discusses her long-awaited upcoming album "R9," which she describes as "reggae-inspired or reggae-infused," her love life ("I'm actually in an exclusive relationship for quite some time, and it's going really well, so I'm happy."); and, of course, her newly founded Paris-based maison with LVMH.
"I'm not the face of my brand, but I am the muse, and my DNA has to run all the way through it," says Rihanna. "I don't want anyone to pull up my website and think, Rihanna would never wear that."
Since its launch in May, Fenty has gone against the grain when it comes to luxury fashion brands. For starters, it's mainly sold through direct-to-consumer retail, though pop-ups have occasionally opened in major cities, like New York City and Paris. The business model also follows a monthly "drop" strategy because, Aguirre writes, "when Rihanna sees something she likes — which at the moment includes a lot of Balenciaga, which is getting on her nerves and giving her designer envy — she wants it now. Not in six months. Rihanna does not want to buy winter coats in August."
Plus, Rihanna takes a stab at "Go Ask Anna," which you can watch in the video above. She grills the Vogue editor-in-chief about her famous bob, the Met Gala and her favorite New York designers. Rihanna answered a few questions of her own, too, touching on her dream wedding dress (in collaboration with John Galliano), her coveted film role (the villain) and her favorite things to do in London, where she's currently based.
The November 2019 issue of Vogue will be available on newsstands in New York City and Los Angeles on Oct. 15, as well as nationwide on Oct. 22 read her full interview, visit Vogue.com.
#RHOA: Porsha Williams And Baby Pilar Jhena Celebrate Healthy Moms And Strong Babies At March Of Dimes Event!
Porsha Williams and baby Pilar Jhena were the guests of honor at the March of Dimes “Healthy Moms, Strong Babies” event this past weekend. The Real Housewives of Atlanta star was brought to tears by the love in the room as well as by the opportunity to share her journey to motherhood with the world as the nonprofit’s ambassador.
“My heart is still so full,” Porsha shared after the weekend event. “I am so incredibly honored to be first National Ambassador for @MarchofDimes,” the RHOA star continued.
“This was meant to be because lately, my heart has been lead in different conversations to share my journey to motherhood … all without knowing I would get an opportunity to spread awareness and share my ‘Unspoken Story’ on a major level! Look at God he will always prepare you for the job and purpose he has for you. I hope to be able to aid in March Of Dimes in their mission of helping mothers through their journeys before, during, and after pregnancy!”
Porsha Williams suffered a miscarriage when trying to expand her family with her then-husband Kordell Stewart. The RHOA star has admitted in several interviews that the experience caused her to be a bit anxious during the beginning stages of her pregnancy with Pilar.
“I’ve had a miscarriage before in my past, which I’ve also been open about because I suffer from fibroids and had to have a myomectomy,” Porsha said during an interview with PEOPLE last year. “So just the fear of, ‘Is the baby going to be okay? Will I make it full term?’ All those questions that you ask if you’ve had a miscarriage before.”
Pilar Jhena was born a healthy baby on March 22, 2019. She is Porsha Williams and Dennis McKinley’s only child. Learn more about the March of Dimes “Healthy Moms, Strong Babies” initiative here!
#Empire Mystery: Where Is Hakeem?
Jussie Smollett’s Jamal is not the only member of Empire‘s Lyon clan MIA from the Fox drama’s final season. Bryshere Y. Gray (aka “Yazz”), who portrays Smollett’s kid brother Hakeem, has been a scarce presence in Season 6. How scarce?
After appearing briefly in the Sept. 24 premiere, Gray has been completely absent from Episodes 2 and 3 — triggering a chorus of “Where’s Hakeem?” on social media. Hakeem’s vanishing act was particularly glaring in last week’s episode when his older brother Andre (Trai Byers) found himself in the throes of a devastating family crisis. Not only was Hakeem not by his sibling’s side, his absence was never even addressed (unlike Jamal, whose relocation to London was clearly established in the opener.)
Reps for Empire and Gray declined to comment on the reason behind Gray’s reduced workload, but a source close to the show tells TVLine that the actor — who continues to be billed as a series regular — is taking time off this season for “personal reasons.”
Meanwhile, Empire showrunner Brett Mahoney maintains in a statement to TVLine that viewers have not seen the last of Cookie and Lucious’ youngest son. What’s more, the EP says that Hakeem’s absence was foreshadowed in the premiere when the character — arguably out of nowhere — decided to pursue an acting career.
“With Hakeem off filming the Lucious Lyon [movie] in Los Angeles, there may be episodes we don’t see him,” Mahoney acknowledges, “but fans should certainly know that he and Yazz remain a big part of the show. Stay tuned.”
#MusicNews: Jacquees Announces New Album Title: ‘King of R&B’!
After delaying his sophomore album, the rising singer has announced more details about the impending release.
Originally titled Round 2, the Atlanta native’s album is now called King of R&B. It will release on November 8 via Cash Money Records. The title was inspired by a video Jacquees posted last year claiming he is the new king of R&B.
The album is expected to include his latest single “Verify” featuring Young Thug and Gunna.
King of R&B will follow Jacquees’ debut album, 4275, which peaked at No. 35 on the Billboard 200. The album included his breakout single “B.E.D.,” which reached No. 69 on the Billboard Hot 100.
#HipHopNews: Ja Rule Announces Numerical New Album!
Ja Rule is getting back to music after making headlines for pretty much everything but rapping in recent years. The former Def Jam artist has announced a new album with a title and release date based on the number 12.
“My new album 12.Twelve.XII will be released December 12th on my new imprint ICONNic sound,” he wrote via Twitter.
12.Twelve.XII will be Ja’s first album since 2012’s Pain Is Love 2. The upcoming LP is being released through his new independent imprint, which shares the same name as the ICONNic music festival he’s been teasing following his involvement in the disastrous Fyre Festival.
Although the failed Fyre Festival has kept Ja’s name in the news for the past two years, he’s grabbed attention more recently due to his longstanding feud with 50 Cent.
Amid Tekashi 6ix9ine’s legal drama, Ja has often criticized 50 for associating with the disgraced rapper. He also slammed his old rival during an appearance on Bravo’s Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen.
“[50’s] a bad father, he’s got like a big square, box head and he looks like his breath stinks,” Ja declared. “We’re sworn enemies forever!”
Kevin Hart is Back At Work After Car Crash!
Kevin Hart is back at it! According to reports, the comedian and actor has returned to work after suffering injuries from a serious car crash last month. He underwent back surgery almost immediately and was released from the hospital following days of treatment. While he reportedly has months of physical therapy ahead of him, it looks like he’s been cleared to go back to work.
Insiders say Hart is working on a promotional campaign for the forthcoming Jumanji: The Next Level sequel, which is set to hit theaters on Dec. 13.
They said that Hart was “in good spirits” and his co-stars were happy he was back. He was able to get around just fine on his own. His co-stars The Rock, Danny DeVito, and Danny Glover were on hand and working reduced schedules that worked better for Hart.
A rep for the actor said,
“He is expected to have a full recovery.”
Let’s continue to pray that Kevin has a strong comeback!
Steven L. Reed Elected As Montgomery’s First Black Mayor!
Montgomery, Alabama is ready for change and it starts with Steven L. Reed. The city just elected its first African-American mayor in nearly its 200-year history. The Morehouse College grad won a runoff election to become the first black mayor of the city founded in 1819. He defeated television station owner David Woods by more than 16,000 votes, in the birthplace of civil rights where 60% of the residents are black. Aye!
"Let the record show tonight, above all ... what we can do when we come together in this city and we build around positivity, around opportunity, and all the things that tie us together versus those things that keep us apart," the new Mayor Reed told supporters at a rally after he won.
He continued: "The vision we have for people far beyond this room. Some of the people who could not be here. But it encompasses and it connects all of them. And that's what we have been saying and that's what we want to make sure we continue tomorrow, and the next day and the next day. Because that is what is going to define this city. And that's what's going to define this election.”
Reed also played football at his HBCU, where he was a member of Omega Psi Phi through the Theta Alpha Chapter. And he's no stranger to making proressive history.
The father of two became the youngest and first black probate judge in Montgomery County in 2012 ― and the first probate judge in the state to issue same-sex marriage licenses in 2015. As for what pushed him to run, he told the Montgomery Advertiser that he had grown dissatisfied with the state of public education and safety, and said he didn’t need to look to anyone but himself to fix the problems.
He's also following in his father's, Joe L. Reed, footsteps as he was was elected to the Montgomery City Council in 1975, among one of four black men elected t the council at that time and they made history as the first black men to do be elected in the city since Reconstruction.
Tyler Perry Says His Atlanta Studio Will Include a Compound for Displaced Women and LGBT Youth!
Tyler Perry has big plans for his new studio complex in Atlanta—and we're not just talking about film projects.
In conjunction with the studio's grand opening last week, the multi-hyphenate sat down with CBS This Morning to discuss how he intends to use the property to assist displaced LGBTQ youth and homeless women.
"I tell you what I’m most excited about next is that pulling this next phase off is building a compound for trafficked women, girls, homeless women, LGBTQ youth who are put out and displaced," said Perry, who has become the first African American to outright own a major studio. "And having a compound that is a beautiful place...where they’re trained in the business and they become self-sufficient, they live in nice apartments, there’s daycare, there’s all these wonderful things that allows them to reenter society and then pay it forward again. So, that's what I hope to do soon."
Perry also pointed out that the studio was also built on a former Confederate army base—a fact that he says further underscores the historic and cultural significance of the complex.
"Think about the poetic justice in that," he said. "The Confederate Army is fighting to keep Negroes enslaved in America, fighting, strategy, planning on this very ground. And now this very ground is owned by me."
Elsewhere in the CBS interview, Perry opened up about feeling "ignored" in Hollywood and being dismissed by critics.
"I get it. My audience and the stories that I tell are African-American stories specific to a certain audience, specific to a certain group of people that I know, that I grew up, and we speak a language," he said. "Hollywood doesn’t necessarily speak the language. A lot of critics don’t speak that language. So, to them, it’s like, 'What is this?"
He continued: "... But I know what I do is important. I know what I do touches millions of people around the world. I know how important every word, every joke, every laugh [does]. I know what that does for the people where I come from and the people that I’m writing for. So, yeah, I get that."

#OOOPS! Gucci Under Fire for Shackle-Like Ankle Bracelet!
Social media users have pointed out that the anklet resembles an electronic monitor and appears to bear gold bullets, which in fact are Gucci Beauty lipsticks, also shown on arm cuffs of a similar design during the spring-summer 2020 runway presentation.
Are shackle-inspired ankle bracelets the next trend? As headlines trumpet a potential Trump impeachment and prison time for stars charged in the Operation Varsity Blues college admissions scandal, Gucci is coming under fire for showing a leather ankle bracelet that some on social media have criticized for resembling an electronic ankle monitor (used as an alternative to incarceration) as part of its spring-summer 2020 presentation in Milan.
Others have pointed out that the anklet appears to bear gold bullets, which in fact are Gucci Beauty lipsticks, also shown on arm cuffs of a similar design during the catwalk show.
“When did it become fashionable to make an ankle monitor a fashion accessory? Asking for a friend,” said one Twitter user.
Another said, “Y’all can’t be serious?!! Y’all really out here making ankle monitors now?!!”
A third user said, “What do you think of Alessandro_Michele new @gucci pointed toe flats with ankle holster to hold your lipsticks??? Some of [sic] said it resembles a prison ankle tag however personally I think it may come in useful…”
The Italian luxury fashion house, helmed by creative director Alessandro Michele, was also criticized for its spring-summer 2020 presentation that kicked off with models wearing straitjackets, not intended to be sold in stores, according to the brand. A statement from Gucci said the concept was to show “blank-styled clothes” as representative of “the most extreme version of a uniform, dictated by society and those who control it.”
In a self-described “peaceful protest,” model Ayesha Tan Jones wrote “mental health is not fashion” on her hands and held them up as she walked the runway. She later posted two lengthy notes on Instagram about how “the stigma around mental health must end,” adding that she had donated her full fee for the show to mental health charities, as had other models.
In February, Gucci apologized for selling a “blackface” sweater with a pull-up turtleneck balaclava and red lips.
The following month, the brand rolled out a Gucci Changemakers program to support diversity and inclusion in fashion, which officially kicked off its initiative in North America this week with a call for applications for a $1.5 million scholarship program and $5 million impact fund for nonprofit organizations.
Lil’ Kim Receives ‘I Am Hip Hop’ Award, Performs Medley At Bet Hip Hop Awards!
The rap icon was honored with the “I Am Hip Hop” Award during the 14th annual ceremony in Atlanta, which aired on the network Tuesday night. Following an introduction from Rick Ross and a video tribute featuring Missy Elliott and Mary J. Blige, the Queen Bee took the stage to accept the award.
With her 5-year-old daughter Royal Reign in the audience, a humbled Kim thanked her family and friends including The Notorious B.I.G. “I don’t know if ya’ll know what it’s like to have an angel following you all the time, but that’s Biggie,” she said. “I’ma always love him, I’ma always ride for him. I don’t play about him. That’s just what it is—Brooklyn. I love you to the heavens, Biggie.”
She acknowledged that she felt some type of way about not being honored by BET in the past, but knew that her time was coming. “Now I’ve come to realize that when you’re the mother and you have set trends and people call you mother…When people honor you and give you the name Queen, you get rewarded differently.”
Following her speech, Lil’ Kim closed out the show with a career-spanning medley of hits starting with her new single “Pray for Me” featuring Musiq Soulchild. Dressed in a sparkly catsuit, she continued with “Lighters Up” before spitting her verse on Mobb Deep’s “Quiet Storm (Remix).” She brought out O.T. Genasis for “Found You” and reunited with Junior M.A.F.I.A., including Lil Cease, for “Player’s Anthem” and “Crush on You (Remix),” capping it off with her explosive verse on Puff Daddy’s “It’s All About the Benjamins.”
On Friday, Lil’ Kim is set to release her long-awaited album 9, her first in more than 14 years. The project features collaborations with Rick Ross, Musiq Soulchild, and Rich the Kid.
Wesley Snipes Speaks Out About ’New Jack City’ Reboot, Says “Some Things Should Be Left Alone”!
In the wake of recent rumors about a “New Jack City” reboot, Wesley Snipes, who starred in the original film as drug king Nino Brown, says he’s not a big fan of the idea.
In a recent interview for his “Dolemite Is My Name” press commitments, Wesley expressed his belief that some things from the past should simply stay in the past.
“I’m not associated with it,” he told Shadow and Act. “I’ve got nothing to do with it at all. I think some things should be left alone.”
Snipes continued to say the original New Jack City “worked at the time under the circumstances, and the story was built around things that are current.” But a reboot, wouldn’t have the same touch as the original.
“I don’t particularly like the idea of recreating the drug culture. For what?” he said. “I don’t know. They actually talked to me about doing it, and I told them no. If I had a dime for every time I’ve said no! It’s a done deal. It’s a wrap.”
Jonathan Sutherland issues response to fan letter!
Shortly after Penn State coach James Franklin gave a passionate commentary regarding the nasty letter sent to one of his players, the target of said letter, Jonathan Sutherland, issued his own response.
Sutherland wrote a detailed comment on his Twitter page.
“Yesterday I received a letter by an alumni from Pennsylvania State University who felt the need to share his degrading opinions in regards to my hair and what it stands for,” he writes. “Although the message was indeed rude, ignorant and judging, I’ve taken no personal offense to it because personally, I must respect you as a person before I respect your opinion. At the end of the day, without an apology, needed, I forgive this individual because I’m nowhere close to being perfect. And I expect God to forgive me for all the wrong I’ve done in my life. Colossians 3:13 states, ‘Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.’
“I appreciate everyone who has reached out to me and showed their support. Let this be one of the many examples to us that in the year 2019, people of different cultures, religions and ethnicities are still being discriminated against, and it needs to stop. Don’t be scared to be different.”
Penn State coach James Franklin devoted significant time in Tuesday’s press conference to the letter that went viral.
“Penn State football and Penn State University in Happy Valley provide the same opportunities to embrace one another 12 Saturdays each fall. PSU football brings people together like very few things on this planet, 110,000 fans of all different backgrounds throughout our region, from all different parts of the state are hugging and high fiving and singing Sweet Caroline together. This is my football.
“This is the game that I love, and most importantly, my players that I love and will defend like sons. Ultimately, this is the definition and embodiment of what ‘WE ARE’ is all about. Lastly, Jonathan Sutherland is one of the most respected players in our program. He’s the ultimate example of what our program is all about. He’s a captain. He’s a dean’s list honor student. He’s confident. He’s articulate. He’s intelligent. He’s thoughtful. He’s caring and he’s committed. He’s got two of the most supportive parents. I would be so blessed if my daughters would marry someone with his character and integrity. Now back to Iowa.”
The strong response from Franklin stems from a nasty letter penned by a fan, David Petersen, Class of 1966. Petersen, a former season ticket holder, told Sutherland that his hair looked "awful" and wished he were more clean-cut like players from years past. He also made a comment about "disgusting" tattoos.
Iggy Azalea Fires Back at T.I. After He Says Working With Her Was the 'Tarnish of His Legacy'
T.I. slammed working with Iggy Azalea after they collaborated in the past, and she’s now responding to his major diss.
“I’m still actively looking for another female rapper who can undo the blunder of Iggy Azalea,” he said during an interview. “That is the tarnish of my legacy as far as [being] a [music] executive is concerned. To me, this is like when Michael Jordan went to play baseball.”
Well, Iggy Azalea saw what T.I. said about her on Twitter, and in a now-deleted tweet, wrote, “Imagine thinking I was his biggest blunder lmaooooooooo. Tip. Sweetie. We have a whole list for you.” She later added, “The tea I could spill on what bullsh*t this is but at the end of the day I think people can see it’s clear he’s salty. He’s a huge misogynist and has never been able to have a conversation with any woman in which he doesn’t speak like a fortune cookie.”
Naomi Osaka picks Japanese citizenship to play at Tokyo 2020!
Two-time Grand Slam winner Naomi Osaka intends to play for host country Japan at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games by choosing Japanese nationality.
Born in Osaka to a Japanese mother and a father from Haiti, the 21-year-old currently holds dual nationality with both Japan and the United States, having grown up in New York.
However she will turn 22 on October 16, the age at which Japanese law obliges dual-nationality citizens to choose one.
Osaka shared with Japan's national broadcasting organisation, NHK, that she has started proceedings to choose Japanese citizenship.
"It's definitely going to be very special. I think there's no other place that I'd rather play my first Olympics. I think that will be one of the most memorable things that ever happens to me." - Naomi Osaka to NHK
The Japan Tennis Association says Osaka will be eligible to represent Japan in the Olympics if she plays for the country in one more national team competition organised by the International Tennis Federation.
Osaka shared exclusively with Olympic Channel that playing at Tokyo 2020 would mean a lot to her as it will be her maiden Olympic experience.
"I'm kind of looking forward to everything like the opening ceremony. It's also a very big honour to even be participating." - Naomi Osaka to Olympic Channel
Osaka made her Fed Cup debut for Japan in 2017 and currently plays on the WTA Tour under the Japanese flag. She added to her maiden US Open title last year by winning the Australia Open in January and recently picked up her third championships of the year by winning the China Open in Beijing.

Sesame Street Addresses Addiction with Muppet Karli Revealing Her Mom Is a Recovering Addict
People!
In a storyline that is part of the Sesame Street in Communities project, Karli the muppet reveals that she is in foster care because her mother battles addiction.
In one clip, Karli — voiced by puppeteer Haley Jenkins — thanks Chris (Chris Knowings) for taking care of her and Elmo while her mom “is at her meeting.”
When Elmo asks what kind of meeting Karli’s mom had to go to, Chris explains that Karli’s mom “has been having a hard time.”
“So in order to help her get better, she goes to a meeting with her group,” Chris says in the video. “They all sit in a circle.”
When Elmo excitedly shares that he likes “singing-circle time in school,” Karli tells him that her mom’s circle is very different.
“They talk about grown up problems. She goes everyday so that she stays healthy. You see, my mom needs help learning to take better care of herself,” Karli says.
Later in the clip, Karli further explains that she attends her own group, which is for children whose parents are dealing with the same problems, and that her mom attends meetings “every day so that she stays healthy.”
In a different clip, Karli candidly addressed her mom’s problem as addiction and introduces viewers to her friend Salia, a real-life girl, whose parents are in recovery.
“My new friend Salia is a very special friend, her mom and dad had the same problem as my mom — addiction. When my mom was having a hard time, I had lots of feelings. I felt like I was the only one, but now I’ve met other kids like Salia, and we can talk about it together,” Karli says.
Salia, 10, then introduces herself and explains she was forced to live with her grandparents after her parents had to “go to a place to help them feel better” as they battled addiction.
“Addiction is a sickness — It makes people feel like they need drugs and alcohol to feel okay,” Salia says. “They were gone for 60 days and it felt like 60 years.”
Viewers then meet her parents as her mom reveals, “We had to leave for 60 days to go get help because we wanted you to have a good life, but first we had to take of ourselves so that we could do that.”
The language — which The Hollywood Reporter reported the creators were very careful with, in order to be accessible to children — helped Elmo to understand. He says: “Well, when Elmo talks about a problem that Elmo is having, it helps Elmo feel better.”
Sesame Workshop’s president of global impact and philanthropy Sherrie Westin said in a statement to THR that “For everything we’ve done — from military families to homelessness — it’s all about how to make children free to talk and to give parents the tools to do just that. They tend to avoid it and it’s what they need more than anything.”
This isn’t the first time that Sesame Street has tackled tough topics to make them more accessible to kids.
Karli, who is in foster care, was introduced in May (which is National Foster Care Month) of this year.
Last year, Sesame Street featured a homeless muppet, the seven-year-old Lily. It has also featured muppets on the autism spectrum, kids who are bullied, and kids who have parents in jail.
If you or someone you know is struggling with addiction, please contact the SAMHSA substance abuse helpline at 1-800-662-HELP.
