#Empire: Taraji P. Henson Creates Foundation to Honor Her Late Father Who Battled Mental Health Issues
In hopes of eradicating the stigma surrounding mental health in African-American communities, the actress just launched the Boris Lawrence Henson Foundation in honor of her late father. The organization will provide scholarships to African-American students majoring in mental health, offer mental health services to youth in urban schools and work to lower the recidivism rates of African-American men and women.
“I named the organization after my father because of his complete and unconditional love for me; his unabashed, unashamed ability to tell the truth, even if it hurt; and his strength to push through his own battles with mental health issues,” Henson said.
The Empire star chronicled her relationship with her father Boris, who died in 2006 at the age of 58 after battling liver cancer, in her 2016 memoir, Around the Way Girl. “My dad fought in the Vietnam War for our country, returned broken, and received little to no physical and emotional support,” she said. “I stand now in his absence, committed to offering support to African Americans who face trauma daily, simply because they are black.”
Henson, who just got engaged in May, is celebrating the foundation’s launch with a fundraising event, Taraji’s Boutique of Hope, on Sept. 22 in Los Angeles. Funds raised for the foundation will help provide resources to increase mental health support in urban schools. BLHF will also partner with school districts help to provide mental health therapists, social workers and counselors to African-American children in need and other nonprofit organizations that offer mental health wellness programs as well.
“BLHF is breaking the silence by speaking out and encouraging others to share their challenges with mental illness and get the help they need,” said Tracie Jenkins, executive director for the foundation. “African-Americans have regarded such communication as a sign of weakness and our vision is to change that perception.”

#HipHopNews: Nicki Minaj Calls Out Meek Mill, 50 Cent, & Dj Khaled On ‘Barbie Dreams’
Nicki Minaj’s new album Queen is out now, but there’s one song in particular song that has everyone talking.
Inspired by The Notorious B.I.G.’s Ready to Die classic “Just Playing (Dreams),” “Barbie Dreams” finds Nicki lightheartedly rapping about sex with her rap peers including Drake, 50 Cent, and her ex Meek Mill.
“Shout out to The Notorious B.I.G., R.I.P.,” Nicki said during her Queens Radio show on Beats 1. “You are still inspiring rappers every day.”
On the tongue-in-cheek track, Nicki references 50 Cent and his show “Power.” “I tried to f**k 50 for a powerful hour, but all that ni**a wanna do is talk ‘Power’ for hours,” raps Nicki.
50 responded with flattery. “South Side stand up the bitch @nickiminaj is really a problem. Out here killing shit,” he tweeted.
Her Young Money brother Drake also inspired a verse. “Drake worth a hundred milli / Always buying me shit / But I don’t know if the pussy wet or if he cryin’ and shit.”
Quavo also makes it into Nicki’s dreams. “Somebody go and make sure Karrueche OK though / I heard she think I’m tryna give the coochie to Quavo.”
She even shouts out her ex Meek Mill. “Meek still be in my DMs, I be havin’ to duck him / I used to pray for times like this / Face ass when I f**k him.”
But she wasn’t as kind to DJ Khaled, rapping about his preference in the bedroom. “Had to cancel DJ Khaled, boy, we ain’t speakin’ / Ain’t no fat ni**a tellin’ me what he ain’t eatin’.”
She goes on to name check Future, 6ix9ine, Lil Uzi Vert, and Young Thug (“Used to fuck with Young Thug / I ain’t addressing this shit / Caught him in my dressing room stealing dresses and shit”).
She also has some fun at Desiigner’s expense. “Shout out Desiigner ’cause he made it out of special ed,” raps Nicki. But the rapper was a good sport about it. “You Crazy,” he wrote along with the laughing and heart emojis.
Despite the controversial lyrics, Nicki made it clear: “Barbie Dreams” is not a diss. “You guys know that that’s not a diss?” she said. “I love them and I said things about people who can take a joke and won’t be emotional about it.”
Beyoncé and Jay-Z Dedicate Detroit Concert to The Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin
Beyoncé and Jay-Z sent their love and well-wishes to Aretha Franklin on Monday by dedicating their Detroit OTR II show to the Queen of Soul.
Queen B made the sweet tribute after performing the opening number at Ford Field.
"This show tonight is dedicated to Aretha Franklin," she said, as seen in Mojo in the Morning's video. "We love you. We thank you for changing all of our lives with your beautiful music."
According to the Detroit Free Press, the couple's opener, DJ Khaled, also played Franklin's hit "Respect," generating roars of applause from the audience.
The concert location was a special one as the "Natural Woman" singer grew up in Detroit and lives in Michigan.
On Monday, reports started spreading that Franklin is "gravely ill." Evrod Cassimy, an anchor for Local 4 in Detroit, broke the news and claimed the 18-time Grammy winner was "resting and surrounded by family and friends." Cassimy then asked people for their prayers on behalf of Franklin and the family.
On Tuesday, Franklin's nephew, Tim Franklin, told People the music icon is at home with her family. He also told the magazine "she's alert, laughing, teasing [and] able to recognize people." While he told the celebrity news outlet Franklin "is sick," the family is "trying to keep her spirits up."
"We believe she'll pull through it, she believes she'll pull through it, and that's the important thing," he told People.
In March, Franklin canceled a few shows after being ordered by doctors to rest. The Grammy winner had announced she would be retiring from concert performances the year before.
Carmelo Anthony Officially Signs with the Houston Rockets
Former NY Knicks basketball star Carmelo Anthony has officially joined the Houston Rockets.
Melo signed a one-year deal for $2.4 million on Monday, the NBA team announced. The deal is for the veteran’s minimum salary, which he’ll receive in addition to a $27.9 million buyout from the Atlanta Hawks.
Anthony was traded earlier this summer from the Oklahoma City Thunder to Atlanta, who bought out his contract and made him a free agent.
Rockets general manager Daryl Morey welcomed Anthony to the team in a tweet.
After officially signing with the Houston Rockets on Monday, Anthony released a heartfelt letter expressing gratitude to the Oklahoma City Thunder organization and its fans despite his time being brief and the results relatively disappointing.
Omarosa Responds to Trump Calling Her a "Dog"
The president referred to Omarosa Manigault Newman — formerly the top African-American in his White House — as "that dog!" Tuesday morning.
Omarosa Manigault Newman told MSNBC's Katy Tur on Tuesday that President Trump "should be afraid of being exposed as the misogynist and racist that he is."
During the latest press stop on her book tour, the former reality TV star responded to the president referring to her as "that dog" earlier in the day.
"I think that it just shows you that if he would say that publicly, what else would he say about me privately?" she said. Claiming, "He has absolutely no respect for women, for African-Americans, as evidence by him instructing the chief of staff to lock me for two hours in the Situation Room, to harass me, to threaten me and say that things could get very ugly for me and that there would be damage to my reputation."
Adding, "He is unfit to be in this office and to serve as the president of the United States."
The war of words between Manigault Newman and Trump escalated Tuesday when the president took to Twitter to refer to his former aide — who was the top African-American in his White House — as "that dog." When tweeting in response to Manigault Newman's press tour for her tell-all memoir Unhinged: An Insider's Account of the Trump White House, officially out Tuesday, Trump has referred to his longtime colleague as "wacky," "deranged" and a "lowlife," but the latest racially charged reference sparked renewed outrage.
"When you give a crazed, crying lowlife a break, and give her a job at the White House, I guess it just didn’t work out. Good work by General Kelly for quickly firing that dog!" Trump tweeted.
Invoking derogatory words and phrases Trump has used about women and minorities in the past, Tur asked Manigault Newman about the president's treatment of women in the White House. Manigault Newman said Trump had nicknames for "everyone," including Tur; Department of Education Secretary Betsy Devos, whom she said Trump would call "Ditzy Devos"; and Chief of Staff John Kelly.
"Because of his small ability to communicate, he would give them these derogatory nicknames and it just wasn't appropriate," Manigault Newman said. "He does treat women differently, I think as evidence by the lack of female appointees in his administration; the lack of high-level senior advisers, women, in his administration and throughout all the different agencies. He treats them different because he believes that they're beneath him."
Manigault Newman generalized Trump's behavior with women by saying, "He would grab women, kiss them, unsolicited, anytime, any day."
Trump's tweet came Tuesday morning as Manigualt Newman released another recording to CBS News, this time showing campaign workers discussing an alleged recording of Trump using the N-word.
Manigault Newman, a former star on Trump's Apprentice, has been on a publicity tour for her book, in which she writes that she has heard that such a tape of Trump making the racial slur while on the set of the NBC reality series exists. On Sunday, she said she listened to one recording after the book closed.
Trump has pushed back against the claim, citing an apparent call from Apprentice producer Mark Burnett as proof that "there are NO TAPES of the Apprentice where I used such a terrible and disgusting word as attributed by Wacky and Deranged Omarosa." Trump has insisted, "I don't have that word in my vocabulary, and never have."
White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders has said the book is "riddled with lies and false accusations." Sanders, in a press briefing that followed the MSNBC appearance, said Trump's "dog" tweet was "not about race" and instead was about "calling out someone's lack of integrity."
Also on Tuesday morning, the Trump campaign planned to file an arbitration action against Manigault Newman, alleging that her book tour and memoir breach a 2016 confidentiality agreement.
"I don't believe that I violated it but I'm going to leave that to the lawyers to sort that out," Manigault Newman told Tur. "It's interesting that he is trying to silence me. What is he trying to hide? What is he afraid of? If he hadn't said anything that was derogatory or demeaning to African-Americans and to women, why would he be going to this extent to shut me down?"
Manigault Newman, who has revealed two other audio recordings from her time at the White House, defended her credibility during the Tuesday appearance. She would not comment on whether or not she has more tapes to release.

Rihanna's Hollywood Hills Home Swarmed By LAPD After Triggered Alarm
Rihanna's Hollywood Hills home was swarmed by the LAPD after her faulty alarm system went off on Monday night (August 13).
According to law enforcement sources close to TMZ, the singer's home alarm went off, prompting multiple units and even an LAPD helicopter to respond to the alert. In a video obtained by the outlet, viewers can see that the neighboring authorities don't take lightly to even the smallest of triggers, particularly because of the history of past intruders at the star's home. While the pop star wasn't in the house at the time, it was concluded that the alarm was triggered by accident.
Back in May, an intruder was arrested at the singer's property after he allegedly broke in and spent the night at the residence. Once he was caught, he reportedly told cops that he was there to have sex with the star, who was not home at the time of the crime, but he didn't intend to do it forcefully. He has since been charged with felony stalking and burglary.
News of Rihanna's triggered alarm occurred just hours after the singer announced that Donald Glover will be performing at her upcoming Diamond Ball in September, with Issa Rae serving as the charity event's annual host. "Issa Rae and Childish Gambino were the dream duo for the fourth Annual Diamond Ball and they’re coming!!! We are honored and grateful to have them help us celebrate the Clara Lionel Foundation this year," Rihanna said in a statement.
Lyric McHenry Dead - Reality Star Dies Hours After Celebrating 26th Birthday
Lyric McHenry, best known for her appearances on the E! reality show EJNYC, has died at the young age of 26.
The reality star was found dead on Tuesday morning (August 14) of a suspected drug overdose. She was found unresponsive on the sidewalk above the Major Deegan Expressway at Undercliff Ave. and Boscobel Place in Highbridge in the Bronx borough of New York City.
A small Ziplock bag of cocaine was found on McHenry on the scene and she was wearing just a pajama top and underwear, according to reports from the Daily Mail and NY Daily News.
“Lyric McHenry, 26, was found sprawled out on the sidewalk above the Major Deegan Expressway at Undercliff Ave. and Boscobel Place in Highbridge at about 5 a.m. McHenry was rushed to Bronx-Lebanon Hospital, where she died. Police are investigating, the matter is ongoing,” authorities said in a statement.
Lyric was reportedly 20 weeks pregnant at the time of her death. She was a producer on the reality show, which was a spinoff of Rich Kids of Beverly Hills and followed EJ Johnson‘s adventures in New York City.
Hours before her death, Lyric celebrated her birthday with friends all around New York City and posted Instagram stories at Frederick Hotel, the SoHo Grand, and Dream Downtown
Orlando Scandrick Signed and Released By Washington Redskins in Less Than 5 Months
Less than five months after the Washington Redskins signed longtime Dallas Cowboys cornerback, Orlando Scandrick, the D.C. team has decided to part ways with the baller.
Back in March, Scandrick inked a two-year, $10 million deal – plus a $1 million signing bonus – with the Redskins, just days after the team’s division rivals released the nine-year vet.
But now, just weeks ahead of the 2018-19 NFL season, the Redskins have released the baller, as the team molds younger players for the position.
On the bright side though, Scandrick still has a chance to sign with another team, in fact, according to Ian Rapoport, he is already on his way to Kansas City to talk business with the Chiefs. In addition to that, Scandrick will still walk away from the deal with $1 million, from the signing bonus, which was the only guaranteed money in the contract.
Where should Scandrick play next?
‘Southern Charm’s Thomas Ravenel Exits Show Following Sexual Misconduct Allegations – Report
Southern Charm star Thomas Ravenel says he has left the Bravo reality series, according to E!. Ravenel’s reported departure comes three months after the show’s production company and Bravo said they were investigating Ravenel following allegations of sexual misconduct made against him.
“I’m not doing the show anymore,” Ravenel wrote on his private Twitter page Tuesday, E! reports. “In the contract they have the right to fictionalize your story. They took advantage of me. I decided I’ve got too much to lose and informed them I’m not coming back.” When reached by Deadline, Bravo would not comment.
Ravenel also was not present for the Southern Charm season 5 reunion, which taped in June and aired last month, due to the investigation into the claims against him, according to E!
Real estate agent Ashley Perkins posted complaints against Ravenel online and told People magazine that her mother, Debbie Holloway Perkins, met Ravenel on dating app Tinder in October 2015, and that Ravenel had sexually assaulted her.
At the time, the production company and Bravo indicated they were looking into the charges.
“Haymaker, the production company for Southern Charm, and Bravo take allegations like these very seriously,” Bravo said in a statement to People. “Haymaker is conducting an investigation, and once all the information is gathered and carefully reviewed, appropriate action will be taken.”
Southern Charm chronicles the personal and professional lives of seven socialites who reside in Charleston, South Carolina. In addition to Ravenel, the cast includes Whitney Sudler-Smith, Cameran Eubanks, Shep Rose, Craig Conover,
Kathryn Calhoun Dennis, Landon Clements, Austen Kroll, Chelsea Meissner, Naomie Olindo and Ashley Jacobs.
