Serena Williams named 2018 GQ Woman of the Year!
Serena Williams didn’t win any of tennis’ four majors for the first time in years, but her remarkable return to the court after giving birth to her first child became one of the best sports stories of 2018. In honor of her accomplishments, GQ Magazine named the tennis star as its Woman of the Year as part of its annual series.
Williams, 37, had a health scare following the birth of her first child in 2017 that led to her struggling on the court early this year. She overcame those initial issues to make the finals of Wimbledon and the US Open, an incredible feat given what she had been through.
Controversy followed Williams at the US Open, however, with an incident involving umpire Carlos Ramos that ended up dominating sports talk shows in the following days. After being penalized by Ramos in the final against Naomi Osaka, Williams called Ramos a “thief” on the court and later accused him of sexism during her post-match news conference.
Williams’ cover has also elicited some debate on social media over whether the use of quotation marks on the word “woman” is disrespectful. A research manager for GQ pointed out that the typography was created by Virgil Abloh in the same style as previous art he designed for Williams’ US Open apparel.
Actors Michael B. Jordan, Jonah Hill and Henry Golding were named GQ’s Men of the Year alongside Williams receiving her honor.

Waka Flocka is done with beef. Flockavelli has declared he’s no longer harboring any ill will towards others, including his mentor-turned-rival Gucci Mane.
In a video posted on Instagram, Waka spoke about a potential reunion with Gucci and expressed his desire to have a conversation with his former collaborator. He appeared to put the onus on Guwop though, telling the prolific rapper to call him.
“We was young niggas, man, with dreams and we really succeeded but this game changed us,” Waka said. “We finna take this shit back. From the big homie, I’m telling y’all first. Aye Gucci, nigga let’s sit the fuck down. All that playing over. You know how to get me, big dog. You call me, nobody else.”
Waka and Gucci have been at odds for years. In 2017, Waka addressed their feud during an interview on BBC Radio 1Xtra.
“I haven’t been cool with Gucci since my best friend got killed,” he said. “That’s 2012. You dig what I’m saying? Gucci know how I feel about him. It was a lot of rappers in the studio when me and Gucci was going at it. And I made that baby sit down … If you wanna play tough and act like you macho and you the big dog and you this, that, and the third, cool. But the streets gonna wipe your nose every time.”
Issues between the two publicly surfaced in 2013 when Gucci announced he dropped Waka from 1017 Brick Squad Records via Twitter. Prior to the dispute, the trap rappers were frequent collaborators. As a duo, they released an album titled Ferrari Boyz in 2011.
CNN Sues Trump Administration On First Amendment Grounds Over Jim Acosta Press Ban
CNN has taken the Trump Administration to court on First Amendment grounds after Donald Trump revoked Jim Acosta’s from press access.
The relationship between Trump and CNN has become more frayed after the White House released doctored videos of Acosta blocking a White House aide from forcibly taking the microphone from him during a press conference. According to CNN, Floyd Abrams, a constitutional law expert who has appeared frequently before the Supreme Court, told CNN’s Brian Stelter on “Reliable Sources” Sunday that CNN has a case.
“I think it’s a really strong lawsuit,” Abrams said. “I can understand CNN being reluctant to sue because the president keeps saying CNN is the enemy of me, and CNN might have reluctance to have a lawsuit titled ‘CNN vs. Donald Trump.’ That said, yes, I think they should sue,” Abrams said.
Acosta was forced to turn in his Secret Service “hard pass” last week. The pass allows press to enter and exit the White House through a quicker process. “This is going to happen again,” he said. “It’s likely to happen again. So whether it’s CNN suing or the next company suing, someone is going to have to bring a lawsuit. And whoever does is going to win unless there’s some sort of reason.”
Former ABC White House reporter Sam Donaldson called the Acosta’s ban “wrong and unfair.” CNN released a statement in the wake of the filing, saying, “We have asked this court for an immediate restraining order requiring the pass be returned to Jim, and will seek permanent relief as part of this process.”

Idris Elba has long been rumoured as a contender to become the next James Bond, but he has already been made into an action figure — sort of.
A new doll supposedly based on the Luther actor, who was recently named People magazine’s sexiest man alive, has been ridiculed online for looking nothing like him.
And to make matters worse, the bald-headed figurine with intensely drawn features and dressed in a three-piece suit is being sold 1,102.26 USD.
Emperis, the British manufacturer behind the dolls, says only two remain unsold, but fans of the Wire and Thor star were not impressed with the likeness.
One Twitter user posited that the doll was perhaps a ‘discount version’ of a better Idris Elba doll called ‘Is This Elba?’
Another said the doll, with its sinewy build and furrowed brow looked more like American actor Romany Malco.
Others just said the makers needed to be fired and posted GIFs of Elba shaking his head in character as Baltimore kingpin Stringer Bell.
Emperis has made models of icons such as Cher and Queen’s Freddie Mercury in the past and claims to make the ‘only handcrafted ball joined doll that is not only designed but also made in England.

Amazon Announces It Will Split New Headquarters Between NYC, Virginia

Amazon has announced it will split its new headquarters, known as HQ2, between Long Island City in Queens and Crystal City, Virginia
The e-commerce behemoth has announced it will be splitting its new East Coast bases between Long Island City, Queens, and Crystal City in northern Virginia. The move had been expected since The Wall Street Journal and The New York Times reported last week the company would be splitting the new headquarters, known as HQ2, between the two cities.
Amazon said it will invest $5 billion and create more than 50,000 jobs across the two new headquarters locations, with more than 25,000 employees each (and the potential to expand to 40,000) in Queens and Arlington by 2033. New York state is offering incentives of up to $1.7 billion if Amazon hits the 40,000 mark, which it would have until 2034 to achieve.
Hiring at both headquarters will begin in 2019. Starting in 2020, Amazon will have job fairs and resume workshops for three years to promote employment to NYCHA residents.
"We are excited to build new headquarters in New York City and Northern Virginia,” Jeff Bezos, founder and CEO of Amazon, said in a statement. “These two locations will allow us to attract world-class talent that will help us to continue inventing for customers for years to come. The team did a great job selecting these sites, and we look forward to becoming an even bigger part of these communities."
The Long Island City location will include 4 million square feet of energy-efficient office space with the opportunity to expand to 8 million feet. There is an estimated incremental tax revenue of more than $10 billion over the next two decades as a result of the investment and job creation, Amazon says.
The company will also set space aside for a "tech startup incubator" and donate space for a new public elementary school or middle school in the area. Also on the agenda -- new public green spaces.
Both Gov. Cuomo and Mayor de Blasio lauded the selection in separate statements, with the governor saying, "We can proudly say that we have attracted one of the largest, most competitive economic development investments in U.S. history."
"New Yorkers will get tens of thousands of new, good-paying jobs, and Amazon will get the best talent anywhere in the world," said de Blasio. "We’re going to use this opportunity to open up good careers in tech to thousands of people looking for their foothold in the new economy, including those in City colleges and public housing."
Amazon also announced it picked Nashville, Tennessee, for a new Center of Excellence for its operations business, which is responsible for customer fulfillment, transportation, supply chain and other components. That center will create more than 5,000 jobs, Amazon said.
The company announced last year it was looking to open a second headquarters somewhere in North America, bringing with it as many as 50,000 new jobs. Several state and local governments threw their hats in the ring, offering Amazon millions in tax incentives if they opened their new headquarters in their cities.
Landing Amazon is expected to cement Long Island City's transformation from a faded manufacturing zone to a vibrant, of-the-moment enclave of waterfront skyscrapers, modernized warehouses and artsy-tech ambience across the East River from midtown Manhattan.
"I joke that we're experiencing explosive growth 30 years in the making," says Elizabeth Lusskin, president of the Long Island City Partnership, a neighborhood development group.
Resident Sergio Palumbo enthused, "The fact that more people will be coming here, more businesses -- it'll be a great influx for years to come, too."
‘Game Of Thrones’: HBO Confirms April Premiere For Season 8
It’s official. The anticipated eighth and final season of Game of Thrones will launch in April. HBO released a promotional video Tuesday morning with no specific date, but official word that the series will return for its final go-round in April 2019. The retrospective video features recycled footage with the most iconic scenes from the series so far.
An April premiere is not a big surprise, since Season 1-Season 6 launched in April or late March; Season 7 premiered in July 2017. But until today, the only official time frame for the debut came from HBO programming president Casey Bloys, who said the series would return in the first half of 2019. Star Maisie Williams was more specific, saying in an interview with the UK’s Metro in January that the series was eyeing an April 2019 premiere.

Kim Kardahsian and Kanye West‘s neighbors in their Hidden Hills neighborhood in California are reportedly very happy with the couple.
The A-list couple’s house, which was in the mandatory evacuation zone, is at the end of a cul-de-sac and borders a field. If their house caught fire, their neighbors believed that “it would start a domino effect on the whole neighborhood,” TMZ reports.
Well, Kim and Kanye hired private firefighters to stave off the fire from reaching their home. Apparently, “the team was armed with hoses, and also tirelessly dug ditches to create a fire break.”
The fires did not damage their homes or the neighbors’ homes, and the site is reporting that they spoke to some of the neighbors who are thanking the couple!

Bruno Mars Is Donating 24K Thanksgiving Meals to Hawaii
Bruno Mars closed out his 24K Magic World Tour at Aloha Stadium in Honolulu on Sunday.
The Hawaiian-born singer also donated enough money to provide 24,000 Thanksgiving meals to residents of his native land. According to the Associated Press, Mars provided funds for the Salvation Army-Hawaiian & Pacific Islands Division’s 48th annual Thanksgiving Dinner meal program.
Major Jeff Martin, the divisional leader of the charitable organization, was elated about the singer’s generosity.
“We are humbled and honored by this generous donation from Hawaii’s own Bruno Mars,” Martin said. “Bruno is a shining example of how people in Hawaii step forward and take care of one another and we are grateful to him for his aloha [compassion] and kokua [help].”
Mars played his third consecutive night at the 50,000-seat arena. Before performing the last shows of his 200-date tour, he shared his full-circle journey through a childhood photo of himself singing in a Hawaii shirt.
“Let’s have a good time tonight Hawaii!,” Mars captioned the Instagram post. “Most importantly, let’s show love and aloha to everyone driving down and attending the concert. I’ve missed you all and I can’t wait to perform and sing on the island I call home.”
The 24K Magic World Tour began in March 2017 in Belgium and supported Mars’ multiplatinum 24K Magic, which won six Grammy Awards earlier this year, including song, album and record of the year.
In a 2016 interview on 60 Minutes, the Grammy Award winner discussed how his hard times growing up in Hawaii shaped his music.
Despite sleeping in a place without a bathroom or had only one bed for the family, Mars told Lara Logan, “We had each other, and it never felt like it was the end of the world.”
He continued, “Maybe that’s why I have this mentality when it comes to the music. Because I know I’m going to figure it out, just give me some time.”
Now that Mars has figured out his musical signature, gained success and wealth, he helps those who need it most.
In August 2017, the musician donated $1 million to help combat the Flint, Michigan water crisis.
The Salvation Army’s Hawaiian and Pacific Islands Division program feeds more than 2,000 people each year at the Neal S. Blaisdell Center Exhibition Hall during the Thanksgiving season. With Mars’ sizeable donation, the effort will extend to homebound residents across the islands.
This year’s luncheon will take place on Nov. 22.
Kevin Hart Producing Family-Friendly Comedy for ABC
Kevin Hart is expanding his portfolio into television production. The stand-up comedian and actor is set to co-produce a new family-friendly comedy, Don’t Call It a Comeback, for ABC.
The Night School star will be working alongside producer and creator Courtney Lilly, known for his work on black-ish. The series will focus on a 40-something-year-old divorced father who was once a member of a one-hit-wonder rap group. The out-of-touch dad now uses his hip-hop knowledge to get his “swagger” back as a parent, according to Variety. Hart will executive produce through his HartBeat Productions alongside business partner John Cheng.
“Courtney’s idea is funny, relatable and most importantly has so much heart—all the elements that belong in a HartBeat production,” Hart said. “I’m so excited to work with him and everybody at ABC.”
This announcement comes one month after Hart committed to creating several kid-friendly shows for Nickelodeon. The first-look deal with Nick is also under his HartBeat Productions banner. Under the deal, the Philadelphia comic will develop and produce live-action scripted kids content for the network.

Newly divorced Mel B went to take her children to school on Friday morning only to find that one of her car’s tires had been slashed. She shared a photo of the damage with her 1.1 million Instagram followers, hinting that she believed it was a deliberate act and alluding that a crime had been committed by her ex-husband.
Some fans were quick to point out that perhaps the damage to the tire was not the result of a malicious act. A commenter wrote, “That’s not a slash, that’s curb rash or pothole blowout. Your sidewall is worn. Looks like you were riding on your sidewall for a while. I bet there is a lot of rubber bits in the tire now.” Another commenter agreed but also cautioned the singer, “You might have hit a curb or something else. Your rim is damaged also, but at the same time be careful and watch out. Your too cute to be hurt by dummies.”
After 10 years of marriage, the Spice Girl filed for divorce from film producer Stephen Belafonte last March.
