Chris Rock Covers ESSENCE’s March Hollywood Issue
Chris Rock – this year’s Oscars host is Essence Magazine’s March cover star and it’s the Comedian’s very first time gracing the mag’s front page. In the interview, conducted before the #OscarsSoWhite Diversity issue reached fever levels, Rock contemplates a diversity controversy and talks fatherhood after divorce as well as fame after reaching the peak.
“I was with Seinfeld the other day. We were like, what we got? Five years? Six years? Literally. That’s not saying making a living. It’s saying, how much longer do you have where people are going to care what you say?…” — Chris Rock, ESSENCE
Essence will continue to change the conversation in Hollywood with its 9th Annual ‘Black Women In Hollywood Awards Luncheon,’ this year honoring Tracee Ellis Ross, Debbie Allen and Entertainment Lawyer Nina Shaw.
The March Issue hits newsstands on February 12th. For more on this month’s issue, visit Essence.com.
BREAKING NEWS! Chris Christie To Drop Out of Presidential Race!
Republican Governor of New Jersey Chris Christie will drop out of the presidential race, reports ABC News.
Despite a strategy that heavily focused money and resources on New Hampshire, Christie ended up in a disappointing sixth place Tuesday. Christie announced shortly after Tuesday’s loss that he was retreating to New Jersey and would be reevaluating his campaign.
Another major hurdle to Christie’s prospects was that he was very unlikely to make Saturday’s CBS debate. Polling at seventh place nationwide and sixth in the next primary state of South Carolina, Christie faced an uphill battle with no clear path to victory.
ABC News was first to report the coming suspension. But there is some confusion among other networks; Fox Business at first confirmed that report, but appeared to walk it back later on Twitter.
UPDATE (1:34 PM EST): CBS has joined the ranks of those reporting Christie will drop out. “The New Jersey governor made the decision after a conference call with major donors, concluding that he did not have the financial support to continue his campaign,” CBS reports.
GOOD RIDDANCE!
NEW HAMPSHIRE PRIMARY! Bernie Sanders and Donald Trump win!
Hillary Concedes and she says SHE STILL LOVES NEW HAMPSHIRE!
Republican Donald Trump and Democrat Bernie Sanders cruised to early victories in the New Hampshire primary on Tuesday, and the drama quickly shifted to the intense battle for second place.
Ohio Gov. John Kasich, Florida Sen. Marco Rubio and former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush are battling to finish in second place in a fierce battle to assume the leadership of the GOP establishment. The fight threatens to split the establishment vote and fuel the momentum of Trump and Ted Cruz, who won the Iowa GOP caucuses, as the campaign heads into delegate-rich Southern states where both are running strong campaigns.
Trump, a brash billionaire reality TV star who has never run for office, and Sanders, a self-declared democratic socialist, were seen as long-shot outsiders when they launched their campaigns. Their victories reflect deep bipartisan discontent at professional politicians and suggest that both the Democratic and Republican races will now be long struggles that could stretch well into the spring.
Sanders' victory was a blow for Hillary Clinton, who won New Hampshire in 2008. Speaking from her campaign headquarters, Clinton congratulated Sanders and said, "I still love New Hampshire and I always will."
"Here's what we're going to do," she said. "Now we take this campaign to the entire country."
A source within the Sanders campaign told CNN's Mark Preston that the victory meant that the Vermont senator's operation would transition into a national effort targeting multiple states beyond the next two contests in South Carolina and Nevada.
Sanders intends to draw sharp differences with Clinton on the Trans-Pacific Partnership deal and other trade issues which could play into the campaign.

#RHOA: Phaedra Parks Walks the Walk! Visits Flint to Assist Water Crisis – Plus, Who Else With A ‘Housewife’ Connection Also Helped Out?
When Phaedra Parks said she wanted to get involved more in politics and make a difference in the African American community – she meant it! We recently saw Phaedra march on Washington, meet with personal heroes for advice and start a her own program. Her most recent endeavor? Visiting the Flint, MI area to address and assist in the water crisis.
NBC is reporting that Phaedra Parks met with other activists and locals to express their outrage over the recent water crisis, which has left citizens without drinkable water and many affected by the high levels of lead. Activists were pushing for a resolution and emphasizing that there is no time to waste!
Says Phaedra, “Everybody knows me as a real housewife but outside that I’m a lawyer and a real black woman who supports real people.”
The local government has received a ton of backlash for their handling of the water crisis along with the pace that they are moving and red flags that have risen when researching the timeline of events.
Also there to lend their support? A RHOP ex-husband and ex-boyfriend!
Gizelle’s ex-husband, pastor Jamal Bryant was there and commented “This is in fact crimes against humanity.”
Katie’s ex-boyfriend (and mega-mogul) Russell Simmons was also on hand and voiced support from other stars saying “I call Will Smith. He says there’s a truckload of water I sent just now. I call Puff, a million dollars of water I just sent. I call The Game, sent $500,000.”
Russell also voiced his outrage against government action saying “I don’t know why the rappers got to get here before Obama but the rappers is here. I’m in it for the long run. I will be back and I’m going to send more water.”
With all the scandals surrounding celebs it’s nice to see them out using their high profiles for some good! The Flint water crisis is truly a tragedy; I’m glad that those in the public eye and with connections to the media are getting involved.
Can you see Phaedra continuing a more political path? What are your thoughts?
Jussie Smollett & Jurnee Smollett Bell FIST PUMP For Black Power In New Campaign
“Empire” breakout star Jussie Smollett and his sister Jurnee Smollett Bell, who’s gearing up to star in a new series “Underground,” have joined forces for the Creators of Color movement, just in time for Black History Month.
The new platform will highlight diversity in the creative sphere through images, visuals essays and insightful interviews to tell our stories and to make our talents more visible.
We’re SO here for black empowerment!
In the compelling pictorial, Jussie and Jurnee are dressed in all black while raising their black-gloved fists in the black power salute. Their photo is the first installment of an ongoing portrait series shot for Creators of Color. The campaign will be highlighting artists both in front of and behind the camera who inspire us to push the limits of creativity everyday.
Jussie shared the image on his Instagram with the caption, “Happy Monday. #StayWoke @l10_lax for @CreatorsOfColor portrait session -- a new platform highlighting diversity in the creative sphere through images, visual essays and insightful interviews. #creatorsofcolor”
We’re sure folks will have something to say about this, just as they did when Beyonce and her dancers held up the black power salute during her halftime performance at Super Bowl 50. If you haven't noticed, tons of think pieces both supporting and condemning Beyonce's performance have taken over the net since Sunday.
We’re certainly here for empowerment and anything else that inspires our community to be great. Hate on haters….

Mya hopes you’re ready to tune into Smoove Jones radio this Valentine’s Day as she plays a radio host on her new song “Afta Glow Show.”
Her newest independent album, Smoove Jones will be released on February 14, the 18th anniversary of her very first single “It’s All About Me,” which came out on Valentine’s Day 1998. “Afta Glow Show” serves as the outro for what sounds like a project made for lovers that will be super sexy and filled with slow-jams.
On the new track, Mya sets the mood singing, “I don’t know what’s just come over me / But suddenly, I’ve got the urge to feel your body soaking wet right next to me.”
Smoove Jones has already been preceded by two buzz singles “Team You” and “Welcome to My World,” and is entirely produced by Mya herself. This will be the singer’s twelfth project, and eighth independent release.

Uh Oh? It’s Beyonce VS The COPS!
Fox News attacks Beyonce’s Super Bowl salute to Black Lives Matter: It’s not ‘wholesome’ or ‘decent’
The hosts of Fox & Friends and former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani accused Beyonce of not providing “wholesome” entertainment at Sunday’s Super Bowl 50 because her performance was a tribute to Black Lives Matter and the Black Panthers.
“I couldn’t really make out what Beyonce was saying,” Fox News host Brian Kilmeade admitted on Monday. “But at the end, we find out Beyonce dressed up in a tribute to the Black Panthers, went to a Malcolm X formation. And the song, the lyrics, which I couldn’t make out a syllable, were basically telling cops to stop shooting blacks!”
In a later segment, co-host Anna Kooiman told Giuliani that Beyonce saluted the Black Lives Matter movement even though she had gotten a police escort for the game.
“I think it was outrageous,” Giuliani opined. “The halftime show I thought was ridiculous anyway, I don’t know what the heck it was. A bunch of people like bouncing around and doing strange things. I actually don’t even know why we have this.”
“I thought it was really outrageous that she used it as a platform to attack police officers, who are the people who protect her,” he continued. “What we should be doing in the African-American community and all communities is build up respect for police officers.”
After recalling Janet Jackson’s so-called “wardrobe malfunction” at a prior Super Bowl, Kilmeade argued that the NFL had a responsibility to censor Beyonce’s performance.
“Didn’t they go and review this and say, wait a second?” he complained.
“This is a political position and she’s probably going to take advantage of it,” Giuliani agreed. “You’re talking to middle America when you have the Super Bowl. So if you’re going to have entertainment, let’s have decent, wholesome entertainment. And not use it as a platform to attack the people who put their lives at risk just to save us.”
LOL!!! IN THE MEANTIME!!!!! Beyonce Gave Red Lobster Sales A Boost, Up 33%
Beyonce’s new song, “Formation,” gives Red Lobster a healthy shout out. Not surprisingly, the restaurant chain’s sales got a boost ever since she dropped the new tune and video on Saturday (Feb. 6).
Reports CNN Money:
The chain said sales were up 33% on Sunday over the previous year, thanks to a lyric in the new track that suggests using Red Lobster’s food as a reward for sex.
Red Lobster spokesperson Erica Ettori said the brand was mentioned on Twitter 42,000 times in a single hour and trended for the first time in history.
Beyoncé’s overtly political new song, called “Formation,” addresses police brutality, Hurricane Katrina and black culture in America. The former Destiny’s Child star also touches on her personal wealth and influence, saying “I might just be a black Bill Gates in the making.”
“When he f*ck me good I take his ass to Red Lobster, cause I slay,” is the line referenced.
Cheddar Bay Biscuits for the win. Red Lobster’s tweet in response to the shout out (see below), not so much.
Does this mean the #BoycottBeyonce crowd won’t be supporting Red Lobster, too?

J.Lo’s ‘Shades of Blue’ Scores Second Season
*NBC is extending its business with Jennifer Lopez. The Peacock announced Friday that it has renewed her freshman series “Shades of Blue” for a second season, which will coincide with season 2 of her three-year residency in Las Vegas.
Her current third job as a judge on “American Idol,” will not be a factor next year, as this current season is its last. Last summer, J.Lo had to work out a way to film “Shades” episodes and “Idol” auditions at the same time.
“We knew that I would have to start doing the auditions while we were filming the show, so I would go on weekends to film ‘Idol,’” Lopez told the TCA at its Winter Press Tour last month. “It was challenging. It was hard, but we got through it, and I just tried to take it day by day.”
NBC entertainment president Jennifer Salke acknowledged her job situation in announcing the renewal of “Shades.” “We want to thank Jennifer, who is the hardest-working woman we know, for her incredible efforts as both the star and producer of this show, as well as well as our other amazing producers and cast for all their tireless work in creating one of the most compelling dramas on television today,” she said. “We’re so excited to find out where this story will lead and have them raise the stakes even higher in what we know will be a fantastic second season.”
The series, featuring J.Lo as a semi-crooked cop and single mom forced by the FBI to rat on her crooked squad to avoid prison (which would orphan her teen daughter), averages 11.2 million viewers in its 10 p.m. Thursday time slot. Her partner, a rookie African American cop played by Dayo Okeniyi, grapples with his accidental shooting of an unarmed black man, and his squad’s insistence on covering it up.
This week, Lopez will enter the live portion of “American Idol’s” final season, which follows the Jan. 20 launch of her Vegas residency, All I Have.
Ciara Sues Future For 15 Million: He’s trying to ruin my career!
According to our friends over at theJasmineBRAND.com Ciara is livid with her ex-fiance & baby daddy Future for spreading lies about her being a bad mother to the public and she has slapped him with a lawsuit –asking the judge to order him to refrain from negatively speaking about her and stop trying to ruin her career, along with demanding 15 million dollars in damages from the rapper.
Ciara filed suit against Future in Georgia Court on January 21st accusing him of defamation, slander and libel.
The singer says that she is bringing this lawsuit due to several false and defamatory statements made by the rapper in the press over the past year about her, all involving their son Future.
Ciara says that Future has – over the past year – published numerous false and defamtory statements regarding her which contain several misrepresentations regarding her conduct and character.
She says Future knew the statements were false and didn’t care about the consequences she would suffer as a result.
The singer accuses her ex-fiance of lying about her publicly to increase interest and publicity for his upcoming musical endeavors, namely the release of his upcoming album and tour. Ciara blasts Future saying he purposefully published lies about her on his Twitter account, social media and other interviews to destroy her reputation as a good mother, to diminish her brand and to impair her professional career in the entertainment industry.
The suit adds that Ciara respects and recognizes Future’s right to free speech under the first amendment of the Constitution. However, he doesn’t have free reign to say whatever he wants knowing what he is speaking is untrue.
Ciara informs the court she is a well-known, successful, recording aritst, songwriter, producer, performer and entertainer along with actress and has a huge fan base around the world. The singer also describes herself as a pillar of her community and extremely active with community service and philanthropy and she says she’s known as a great mother.
The suit explains that the parties were in a highly publicized romantic relationship given their celebrity status. The two gave birth to their son in 2014 but their relationship ended around September 2014 after the birth of Future.
Ciara says after numerous attempts to arrange custody, child support and visitation she had to file a claim against him in another state for support.
She also brings up her boyfriend NFL star Russell Wilson by adding in her complaint,
Marshawn Lynch retires after nine seasons
NFL fans were thrown for a loop when Marshawn Lynch upstaged Peyton Manning.
In typical taciturn Lynch style, he simply tweeted a peace emoji with a picture of his cleats suspended from a telephone wire, suggesting he's hanging them up for good.
Although Lynch offered no official announcement, Seahawks owner Paul Allen and Beast Mode's agent Doug Hendrickson both offered gratitude to the running back on Twitter on Monday.
The news comes as no surprise. Embroiled in contract squabbles, Lynch has weighed retirement in each of the past two offseasons.
Seahawks general manager John Schneider acknowledged two weeks ago that Lynch was leaning toward calling it a career after a disappointing, injury-ravaged season in which he was outplayed by impressive rookie Thomas Rawls.
It was just a year ago that Lynch was drawing raves as the best running back in football after leading the league in rushing touchdowns for two consecutive seasons.
The driving force on one of the best rushing attacks of the 21st century, Lynch was also the tone-setter for the most successful era in franchise history.
The Seahawks have long been blessed with dynamic running backs, from Curt Warner in the 1980s, through Chris Warren and Ricky Watters in the 1990s to Shaun Alexander last decade. Even if Alexander's Seattle peak lasted longer, Lynch offered more memorable moments, highlighted by his famous "Beast Quake" breakthrough in a playoff upset over the Saints.
As a colorful character and the most consistently productive postseason power back of his generation, Lynch will present an interesting Hall of Fame case despite his relatively short career.

Oh? The Weeknd & Girlfriend Bella Have A Fight At Dinner?!
The Weeknd and girlfriend Bella Hadid. Before the "Earned It" singer hits the Oscars in a couple weeks as a Best Song nominee, it looks like he has some drama on his hands.
When pics surfaced of Weeknd and Bella leaving dinner 5 minutes after they arrived....sources said they got into a huge argument and it got ugly. From the look on Bella's face above, it's a pretty believable story.
It'll be interesting to see who is date is when the Oscars red carpet rolls around, but for now, he just hit up the Academy Award Nominee luncheon in Beverly Hills.
Khloe Kardashian Breaks Up With James Harden
They started dating last spring, but it seems the romance between Khloe Kardashian and James Harden just wasn’t meant to be.
The “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” star and her handsome beau have long been rumored to be having problems, especially considering that she’s been spending so much time with estranged husband Lamar Odom.
Insiders say that Kardashian’s undying devotion to Odom was a key factor in the split, and over the weekend Khloe and Lamar were spotted on a hike with Kim Kardashian.
