#RHoA! Demetria McKinney Talks Phaedra Parks Feud and “Infamous” Reality Stars
Demetria McKinney’s transition from actress to reality star wasn’t as easy as she made it look.
Demetria, who honed her craft on popular shows like House of Payne before joining the cast of Real Housewives of Atlanta, says she initially had some serious misgivings about adding a reality TV credit to her resume.
In a new interview with Chicago Now, Demetria reveals her true feelings about RHoA and why she was skeptical about joining the cast.

“I watched the way people got onto those shows and kind of felt like they were going to be famous and ended up infamous. It was never good. It was a read, it was a shady moment, it was a flop, it was a failure. Whatever it was, it damaged A. their brand, and B. their relationships and I didn’t really want to play into that at all,” says Demetria, who explains she ended up deciding to join the cast when she realized that the show could be a great way to introduce her music to a new audience.

“I went into it with heavy prayer and tunnel vision. If you don’t have tunnel vision to get to the end of that tunnel — the light at the end of that tunnel — you get caught up in the shade, the mischief, the extra seasons,” she says.
While Demetria dodged a fair amount of the Season 7 drama, she says she made a calculated move to avoid confrontation, even when Phaedra Parks seemed to be gunning for her. “You know, you get caught into that hype, and I knew that I wanted to use the vehicle by letting them utilize me, but I had to be pretty smart about it,” she explains. “That’s why I made sure I kept my cool in the midst of the shade thrown — ‘did you really ever do crack?’”

The show may have had its ups and downs for the highly private star, but Demetria is glad she took the chance. “I don’t regret it,” she concludes.

SHADE, OR NAH? Did ‘Star’ Magazine Go Too Far With Kardashian Black Widow Cover
Star magazine’s latest cover shows the Karashian sisters, including their mother, Kris Jenner, with the title: “Black Widows How The Kardashians Destroyed Their Men.” But did the publication go to far?
Just one week after Khloe Kardashian’s husband, Lamar Odom was found unresponsive at a Nevada brothel, Star published a story pointing the finger at the famous family for the downfall of their men.

Per the magazine, Lamar, “attempted suicide,” Kourtney’s ex-boyfriend and father of her three children Scott Disick “does drugs for breakfast,” Kim Kardashian’s husband, Kanye West’s career is in “tatters,” and Kris’s ex, Caitlyn, formerly known as Bruce endured “23 years of torture.”

While some people think this was incredibly intensive considering the condition of Odom, others agree with the magazine’s statements.
As previously reported, Scott entered a drug rehabilitation center in Malibu last week. As chronicled on Keeping Up With the Kardashians, Disick has always battled substance abuse. The passing of both his parents, however, exacerbated the abuse.

None of the family members have commented, but what do you think? Do they have a point?

OMG! Folks PRAY! Freddie Gray’s Mother Attempts Suicide
According to Baltimore’s WJZ, the mother of Freddie Gray has attempted suicide. Reportedly, multiple sources confirm that Gloria Darden, the mother of Freddie Gray, tried to take her own life late Wednesday night.
The site reports: The call came in around 9:35 p.m. Wednesday for a person needing medical attention in North Baltimore.
Sources tell WJZ that’s where Gloria Darden, the mother of Freddie Gray, attempted suicide and sustained superficial wounds.

Neighbors watched as first responders arrived on scene.
“I seen the police and ambulance right there. They were taking the lady out and putting her on the stretcher bed,” said Diana Bruce, North Baltimore.
Sources say Gray’s mother was taken from that North Baltimore neighborhood to a nearby hospital, where no surgery or stitches were needed.
The lawyer for the Gray family, Billy Murphy, urged restraint from the media regarding Darden’s current situation. He also shared the family’s wishes that the community continue to pray for Darden and for her family.
“Because of an improper invasion of her privacy, Ms. Darden is being thrust into the national spotlight about an extraordinarily personal matter while she is still mourning the loss of her son. I saw her today and I can assure you that this kind of publicity is not at all helpful. We strongly urge the media to show restraint. The family asks that you continue to pray for her and for them.” ~ Billy Murphy via The Washington Post

As previously reported, 25-year-old Freddie Gray was arrested back on April 12. He was critically injured when taken into police custody and died a week later, triggering rioting in unrest in Baltimore.

Rihanna’s Former Publicist Issues Apology For Spreading Jay Z Cheating Rumors
Rumors of Jay Z cheating on Beyonce with Rihanna have been around ever since he first discovered the Bajan beauty.
Now, nearly ten years later, that rumor is being laid to rest. RiRi’s former publicist Jonathan Hay is coming clean and apologizing for making up the rumor that she was having an affair with Jay. According to Daily Mail, “In hopes of giving Rihanna’s debut single Pon De Replay a boost in 2005, her then-publicist Jonathan Hay claimed that the older hip hop star was cheating on Beyonce with the then 17-year-old Rihanna.”

Hay was reportedly forced to issue an apology in light of a new book, Becoming Beyoncé: The Untold Story, hitting shelves. Written by celebrity biographer J Randy Taraborelli, the book claims Rihanna was responsible for the couple’s alleged year-long separation. Hay already issued an apology to Jay and Beyonce, admitting afterward that he feels “this whole thing is very awkward.”
In a statement, Hay recalled: “The PR stunt that I did was out of desperation to help break ‘Pon de Replay.’ It was reckless and I didn’t think it was going to work. I was just throwing spaghetti at the wall to see what would stick.

STILL AN IDIOT! Anthony Mackie explains why ‘Black Panther’ doesn’t need a black director
Anthony Mackie made several unsavory statements earlier this year, especially when he said Selma didn’t win Oscars because people are “bombarded with race.” Then he switched gears with some weird sexist remarks like, “Make daddy a sandwich.” Mackie’s stayed quiet lately because he’s been busy shooting Civil War, although he briefly surfaced to try and find a girlfriend for his bro, Chris Evans. Mackie’s such a talented actor, but man, his messy mouth ruins everything.

Mackie is back to promote Our Brand Is Crisis. A few days ago, he said something about supporting Donald Trump but claimed to be joking. Now he’s spoken with the Daily Beast about Marvel’s Black Panther and more. Mackie very much wanted that role (which recently went to Chadwick Boseman); they hired Mackie to play Falcoln (in the Captain America movies) instead. It all worked out for Mackie, who was still able to yell “Cut the check!” after every scene, and he’s an Avenger. Mackie tells The Beast how a black director doesn’t have to helm Black Panther, and he does not deliver his sentiment well:
On race and directing Black Panther: “I don’t think it’s important at all. As a director your job is to tell a story. You know, they didn’t get a horse to direct Seabiscuit! The thing is I don’t think the race of the director has to do with their ability to tell a story. I think it’s all about the director’s ability to be able to relate to that story and do it justice. I think men can direct women, and two of my greatest work experiences were with female directors. So I think it all depends. May the best man – or woman – win.”

Ummmmmmm, remember this when you azz can’t get a job in Hollywood No more!

Prince Rejoins Instagram!
The reclusive Prince decided to get a little crazy and to embrace the digital realm and fire up his Instagram account one good time.
After all, the legendary singer’s thirty-eighth studio album, HITnRUN phase one was recently released last month so all promotion is good promotion, right? Good luck finding it on YouTube or Apple Music, though.
In just a 24 hours, his social media handlers The Purple One managed to post a whopping 88 posts that include a wide array of nostalgic headshots, current concert tour pics and even some memes. Younger music fans probably best know the 57-year-old superstar from the spoof Dave Chappelle did back in 2004 on his Comedy Central variety show and a well placed (disapproving) memes were thrown up in the mix.

History is Made as Dean Baquet, becomes The First African American named editor of New York Times
Dean Baquet as been named the executive editor of the New York Times, the paper announced Wednesday, replacing Jill Abramson in an unexpected change.
He will become the first African-American executive editor at what is the nation's highest-profile newspaper. Publisher Arthur Sulzberger Jr. made the surprise announcement to editors and reporters Wednesday afternoon. The company didn't give a reason for the change, according to The Associated Press.
In his announcement, Sulzberger said Abramson's departure was related to "an issue with management in the newsroom," according to Politico, and had nothing to do with the quality of the paper's journalism during her tenure. Abramson was not present for the newsroom announcement, Politico noted.
Baquet is "a consummate journalist whose reputation as a fierce advocate for his reporters and editors is well-deserved," Sulzberger said in a memo. "And importantly, he is an enthusiastic supporter of our push toward further creativity in how we approach the digital expression of our journalism."
Baquet, 57, began his newspaper career in New Orleans at the The States-Item and later worked for the The Times-Picayune.

He had been the managing editor for news at the New York Times, replacing Abramson in that role in September 2011.
As a reporter at the Chicago Tribune, Baquet won a the Pulitzer Prize for investigative journalism in 1988 for coverage of corruption at the Chicago City Council. He also served as editor of the Los Angeles Times.
Baquet made national headlines when he landed the Los Angeles position as the first African-American editor of a major newspaper. But he resigned the job a short time after when he and and the then-publisher of the paper refused to make job cuts.

Abramson, 60, was The New York Times' first female executive editor. She joined the newspaper in 1997 and was managing editor for eight years before she took the top editing position.

Black AIDS Groups Says Magic Johnson is A Role Model
Group Says Magic Johnson is a Role Model in the HIV/AIDS Community

Bishop Carl Bean, founder of the Minority AIDS Project, the first community based HIV/AIDS organization established and managed by people of color in the United States issued the following statement today regarding the repeatedly disparaging comments made about NBA great Magic Johnson’s HIV-positive status by Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling in an interview with CNN’s Anderson Cooper.

“The Magic Johnson Foundation was one of the first donors to the Minority AIDS Project organization when we opened in 1985.
It is because of the philanthropic support of role models like Magic Johnson that 29 years later, we are still in the community of South Los Angeles addressing the HIV/AIDS crisis among African-Americans and Latinos.

While Mr. Sterling is entitled to his opinion, his comments are what feeds into the stigma and fear of people living with HIV and AIDS and keeps those possibly infected with the virus from getting tested and seeking help.
In referencing Magic Johnson, Mr. Sterling asked the question, “Is that someone we want to respect, and tell our kids about?”
Our answer is yes.

Magic Johnson took a courageous and bold step when he publicly disclosed his HIV-positive status at a time when it was unpopular to do so.  He single-handedly helped to peel back several layers of shame associated with the virus and gave a voice and a face to the image of HIV and AIDS in America.
From an organization who works in the trenches of the HIV and AIDS epidemic in Los Angeles County, Mr. Johnson has earned our respect and gratitude not only for giving back to the community, but for being one of the persons the newly infected could look up to as being HIV-positive and leading a long successful life.  Mr. Johnson through his career and charity has proven that HIV and AIDS is not an automatic death sentence and that with the proper healthcare, that starts with getting tested, you could live a long and productive life.

Thank you Magic Johnson.”

About the Minority AIDS Project
Founded in 1985 by Carl Bean and member of the Unity Fellowship Church, the Minority AIDS Project (MAP) is the first community based HIV/AIDS organization established and managed by people of color in the United States.
MAP’s primary focus of services and outreach is the African-American and Latino communities in Central and South Central Los Angeles, who at the time of MAP’s opening, had little or no real access to preventive education and essential health care services.

Today, MAP serves the needs of more than 1,200 clients living with HIV/AIDS per month.  MAP also provides prevention services to over 12,000 individuals per year in Los Angeles County.

LeBron Puts NBA on Notice: He will Boycott Next Season if Sterling is Still an Owner
*OK NBA, it’s like this. Your number one star player … your money maker if you will,  is laying down the gauntlet. And in case you need help, his name is LeBron James.

It’s real simple. James, along with other players  won’t play next season if Donald Sterling still is an NBA owner, according to Roger Mason Jr., vice president of the NBA Players Association.
On the “Jim Rome on Showtime” show this week he said that the players are united in boycotting the league next season if Sterling isn’t removed as Clippers owner. The NBA owners committee met for the third time this week to discuss ousting Sterling.

“If it’s not handled by … the start of next season, I don’t see how we’re playing basketball,” Mason said. “I was just in the locker room with LeBron … At the end of the day, you know we have leaders. We have player reps, we’ve got executive committee members … Leaders of the teams, they’re all saying the same thing, ‘If this man is still in place, we ain’t playing.’”
Rome went on to ask: “So your guy LeBron, you think he would not play if Sterling were still in there when the [next] season started?”

“I was just in the locker room three or four days ago. LeBron and I talked about it,” Mason added. “He ain’t playing if Sterling is still an owner.”

When asked about how players would react if Sterling’s wife is kept on as an owner, Mason said: “There’s no place for that family in the NBA.”

And of course we don’t have to remind you that the two Dodo birds known as Donald and Shelly Sterling have said that they will do everything in thier legal rights to fight being removed as owners, and if either of them sues — or if they both do — what will happen if next season comes around and the Sterling saga still isn’t settled? Will the players actually sit out? Well, we shall see won’t we?
