The Daily Buzz For Feb 8 ☕📰☕

Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon & Mindy Kaling cover O, The Oprah Magazine’s March Issue!
The co-stars sat down with the magazine as they discussed the #TimesUp cause, sexism in Hollywood and more.

Read excerpts below:
Mindy Kaling on if she has experienced or witnessed harassment in Hollywood: I’ve been lucky enough to never have been the recipient of the kind of overt, sexually menacing harassment that has been in all the headlines. But I’m empowered as a show creator and writer in a way that I’m not as an actress. Actresses I’ve worked with suffer far more because of the vulnerable nature of their job.

Oprah on being sexually harassed: I didn’t grow up in the movie industry, but in the television business, I was so sexually harassed. It was absolutely, implicitly understood that if I said a word about it, I would have been out of television.
Reese, on women in power: Women in positions of power need to help people understand what the new normal is. You tell people how you want them to treat you.
Oprah, on #MeToo: I’ve seen this happen over and over and over again- the moment you release the thing that has held you in chains or that has made you feel shamed or disappointed in yourself, there’s always, always, always, another person saying, ‘Me, too.’

Reese on Women in Hollywood: For me, one major issue is women’s stories, and creating opportunities for women to tell their stories, which is why I started my production company, Pacific Standard. We cannot expect change in our society if we see only the same movies by the same 20 male directors.
It’s been my mission over the past five years to create better parts for women, and also opportunities for women of color, of different generations, to tell their stories in any capacity. Whether they’re taking photographs or doing podcasts. Just shine a light on those people

#RHoA: NeNe Leakes Takes Credit For Starting Real Housewives Of Atlanta…Should She?
There’s no need for sunglasses on Real Housewives of Atlanta. There is plenty of shade. At best, the self-appointed queen NeNe Leakes seems to think she’s why RHoA is!

During an interview on Live With Kelly and Ryan, Ryan Seacrest asked NeNe, “Do you feel like you get the respect you deserve for being an original on this series?” In true NeNe fashion, she used that question to toot her own horn. She said, “It’s hard to get the respect you deserve. They all come up with these sayings like ‘I’m the new queen. I’m the this. I’m the that.’ They don’t try to give me the respect, but it is what it is. I started the Real Housewives of Atlanta. I reached out to Sheree, Kim, DeShawn Snow for Season 1 and I’ve been there. So I am the original queen bee, honey. Give me my respect.”

NeNe was asked about how her husband Gregg Leakes‘ feelings when she returned to Real Housewives of Atlanta as a full-time cast member. NeNe shared, “Gregg is OK with it. The thing is, Gregg is like my rock so I talk to him a lot about what’s happening on the show. I think Gregg’s biggest concern was ‘are you going to be able to handle it this time around?’ because it can get very difficult. It’s hard working with women who are pulling you apart and trying to snatch your wig off all the time.”

Kelly Ripa tried to get NeNe to call out the “most difficult person” who was trying to snatch that wig off the most. The most obvious answer would be Kim, but she’s not a full-time cast member and I doubt NeNe would ever want to give Kim credit as a genuine adversary. Kelly pushed, “Who’s the one person who’s trying to establish herself against you?”

NeNe’s answer was actually pretty surprising: “That would probably be Kenya. Kenya, she’s an alpha female as well, so she’s a tough cookie.” That was a misleading answer at first until NeNe added, “But we’re in a great place though. I’m very happy for Kenya. You know she’s married.” Oh, we know. We all know.

Tell Us – Does Nene Get The Respect She Deserves On Real Housewives Of Atlanta?

#R&BFLASHBACK: Luther Vandross “Superstar/Until You Come Back To Me”
Luther Vandross was an accomplished songwriter who penned songs for himself and legendary artists like Aretha Franklin, he was also loved for his ability to reinterpret songs that we all knew and loved.
This talent put him in a league with singers like Frank Sinatra and Isaac Hayes who were loved for their ability to make you think that they were the first person to perform classic songs.

Here’s a classic song the late Luther Vandross covered and made his own.

“Superstar/Until You Come Back To Me”

Listen HERE

Prefacing it with a bit of the Stevie Wonder-penned Aretha Franklin classic “Until You Come Back To Me,” Luther took The Carpenters’ AM radio classic “Superstar” and filled it with a ton of soul.

#HIPHOPNEWS: Cardi B Receives Gang Threats After Dissing Crips On Instagram
Cardi B, who’s publicly declared her Blood ties, is now fielding alleged gang threats over an Instagram caption that many deem disrespectful, according to TMZ.
On Monday (Feb. 5), the “Bodak Yellow” chart-topper posted a photo of herself in a blue fur coat. “I hate wearing Flue but this coat was too poppin,” she captioned it.

Her use of the word “Flue” in place of blue was seen as an act of disrespect against Crips. Some allegedly took to social media in retaliation. According to the report, some also threatened her safety in Los Angeles during the NBA All-Star festivities, which is set to take place Feb. 16-18.
“This will not be accepted. #DONTCOMETOLA,” one commenter wrote, while another added: “Now why you go and do this f**k s**t Cardi. This is literally WestCoast Suicide …. bitch betta get #neutral.”

Cardi has since deleted the caption and disabled comments on the video.

Quincy Jones spills Tea About Michael Jackson, Kendrick Lamar, & The Beatles with Vulture Mag!
Obviously once the other person is dead. Quincy Jones doesn’t hold back.

The iconic producer shares his controversial thoughts about Michael Jackson and The Beatles, while celebrating Kendrick Lamar and Chance the Rapper in a candid interview with Vulture.
Speaking of his frequent collaborator M.J., Quincy explained why he viewed him as a “greedy” person who “stole a lot of songs.”
“I hate to get into this publicly,” he said, “but Michael stole a lot of stuff. He stole a lot of songs. [Donna Summer’s] ‘State of Independence’ and ‘Billie Jean.’ The notes don’t lie, man. He was as Machiavellian as they come.” He added: “Greedy, man. Greedy. ‘Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough’ — Greg Phillinganes wrote the c section. Michael should’ve given him 10 percent of the song. Wouldn’t do it.”

He was also not exactly glowing with his review of The Beatles. Speaking of his first impression, Jones said he thought “that they were the worst musicians in the world.” He added: “They were no-playing motherfuckers. Paul was the worst bass player I ever heard. And Ringo? Don’t even talk about it.”
Elsewhere during the interview, Jones said that he isn’t inspired by too many musicians today, but praised Kendrick Lamar, Bruno Mars, and Chance the Rapper, among others.

ON MICHAEL JACKSON’S PLASTIC SURGERY: “I used to kill him about the plastic surgery, man. He’d always justify it and say it was because of some disease he had. Bullshit.”

ON MICHAEL JACKSON’S CHILDHOOD: “He had a problem with his looks because his father told him he was ugly and abused him. What do you expect?”

ON THE BEATLES: “I remember once we were in the studio with George Martin, and Ringo had taken three hours for a four-bar thing he was trying to fix on a song. He couldn’t get it. We said, ‘Mate, why don’t you get some lager and lime, some shepherd’s pie, and take an hour-and-a-half and relax a little bit.’ So he did, and we called Ronnie Verrell, a jazz drummer. Ronnie came in for 15 minutes and tore it up. Ringo comes back and says, ‘George, can you play it back for me one more time?’ So George did, and Ringo says, ‘That didn’t sound so bad.’ And I said, ‘Yeah, motherfucker because it ain’t you.’ Great guy, though.”

ON MUSIC TODAY: “It’s just loops, beats, rhymes, and hooks. What is there for me to learn from that? There ain’t no fucking songs. The song is the power; the singer is the messenger. The greatest singer in the world cannot save a bad song. I learned that 50 years ago, and it’s the single greatest lesson I ever learned as a producer. If you don’t have a great song, it doesn’t matter what else you put around it.”

ON MODERN ARTISTS HE LIKES: “Bruno Mars. Chance the Rapper. Kendrick Lamar. I like where Kendrick’s mind is. He’s grounded. Chance, too. And the Ed Sheeran record is great. Sam Smith — he’s so open about being gay. I love it. Mark Ronson is someone who knows how to produce.”

WOW…So much to say when the dead cannot defend themselves!

‘Big Brother: Celebrity Edition’ 2018: 11 Contestants Revealed!
Big Brother: Celebrity Edition will make its highly anticipated debut on Wednesday night (February 7) – and the star-studded cast is sure to have everybody talking!
This new season will feature some much-buzzed about reality stars, star athletes, performers, actors and more. As with the previous seasons, this new season will also feature Power of Veto and Head of Household competitions, plus live evictions. Internet feeds will also return, as part of CBS All Access.
This is the very first edition of Celebrity Big Brother for CBS.

Omarosa Manigault
The three-time Apprentice contestant and Trump campaigner departed the White House for the Big Brother house. No word on if that is trading up or trading down.

Mark McGrath
The Sugar Ray singer also did a stint on Celebrity Apprentice. He’s actually been on many a reality television program, including Celebrity Wife Swap, a guest judge on American Idol, and host of not one but TWO Pussycat Dolls shows.

Shannon Elizabeth
The American Pie star may not like living on slop if she becomes a “Have Not.” She also appeared on Dancing with the Stars, because of course she did.

Metta World Peace
The former Ron Artest won NBA Defensive Player of the Year honors as well as an NBA title. He’s also best known for the “Malice at the Palace” brawl between fans and players in Detroit while a member of the Indiana Pacers. Not that there’s ever any fighting on Big Brother. Oh, yeah, he also did his time on Dancing with the Stars.

Brandi Glanville
It wouldn’t be a celebrity reality show without a Real Housewife. This time, it’s Brandi from Beverly Hills, who also paid her dues on Celebrity Apprentice. (Who didn’t?)

James Maslow
The Big Time Rush star also got fourth place on season 18 of Dancing with the Stars.

Keshia Knight Pulliam
Rudy Huxtable is in the house! The Big Brother house, to be exact. She also appeared on, yes, Celebrity Apprentice.

Marissa Jaret Winokur
The Hairspray Broadway star was on the same season of Dancing with the Stars as her new housemate Shannon Elizabeth. Instant alliance?

Ariadna Gutierrez
She was Miss Universe in 2015… for about two minutes. Then it was revealed that host Steve Harvey had read the wrong name. Whoops!

Chuck Liddell
The former mixed martial artist will have to use his smarts and social skills, not his fists to win this competition. And if you were wondering which show he previously appeared on: Celebrity Apprentice or Dancing with the Stars, it was the latter.

Ross Mathews
The former Tonight Show intern is a judge on RuPaul’s Drag Race. But now he will be judged by his fellow housemates… and America.

Celebrity Big Brother premieres Feb. 7 on CBS and will conclude Feb. 25
The show airs at 8/7c, with several episodes airing each week. Julie Chen remains the show’s host.

Are you excited to watch Big Brother this season?

‘Black Panther’ Reviews Roar With 100 Percent Rotten Tomatoes Score
The Marvel film follows T’Challa, aka Black Panther, as he returns to his African nation of Wakanda to take his place as King.
Early viewers of the Marvel film “Black Panther” can’t stop purring about it ― and they want you to claw your way into theaters ASAP. Just look at the Rotten Tomatoes rating.

The early Rotten Tomatoes score for the film was already 100 percent after the first 55 reviews went up Tuesday.
“Black Panther” doesn’t roll out in North American theaters until Feb. 16, so the 18th movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe could lose scoring steam by next week. But for now, it doesn’t look like it.
As per Rotten Tomatoes, critics are saying that the film “elevates superhero cinema to thrilling new heights while telling one of the MCU’s most absorbing stories ― and introducing some of its most fully realized characters.”
Additionally, “Black Panther” is making massive waves with both its glorious celebration of African culture and the #BlackPantherChallenge.

Recognizing the significance of a primarily black ensemble cast, New Yorker Frederick Joseph worked with GoFundMe to raise $40,000 to take children from the Harlem Boys & Girls Club to see the film. Joseph has since rallied others to build on this gracious act with the #BlackPantherChallenge. Thousands of people have gotten involved and have donated over $260,000 to similar campaigns.

If the Rotten Tomatoes score for “Black Panther” stays at 100, it’ll be the first film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (and DC universe) to garner a perfect rating. As The Hollywood Reporter noted, both “Wonder Woman” and “Captain America: Civil War” had 100 percent on Rotten Tomatoes in early reviews, “but ended up at 92 percent and 91 percent, respectively.”

You can catch “Black Panther” for yourself in theaters beginning Feb. 16, in both IMAX and 3D.

Stormi Bree Denies Throwing Shade at Kylie Jenner's Baby Name Choice
Model Stormi Bree is denying throwing any shade at Kylie Jenner‘s choice for her baby name: Stormi Webster.
Originally, hours after Kylie posted her baby’s name, Stormi seemingly took to Instagram to respond to having the same exact name as the famous offspring.
Stormi wrote, “Current mood” with a photo of her giving a somewhat annoyed look. Later, Stormi Bree amended the caption to the photo, writing, “(goodness gracious that was bad caption timing lol)”
It looks like the photo that Stormi Bree posted was purely coincidental!

AND FINALLY FROM THE CRAZY PEOPLE SHOPPING AT WALMART FILES

THIS JUST IN! Wendy Williams: HOW DARE YOU PATTI LABELLE SPEAK ON LUTHER VANDROSS’S SEXUALITY! 👀 😲

Wendy Williams: HOW DARE YOU PATTI LABELLE SPEAK ON LUTHER VANDROSS’S SEXUALITY!
Of all people Wendy Williams says that Patti LaBelle was 100% wrong for recently discussing Luther Vandross’ sexuality. As previously reported, earlier this week, LaBelle commented on why she felt the late singer never revealed publicly that he was gay. She stated,
Basically, he did not want his mother to be — although she might have known, but he wasn’t going to come out and say this to the world.

As for Luther Vandross’ female fans. He had a lot of lady fans and he told me he just didn’t want to upset the world.

Wendy weighed in on Patti’s remarks, saying that she should NOT have commented. The talk show host says,
She should have said ‘no comment’. If he had asked me something like that, then – it’s okay for me to talk about it. I didn’t know Luther Vandross. He wasn’t my friend. But, it’s not okay to talk about it when it’s your best friend. You know? It’s like a violation.

WATCH:

Of all people to criticize anyone YOU WENDY The one who would try an OUT on HOT97 back in the day. I guess your Big Bird self got amnesia. Then you ask the audience to clap if you thought Luther was heterosexual??? Wendy you’re full of @#%$*!

My take everybody going off on Patti, ANDY COHEN is the one folks should be sounding the alarm at. Why in the HELL would he compare Sam Smith to Luther Vandross? SERIOUSLY? There is no comparison.

For real I’m giving Patti a pass on this. I don’t honestly think she MEANT to do that! Andy, on the other hand just look at the ish he's doing to those housewives on the reunion shows! 😠 😞

Pharrell Williams COVERS Elle UK’s July Issue In Controversial Native American Headdress
Pharrell Williams nabbed the cover of Elle UK’s newest issue and controversy is already brewing behind P rocking a Native American war bonnet.

[UPDATE]: Pharrell has issued an apology via his rep after receiving negative backlash over his ELLE UK cover wearing a Native American headdress.

He said:
"I respect and honor every kind of race, background and culture. I am genuinely sorry," a rep for the star issued in a statement to the Daily News.
Pharrell Williams is having one hell of a year and to add to his accolades, he has landed on the cover of a special collector’s edition of the July 2014 issue of Elle UK magazine.
Donning an elaborate Native American headdress, the superproducer ditched his now famous Vivienne Westwood hat for Elle UK’s issue that features cult male icons on collector’s edition covers.
In the cover story P talked about how his wife, Helen, helps shape his creativity, his Vivienne Westwood hat and understanding the value of people and things.

Here are the highlights:
On how Helen helps his creativity: "We just motivated each other as friends. She pushes me. I push her."
On his Vivienne Westwood hat: "I remembered (Malcolm McLaren's) Buffalo Gals video, where he wears the hat. I actually wore it five years before I was photographed in it, it's just that no-one was paying attention at the time."

On good manners and understanding the value of things: "I wasn't always that way. I took a lot of years to understand the value of things and the value of the people you work with," he continued. "The value of your fans who ultimately hold you high and lift you up. We're just hang gliders, dude, and they are carrying us around."

Peep the behind-the-scenes-video of P’s Elle UK cover here.

You can check out P’s full spread and interview in the July issue of ELLE, out June 5th.
Meanwhile, people are already up-in-arms over P rocking a feathered warbonnet on the magazine cover. One comment on the magazine’s site reads, “This is so wrong, obviously. Ignorance is not bliss, especially for those of us on the receiving end. Ignorant or indifferent - end result is the same.”
And another comment reads, “Blatant disrespect to Native people and cultural traditions is really disgusting. As a major magazine, you should already know better."

Did you find his cover offensive?

Chris says that his focus now is music - and has privately told his label he will stay out of trouble.

2014 Glamour Women of the Year Awards Draws Big Names
London’s Berkeley Square Gardens was the place to be as the 2014 Glamour Women of the Year Awards was replete with stars.
“American Idol” hunk Adam Lambert mingled with the likes of Emily VanCamp and Lake Bell while beauties like Naomi Campbell and Alexa Chung worked their magic for the cameras.

Also in the house was “Modern Family” hottie Sarah Hyland, who wore a glamorous Gucci dress as she paraded her boyfriend Matt Prokop before the shutterbugs. Sam Claflin also gave the ladies a twinge of excitement has he made his arrival.
But the woman of the evening was most definitely Dame Helen Mirren, who was given the Icon Award from Glamour.
She declared, "There are a lot of really young women here who are very beautiful, incredibly talented, and I salute you and respect you all. I'm so proud to be a member of your sex. Your 40s are good. Your 50s are great. Your 60s are fab. And 70 is f*cking awesome. I'm not quite there yet, but almost."

Shady People Mag Denies Hillary Clinton Using Walker
Potential presidential candidate Hillary Clinton is featured on the cover of this week’s People magazine.

Some are criticizing People magazine’s editors for selecting a photo which gives the impression that the former Secretary of State is so weak she had to prop herself up with a walker.
In the photo Hillary, 66, appears to be holding onto to something with both hands, as if to steady herself.

People’s editors were quick to deny the accusations that they intended to make Hillary look weak and thus unfit to run for office.

From Businessinsider.com:
People magazine provided photographic evidence proving Hillary Clinton was not using a walker during a photoshoot for the cover of the publication’s upcoming issue. The theory Clinton was holding a walker in the picture was first floated by conservative blogger Matt Drudge after the cover photo excerpts of the People article on Clinton were published online Wednesday.

“Secretary Clinton is standing next to a patio chair in the backyard of her home where the photo shoot took place! I have also attached another photo from the shoot – thanks for checking in on this,” Nancy Valentino, a senior vice president of communications at Time Inc., which owns People, wrote to Business Insider in an email.

Dame Dash Tells Funkmaster Flex to Come See About Him “Beef”
Well Funkmaster Flex has ruffled some of Dame Dash’s feathers the other night when he was on air. It appears that Flex was going to air some dirty laundry about him and he made an announcement via Twitter for everyone to tune in..

Reports Vlad:
The famed Hot 97 radio personality came to Joie’s defense and had some other choice words for Dash, to which the music mogul responded to. Dame said that he would never come between a man and his issues with someone else, and offered to talk things out face to face.
“Hey @djfunkflex would not have an issue with another man over another man… I believe a man should speak up for himself and I really hope you would never desrespect me over another man I’m 43 so what I will do is give you an interview live where you can ask me any question you want and joi can as well…I was wondering who was gonna defend him from our culture… Funny that’s is you but…but I think you should have called me out of respect…but well talk about that face to face like men…your over 40 as well.”

First of all Hot 97 is doing whatever it takes for ratings and it’s obvious…. It’s not even officially summer and it’s already hot in these streets…

Beyonce Crushed By The Truth of Jay-Z’s Cheating
In order to be that strong woman that Beyonce plays on stage she was going to eventually have to come to terms with her own life situation, right? So after that infamous elevator video leaked out a few weeks back it was kind of inevitable that Queen Bey was going to have to face her own worst fears and take a good, hard look at her home life. According to the June 16th print edition of Life & Style magazine it didn’t take much digging for Beyonce to realize that a lot of those rumors about Jay hooking up with his protege’ were true.  The truth has hit the star hard and those close to her are wondering how she is going to survive a summer on tour with a man that she can’t stand the sight of. Especially since part of their appeal is portraying a smoking hot couple onstage!

Speaking of broken couples, Bethenny Frankel’s divorce has been a disaster since the very start and as it still drags on the former reality star now claims that Jason Hoppy tortured her. These two have fought over everything from who would live in their home to (of course) custody of their daughter. As long as people listen it seems that one of them will be more than willing to complain. Does Miley Cyrus want Liam Hemsworth back? According to the new issue of Life & Style it might be what is at the root of all of her crazy behavior.

Can you guys imagine Kim Kardashian and Kanye West having another baby? Isn’t having one to ignore hard enough? Apparently less than two weeks after tying the knot in an over-the-top ceremony Kanye wants to start working on baby number two because he needs a little prince in the family. Kim isn’t exactly on board with the plan and it’s supposedly causing friction in their marriage already. How long do you think that Kim and Kanye’s marriage will last before things get ugly?

Take a Peek Inside Dr. Dre's 3.6 Acre, $40 Million Mega-Mansion
Although FORBES made sure to shut down the notion that Dr. Dre is in the Billionaire's Club (he's just a couple hundred million shy)....that won't stop him from living like one.  The BEATS co-founder plunked down $40 Million to purchase a mega-mansion formerly owned by supermodel Gisele Bundchen and NFL QB Tom Brady.

The Brentwood, CA palace is 3.5 acres and includes a professional grade home gym, an infinity pool, a waterfall and motor court.  We managed to grab a few interior pics of the STUPID BIG pad from a profile Architectural Digest ran on Gisele.  And we're fantasizing with every pic.
Must be nice......

Michael Jackson’s Security Team Reveals Stories Never Told Before In New Book
No doubt, working as security for the most famous person in the world – especially if that person happens to be Michael Jackson – will eventually give way to a book. Can you imagine the experiences Bill Whitfield and Javon Beard, two men who spent 2 -1/2 years working together as the security team for Jackson, were privy to?

Now, as we approach the fifth year of Jackson’s passing (June 25, 2014), the two men have come out with a book that sheds light on the ways of their reclusive boss called “Remember the Time: Protecting Michael Jackson in His Final Days.”
Bill Whitfield was approached by a friend in 2006, who wanted him to work security for a mystery client who turned out to be Michael Jackson.

Whitfield, who had previously done security for Uptown Records founder Andre Harrell, was shocked to learn that Jackson’s entire security team would be him. So they brought in Javon Beard, who had never worked for a celebrity of this magnitude.

The two men were often Jackson’s sole conduit to the outside world, planning every aspect of his life to ensure the safest possible conditions. They kept him shielded even from his own family — who had to make appointments to see The King of Pop, per his request.

The men share many stories the public has probably never heard; including the stars’ naivete about real life conditions in the world such as homelessness, panic attacks, and paranoia.
Whitfield recalls the first time Jackson ever saw homeless people, from the window of his limo while driving around Las Vegas in early 2007. According to Whitfield, “Mr. Jackson saw these people and said, ‘Why are these people out there?’ ”

“Those are homeless people, sir,” Whitfield replied. “He was like, ‘Really? Wow.’ ”

Jackson had Beard, who was driving, pull over, and he watched them in amazement from his limo. He had the driver call a homeless woman over to the car and gave the ever-grateful stranger $300, leaving her close to tears. But as Beard started to pull away, they noticed a man she was with try to take the money, so Jackson gave the man $300 as well. “The lady started crying,” writes Beard, “like she’d been saved.”

The elusive star spent the rest of the night giving hundred-dollar bills to homeless people. “It’s just amazing,” he later said. “This country is so rich, and these people are poor and living on the street.”

The two speak of Jackson’s paranoia…

“He was always going around the house at 3 [or] 4 in the morning, checking locks on all the doors,” recalls Whitfield, who notes that Jackson “trusted no one” and “didn’t sleep much.”

His panic attacks…
Jackson even had “panic buttons” installed in several rooms for him and his children to press if there was trouble. “The alarm didn’t sound inside the house,” writes Whitfield. “Just in the [security] trailer, to alert us. And it was a loud-ass alarm.”

The first time the panic button was pressed, early one morning in April 2007, Whitfield heard it in the security trailer, ran around the house toward the kitchen door and stormed the kitchen with his semi-automatic Glock drawn — only to find Jackson and his children quietly eating their cereal. “They saw me and they froze,” he writes. “[Jackson’s son Blanket] was across the room by the TV, where the panic button was mounted on the wall. He was just walking around, hitting buttons.” While everyone was safe, Jackson was not happy about having a weapon pulled on his family. “Oh,” writes Whitfield, “he got on me about that.”

Michael lost his desire to go to an event he’d planned for weeks when brother Randy Jackson burst through the partially opened gates of his home once, demanding money he says Michael “owed him.”

The security team also speak of Jackson’s romance with a woman he only referred to as “Friend.”

While in Virginia in September 2007, Jackson told Whitfield that he needed to pick someone up from the airport. When Whitfield asked if the person needed to be vetted, Jackson said no, and referred to his mystery visitor simply as “Friend.” This visitor, it turned out, was Jackson’s secret girlfriend.

When they picked her up at Dulles Airport, they found a raving beauty, about 5-foot-4 with an Eastern European accent and dark, curly hair. They picked her up and drove her to a Hampton Inn in Chantilly, about 45 minutes from where Jackson was living. For the week or so that she was in town, Whitfield would drive Jackson to see her after the kids went to sleep. They would sneak in through the hotel’s emergency exit, and Jackson would stay there for hours but never spend the night, always making sure he was home before his children awoke. Whitfield and Beard believe the relationship was special for Jackson, as he would have them get gifts for her, such as engraved items from Tiffany.

Jackson and “Friend” were always affectionate and cozy. Whenever they were together they would “hold hands, sit very close together in the car, hug, kiss,” according to Whitfield. There were even times when they’d arrive at a destination, and whichever man was driving them would struggle to get their attention because they were making out in the back.

Also In “Remember the Time: Protecting Michael Jackson in His Final Days,” Bill Whitfield and Javon Beard, let readers know what it was like working with the King of Pop during the final years of his life and they’re not holding back, either.

For instance, there was the time, back in 2007 when the iPhone was introduced to the world, MiJac wanted one, but according to Whitfield and Beard, it almost didn’t happen because  his credit was super jacked up. Whitfield says he once overheard Jackson say he had no idea where his money was or how much he had. He also talks about how  he and Beard weren’t paid for months on end.

Anyway, as far as the iPhone is concerned, Whitfield said after Beard stood in line for two and a half hours to buy one, he was asked by Jackson to set up the phone. That’s when things really got interesting.

Here’s what happened next, according to Whitfield:
“I had all his personal information, so I said sure. I first tried to set it up in his name, but after running Michael Jackson’s Social Security number, AT&T wanted a $1,500 deposit. Just to turn on a cell phone. That’s how bad his credit was. I went ahead and set up the account in my name. Then he wanted an iPhone for his mom, so he could send her pictures of the kids. I set up his mother’s cell phone in my name too.”

Whitfield said eventually Jackson’s number was changed and the bill for both phone accounts was never paid.

“The charges had run up close to two thousand dollars, and they got disconnected,” said Whitfield.

I’m not buying any of this sh*t

Luther Vandross FINALLY Receives Star on Walk of Fame
For a man who sold well over 25 million records in his lifetime, won eight Grammy Awards and functioned as R&B’s chairman of the board for the better part of two decades, Luther Vandross goes strangely undermentioned today as a giant of urban music.

Yet the star, who died in 2005 at age 54 and is only now receiving his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, represented the vanguard of R&B during a time when it was relatively absent from the mainstream pop music conversation, erecting an indelible bridge between the great soul troubadours or disco mavens of the ’70s and the crossover-friendly R&B divas of the present day.
“There are a lot of trumpeters who play with a lot technique, and there are a lot of singers who can riff all over the place,” longtime collaborator Marcus Miller once said of Vandross. “But Luther and Miles (Davis), they could play all the notes, but they just played the right notes. They found the notes that would affect you, emotionally.”

Thanks to his seemingly effortless talent, Vandross experienced a lengthy career in music long before he cut his first record. In addition to work as a producer and a flourishing side career as a singer of radio and TV jingles, Vandross was nearly omnipresent in the late ’70s as a backing singer. Ironically, considering his initial lack of pop crossover appeal as a solo artist, Vandross was particularly adept at straddling genres, appearing on albums by Chic, Carly Simon, Barbra Streisand, Bette Midler, Quincy Jones, Sister Sledge and Average White Band. A featured spotlight on David Bowie’s “Young Americans” even led to a supporting slot with the Thin White Duke on tour.
In advance of his 1981 solo debut “Never Too Much,” Vandross hooked up with former high school classmate (and nephew of jazz legend Cannonball Adderley) Nat Adderley Jr. and jazz bassist Miller, who also worked frequently with Miles Davis throughout the decade. The three would be inseparable collaborators for the rest of Vandross’ career, racking up seven straight R&B No. 1 albums in 1981-91, and finally notching a Billboard No. 1 in 2003 with “Dance With My Father.”
By the mid-1980s, just as Vandross’ star was cresting, R&B was suffering from an acute dearth of male stars: Marvin Gaye had been shot dead, Al Green was focused on his ministry and abstained from secular music, Barry White had begun a period of commercial decline and Stevie Wonder’s golden era had ended. Vandross somehow managed to fill that void by taking a sharp turn away from his male predecessors, boasting a heart-on-sleeve femininity and a willingness to let his voice crack into weepy whispers and almost kitschy overflows of emotion, providing an unsung blueprint for the uber-sensitive likes of Maxwell and D’Angelo who followed his lead in the 1990s and beyond.
“I love Stevie Wonder and I love Teddy Pendergrass and I love Donny Hathaway and Tony Bennett for that matter,” Vandross said in a 1982 interview, “but they were not the ones to arouse my musical libido. It was those nights with the earphones listening to Aretha (Franklin) sing ‘Ain’t No Way’ and listening to Dionne Warwick sing ‘People’ and listening to Diana Ross sing ‘Reflections.’ It was those nights that just knocked me down. I emulated these people. And as a result of having a lot of female singers as my idols, my sensitivity level is much different than a lot of other guys singing.”
