Adwoa Aboah for Harper's Bazaar - May 2021!
In my younger years, it wasn’t that I didn’t care, but I was young and innocent, so I hadn’t even started thinking about [beauty]. My family are proper tight, and I felt not necessarily beautiful, but I felt comfortable. As soon as I went to boarding school [at 13], I didn’t have that. I was like, “Oh, my God, I’m growing up, and I don’t have the comforts of home,” and I was thrown into this setting that’s predominantly white, and it was too much. That’s not necessarily an attack on my parents, but it’s something I’ve been thinking about a lot over the past year, with the resurgence of Black Lives Matter and unpacking this idea of race and where I stand in that. I wish we had spoken about it a little bit more and looked at what it meant to be both Black and white, because I think there was a point last year where I was like, “I don’t feel Black enough, and I don’t feel white enough.” And that was a feeling I hadn’t really felt since I was at school.
Beauty is very much linked to my feeling happy, comfortable, content, and safe.
So much of the way I look at myself and my self-worth has always coincided with my mental health, so it hasn’t necessarily been something positive. It’s only been over the last five, six years that I’ve really got my head around this idea of beauty, self-worth, confidence, and all the rest that comes with it. Before that, it felt like something that was out of reach. The women I was looking up to, the women I admired for their beauty—it was completely unrealistic. I loved Agyness Deyn and Gemma Ward and Kate Moss, but I find that pretty depressing to think about—that all these women look so different to me and those were the people I thought were stunning. I have lots of beauty icons now, but it’s not about what I aspire to look like. Now it’s just someone who I admire and celebrate and appreciate. I think my sister, Kesewa, is the most stunning human on the planet. She really is a goddess. I think ZoΓ« Kravitz is just so cool; Michaela Coel, Future, Paloma [Elsesser], Precious [Lee], Hunter [Schafer], obviously Rihanna.
The other day my sister reminded me of a photo taken somewhere within the first year of my sobriety, and I remember feeling really stunning. It wasn’t about my outfit. It had nothing to do with external validation. It came from inside, as cheesy as that sounds. I felt beautiful because I felt happy. Beauty is very much linked to my feeling happy, comfortable, content, and safe.
We’ve had a lot more time on our hands to sit and scroll through our phones [this year]. It’s definitely been a bit of a head fuck. Too much comparing. Sometimes I feel very grateful that I’m so in [social media] because I get to see it for what it is. I see that it doesn’t equate to happiness.
I have lots of beauty icons now, but it’s not about what I aspire to look like. Now it’s just someone who I admire and celebrate and appreciate.
There have been many times recently where I’ve had to take stock of all the things in my life that bring me joy. The people around me make me feel beautiful and happy. But it just doesn’t happen overnight. I didn’t wake up one day and be like, “Fuck, I’m fit.” Sometimes I do wake up and I’m like, “Yes, you look amazing.” Then sometimes I’m like, “Ick.” And that’s really fine. I think that’s what’s nice to know. It’s completely fine.
#RHOA: ‘Nene Leakes Shares Tribute Following the Death of Her ‘Mom!
Former “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” reality star Nene Leakes has announced that she lost her aunt, whom she considered a mother figure — days before Mother’s Day on May 9.
“If you know me, then you know my aunt AKA mom meant everything to me! She raised me from 3 years old and taught me the true definition of a ‘strong Black woman.’ She taught me to love all people no matter their ethnicity,” Leakes wrote for the caption on Sunday, April 25.
Former “RHOA” reality star Nene Leakes reveals that her aunt who raised her has passed away.
“She said…’ it’s important to work hard as hell, be ambitious, have confidence, be honest, stand strong in your beliefs, and give us something to be proud of,’ ” Leakes continued.
The 53-year-old noted that she gets her humor from her late aunt. “She is hilarious! We would laugh about everything (wow, the memories).”
“No matter what life throws my way, I will continue to stand as the strong Black powerful woman you always taught me to be! Rest peacefully until we meet againππΎ we are gonna celebrate you so big this week,” she added. “Nena Thomas 94 years old ❤️ Thank you all for your love & support.”
Fans flooded Leakes’ comments section with love, support and prayers for her and her family during this difficult time.
“My condolences π Luv Bug! May your day be filled with memories of the good times & laughter that you both shared…Love ya & miss u, Queen π ππ½ππ½ππ½ππ½.”
“What a blessing to have had her in your life! You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. π.”
“Sorry for your loss. ❤️ thinking of you all.”
“Praying your strength, lady, during this difficult time. May God provide your heart with the type of comfort only he can supply. My deepest condolences to you and your family. ππΎ.”
“Prayers to you and your family NeNe. May God rest her soul. ππΎππΎππΎ.”
“Chills! Sending you my love. We lost one of our matriarchs last year, and it’s just so refreshing to see Black women who don’t HAVE to take time out with you, raise you, and or love you. Do all three effortlessly. A true gem to your world. Sending you my love.”
Fans of Leakes who watched her on “RHOA” have gotten a sense of the pivotal role her aunt played in her life. In 2015, Leakes stormed off the season 7 “RHOA” reunion, crying after the reality star’s mother became a topic.
Dr. Jeff Gardere joined the reunion show with host Andy Cohen and Leakes revealed that she left his group therapy session with the rest of the cast because she felt that Gardere was making her the problem.
“I never want to be a victim. I’m a strong woman. My mother didn’t raise me. My father never claimed me,” Leakes said. “I have been lied to; I have been cheated on; I have been in an abusive relationship, but everybody else got to be like, ‘I’ve been bullied, my mom was never there for me, my brother died.’ ”
“Everybody else had all these issues that caused them to feel this way whenever I was in the room, but I was never that person who had any kind of issue myself. I never had anything. I did not like that,” she added.
Gardere said he knew about Leakes’ battles with abandonment. Former co-star Porsha Williams said everyone started to come at Leakes, making her defensive. Housewife Kandi Burruss rebutted that Gardere was there to represent the entire group, but Leakes became angry.
The ladies started to go back and forth, causing Leaks to cry and shake. Frenemy Kenya Moore, who also has a struggling relationship with her mother, told Leakes they have a lot in common.
Leakes then stood up, crying, and said, “I can’t talk about my mom!” Williams, Cynthia Bailey and former housewife Phaedra Parks walked off the set with Leakes, with her husband Gregg Leakes hugging his wife during the intense moment.
Gregg told Cohen that Leakes’ mother had five children, but couldn’t raise them all. Leakes moved to Athens to live and be raised by her aunt.
“She has always wondered why she had to be one of the ones sent away; it’s bugged her all her life,” Gregg said to Cohen.
Eventually, the mother of two returned to the set, saying, “I’m good.”
“Maybe I have been misunderstood somewhere along the line … people think I haven’t been through anything in my life. It’s just really hard to talk about my mom,” she added.
At the end of the reunion, Leakes believed that she and the other ladies shared a sisterhood. Leakes is no longer on “RHOA” because she and Bravo TV weren’t able to agree on contract negotiations.

Prosecutors won’t charge Trey Songz after scuffle with police at Arrowhead! ‘Insufficient evidence’!
Jackson County prosecutors will not charge R&B artist Trey Songz after he was arrested during a Chiefs playoff game at Arrowhead Stadium. Prosecutors cited insufficient evidence in the case.
Songz, whose real name is Tremaine Aldon Neverson, was arrested in January after fans complained to security that a man was not following the stadium code of conduct or COVID-19 mandates put in place by the Kansas City Health Department.
The Kansas City Police Department said security told Songz he would be arrested for trespassing if he did not leave Arrowhead. When he didn’t leave his seat, officers told Songz he was under arrest. Police say that’s when Songz punched an officer and put him in a headlock.
Police later released video of the incident in the seats at Arrowhead. Songz spent one night in jail and then bonded out and headed home.

Janet Jackson's Infamous Super Bowl Incident To Be Focus Of New Documentary!
Since it first premiered, the Framing Britney Spears documentary has had an immense impact on public perception of Spears’ career and her current on-going legal cases. Revelations from the doc ignited a reckoning with how the press treated Spears, and also caused viewers to reconsider the role that Justin Timberlake played in his ex’s public suffering.
Now, Page Six reports that the production team behind Framing Britney Spears, Left/Right TV, is making a new documentary that will investigate Janet Jackson’s infamous 2004 Super Bowl halftime show.
That performance included Jackson’s notorious “wardrobe malfunction,” during which Timberlake pulled off Jackson’s costume to reveal a pasty covering her otherwise bare breast. At the time, Jackson was crucified by the press for indecency during a national, televised sporting event, while Timberlake walked away relatively unscathed.
A source told Page Six, “It’s going to be all about the fallout and the suits who f–ked over Janet [at] Viacom,” the company that owned MTV — which produced the halftime show — and CBS, which broadcast the game.
“They’re reaching out to everyone who was involved: dancers, stylists, directors. Everyone,” said the source.
It’s not yet clear whether Jackson, 54 or Timberlake, 40, will participate in the documentary. Jackson is currently working on her own two-part documentary about her life, premiering on Lifetime and A&E next year.
“They did the Britney doc without [Spears], and there’s been more interest in the Super Bowl since that documentary premiered and Justin apologized to [both Spears and Jackson recently],” the source said.
After Framing Britney aired, Timberlake posted an apology note to both Spears and Jackson on social media.
“I’ve seen the messages, tags, comments, and concerns [on social media] and I want to respond. I am deeply sorry for the times in my life where my actions contributed to the problem, where I spoke out of turn, or did not speak up for what was right,” he wrote. “I understand that I fell short in these moments and in many others and benefited from a system that condones misogyny and racism.”
According to Page Six, the documentary will also cover disgraced former CBS CEO Les Moonves, who was widely reported to be “obsessed with ruining [Jackson]’s career.”
Left/Right is making the film with The New York Times, and it will also air on FX and HULU.
The Talk Ratings Plummet As It Becomes The Lowest-Rated Daytime Program As The Show Returns Following Sharon Osbourne's Exit!
The Talk returned with original episodes for the first time since Sharon Osbourne's abrupt exit from the show, and the ratings have plummeted even further.
The CBS syndicated talk show returned on April 13, its first episode in nearly a month after Osbourne's abrupt exit, after getting into a heated argument with Sheryl Underwood over her support for Piers Morgan.
The Talk had been suffering from slipping ratings even before the hiatus, but Soap Opera Network reports it has now fallen to become the lowest-rated daytime show.
The ratings report for the week of April 12-16 revealed The Talk came in last place in both the Women 18-49 demographic (0.23 rating) and the Women 25-54 demographic (0.35 rating).
It was reported in mid-March, just after Osbourne left the show over the drama with Underwood, that the show was averaging 1.505 million total viewers, down a whopping 27% from the previous season where it averaged 2.057 million viewers.
It ranked last among the 13 daytime programs in all ratings categories, while The View has taken advantage, up 14% from last season as of March.
Sharon was the last original cast member left, who co-hosted the first season in 2010 with Julie Chen (who left after Season 8), Sara Gilbert (who left after Season 9) and a trio who only lasted the first season - Marissa Jaret Winokur, Holly Robinson Peete and Leah Remini.
The show is now hosted by Sheryl Underwood, Carrie Ann Inaba, Amanda Kloots and Elaine Welteroth, with some fans stating they were 'boycotting' the show in Osbourne's absence.
'I have boycotted the show due to the unfair treatment of Sharon Osbourne! So much for free speech in America!' a fan wrote
Summer Walker Says She's Done With Men: 'I'm Scarred Fo Life'!
Summer Walker is putting men on ice. On Monday (April 26), the "White Tee" singer took to Instagram Stories — via her "galactawhore" Instagram account — to let the world know that she's over men. “Where the b*tches at?” she wrote alongside a rainbow emoji. “I never wanna see another [eggplant emoji] again. I’m scarred fo life.”
While it's unclear what sparked her message, Summer's fans were quick to support her as she shared a screenshot of one fan's reply to her post that read, "You have come to your senses! FINALLY.” Summer then responded, “It’s not even funny but fr tho.”
As fans know, Summer recently welcomed her first child with her on-again-off-again boyfriend London On Da Track. While split news has not been reported, it would seem like there's some trouble in paradise given Summer's post.
Most recently, London gifted Summer a Tesla Model X for her birthday in April.
Summer isn't only over men, she's also over the music industry. Late last month, just one week after she gave birth to her first child, the R&B singer announced on Instagram that she was thinking about walking away from music.
"I legit hate this job, lol," she wrote on Instagram Stories March 31. "why can't I just put out music w out stalkers being blessed with my private life. I need to start figuring out my next job."
Anderson Cooper Celebrates 'Sweet' and 'Kind' Son Wyatt on His First Birthday!
On Tuesday, Anderson Cooper marked his son's first birthday with a sweet social media message for his adorable baby boy.
Sharing a photograph of Wyatt smiling and holding a red balloon, as well as a shot of the little guy resting in a chair, Cooper, 53, began the caption of his Instagram post, writing, "Today is Wyatt's first birthday. I can't believe it has already been a year."
"He is sweet and funny, happy and kind, and i love him more than I ever thought possible," the CNN anchor added.
In the comments section of the post, an array of fans shared celebratory messages with Wyatt, as many also couldn't help but point out the similarities between the tyke and his famous dad.
"He looks just like you! Happy Birthday Wyatt!" one user wrote as another added, "He looks SO much like you."
"What a cutie and so full of joy!" added another fan.
Meanwhile, another user mentioned Cooper's late mother, Gloria Vanderbilt, in their message, writing, "He looks just like you! I'm sure your mama is looking at him with sooo much love and pride!"
Last year, after welcoming Wyatt into the world, Cooper opened up to PEOPLE about how he had been enjoying every minute of fatherhood ever since the birth of his son.
"When I was 12 years old and knew I was gay and thought about my life, it always upset me because I thought, 'I will never be able to have a kid,' "This is a dream come true."
"It feels like my life has actually begun," Cooper continued. "And I sort of wonder, what was I waiting for?"
"This is a new level of love. It's unlike anything I've experienced, and yet it's also very familiar and incredibly special and intimate," he added. "It's really extraordinary."
Redman to Join Method Man in Power Book II Season 2 — Who'll He Play?
What Power Book II: Ghost creator Courtney Kemp hath desired, let no man tear asunder.
In September, TVLine reported on how the executive producer hoped to cast Reggie “Redman” Noble as the mentioned — but not seen — brother of Clifford “Method Man” Smith’s Davis Maclean.
“My dream is to get Redman to do it,” Kemp said at the time. “That’s my dream… but I don’t know yet. We haven’t gotten there yet.”
Power fans: We’re there.
Starz on Tuesday announced that Grammy-nominated Redman will play Theo Rollins, Maclean’s older brother. Per the official character description:
Theo Rollins used to run the streets with his little brother, Davis MacLean. But now, they sit on opposite sides of the law with Theo serving an extensive prison term, and Davis, off his win in the Tasha St. Patrick case, now the biggest defense attorney in New York City. They both know, had the past played out differently, Davis could be locked up alongside his big brother, but Theo questions if the guilt’s enough for Davis to keep his promise.
Fans of the show will remember that, upon meeting Tasha, Davis noted that he’d once had to represent his own brother. (From the blurb above, we’re guessing that didn’t go too well.)
Redman (of Def Squad) and Method Man (of Wu-Tang Clan) have been a rap/pop-culture duo for more than two decades, teaming up for albums like Blackout!, a movie called How High and a very brief 2004 Fox sitcom called Method & Red. Their recent Verzuz performance was, well, [fire emoji].
In addition, Redman’s other credits include Seed of Chucky and video games including True Crime: New York City and Def Jam Vendetta.
‘Love & Marriage: Huntsville’: Melody Holt Blasts Ex Martell After He Confirms Love Child on Instagram!
Martell and Melody Holt are divorced but the issues from their relationship continue to linger. The Love & Marriage: Huntsville stars have been open about their marital strife, including Martell’s long term mistress, Arionne Curry.
Curry recently welcomed a baby with Martell, who was conceived during his marriage to Melody. Melody is now slamming Martell for publicly acknowledging his love child in a recent social media post.
The real estate developer has tried his best to avoid questions regarding his love child. But during the season 2 finale of Love & Marriage: Huntsville, Martell spoke with Curry over the phone regarding her pregnancy. He admits that he believes Curry was loyal to him throughout their five-year affair but he wants a DNA test.
In a recent interview with The Steve Harvey Morning Show, Martell confirmed that he has a baby with Curry. Their son was born just a year after Martell’s fourth child with Melody. Still, Curry told fans in an Instagram Q&A that Martell is still requesting a DNA test.
But apparently, Martell is ready to handle his responsibilities as a father. In a recent Instagram post, he proclaimed to be a father of five – the fifth child being the one he shares with Curry.
“Daddy does all he can for his 5 troopers, but today is my little girl Malani’s first day of school,” he captioned a photo of him with he and Melody’s youngest daughter. “Hugs and kisses to this little girl, who’s looking at daddy like, “you don’t think you’re about to leave me, do you “? Daddy saw each one off the same way, so 4 down and 1 to go!”
Melody is not happy about Martell’s post. In a response of her own, she’s slamming her ex, calling him out for using a photo of their child to publicly acknowledge his child with Curry.
“Announce your affair born child on your own TIME, NOT with my daughter (you know the one who you refused to help with after I had her, the one you refused to see on her first birthday, the one you got NOTHING for for Christmas),” Melody began in her post. She also questions why Martell chose a photo of their child for the announcement versus debuting the child in his own photo. For Melody, she feels Martell is possibly ashamed of the baby.
In the caption, Melody accuses Martell of being an absentee father to their four children amid their split – and stealing thousands of dollars from their joint account before their divorce was finalized.
She ends the post insisting she’s not upset that Martell is acknowledging his child. Instead, she finds his announcement in poor taste.
“I’m upset that he did it and of course getting negative comments under a picture with MY child in his lap,” she continued. “Don’t use my DAUGHTER as a photo-op to come out and acknowledge your affair born child.”
Melody also shared a screenshot of a text from this past easter of Martell asking to reconcile.
New Couple Alert? Kim Kardashian and Van Jones?
With Kim Kardashian moving forward with her divorce from Kanye West, fans are now focused on who she might date next. While West reportedly wants to romance “an artist” the next time around, many on social media are circling back to CNN personality Van Jones for Kardashian because of her continuing interest in pursuing her law degree.
The rumors about the two originated in early January amid the Kardashian/West split, but their friendship goes back to 2018 when they were keynote speakers at Rolling Stone’s Criminal Justice Reform Summit. Jones also had the Keeping Up with the Kardashians star on his show to talk about her work with prison reform. Beyond the fact that both of them are currently single, we have no evidence that they have dated in the past — but what about now?
The rumors are starting to heat up that they’ve found a cute Legally Blonde love match, per Page Six. Neither party has confirmed the news, but that hasn’t stopped social media from commenting on the idea of them together. They are being downright cruel in suggesting that Kardashian is using Jones to get the law career she wants. The accusation stings, especially when she’s been pretty focused and serious about following in her father, Robert Kardashian’s, legal footsteps. “People are gonna look at Kim as using Kanye to advance her in the fashion world and using Van Jones to help advance her into her next career field in law,” wrote one Twitter account.
If Kardashian and Jones are dating, couldn’t it be that their interest in the law is what brought them together instead of just assuming a woman is using a man to get something out of him?
Maybe we should all take the approach of another Twitter user, who wrote, “Van Jones is a good choice. A smart stable guy. He’s a good guy and he has his own money. You would make a nice couple.” Let the two of them decide what works for them — legal buddies, friends with benefits, or a steady relationship. As two very successful public figures, I think they can manage it without the unnecessary commentary.
Former NFL And Florida State Linebacker Geno Hayes Dead At 33!
Former NFL and Florida State linebacker Geno Hayes died from liver disease on Monday. He was 33-years-old.
Before his death, Hayes was in hospice care at his mother’s home in Valdosta, Georgia. He was diagnosed with liver disease two years ago and was waiting for a transplant. He received his diagnosis after he suddenly dropped from 220 pounds to 150 pounds.
He previously told ESPN that he believes his use of over-the-counter pain medications while playing in the NFL and his family’s history of liver disease lead to his liver failure.
Despite being hospitalized over 20 times over the last year, he was hopeful that he would receive a transplant. In December, he had been placed on a waiting list at the Mayo Clinic and Northwestern Medicine.
Hayes kept his diagnosis relatively private, except for family and friends. He only began to talk about it toward the end of his life in hopes that he could help someone “going through something similar.”
“I wanted more to know but didn’t want to be a burden,” Hayes said.
Hayes was drafted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers of the 2008 NFL draft, where he played until 2011. He then played with the Chicago Bears in 2012, and he last played for the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2014.
Before Hayes played in the NFL, Smith played at Florida State. During his time there, he was named an All-American.
Hayes leaves behind his wife, Shevelle, and their two children Gemarii, 13, and Skyler, 8.

DEVELOPING NOW! Federal investigators search Rudy Giuliani's NYC apartment!
WASHINGTON — Federal officials executed a search warrant at Rudy Giuliani’s Manhattan apartment Wednesday, sources familiar with the matter confirmed, signaling that prosecutors are ramping up their investigation into former President Donald Trump’s lawyer.
It was unclear what was seized in the search, which The New York Times first reported. Giuliani did not immediately respond to a text message from NBC News.
Federal investigators have been looking into Giuliani’s dealings with Ukrainian officials. Last December, federal prosecutors discussed whether to make a legal request for Giuliani’s electronic communications. Prosecutors for the Southern District of New York were in contact with Justice Department officials in Washington about gaining access to his emails.
In October 2019, The Wall Street Journal reported that those New York prosecutors were reviewing Giuliani's bank records as part of an investigation into his dealings in Ukraine.
Trump's vendetta against U.S. intelligence agencies carried on by House Republicans
Giuliani was a key figure in the events that led up to Trump's first impeachment, relying on Ukrainian officials and members of their parliament to try to dig up dirt about Joe Biden as he ran for president.
Democrats said that there was overwhelming evidence that Trump had abused his power by pressuring Ukraine to announce investigations into Biden and his son, Hunter, while withholding almost $400 million in aid. They also said Trump obstructed Congress by refusing to release any documents related to his actions.
