The Iconic Cicely Tyson, groundbreaking award-winning actress, dead at 96!
Cicely Tyson, the pioneering Black actor who gained an Oscar nomination for her role as the sharecropper’s wife in “Sounder,” a Tony Award in 2013 at age 88 and touched TV viewers’ hearts in “The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman,” died Thursday at age 96.
Tyson’s death was announced by her family, via her manager Larry Thompson, who did not immediately provide additional details.
“With heavy heart, the family of Miss Cicely Tyson announces her peaceful transition this afternoon. At this time, please allow the family their privacy,” according to a statement issued through Thompson.
A onetime model, Tyson began her screen career with bit parts but gained fame in the early 1970s when Black women were finally starting to get starring roles. Besides her Oscar nomination, she won two Emmys for playing the 110-year-old former slave in the 1974 television drama “The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman.”
Tyson’s memoir, “Just As I Am,” was published this week.
“I’m very selective as I’ve been my whole career about what I do. Unfortunately, I’m not the kind of person who works only for money. It has to have some real substance for me to do it,” she told The Associated Press in 2013.
Besides her Oscar nomination, she won two Emmys for playing the 110-year-old former slave in the 1974 television drama “The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman.” A new generation of moviegoers saw her in the 2011 hit “The Help.” In 2018, she was given an honorary Oscar statuette at the annual Governors Awards. “This is a culmination of all those years of haves and have nots,” Tyson said.
She was one of the recipients for the 2016 Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest civilian honor. At that ceremony, President Barack Obama said: “Cicely’s convictions and grace have helped for us to see the dignity of every single beautiful memory of the American family.”
“Sounder,” based on the William H. Hunter novel, was the film that confirmed her stardom in 1972. Tyson was cast as the Depression-era loving wife of a sharecropper (Paul Winfield) who is confined in jail for stealing a piece of meat for his family. She is forced to care for their children and attend to the crops.
The New York Times reviewer wrote: “She passes all of her easy beauty by to give us, at long last, some sense of the profound beauty of millions of black women.” Tyson went on to earn an Academy Award nomination as best actress of 1972.
In an interview on the Turner Classic Movies cable channel, she recalled that she had been asked to test for a smaller role in the film and said she wanted to play the mother, Rebecca. She was told, “You’re too young, you’re too pretty, you’re too sexy, you’re too this, you’re too that, and I said, `I am an actress.’”
In 2013, at the age of 88, Tyson won the Tony for best leading actress in a play for the revival of Horton Foote’s “The Trip to Bountiful.” It was the actress’ first time back on Broadway in three decades and she refused to turn meekly away when the teleprompter told to finish her acceptance speech.
″‘Please wrap it up,’ it says. Well, that’s exactly what you did with me: You wrapped me up in your arms after 30 years,” she told the crowd.
She told The AP afterward she had prepared no speech — “I think it’s presumptuous” — and that “I burned up half my time wondering what I was going to say.” She reprised her role in a Lifetime Television movie, which was screened at the White House.
In the 1974 television drama “The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman,” based on a novel by Ernest J. Gaines, Tyson is seen aging from a young woman in slavery to a 110-year-old who campaigned for the civil rights movement of the 1960s.
In the touching climax, she laboriously walks up to a “whites only” water fountain and takes a drink as white officers look on.
“It’s important that they see and hear history from Miss Jane’s point of view,” Tyson told The New York Times. “And I think they will be more ready to accept it from her than from someone younger”
New Yorker film critic Pauline Kael offered her praise: “She’s an actress, all right, and as tough-minded and honorable in her methods as any we’ve got.”
At the Emmy Awards, “Pittman” won multiple awards, including two honors for Tyson, best lead actress in a drama and best actress in a special.
#RHOA: Kenya Moore Reveals Marc Daly's Reaction to Her Nude Photo on RHOA!
Season 13 of The Real Housewives of Atlanta has served up a surprising selfie. In the clip above, Kenya Moore's pal LaToya Ali shares — at a group dinner, no less — that the beauty queen had sent her a scorching nude photo. The clip shows the ladies' reaction to the pic, but one Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen viewer wanted to know how Kenya's estranged husband Marc Daly feels about the skin-baring snap.
"Does Marc know, or care, that you're sending nudes to LaToya?" the audience member asked, during Kenya's January 24 appearance on WWHL. The 50th birthday girl didn't have too much tea to spill on that.
"Uh, he doesn't know and I don't think he cares," Kenya said. Plus, "you couldn't see anything," she protested. "[The photo] was just the side of my body. So, you couldn't really see anything. So I don't know if that qualifies as a nude."

Michael Strahan tests positive for COVID-19!
Pro Football Hall of Famer and “Good Morning America” host Michael Strahan has tested positive for COVID-19, according to an announcement made on the show Thursday morning.
Strahan is currently not experiencing any severe symptoms from COVID-19, according to a source who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity Wednesday because of medical restriction issues.
TMZ first reported about Strahan testing positive. Strahan, 49, who also provides analysis on the “Fox NFL Sunday” pregame show, appeared remotely during last Sunday’s NFC championship game. Strahan, though, also did remote appearances during much of the season for the network’s Thursday night games to not conflict with his GMA schedule.
Strahan has been absent from the ABC morning show all week and it remains uncertain when he will be on again.
He has been a part of “Good Morning America” since 2016 and has been a fixture on Fox's NFL coverage since retiring after the New York Giants won the third of their four Super Bowl titles during the 2007 season.
In April, fellow GMA anchor George Stephanopoulos tested positive for COVID-19.
Seahawks Waive Chad Wheeler And Issue Statement Encouraging Him To Get Help After Domestic Violence Arrest!
The Seattle Seahawks released a statement Wednesday announcing offensive lineman Chad Wheeler was no longer with the team following his domestic violence arrest Saturday.
The Seahawks also encouraged Wheeler to “get the help he needs.”
Wheeler sent out tweets Wednesday apologizing for his actions and announcing he’s stepping away from football. His full statement read:
“Events happened over the weekend that transpired from a manic episode. I am deeply sorry for the pain and suffering that I have caused to [the victim] and her family.
“I apologize profusely for the turmoil that I have caused to my family, teammates, fans and those closest to me. The most important thing right now is that [the victim] gets the care she needs and I get help. Both are happening.
“It is time for me to walk away from football and get the help I need to never again pose a threat to another. I cannot express my sorrow or remorse enough. I am truly ashamed.”
Gregg Bell of the Tacoma News Tribune reported the Seahawks waived Wheeler, and a team official told ESPN’s Adam Schefter he would not be returning to Seattle.
Wheeler, 27, was arrested Saturday on charges of domestic violence and assault. Content Warning: Details surrounding Wheeler’s arrest are graphic and contain descriptions of his alleged assault.
Wheeler reportedly threw his girlfriend on a bed and choked her until she was unconscious. When the woman woke up, Wheeler allegedly said, “Wow, you’re alive?” The woman locked herself in the bathroom and called 911. Officers found Wheeler standing next to the woman. He was reportedly uncooperative when officers tried to arrest him at first.
The woman told officers the assault began after Wheeler told the woman to bow to him. He reportedly attacked the woman after she refused. The woman also told police Wheeler is bipolar and has not been taking his medication.
The Seahawks released a statement Tuesday saying they were “gathering information.” A day later, Wheeler was released.
Amanda Gorman To Recite An Original Poem At Super Bowl LV Pre Game Show!
After capturing the hearts of millions with her poem, “The Hill We Climb,” during President Joe Biden’s inauguration, 22-year-old poet Amanda Gorman will take on another large stage by participating in the Super Bowl LV pregame show.
The National Football League (NFL) announced that Gorman, the newest IMG Models signee, will recite an original poem before Super Bowl LV, nationally on CBS and the in-stadium pregame ceremony.
The Los Angeles native’s poem will honor three individuals chosen by the NFL as honorary game captains for the football game on Sunday. Among those chosen were Trimaine Davis, a Los Angeles teacher, Suzie Dorner, a Tampa nurse, and James Martin, a Marine veteran.
“These heroes are symbolic of the thousands of health-care professionals, educators, and veterans throughout our country who continue to care for, heal and support those in need during this pandemic,” the NFL said in a statement.
Along with an impressive pregame ceremony featuring singers Jazmine Sullivan and H.E.R., fans can expect just as equally spectacular a halftime show starring singer The Weekend.
“We’re gonna use the stadium to present the show in a way that it’s never been presented before,” he said. “But it is absolutely a live, live show inside that halftime stadium in more places than you would expect.”
Halsey is pregnant, expecting first child with Alev Aydin: 'Surprise!'
Halsey is going to be a mom! The “Without Me” singer, 26, revealed on Wednesday she’s pregnant by sharing three photos from a recent maternity shoot. It appears Halsey’s expecting her first child with writer and producer, Alev Aydin, as she tagged him in the post.
“Surprise,” she captioned the bump-baring images.
“Heart so full, I love you, sweetness,” Aydin commented.
“I love you!!!!! And I love this mini human already!” Halsey replied to him.
Aydin also re-posted the announcement on his Instagram Story with two heart emojis.
Halsey has been open about her reproductive health, including a previous miscarriage.
“It’s the most inadequate I’ve ever felt,” she told the Guardian last year. “Here I am achieving this out-of-control life, and I can’t do the one thing I’m biologically put on this earth to do. Then I have to go onstage and be this sex symbol of femininity and empowerment? It is demoralizing.”
The “You Should Be Sad” singer was diagnosed with endometriosis, undergoing surgery years ago after feeling like a “prisoner in your own body.”
According to Mayo Clinic, endometriosis is an often painful disorder in which tissue similar to the tissue that normally lines the inside of one’s uterus grows outside of it. Endometriosis can cause infertility, but Halsey told the Guardian she received positive news that motherhood is “looking like something that’s gonna happen for me. That’s a miracle.”
Whitney Houston's Epic 'Star Spangled Banner' Rereleased With New Artwork!
30 years ago to this day, Whitney Houston's performance of the "Star Spangled Banner" at Super Bowl XXV raised the bar for the national anthem forever.
In honor of the milestone anniversary, RCA Records has rereleased the classic 1991 performance, which was performed alongside The Florida Orchestra, onto digital service providers with a new interpretation of the artwork for the single. If you’re a music history buff, you already know that Houston’s rendition was certified platinum by the RIAA and hit the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100. Proceeds from the single raised over $1 million for military families and veterans of the Persian Gulf War.
Aside from delivering patriotic responsibilities during the NFL showdown, Houston's version was loaded with significance, especially for Black America. Her musical director, Rickey Minor, helped Houston churn out a gospel leaning rendition for the country amid the launch of the Persian Gulf War. "Her gospel inflections claimed it for African Americans, many of whom felt a connection to it for the first time. … No one said Whitney wasn't black enough,” the star's former assistant, Robyn Crawford, wrote in her 2019 book, A Song For You.
As Esquire pointed out, the gospel take on the national anthem was almost derailed by NFL executives who thought the rendition would be over the top. According to whispers, they asked that the song be redone, but Houston's father reportedly pushed back. After the number, she went to watch the game, found out later that the world wanted to purchase a copy of the performance and the rest is history.
"They say the national anthem is one of the hardest songs to sing, but it gets a whole lot easier to use those notes when you think about the many men and women risking their lives in the Middle East," Houston said at the time of the track's release.
Married to Medicine: A New Cast Member Joins in on the Drama As one is Let Go!
Married to Medicine is almost back — and with a brand new cast member.
The Bravo series will air its season 8 premiere on Sunday, March 7, featuring new addition Anila Sajja, a fashion blogger and wife of Dr. Kiran Sajja.
"Anila lives a fabulous life working hard and playing harder," her bio reads. "During her spare time, Anila enjoys time with her family and friends, Bollywood dancing, traveling, working out and, of course, shopping."
The returning cast members include Dr. Jacqueline Walters, Dr. Simone Whitmore, Dr. Heavenly Kimes, Dr. Contessa Metcalfe and Toya Bush Harris. Rounding out the group are friends of the cast Lisa Nicole Cloud, Quad Webb and Kari Wells.
For the upcoming season, Anila introduces herself and meets her fellow cast members.
"I'm not just a doctor's wife," she tells the cameras. "Have you watched The Devil Wears Prada, but like a good version of it?"
"You work?" someone then asks her, to which Anila responds by sharing that she's a blogger.
"I didn't think that was a job," Heavenly says.
Later in the clip, the cast is shown taking on the mission of distributing COVID-19 tests during the March on Washington in August, an event commemorating the 57th anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr. delivering his "I Have a Dream" speech.
"This is the most significant medical mission we've ever done," Jackie says.
"57 years ago, when Dr. King and them came, they didn't have Black doctors like you all," the Rev. Al Sharpton tells the cast during a dinner prior to the event.
Though they are busy with their work as frontline health workers throughout the pandemic, the cast still makes time for drama — both with each other and in their relationships.
"He's got other women that are sending him naked pictures," Kari says in the clip, seemingly referring to Contessa's husband Scott, who is then shown looking at some photos of a woman on his phone.
"They don't cheat because of us, they cheat because of them," Contessa later tells her costars.
Season 8 of Married to Medicine premieres on Bravo on Sunday, March 7 at 9 p.m. ET.
Kim Kardashian Has an ‘Exit Plan’ in Place for Kanye West Divorce!
Kim Kardashian “began talks” with high-power divorce attorney Laura Wasser in July 2020 to determine a strategy amid her marital struggles with Kanye West.
The Skims founder, 40, and the Grammy winner, 43, sparked rumors that they were heading for a split after six years of marriage earlier this month following a “big fight” during the holiday season. As speculation about their relationship status continues to spread, Kardashian has sought the guidance of “her financial advisors to figure out an exit plan that would be best for her whole family,” the source says.
Kardashian and West exchanged vows in May 2014 and share four children: North, 7, Saint, 5, Chicago, 3, and Psalm, 20 months. While considering her options amid her ups and downs with the Yeezy designer, the reality star is hoping to divide their shared belongings evenly.
“Kim has had all of her and Kanye’s financials and properties ready to be split, it’s a very fair deal for everyone,” the source adds. “Kim has all of her assets and financials ready for when she decides to file officially. Friends thought she was going to file in September, but she’s holding out. That does not mean that everything behind the scenes is already done.”
The pair’s rough patch comes shortly after West showed up late to his wife’s private island birthday bash in October 2020 and was noticeably absent from photos of the Kardashian-Jenner family’s Christmas Eve celebration. Kardashian was later spotted without her wedding band on her finger. While fans anticipate the duo’s next move, a third source said that Kardashian and West haven’t been seeing eye to eye for some time.
“They have both been living separate lives for many months now. … Kanye isn’t as focused and doesn’t live in the real world,” the source said earlier this month. “Their world views no longer line up.”
As previously reported that Kardashian has had Wasser and her team on retainer for several months as she continues to work through her rocky romance with West. Members of the California native’s inner circle are “skeptical” that she’ll finally pull the plug but think going their separate ways could be what’s best for the couple.
“While they have a multitude of problems, friends on both sides think there is a chance this separation could give them a fresh start,” a fourth source explained earlier this month.
Rosario Dawson sells LA home for $2.3M following move to NJ!
Rosario Dawson is finally letting go of her West Coast life for good after selling her Marina Del Rey home for $2.3 million.
“The Mandalorian” star has formally moved across the country to live with Sen. Cory Booker in Newark, New Jersey. The two began dating at the end of 2018.
Dawson, 41, first bought the Los Angeles bachelorette pad six years ago for $1.83 million.
The 2,562-square-foot home, built in 1997, includes three bedrooms and four bathrooms. It was designed as a modern Mediterranean home.
The three-story house is newly renovated with a Sonos sound system and a remodeled kitchen with stainless-steel appliances. The yard has an outdoor shower, a crystal-clear saltwater pool, a hot tub and a waterfall.
Rosario Dawson sells waterfront LA Home for $2.3M to move in with Corey Booker
The primary suite includes a walk-in closet, a fireplace and a private balcony. The rooftop overlooks the scenic Ballona Lagoon canal.
Dawson boasted about her excitement moving to New Jersey over the summer to live with Booker, 51. The two hadn’t seen each other in months following the start of the coronavirus pandemic. Dawson adopted a then-12-year-old girl in 2014.
“I’m going to New Jersey. I’m moving to Newark,” Dawson told Kevin Smith at the Mooby’s Pop-Up in Los Angeles. “It’s time. We were thinking about moving in together anyway, but especially during all of this, it’s been really intense.”
“I’m excited,” she added.
Michael B. Jordan Says He Would Return For ‘Black Panther 2’ If Asked To!
Michael B. Jordan says he would be down to come back for Black Panther 2 if requested.
Jordan, 33, sat down for an interview with People and discussed his partnership with International WELL Building Institute and its WELL Health-Safety Rating. While chatting, he also opened up about Joe Biden’s administration and whether or not he’d be open to reprising his role as Erik “Kilmonger” in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s hit blockbuster film “Black Panther.”
When it comes to Black Panther 2, the actor says he would, without a doubt, return to set if asked. “That’s something that is very, very near and dear to my heart for a lot of obvious reasons,” he said. “[I] had a really tough year losing somebody close to me. And what that means for that franchise is it was devastating,” Jordan said, mentioning the sudden loss of iconic actor Chadwick Boseman.
“But being in that world in a character that I loved playing, and working with [writer/director Ryan Coogler] and all that good stuff, it’s family. We created a family over there,” he continues. “So to be able to be in that world again is something that, I think, will always be on the table in some capacity.” Black Panther producer Kevin Feige said it was “pure rumor and speculation” regarding Jordan’s possible returning, as “[Ryan] is just only in recent weeks sitting down at his keyboard and beginning to outline the movie.”
In the meantime, Jordan is gearing up to make his directorial debut for the upcoming “Creed III.” He’ll also be acting in “Without Remorse” and “Journal for Jordan.” He says he’s “extremely excited” about the chance to do an “intimate love story” mainly because he will be working with “the GOAT,” Denzel Washington. “Being able to be directed by [Denzel] is a blessing and such a learning experience for me,” Jordan says. “And also working opposite Chanté Adams, who’s a very talented actress coming out of Detroit, and being able to tell a love story, playing [a] real-life person.”
“That’s another thing: When you play real people … there’s a certain level of care and respect that you bring to it that it’s unlike anything [else] that you could really do,” he continues. Jordan also shared his perspective on Joe Biden and Kamala Harris’ entry into the White House. He said he is “looking for a positive outlook” and “anything beyond the last four years.”
“I think there’s a lot of work that needs to be done. I think there’s a lot of listening that needs to be done. And I think right now we have one of the best opportunities to really make some change and get things back on track,” Jordan continues. “We took a little detour, but it’s time for us to get back on track.”

Teacher Reassigned After Reposting Threats Against Nancy Pelosi On Parler!
A Florida teacher has been reassigned after posting hateful messages about Nancy Pelosi on the Parler app.
Art teacher Audrey Betancourt, who taught at Coral Way K-8 Center, spoke to Local 10 about being removed from the school following her comments on the platform. Betancourt says that she was not the one who made the comments.
“I never, ever, ever put my views on anyone or talk about politics,” Betancourt explained. “Nobody knows anything about my politics or anything like that.”
However, the Miami-Dade Public Schools, who confirmed that the educator was being investigated, says that she made the inflammatory comments. The principal at Coral Way ordered the teacher to stay home on Tuesday.
While Betancourt denies making political comments, she does acknowledge that her posts are likely what caused her to be reassigned.
“I felt that I lived in a free society, that I could feel something but as long as I don’t go out and commit that, I can say that. I’m allowed to say that.”
Parler has been shut down following the deadly Capitol riot on January 6th. The app is believed to have been a means of planning the attack by pro-Trump extremists.
Betancourt is said to have posted a video of the Proud Boys. In one post, she quoted Donald Trump‘s “fight like hell” speech, which he delivered in Washington D.C. shortly before the violence ensued. Another post shows a Trump van in Doral, which the teacher suggested could run over Antifa and Black Lives Matter protesters. She is also accused of forwarding a message from another user who said, “hang Nancy Pelosi.”
Betancourt defended this message by explaining that treason could be met with a punishment of jail or death. There is no evidence that Pelosi committed treason.
According to prosecutors, many of the violent mobsters who attacked the Capitol had intentions to capture and assassinate elected officials during the siege.
