The Daily Buzz For June 13 ☕πŸ“°☕

“Pose” Star Billy Porter for Gay Times Magazine
Billy Porter is on the cover of Gay Times Magazine for June 2019 and he doesn’t hold back. Here are some excerpts from the piece!

On Stonewall rebellion: “It started then and it continues now and to be part of that mission, to be part of that civil rights movement, is really important to me. I stand on the shoulders of my black folks who came before me and know what it feels like to be disenfranchised. It’s a continued call to action for me and I hope that everybody in the LGBTQ community can come together and continue to fight for equality. I hope that’s what I exhube.”
On when he came out in 1985: “I was trying to get out of my circumstances and remove myself from the trauma and the toxic energy that was my childhood and my early teenage development. It was very traumatic and it was homophobic – it was violently homophobic and I knew then that if I was going to survive, I was going to have to extract myself from that. I found the arts and I found the theatre, a community that embraced me for who I am, and as I went deeper and deeper into that community, I discovered we were in the middle of a plague and had to fight.”

On working in a heteronormative industry: “I’ve spent 25 or 30 years in this business trying to fit in because that’s what I was told. I was told in every community – even in my tribe – I was informed early that if I didn’t ‘fix’ myself and put on the extra layer of performed masculinity through the lens of the heterosexual normative construct, I would not be successful and not be able to work in the way I wanted to work. That I wouldn’t be taken seriously and a lot of those things were true for a very, very long time. Something inside of me understood that my authenticity was the only thing that made sense. I chose early on in my career that if I couldn’t be authentic in this show business world in the traditional sense of being a television actor, crossover artist, being a celebrity – whatever comes with that – if I couldn’t do it authentically then I didn’t want to do it because it would be a lie! I didn’t want to lie for the rest of my life. I got very used to being marginalised and being put in a corner; my talent, my gift, my passion – all of what I brought to the table being put in a box in a corner. When Pose came around, it was literally like, ‘Wait, we’re going to actually tell the real story?’ I’ve always had big dreams, but I didn’t even realise that I was not dreaming big enough. I didn’t realise that the information I had received had put a cap on my dreams – a ceiling – until I walked through that door and met Ryan Murphy. I met Steven Canals and I met you, and this project came to be. This experience has taught me to dream the impossible and that’s an energy and focus that we all need to take into whatever this next phase of what we’re doing right. Whatever is going on, we had to remember that anything is possible and dream the impossible. I am very much a person who believes in the law of attraction. You are what you say and you are what you say you are. Pose has really helped me change my language and dream the impossible and believe that we can change the world.”

“I always felt like – this was the messaging I received – that you as a black gay man are allowed to be this and that is it. You can be the best friend of the white girl or the white boy; you can bring up the rear or be the funny best friend; you can be the talented funny best friend; you can stop the show on the side, but when it comes to the ‘at what cost’ portion of the story or the human story, there was no space for that. I was not happy about it but very used to being plunged into those archetypes. I never imagined that I could be a black, gay, out leading man. I never saw that in my future. I never saw that because it never existed. When all of our dreams are spring-boarded off our dreams that we’ve already seen, it’s difficult to dream things. And then, to
move forward without hubris, knowing that is who you are. Something inside me always knew I was one of the first, but I see anybody that was succeeding in that way quite frankly. I kinda felt like I’m going to try, do it and keep going. But y’know, I’m going to have to butch it up if I want to be on TV. If I want to be in the movies, I’m going to have to make myself masculine enough so it’s palatable and stomachable for the masses.”
On his sense of style: “One of the instruments of silencing that I came across when starting is this idea of clothing. This idea of how you present. The first impression is what people see, right? We have a construct in our society that certain things mean masculine and certain things mean feminine and you can’t cross those boundaries and not be marginalised or ostracised for it, silenced or dismissed for those things. I’ve always had an outrageous sense of style and fashion. I’ve very often been laughed at for the kind of things I wanted to wear. This microscope of masculinity within the media. Men are under this microscope from the moment you hit [the red carpet] and everybody is looking to see if you slip up. One slip up and you’re a fagot, and you can’t be on that superhero show anymore. You can’t play that masculine part anymore, and nobody will believe that you’ll fuck a woman anymore. And so, I looked at the landscape and saw that these men are straitjackets. Literally ‘straight-jackets’. They can’t do anything without someone judging their fashion choice in relation to how they’ll get cast. When I came into this moment, I realised that it’s been very clear, to me, that nobody thinks I’m masculine anyway, and now I’ve got the job where that lens is no longer plausible and doesn’t matter. I’m Pray Tell on Pose; I’m queer, I’m out, I’m fabulous, I’m a leading man and I’m running shit. I don’t have to adhere to any of these rules and I can go onto these red carpets and play because it doesn’t matter. Y’all weren’t casting me as that anyway, and I still survived and I’m still here. So I need to do it the way I want to fucking do it! I didn’t even realise that there was any kind of gender-neutral dresses. I didn’t realise that was what I wanted to do until I was set free by actually getting this job, and then all the limits were taken off. You can do whatever you want!”
On the importance of authenticity: “We talk about authenticity and throw inclusion and authenticity around like we’re doing it. I showed up and I saw this community, specifically the transgender community. I realised that the T in LGBTQ has largely been absent from my knowledge and my consciousness. I just didn’t know how much I didn’t know and it awakened something in me because I saw these people and thought, their authenticity – as bad as it’s been for me – these people living inside their authenticity can get them killed every single day. Every single day, these girls walk out their house and onto the streets. They can be killed simply because somebody feels like it’s alright, nobody will give a fuck, anyway. These trans women can be executed simply for living inside a real kind of authenticity that is not popular. It really moved me because that’s the death of authenticity that I didn’t know I didn’t have, and I need to get it and I need to embrace it. One of the ways I do and I’m going to express that is by taking the chains of what I’m wearing. It feels very insignificant but simultaneously I realise now how important it is, really it is to… I don’t know, it’s blowing my mind and I’m trying to find the words for it because it never occurred to me that I was the first man to wear a dress to the Oscars. For real. It never occurred to me that going to the Met Gala in what I went to was a big deal. It’s literally me being me. It really is me being me and that’s so great because the layer of having to pretend to make other people feel comfortable is completely gone. It’s so freeing Janet, I can’t tell you!”

On what he would tell his 16-year-old self: “I would say that the first thing you must do, which I did, is extract yourself from the danger. Extract yourself from the people who don’t know how to love you. Extract yourself from anything that’s toxic. Change the narrative of, ‘I need the love of people, my mother, my father, my family to exist on the planet’. No! We don’t need acceptance, we don’t need tolerance, we need respect for our humanity. We demand respect for our humanity and we will give respect for everyone else so that we can all move forward. Everybody’s humanity is valid, even if we don’t understand it or like it. That’s what I would tell my younger self and anybody today that you must do. You must break free. It’s the only way you will survive.”

On his dreams without limitations: “OH BABY! I need to be The Head Bitch in Charge, hunni. I’m trying to be a mogul. I’m trying to be like Ryan Murphy, I’m trying to be like you! Yes, that’s what I wanted, but I thought, ‘You’re a fagot, you can’t do that!’ But yes, I can. Yes I can, and yes I will. I want to be the person. I want to be one of the people that is at the forefront of being able to be the Svengali that helps to make sure all the stories are told, and that all the babies are taken care of. If I can be a part of that energy, I’m good.”

#RHOA: Kandi Burruss Stuns In A Pink Bikini At 43 In New Family Photo
Kandi Burruss is giving fans just a glimpse at her bikini body in an adorable new family photo. The stunning Real Housewives of Atlanta star posed with her immediate family in a sweet new snap posted to her Instagram account on June 11, which showed the Burruss/Tucker family enjoying some quality time together during a trip to the beach.

In the upload, the RHOA star could be seen with her husband Todd Tucker and their two children – 16-year-old Riley and 3-year-old Ace – as well as her stepdaughter, 22-year-old Kaela Tucker. While Todd, Ace, and Riley all opted to go a little more covered for the family snap, Kandi and Kaela proudly rocked their bikinis for the sunny trip.
Burruss showed off just a little skin in her bright pink and plunging two-piece bikini, looking years younger than her actual age of 43 with braided pigtails in her hair and a pair of large black framed glasses on her eyes. As for Kaela, she opted for a bright neon yellow bikini look and large tinted sunglasses on her eyes while her hair was tied up into a large topknot on the top of her head.
In the caption, Kandi joked that she was posting the photo to let their friends and family know that they’re all okay after staying away from social media during their trip.

Kandi previously opened up about all the hard work that goes into her body as she enters her mid-40s.
Last year, the Xscape singer spoke out about her pretty dramatic weight loss following the birth of Ace in 2016, revealing that she’d cut out a lot of unhealthy things from her diet.
“I think it was a combination of two things. I was breastfeeding, strictly breastfeeding for a month-and-a-half,” Burruss shared of how she got her post-baby body back in shape while speaking to Bravo’s The Daily Dish.

“I give up my things that I really love, so sweets, desserts. I do not eat any desserts in the month of January. And I do not drink anything but water the whole month. No sodas, no juice, no anything but water,” Kandi then continued. “So I think the combination of doing that as well as breastfeeding, I think that’s why I lost so much.”

#Empire: Why is Lee Daniels throwing Jussie Smollett under the Bus? He cut off communication with Jussie Smollett after scandal.
The co-creator of "Empire" television series said he's "beyond embarrassed" by the Jussie Smollett scandal, and had to cut off communication with the actor after he allegedly staged a hate crime.
In an interview with Vulture published Tuesday, Lee Daniels was asked about Smollett claiming he was the victim of a hate crime that Chicago police said he allegedly staged.

Smollett was written out of the final episodes of the show's fifth season following allegations he faked a hate crime against himself in January. Daniels said he views Smollett like a son, and was "beyond embarrassed" after he initially supported him.
"I think that when it happened, I had a flash of me running from bullies. I had a flash of my whole life, of my childhood, my youth, getting beaten," he told Vulture.
He said he was "too busy putting out fires" to keep up with coverage on the case, and had to stop communicating with the actor.

"I had to detach myself and stop calling him, because it was taking away the time I have for my kids, the time I have for my partner. It was affecting my spirit and other shows, everything," he said.
Last week, Daniels also shot down a media report that implied Smollett would return for the sixth season of the show.
"This is not factual. Jussie will NOT be returning to Empire," Daniels said in a tweet to Variety after it reported an "exclusive" saying Smollett would return in Season 6.
The drama starring Taraji P. Henson and Terrence Howard will end after the sixth season.

On Monday, the NYPD's Special Victims Division was investigating the alleged incident and obtaining video from the bar and anywhere else that would help the investigation

Tamar Braxton Announces New Show and Film titled ‘Gangalnd’
Tamar Braxton has inked yet another TV show! But it’s not the talk show with Steve Harvey’s production company that we’ve been waiting for. Fans might remember Harvey offered Braxton her own show just after she was shockingly fired from The Real back in May 2016, ahead of the talk show’s third season.
While her Tamartians have been waiting patiently for Harvey and Braxton’s talk show to be announced, she said that won’t be happening.
“It’s not, because of contractual reasons. We couldn’t get my network down to kind of free me of that. I’m waiting on my talk show too.”
Fortunately, she announced she has a new VH1 show in the works as she said her network has been “more lenient with other things.”
“I have a VH1 show coming up that got picked up for 20 episodes. I’m really excited about it. So they’re being a little bit more lenient nowadays.”
The details of the show still aren’t known, but she confirmed the news on Instagram.
Braxton also added that she just wrapped a movie called Gangland.
“It’s kinda like a musical sort of. But it’s really, really good and entertaining. I’ve always been into acting. I started off with Tyler Perry, a lot of people don’t know that. I did Madea Goes to Jail. We had a great time. Ever since then I’ve had the acting bug. Then the reality show came and the music bug definitely never goes away.”

As for the reality show, WeTV’s “Braxton Family Values,” we’ve seen lots of drama between Braxton and her sisters.

She said, “It ain’t the camera that makes the difference. It’s everything else. It’s more like production. People want to see more of the dramatics and the shenanigans and I’m just really not here for it to be honest. I created it and formed it with my ex-husband. I just felt there was a need for African-American women to show their truths. And to be all in different walks of life but still have one common goal… denominator, and that’s family. And I just thought it was important. We’ve worked on it… 10 years later… and we’re still number one on the network. We’re coming back for another season.”

“It was necessary for women to get on TV and get along and not throw glasses at each other.”

Are you ready for Tamar to have a new show?

Cory Booker Hints He’ll Propose To Rosario Dawson!
Cory Booker might not be the next single President after all. While it seems like we just found out about his romance with actress Rosario Dawson a few months ago, he’s already considering popping the question as he’s on the campaign trail to become the next President of the United States. He said during an appearance on RuPaul’s talk show,

“The swearing in isn’t until the 21st of January 2021. You never know what will happen between now and then.”

While RuPaul pointed out Booker is dating someone “very famous,” Booker corrected him and said his girlfriend is “very special,” referring to Dawson who was in the audience.
For now, Booker could be the first single U.S. President since 1886. None other than President Grover Cleveland held down that title. Before him, it was President James Buchanan in 1857.
Booker revealed he was dating in February. He confirmed the mystery woman was Dawson in March as he gushed about her during an appearance on Ellen.

“As our relationship grows, it’s difficult. But she is a deeply soulful person and has taught me a lot of lessons about love already and sometimes you show the greatest strength when you’re vulnerable. She really has this nurturing spirit that’s made me more courageous, not just in the love I project and want to see in our country, but I think in our own personal relationships to love more fearlessly. I’m very, very blessed to be with somebody who makes me a better person.”
Dawson also confirmed their relationship just days before.
“He’s a wonderful human being. It’s good to spend some time together when we can. He’s very busy.”
As for a possible proposal, she said,
“I have no idea. I am just grateful to be with someone that I respect and love and admire so much.”

So I see Wendy Williams likes Jail Bait? Meet her' 27-Year-Old Convicted Felon Boyfriend
Just days after the talk show host said she was seeing a "very sexy" younger man, Bossip identified him as Marc Tomblin, a 27-year-old convicted felon, who, per his Linkedin, is a financial investor and blogger. The North Carolina native was convicted of robbery with a dangerous weapon and breaking and entering in 2012, according to state records obtained by the entertainment news site. He served fifteen months for his crimes and was released in 2014.

Marc and Wendy reportedly hit it off on her recent trip to Los Angeles. The soon-to-be divorcΓ©e gave fans a sneak peek of her new boo on Instagram Monday (June 10) sharing a cropped photo of her relaxing with him while poolside. "Last night was the most beautiful sunset in Sherman Oaks with special people. Thank you, California! You've won me over! I'll be back for the Hip Hop Festival in August," she captioned a picture of her holding Marc's leg as he held her hand. Wendy also added a few funny and revealing hashtags that shed some light on her new relationship and "new life": "#oldenoughtobeyourmother #verysexyman #mynewlife."

Since then the two have been spotted out in New York City. TMZ even caught up with Wendy and Marc during one of their many NYC outings on Tuesday (June 11) and asked the talk show host what she thought of Marc's criminal past. "I am a 54-year-old grown ass woman. I know what I’m doing," she told the photog. "Look, my husband had a full baby with a woman he was involved with for 15 years… where I was cooped up only to be a show pony. Now, I’m living my life."

As fans know, Wendy filed for divorce from her husband of 22 years, Kevin Hunger in April — a decision that was reportedly sparked by his alleged longtime mistress having his child in March.

A Second Suspect Arrested In Dominican Republic For David Ortiz Shooting
A second suspect has been arrested in the Dominican Republic for the Sunday night shooting of former Boston Red Sox designated hitter David Ortiz.

Ortiz was shot in the back at close range as he sat at a streetside bar and lounge in the Dominican capital of Santo Domingo. Doctors said he suffered damage to his liver and intestines, and underwent a six-hour, emergency surgery at a Dominican hospital before being flown into Boston on the Red Sox private plane Monday night.

According to the Associated Press, Eddy Vladimir Feliz Garzia, the driver of the motorcycle, remains in custody along with another man, Erick Montilla. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
A spokesman for prosecutors in DR said FΓ©liz Garcia was charged as an accomplice in an attempted murder. His lawyer, Deivi Solano, told the AP that Feliz Garcia had no clue what was about to happen when he picked up the gunman. ‘‘He didn’t know what they were going to do. He’s a fan of David’s,’’ Solano said. Feliz Garcia was quickly stopped and beaten by onlookers at Dial in the chaotic aftermath of the shooting.

Authorities originally said Feliz Garcia, 25, was the shooter but revised that to say he was actually the driver of the motorcycle. However, authorities have not revealed to the AP whether the shooter is among those who were apprehended.
Two others were wounded in the attack, including television host Jhoel Lopez, who was struck in the leg by the same bullet that hit Ortiz. “It was the act of a hired killer,” Lopez, Ortiz’s spokesman, told Diario Libre, a Dominican newspaper.

David’s wife, Tiffany Ortiz, gave a statement to the media thanking fans for the outpouring of support but also asking for privacy. “I want to thank everyone for the outpouring of support and love that we have received during this incredibly difficult time,” Tiffany Ortiz’s statement said. “We ask for privacy as David works toward recovery.”

Rumors have swirled on social media that Ortiz was shot as an act of revenge for having an affair with a drug lord’s wife and another rumor implied a Dominican police officer had been involved in the shooting. However, the Dominican Nation Police have since taken the step of issuing a statement saying those reports were “categorically” false.   “Our institution has no link to the incident,” the department said.

OJ Simpson No Longer Wants To Discuss Death of Ex Wife Nicole Brown. He says My Family & I Have Moved On!
One acquitted murder case, nine years in prison former NFL Hall of Famer OJ Simpson is keeping a low profile, and living like a semi-regular 71-year-old in Las Vegas. He recently opened up about life 25 years after his acquittal from the murder of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown, and her friend Ron Goldman.
OJ says that his life has entered a “no negative zone,” and despite a British movie being made – he no longer feels the need to discuss Nicole’s June 1994 murder. He said: “We don’t need to go back and relive the worst day of our lives. The subject of the moment is the subject I will never revisit again. My family and I have moved on to what we call the ‘no negative zone.’ We focus on the positives.”

After serving almost a decade in prison on robbery and kidnapping charges, OJ continues to live in Las Vegas.
“The town has been good to me. Everybody I meet seems to be apologizing for what happened to me here.”

He gave a vague answer when asked whether or not he believes his conviction was fair:
“I believe in the legal system and I honored it. I served my time.” He comments on how he spends his time after once being a multi-millionaire. He said:

“I’ve been to Florida two or three times to see the kids and my old buddies in Miami. I even managed to play a game of golf with them. But I live in a town I’ve learned to love. Life is fine.”

However, the friends and family of the late Nicole and Ron keep their alive. Ron’s sister, Kim Goldman, is launching a 10-week podcast called “Confronting: O.J. Simpson,” in which she will interview detectives, attorneys, and even jurors from the case – continuing to allege that OJ is guilty of the murders. Kim said:
“Closure isn’t a word that resonates with me. I don’t think it’s applicable when it comes to tragedy and trauma and loss of life. I don’t suffocate in my grief. But every milestone that my kid hits, every milestone that I hit, you know, those are just reminders of what I’m not able to share with my brother and what he is missing out on.”

#BARBZ Nicki Minaj Returns With Cryptic 'Megatron' Tweet
Nicki Minaj has remained quiet on Twitter in recent months, with her last tweet dating back to March 25. Minaj broke her silence on the platform on Wednesday (June 12) with a cryptic tweet.

"MEGATRON," she simply wrote in all-caps, sending the Barbz into a speculatory frenzy.

Could Minaj be gearing up to launch into the next era of music? Minaj previously rapped about Megatron being a nickname for herself on Future's 2018 track "Transformer." "Some call me Nicki but some call me Megatron/ I'm stoppin' bags and I don't need a red octagon," Minaj rhymed.
Meanwhile, Minaj has been a little more active on Instagram, sharing photos as recently as late May.

Khloe Kardashian Apologizes To Tristan Thompson’s Ex Jordyn Craig From The ‘Deepest Parts Of Her Soul’
Khloe Kardashian‘s relationship with Tristan Thompson seemed to be shrouded in karma considering the fact that he allegedly abandoned Jordyn Craig while she was pregnant with his son to be with her.
In new court documents regarding child support, Jordyn claims she suffered “serious complications” during her pregnancy due to the foolishness she endured with Tristan and his new relationship.
This brought an enormous amount of negative, unwanted attention and stress into my life, and more critically, into my pregnancy.

My obstetrician ordered me to be on bed rest due to high levels of stress that eventually caused me to have serious pregnancy complications.
Although, Khloe Kardashian appears to have lost Tristan the same way she got him, she took to social media to set the record straight and apologized to Jordyn from the “deepest parts of her soul” for starting a relationship with the NBA baller under false pretenses.

Peep her posts below:
It’s always easier to empathize and apologize when you’ve experienced the same pain that you’ve knowingly or unknowingly caused someone else.

The Spice Girls are getting an animated movie
The Spice Girls are finally making another comeback as a full group — this time, in an animated feature. The Hollywood Reporter reported today that Paramount Animation is in the early development stages of creating a new Spice Girls movie.

Currently, all five members of the original group — Melanie Brown (Scary), Emma Bunton (Baby), Melanie Chisholm (Sporty), Geri Halliwell (Ginger), and Victoria Beckham (Posh) — have signed onto the project. Paramount Animation president Mireille Soria told The Hollywood Reporter that the group “had an idea that [Paramount has] been developing” and that they are “very involved” in the process. The film will bring back Spice Girls classics in addition to new songs.

Simon Fuller (So You Think You Can Dance) will produce, with screenwriting duo Karen McCullah and Kiwi Smith writing the screenplay. The film is a part of Paramount’s upcoming animated feature slate, which includes The SpongeBob Movie: It’s a Wonderful Sponge (May 2020) and Rumble (July 2020), which is based off of Rob Harrell’s graphic novel Monster on a Hill.

Miley Cyrus Apologizes For 'Insensitive' Comments About Hip-Hop
Miley Cyrus has once again shared apologies over accusations of cultural appropriation and this time the pop titan went directly to the comment section of YouTube to sound off.

In a video titled "Miley Cyrus Is My Problematic Fav...Sorry," which was shared in late May, user As Told By Kenya (Kenya Wilson) spent a half hour explaining just why she is a massive supporter of Cyrus, while simultaneously calling her out for appropriating Black culture, particularly after her 2017 Billboard cover story. "I love that because it's not, 'Come sit on my d*ck, suck on my c*ck.' I can't listen to that anymore," Cyrus explained of her love for Kendrick Lamar's HUMBLE at the time. "That's what pushed me out of the hip-hop scene a little. It was too much 'Lamborghini, got my Rolex, got a girl on my c*ck' — I am so not that."

In the video blog, Wilson goes on to hold Cyrus accountable for her insensitive comments, but reveals that our extremist culture makes it difficult for celebrities and fans to be conflicted about their opinions. Cyrus recently caught wind of the video and responded with a lengthy reply, admitting that the remarks were part of her own privilege.

"Just watched your video. Thank you for giving me this opportunity to speak up. Being silent is not like me at all. I am aware of my platform and have always used it the best way I know how and to shine a light on injustice. I want to start with saying I am sorry," the 2019 iHeartRadio Music Festival performer wrote. "I own the fact that saying … 'this pushed me out of the hip hop scene a little' was insensitive as it is a privilege to have the ability to dip in and out of 'the scene'. There are decades of inequality that I am aware of, but still have alot learn about. Silence is apart of the problem and I refuse to be quiet anymore. My words became a divider in a time where togetherness and unity is crucial . I can not change what I said at that time , but I can say I am deeply sorry for the disconnect my words caused. Simply said ; i f**ked up and I sincerely apologize . I’m committed to using my voice for healing , change , and standing up for what’s right. Miley"
