Miguel Covers ‘FAULT’ Magazine, Talks Prince, Future Collaborations and More
With his 2015 album Wildheart being lauded more as a fan favorite than a commercial success, Grammy Award-winning artist Miguel is undaunted by either, and celebrating a continuously inspiring career.
Now on spot tour dates, and with upcoming festival performances, including the UK’s Wireless Festival, the singer/songwriter covers the new issue of London based FAULT magazine.
In the feature, Miguel talks about returning to his middle school and surprising the kids with a performance, being compared to Prince and the impact of icons, the trouble with political correctness in the news and social media, future collaborations and much more.

ON MIDDLE SCHOOL PERFORMANCE: “It was so much fun and the kids there are so talented. It’s great to see my old school and the talent that’s coming from my city. Going back to encourage those kids that was the purpose. I think they had as much of a good time as I did.”
ON COMPARISONS INCLUDING PRINCE: “I think we’re all standing on the shoulders of giants. Especially at this point in time, we’re learning from and building upon things that have already occurred, that have already been dreamed up. Being compared to Prince, it’s a tremendous compliment. I think it’s more about people being aware and exposed and really understanding the music then they’d see there’s a lot more to it.”
ON WHAT INSPIRED WILDHEART: “It was more me revisiting my life and my memories. I was remembering growing up and my dad doing everything he could to pick us up on the weekends to take us to Venice Beach, and being downtown and seeing all the broken dreams.”
ON CAREER LONGEVITY: “I really just owe it to the fans. “WildHeart” wasn’t a crazy commercially successful album. It was for me but as far as the way that it’s perceived it wasn’t known as that. To debut at whatever on the charts, that’s great, but as far as being a popular album it wasn’t. The fans made it important and the fans give me longevity.
I had a conversation with J.Cole, that’s my boy, like ‘what would you attribute all this shit to?” And he said “man, this is serving my fans.’ It’s our responsibility to the people who found our music to continue to build that relationship. An artist creates according to what he thinks the world should be. Unfortunately not everyone is going to agree with that, but the ones that do, those are the ones you wanted in the first place. The ones that agree with you then you just keep giving them what is real to you.”
ON FUTURE COLLABORATIONS: “I think it’s just artists that I love and respect. The ones that have a conviction that outweighs anything. I’d love to write with Taylor Swift.”
ON POLITICAL CORRECTNESS AND BEING MISINTERPRETED: “It’s weird we’re sensitive about the wrong things but desensitized to things that matter. Someone is shot and killed and it only matters for five days and there’ll be weeks and weeks of conversation about why an artist said something about….I mean it doesn’t fucking matter. I think our priorities of what matter are so skewed because of the way the media and that interaction works. Unfortunately it’s not the time for imagination or creativity in a way that’s not obvious. Now all of it really boils down to is what’s getting the most attention and what we can turn into money. It’s the simple fact that in a world where our attention spans are whittled down to be so finite that attention is the ultimate currency.”
#RHOA: Kenya Moore Continues To Play Coy About Pregnancy News On WWHL
Sunday's guests on Watch What Happens Live were The Goldbergs star Wendi McLendon-Covey and Real Housewives of Atlanta’s Kenya Moore. Sadly, Kenya was on her best behavior tonight. We need a new season to get going so she kicks up the tea spilling into high gear!
Kenya starts off by confirms that she and Matt are still going strong and he’s in the audience tonight. Andy shows a photo of Moore Manor and she confirms that she’s moved in – and that Sheree Whitfield has not moved into Chateau Sheree, so she wins the bet. Kenya gives Sheree credit, though, saying that it’s “coming along” and that it’s three times the size of Moore Manor, so obviously it’ll take a little longer.
Andy says that Kim Fields announced she isn’t coming back to The Real Housewives of Atlanta and Kenya says “can I drink to that?” (It’s actually not 100% true since Kim backtracked a bit a few weeks later!) Andy asks if she reached out to Kim. “yeah, no.”
Andy asks if she’s seen NeNe’s comedy show yet. She says that she was invited but the show was three hours away and she couldn’t, but she plans to see it.
Andy wants to know if Kenya can spill any tea on Cynthia and Peter’s relationship status, “They’re having some issues that may not be resolved.” Where is our dishy Kenya tonight??!!! She is way too laid back this time!
Andy has them weigh on in a few Bravo-related storylines. When it comes to Yolanda and David Foster divorcing, Kenya feels like the rest of us: that it was so out of the blue and made viewers feel cheated out of seeing the process of the split. “They’re all happy one minute and then were getting a divorce the next. We didn’t get to see it play out.”
A caller asks Kenya when she thinks Matt will pop the question. She laughs and says “Well, since he’s in the audience I can’t really answer that, I don’t know.” Andy asks if she’d consider proposing to him and she says no way.
Andy then says “I take it you’re not pregnant since you’re drinking?” She says it’s water and that he’ll “have to wait like everyone else” to find out…
Andy asks Kenya what she thinks about Beyonce using “Twirl on haters” in her Formation album. Kenya is happy and says she still has dreams of a “Beyonce/Keyonce album.”
For the record: Wendi had some hilarious opinions on the Housewives (she’s a huge Bravo fan), so I highly recommend watching the full episode!

New Music: Eric Benet – Sunshine
R&b star Eric Benet has just released his new single “Sunshine”. He teased fans with a snippet of the song a few weeks back, but now we can hear it in full. Along with a stream of the new single, we also get to check out a studio performance video for “Sunshine” which features his daughter India Benet.
“Sunshine” features Benet’s signature falsetto and is a perfect groove just in time for the Summer. It is the lead single from his upcoming 8th studio album which he’s currently wrapping up and is scheduled to release this Fall 2016.

OH? Beyonce Accused of Making ‘Ivy Park’ Line In Sri Lankan Sweatshop
Beyonce’s new high-end sportswear line, Ivy Park, for Topshop is accused of being made in a sweat shop. According to the Sun,
"a Sri Lankan seamstresses that worked on the line, was paid only $6.17 a day. A 22-year-old sewing machine operator told the newspaper that she lives in a 100-room boarding house near the factory in the town of Katunayake. “All we do is work, sleep, work, sleep,’’ she said."
Page Six reports,
"Arcadia Group, the company that owns Topshop, told the Sun it has strict rules for its suppliers. “When customers buy our goods, they have to be sure [the products] have been made under acceptable conditions. That means without exploiting the people who make them.” Arcadia added that all suppliers must provide “decent working conditions.” The Sun acknowledges that the factory — owned by a Sri Lankan tycoon named Mahesh Amalean and his two brothers — is not breaking any laws. And even the poorest of Amalean’s workers make more than the country’s minimum wage. But the newspaper quotes Jakub Sobik, from a group called Anti-Slavery International, saying, “This is a form of sweatshop slavery.’’"

Kim Kardashian Stuck With Saint West Baby Weight: KUWTK STAR Can’t Drop Extra Pounds
It has been 6 months since Kim Kardashian gave birth to her baby boy Saint West, but the Keeping Up With The Kardashian star doesn’t seem to be any closer to her post baby weight. Kim was spotted leaving Epione Skin Care in Beverly Hills, California on May 12, 2016, and despite the warm weather – she is still rocking coats three sizes too large to cover up her body.
Actually, it looks like she is wearing her husband Kanye West’s signature camo jacket – which is less than flattering on him, and her.
Since Kim Kardashian gave birth to Saint West, it’s no secret that she is struggling to diet and lose the baby weight. And, she has been seriously struggling. In her defense, if we had to deal with Kanye West on a regular basis, we would probably be hiding under the covers and binge-eating comfort food too. Surely, the stress of her marriage can’t be helping her keep on track with her diet and exercise.
Here’s our beef with Kim Kardashian. We’re all human, we all have kids, we all gain fifty pounds, and we all have a tough time getting our post baby bodies back. The part that is upsetting is that Kim Kardashian is constantly posting selfies, naked ones at that online, and clearly doing some creative editing to appear much smaller than she actually is in real life.
If she were being honest on social media, then she wouldn’t have to wear XXXXL coats to cover up her extra pounds when she steps out in public. It’s all fun and games now, what is she going to do when July or August hit and that sun is scorching?

Prince’s Guitar Used in ‘Cream’ and ‘Gett Off’ Up for Auction
*One of the custom-made “yellow cloud” guitars used by Prince to perform such tunes as “Cream” and “Gett Off” is headed to the auction block.
Heritage Auctions in Beverly Hills is behind the sale, which is scheduled to begin June 24 with an opening bid of $30,000. The instrument was one of several custom guitars Prince used in the 1980s and 1990s.
“I’ve been a Prince fan since I was a little kid, and that guitar always stuck out to me because it was super cool and stylish,” said current owner Richard Leece, who bought it over a year ago from Heritage Auctions.

The instrument features a serial number and comes with a letter of authenticity from Prince guitar technician Zeke Clark, who noted that the guitar’s neck was broken in France in 1994 and later repaired.
“Unfortunately, as morbid as it is, when people pass, their items become more valuable,” Leece said. “I think something as valuable as this could be is risky to continue to have in my possession.”
Other Prince items up for auction in Beverly Hills include record sales awards and an original demo tape featuring the songs “Just as Long as We’re Together,” “My Love Is Forever” and “Jelly Jam.”
Another “yellow cloud” guitar is currently on display at the National Museum of American History in Washington, D.C.

'Allowing my anger to get the better of me, I've managed to insult millions of people without reason'
*Well look who’s apologizing.
After catching much heat for her over the top and racist tweets from the public and then being banned (suspended) by Twitter, Azealia Banks is now apologizing to the “world” for her racist and homophobic tweets.
It was last Thursday that Banks’ Twitter account was taken away from her after she attacked Zayn Malik, calling him a “n*g*a” and “f*gg*t” and his mother a “dirty refugee.” On top of that she was also lost her gig at an upcoming London music festival. The afore mentioned penalties apparently knocked some sense into her. At least enough for her to claim she’s sorry for her “unacceptable” behavior.
Dear World, Now that the immediacy of the infamous incident has worn off, I’ve had some time to decompress & take a more rational assessment of things. I want to extend my sincerest apologies to the world. Employing racial/sexual slurs/stereotypes in attempts to make fun of or degrade another person or group is absolutely unacceptable and is not fair or fun for anyone. Allowing my anger to get the best of me, I’ve managed to insult millions of people without reason. And for that I give my deepest apologies.

As Gossip Cop points out, Banks’s verbal assault directed at Malik was just the latest in a string of offensive remarks she’s made on Twitter. Other celebrity targets of the singer have included Beyonce, Nicki Minaj. Lady Gaga, Iggy Azalea, and even Sarah Palin, to name a very few. Her suspension, however, was greeted with delight. News of Banks being shut out of Twitter led to the trending topic “#AzealiaGotSuspendedParty.”
So far her apology hasn’t meant a whole lot to Twitter because (as of this posting) her account is still turned off.
New Hip Hop/Pop: Ariana Grande feat. Nicki Minaj – ‘Side to Side’
Following collaborations with Future and Lil Wayne, Ariana Grande reunites with her fellow TIME 100 honoree Nicki Minaj on “Side to Side.” Over an island riddim, Ari makes “deals with the devil,” while Nicki taps into her Trini roots on her verse.
“I give zero fucks and I got zero chill in me,” she raps before declaring, “I’m the queen of rap and young Ariana run pop.”
The two previously collaborated on “Bang Bang” and “Get On Your Knees.” “I love Nicki so much. She kills it every single time. I just love working with her. She’s such a strong female and I think her punchlines are so great,” Ariana told 102.7 KIIS FM.
