SUPER BOWL 50: Denver Broncos, Carolina Panthers advance to Super Bowl 50
The Denver Broncos advance to Super Bowl 50 with a 20-18 win against the New England Patriots in Denver
The Broncos will face the Carolina Panthers, who beat the Arizona Cardinals 49-15 in Charlotte North Carolina. Peyton Manning isn't done just yet. Now, the 39-year-old quarterback has another chance to win an NFL championship
With Manning's two touchdown passes to tight end Owen Daniels and a late escape by the Denver Broncos defense, the Broncos defeated the New England Patriots 20-18 in the AFC Championship Game at Sports Authority Field at Mile High in Denver, advancing to Super Bowl 50.
"It's a great honor to be going back to the Super Bowl -- playing Super Bowl 50," Manning said. "I'm really looking forward to it. It's going to be a fun two weeks."
They now know their opponent: The Carolina Panthers, who beat the Arizona Cardinals 49-15 in the NFC Championship Game at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte.
Super Bowl 50 is February 7 at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California.
Broncos hang on
The Broncos led throughout the afternoon, but it was a nail-biter at the end, as a late comeback attempt by New England fell just short. The Patriots scored with 12 seconds remaining but couldn't convert on the two-point conversion to force overtime.
It also potentially was the final chapter of an epic rivalry between Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning and Patriots quarterback Tom Brady. Sunday was the 17th meeting between the surefire hall-of-fame quarterbacks. The match-up was pegged, appropriately, as Brady vs. Manning XVII. Manning still trails Brady 11-6 overall but improved to 3-2 against him in the playoffs.
This will be Manning's fourth Super Bowl appearance. His lone win was when he was with the Indianapolis Colts, which came in Super Bowl XLI on February 4, 2007, against the Chicago Bears.
Manning turns 40 in March, and while he had not revealed his future plans going into the AFC title game, there had been wide speculation that this season could be his last. Manning's numbers have dropped (he threw nine touchdowns and 17 interceptions in 10 games during the regular season, a far cry from his hall-of-fame worthy career stats), and his health and arm strength have been concerns. He missed six games this season with a partially torn plantar fascia in his left heel.
But Manning showed he has something left. He came out firing on Sunday, connecting with Daniels for a 21-yard touchdown pass midway through the first quarter. It was just the second passing touchdown at home this season.
Early in the second quarter, Manning found Daniels again for their second touchdown of the day, this one for 12 yards. Manning's line for the day: 17 of 32 passing for 176 yards and two touchdowns.
"There's no question this is a sweet day; this was a sweet victory," Manning said. "To me this victory sort of is a great example of what this entire season has been like. It hasn't been easy, it's been a lot of different people stepping up doing their parts at different times."
It shockingly was Brady, not Manning, who had some terrible numbers on Sunday.
Brady, who coming into this game had been playing some of the best football of his career and is one of the front-runners for the NFL Most Valuable Player award, was intercepted twice in the second quarter. His passer rating was a horrific 18.1 in the first half. Manning's, comparatively, was 103.8.
But you should never count out Tom Brady. Despite a putrid first half by the New England Patriots quarterback, Brady recovered in the second and almost forced overtime, finding tight end Rob Gronkowski in the back of the end zone with 12 seconds remaining.
But that's as close as they would get. Broncos cornerback Bradley Roby picked off Brady's pass on the two-point conversion attempt. Denver recovered New England's onside kick to seal the win.
"We could never play on our terms, so it was an uphill battle all day," Brady said.
Brady finished the day 27 of 56 with 310 yards and one touchdown.
This was Brady's 10th career AFC Championship Game, the most ever by any quarterback in the Super Bowl era.
Panthers dominate
Sunday's Cardinals-Panthers game marked the first time in NFL playoff history that two Heisman Trophy-winning quarterbacks started against each other. Panthers QB Cam Newton won the Heisman in 2010; Cardinals' starter Carson Palmer won in 2002.
As for the head-to-head match-up, it was lopsided.
The Panthers -- hosting the NFC Championship Game for the first time in franchise history -- jumped on the Cardinals early.
Following a 45-yard field goal by Graham Gano, Ted Ginn Jr.'s 22-yard run gave Carolina a 10-0 lead. Later in the period, Newton's deep pass hit Corey Brown for an 86-yard score to make it 17-0. Newton also added two scores with his legs. Before getting the rest of the night off once the game was out of hand, Newton finished his day 19 of 28 passing for 335 yards. He was responsible for four touchdowns (two passing, two rushing) and had one interception.
Carolina also showed why it led the NFL in the regular season with 39 takeaways, 24 interceptions and a +20 turnover differential.
Palmer was pressured into three first-half turnovers, fumbling twice and also failing to capitalize on the Newton interception, throwing a pick of his own in the end zone just one play later. He also threw two interceptions in the fourth quarter, including pick-six, but the game already was well out of reach by then.
In all, the Cardinals turned the ball over seven times. Six of those were from Palmer (two lost fumbles, four interceptions), who was 23 of 40 for 235 yards passing and one touchdown.
Well Boys get ready to fight it out in 2 weeks!
#RHOA: NeNe Says It Took A Lot of Prayer To Forgive And Reconnect With Cynthia Bailey
This week marked the return of NeNe Leakes on The Real Housewives of Atlanta. She dishes on how she got to the point of rekindling her friendship with Cynthia Bailey (and yes she unblocked her on social media!) and what she thinks about Kenya Moore being “Cynthia’s girl.”
On her renewed friendship with Cynthia, “When someone betrays you, it damages your trust and that’s a very hard thing to get past. People who know me know that I move on! I don’t try to fix broken pieces, although that was probably a bad thing. I’m a work in progress. It took a lot of prayer and long talks from loved ones in order for me to forgive and really do this with an open heart. So I felt like I was in a really good place in my life where I could start over with Cynthia and reconnect. I’m happy I did!”
On life since she left the show, NeNe says: “Since leaving the show I have been so focused on my happiness — just getting back to me! Doing the things that I love and being around the people that love me. I’m a happy, fun spirit and I felt I was losing that being surrounded by negativity. I also turned my focus to one of my first loves…acting! I’ve also worked on expanding my clothing line at HSN, and moving into my new home with my family.”
On what was going through her mind when Cynthia said Kenya was her girl? “When Cynthia said Kenya was her girl, nothing went through my mind at all. I know Cynthia pretty well now I think, LOL! Absolutely Kenya thought she was the queen once I left the show, but I must say, she wasn’t the only one. Wink wink!”
So Is Kenya The New Rhoa Queen? Should Nene Stick Around Or Just Drop In Now And Again?
#EMPIRENEWS: Uh Oh It’s FOR REAL! Lee Daniels Headed to Court Over $500 Million ‘Empire’ Lawsuit
Well we’ve told you about this before but now Lee Daniels is headed to court in the 500 million dollar lawsuit accusing him of stealing an author’s show pitch to create his mega hit ‘Empire”. Blasting the allegations by explaining he has never even heard of the man … and is demanding the entire suit be thrown out.
Last August, a man named Jon Astor-White filed a $500 million dollar federal lawsuit against Daniels, co-EP Danny Strong and 21st Century Fox, accusing them of ripping off his show idea to create ‘Empire’.
Astor-White explained that he shopped around a show entitled, “King Soloman’ back in 2007. The show featured Shaft star Richard Roundtree as a record label executive and focused on his family’s battle over the company. He even laid out who he wanted to star in the series including Kanye West, Alicia Keys and John Goodman.
He described the show as a mix between Dynasty, The Godfather and The Sopranos.
The writer faxed the show treatment around town but never received a response for his pitch. He said once Empire premiered on FOX, he immediately realized Daniels and FOX had stolen his story and claimed it as their own. He filed suit demanding 500 Mill in damages for the story theft.
On January 18th, Lee Daniels fired back, explaining that there are no substantial similarities between Empire and the man’s show pitch.
Daniels informs the court that the two works are vastly different in everything from plot, theme, characters, dialogue, sequence of events and even the setting. Astor-White’s story takes place in Hollywood while Empire is set in New York.
Further, he says that the man has failed to show any evidence of how Empire producers would have come into contact with the show pitch, especially since the man admitted he only sent it to 3 different people back in the day.
He also adds that if there are any similarities, they are not copyright-able due to them being so common. Daniels points out that the man’s pitch he sent around is so generic and broad that it only describes one scene that contains no dialogue, includes only a handful of thinly described characters and none of them are similar to those on Empire.
Daniels is demanding the entire 500 million dollar suit be thrown out immediately and the man awarded nothing from his complaint.

Mo’Nique Says She Doesn't Watch Oscars ANYWAY she’s OVER IT and you should be too!
Oscar winning actress Mo’Nique is getting in on the Oscars controversy for the lack of inclusion in the selection of this year’s nominees. The comedienne won the Best Supporting Actress award in 2010 for her role in Lee Daniels’ drama Precious. After her win, a firestorm of controversy began when she made claims that she was blackballed from the industry.
Now, she’s addressing this year’s controversy of lack of diversity and she’s responding to other celebrities who have decided to boycott the ceremony this year, mainly Will and Jada Pinkett Smith. Mo and her husband Sidney Hicks dropped by V-103 to chop it up with Big Tigger to give her perspective on the issue (and to promote their podcast "Mo & Sidney's Open Relationship").
The Bessie actress said the Oscars isn’t something she watches anyway, so she’s not up in arms about the boycott. You’ll recall, she said part of the reason she was blackballed from the industry was because she would not go out and campaign for the trophy. She said instead of “us” being worried about a gold trophy, we should be standing up against equal pay and equal treatment in Hollywood. She explained,
“The Oscars are not something I watch anyway…When we raise an argument about an award and we don’t raise the argument about the injustice on wages, we don’t raise the argument about the poor treatment that we get as human beings on sets, but we’re talking about a trophy.”
Hmph.
The Precious star then specifically addresses Will and Jada boycotting the 88th Academy Awards ceremony saying,
“In reference to Will and Jada, and I love them, they’ve already won. Will is one of the few multi-million dollar actors that is of color. Ten years ago, the word was that he was getting $20 million a film. If you’re getting $20 million a film, y’all have already won.
"Do we stand up over a gold plated trophy? Or do we stand up and say we need equal wages and equal treatment? Are we standing up now because it’s in your backyard? Because the Oscars was no different last year. The Oscars have not been any different for what…89 years?”
Tigger then chimes in and says, “They threw us a bone for 12 Years a Slave.”
Mo responds:
“But why do we keep wanting to get thrown a bone? Why do we want to keep saying ‘Can we please come to your party?’ Instead of saying, ‘We have a party over here and we welcome everybody, but we’re not begging to come to you party.’ I think it’s a bigger picture to be arguing over a trophy.”
She said black production companies have been around for years (i.e. Will & Jada, Oprah & Tyler Perry), but wonders why we haven’t started making more black films. She said we need the “power players” to make the noise and to create our own content so we don’t have to beg and plead to be apart of something that obviously doesn’t want to acknowledge us. Chingy Endorses Donald Trump … Then Withdraws Endorsement Hours Later
“Right Thurr” and alleged transgender woman lover rapper Chingy has something in common with Sarah Palin, Mike Tyson, Tila Tequila and Hulk Hogan: they’re all Team Donald. Chingy used to Twitter on Friday morning to endorse the controversial Republican frontrunner, writing:
We have no idea what “innerstand” means but whatever. Immediately after folks began slamming the Chingy on social media for his endorsement, he quickly backtracked, tweeting, “Everything I wrote has been taken completely out of context … but I’m trending though. LMAO … #NoEndorsement.”
We guess “I vote for @realDonaldTrump” is Chingy’s way of saying he’s not endorsing the entertainer turned politician? Not that his opinion matters much anyway, because you know what they say … so goes Rodman, so goes the election.
Oh? JUST MARRIED?! Keshia Knight Pulliam & Ed Hartwell Share Wedding Photo

The quickness of the wedding has folks wondering if this is actually the real deal...or maybe all for a movie? Hmmm...
Was this wedding a romantic "I can't wait to walk down the aisle" to you quickie situation, or were they already married at the time of the engagement announcement...like Big Tigger revealed weeks ago?
We will say, Keshia said on her Kandidly Keshia podcast that the wedding was a surprise to their friends who thought they were siply attending a New Year's party.
We're working on ALL the answers, but in the meantime, congrats to the couple!
Minutes after Keshia posted the photo, Big Tigger posted this:
