Weekend Box Office: 'Man Of Steel' Soars To $125 Million Debut

Since Man of Steel was actually a little front-loaded this weekend, it’s unfortunately going to matter whether or not you count that extra $12 million from the Thursday Wal-Mart screenings as part of the opening weekend or merely basically ‘bonus grosses’ to be counted exclusively as Thursday figures.   So bear with me, as this might get a little complicated.

Man Of Steel debuted this weekend for a 3.25 day total of $125 million.  If you count that whole figure as its opening weekend, then it bests the $116 million debut of Alice In Wonderland for the second-best opening weekend for a non-sequel behind The Hunger Games‘s $152 million.  It’s also, inflation and 3D bumps aside, that much closer to the $128 million debut of Iron Man 2 and becomes the 13th biggest debut ahead of the $125.1 million debut of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part I.  But if you count just the $113.1 million Fri-Sun total as its opening weekend, which I generally do not, that puts Man Of Steel just barely above the $110 million debut of Toy Story 3 for the June weekend record.

Obviously credit goes to Warner Bros’ marketing department, which cut a series of emotionally potent trailers that actually hid most of the big action beats, even if they (grumble grumble) spoiled nearly every major emotional beat found in the film. Even the last minute action-filled teaser (titled ‘You are not alone’) and the Nokia trailer were cut so quickly as to merely suggest action rather than give away specific scenes (although I’m glad I waited until after I saw the film to watch that Nokia trailer).  Warner Bros. also successfully kept expectations low, offering official predictions of a $75 million debut weekend while even rival studios dared only speculate as high as $100 million.  As such, the $125 million figure is now seen as ‘over performing’ and will be reporting as opening well above expectations. So for the moment, Man Of Steel has reaffirmed DC Comics as a viable brand for big-scale tent poles just as Marvel did with Iron Man five years ago.  So far, so good…

Hip Hop Sisters’ Among Four New Reality Shows at BET

BET is building up its unscripted pilots into development this year – including a reality show featuring MC Lyte, The Lady of Rage, Yo Yo, Smooth, Monie Love and Lil Mama attempting to relauch their careers.

HIP HOP SISTERS is a docudrama following the relaunch of six female rappers’ careers. MC Lyte, The Lady of Rage, Yo Yo, Smooth, Monie Love and Lil Mama join forces and declare themselves the Hip Hop Sisters. Their goal is to reclaim their titles as the Queens of Hip Hop — as they manage their drama-filled personal careers and lives and search for the next great female MC. MC Lyte joins Lemuel Plummer (Vindicated, The Sheards) as executive producer.

Baltimore Raven Torrey Smith & Fiancée Chanel Williams Reveal Their Engagement Pics

NFL superstar wide receiver Torrey Smith, who helped lead the Baltimore Ravens to victory at Superbowl 2013, is engaged to Chanel Williams.  And earlier today, the happy couple released their engagement pics to The Baltimore Sun.

They posed for pics at the famed M&T Bank Stadium where Torrey's road to victory began.

On her Instagram page, Chanel and Torrey paid homage to one of his famous teammates in the above pic.  She said, "Ray Lewis tribute! Lol"  Loves it!

Chanel also revealed that she'll officially become "Mrs. Smith" in exactly 30 days.

And in case you were wondering.....

Torrey did a great job at picking out a ring.  But, it's not the only big ass diamond in the family.

The Baltimore Ravens just received their Superbowl rings a few days ago.  He tweeted, "Thought I gave @libraladii a nice ring until I saw this...."

Congrats to the couple on their upcoming July wedding.

And just in case Torrey Smith looks a "little" different to you......

He cut off he dreds recently.

The ladies are looking beautiful on the cover of Upscale Magazine where they discuss doing better as a brand and cast mates that are no longer with the show.

Royce Reed Claps Back At Evelyn Lozada For Calling Her A Non Mother F****n Factor

Recently Shaunie O'neal, Evelyn Lozada and Tami Roman  was talking about why Jennifer Williams and Royce Reed won't be returning to the newest season of Vh1's "Basketball Wives Miami".

In the "Upscale" magazine interview, Evelyn Lozada says that Royce is a non muthafuckin factor and stated that having Royce on the show no longer made sense. Well, Royce Reed must've heard about that interview because she has clapped back at Evelyn via her Twitter page.

Charlotte Bobcats owner Michael Jordan hires his old friend Patrick Ewing as assistant coach. Sacramento’s new head coach Mike Malone was reportedly also wooing Ewing. Back in their playing days, Jordan got the best of Ewing in the biggest moments, from the tongue-wagging North Carolina freshman guard sinking the go-ahead shot against Ewing’s Hoyas in the 1982 NCAA Championship game to his Bulls consistently fending over the big man’s Knicks. The pair did hook up to bring up gold for the 1984 and 1992 U.S. Olympic men’s basketball team – and as Wojnarowski notes, in the 1996 animated movie Space Jam.

Considering the Bobcats suspect roster, It could be awhile before the pair bring that kind of success – the gold medal equivalent that is – to Charlotte.

Millionaire Producer Ralo Wonder The Reason Porsha Stewart Is Getting A Divorce

The divorce drama between Kordell Stewart and Porsha Williams-Stewart has intensified. Now there’s a new player added to the mix.

Media mogul and NASCAR team owner Ralo Wonder is said to have played a major part in the demise of Porsha and Kordell’s self-proclaimed picture perfect marriage. Mr. Wonder (no relation to Stevie) is also best friends with Mimi Faust’s  from Love and Hip Hop Atlanta new flame Nikko.

Word is Ralo and Porsha had a real steamy side relationship that Kordell got wind of but couldn’t prove it. It all may be coming to light since one of Ralo’s disgruntled business associates got a hold of Ralo’s cell phone with tons of evidence in it.

The associate is threatening to go to the media if he’s not paid money that he claims is owed to him.

Imagine if this person actually got his story sold somwhere. The skeletons would plummet out of the closet if this turns out to be true. We can guarantee Ralo and Porsha definitely do not want that to happen.

But wait, there’s more. Ralo is engaged to Crystal Mocahantas, who is rumored to be replacing one of the Atlanta housewives. Porsha and her divorce battle will only get worse if this information is released, especially after she claimed that Kordell changed the locks on her. If these two ladies ended up on RHOA together the ratings would be through the roof.

FIRST LOOK: Mariah Carey As "Hattie Pearl" In "The Butler"

Mariah Carey is among the A-listers who will be starring in Lee Daniels' upcoming film The Butler (August 16th).  And now, we've got a sneak peek at her character.  Mariah will be playing Hattie Pearl, and apparently, Hattie Pearl was a slave.  AND she worked in the cotton fields.

We're sure many folks are going to having comments about Mariah and someone of her....aesthetic....playing a "field" slave....but this IS a Lee Daniels' film.  It's supposed to make you question, wonder and debate.  Not just say "Bish please."

In the film, Mariah will star alongside Forest Whitaker, Oprah Winfrey, Cuba Gooding Jr, Lenny Kravitz, Robin Williams and Jane Fonda.

Meanwhile, Mariah, whose song "#Beautiful" featuring Miguel has put her back atop the music charts around the world, will release her 13th studio album on July 23.

Karrueche's Phone Gets Stolen!!!

According to Karrueche Tran's Twitter page, her phone was recently stolen. Not that phones being stolen aren't a big deal, but it's the fact that she didn't have a lock on her phone that's got her in an uproar! Want to know why? Because according to the word on the internet curb, Karrueche was busy twerking when her phone fell off her person. She didn't realize the phone was gone until she noticed the phone was no longer in her possession.

However, instead of thinking she lost the phone, Karrueche is adamant that a bitch stole her phone! Peep her tweet below:

Frank Ocean's Next Single "Super Rich Kids"

Frank Ocean has decided to make his next official single off Channel Orange.  And it's one of our faves--"Super Rich Kids" ft. Earl Sweatshirt.  It will be the fifth single off the album that dropped back in July.  The song was written by Frank himself and samples Mary J. Blige's "Real Love."  The single is scheduled for release on British market on March 11th, 2013 via Def Jam Recordings.  It likely will be a US single around the same time as well.

Falcons Player Loses House

Former NFL star Jamal Anderson took a beating on his Georgia mansion … TMZ has learned his primo crib was sold off at a foreclosure auction … for $225,000 LESS than what Jamal paid.

Jamal — who played for the Atlanta Falcons from 1994 to 2001 — bought the MASSIVE 10-bedroom, 9-bath crib way back in 1999 (when he had an NFL contract) for $1.225 million.

According to official records, Anderson defaulted on his mortgage … so the bank foreclosed the home and recently sold it at auction for an even $1,000,000.

It was a STEAL for the buyer … the pad is over 6,000 square feet, sits on 2 acres and is rockin’ a separate guest house, arcade room, media room, pool and spa.

In other Jamal news … TMZ has learned he just paid off that $1.1 million federal tax lien. Yay.

Jay-Z and Justin Timberlake  “SUIT & TIE” Video shoot

In the middle of shooting Justin Timberlake’s ‘Suit & Tie’ video, Jay-Z tweeted (his first tweet of 2013) a photo of him and Justin watching the Nets vs. Grizzlie’s game. 

The shoot took place in rainy Los Angeles and included a very dapper Carter and Timberlake.

A Big Party For ‘Big Rich Atlanta’

Sharlinda Parker with her twin sister Sabrina and daughter Kahdijiha were out at Atlanta’s Bottle Bar to promote the newest reality show, ‘Big Rich Atlanta,’ on the Style network.

The private party was to promote the new show. The show is about some of Atlanta’s wealthy socialites featuring mothers and daughters. The Parker’s are the wife and daughter of popular R&B group 112, Q Parker.

If you have seen the preview episode you won’t want to miss this show. ‘Big Rich Atlanta’ will air on Wednesday nights at 8PM on Style

Timbaland Sues For $1.8 Million Watch

Timbaland is still crying over that $1.8 MILLION watch that went missing two years ago (wouldn’t you be?) — and now he’s filed a lawsuit against his insurance company … claiming it REFUSES to cough up the cash to cover his claim.

According to a lawsuit filed against American Home Assurance Company last month, the music mogul claims he paid over $50,000 to take out a policy with AHA back in May 2010. Timbaland says the policy covered a slew of expensive items, including his Jacob & Co. 18K white gold watch, loaded with over 30 CARATS of diamonds!!!

In the suit, Timbaland claims he lost the watch in August 2010 and filed a claim with AHA — and even testified under oath that it was missing — but the company DENIED his request and hasn’t paid a dime.

But there’s a twist … this is the SAME watch Timbaland reported stolen two years ago — which is when his family called the cops … claiming he was so distraught by the loss they feared he might commit suicide. Timbaland was adamant he never planned to kill himself.

At the time, he told the L.A. County Sheriff’s department he felt “someone he knows” stole the bling and they opened an investigation.

In the suit, the rapper says he believes (and testified under oath) it was his two-and-a-half-year-old daughter who “picked [the watch] up and played with it until she became bored and discarded it somewhere.”

He adds, “It has never been found.”

Timbaland is suing for $1.8 million — the value of the watch — plus interest and attorneys’ fees.

Fan Gets Tackle-Hugged By LeBron James After Hitting A Half Court Hook Shot For $75,000

Let us set the scene for you. During a timeout of the Miami Heat/Detroit Pistons game, Fifty-year-old computer technician Michael Drysch from McHenry, Ill. was chosen to shoot a hook shot from half-court at a chance to win $75,000.

What happened afterwards was just completely awesome. The odds of making this trick shot in front of 20,000 people is truly one of the most difficult and nearly impossible shots to hit in all of basketball.

But there was Drysch, with one hand on a basketball from half court and took his hook shot heave towards the basket only to have it hit nothing but net to an eruption at the American Airlines Arena.

Drysch was elated, but nobody could've been more excited to see him hit the shot than LeBron James himself. The three-time NBA MVP ran towards the fan at halfcourt and hug tackled the guy like they both had just won an NBA Championship. It was one of those "sports is kind of awesome" moments that happens every once in a while.

"When he wound up I was like, 'Oh no, there's no way,'" James said after the game. "When it dropped, that was awesome. I would have probably air-balled that one in that situation."

"That was crazy," Heat guard Dwyane Wade said. "The place erupted. It was like it was when we won the finals."

What makes it funnier is that Spolestra was in the middle of drawing up a play when James sprinted out to celebrate.

"I heard the eruption, and I turned and I saw LeBron absolutely tackle him," Spoelstra said.

"I had no idea what was going on. That fan, while he'll love the $75,000, having that on video — LeBron James tackling you at half court in front of 20,000 — I think will be the longer-lasting memory."

A Few Washington Redskins’ Players Almost Get Catfished

A few Washington Redskin players almost get catfished, when they almost fell victim to a half naked girl on Twitter and Instagram named @RED_RIDN_H00D aka “Sidney Ackerman”

According to reports from NFL.com, Phillip Daniels, the Redskins’ director of player development, he has instructed several players not to talk to “Sidney Ackerman.”

NFL.com has learned that NFL security conducted an investigation into a situation involving a woman, known by the pseudonym Sidney Ackerman, who used pictures of an Internet adult entertainer, C.J. Miles, to establish dialogues with pro athletes.

According to multiple sources, the conversations occurred mostly through Twitter’s direct messaging function. But in some instances, “Ackerman” also sent separate photos of Miles to players’ cell phones, never suggesting the photos were not her own, as conversations endured on and off for months.

“If you think about it, a lot of them are single guys, and they see somebody who looks good in a picture or something,” Daniels said. “In many cases, it involves someone who is a fan of the team, so they’ll start talking about the team. You have to recognize that something just isn’t right.

“But you’re talking about a lot of guys who are single. I don’t fault the guys. I fault the people who are doing this crazy stuff, causing these problems.”

On multiple occasions, several Redskins players attempted to arrange meetings with “Ackerman,” but none of them succeeded, Daniels said. The numerous failed attempts led to suspicion, and Daniels then received some independent information about the possibility that “Ackerman” indeed was a fake.

Unlike Te’o, none of the Redskins players involved became emotionally attached to “Ackerman,” instead pursuing her out of nothing more than physical appeal, sources close to the situation said. “Ackerman” also sent at least one player a pornographic video of Miles, which she also claimed to be of herself. On certain occasions, “Ackerman” also doctored photos of Miles in an attempt to personalize them and provide the athletes with a sense that she indeed was the person she claimed to be.

Damn, this would of been a great episode on Catfish…..don’t you think?

Michelle Williams Rehearses For "FELA", ADDRESSES "Beyonce-Gate" On "GMA"

Destiny's Child member Michelle Williams was spotted singing and dancing during rehearsals for the touring company of 'FELA!' at the Pearl Studios in New York City.  She is playing the role of Sandra Isadore, who was Fela's African-American lover.  Maija Garcia, the tour director and choreographer, spoke of Michelle's addition saying,

"Sandra is our key for an American audience to look at Fela and understand a bit more where Fela may have been coming from.  And an American audience can very much identify with Michelle Williams because she's of our time. She really becomes a vehicle for people to learn about Fela and for people to understand why Fela is relevant in the United States."

She'll be starring alongside Adesola Osakalumiin (who plays Fela Kuti) during the 16-city run.

Michelle in "Fela!" at the Shakespeare Theatre Company in Washington, D.C., NOW, before stops through Miami, Atlanta, Cleveland, Dallas, Los Angeles, Seattle, Nashville, Tenn and other locales.

Chief Keef & His Mother Flash Gang Signs On

And now we know why these damn kids are like they are!! Chief Keef is back in the news yet again. An Instagram photo featuring Keef, his mother and cousin Fredo Santana flashing gang signs has started going viral.

The photo, taken late last year, features the Chicago rapper and family members all flashing the “O Block” sign, an offshoot faction of the violent Black Disciples street gang.  This latest bit of controversy adds to a growing list of instances involving the 17-year-old Windy City native, including the shooting death of a stepbrother and the "I Don't Like" rapper's current 2-month stint in juvenile detention sentence for parole violation.

Not much is known about Chief Keef's mother, save for a few scattered photos on the Web. It is known that the artist is not close to his father, Alfosno Cozart; this according to a report from DNAinfo.com Chicago after Keef's stepbrother Ulysses "Chris" Gissendanner III was slain.

Keef's long-rumored gang affiliations have been fodder for the media ever since the unsolved killing of rival rapper and alleged gang member Joseph “Lil JoJo” Coleman launched a police investigation.

With recent reports of a $6 million Interscope record deal on the line and a child support lawsuit from a middle school girl, Chief Keef's management team has more damage control to undertake after this latest snafu since parole boards don't take kindly to parolees kicking it with gangs.
