WNBA star, and Delawarean Olympian Elena Delle Donne comes out!

Oh my New Castle County! WNBA most valuable player and Team USA mainstay Elena Delle Donne revealed in an upcoming interview with Vogue magazine that she is gay.

Delle Donne and her longtime partner Amanda Clifton were engaged on June 2. She confirmed the news to reporters in Rio de Janiero ahead of the Olympic Games.

"It was just one of those articles where they came into my home, spent a couple days with me, and (fiancee) Amanda (Clifton) is a huge part of my life," Delle Donne said of the Vogue interview.

"So to leave her out wouldn't have made any sense. It's not a coming out article or anything. I've been with her for a very long time now, and people who are close to me know that, and that's that."

Although Delle Donne and Clifton had been together for some time, this is the first time that the Chicago Sky star has publicly discussed her sexual orientation.

 

"I decided I’m not at all going to hide anything," Delle Donne said Wednesday. "The biggest thing is respecting Amanda’s privacy as well. She’s not on the stage, she doesn’t need to be interviewed, and I don’t want her to have to feel that way.

"As the future keeps moving on, I don’t plan on having our relationship out in the public and all this media on it, but obviously there’s excitement right now because people see it for the first time."

Delle Donne joins Hall of Famer Sheryl Swoopes and collegiate star Brittney Griner in a long line of WNBA stars who have come out as gay.

WNBA Star Brittney Griner & Fiancée Glory Johnson ARRESTED For Assault & Disorderly Conduct

It was all love back in August when WNBA superstar Brittney Griner (above) proposed to her girlfriend (now fiancée) WNBA star Glory Johnson (below). Now, the two are fighting…and getting physical!

According to ABC 15 in Phoenix, Brittney and Glory got into a serious altercation at their house in Goodyear, Arizona, which escalated into the two attacking one another. The cops were called and the two were hauled off to the 4th Avenue Jail in downtown Phoenix at 4 a.m. this morning for assault and disorderly conduct. They were later released.

TMZ got a hold of the police report, which details how the fight went down. They report:

Brittney told cops the two had been fighting for days and were having serious "relationship issues."

As for the specific incident, cops say there were several people at the home when Brit and Glory began to argue -- and the fight turned physical.

Cops say Brittney admitted to throwing a dog bowl at the wall -- and then the two began fighting. Glory's sister eventually called police because people "couldn't get them pulled apart" and she didn't want anyone to get hurt. When cops arrived, officers say Brittney had several cuts -- and a bite wound. Glory was bleeding from the lip.

We wonder what type of “relationship issues” they’re having because just two days ago Brittney, a two-time WNBA All-Star, posted this heartfelt tribute to Glory on her Instagram, dubbing her as her Queen

Brittney plays for the Phoenix Mercury, and following news that she had been arrested, the team's Executive Vice President and General Manager Jim Pitman released a statement about the incident that reads, "The Mercury organization is aware of an alleged incident involving Brittney Griner. We are in the process of gathering additional information, and will have no further comment at this time."

Glory’s team (Tulsa Shock) also released a statement via their Twitter:

We hear they were planning to trek down the aisle to the alter next month. We wonder if this will just be one of their "bumps in the road" and continue with the wedding, or will they call it off.

Former WNBA star pleads guilty to attack on ex-girlfriend!

Chamique Holdsclaw, former WNBA star who played one year for the Atlanta Dream, pleaded guilty Friday to assaulting her ex-girlfriend and was sentenced to three months probation and ordered to pay a $3,000 fine.

Holdsclaw pleaded guilty to two counts of aggravated assault, criminal damage in the first degree, two counts of criminal damage in the second degree and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, according to a story in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Fulton DA Paul Howard said she was sentenced to three years probation and ordered to pay a fine of $3,000. Holdsclaw pleaded guilty in March and entered her plea in court on Friday.

Holdsclaw was arrested in November after she allegedly smashed WNBA star Jennifer Lacy's vehicle's window with a baseball bat and pulled a gun on her and shot into her vehicle. No one was injured. Holdsclaw later turned herself in where she was placed in the Fulton County jail.

“According to the terms of the plea agreement, Holdsclaw must avoid violent contact with the victim, complete anger management treatment, and perform 120 hours of community service speaking with youth about depression, overcoming adversity and the consequences of one’s actions. She must also relinquish all firearms," Howard said in a statement to the AJC.

Holdsclaw, 35, of Smryna, led the University of Tennessee Lady Vols team to several championships from 1995 to 1999 under star coach Pat Summitt. She was the No. 1 draft pick in the WNBA in 1999 by the Washington Mystics. She also played for the USA women's Olympic team in 2000, which brought home the gold medal from Sydney.

In her autobiography, "Breaking Through: Beating the Odds Shot after Shot," released in 2012, Holdsclaw said she suffered from depression and attempted suicide.

Her WNBA career started getting rocking in 2004 after some injuries and she began not showing up for games. Although she announced her retirement in 2007, she came back to play for one year for the Atlanta Dream in 2009.

Holdsclaw has been involved in the production of an Atlanta-based lesbian reality TV show titled "The Other Women of America."

Jennifer Lacy currently plays for the WNBA's Tulsa Shock. She was a star player for the Atlanta Dream in 2008 and 2009. Here’s hoping she can get her life and her mental issue together!

Former WNBA Star Chamique Holdsclaw Turns Herself In To Police Amid DRAMA!

Retired WNBA star Chamique Holdsclaw turned herself in Thursday evening after a warrant was issued for her arrest earlier in the day. It comes after an altercation with Tulsa Shock forward Jennifer Lacy became violent, according to Atlanta police. 

Holdsclaw was in the Fulton County Jail on a $10,000 bond for charges of aggravated assault, criminal damage to property and reckless conduct.

Here's what reportedly went down. Jennifer and Chamique bumped into each other at the gym and exchanged small talk.  Sources say Jennifer is the one who ended the relationship and Chamique had not been handling it well.

As Jennifer was leaving the gym, she noticed that Chamique (who battles clinical depression and attempted suicide in 2006) was following her Range Rover so she drove to a friend's house.  

Once they arrived, Chamique hopped out of her car with a baseball bat and began to smash the windows of Jennifer's Range Rover.  Afterwards, she took out a gun and fired a round into the truck before hopping back in her own car and speeding off. After the incident, Jennifer says Chamique desperately tried to contact her but she didn't respond because she feared for her life. 

Following the car attack, a warrant was issued for Chamique's arrest and she turned herself in on Thursday to the Fulton County Police Dept in Atlanta. Her bail was set at $10,000 on 3 charges: Aggravated Assault, Criminal Damages & Reckless Conduct.

 

News of the arrest sent shockwaves through the sporting community with many folks offering support to Jennifer and shaking their heads at Chamique (who also played on the gold medal-winning 2000 Olympic team).  

Jennifer issued a statement through the Tulsa Shock saying,

"I want to thank my family, friends, fans and Shock family for their concern during this difficult time.  I have never felt more love from my fans in supporting me." 

And a source close to Jennifer adds, "She really hopes that Chamique gets the help she needs."

Holdsclaw played 12 seasons in the WNBA and four years at Tennessee, winning three national titles in the mid-1990s.
