The Daily Buzz For May 25

Snapshot: Prince for Ebony Magazine June/July 2016
The June/July cover of Ebony Magazine will feature the late Iconic singer Prince for Black Music Month. Journalist for Ebony Mark Anthony Neal pinned a great article titled When a Race Man’s Color is Purple
Through his support of Black Lives Matter, contributions to the United Negro College Fund and other organizations, Prince was down for the cause

When an icon such as Prince Rogers Nelson transitions, he becomes a torch for both nostalgia and the power of music to unite, proving an artist could transcend race. To be sure, Prince—with songs that included “Controversy” (“Am I Black or White? Am I straight or gay?”)—messed around enough with the grays. The myth of his mixed-race identity even foregrounds his cinematic breakthrough with Purple Rain. But Prince’s choices were concessions to the prejudices of the marketplace, not the lived realities of race.
In ways that reflect his upbringing as a working-class Black kid from the American Midwest (an AFL-CIO statement after his death revealed he was a 40-plus-year member of labor unions), he was always a race man.
Prince came of age as an artist and celebrity in an era when the entertainment industry, if not American society in general, was still deeply ambivalent about Black male sexuality. If Teddy Pendergrass represented the apex of potent Black male sexuality in the mainstream in the late 1970s, it’s notable that the men who vied for that throne in the early ’80s were alternately more flamboyant and subdued. While Rick James, Michael Jackson and Prince all sought to be Black men who regularly adorned the bedroom walls of teenage American girls, Prince’s persona was the one that pushed nontraditional boundaries around gender, sexuality and race. READ MORE HERE

#RHOA: NeNe Leakes, Cynthia Bailey Reunite in L.A
Recently, NeNe Leakes and Cynthia Bailey were spotted at The Abbey in West Hollywood, catching each other up on the latest tea.
It’s reported  that the two "Real Housewives of Atlanta" stars' friendship seemed to be in a much better place.
"Both sporting ball caps, the two former frenemies seemed to be back on track with their once thriving friendship as they were spotted chatting at a private table while at The Abbey," the source stated.
Check out NeNe and Cynthia's photos from their night below!
After their falling out on season 7, NeNe and Cynthia tried to repair their once solid friendship on season 8. NeNe made a surprise appearance on the cast's trip to Jamaica, where she had to fight off Kenya Moore for the title of Cynthia's BFF.

Cynthia, however, thought this drama was a bit childish."It's pretty amazing that I'm in a love triangle about BFFs like high school," Cynthia told KTLA in February.
NeNe and Cynthia's girl time came shortly before filming for season 9 of "RHOA," allegedly, kicks off. Cynthia is expected to return, and fans are hopeful that NeNe will reprise her full-time role on the show, after quitting for season 8.

If both ladies are featured on season 9 together, it will be great to see them be so close again.
Are you happy to see NeNe and Cynthia be best friends again, or Nah?

#EMPIRE: Jussie Smollett Says Lee Daniels Got Death Threats After He Jokingly Said Goodbye to 'Empire'
In the strange and Get a Life files! The actor who plays Jamal sets the record straight on his joke about his fans-favorite character being written off on 'Empire' after fans got mad at the series creator.
Jussie Smollett confirms that Jamal will be back for "Empire" season 3. The actor feels the needs to assure fans of his return to the next installment of the hip-hop drama after the series creator, Lee Daniels, got death threats following an episode where his fans-favorite character was shot in the stomach and rushed to the hospital.

Smollett added fuel to Jamal's possible demise back then by tweeting, "I've thoroughly enjoyed my time w/ @EmpireFOX. I love you all. Truth. Time 2 make a record & some movies." He then backtracked on his message, "Listen 2 my words...I'll see y'all season 3. #IAintGoingNoWhere #IAintNoDumbHo #StillIRise #EmpireFinale #empire."

The actor later explained that he clarified his cryptic message after learning that his joke got serious real fast. "I was thinking my little core group of amazing fans would be like, 'What?' " he said at an event in Los Angeles. "But it just went so much further. There were calls about it, and Lee was getting death threats about it."

Jamal did survive the shooting, but he won't sing again until his family ends their feuds. "It changes him and impact him in huge and small ways," Showrunner Ilene Chaiken said. "As I said, physical pain, emotional trauma and all of the revelations that come to a head in this finale about who his family is and whether or not that's who they're destined to be." .

SERIOUSLY?

U.S. prosecutors to seek death penalty in South Carolina church shooting
CHARLESTON, S.C. Federal prosecutors will seek the death penalty for a white man accused of killing nine black parishioners at a historic church in Charleston, South Carolina, last June, the U.S. Justice Department said on Tuesday.
"The nature of the alleged crime and the resulting harm compelled this decision," Attorney General Loretta Lynch said in a statement.

Dylann Roof, 22, is accused of opening fire on June 17, 2015, during a Bible study session at Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church. The killings shook the country and intensified the debate about race in America.
He faces 33 federal charges, including hate crimes, obstruction of religion and firearms offenses. Authorities have accused him of holding white supremacist views, saying he targeted the victims because of their race.

His federal trial had been delayed while U.S. prosecutors decided whether to seek the death penalty. Defense attorneys have said he would plead guilty if he did not face the possibility of execution.
He also faces the state death penalty if convicted of the shooting.
Roof's attorney, Michael O'Connell, declined to comment on the prosecution's decision when reached by phone on Tuesday.

The government said in court documents it would prove a number of factors that would justify a death sentence, saying Roof had planned the killing and showed a lack of remorse.
Joseph Meek, Roof's 21-year-old friend who pleaded guilty last month to federal charges related to the shooting, said Roof had planned the shooting for six months and wanted to start a race war.
Federal prosecutors rarely seek the death penalty against defendants. Since the federal death penalty was reinstated in 1988, about three people a year on average have been sentenced to death, according to the Death Penalty Information Center, a nonprofit group in Washington.
The most recent death penalty carried out by the federal government occurred in 2003, when Louis Jones was executed by lethal injection for the kidnapping and murder of a 19-year-old Army private.

Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was sentenced to death in May 2015 for helping carry out the 2013 attack that killed three people and wounded 264 others at the race's finish line.

US judge rules Bill Cosby must stand trial on sexual assault charges
NORRISTOWN, Pa.-A Pennsylvania judge on Tuesday ordered entertainer Bill Cosby to stand trial on sexual assault charges over allegations that he drugged and assaulted a woman in 2004.

The ruling came after a preliminary hearing that Cosby, 78, attended in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, in which witnesses testified about statements that Cosby and his accuser, Andrea Constand, gave to police in 2005.
In court, Cosby responded with "thank you" when Judge Elizabeth McHugh announced her decision. She wished him luck.
Constand, a former basketball coach at Cosby's Temple University alma mater, is the only woman whose accusations of sexual assault have resulted in criminal charges against Cosby.
Once one of the most beloved U.S. entertainers, Cosby has been hit by a wave of sexual assault allegations from more than 50 women, although most of the cases are too old to be prosecuted. He has denied ever assaulting anyone.

Constand told police she was attacked as she lay on a sofa "paralyzed" by drugs the entertainer had given her, said a former detective reading from a transcript of Constand's police interview.
Cosby told her the pills would help her relax and "take the edge off." So Constand swallowed the pills, added a sip of wine and told the comedian that she trusted him, the former detective said.
Less than an hour later, according to Constand, Cosby sexually assaulted her as she lay incapacitated by the drugs she had taken, the former detective said.

Cosby's own 2005 interview with police in Cheltenham, Pennsylvania, where the purported 2004 assault took place, also was introduced as evidence.
Cosby admitted giving Constand 1-1/2 pills of the antihistamine Benadryl to relax her, Cheltenham Police Chief John Norris testified.
Cosby said Constand never told him to stop and was fully conscious during what he called the "petting" encounter, which he said involved fondling of genitals, Norris testified.

The hearing followed Sunday's Associated Press report of new revelations about Cosby from his 2005 and 2006 sworn depositions, including his admission that he gave drugs to a 19-year-old woman before having sex.

Soulja Boy DID NOT sign a  $400 Million Deal..
Well thirsty groupies you might want think twice before  getting with Soulja Boy….
The rapper is accused of lying about the deal and he also made ‘Donkey of the Day’ on Breakfast Club.
If you missed Souja Boy hinted about being rick as fuck because of his new deal click Here and Here to read.

Catch the tea below…The company spokeperson  Matthew Bird claims that CelebrityWorld.com clears up the misinformation..

People are going to want to see live dealers, versus it being automated dealers.” Bird explains. “Casinos will actually have virtual tables where the dealer’s dealing to virtual people while they’re at their computer or on a flight.”

All of this promise is not yet reflected in how much investors say the company is worth. According to CNN Money, World Poker Fund Holdings has a market capitalization of around $52 million. WPFH’s own annual report lists losses of over $400,000 last year.
So how is a company that is worth just north of $50 million going to pay out $400 million to their celebrity endorser? The answer is, they’re not. The deal, according to Bird, includes both stock and revenue-sharing.

“He really kind of jumped the gun” by using the $400 million figure, Bird says. “The deal is capped at $400 million, and it’s based on a forward-thinking valuation of the company. He’s young, he’s 25 years old. He got really excited, and he tweeted something he probably shouldn’t have tweeted. He was getting a lot of pressure from within the entertainment community, so he wanted to put a statement out. Obviously, the company’s market cap is at $51.8 million. There’s no way they could cut a $400 million deal. Endorsement deals are calculated on a lot of different factors. This is not a fully cash transaction.”

Russell Simmons Speaks Out On $20 Million RushCard Settlement
Last year, Russell Simmons‘ company UniRush LLC experienced a service outage during a planned migration to a new transaction processor, preventing over 130,000 RushCard holders from accessing or depositing funds.
The mogul, who described that experience as “one of the most devastating times in my adult life,” is finally speaking out about how he and his company got things back on track.

Russell revealed to HipHop DX: “I put aside $25 million. That was never the problem in my mind… I am going to spend a lot more money than that in the community, in my peacekeeping programs, in RUSH and art education. We’re gonna be in the community in a way that we’ve never been.”

Simmons has been dedicated to rebuilding the brand and seeking due justice for all of his customers. He offered free service to RushCard holders for five months, which sacrificed much of the company’s profits. He also revealed plans to pay $100 to $500 per claim, plus an additional $1.5 million in legal fees.

The Daily Buzz For Nov 4

Adele Stuns on Rolling Stone Cover without Makeup!
Her World Domination continues! Hello, gorgeous! Adele is Rolling Stone's latest cover star — and, boy, is she stunning without makeup. Inside the mag, the British singer-songwriter superstar reveals everything from her private life with her partner, Simon Konecki, and their 3-year-old son, Angelo, to what she really thinks about fame, and how she's been hitting the gym more often — not that she enjoys it!
Check out eight fascinating tidbits from her no-holds-barred interview:

1. Hello, What's Going On?
The "Hello" singer admitted that she's been a bit out of touch with what's popular in music, but is patiently waiting for Frank Ocean's next album. "I've lost touch with music. Not, like, all music. But I feel like I don't know what's going on in the charts and in popular culture," Adele, 27, said. "I've not lost touch with, like, reality. Just with what's current."

2. Fame Isn't All That Fun
Adele, who lives a very private life with Konecki and Angelo in Brighton, is at odds with her celebrity status. This especially became apparent when fellow Brit Amy Winehouse — something of a musical inspiration for Adele — died of an overdose in 2011. "People think I hate being famous. And I don't. I'm really frightened of it," she told the mag. "Watching Amy deteriorate is one of the reasons I'm a bit frightened. We were all very entertained by her being a mess. I was f—king sad about it, but if someone showed me a picture of her looking bad, I'd look at it. If we hadn't looked, then they'd have stopped taking her picture."
3. Sobbing for Stevie
Adele recalled the hilarious time she met Fleetwood Mac singer Stevie Nicks earlier this year. "[There was] snot everywhere," she said. "I'm not sure if I'll ever not feel a bit overwhelmed when I go to places where there are loads of stars. I always feel like I'm gonna get thrown out. Or it's going to turn out to be some, like, hidden-camera show. Like someone's gonna send me back to Tottenham."

4. She's Still in a "Serious" Relationship
Despite ongoing reports, Adele said that she and businessman Konecki are still very much together, but they simply have no plans to marry. "He's so supportive. And that takes a very big man, because I'm very successful at what I do. My last boyfriend was uncomfortable with how successful I was, and the fact that he had to share me with lots of people," she said. She also noted that their son is her "paradise" and she's brought him to "every f—king park" imaginable. "He's a little angel. All the things I really like about myself, he brings out in me, and he's the only person that tells me no. He completely rules me," she gushed. "He's the boss of me, and it's so funny for other people to watch, because I'm the boss of everything in my work life."

5. Chasing Pavements...in NYC!
Adele had plans in 2012 to move to the Big Apple, but everything changed when she found out she was expecting Angelo that year. "But I think actually the pregnancy was perfect timing in the end. It might've seemed like the most ridiculous time to have a baby, but I was starting to get a bit afraid of everything," she explained. "When I had him, it made everything all right, and I trusted everything because the world had given me this miracle, you know, so I became a bit of a hippie, an Earth mother."

6. Smoking and Booze No More
The slightly husky-voiced chanteuse revealed that she quit smoking. "I absolutely loved it, but it's not that f—king cool when I'm dying from a smoking-related illness and my kid is, like, devastated." In addition, she's cut back on alcohol. She joked: "I used to be able to drink anyone under the table and still be able to put on an all-right show. But with kids, hangovers are torture. They just know. They pick up on it and just go for you."

7. Diet, But Not Depriving!
Adele has slimmed down thanks to trips to the gym, but she'll never give up carbs cold turkey. "I'm not, like, skipping to the f—king gym. I don't enjoy it. I do like doing weights. I don't like looking in the mirror," she admitted. "Blood vessels burst on my face really easily, so I'm so conscious when I'm lifting weights not to let them burst in my face. And if I don't tour, you'll catch me [eating] Chinese!"

8. Taylor Swift's New BFF?
Adele may not be joining fellow chart-topper Swift's squad anytime soon. The "Skyfall" singer appeared amused when the word "squad" came up in discussion. "I've heard about a squad. I wish my squad was all supermodels. We are, in our brains. I guess I have my own squad," she said of her presumably un-famous posse. "It's not as interesting as some of the other squads that are around right now. But maybe Rihanna can be in my squad! That would be really cool. Oh, God. She's life itself, isn't she? I love her."

Pat Houston said she wanted to Send Bobbi Kristina to Rehab, then claims ‘but it came too late’!
Pat Houston, the aunt of the late Bobbi Kristina Brown, is speaking out for the first time, since her niece’s death. Pat was Whitney Houston’s manager, confidante and sister-in-law, and was very close to Bobbi Kristina. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Pat says she was working on getting her niece help before she was found unconscious in the bathtub at her home in Atlanta. She reveals that she had plans to send her to rehab in Georgia:

"When we really found out that Krissy was in trouble, we were really making plans to do something about it, but it came too late."
While Bobbi Kristina’s relationship to her family and Pat seemed strained, her aunt says that wasn’t the case.

"Where the world saw that she was angry and mad at me, she was texting me all along. I really tried to show her [that] I’m going to do this to let you know that you don’t have to be afraid of anything. I got you.’"
Pat also shares how she feels about reports that Bobby Brown plans to write a memoir,

"I don’t really judge when it comes to that, you know? It could be something that could be very healing for him. You really never know what a person is going through so if he feels that he wants to write, he’ll do it. But the only thing is you have to be very truthful. If it’s good or bad, you have to own it."
See Pat’s interview below.

Uh Oh? Tyson Beckford Gets Replaced In "Chocolate City 2"
Well Looky Looky is there a new black male super model on the rise?  Possibly.
Former Model Tyson Beckford has been replaced by newly minted model, Keith Carlos, in the upcoming sequel to Chocolate City.  Yes, some type of way that movie got the sequel treatment.

Carlos, who was the winner of the Tyra banks-produced show, "America's Next Top Model," reportedly lobbied hard for the role in the upcoming film and squeezed Tyson out.

Meanwhile, both men MAY have some history. According to sources, the twosome allegedly haven't had the best supportive relationship in the business.

Our source tells us:"Keith always looked up to Tyson as an older model, but Tyson always felt threatened by the comparisons. Before winning America's Next Top Model, when Keith had modeling shows and reached out, Tyson would ignore his calls".
Oh?  According to Chocolate City casting director, Vanessa Walkowiak, the replacement was due to the need of fresher meat.  Vanessa said in a statement:

"The producers felt that we needed some younger blood in the franchise. They love Tyson, but felt Keith brought everything Tyson had plus a certain youthful energy."

The first film went to BET.  Will you be watching the sequel?

Jeezy Wins Major Court Victory in $5M Lawsuit Filed by Former Business Partner
Rap mogul Jeezy won a major court victory in a $5 million lawsuit filed by former friend and business associate Kinky B.
Hiphopenquirer.com reports that Jeezy, whose real name is Jay Jenkins, grinned from ear-to-ear when the jury announced its verdict last week.

Jeezy and Kinky B, whose real name is Demetrius Ellerbee, were business partners for 20 years. Jeezy, 38, told the jury that Ellerbee diverted funds that were earmarked for their company, Corporate Thugs Entertainment (CTE). Jeezy said Ellerbee stopped paying him the 50% in royalties and revenues the two had agreed upon.
Jeezy provided evidence that shows the two men split a $1 million advance from Def Jam Records after he signed his first record deal.
But Ellerbee’s lawyer claimed Jeezy sent a letter to Def Jam ordering future payments to be deposited into a bank account that Jeezy controlled and that Ellerbee had no access to.

Ellerbee then alleged that the rapper violated Georgia RICO statute as well as illegal conversion of funds, according to Hiphopenquirer.
According to Jeezy, the two men never had a written agreement. But in Georgia, a verbal agreement carries as much weight as a written one.

You can watch videos of the courtroom testimony as well as view the evidence on hiphopenquirer.com, and decide for yourself if you believe the jury made the right call.

FIRST LOOK: Spike Lee’s EXPLOSIVE ‘Chi-Raq’ Trailer
I’ve been following production of Spike Lee’s highly anticipated (and controversial) film Chi-Raq. And the film will star a slew of celebs, including Jennfer Hudson, Samuel L. Jackson, Nick Cannon, Angela Bassett, Wesley Snipes, LaLa Anthony and more. And now, we’ve learned “Survivor’s Remorse” star Teyonah Paris will also star in the film.

Along with the first sneak peek we also get a synopsis of the plot. Lee's new flick will be an update on Aristophanes’ anti-war comedy "Lysistrata." The comedy is about the women of Athens who stop having sex with their husbands in an effort to bring the devastating Peloponnesian War to an end. Well, Lee will tell the story with a Chi-town twist.

Deadline reports: Set in the modern day south Chicago Urban war zone nicknamed Chi-Raq (as in “Iraq”) the story sees a group of women organize against the on-going violence after the murder of a child by a stray bullet, by withholding sexual access to the point that even strippers refuse to work. What follows challenges the nature of sex, race and violence in America and the world

Sounds very interesting.

Ja Rule: “Black Lives Need To Matter To Black Lives”
Ja Rule is rapper who has fought his fair share of battles on the mic — and in the courtroom.
But these days, the father of three is more interested in letting his positivity do the fighting for him. Growing up in Queens, Ja experienced racial profiling in his hometown, but when his own son admitted his fear of the police, he had to take an extra step back and explain the truth to his kin.
“If Black Lives don’t matter to Black Lives, who the fuck else is it going to matter to?” Ja asks sternly. “So I know it all starts with us. I want to see bigger movements. I don’t want to see Black on Black on violence no more. I want to see us root for each other, and I want to see us be happy to see the next man win. And it starts with messages like this that I’m sending. I don’t have no malice toward that Black man that I had drama with. I wish him all the success in the world.”

Rule is referring to his longstanding “beef” with 50 Cent, but now says he is way past that, and wishes nothing but good things for former nemesis. He wants to be a living example of how young Black men can put their differences to the side for a greater cause.

“The more positive, successful Black men we have, the more chance we have to break the cycle. And I think we should all get on board,” says Ja about setting good examples for the youth. “I think we should all root for each other and not tear each other down.”

He left off by sharing a powerful story about how a prison guard blatantly disrespected him while he served time behind bars back in 2011. The experiences left a lasting impression on the veteran rapper.

“A prison guard said to me while I was in prison. And these were his exact words: ‘Your kids are job security for my kids,'” explains an emotional Ja Rule. “I didn’t even know how to respond to him… other than punching him in the face, but you can’t do that. All I could say to him was, ‘Not my kids homey.'”
