#EMPIRE: Brotherly Love turned into a Family Feud!
Let’s talk about last night! Empire was something serious wasn’t it?
Let’s re-cap it. It’s not surprising to see Jamal worry about his 21st birthday even with everything that’s going on. But for him to not be aware of Anika’s disappearance shows? That’s a new level of self-involvement.
D-Major coming out via livestream was... unexpected. But has no one learned from the many fights have erupted every time someone related to Empire goes live online?
There’s the contractually obligated reference to Empire Exstream. But at least it tied into the story of Hakeem’s disappointment over the underwhelming response to his big 2-1.
Empire is primarily a soap opera, so the moments that everyone gets along will be few and far between. But I find the scenes where the Lyons band together, even if it’s just to trick Hakeem into thinking no one cares about his birthday, as compelling as the backstabbing. This show could use some reminding of the love part in the love-hate relationship.
Angelo’s worried about appearances, and about Lucious’ lingering hold over Cookie. Given all the flashbacks these season, he has a right to be worried.

The scene with Anika explaining to her parents how she plans to negotiate for her life and freedom is actually kind of chilling. But it’s also perfectly in keeping with her reliance on rational thinking.
Why is “bougie” the default type for an antagonist for Cookie? I’m willing to give Nia Long the benefit of the doubt, but so far, Giuliana isn’t bringing anything we haven’t seen before.
Jamal’s vacillation between his two lovers doesn’t seem to be inspired by his being torn between two viable/desirable options, but more like Empire’s writers not knowing what to do next. That is, his uncertainty feels merely incidental.
Tiana is the real star of Empire the label. Serayah has so much stage presence.

#NEWMUSIC Video: Daley feat. Jill Scott – Until The Pain Is Gone
Only one week after releasing his outstanding new single, “Until the Pain is Gone,” British vocalist Daley premieres the music video for the Jill Scott-featured duet.
Shot at the Spectrum Diner in stunning neon lighting, the visuals find Daley contemplating his relationship at the restaurant counter, while another couple deal with the emotions of their own situation.
Scott doesn’t appear in the video unfortunately, but singer/songwriter delivers a spellbinding performance in front of colorful bars of light, and in front of rain covered glass.
“Until the Pain is Gone” is the first single off Daley’s forthcoming sophomore album, The Spectrum, which is due out later this year.
The song hits close to home for Daley, “The song kind of came out of frustration I was feeling in a relationship,” he told Billboard. “The situation was going nowhere because we both weren’t really fully able to admit how we felt about each other and just be honest. And that situation didn’t really work out, but for the purposes of writing this song, I just kind of gave it a happy ending and idealized it a little bit.”
While writing the song, he felt Jill Scott would be the perfect collaborator on the record. “When I was in the studio writing the song, I just had a feeling, and I kept hearing Jill’s voice in the mix when I was writing. It was kind of strange, almost like it was asking for her energy.”

#HIPHOPNEWS: 50 Cent Backs Out of Chris Brown’s ‘Party Tour’
50 Cent won’t be joining Chris Brown’s “Party Tour.” With just hours until the trek kicks off, the G-Unit mogul has announced that he won’t be hitting the road.
According to TMZ, 50 never finalized his contract. He was set to be the lead guest on the tour once Breezy’s camp agreed on his fee. Tour promoter Live Nation even included him on the promo materials. However, things changed when it was time to sign the deal, as Live Nation and Fif were reportedly “hundreds of thousands of dollars apart” on the fee.
Negotiations ensued, but 50 reportedly called it all off two weeks ago. Promo materials featuring 50 were disseminated for at least a week after that.
TMZ ran their report with a headline that reads: “50 Cent: I Never Signed Chris Brown Tour Deal…Promoter Couldn’t Afford Me!” But Fiddy clarified that wasn’t the case and claimed that he is still shooting his movie, Den of Thieves, due in theaters next year.
“I would never say my friends can’t afford me,” he wrote. “This run wasn’t handled correctly, I’m still on set filming Den of Thieves.”
50 isn’t the first act to leave “The Party Tour.” Prior to his cancelation, French Montana was also featured on promo items before backing out of the run.

We've learned Don died Thursday morning of kidney failure at his home in Los Angeles. His wife, Barbara, was by his side.
Don rose to fame in the '60s ... he got a huge boost by making regular appearances on "The Tonight Show" and "The Dean Martin Show."
Rickles got Frank Sinatra's attention in Miami Beach when he performed a comedy routine, and the 2 regularly worked together throughout the years.

The Killer of ‘America’s Next Top Model’ contestant Mirjana Puhar sentenced
Mirjana Puhar receives justice.
Previously reported, in February 2015, fans of “America’s Next Top Model” were shocked by the news of the former contestant’s death and the circumstances surrounding it.
On Feb. 24, 2015, the Serbian model was fatally shot after two alleged robbers entered her boyfriend 23-year-old Jonathan Alvarado’s Charlotte, North Carolina apartment in hopes of raiding his heroine stash, multiple outlets reported at the time. The bodies weren’t discovered until three days later.
On Wednesday, April 5, a North Carolina jury convicted one assailant, Edward Sanchez, on four counts of first-degree murder. Sanchez was also found guilty of the murder of Rosool Harrell, 22, a Xanax dealer who was gunned down three days earlier. Sanchez was sentenced to life in prison without parole stemming from the killings — plus an additional 13-years for attempted murder. Meanwhile, a second alleged robber, 19-year-old Emmanuel Rangel, is set to stand before a judge in relation to the murders of Puhar and her friends, CBS reports.
At trial, prosecutors told jurors Puhar’s blood was recovered from Sanchez’s boots and clothing. In addition, Sanchez’s former girlfriend, Emily Isaacs, testified against him during the trial, recalling an instance where she and Sanchez drove more than 1,000 miles after the killings with the intent to cross the Mexican border. While Issacs too faces one count of first-degree murder, she has yet to stand trial.
Still, both Isaacs and Rangel have pleaded not guilty to the charges against them.
As fans of “ANTM” know far too well, Puhar won us over with her exotic beauty and street style during cycle 21 of the Tyra Banks-led reality competition, featuring both male and female contestants. She was eliminated in the 10th episode of the season, which aired its finale on Dec. 5, 2014.
“We are deeply saddened to learn of the tragic news about Mirjana Puhar. She was a vivacious and promising young woman. Our hearts and prayers go out to her loved ones,” Banks and fellow Top Model executive producer Ken Mok said in a statement at the time.
The winner of cycle 7, CariDee English, also issued her condolences stating, “I am deeply saddened by the news of our ANTM girl, Mirjana Puhar, being killed. Not only was she just starting her life, she left in such a violent way. I send love and healing to her family. To her fans and the public, because she was on ANTM, she was able to touch lives with her story. Please keep her beauty and personality in your hearts by remembering to celebrate her as a young woman who had the courage to chase her dreams for a better life.”

The 36-year-old actress has been very private about her new bundle of joy, but on Tuesday she shared a photo of her daughter, Ella-Loren.

Brenda Jones Of The Jones Girls Dead At 62
Sadly, this week another sibling member of a well-known group has died. Brenda Jones, 62, of the Jones Girls was killed when she was struck by several cars while on the way to visit her daughter in Wilmington, Delaware.
Ebony.com reports: According to her sister, Shirley Jones, the singer was struck on Monday, April 3, by several cars while attempting to cross the street while visiting her daughter in Wilmington, Delaware. Police are still investigating the incident, but her sister called Brenda’s death a heartbreaking loss.
“My sister was my life, she was probably one of the sweetest people you’d ever want to meet,” Shirley Jones told EBONY. “When we lost Val in 2001 that was a real big blow to the family….The bond that we had growing up was unique; it was so special.”
Shirley Jones continued, “The heartbreak is phenomenal. I can’t even imagine going on without her but life will go on. We’re strong and we’re going to persevere in her name. She was truly a wonderful person.”
Consisting of sisters Shirley, Brenda and Valorie, The Jones Girls served as backup singers for soul acts like Aretha Franklin, Lou Rawls, and Diana Ross before striking out on their own. The group’s self-titled 1979 debut album landed in the top 10 on Billboard’s R&B charts, resulting in the hit “You Gonna Make Me Love Somebody Else” and its B-side, “Who Can I Run To,” which was covered by Xscape in 1995.
Before disbanding in the early 2000s following sister Valorie Jones’ death, The Jones Girls recorded six studio albums and became a favorite among DJs, who still play their music–like the fan favorite, “Nights Over Egypt”–today.
Shirley Jones has kept recording and performing over the years, and she said her sister was thinking of returning to music as well.
“She did put out a record over in London a couple of years ago and I think it went to the top 10 on a couple of the soul charts there, but as far as performing she was trying to decide if that was something that she wanted to do again,” Shirley Jones said.
According to her sister, Brenda spent most of her time with her daughter while she was a traveling nurse, taking care of her granddaughter because “she absolutely adored her.” Shirley Jones said Brenda’s dedication to her family was constant, and her impact on the music world will forever be felt.
“She was probably one of the most talented women, her voice was like silk,” Shirley Jones said. “She loved people and she loved music, especially, and we plan to try to give her a homegoing that encompasses all of the things that she stood for.”
In addition to her sister Shirley, Brenda Jones leaves behind two daughters and a granddaughter. Her memorial will be held in The Jones Girls’ hometown of Detroit.

Israel Houghton’s Ex Wife Faces Foreclosure Of Family Home Over $90K Debt.
More trouble for Isreal and his former wife..Mr. Houghton owes a whopping $90k in debt. According to Bossip reports, The home where Israel Houghton lived with his ex-wife and raised three kids is now in default after the former mega-church preacher stopped paying the mortgage for almost a year, BOSSIP has learned.
Last week, Deutsche Bank sued Houghton and ex Meleasa to foreclose their one-time family home in Harris County, Tx. Court, contending that the father of five hadn’t paid the mortgage in several months.
The bank said that it notified Houghton about the missed payments and gave him time to fix the arrears. However, Houghton missed the deadline and the bank wants the whole mortgage amount paid or his family tossed out, according to court papers.

Stephen Belafonte Responds to Mel B's Abuse Allegations Amid Divorce Battle
Stephen Belafonte is responding to several allegations made by his estranged wife Mel B.
More than two weeks after filing for divorce following 10 years of marriage, the former Spice Girls member filed new court documents requesting a restraining order from her soon to be ex.
In the declaration she gave to the court, Mel B accused the 41-year-old producer of a variety of abuse and threats over the course of the marriage.
Today, Stephen's lawyers released a statement where they called Mel B's claims "outrageous and unfounded. "
"What matters most to Mr. Belafonte is the safety and well-being of his daughters and step-daughters. It's a shame that Ms. Brown elected not to proceed in a respectful and amicable fashion in this very private matter. In due course, Mr. Belafonte will be filing his response to the outrageous and unfounded allegations made by Ms. Brown, which allegations he vehemently denies," the statement read. "When the Court determines the truth, it will become clear that this entire charade was nothing more than a smear campaign intended to cover up Ms. Brown's own conduct during the marriage in light of her current involvement with a family television show, and in an effort to unfairly gain leverage both financially and with respect to custody of the children."
