The Philadelphia Eagles Officially Sign Demarco Murray!

Well here's some good news Philadelphia! Hours after arriving in Philadelphia, the Eagles have officially signed running back DeMarco Murray to a five-year deal. Chip Kelly said the Eagles were always looking to add two running backs to replace LeSean McCoy and once Frank Gore signed with the Colts yesterday, Kelly reached out to Murray who they thought would be out of their price range when free agency started. 

Kelly also added that he still plans to retain restricted free agent running back Chris Polk.

Well here's something that has made me a little satisfied.

Dallas Cowboys release openly gay NFL player Michael Sam

The Dallas Cowboys have released the NFL's first openly gay football player.

Michael Sam was let go from the Cowboys practice squad Tuesday, the team announced. It marks the second time a team cut ties with him this season.

Sam was originally drafted in the seventh round of this year's NFL Draft by the St. Louis Rams and cut before the season. He signed with the Cowboys only weeks later on September 3.

He spent the first seven weeks of the season on the 10-player practice squad without making the team's 53-man roster.

Sam appeared devastated at the Cowboys practice facility, but took to Twitter to thank the team for giving him an opportunity.

Practice squad players often make team rosters. Pittsburgh Steelers superstar James Harrison spent team's 10-man reserve team during the 202 and 2003 seasons and was released three times.

The linebacker was then released by the Baltimore Ravens prior to the 2005 season, re-signed with the Steelers and finally established himself.

The knocks on Harrison were similar to those on Sam: Too small to be a defensive end, too slow to be a linebacker.

It is not clear where Sam, a former Mizzou standout, will play next or if any NFL teams are interested in signing him.

Michael Sam Signs With Dallas Cowboys, Haters Let Gay Jokes 

By now, it’s pretty much understood that Michael Sam will make history with his every manuever and Jerry Jones is to thank for the latest one.

After being cut from the St. Louis Rams, the Dallas Cowboys offered Sam an opportunity to become the first openly gay player–who had been cut from a team–to join a new one.

Via Fox Sports:

Coach Jason Garrett said Wednesday that the league’s first openly gay player will be added to the practice roster.

“We just want to give him a chance to come in and help our football team,” Garrett said. “That’s where our attention is (football). What people say outside the organization is up to them.”

The Cowboys, who are seeking help with their pass rush because of injuries and the offseason release of franchise sacks leader DeMarcus Ware, added Sam four days after he was released by St. Louis when teams had to cut rosters to 53 players.

Being on the Dallas roster means Sam is returning to his home state. He was a lightly regarded recruit out of Hitchcock, Texas, a town of about 7,000 along the Gulf Coast about 40 miles southeast of Houston. His first two years at Missouri, Sam backed up Aldon Smith and Jacquies Smith, both of whom are in the NFL.

Sam isn’t likely to be on the active roster for Sunday’s opener against San Francisco.

All professional football fans know that “America’s Team” divides the line between love and hate precisely down the middle and the slander and jokes immediately followed the announcement.
