OH NO! Pose Ending With Season 3 on FX!

FX is getting ready to strike one last Pose. The award-winning ballroom drama’s upcoming third season — premiering Sunday, May 2 at 10/9c — will be its last, with the series finale slated for June 6.

According to FX, the seven-episode final season will jump ahead to 1994: “Ballroom feels like a distant memory for Blanca, who struggles to balance being a mother with being a present partner to her new love, and her latest role as a nurse’s aide. Meanwhile, as AIDS becomes the leading cause of death for Americans ages 25 to 44, Pray Tell contends with unexpected health burdens. Elsewhere, the emergence of a vicious new upstart house forces the House of Evangelista members to contend with their legacy.”

“Pose has been one of the creative highlights of my entire career,” says co-creator Ryan Murphy. “From the very beginning when Steven Canals and I sat down to hear his vision and ideas for the show, it has been a passion project. To go from the beginning of my career in the late 90s when it was nearly impossible to get an LGBTQ character on television to Pose — which will go down in history for having the largest LGBTQ cast of all time — is a truly full circle moment for me. This show made history behind and in front of the camera, and its legacy runs deep. I’m so proud of my fellow creators Steven Canals and Brad Falchuk, and also to exec producer/writer/director Janet Mock who made such an indelible mark with her personal and heartfelt work. Thanks also to Our Lady J for her incredible work as a producer, writer and actress on the show. … We got to tell the exact story we wanted, as we wanted to tell it, and I’m incredibly honored and grateful. Pose’s story may end in 1996, but its impact will go on forever.”

Looking back on the show’s run, co-creator Canals says, “Pose was conceived as a love letter to the underground NY ballroom community, to my beloved New York, to my queer & trans family, to myself. I, along with my incredible collaborators, never intended on changing the TV landscape. I simply wanted to tell an honest story about family, resilience, and love. How fortunate am I to have done that for three seasons. I’m filled with gratitude to our intrepid writers, cast, crew, and producers who worked tirelessly to make Pose come to life, humbled by our loyal audience, thankful to the ballroom community who trusted us to tell their story, overwhelmed by the critics who warmly embraced us, and forever indebted to Ryan Murphy, FX, and 20th Television for changing my life.”

Pose stars Mj Rodriguez as Blanca, Dominique Jackson as Elektra, Indya Moore as Angel, Ryan Jamaal Swain as Damon, Hailie Sahar as Lulu, Angel Bismark Curiel as Lil Papi, Dyllon Burnside as Ricky, Sandra Bernhard as Judy and Billy Porter as Pray Tell.

Coming off of a critically-acclaimed, award-winning first season and a ratings-crushing second-season premiere, Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk, and Steven Canals‘ ground-breaking series has received a season 3 pick-up from FX. The second season is set in 1990 – and the House of Evangelista finds itself at a crossroads: as ball culture begins to move from the underground to the mainstream, the growing AIDS crisis forces some to make changes – and others, to take a stand.

How impressive were Pose‘s second-season premiere? The June 11th episode drew 1.2M Total Viewers and 572,000 Adults 18-49, making it the most watched episode of the series’ run (1.8M Total Viewers across all platforms over th first five days) – with series high ratings also in Adults 18-34, Adults 25-54 and all key women demos. The season 2 opener actually bested the series premiere by +10% in Adults 18-49 and +7% in Total Viewers ratings. Only fellow FX series American Horror Story, Sons of Anarchy, Nip/Tuck, and The Shield have out-performed their respective series premieres.

Check out these super lit photos of the Pose cast for EBONY Magazine. The stars of the groundbreaking FX series are celebrating 2019 with a bang in these hot photos shot by noted photographer Dennis Leupold.

Set in the 1980s, Pose looks at the juxtaposition of several segments of life and society in New York: the rise of the luxury Trump-era universe, the downtown social and literary scene and the ball culture world.  The series features the largest gay and transgender cast in television history and was created by Ryan Murphy.

The photos include Billy Porter, MJ Rodriguez, Dyllon Burnside, Dominique Jackson, Ryan Jaamal Swain and Indya Moore.

Season 2 of FX’s acclaimed drama Pose will kick off a full year after the events of Season 1, co-creator Ryan Murphy revealed during the Television Critics Association summer press tour on Friday. “We’re gonna do a one-year time leap,” Murphy said, adding that the sophomore season will begin in 1989 and “end in March of ’90, when Madonna’s ‘Vogue’ was released.”

That song becoming a worldwide hit was a pivotal moment for the LGBT and ball community, Murphy says: It “took something that was unknown in the culture and made it mainstream. And [Season 2] will be about the reaction of our characters to that moment, where their community… is suddenly put on display.” Murphy doesn’t plan on asking the real Madonna to make a cameo as herself, though: “We haven’t tried to do too much of my typical stunt casting, and I don’t think we will… that’s not what the show is about.”

While the Pose writers’ room hasn’t convened for Season 2 yet, co-creator Steven Canals says the time jump is already giving him ideas: “Around that period is when we saw [playwright and activist] Larry Kramer emerge, and ACT UP. Personally, I would love for us to delve deeper into AIDS activism.” Season 2 will also “very much involve Blanca and Pray Tell’s HIV experience,” Murphy adds. “We want to be truthful about it, because it was a very dark, troubling time.”

Pose — which chronicles the ball culture world of 1980s New York City, with gay and transgender “houses” facing off in underground competitions — debuted in June with an eight-episode freshman season. FX handed it a Season 2 renewal last month.

10’s Across The Board You better Strike A ‘Pose’ as FX has awarded the 80’s Ballroom Drama with a Season #2!

Just days before the penultimate episode of Pose is set to air on FX, the John Landgraf run cabler has rewarded the Ryan Murphy produced series with a Season 2.

 “Ryan Murphy has once again revolutionized television with Pose, an incredibly engaging story of creativity, courage, compassion, love and family at a pivotal time in our culture,” said Landgraf today of the June 3 debuting show about the NYC trans community in the ’80s.

Now heading to Netflix in a $300 million deal announced in February, TV vet Murphy himself has called Pose “the highlight of my career.”

“As television critics have universally acknowledged, there is simply nothing like Pose on TV, so effortlessly excelling on every creative level and earning a place in television history for its infectiously inclusive spirit,” the FX boss added.  “We are honored to partner with our producers Ryan, Brad Falchuk, Steven Canals, Nina Jacobson, Brad Simpson, Alexis Martin Woodall and Sherry Marsh, and the incredible cast and crew to continue this groundbreaking journey that is Pose.”

Pose‘s second set of moves, so to speak, will hit the small screen in 2019, the cabler stated.

Co-created by Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Steven Canals, the house ball set series is EP’d by Murphy, Falchuk, Jacobson, Simpson, Woodall and Marsh. Canals and Silas Howard serve as co-executive producers, and Janet Mock, Our Lady J and Erica Kay also serve as producers too. Fox 21 Television Studios and FX Productions produce the first eight-episode season and will clearly being doing the same for Season 2.

Well let me first say I honestly have not been to a ball in many years (double digits) LOL. But it was truly a delight to get out and be amongst the ballroom community even though I felt like a true fish out of water. 

Only Alvernian and Michael Dupree could get me out like this. I first must commend Alvernian for a job well done he has truly come a long way and is one of the first in Philly along with The House of Excellence that re-birthed ballroom back into the city of Philadelphia. It’s good to see his name has rung loud and everywhere in ballroom communities all around the country. Love you nephew!

As for the ball. *blank stare* I can see a lot has changed and a lot of things have remained the same. If there has been any category that has evolved into a FORCE of NATURE if you will is the Trans-Man category WOW!!! Simply amazing to see gender to gender the transformation of these Men. Truly, truly FAB reminds me of the late Duchess Ebony who back then grew facial hair great for them.

As for the BQ category of REALNESS…..I have to give my opinions on this I felt some people really should have not walked because “clarity” was lost. mainly School boy and Pretty Boy realness. It had some guys that did not look like boys. Definition of boy; A boy is a young male human, usually child or adolescent. When he becomes an adult he's described as a man. Which means NO FACIAL HAIR. I saw so many goatees some of them should have been disqualified immediately.

I know it’s a new day but I also don’t understand this FQ vs BQ in drags madness. I think that is stupid ( My opinion) and let me explain clear layman’s term. At a ball if you walked a category in drags you were considered a FEMME QUEEN regardless of you were on the streets as a BUTCH QUEEN. For instance Pepper LaBeija and Paris Dupree were ballroom FEMME QUEENS. This whole distinction of clarifying differently now is asinine at best. The only categories that drag queens did not walk is Realness and body obviously because they were not transsexuals. I think it’s discriminatory. At a ball a femme is a femme and may the best femme win!

Performance BQ I think it’s all LOST this new vogue is acrobatics 101 pop up and spin and hot the floor. No one vogues anymore and to add that BQ vs FQ vs BQ in drags competes against each other? WTF?!? 

Then again I understand it’s a new day. But NO MA’AM.

The body category. I truly FLATLINED and BQ’s are SEX SIRENS???

However FQ queen performance Miss Iconic Voguer was FAB she reminds me so much of Princess Mahogany whom you all know as Brenda Continental Milan. She was the queen of Femme performance this of course is before Melissa Xtrava and the rest of those fab girls who came later.

Category Creativity is TOTALLY LOST no more, Futuristic, Punk Rock, Extravaganza, Eveningwear, Nostalgia,etc what happened? Bring those categories back PLEASE! As for houses I like how the houses all sit together and are very productive in helping each other out for their categories. Shout out to the House of Prodigy & House of Blahnik they definitely got House unity of the evening.

Grand Prize first off they’re too many. You can’t please everyone Grand Prize Overall is just that. Grand Prize Overall! It is the finale of the ball. Back when I walked Grand you worked for that trophy and cash and you had to battle a many of folk to win. That is the essence of it all to just that WORK FOR IT! However the house that won for The Ultimate House safe sex team battle in my opinion I thought should have not won neither them or the Prodigy’s had 100% of what the category called for. 

However The Prodigy’s had a more clearer message about safe sex and to me that was more important than anything else.

And can someone explain to me Women in Drags??? As for Mother vs Mother. I did not see anything or anyone even come in light years to Pepper, Paris, Angie, Dorian, and Avis. Sigh!

Overall I had a great time and the ball overall was GREAT. It was good to connect with today’s ballroom community whom I chat with via facebook. 

In closing I will say I still see that overall UNITY is lost they still want to fight, Judges still want to be shady on GP. And some are just plain shady to each other. There is a difference between ballroom shade and vicious shade. We need to love each other more because in this gay community is minorities are still on the bottom of the scale as a community and we need to change this A.S.A.P and preserve Ballroom legacy it is paramount that we do. 

Once again to the Icon Alvernian a job well done!
