#MAGFAB: Jourdan Dunn for Harpers Bazaar UK June 2024
Supermodel Jourdan Dunn made major fashion waves in February 2015, when she became the first woman of color since Naomi Campbell in August 2002 to cover British Vogue.
This week Jourdan Dunn owns a worldwide, fashion first; and it’s her own crown-worthy moment in the spotlight. Harper’s Bazaar UK [IG] travels to the ancient Castle of Mey in Caithness, Scotland for its June 2024 cover story
She is the first model to be photographed at the castle, and — AOC assumes — the first fashion shoot of any kind at the castle.
Jourdan is styled by Cathy Kasterine, as a key figure in Bazaar’s ‘Best of Britain’ issue. / Avril Mair provides fashion direction; makeup by Alex Babsky; hair by Isaac Poleon
The Castle & Gardens of Mey, originally purchased by HM Queen Elizabeth in 1952, served as a royal residence for the Queen Mother for about three weeks in August and another 10 days in October.
Dunn reflected about her global-first photography shoot with Richard Phibbs [IG], when she met Lydia Slater in Bloomsbury for the followup Bazaar interview, which is part of today’s fashion story ‘Queen of the Castle’.
“All seals, and water, and sands – it was a wonderful escape. I understand the attraction, to be so far away from everybody. My gran loved the Queen Mother – they shared the same birthday – so this would probably have been her proudest thing.”
I can’t imagine living in Britain as a young girl of color, and my beloved grandmother shared the queen mother’s birthday — and expressed her love for this national figure to our family.
And now I — the granddaughter and a woman of color — am shooting a ‘Best of Britain’ Bazaar fashion story at her castle.
Dunn’s tearful reflection underscores the complexity of our modern world and our collective global history. Polarized populations with brains that operate on a single, push-button mode of binary thinking might condemn this very fashion story, even when Dunn is called a ‘national treasure’ on the cover.
Jourdan Dunn became very emotional in this interview. She shared the major self-repair the mother of one son Riley, experienced working with a life coach during the pandemic.
"It helped me to realise what my purpose is and what my passions are. I love beauty, I love art and that’s what the fashion industry does. I never used to believe I was creative, but my life coach said, 'You’re creating all the time!'
"Even getting this cover –" she breaks off and wipes her eyes, apologising. "I feel a bit emotional about it. Three years ago, I'd have thought, 'Why would I get that?' This time, that little voice did try to pipe up, and I was like: why wouldn't I be best of British? I've learnt to quieten those doubts."
After the online success of her cooking show ‘Well Dunn’, the supermodel is focused on becoming “the UK’s Black Martha Stewart’.
"That’s the next step to building an empire and creating generational wealth, and having the Dunn name live on past me,” she tells Slater. A Carribean/British gastropub is on her mood boards. Being a role model to Riley is important to her “Especially because he already feels limited.”
Nice!

#HipHopNews: Kanye West Finalizing Settlement With Donna Summer Estate In “I Feel Love” Battle
Kanye West has settled with the Estate of Donna Summer over allegations of copyright infringement from the unauthorized use of the singer’s iconic hit “I Feel Love” on his album Vultures 1.
The estate filed the lawsuit on February 27, alleging West incorporated the song into his work without obtaining necessary permission. According to the complaint, West either re-recorded the track, used an A.I.-generated rendition or directly sampled Summer’s vocals, violating copyright laws.
Asking of permission was disregarded.
“Kanye West asked permission to use Donna Summer’s song ‘I Feel Love,’ he was denied… he changed the words, had someone re-sing it or used A.I., but it’s ‘I Feel Love’… copyright infringement,” a rep for the estate said.
Following the lawsuit, the two parties agreed to resolve the matter amicably. Sources revealed to AllHipHop that negotiations persisted throughout April and May, culminating in a global settlement on May 13.
All parties have agreed in principle, although the estate has faced challenges locating Ty Dolla $ign to serve him with legal documents. Despite the obstacle, both parties anticipate finalizing and executing the written settlement shortly.
The terms of this settlement, including any financial compensation or specific amends, haven’t been made public.
Once all parties have signed the settlement agreement, the estate plans to proceed with filing a stipulation for dismissal of the action. Once executed, the settlement will end a legal dispute that has attracted significant public and media attention.
Summer, also known as the “Queen of Disco,” left a legacy that her estate is committed to protecting, evidenced by their rigorous defense of the celebrated 1977 classic “I Feel Love.”
Although representatives for both Kanye West and Donna Summer’s estate declined to comment further, the upcoming finalization of the settlement indicates an end to the legal strife that has consumed both parties over recent months.
Iran's president Ebrahim Raisi has died in a helicopter crash
Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, the country's foreign minister and other officials were declared dead from a helicopter crash, Iranian state media said on Monday.
The Iranian government held an emergency meeting following the announcement of Raisi's death and afterward Iran's supreme leader, Ali Khamenei, named First Vice President Mohammad Mokhber as acting president. Khamenei also announced five days of mourning would take place in the country.
The crash left Iran without two of its most pivotal diplomatic figures as regional tensions remain high from the ongoing Israel-Hamas war.
Iranian state-run media announced Raisi's death in a post on Monday, along with the deaths of Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian, the governor of Iran's East Azerbaijan province and other government officials who were aboard the helicopter.
No immediate cause for the crash was provided, but state media released images online showing what it called was the wreckage from the helicopter the group was traveling in. The helicopter crashed in foggy conditions in a mountainous area in northern Iran as they returned from an event along Iran's border with Azerbaijan.
Immediate international reaction came from Iran's neighbors. Pakistan's government announced it would observe a day of mourning over the news. In Russia, President Vladimir Putin sent his condolences to Khamenei, Russian state media reported.
Rescue teams searched intensely for the helicopter
Earlier, IRNA reported that the president of the Iranian Red Crescent Society confirmed that rescue and search teams had identified Raisi's helicopter.
On Sunday, Iran's Interior Minister, Ahmad Vahidi, said a "hard landing" of the president's helicopter and said the search-and-rescue operation were underway, according to IRNA.
IRNA reported that two passengers on the flight had communicated with rescue workers. Twenty rescue teams, including drones and dogs, had been sent to the scene, and the Iranian military had also deployed troops to assist in the rescue effort, IRNA added.
The Fars News Agency posted what it said was video footage of rescue teams that had been dispatched to the area. Earlier in the day, the Iranian government's X account posted an image of Raisi seated next to Azerbaijan's president, Ilham Aliyev, at the opening of a dam along the border between the two countries.
Raisi was elected in 2021 and is a relative hard-liner A former cleric and judge, Raisi was elected president in 2021.
When he came into office, Raisi said Iran would continue to honor its nuclear deal with the U.S., despite then-President Donald Trump's decision to pull out of the agreement in 2018. Still, Raisi has been viewed as more of a hard-liner than his predecessor, former Iranian president Hassan Rouhani.

Ex-Bad Boy Star Shyne Barrow Condemns Diddy's 'Repugnant Behavior' To Cassie In Leaked Video
Shyne Barrow has condemned Sean "P. Diddy" Combs' "repugnant behavior" which was caught on camera in recently circulating footage. The rapper-turned-politician has spoken against his former label boss after the leaked video showed the Bad Boy Records mogul assaulting his then-girlfriend Cassie back in 2016.
The ex-Bad Boy star took to his Instagram page on Sunday, May 19 to slam his former mentor. "I vehemently denounce the repugnant behavior of Sean Diddy Combs captured on the video in which he is seen physically assaulting Mrs Cassie Ventura-Fine," he wrote.
The rapper, who is now an elected member of the House of Representatives in Belize, stated, "There is no place for Violence against Women anywhere on the planet. As a father of a precious daughter, a global citizen and the next Prime Minister of Belize I want absolutely nothing to do with people who engage in this pattern of diabolical behavior."
Sending his support to Cassie and other women who have accused Diddy of similar behavior, the 45-year-old added, "My prayers are with Cassie and all the other victims who have come forward with horrendous allegations against Mr Combs."
Shyne is infamously known for being involved in a 1999 club shooting, for which he was incarcerated for eight years. Diddy and his then-girlfriend Jennifer Lopez were present during the shooting and Natania Reuben, who was shot in the face during the club shooting, has claimed that the hip-hop mogul was actually the one who pulled the trigger instead of Shyne. The leader of the Belize United Democratic Party recently insisted that he's "the fall guy" for the shooting.
Shyne issued his statement after Diddy publicly apologized to his ex Cassie. "I hit rock bottom -- but I make no excuses," he said in a video on Sunday. "My behavior on that video is inexcusable. I take full responsibility for my actions in that video. I was disgusted then when I did it. I'm disgusted now. I went and I sought out professional help. I got into going to therapy, going to rehab. I had to ask God for his mercy and grace. I'm so sorry. But I'm committed to be a better man each and every day. I'm not asking for forgiveness. I'm truly sorry."
Cassie's lawyer, however, wasn't convinced by Diddy's apology, saying in a statement, "Combs' most recent statement is more about himself than the many people he has hurt. When Cassie and multiple other women came forward, he denied everything and suggested that his victims were looking for a payday. That he was only compelled to 'apologize' once his repeated denials were proven false shows his pathetic desperation, and no one will be swayed by his disingenuous words."

#BoxOfficeNews: 'IF' Beats 'Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes' To Become #1
"IF" is the answer to a new champion at this week's box office. The live-action animated fantasy comedy film from director John Krasinski debuts at No. 1 in North America despite a soft opening of approximately $35 million.
Starring Ryan Reynolds, the pic, which was also written and produced by the "A Quiet Place" filmmaker, was initially expected to bring in at least $40 million in its first weekend. Based on Friday's turnout, the movie was on track for a $30 million opening, but openings were revised up after Saturday's strong showing.
It's a wobbly start for a movie that cost an estimated $110 million to make, not including the marketing cost. Overseas, it has collected an additional $20 million for a global total of $55 million.
"IF" received mixed responses from critics, who gave it 49% fresh ratings on Rotten Tomatoes. However, viewers seemed to disagree and gave it a glowing A scale on Cinemascore.
"Families came out in force and they loved the film," said Chris Aronson, who heads Paramount's domestic distribution. "I think it bodes well for moviegoing in general as we move into the summer movie season," Aronson said. "Kids are out of school starting this coming week and I couldn’t think of a better film to be in the marketplace than this one: It’s new, it’s fresh, its original, and it’s such a heartwarming film."
Not surprised by the weak performance of the new release, David A. Gross of movie consulting firm Franchise Entertainment Research said, "The early summer lineup is subdued. The industry is waiting for an over-performer to beat expectations and break out. We continue to trail pre-pandemic box office levels by a wide margin, and comparisons are not going to get easier as we move into the heart of summer."
"This is a very unusual summer. It got off to an unusual start without a Marvel movie," Paul Dergarabedian, the senior media analyst for Comscore, also weighed in. "The box office has been in a holding pattern 20% down from last year."
Dergarabedian noted that Memorial Day weekend is a time when moviegoers play can play catch up with films they've missed and heard about. He added, "On almost every level this is a non-traditional summer in the lineup of films and the trajectory of the box office. But collectively these films should have a solid Memorial weekend."
Despite the disappointing debut, "IF" still manages to defeat last week's champion "Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes", which only held the crown for a week. The sci-fi dystopian action film added an estimated $26 million to its domestic gross, which has now crossed $100 million. With $136 million from international markets, the movie has grossed a total of $237.5 million worldwide.
Lionsgate's horror film "The Strangers: Chapter 1" is another newcomer to debut in the top five this week. The movie overperforms with a $12 million debut from 2,856 locations, thanks in part to its innovative marketing campaign that staged some viral moments by bringing the "strangers" to major events.
"The Fall Guy" plummets from No. 2 to No. 4 with an estimated $8.4 million, followed by "Challengers" at No. 5 with approximately $2.9 million. The Amy Winehouse biopic "Back to Black" opens at No. 6 with an estimated $2.8 million.
Overall, this week's box office still falls behind 2023 by almost 22%. Movie theater owners are hoping to end this sluggish trend next weekend as Memorial Day brings the release of "Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga" and "The Garfield Movie".

Visual Artist Joseph Awuah-Darko Accuses Painter Kehinde Wiley Of 2021 Sexual Assault
Visual artist Joseph Awuah-Darko, pictured, has accused renowned painter Kehinde Wiley of sexually assaulting him in the summer of 2021.
Joseph Awuah-Darko is accusing fellow visual artist Kehinde Wiley of sexual assault.
In a harrowing Instagram post Sunday, the Ghanaian artist alleged Wiley assaulted him twice in June 2021.
"I was sexually assaulted by @kehindewiley. It almost destroyed me," Awuah-Darko wrote. "I hope my words and openness about my painful experience empower others to come forward. I hope all that unravels creates a path towards not only accountability, but recompense and collective healing for other victims."

Wiley seemingly responded to Awuah-Darko's allegations in his own Instagram post Sunday.
"Someone I had a brief, consensual relationship with almost three years ago is now making a false accusation about our time together," Wiley wrote. "I kindly ask for privacy as I work to clear my name."
Wiley, pictured, seemingly responded to Awuah-Darko's allegations of sexual assault in his own Instagram post Sunday, calling the claims a "false accusation."
Wiley is a New York painter who became a star in the art world for his images of everyday people — people of color from Harlem, Haiti, France and beyond — done up in the style of grand European portraits once reserved for kings, queens and assorted nobles. He's also painted portraits of celebrities, including Spike Lee, Carmelo Anthony and former President Barack Obama.
In his Instagram post, Awuah-Darko claimed he first met Wiley during a dinner held in Wiley's honor at the Noldor Artist Residency, which he founded in 2020.
While ushering Wiley and another dinner guest to the bathroom, Awuah-Darko was allegedly groped by Wiley when the painter grabbed his buttocks and said "something along the lines of 'what is this thing?' " Awuah-Darko said he subsequently "placated the situation with awkward humor."
"The act was categorically unwelcomed and unprovoked – Wiley had barely known me for more than two hours by this point, and I was wearing a modest dark green kaftan," Awuah-Darko wrote. "I was stunned and concerned for two reasons: [A] this unsolicited act had occurred in Ghana at my place of work, and [B] it was done by a critically celebrated artist who knew the power he wielded and seemed clearly prepared to abuse it."
Awuah-Darko said Wiley assaulted him a second time, though he does not specify the circumstances surrounding the assault other than describing it as "more severe and violent." He also alleged that Wiley has a "pattern of predatory behavior" that has been "treated as an open secret within the art world for quite some time."
Addressing Wiley directly, Awuah-Darko concluded: "I thoroughly invite you to leverage your supposed credibility, your influence, your loyalists and everything you have to gag those of us who come forward. Because I assure you, you will need it."
Kehinde Wiley seemingly denies Joseph Awuah-Darko's sexual assault allegations
Wiley appeared to denounce Awuah-Darko's allegations against him in his Instagram post.
"These claims are not true and are an affront to all victims of sexual abuse," Wiley wrote. "I have no idea why he has decided to target me in this way – particularly when there is a litany of evidence showing his claims are false."
He concluded: "I hope he gets the help he needs for whatever he is going through."

On Thursday night, JLo and Ben were seen out together for the first time since March 30th.

‘X-Men ’97’ EP Brad Winderbaum On Season 2: “People Are Just Going To Have To Be Patient With Us”
The first season of X-Men ’97 ended this week on Disney+, but Marvel fans will have to be patient before they can start streaming Season 2.
A second season of the animated series has already been greenlit, and executive producer Brad Winderbaum gave an update on the production of the new season.
“It’s still an animatic phase,” Wanderbaum told ComicBook in an interview. “Animation takes so long to make as I’m sure you know. There was a great bit about this in Invincible Season 2. They just nailed it so hard, it is the greatest
Wanderbaum explained that “it takes a long time” for an animated series to get made “Because the studio wants to see how successful the first season is before they greenlight the second season there’s a lag.”
“We were lucky enough to get the greenlight before we aired so there’s maybe less of a lag,” he added. “People are just going to have to be patient with us.”
Writer and producer Beau de Mayo, who exited X-Men ’97 weeks before the show premiered on Disney+ is not involved in the production of the second season. However, De Mayo told a fan on social media that before exiting, he had written a lot of Season 2.
“I did write a lot of season 2,” De Mayo shared on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter. “However, unlike Season 1, I will not be heavily involved or leading production, cast records, design, editorial, post, music, etc., nor doing any production rewrites as it relates to the creative vision of the show.”

Drake Loses $565,000 After Betting on Tyson Fury to Beat Oleksandr Usyk
Drake suffered another hefty loss, this time in the form of a sports bet he placed on Tyson Fury that didn't work out in his favor.
On Saturday night, Fury lost his bout against Oleksandr Usyk in Saudi Arabia by split decision, and that meant The Boy lost some money. Before the fight, Drizzy put up $565,000 on Fury for a potential payout of $1 million.
Drake has a history of losing bets in combat sports. He lost money when Francis Ngannou was knocked out by Anthony Joshua in March, another $700,000 when Sean Strickland fell to Dricus Du Plessis at UFC 297, $550,000 on Israel Adesanya losing to Strickland, and $890,000 on Logan Paul knocking out Dillon Danis.
Back in December 2022, the For All the Dogs artist also lost $1 million over his bet on the World Cup final between Argentina and France. He lost an additional $275,000 when Colby Covington defeated Jorge Masvidal at last year's UFC 272 event.

On May 18, surrounded by loved ones, Jacquees and Deiondra revealed the sex of their baby. The outdoor event was adorned with pink and blue balloons and signs reading ‘BOY’ and ‘GIRL.’ Deiondra matched the theme with her outfit. As the crowd counted down, “3…2…1…,” the 30-year-old singer pushed a fake dynamite plunger marked ‘TNT,’ releasing blue smoke into the air. Jacquees celebrated joyfully, raising his hands like Rocky Balboa as guests cheered.
Deiondra shared her excitement on Instagram, captioning, “OMG OMG! Today was nothing short of amazing! Thank you everyone who came, supported, and sponsored! Thanks bae for making this day so special for me and everything I imagined! I love you all!” She also announced that a YouTube video of the event was live and joked about posting updates all week.
Though Deiondra’s father was absent, her brother, Deion Sanders Jr., captured the special moments on camera.
The Couple’s Relationship Journey
Deiondra and Jacquees have had their share of social media drama. On February 6, rapper Dreezy shared screenshots suggesting Jacquees was still pursuing her despite expecting a child with Deiondra. Deiondra had not confirmed her pregnancy at that time.
On February 15, as reported by The Shade Room, Dreezy trolled Deiondra after Jacquees posted a selfie with her. Dreezy commented, “Plz take him back so he can stop calling me,” with a praying hands emoji. The response on social media was mixed, with some criticizing Dreezy for seeking attention.
Despite the drama, Deiondra and Jacquees remained unbothered, later seen together at an Atlanta nail shop. On March 8, Deiondra confirmed her pregnancy.
In May, Dreezy again implied Jacquees was contacting her, but Deiondra continues to stand by her man.
U.S. State Department Issues Travel Advisory for International Pride Month Celebrations
If you are traveling internationally for Pride festivities next month, it’s important to take safety precautions. On Friday, the U.S. State Department issued a travel advisory, warning citizens who plan to attend Pride month celebrations overseas to “exercise increased caution” due to potential threats, including terrorist attacks and other acts of violence targeting Americans.

“The Department of State is aware of the increased potential for foreign terrorist organization-inspired violence against LGBTQI+ persons and events,” the department stated.
A spokesperson for the department did not reveal if the advisory is based on a specific event or threat but emphasized, “The U.S. Department of State has no higher priority than the safety and security of U.S. citizens overseas. We take seriously our commitment to provide U.S. citizens with clear, timely, and reliable information about every country in the world so they can make informed travel decisions.”
Additionally, the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security issued a similar warning earlier this month, indicating that foreign terrorist organizations could target Pride festivities within the United States.
“FTO efforts to commit or inspire violence against holiday celebrations, including Pride celebrations or LGBTQIA+-related venues, are compounded by the current heightened threat environment in the United States and other Western countries,” the agencies stated. “FTOs and their supporters have previously promoted anti-LGBTQIA+ rhetoric and targeted LGBTQIA+ related events or venues for attacks.”
The agencies also noted that this year marks the eighth anniversary of the 2016 Pulse nightclub shooting in Orlando, Florida. They highlighted that “after the Pulse shooting, pro-ISIS messaging praised the attack as one of the high-profile attacks in Western countries, and FTO supporters celebrated it.”
