Jean-Raymond became the first Black American designer invited to show Haute Couture during Paris Couture Week last July. After a 48-hour delay due to torrential weather associated with Hurricane Elsa’s arrival in the Northeast, Jean-Raymond stepped into the history of couture spotlight at Villa Lewaro in Irvington, New York.
The Fédération de la Haute Couture extended their calendar so that Pyer Moss could still be listed on the couture calendar and have Kerby Jean-Raymond be the first Black American designer to show for couture.
The 34-room, 20,000-square-foot mansion was the intellectual gathering place for leaders of the Harlem Renaissance. Even more relevant to the couture conversation Villa Lewaro was home to Madam C.J. Walker, the country’s first African-American woman millionaire, a renowned businesswoman and philanthropist.
Curbed wrote about the residence: “Named after her daughter (LElia WAlker RObinson), Walker’s “Dream of Dreams” home was designed by the first licensed black architect in the state of New York, Vertner Tandy. Madam Walker was the first person of color to own property in the area around Lyndhurst. Her townhouse in Manhattan on 136th Street, also designed by Tandy, was built "without regard to cost but with considerable regard for good taste," according to a 1917 Literary Digest interview, which estimated her annual income at $250,000 a year (roughly $4.7 million in today’s dollars).”
Villa Lewaro is now home to New Voices Foundation, devoted to cultivating entrepreneurship among women of color.
When Kerby Jean-Raymond unleashed the first ever Black American designer at Paris Haute Couture Week, titled “Wat U Iz”, looks were deceiving. The camp-mood on the runway could have easily been envisioned by Gucci’s Alessandro Michele.
In Jean-Raymond’s case, the show served as a black history lesson, with the couture clothes highlighting 25 inventions pioneered by Black people. High Snobiety outlined every invention in the show.
#RHOA: Kandi Burruss Has something to say concerning the Rumors of Jeannie Mai Replacing Her on Season 14
Kandi Burruss is clearing up some rumors about The Real Housewives of Atlanta. ET's Nischelle Turner visited Burruss at her family's Old Lady Gang restaurant in Atlanta, Georgia, which is the scene for Burruss' new RHOA spinoff, Kandi & the Gang, where she shared what viewers can expect on season 14 of the series.
"I didn't understand. I don't know who makes these rumors up," Burruss said of rumblings that she wasn't part of the show's upcoming season. "I think somebody secretly wants to get rid of me or something. I'm like, 'Too late. I already filmed season 14.'"
There were also rumors that Jeannie Mai had come on to replace Burrus.
"Now here's the thing, I'm cool with Jeannie," Burruss maintained. " And I love her. So, please, I would love for her to come on. Like for the next [season]."
The Real co-host, who recently welcomed her first child with rapper Jeezy, lives in Atlanta. But her move from Los Angeles to the Peach State wasn't done so she could appear on the long-running reality TV series. Not only is she not holding a peach, she isn't even a guest on the show, The Chi actress shared.
"I don't know if somebody wants her to come through," she continued. "I mean, it would be great to see her. I would love for her to be a part... We're friends, so let me be the one to bring her on."
While the show has lost Cynthia Bailey and Porsha Williams, season 14 will see a few new faces, and the return of some OGs, including Shereé Whitfield, who has been off and on the show over the years.
"Of course, everybody was a little scared because we lost two peaches, but coming into it, I felt like everybody was transparent. They brought it this year. My girl, She by Sheree, she was doing her thing," Burruss teased.
"She came back, but she came back, back," she continued. "She shared her life with us. We get to learn so much about... I mean, normally she's a little private, but she was so open about what was going on in her relationship with Tyrone, child."
Burruss wouldn't say too much but she did share that Whitfield was open about the struggles she's faced in her personal life and in business. The same goes for Marlo Hampton, who is holding a peach this season after being a longtime "friend of the show."
"I knew that there were other things in her life that was way more interesting than what they had been showing about her," Burruss said about Hampton being promoted for season 14. "So, I had always been an advocate and trying to push for her to get a peach, because I was like, 'Y'all don't really give her a chance to really show what's really up with her.'"
"And this year, she finally was able to come on and do that, and then she came for me," the singer-songwriter added, teasing some of the drama that's to come from the two when the show premieres May 1. "I was like, 'How you going to come for me?' I'm your cheerleader. I'm cheerleading for you, and you came for me?' I didn't like it."
Despite all the drama and the shifts in casting, Burruss called season 14 "amazing."
"And so, with that being said, we started off right. Now, things obviously go haywire as they always do, but it wasn't like anybody was trying to hide what they really are," Burruss explained. "Sometimes, after you've been on the show for so long, some people are like, 'I don't want to do anything that's going to hurt my brand,' and all this other stuff... but people came into this season really like, OK, it is what it is. The people are going to see whatever's happening with us, and a lot happened."
The drama carries over onto Kandy & The Gang, too. While the restaurant was existence long before the show started, Burruss tells ET it was her husband Todd, who had the idea to start a show centered around the restaurant, centered around recipes from her mother Joyce and aunts Nora and Bertha.
"When he was first coming up with doing the restaurant, he started building out the restaurant, and he said he felt like we need to do a show. When we started hiring some of the people we were meeting, he said, 'We need a show about the restaurant," she explained. "So, he told our production company that runs Real Housewives and he told the network, and they thought about it at first, and then they decided to do it, actually, two years ago... but then the world shut down."
From cousins to family friends and locals who work at the restaurant, there's quite a few characters on Kandy & The Gang, but Burruss said none of them were actually cast.
"Somebody said to me, they thought we casted them. I was like, 'No, they actually work here. We didn't go looking for anybody. They were right here,'" the busy business owner shared.
While it took nearly two years to bring the show to fruition, the series definitely brings the heat, in and outside of the OLG kitchen, even more so than on RHOA, Burruss said.
"It gets heated in both. I'm going to have to be honest and say, we had a little heated moment with my aunt and one of my cousins in the show," Burruss revealed. So, sometimes things do get a bit heated here, but we have a lot of fun and a lot of laughter. I think even more so than RHOA."
Catch Burruss and her family on Kandi & the Gang, airing Sundays at 9:00 p.m. on Bravo, and on season 14 of The Real Housewives of Atlanta, when it premieres later this year.

After taking Club Quarantine from his living room to stages in Los Angeles, New York City and Atlanta with star-studded, sold-out concerts in 2021, D-Nice is going even bigger for 2022. He has curated a whole holiday weekend full of music, events and CQ Family fun for CQ Live In Vegas.
Presented by D-Nice’s company Brand Nice and Live Nation Urban, CQ Live In Vegas has a long list of artists and DJs scheduled to perform and participate. Keyshia Cole is headlining with Fabolous, Jagged Edge, Tank, El DeBarge, Amerie, Mya, Fred Hammond and Karima Trotter all ready to rock the mic. Many of D-Nice’s DJ friends will be there to help him move the crowd, including all of The Originals – DJ Clark Kent, Rich Medina, Stretch Armstrong and Tony Touch – and a slew of female turntablists – Kitty Ca$h, DJ Millie, Natasha Diggs and DJ Reborn – holding it down for the ladies. Of course, D-Nice’s partner in crime Kenny Burns will also be in the mix to host the festivities.
D-Nice and company are going to set it off in Sin City this September. In addition to the live music element, there’ll be special events throughout the weekend. #HipHopNews: 6IX9INE Says He's 'Struggling' Amid Stalled Career In New Declaration To Judge
6ix9ine’s been relatively quiet on social media for much of 2022. Usually armed with several trolling attempts and singles, the Brooklyn rapper hasn’t shared a post on his Instagram account since May 2021 and, according to recent testimony to a judge, is “struggling to make ends meet.”
In court documents obtained by Complex, 6ix9ine informed a judge overseeing his civil lawsuit regarding a 2018 armed robbery his career hasn’t been the same since his time in jail and career-wise, money is drying up and labels aren’t extending him advances.
“Right now, I am struggling to make ends meet,” 6ix9ine claimed in the court docs. “I do not know if I will ever command the kind of advances I was paid before my arrest, and my career stalled. I did receive large advances under the recording artist and merchandising agreements prior to my arrest. However, I do not receive any royalties under those agreements either since my royalty accounts remain unrecouped.”
6ix9ine’s recording deal with TenThousandProjects expired last month and so did his merchandising deal. He first signed with the label in 2017 and released two projects, his Day69 mixtape and his 2018 studio album, Dummy Boy. He resigned to the label days before he was sentenced on racketeering charges in 2019. Following his release from jail, he released a number of singles and his 2020 album TattleTales.
In a final statement to the judge, 6ix9ine foresees bankruptcy as a possibility, stating, “It will surely bankrupt me in a way from which I will never recover to the permanent detriment and hardship of the family members who rely upon me.”
The civil case stems from an April 2018 armed robbery attempt where 6ix9ine and members of the Trey Nine Bloods assaulted Seketha Wonzer and Kevin Dozier, believing they were members of J. Prince’s Rap-A-Lot Records. The two men were actually working as publicists and filed a lawsuit against 6ix9ine in December 2021.
6ix9ine pleaded guilty to the charges in connection with the plea agreement he struck with federal prosecutors regarding his racketeering trial.
Tom Brady Announces He Will Return For Another Season
Tom Brady announced on social media Sunday night that he is not going to retire from the NFL. The quarterback posted that he will return for a 23rd season, a third with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Brady announced his retirement in February.
“The past two months I’ve realized my place is still on the field and not in the stands,” Brady wrote. “That time will come. But it’s not now. I love my teammates, and I love my supportive family. They make it all possible. I’m coming back for my 23rd season in Tampa.”
Brady, 44, walked away as the most successful quarterback in league history and one of the greatest champions in professional sports. He retired after winning seven Super Bowls and setting numerous passing records in an unprecedented 22-year career.
“This is difficult for me to write, but here it goes: I am not going to make that competitive commitment anymore,” Brady wrote in a lengthy post on Instagram on Feb. 1. “I have loved my NFL career, and now it is time to focus my time and energy on other things that require my attention.”
Brady left after leading the Buccaneers to a Super Bowl title two years ago and the NFC South championship last season in his two seasons with the Buccaneers.
At the time of his retirement announcement, Brady said he’s still figuring out how he’ll spend his time and that he planned to be involved in his TB12 health and wellness company, Brady clothing line and NFT company.
Brady led the NFL in yards passing (5,316), touchdowns (43), completions (485) and attempts (719) in 2021, but the Buccaneers lost at home to the Los Angeles Rams in the divisional round.
Brady returns as the career leader in yards passing (84,520) and TDs (624). He’s the only player to win more than five Super Bowls and was MVP of the game five times.
Brady won three NFL MVP awards, was a first-team All-Pro three times and was selected to the Pro Bowl 15 times. He was 243-73 in his career in the regular season and 35-12 in the playoffs.
Brady went from 199th pick in the 2000 draft to replacing an injured Drew Bledsoe in 2001 and leading New England to a Super Bowl victory over the heavily favored Rams that season.
He led the Patriots to consecutive Super Bowl titles following the 2003-04 seasons. No team has since repeated as champions.
But New England wouldn’t win another one for a decade, twice losing to the New York Giants in the Super Bowl, including a 17-14 defeat on Feb. 3, 2008, that prevented the Patriots from completing a perfect season.
Brady earned his fourth ring after the 2014 season. Two years later, in the biggest Super Bowl comeback, he led the Patriots out of a 28-3 deficit in the third quarter against the Falcons to win in overtime for No. 5. Brady got his sixth championship when New England beat the Rams following the 2018 season.
He joined the Buccaneers in 2020 amid a pandemic, instantly transforming a franchise that hadn’t won a playoff game in 18 years.
Brady reached the playoffs 19 times, won 18 division titles, went 10-4 in conference championships and 7-3 in Super Bowls.
#BoxOfficeNews: ‘The Batman’ Snags Another $66 Million in 2nd Weekend at Box Office
After earning the second $100 million-plus opening of the post-shutdown era, Warner Bros./DC’s “The Batman” has posted an excellent second weekend box office total of $66 million, bringing its 10-day domestic tally to $238.5 million and $463 million worldwide.
This result means a weekend domestic drop of just 51%, giving “The Batman” a better second weekend hold than any of the top 5 highest grossing films of 2021; and considering the movie’s ability to beat projections, that hold could improve further after Sunday’s actuals are reported.
With this blistering pace, “The Batman” stays on track to reach $400 million in North America and potentially $1 billion worldwide, having already exceeded the domestic and global runs of “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” as it joins “Spider-Man: No Way Home” as the only film in the past year to top $225 million domestically. Next weekend’s opening in China will go a long way in determining the ceiling for this extremely popular take on The Dark Knight.
With no new wide releases in theaters this weekend, “The Batman” took up an estimated 63% of all domestic revenue. The sole newcomer to the top 5 was not a studio film but an event release: “BTS: Permission to Dance on Stage,” a theatrical live streaming of the K-Pop group’s concert in Seoul that was screened Saturday in 800 cinemas with a premium ticket price of $35.
The extra cost did little to dampen turnout from the BTS Army, as the event grossed $7 million to become the highest grossing live cinema event in box office history and taking the No. 3 spot on the box office charts. Trafalgar Releasing handled distribution for the event, which is the fourth BTS concert since 2018 that the company has brought to theaters.
With a record $32.6 million grossed across 75 countries, the success of “BTS: Permission to Dance” comes as live events such as music concerts, Fathom Events’ long-running Met Opera series, and simulcasts of sporting events such as UFC pay-per-views and the League of Legends World Finals have received more attention among exhibitors as a means of boosting turnout beyond the theatrical slate.

MGM’s “Dog” is in fourth place with $5.3 million in its fourth weekend and a domestic total of $47.8 million. Completing the top 5 is “Spider-Man: No Way Home” with $4 million as the Marvel record-breaker closes in on $800 million domestic with $792 million grossed after 13 weekends.
Ariana DeBose Sends Inspiring Message to LGBTQ+ Community While Accepting Critics Choice Award
Ariana DeBose has an inspiring message for fans while accepting an award at the 2022 Critics Choice Awards on Sunday night (March 13) from London, England.
The 31-year-old West Side Story actress was honored with the Best Supporting Actress award during the show, just a few hours after winning at the BAFTAs.
In her acceptance speech, Ariana had a clear message for the people of the LGBTQ+ community.
“To all young people, [it] doesn’t matter how you identify or who you are, you are unique, you are talented, you are seen, you are valued, you are loved and you matter. Please don’t ever forget that,” she said.
Ariana also gave a shout out to Rita Moreno, who was nominated alongside her in the category.

You inspire me, and especially one fellow nominee, the great Rita Moreno,” Ariana said. “Seriously, you made space for me to thrive beside you — I am not in front of you, I am not behind you, I am beside you. Jussie Smollett Brother Reveals He's In Jail Psych Ward As Officials Label Him At Risk For 'Self-Harm'
CHICAGO, IL – Former Empire actor Jussie Smollett was sentenced to 150 days in Cook County Jail for staging a fake hate crime in January 2019. The sentencing hearing took place on Thursday (March 10) and clearly did have the outcome Smollett was expecting. As he was being hauled off to jail, he proclaimed his innocence, repeatedly shouted he was “not suicidal” and kept his fist raised in the air.
Despite Smollett’s defiance, he was treated like the rest of the Cook County Jail inmates and taken in for booking. But according to his brother brother Jocqui, the 39-year-old has been placed in the jail’s psychiatric ward because his official paperwork claims he’s a risk for “self-harm.”
In a clip posted to Smollett’s Instagram account on Saturday (March 12), Jocqui insisted his brother wasn’t suicidal, saying, “So Jussie is currently in a psych ward at the Cook County Jail. What’s very concerning is that there was a note attached to his paperwork today saying that he’s at risk of self-harm.
“I want to make it clear that he is in no way, shape, or form at risk of self-harm. He wants to let folks know that he is very stable, he is very strong, he is very healthy and ready to take on the challenge that… has been put up against him.”
Smollett was clearly concerned for his safety as he was being led out of the courtroom. He plainly stated if anything happened to him in jail, he didn’t do it. According to TMZ, law enforcement explained he’s in the psychiatric ward because it’s the same area they house high-profile inmates. But it seems Jocqui sees it differently.
“This is not right,” Jocqui added. “This is complete lack of justice. So please, make sure you all spreading facts. We really need our people to support us.”
The openly gay actor maintained his innocence up until the very end of the trial and wanted to reiterate he wasn’t suicidal.
“I did not do this,” Smollett said. “I am innocent. If I did this then it means that I stuck my fist in the fears of Black Americans in this country for over 400 years and the fears of the LGBTQ community. And if anything happens to me when I go in there, I did not do it to myself. And you must all know that.”
Shortly after Smollett’s sentence was handed down, his family shared an Instagram post that read, “I AM INNOCENT AND I AM NOT SUICIDAL. – JUSSIE SMOLLETT.” They added in the caption, “OUR BROTHER IS INNOCENT AND WE WILL KEEP FIGHTING. #FreeJussie.”
Kansas City Chiefs Quarterback Patrick Mahomes Marries Longtime Love Brittany Matthews in Hawaii
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and his longtime girlfriend, Brittany Matthews, have tied the knot in Hawaii, according to posts on the couple’s Instagram accounts.
via: People: The longtime couple made it official on Saturday in Maui, Hawaii, saying “I do” with family and friends underneath picturesque palm trees and the setting sun.
For their big day, Mahomes, 26, wore a gray suit, while Matthews, also 26, wore a stunning white gown that featured cutouts near her torso.
Mahomes’ younger brother, Jackson Mahomes, served as his best man, while his Kansas City Chiefs teammate Travis Kelce was a groomsman. Kelce’s girlfriend, Kayla Nicole, was one of Matthew’s bridesmaids as well, TMZ reported.
The couple shared a joint Instagram post after the ceremony, which features a collection of photographs of the pair on their special day. The series also shows a photo of the couple and their 1-year-old daughter, Sterling Skye.
The happy couple had teased their nuptials to fans on Instagram all week as they enjoyed fun in the sun with their daughter and wedding party.
Matthews and Mahomes’ long-awaited day came over a year after the Chiefs quarterback — who led the team to a Super Bowl LIV victory — popped the question on his now-wife’s 25th birthday on Sept. 1, 2020.
Mahomes proposed at Arrowhead Stadium with an intricate display that included hundreds of white roses. The couple then shared an intimate candlelit dinner together, as revealed by photos posted to Matthews’ Instagram Story at the time.
“My heart is so full! I love this man so incredibly much and today was so so special!,” Matthews, a former pro soccer player, wrote on Instagram at the time. “Couldn’t imagine this day being any more perfect.”
The couple met while attending Whitehouse High School in Whitehouse, Texas. According to Yahoo! Sports, the two have been dating since the 10th grade.
“Probably proposing, I would say,” the NFL star told KCSP 610 Sports Radio when asked to compare the two moments. “You don’t think it’s going to be nerve-racking when you’ve been with someone for so long, but before you get on that knee, man, your heart’s racing. I promise you that.”
Since Mahomes secured the Super Bowl win in February 2020, things have only looked up for the longtime couple.

Benjamin Bratt Reveals Wife Talisa Soto Was Diagnosed With Breast Cancer During The Pandemic

Former Bond girl Talisa Soto was diagnosed with breast cancer during the pandemic, her husband, actor Benjamin Bratt, has revealed. Bratt spoke publicly for the first time about his wife's health during an appearance on the Today show on Thursday, noting that the License to Kill and Mortal Kombat actress is currently considered "cancer-free."
“This is something I typically would keep close-held, but through the pandemic, through self-exam and then by going to her yearly mammogram, she discovered that she was positive for breast cancer,” Bratt, 58, shared.
The former Law & Order star added that Soto, 54, hopes her experience will remind others "that it’s important to get your screenings yearly, that you have to self-advocate for yourself and take care of yourself. Not just eating well, but you have to get to the doctor and make these exams a part of your regular life.”
Now starring in the new HBO Max miniseries DMZ, Bratt said that Soto has responded well to treatment, though they remain "on guard." His wife's scare has also made him more proactive about his own health, including scheduling a long-delayed colonoscopy.
"She’s doing great,” he said. “The medication rocks the hormonal system a little bit but the good news is, she was found to be cancer-free at this point. So we’re just on guard to make sure it doesn’t come back.”
Bratt and Soto wed in 2002, a year after they played lovers in the 2001 biopic Piñero. He was previously in a relationship with actress Julia Roberts, while Soto's marriage to Saw actor Costas Mandylor ended in 2000. The couple share two children, 19-year-old Sophia and 16-year-old Mateo.
Speaking to Today, Bratt couldn't resist gushing about his spouse, calling her "an amazing woman" who is "very easy to love" and "as beautiful inside as out.”
Georgia House approves bill that loosens requirements to carry handguns in public
Georgians are one step closer to being able to carry handguns in public without having to go through a background check or apply for a license to do so.
According to the Associated Press, the Georgia House of Representatives passed the republican-backed House Bill 1358 on Friday (March 11).
The bill still has to pass through the Senate before it can be signed into law by Governor Brian Kemp. The Georgia governor, who is in the last year of his term, previously promised his constituents he would pursue constitutional carry privileges.
Republicans used the protests that took place in Atlanta in 2020 as one of the reasons to pass this measure. They also said that the bill will allow Georgians to better protect themselves from crime and that the law, as it stands, infringes on the second amendment.
Rep. Mandi Ballinger, who is sponsoring the bill, told AP: “All of our other constitutional rights issued to us don’t require a fee to the government to exercise.” Ballinger added, “We can say what we want; we can assemble; We can worship as we please. All of these rights, none of them we have to pay for. This bill gets the government out of our way and allows us to do what we need to do in these precarious times.”
State laws currently require Georgians to get their license to carry a loaded handgun outside their own homes. The process entails submitting an application, a fee, and getting fingerprinted. Convicted felons and people who have been hospitalized for mental health problems or received treatment for drugs or alcohol in the years preceding the application aren’t eligible.
Bill 1358 does not disrupt the ruling that people must undergo federal background checks to purchase guns.
“This bill does not change who can carry or where you can carry,” said Rep. Heath Clark. “It simply says that if you meet all of the qualifications that the state has laid out to be able to carry a firearm in this state, that you can carry that firearm without having to ask permission and pay what is essentially a tax.”
“What good is owning a gun, a firearm, if you can’t carry it to protect yourself?” Clark added.
Democrats in the state believe the measure would contribute to a rise in gun deaths by encouraging more firearms and putting police officers’ lives in danger.
“It is going to mean more crime, more shootings,” said Democratic Rep. Matthew Wilson. “More guns equal more shootings. It’s not complicated. It’s very simple in fact.”
According to Stateline, an initiative of the Pew Charitable Trusts, 20 states already allow concealed weapons in public without a permit.
Heckler Makes Tennis Star Naomi Osaka Cry During Indian Wells Masters
A heckler who shouted at Naomi Osaka at a tournament in California made the tennis star cry Saturday.
Osaka was playing Veronika Kudermetova at the Indian Wells Masters in Indian Wells, California, when a woman yelled out, "Naomi, you suck!"
The crowd jeered the heckler.
Shortly after the heckler's comment, Osaka asked the umpire whether she could use the microphone to address the crowd.
"I just want to say something. I’m not going to curse. I don’t curse. It’s just weighing on my heart," Osaka told the umpire.
The umpire denied her request, forcing Osaka to wait to make her comments until after the match, which she lost.
"I just want to say, 'Thank you,'" Osaka said as her voice quivered and she appeared to wipe her eyes. "I feel like I've cried enough on camera. I just wanted to say, to be honest, I've been heckled before, like it didn't really bother me."
Osaka went on to say getting heckled at Indian Wells, where she had watched videos of Venus and Serena Williams being heckled, "went into my head and got replayed a lot."
She told the crowd she was trying not to cry as her voice broke.
The pressures of the tennis world have caused Osaka to consider taking a hiatus from the sport in the past. Last year, she announced that she was considering a break from tennis.
"I feel like for me, recently, when I win, I don’t feel happy. I feel more like a relief. And then when I lose, I feel very sad," Osaka said last year.
Osaka pulled out of the French Open before the second round to take a mental health break after having announced she would not participate in news conferences in Paris.
She also sat out Wimbledon before she participated in the Tokyo Olympics, where she lit the cauldron as one of Japan’s most famous athletes.
Andrew Young’s 90th Birthday Gala Held in Metro Atlanta
*ATLANTA, Georgia (WGCL) — Saturday night, the City of Atlanta highlighted the life and achievements of civil rights leader Andrew Young, who is celebrating his 90th birthday.
A gala was held in his honor to raise money for the Andrew Young Foundation, which supports and promotes education, leadership and human rights.
The gala was held at the Georgia World Congress Center.
Young has been a civil rights leader, Georgia congressman, U.N. ambassador, mayor of Atlanta and businessman.
Other civil rights leaders attended the event to honor Young.

The critics are highlighting the year's best. On Sunday, the 27th annual Critics Choice Awards honored the best in movies and TV during a Sunday night broadcast on The CW and TBS with hosts Taye Diggs and Nicole Byer.

Lizzo Slams Texas Abortion Laws, Anti-Trans Policies: ‘Stay Out of My Body’
Lizzo slammed new Texas laws and policies that restrict access to abortion and target trans children and their families during a keynote conversation at SXSW on Sunday. The pop star, who grew up in Houston, said the controversial moves unfairly target women and the LGBTQ community.
“I’m proud to rep Houston, but I’m not proud to rep Texas politics right now,” Lizzo said to loud applause.
“Mind your business,” she added. “Trans rights are human rights.”
The singer was equally impassioned when discussing Texas lawmakers ban on abortion after six weeks, or at the detection of a fetal heartbeat, blasting conservative politicians for being “all up in your uterus.” Opponents of the law say that most women are unaware of pregnancies at that point.
“The abortion ban is atrocious,” Lizzo said. “Mind your business. Stay out of my body. This is not political.”
On the LGBTQ front, queer communities and allies across the nation were outraged over comments from Texas Gov. Gregg Abbot last month, who called on child protective services and private citizens to report families that appear to be supporting children undergoing “elective procedures for gender transitioning.” Abbott also pledged that other state agencies would investigate these issues.
“We got a lot of other things that we need,” Lizzo said, adding, “there are people in charge who can change things on a systemic level and they’re letting us down.”
Those political actions have drawn widespread condemnation from the SXSW crowd, with the likes of Richard Linklater, Ethan Hawke and Beto O’Rourke, the Democratic nominee for governor, using the forum to criticize the moves by Gov. Abbott and his supporters.
Lizzo came to the annual celebration of music, movies and media in part to plug her new unscripted reality competition series, “Watch Out for the Big Grrrls,” which premieres on Amazon on March 24. She also brought a message of empowerment, reminding the packed auditorium of fans to love themselves.
“Look in that motherfucking mirror and remind yourself of who you are, because you are that bitch,” Lizzo said.
She spoke frankly about the fact that growing up there were a lack of plus-sized music and media icons, a state of affairs that she is working to change both through her own example and on her show, which centers on the search for full-figured dancers and models.
“I used to get called fat ass every single day on the bus,” she remembered, adding “they don’t set us up to see our value and our worth especially as Black women, especially as big Black women.”
The hope is that the show will spawn a new generation of superstars and promote body positivity.
“I want to lift these women up… I hope they all become superstars after this,” Lizzo said.
Lizzo also used her time on stage to drop some news. The pop star said she will fly home after SXSW to “master my album,” telling the crowd that her follow up to 2019’s “Cuz I Love You” is done.
“I worked real hard on this, so it better be good,” Lizzo said. “But it’s good.”

Stevie J Faces Backlash After Allegedly Receiving Oral Sex During FaceTime Interview
Stevie J might have outdone himself this time. The Bad Boys producer allegedly received oral sex while doing a FaceTime interview.
Stevie was the latest guest on Leah A. Henry’s “Leah’s Lemonade” show when Henry noticed something was strange. Besides appearing on the screen shirtless and lying in bed, she also pointed out that Stevie seemed to have company after a mysterious hand became visible.
Henry asked Stevie what was going on, but of course, he skated over the question. Nevertheless, Henry wasn’t bothered by Stevie’s antics and continued the interview.
However, viewers immediately suggested he was receiving oral sex. Stevie did receive backlash, with many people calling his stunt disrespectful.
On the other hand, Henry also faced criticism for resuming the interview after suspecting Stevie was receiving oral sex. Some called her unprofessional for not ending the interview early.

Award-Winning Journalist Brent Renaud, 51, Fatally Shot By Russian Troops In Ukraine
Authorities have confirmed an award-winning American journalist was killed by Russian forces near Kyiv.
Brent Renaud, 51, a former New York Times contributor and a video journalist who has also reported for NBC, Vice News, and HBO, was fatally shot in the neck by Russian troops when they opened fire on a car in the Ukraine town of Irpin, police and a witness reported.
“The occupants … kill even journalists of the international media who try to show the truth about the inaction of Russian troops in Ukraine,” Kyiv Chief of Police Andrey Nebitov wrote on Facebook.
“Of course, the profession of a journalist is a risk, but US citizen Brent Renaud paid his life for trying to highlight the aggressor’s ingenuity, cruelty, and ruthlessness.”
Nebitov also shared a video that captured a police officer on the scene with a bloodied man’s body.
Two other journalists were also injured in the attack and taken to the hospital, Nebitov added.
“We had crossed the first bridge in Irpin. We were going to film other refugees leaving. We got into a car. Somebody offered to take us to the other bridge,” he told the Italian paper Internazionale, the Daily Mail reported.
“We crossed a checkpoint, and they started shooting at us. The driver turned around, there were two of us. My friend is Brent Renaud,” he said.
Juan said the attackers shot Renaud, and he had to flee the scene without his friend for his own safety.
“He has been shot and left behind. I saw he has been shot in the neck. We got split,” he said.
PBS reporter Jane Ferguson said she saw Renaud’s body lying on the side of the road under a blanket, the New York Post reported.
“Ukrainian medics could do nothing to help him by that stage,” she posted on Twitter. “Outraged Ukrainian police officer: ‘Tell America, tell the world, what they did to a journalist.’ “
Irpin has been the target of heavy shelling by Russian forces.
The New York Times made a statement on Reanud’s death Sunday, saying: “We are deeply saddened to hear of Brent Renaud’s death. Brent was a talented filmmaker who had contributed to The New York Times over the years.”
Initially, Renaud was identified as a New York Times journalist, but he had not been on assignment for the newspaper at the time of his death, a representative told The Post.
“Early reports that he worked for Times circulated because he was wearing a Times press badge that had been issued for an assignment many years ago.”
Renaud and his brother Craig won a Peabody Award for their work on a Vice News documentary about a school in Chicago, according to the bio on their Web site.
The brothers had also worked on documentary projects for their company, the Renaud Brothers, from Iran, Afghanistan, Haiti, Egypt, Libya, and Mosul.
Another Homeless Man Found Dead In NYC As Police Eye Possible Serial Shooter
Another homeless man was found dead in Lower Manhattan on Sunday – and he is suspected to be the latest victim of a serial killer who has shot at least five vagrants in the Big Apple and Washington, DC this month, authorities and sources said.
The latest death of a 43-year-old man in Tribeca came shortly before the NYPD and Washington, DC’s Metro Police Department released a joint statement announcing the same serial shooter is wanted for killing two sleeping vagrants and wounding three others in both jurisdictions – including the two men attacked early Saturday morning in Soho.
Authorities said the first three attacks took place in the nation’s capital. On March 3, the suspect shot and wounded a male victim on the 1100 block of New York Avenue.
Five days later, the gunman shot another man on the 1700 block of H Street. The first two victims sustained non-life threatening injuries.
The suspect’s attacks turned deadly last Wednesday when he allegedly fatally stabbed and shot a homeless man whose remains were discovered in an encampment fire on the 400 block of New York Avenue, authorities said.
Sometime before Saturday morning, the sicko traveled to the Big Apple and targeted more defenseless vagrants.
In the first of those two, the suspect shot and wounded a 38-year-old vagrant as he slept on King Street in Soho. The victim was hospitalized in stable condition.
About an hour later, the sicko was caught on camera fatally shooting a homeless man wrapped in a sleeping bag about 15 blocks away outside of 148 Lafayette St.
The suspect kicked the sleeping man, looked around to see if anyone was watching, then pulled out a gun and shot him at point-blank range in the head, the disturbing footage showed.
At about 6:30 p.m. Sunday, the latest homeless victim was found inside of a sleeping bag outside of a Chipotle restaurant at the corner of Greenwich and Murray streets in Tribeca at about 6:30 p.m., police sources said.
Investigators are scouring the neighborhood for surveillance video to help determine when the man died.
Sources said the latest victim was alive at about 6 a.m. when police conducted a wellness check. Then about 12 hours later, police were flagged down by a woman who thought the man was suffering from an overdose, sources said.
Responding officers administering first aid noticed the man’s eyes were rolled back, then spotted a bloody wound near the victim’s pelvis area.
It was unclear if the wound was the result of a stabbing or shooting.
Sources said Sunday’s scene is not covered by the NYPD’s ShotSpotter gunfire detection system.
The homeless man found dead Sunday had lived on the sidewalk for roughly a year and was known in the neighborhood to keep to himself.
“He was completely harmless,” a nearby resident told The Post. “He was never begging, never hassling. He just kept to himself.”
The suspect was captured on surveillance footage wearing all black during his attacks in both jurisdictions. In New York City, he also wore a dark face mask.
All five shootings took place in the morning hours as the victims were asleep.
“Our homeless population is one of our most vulnerable and an individual praying on them as they sleep is an exceptionally heinous crime,” NYPD Commissioner Keechant Sewell said in a Sunday night statement.
“We will use every tool, every technique and every partner to bring the killer to justice,” Sewell said.
The FBI and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives are assisting the two departments in their investigations.
Ballistics found at the two scenes in Soho on Saturday morning matched were of the same caliber as casings found in Washington, DC, sources said.
Detectives investigating Sunday’s crime scene had yet to recover any ballistics.
